TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. MIKE BASS FORD (LOCATED AT 5050 DETROIT ROAD, VILLAGE OF SHEFFIELD, OH) WAS CONTACTED AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,289.
HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY AFTER A COMPLETE STOP, HIGHWAY CITY AND RESIDENTIAL ROADWAYS THE TRANSMISSION EXHIBITS WHAT APPEARS TO BE SLIPPAGE CAUSING A DELAY OF THE VEHICLE TO MOVE AND ACCELERATE IN A MANNER THAT I WOULD CONSIDER TO BE SAFE. THIS BEHAVIOR GOES BACK TO 06/2012 AT THAT TIME MY TRANSMISSION CLUTCHES WERE REPLACED AND NOW AGAIN THE SAME PROBLEM IS HAPPENING. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE ON 02/01/2016 I MADE THE DEALERSHIP REP AWARE AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE LOOKED INTO. AFTER PICKING UP MY VEHICLE I WAS TOLD THAT THE "TRANSMISSION WAS OPERATING NORMALLY AT THIS TIME" I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT FORD HAS AN ACCEPTABLE AMOUNT OF SLIPPAGE CONSIDERED ACCEPTABLE AND MY VEHICLE WAS CONSIDERED "NORMAL" I AGAIN EXPLAINED THAT THIS DEFECT OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY SO A TECH WAS NOT LIKELY TO ENCOUNTER IT IN A TEST DRIVE. I DO CONSIDER THIS BEHAVIOR A SAFETY CONCERN AND THIS IS THE REASON THAT I AM FILING THIS REPORT.
SINCE PURCHASED NEW, EVERY 15K-20K TRANSMISSION FAILURE. 5X CHANGES, NOW AT 85K SAME ISSUE, TRANSMISSION JERKS HARD, DOESN'T SHIFT. IN ADDITION, EVEN WITH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, THEY ARE CLAIMING PART OF THE CLUTCH SYSTEM IS NOT ACTUALLY COVERED ONLY A PORTION OF IT.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS TURNED ON TO WITHOUT COMMANDED INPUT FROM THE WIPER CONTROL STALK. WIPERS OPERATED AT VARIOUS OUTPUT SETTINGS (HIGH, LOW, AND INTERMITTENT) WITH THE CAR IGNITION POSITION IN EITHER THE ON OR OFF POSITION. THESE EVENTS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AND PARKED. CLEAR DAY WITH OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE OF ABOUT 70F.
ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM - LOST POWER STEERING. LOST POWER STEERING SEVERAL TIMES WHEN STARTING THEN RESET IT SELF WHEN SHUT OFF. LAST TIME HAPPENED WHILE DAUGHTER DRIVING CAR. NOW AT SHOP. BEING CHARGED $2200 TO FIX WHILE STILL PAYING ON VEHICLE. IRRITATING. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER TURNING ON THE VEHICLE, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD DISPLAY A WARNING MESSAGE OF "STEERING ASSIST FAULT". THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING GEAR BOX WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
AFTER OPENING THE DRIVER'S DOOR, IT WOULD NOT CLOSE. TOOK TO FORD AND THEY SAID THE DOOR LATCH WAS FAULTY AND NEED REPLACING AT PART COST OF OVER 450 DOLLARS. BOUGHT A NEW CAR INSTEAD.
THIS IS FOR THE SELECTSHIFT TRANSMISSION. MY VEHICLE HAS HAD MULTIPLE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERING ISSUES IN THE PAST, ONCE IN 2013, AND THEN AGAIN IN OCT OF 2014. THE ISSUES WERE "RESOLVED", BUT ON JAN 27TH, MY TRANSMISSION JUMPED AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. JAN 28TH, MY TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING ALL TOGETHER WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AND WOULD NOT ENGAGE WITH THE CAR DECELERATING TO A STOP. THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE FAILED THIS TIME, AND THE CLUTCHES WERE SUPPOSED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. THE CLUTCHES WERE NOT REPLACED LIKE THEY WERE PROMISED AND I AM AWAITING FOR THEM TO GET SCHEDULED AND SENT IN. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME INOPERABLE WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED RANDOMLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 92,000.
