TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE FAILURE BEGAN APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO, IT COULD BE CORRECTED BY RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE HAS BECOME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ABILITY WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. PHIL LONG FORD IN COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC EPAS MODULE WITHIN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,000.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER LITTLE FORD GOING THROUGH A CORNER AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING AND SHE NEARLY CRASHED!! SHE MANAGED TO LIMP IT TO THE FORD GARAGE AS I WAS OUT OF TOWN, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EPAS HAD FAILED. THE EPAS FAILURE IS RAMPANT THROUGH A RANGE OF FORD MODEL VEHICLES AND THEY DON'T GIVE TWO HOOTS ABOUT OUR PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE HAVEN'T BEEN ENOUGH (WHAT!!) FAILURES TO WARRANT A RECALL ON THE 2012 FOCUS ALTHOUGH ITS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AND IT IS CURRENTLY THE REASON FOR A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT IN CALIFORNIA. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE DOESN'T EVEN SAY "SORRY" JUST THAT FORD IS OFFERING NO ASSISTANCE. POWER STEERING SHOULD NOT GO OUT ON A 2012 VEHICLE WITH ONLY 44000 MILES ON IT. STEERING GEAR REPLACED AT A COST OF $2009.00.

THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP FAILED TO OPEN AND CAUSED THE FUEL TANK TO COLLAPSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER FOR A COMPLETE DIAGNOSTIC. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V643000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING ON A STREET AND MY DOOR FLUNG OPEN AND NOW IT DOESN'T CLOSE.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT POWER STEERING WILL NOT FUNCTION UNTIL CAR KEY IS TURNED OFF AND ON A FEW TIMES. THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE SAME PROBLEM THEY HAVE INTHE FORD FUSION AND IT IS ON RECALL. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM AND IT SHOULD BE RECALLED?? IT DOES IT ABOUT ONCE DAY.
TAKATA RECALL. TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) FORD RECALL FSA 15B22. MY VEHICLE WOULD STRUGGLE TO SHIFT INTO SECOND AND THIRD GEAR WHENEVER I WAS DRIVING, SO I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR THE TCM TO GET REPROGRAMMED, AS PER THE MANUFACTURER'S RECALL IN JUNE 2016. IT SEEMED TO HELP WITH THE HARSHNESS OF THE VEHICLE'S SHIFTING, UNTIL FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD, 2016 WHENEVER I TRIED TO GET MY CAR TO REVERSE AND IT ACTED AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN NEUTRAL. IT WOULDN'T GO IN REVERSE AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOW ON. THE SHIFTER WAS IN REVERSE CORRECTLY, AND THE REVERSE LIGHTS CAME ON BUT THE CAR WENT NOWHERE. MY FORD DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO DRIVE IT UP TO THE DEALERSHIP SO THEY COULD LOOK AT IT AND DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, SO I DID. IT OVERHEATED THREE TIMES IN THE 45 MINUTE DRIVE UP, DESPITE CAUTIOUS DRIVING. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH WAS NOT COVERED BY FORD IN ANY WAY. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WOULD BE DIAGNOSED LATER THAT DAY (MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH) AND ANY NECESSARY PARTS WOULD BE ORDERED BY THE END OF THE DAY. I HADN'T HEARD ANYTHING BACK FROM THEM IN OVER 3 DAYS SO I CALLED FOR AN UPDATE. THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE TCM AND IT NEEDS REPLACED, AS THE "REPROGRAMMING" THEY DID IN JUNE 2016 WAS TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE TCM IS HEAVILY BACKORDERED, SO THE FACTORY ISN'T EVEN SHIPPING OUR ANY TCM'S UNTIL NOVEMBER 4TH, WHICH MINE MIGHT NOT EVEN BE INCLUDED IN THAT SHIPMENT AND IT IS "HIGHLY LIKELY" THAT IT WILL BE CLOSER TO CHRISTMAS BEFORE I GET MY CAR FIXED AND RETURNED TO ME. TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, THEY ARE REFUSING TO PROVIDE ME WITH A SERVICE VEHICLE, SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO FOR THE NEXT 3 MONTHS THAT MY CAR SITS AT THEIR DEALERSHIP AWAITING ITS PART. HOW AM I TO GET TO WORK? PICK UP MY SON FROM SCHOOL? GET GTOCERIES? I'M AN ONLY PARENT AND CANNOT BE WITHOUT A CAR.
I WENT TO FORD LATE SEPTEMBER FOR MY CAR STALLING AND WAS TOLD MY TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING AGAIN. MY TRANSMISSION HAD ALREADY FAILED ONCE ON A 2012. FORD FIXED IT AND THEN A COUPLE DAYS LATER MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I BROUGHT IT BACK AND FORD SAID MY FUEL TANK HAD COLLAPSED AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO PAY $2K TO REPLACE IT. I'D NEVER HEARD OF FUEL TANKS NOT LASTING THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. I DID FURTHER RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT FORD HAS RELEASED A TSB FOR THIS KNOWN ISSUE WHICH IS A PRECURSOR TO A RECALL. I AM NOT SURE WHY FORD WOULD NOT COVER A FAULTY FUEL TANK AND I AM NOT SURE HOW THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN MY CAR CAN STALL OR LEAK FLAMMABLE LIQUID OR FUMES. I'VE READ THAT OTHER FOCUS OWNERS HAVE HAD THEIRS REPLACED TWICE OR MORE SO I AM NOT CONFIDENT FORD ACTUALLY HAS A SOLID FIX TO THE ISSUE AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR.
STEERING ASSIST QUIT WORKING DURING STARTING OF VEHICLE. WARNING LIGHT CAME ON TO TAKE CAR FOR SERVICE. CAR VERY VERY VERY HARD TO STEER. TAKING CAR FOR SERVICE TOMORROW. STILL DRIVING THE CAR.
THE BACK DOOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE THE OUTSIDE HANDLE ON THE BACK DOOR IS BROKEN AN THE DOOR WONT SHUT. THE OUTSIDE HANDLE TO THE DOOR IS NOT BROKEN. ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR. AFTER I TOOK THE DOOR PANIEL OF WERE THE WINDOW GO UP AND DOWN. THE TRACKER THAT LETS THE WINDOW DOWN BYE THE LATCH WERE OPEN THE A PEACE OF THE WHITE PLASTIC HANDLE IS BROKEN RIGHT BYE THE CHILDREN'S SAFTY LATCHES ON THE DOOR. MS. VIRGINIA HALTOM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE POWER STEERING FAILURE SIGNAL ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THERE WAS NO RECALL RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
STEER WHEEL ASSIST SHUTS OFF AT CAR ENGINE START WHILE PARKED IN RESIDENCE PARKING. MULTIPLE RESTART AT SAME LOCATION WOULD NOT MAKE THE ISSUE DISAPPEAR. CAR CANNOT BE OPERATED AS LACK OF STEERING POWER IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY HAZARD ON THE ROAD. CAR HAS 36000 MILES.
THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET, DOWNHILL, WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 35 MPH WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. THIS NORMALLY WOULD BE A GREAT CONDITION TO COAST DOWNHILL WITHOUT APPLYING BRAKES OR GAS. MY CAR STARTED SHAKING AND THEN KEPT TRYING TO DOWNSHIFT, IT DIDN'T HAVE ANY GEAR SELECTED AND STARTED PULLING ITSELF TO A STOP. DURING RUSH HOUR THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS. I TURNED INTO A PARKING LOT AND THE CAR QUICKLY SHUT OFF AS SOON AS I GOT DOWN TO 5 MPH. ONCE THE CAR WAS BACK ON IT WOULDN'T GO OVER 20 MPH, VERY DANGEROUS AS THE TO GET TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 45 MPH ANY WAY I WOULD GO. ONCE I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY INFORMED ME IT WOULD TAKE A WEEK TO GET IN ON APPOINTMENT, AND THERE WERE NO LOANERS. THIS BEING MY ONLY CAR IS FIRST OF ALL DANGEROUS AND UNSETTLING, BUT ALSO EXTREMELY INCONVENIENT. HOURS LATER AFTER LETTING MY CAR COOL OFF AND SETTLE, THE PROBLEMS SEEMED TO REMEDY THEMSELVES UNTIL I WAS REVERSING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. I REVERSED, APPLIED THE BRAKE, PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE, BUT WHEN I APPLIED THE GAS, THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS UNTIL I SLAMMED ON THE BREAK AND TRIED THE GAS AGAIN. WHILE TRYING TO LEAVE THAT SAME PARKING LOT JUST AFTER THIS, MY CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE UP THE SMALL HILL AND BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARDS AGAIN EXTREMELY FAST. I BELIEVE THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY HAD THERE BEEN PEDESTRIANS BEHIND MY CAR. PREVIOUS ATTEMPT TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND REPROGRAM THE TCM WERE GREETED WITH PAMPHLETS STATING JERKING AND SHAKING WERE NORMAL CHARACTERISTICS OF AUTOMATIC CARS. I WAS TOLD THE WAITING LIST JUST TO CHECK IF MY CAR QUALIFIED FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WOULD BE SIX WEEKS AND I WOULD HAVE TO LEAVE MY CAR THERE WITH NO LOANER JUST IN CASE THE WAIT TIME WAS CUT SHORTER. FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON AND TARGETED GROUP FOR FORD VEHICLES THIS ISN'T A POSSIBILITY.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING FROM HER JOB WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON HER 2012 FORD FOCUS. SHE IS A COLLEGE STUDENT NEEDING A SAFE RELIABLE CAR TO GET HER BACK AND FORTH FROM COLLEGE. IT IS UNBELIEVABLE THAT THE FUSIONS WERE RECALLED FOR POWER STEERING FAILING. WHY NOT THE FOCUS??? IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT ITS GOING TO COST AN ESTIMATED $1850 TO FIX A PROBLEM.
THE CAR FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE FAILING WHICH IS UNDER REPLACEMENT RECALL. WHILE AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULD NOT COMPLETE THE REPAIR WITHOUT REPLACING THE LOCKED SHIFTER. I EXPLAINED THAT THE SHIFTER ELECTRONICALLY LOCKED WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND THAT I DID NOT WANT IT REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY REFUSED TO CONTINUE WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION TO REPLACE THE SHIFTER FOR $535.00 I WAS FORCED TO AGREE AS THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND I NEEDED IT FIXED. IT IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET INCLUDING BY MANY FORD TECHNICIANS THAT A SIDE EFFECT OF THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE FAILING IS THAT THE SHIFTER ELECTRONICALLY LOCKS IN PLACE, AND WHEN THAT HAPPENS THE DASH NO LONGER SHOWS WHAT POSITION IT IS IN. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A COMPLETELY ISOLATED INCIDENT THAT THE SHIFTER "BROKE" IE WONT SHIFT, AT THE EXACT SAME TIME THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MY OPTIONS REGARDING RECOVERING MY MONEY FOR A COVERED RECALL. FORD HAS HAD MY CAR FOR JUST SHY OF 60 DAYS DURING THE LENGTH OF OWNERSHIP. OTHER ISSUES WITH THE CAR INCLUDE THE FAN DOES NOT WORK, THE BACK DOOR SENSOR IS BROKEN, THE TWO FRONT WINDOWS FAILED, THE HORN FAILED, AND NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH THE LIGHTS.