ONGOING ISSUE ' ON ACCELERATION CAR SHUDDERS, BOGS DOWN, JUMPS FORWARD, ALSO HEAR A GRINDING/CRUNCHING SOUND. I HAVE HAD MY CAR IN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES AND I AM ALWAYS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL. I HAVE WRITTEN TO FORD AND THEY REFUSE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IN REGARD TO THE QUESTION BELOW ' WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN? ' IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2012 BUT SINCE I WAS NOT ABLE TO ENTER THAT INTO THE BOX I ENTERED THE LAST DATE I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALER FOR THIS ISSUE.
REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR OPENED WHILE IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY AND WILL NO LONGER CLOSE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHEN PLACING THE CLUTCH IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MOVE. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,300.
WHEN BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY, A WARNING APPEARED ON DASH DISPLAY INDICATING DOOR OPEN. AS I PULLED ONTO THE STREET, THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR SWUNG OPEN ON IT'S OWN. I TRIED SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO CLOSE THE DOOR, BUT IT WOULD NOT LATCH. AS OF THIS DATE, I HAVE NOT HAD IT REPAIRED.
I BOUGHT MY CAR IN JANUARY 2012 - THE CAR RAN GREAT FOR THE FIRST 8 MONTHS, IT WAS A SMOOTH RIDE AND THE ACCELERATION WAS QUICK. THAT YEAR I DROVE ALMOST 30K MILES UP AND DOWN THE CALIFORNIA COAST. TOWARDS THE END OF THAT YEAR I STARTED TO NOTICE MY CAR WASN'T RUNNING THE SAME, THE ACCELERATION LAGGED AND WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE FROM 0MPH TO 20MPH IT WOULD SHAKE - FELT LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WASN'T SWITCHING GEARS PROPERLY SO I BROUGHT IT INTO FORD WHERE I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT IT IN SEASIDE CA IN MONTEREY COUNTY. THEY RAN SOME TESTS AND SAID IT WAS FINE AND THAT WHAT I WAS FEELING WAS FROM THE NEW ENGINE FORD HAD CREATED TO HELP THEIR CARS RUN EFFICIENTLY AND NOT USE AS MUCH GAS. I ALSO BROUGHT IT INTO FORD SANTA MONICA IN LOS ANGELES CA SEVERAL TIMES WITH THE SAME ISSUE - THIS WENT ON FOR YEARS AND THEY ALWAYS SAID THE SAME THING. IN AUGUST OF 2015 SANTA MONICA FORD FINALLY DISCOVERED THAT MY CAR INDEED HAD A RECALL AND NEEDED A NEW CLUTCH, BUT IT WAS BACK ORDERED. ON JANUARY 18TH OF 2016 MY GIRLFRIEND AND I WERE DRIVING ON THE 405 SOUTH HEADED TO ORANGE COUNTY. MY GIRLFRIEND WAS DRIVING ABOUT 65 IN THE CARPOOL LANE - ALL OF A SUDDEN THE GAS PEDAL STOPPED WORKING AND THE RPMS WERE FLOORING, BUT THE ENGINE COULDN'T CATCH - WE HAD TO GET OVER 5 LANES BEFORE WE RAN OUT OF GAS AND WERE ALMOST KILLED BY A HUGE SEMI/18 WHEELER THAT WAS DRIVING OVER 70MPH. I HAD MY CAR TOWED FIRST THING TUESDAY MORNING BECAUSE MONDAY WAS A HOLIDAY. SANTA MONICA FORD SAID IT WAS FINE, THAT FRIDAY THE SAME THING HAPPENED SO I BROUGHT IT TO FORD STAR LINCOLN IN GLENDALE. I'VE HAD OVER 4 CASES WITH FORD CORPORATE ABOUT MY CLUTCH AND TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND EVERY COUPLE MONTHS THEY CHANGE THE REGIONAL MANAGER I WAS DEALING WITH AND EVERY SINGLE CASE HAS MYSTERIOUSLY BEEN CLOSED FOR NO REASON. WHEN I CALL FORD TO ASK WHY THEY ARE CLOSED WHEN THEY HAVEN'T BEEN RESOLVED AND THEY SAY THEY DON'T KNOW.
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON COMING HOME FROM WORK MONDAY NIGHT AND WENSDAY I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND FOUND OUT THAT THE PURGE VALVE WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND HAS COLLAPSED MY GAS TANK AND I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP, GAS TANK, FUEL TUBE ASSEMBLY. ALL COST $2000. THE SERVICE TECH STATED THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND FORD REFUSES TO HELP
I HAVE BEEN HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH MY 2012 FORD FOCUS. WE PURCHASED THE CAR BRAND NEW OFF THE LOT IT HAD 4 MILES ON IT WHEN PURCHASED. NOT EVEN A YEAR AFTER PURCHASE WE STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH THE GEARS NOT WANTING TO SHIFT PROPERLY. WE SENT CAR TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. IT WAS FIXED FOR A WHILE UP UNTIL RECENTLY AND WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET IT FIXED SINCE. I GOT INTO A WRECK BECAUSE MY CAR BOGGED OUT AT A REDLIGHT CAUSING ME TO GET STUCK UNDER A REDLIGHT AND BEING HIT WHILE OCCUPYING THE ROAD. MY CAR HAS BEEN AT DEALERSHIP EVER SINCE. THEY CALLED US ABOUT ONE WEEK AFTER THE WRECK TO LET ME KNOW THAT THE RECALL FOR THE TRANSMISSION MODULE HAD BEEN FIXED AND THEY DROVE IT AND EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT FINE. SO MY HUSBAND GOES AND GETS THE CAR AND IT BREAKS DOWN ON HIM NOT FAR FROM LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR JUST COMPLETELY QUIT SHIFTING AND BOGGED OUT AND RPM SHOT UP WAY HIGH. HE HAD TO LEAVE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SO HERE GOES TRIP 3 BACK TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS FOR THE SAME THING THAT HAS SUPPOSED TO HAD BEEN FIXED. WHY HAS THE GOVERNMENT ISSUED A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION FOR THESE CARS. THEY ARE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.
SINCE SEPTEMBER 2014, THE TRANSMISSION HAS SHUDDLERS, AND SHAKES VIOLENLY, WHILE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES, DEACCELERATES OR EVEN IN REVERSE. THE TRANSMISSION IS EXTREMELY LOUD WHILE THE VEHICLE IS EITHER DRIVE OR REVERSE AS WELL. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO FOUR DIFFERENT FORD DEALERS AT FIVE DIFFERENT FOR THIS ISSUE AND YET THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT REPAIRED. SINCE SEPTEMBER 2014 TO PRESENT THE VEHICLE ISSUES HAS WORSEN BY INCREASED EXCESSIVE NOISE LEVELS AND THE DRIVABILITY AS WELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. DAYS AFTER THE FAILURE, THE KEY WAS INSERTED IN THE IGNITION AND THE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT RETURNED TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 84,000. UPDATED 04/20/16*LJ *CN
I UNLOCK THE CAR AND OPENED THE REAR DOOR AND TRIED TO CLOSE IT BACK AND IT WOULDN'T CATCH THE LATCH STOPPED WORKING. THE DOOR WOULDN'T STAY CLOSED EVEN WHEN I TRIED TO LOCK IT. I WAS TOLD BY DEALER THERE WAS NO RECALL ON IT. I HAVE ATTACHED AN INVOICE OF THE REPAIR.