POWER STEERING SPORADICALLY COMES IN AND OUT ' USUALLY WHEN THE CAR IS JUST STARTED AND WE ATTEMPT TO BACK OUT ' THE STEERING HAS NO POWER. STEERING WHEEL LOCKES WHILE DRIVING. FORD SERVICE RAN DIAGNOSTIC ON THE VEHICLE AND NO ERROR CODES WERE PRESENT. THEY CAN NOT FIND A SOLUTION OR WHY THE PROBLEM IS EVEN HAPPENING
ON 9/18/2016 IN A SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT,STARTED CAR PUT INTO DRIVE AND WAS TURNING ONTO EXIT LANE OF LOT WHEN STEERING WHEEL STOPPED TURNING AND AMBER "I"LIGHT CAME ON.STOPPED VEHICLE .PUT IN PARK.COULD NOT TURN WHEEL EITHER DIRECTION.TURNED CAR OFF THEN RESTARTED,AMBER LIGHT STAYED ON POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE.WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER CAR TO A SAFE PARKING AREA FROM LANE .IT WAS A SCARY EVENT .MY FRIEND HER 4 MONTH OLD AND 4 YEAR OLD WERE IN THE CAR WITH ME AND ALSO HER 15 YEAR OLD NIECE!WE WERE ABOUT TO GO ON THE HIGHWAY!! I NOW UNDERSTAND A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED AFTER HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAFETY PROBLEM ON THIS VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THIS SAME SYSTEM HAS BEEN RECALLED ON OTHER MODELS.I AM APPALLED AND PERPLEXED AS YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL OUR SAFETY.PLEASE DO YOUR DUTY TO RECALL THIS SAFETY PROBLEM.
TWICE IN MID SEPTEMBER 2016 THE MESSAGE "STEERING ASSIST SERVICE" CAME UP AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE AND THE POWER STEERING ON THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT WORK. THE SOLUTION SEEMED TO BE TURNING THE POWER OFF, THEN RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. AFTER RESTART THE POWER STEERING WAS WORKING AGAIN. A VISIT TO THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE SYSTEM. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS MY DAUGHTER'S CAR, SHE'S 18 YEARS OLD AND IF THE STEERING FAILS WHILE SHE'S DRIVING, THERE MAY BE AN ACCIDENT. IF FORD RECALLED OTHER MODELS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, WHY WON'T THEY RECALL THE FOCUS AND TAKE CARE OF THESE CUSTOMERS AS WELL?
I WAS OUT RUNNING SOME ERRANDS. I HAD DRIVEN 15 MILES TO MY DESTINATION. WHEN I GOT BACK TO MY CAR, MY PASSENGER NOTICED THAT THE DOOR DID NOT LOCK. I CHECKED IT AND NOTICED THAT THE LATCH DID NOT ACTIVATE TO CLOSE. WE HAD TO DRIVE HOME, THROUGH THE STREET, HOLDING THE DOOR. THE CAR'S SYSTEM DID NOT REGISTER THE DOOR OPENED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 61,000.
THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSISTED STEERING (DPAS) SYSTEM ON MY 2012 FORD FOCUS HAS FAILED. THE VEHICLE IS UN-DRIVABLE ABSENT EXTREME FORCE. EMERGENCY MANEUVERS ARE OUT OF THE QUESTION. THE VEHICLE IS UTTERLY UNSAFE TO OPERATE. RESTARTING THE VEHICLE AND RESETTING THE ECU HAVE NO EFFECT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE (STATIONARY). LUCKILY IT DIDN'T FAIL WHILE DRIVING.
POWER STEERING FAILURE. STATIONARY, WHEN STARTING VEHICLE POWER STEERING WILL NOT OPERATE. HAVE TO RESTART A FEW TIMES TO GET THE POWER STEERING TO OPERATE.