I DRIVE A 2012 FORD FOCUS. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN JANUARY 2015. IN THE FALL OF 2015 MY CAR BEGAN JOLTING EVERY TIME I PUT PRESSURE ON THE GAS, THIS WAS ALARMING. WHEN IT BECAME WORSE, I BOUGHT THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, AND CAME TO FIND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS RECALLED. TO FIX THIS FORD HAD A STRICT PROTOCOL TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION IN A 3 STEP PROCESS. THE MECHANICS ARE ONLY TOLD TO DO STEP 1, AND THEN IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS MONTHS AFTER THE REPAIR, CONTINUE WITH STEP 2 AND SO ON. THE TRANSMISSION STARTED JOLTING AGAIN A FEW MONTHS LATER, THIS TIME WORSE. I HAVE BEEN WAITING A MONTH FOR THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO GET THAT PART THAT WILL "FIX" MY PROBLEM, WHILE I WAS ASSURED THE PROBLEM WOULD NOT GET WORSE. IN THAT TIME A PIECE IN THE EXHAUST HAS ALSO BEEN RECALLED, NEITHER ONE OF MY WINDOWS IN THE FRONT TWO SEATS WILL GO DOWN, AND THE JOLTING HAS BECOME INCREDIBLY UNSAFE. THERE HAVE BEEN TWO OCCASIONS WHERE MY CAR HAS JUST COME TO A COMPLETELY ALARMING STOP WHILE DRIVING UP TO 20 MPH, ON A BUSY TWO LANE STREET. I TAKE THIS STREET EVERYDAY TO AND FROM WORK. THERE IS NO OTHER OPTION. I AVOID THE HIGHWAY COMPLETELY NOW. I FEEL COMPLETELY UNSAFE AND ON GUARD AT ALL TIMES WHILE I AM DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. BECAUSE OF MY EXPERIENCE WTH THIS CAR IN ONLY A YEAR I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A FORD VEHICLE EVER AGAIN. I REGRET EVER DRIVING IT OFF OF THE LOT. I AM ONLY 25 YEARS OLD, AND CAN'T AFFORD TO TRADE THIS IN RIGHT NOW, AND THAT IS ALL I WANT TO DO. IT IS NOT A NICE FEELING TO HAVE A PIT IN YOUR STOMACH EVERY TIME YOU BUCKLE YOUR SEATBELT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR UNLATCHED AND OPENED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT WRAPPED THE SEAT BELT WEBBING AROUND THE DOOR HANDLE AND CONNECTED TO THE SEAT SECURELY TO PREVENT THE DOOR FROM OPENING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THERE WAS AN UNKNOWN WARNING MESSAGE THAT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE STEERING WHEEL FUNCTION AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000. ...UPDATED 03-10-16 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE EPAS SYSTEM WENT OFFLINE. AND THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE EPAS SYSTEM RETURNED. THE FAILURE OCCURED WHILE DRIVING AND ATTEMPTING TO CLIMB A SNOW COVERED ROAD. UPDATED 11/2/2017*JS
FOCUS HAS BEEN UNDER MANY RECALLS AND AT FORD FOR REPAIR MULTIPLE TIMES FOR TRANSMISSION. EVERY 6 MONTHS ISSUES OCCUR CAUSING ME TO TAKE BACK INTO FORD. LAST COUPLE WEEKS I NOTICED INTERMITTENTLY, WHEN I TAKE FOOT OFF ACCELORATOR, RPMS CONTINUE TO INCREASE, AND CAR DOES NOT SLOW DOWN, CAUSING ME TO PUMP BREAKS MULTIPLE TIMES TO BE ABLE TO STOP. YESTERDAY DURING A SNOW STORM, I AGAIN TOOK FOOR OFF ACCELERATOR, THIS TIME THE CAR AGAIN WOULD STILL CONTINUE TO DRIVE WITHOUT MY CONTROL, CAUSING ME TO SPIN OUT, NOT ONCE BUT THREE TIMES. I DID NOT GET HIT BY OTHER CARS AS EVERYONE WAS GOING SLOW, BUT I DID HAVE TO CALL INTO WORK AS MY CAR WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THIS IS NOW A SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY FOCUS, AND MYSELF, AND MY PAYCHECK. SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE AS FORD, HAS OFFERED NOTHING BUT TO KEEP BRINGING IT BACK WHEN ISSUES OCCUR. THIS IS NOT APPROPRIATE CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND I FEEL THERE IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY VEHICLE.
CLUTCH SLIPPING; 60200 MILES ON THE CAR. CLUTCH IS SLIPPING AS WAS CONFIRMED BY MY MECHANIC. THE CLUTCH HAS TO REPLACED AND FORD WILL NOT FIX IT. NO REASON THE CLUTCH SHOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED THIS SOON. I HAVE HAD OTHER MANUAL VEHICLES WHERE THE CLUTCH LASTED 150K OR EVEN 190K MILES. CLEARLY A FAULTY DESIGN AND OR PRODUCT. BUYER BEWARE

THIS CAR HAS A CLUTCH PROBLEM AND FORD KNEW IT AND A RECALL WAS NEVER ISSUE. I NOW HAVE TO SPEND OVER $1400 TO REPAIR THE CAR.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2012 FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE IDLED ROUGH AND THE ENGINE STOPPED WORKING. RESTARTED AND TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER. DEALER STATED THAT THE EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM HAD PULLED A VACUUM ON THE FUEL TANK CAUSING RAW FUEL TO ENTER THE EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE ENGINE CAUSING THE ISSUES. THE TANK HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO COLLAPSE AND THE EVAP TANK, TUBING, CONTROL VALVE AND FUEL PUMP. PER FORD TSB 11-09-03. SHOULDN'T THIS BE A RECALL?
THE CAR JUST STARTS MAKING A GRINDING NOISE AND THE GEARS SLIP OUT OF PLACE
MY CAR HAS BEEN SHUTTERING AND JERKING AND SHAKING DOES NOT SHIFT INTO GEARS AND THE CAR DROPPED AND WILL ACCELERATE BY ITS SELF . THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2014
I HAD STARTED MY CAR AND WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AT HEB AND I NOTICED THAT I DID NOT HAVE POWER STEERING, THIS HAPPENED BEFORE WHILE I WAS TRYING TO BACK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE STEERING WAS BACK, NOW I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR. FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR WORSE DEAD.
POWTER TRAIN TCM MODULE; REPLACED ON 8/4/15 WITH 49427 MILES. VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF GEAR. ALONG WITH HESITATION WHILE DRIVING IN RESIDENTIAL AREA. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE TCM WAS FOUND DEFECTIVE. MODULE WAS REPLACED AND PROGRAMMED TO LATEST "STANDARDS" .ON 1/4/2015 POWER TRAIN TCM MODULE REPLACED WITH 55488 MILES. CAR WORKED FINE THE DAY PRIOR THEN WOULD NOT START THE FOLLOWING MORNING IN GARAGE. REMOVED BATTERY AND HAD IT TESTED AT AUTO STORE AND IT TESTED GOOD. VEHICLE HAD TO BE JUMPED TO START. THEN WARNING CAME ON DASH SHOWED TRANSMISSION FAILURE HAVE SERVICE. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND FOUND THAT TCM MODULE WAS BAD. SERVICE DEPT ALSO STATED THAT THE BATTERY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED DUE TO BAD CELL. THE BATTERY WAS TESTED EARLIER IN THE WEEK AND FOUND TO BE PROPERLY CHARGED. OK'D THE BATTERY REPLACEMENT THEN WAS NOTIFIED THE STARTER WAS NOW BAD. SERVICE ATTENDANT DID NOT DIRECTLY ADMIT TO THE TCM MODULE CAUSING THESE OTHER ISSUES BUT ADVISED TO KEEP ALL RECEIPTS DUE TO CLASS ACTION AGAINST FORD. ATTENDANT ALSO STATED THAT SOME VEHICLES HAVE HAD THE TCM REPLACED 3-5 TIMES. WARRANTY HAS ONLY BEEN EXTENDED TO 100,00 MILES