MY HEATER BOX FAILS TO DEFROST MY WINDSHIELD AND I HAVE TO DANGEROUSLY TRY TO WIPE THE FOG OFF THE WINDSHIELD BY HAND TO BE ABLE TO SEE. WITHOUT THE AIR TO CLEAR IT OFF AND THE WINDSHIELD FOGGING OVER IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO EVERYONE. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND I WAITED FOR THE WINDSHIELD TO CLEAR USING THE SUN TO HELP. THE SUN IS NOT ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING CAUSING A DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR EVERYONE AROUND INCLUDING ME. I AM GETTING THE CAR FIXED AT A COST OF ABOUT $1000 WHICH IS A HUGE AMOUNT. THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER WITH MANY IN FRONT OF ME WITH THE SAME PROBLEM THEREFORE I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THIS WILL BE FIXED. I BELIEVE THAT THERE SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL FOR THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE. THE HEATER BOX HAS BEEN FAILING FOR THE LAST 4 OR 5 MONTHS OR MORE BUT THE WINDOW ONLY FOGS UP AND FROSTS OVER NOW BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER CHANGE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *TR
I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM THE GYM ON 9/15/16 WHEN I GOT AN ERROR ON THE DASHBOARD SAYING "STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTION." AT THAT TIME MY FOCUS WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH AND APPROACHING A TURN THAT I NEEDED TO TAKE. THIS WAS HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND IMPAIRED MOST OF MY ABILITY TO STEER AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AS I WAS TRYING TO STEER THE TURN. THIS IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS, AND FROM HUNDREDS OF REVIEWS ONLINE MANY 2012 FORD FOCUS OWNERS ARE HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT NOT ONLY NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED, BUT NEED TO BE RECALLED FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL FORD FOCUS DRIVERS.

THE MESSAGE STATED THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR WAS OPEN, NOW THE DOOR WON'T STAY CLOSED. WE KEEP THE REAR DOOR CLOSED WITH BUNGEE CORDS NOW. LUCKILY SHE DIDN'T DIDN'T HAVE A REAR SEAT PASSENGER AT THE TIME. THERE SEEMS TO BE A DISCONNECT BETWEEN THE BRAIN AND THE BODY WHEN TALKING ABOUT FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, FORD RECALL HQ., AND MY LOCAL FORD DEALER. IT ALL SOUNDS GOOD ON THE PHONE BUT THE RUBBER AIN'T MEETING THE ROAD ON ANYTHING ACTUALLY GETTING DONE. ANYTHING.
A MESSAGE OF "STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTION" APPEARS. LOSE POWER STEERING ..HARD TO DRIVE. WHEN YOU TURN OFF THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON IT "FIXES" ITSELF AND YOU CAN DRIVE. OTHERWISE, VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. VERY HARD TO TURN WHEN DRIVING.
AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP, THE STEERING GOT REALLY DIFFICULT AND THE STEERING ASSIST LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER STOPPING, THE STEERING LOCKED UP COMPLETELY. I RESTARTED THE CAR, AND IT WORKED AFTER THAT. NOW I'M WORRIED THIS WILL HAPPEN IN A WORSE AREA, PARTICULARLY WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. I ALSO RECENTLY HAD THE PASSENGER DOOR OPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND HAD TO TIE THE SEAT BELT THROUGH THE DOOR HANDLE AND HOLD TO MAKE IT HOME WITHOUT THE DOOR COMING OPEN. LOCKING THE SEAT BELT IN STILL MADE THE DOOR BARELY OPEN, AND THE ALERT GO OFF. THIS LOOKS LIKE IT WAS JUST RECALLED, SO I'M HOPING I GET REIMBURSED. IT WASN'T CHEAP TO FIX. CAR IS 114,000 MILES.
WHILE DRIVING ON A FEEDER ROAD IN TEXAS, TAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN, THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR OPENED ON ITS OWN DUE TO A LATCH FAILURE. NO INJURIES, AND A RECALL HAS ALREADY BEEN ISSUED. THE CAR ALSO HAS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING THE CAR TO LUNGE FORWARD AT BOTH HIGH AND LOW SPEEDS. THE TRANSMISSION HAS ALREADY BEEN "REPAIRED" ONCE UNDER WARRANTY, BUT HAS STARTED SHOWING THE SAME ISSUES FOR A SECOND TIME. CURRENTLY WITH DEALER.