I PURCHASED MY CAR IN JUNE 2012. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH THREE TIMES DUE TO ISSUES. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE ROOF LINER REINSTALLED AS IT HAD COME LOOSE. NOW, ONLY A MONTH AFTER THE $700 REPAIR FOR THE ROOF, I AM NOW TOLD TO PAY $950 TO REPAIR MY BRAKE BOOSTER WHICH AS BROKEN AND MESSED UP THE PRIMARY SHAFT. MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON IT AND IS ONLY 3.5 YEARS OLD, YET SEEMS TO BE FALLING APART NOW THAT IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I ASKED IF I HAD DONE ANYTHING TO CAUSE THE BRAKE BOOSTER TO FAIL, AND WAS TOLD "NO, IT IS JUST A MECHANICAL FAILURE," THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO WAY THAT THE MECHANICS COULD HAVE SEEN THE ISSUE, EVEN THOUGH IT MYSTERIOUSLY STARTED LESS THAN 2 WEEKS AFTER I HAD IT IN THE SHOP FOR OVER A WEEK. AFTER GETTING THE ROOF LINER AND CLUTCH REINSTALLED I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD ALSO UPDATED ALL OF THE SOFTWARE IN MY CAR. A LITTLE OVER A WEEK LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. I THOUGHT IT WAS A SOFTWARE GLITCH AS THE LIGHT TURNED OFF WHEN I STARTED DRIVING AGAIN. IT HAPPENED ONCE MORE ABOUT A WEEK OR SO LATER, BUT IT WAS AT THE SAME STOPLIGHT, SO I THOUGHT IT MAY BE THE PARTICULAR ANGLE OF THE CAR AT THAT LIGHT OR SOMETHING, BUT RESOLVED TO TAKE IT IN IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS GONE FOR 2 WEEKS FOR CHRISTMAS BREAK, THEN WHEN I CAME BACK THE LOW BRAKE FLUID LIGHT CAME ON EVERY TIME I WAS STOPPED FOR MORE THAN 30 SECONDS. I STOPPED DRIVING MY CAR UNTIL I COULD GET IT INTO THE SHOP. SO, WITH LESS THAN A MONTH OF DRIVING MY CAR SINCE IT WAS LAST IN THE SHOP, APPARENTLY $950 IN DAMAGE WAS DONE THAT, WHILE NOT MY FAULT "COULD NOT HAVE BEEN AVOIDED" AND IS SOMETHING I HAVE TO PAY FOR IF I WANT MY CAR TO BE SAFE TO DRIVE.

I HAVE A 2012 FORD FOCUS SE HATCHBACK. WITH FAULTY DOOR LATCHES. TWO (DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR, AND DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR) HAVE BEEN REPLACED. FORD HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM, INCLUDING MANY 2012 FOCUS MODELS, HOWEVER, MY 2012 FOCUS WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT BEEN VERY HELPFUL.
CAR JERKS AND BUCKS WHEN PROCEEDING FROM STOP TO ACCELERATING. IT'S BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE LAST YEAR OR SO AND SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. I HAVE ONLY 25000 MILES ON THE CAR.
I BOUGHT MY VEHICLE IN 2015. 2 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR SHUTS OFF. IT WAS TOWED AND FIXED BY FORD STATING THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. AS TIME WENT ON THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AND JERK SWITCHING OUT OF GEARS. WHEN I TOOK IT TO FORD THEY STATED I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION BUT IT WASN'T THE PART COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. IN OCTOBER I WAS DRIVING AND THE INDICATOR COMES ON STATING TRANSMISSION HOT. THE CAR FROM THERE WOULD NOT REVERSE. I WAS IN A DIFFERENT STATE ON VACATION AND HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL SHOP DUE TO FORD NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE THE CAR FOR A WEEK. IT WAS STATED THE VEHICLES TRANSMISSION WAS GONE AND I WOULD NEED A NEW ONE. I SPENT OVER $1900 ON A REBUILT TRANSMISSION ONLY FOR THE CAR TO STILL BE SLIPPING IN AND OUT OF GEARS. IF I AM MAKING A TURN THE CAR STALLS AND JERKS BEFORE IT PICKS UP.