MY WIFE TRADED IN HER 2009 TAURUS FOR A NEW 2012 FOCUS SEDAN BACK IN APRIL 2012 AT GREEN FORD. A MONTH OR SO AFTER GETTING THE FOCUS, IT HAD A TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK. GREEN FORD FIXED THE PROBLEM. IN MID-2015 WE STARTED TO NOTICE TRANSMISSION ISSUES LIKE ERRATICALLY SHIFTING IN SECOND AND THIRD GEAR, VERY SLUGGISH SHIFT BETWEEN LOW GEARS AND THAT THE UPSHIFT BAGS DOWN LIKE THE VEHICLE MIGHT STALL, BUCKING, KICKING, JERKING, HARSH ENGAGEMENT, DELAYED ACCELERATION AND LURCHING FORWARD INTO INTERSECTIONS AT RED LIGHTS DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THEIR BRAKING EFFORTS TO STOP THE CAR. WE TOOK IT TO GREEN FORD ON 9/18/2015. THEY STATING THAT IT WAS WORKING AS DESIGNED. HOWEVER, FOR A PRECAUTION, THEY SAID THEY REPROGRAMMED THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) AND THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM). HOWEVER, IT WAS A RECALL ISSUE FOR THAT STATED PROBLEM/S. IN THE OFFICIAL SERVICE HISTORY FOR THE FORD OWNER'S RECORDS, THERE IS NO MENTION OF THE SAFETY RECALL DONE ON MY FOCUS, JUST THE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND A MILEAGE OF OVER 96,000 MILES ON THE FOCUS AT THE TIME. JUMP FORWARD TO A YEAR LATER, ON FRIDAY, SEPT. 9, 2016, AT 2PM, MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING IN A 45 MPH SPEED ZONE WHEN THE CAR'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME. SECONDS LATER, THE FORD STARTED TO STALL AND HAVE POWER ISSUES, CAUSING HER TO FIND THE NEXT SIDE ROAD TO PULL OVER. THE CAR COMPLETED STALLED AND COULD NOT TURN OVER. AFTER 2 TOWING EVENTS, FROM THE BREAKDOWN LOCATION TO THOMAS TIRE, THOMAS TO STEARNS FORD, AND SITTING OVER THE WEEKEND, ON SEPT. 9, WE FOUND OUT IT WAS THE RECALL TCM THAT BROKE. THE TCM WAS IN BACK ORDER UNTIL OCTOBER 28, 2016. STEARNS FORD SENT ME TO ENTERPRISE WHERE THEY PAID FOR A FORD RENTAL. THE ONLY FORD ON THE RENTAL LOT WAS THE TRANSIT 250 OR 350 VAN (VERY LOW MPG). I HAD TO PAY FOR THE LIABILITY INSURANCE COVERAGE DAILY. AFTER THE 3RD DAY, I BORROWED A FAMILY MEMBER'S CAR.

OUR 2012 FORD FOCUS ALL OF A SUDDEN LOST ITS POWER STEERING CAPABILITIES MAKING THE CAR EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER, TURN OR CONTROL. MY 20 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO DRIVES THE CAR DAILY IS OF SLIGHT BUILD, SO HER SAFETY WAS AT JEOPARDY BEHIND THE WHEEL. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING NEAR OUR HOME ON 9/6/16. I DROVE IT IMMEDIATELY AND FOUND IT VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER, SO I BROUGHT IT TO A FORD DEALER THAT SAME DAY. ON 9/7/16 I WAS TOLD THE RACK & PINION ELECTRONIC SYSTEM FAILED AND THE REPAIR COSTS ARE OVER $1900. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS AND PAY FOR THE COMPLETE CHARGES. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT THIS POINT UNTIL THE EXPENSIVE PROBLEM IS RESOLVED.

WE BOUGHT MY WIFES FOCUS WITH ABOUT 22K MILES ON IT IN JUNE 2013. SINCE THEN WE'VE BROUGHT IT IN 4 TIMES TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION "SHUTTER" FIXED. AS OF TODAY THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS BUT IT ISN'T BAD ENOUGH FOR THEM TO FIX IT AGAIN. IT MOSTLY SHUTTERS FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR REACHING UPWARDS OF 2800 RPM. JUST SHY OF THEIR 3000 RPM REQUIREMENT. THE CAR WILL SHAKE AND SOMETIMES MAKE A CLUNK AND WE'RE TOLD TO KEEP DRIVING IT.