THE TRUNK LID OPENS WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 7 TIMES DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS INCLUDING HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE FORD DEALER TO CHECK FOR PROBLEMS. NO PROBLEM IS EVER FOUND BUT IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. NOTE THE ONLY WAY TO NORMALLY OPEN THE TRUNK IS WITH THE REMOTE. I HAVE TRIED USING THE SPARE KEY TO DETERMINE WHETHER IT IS THE REMOTE SENDING A SIGNAL WHILE DRIVING BUT THE PROBLEM OCCURS WITH BOTH KEYS. MY SUSPICION IS THERE IS SOME RF SIGNAL WHICH IS CAUSING THIS TO OCCUR. THE LATCH IS FINE AND FORD CONFORMED NO ISSUES WITH THE LATCH.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.

PARKED UP AND VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. REAR PASSENGER DOOR WAS OPENED TO GET BAGS OUT, THEN WHEN SHUT WOULD NO LONGER LATCH. NO PROCESS WOULD MAKE DOOR LATCH, DOOR AJAR LIGHT REMAINED ON. SECURED DOOR TEMPORARILY WITH CORDS. TOOK CAR INTO FUTURE FORD OF CLOVIS CA, THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED IN THE SLIGHTEST TO HEAR MY CONCERNS AND TO HOW DANGEROUS THIS COULD HAVE BEEN HAD DOOR SWUNG OPEN IF I'D BEEN DRIVING. I POINTED OUT THE MANY INCIDENTS I NOTICED ON VARIOUS WEBSITES AND THAT FIESTA'S HAVING SAME PARTS HAD BEEN RECALLED AND REPAIRED. THEY WERE ONLY INTERESTED IN CHARGING ME TO INVESTIGATE PROBLEM AND SEE IF THE LOCK WAS THE ISSUE. IF THE GUY HAD STEPPED OUT FROM BEHIND HIS COUNTER AND JUST LOOKED I THINK HE COULD HAVE CONFIRMED IT, BUT WANTED TO CHARGE ME A $100 TO DO THAT. I ENDED UP PURCHASING PARTS FROM EBAY AND INSTALLING IT MYSELF. NOTHING TO SAY THIS ONE WON'T FAIL AT ANY TIME. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THEIR SAFETY LATCHES WHAT SO EVER. AS FOR FUTURE FORD OF CLOVIS DISGUSTING ATTITUDE TOWARDS VEHICLE SAFETY ONLY INTERESTED IN $$$$$$$$
TODAY, WHILE PUTTING SEVERAL THINGS IN THE BACK OF THE CAR, MY WIFE NOTICED THAT THE REAR DRIVES SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, IT APPEARS THAT THE LATCH OF THE DOOR IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND THE DOOR IS NOT ABLE TO BE CLOSED. IT IS CURRENTLY SITTING, UNDRIVEABLE, IN THE GARAGE. THIS VEHICLE IS MY DAILY DRIVER. LUCKILY, I AM ABLE TO DRIVE MY WIFES CAR THIS WEEK AS SHE IS STILL OFF FOR THE HOLIDAY. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN, THE FAILURE OF THE LATCH IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON OTHER FORD VEHICLES AND HAVE BEEN RECALLED.

HAD TO USE ROPE TO BIND DOOR TO DRIVERS REAR DOOR AS I HAD TO GET VEHICLE BACK HOME. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND AM GLAD IT DID NOT HAPPEN WHILST DRIVING OR BRAKING. FINAL STRAW CHRISTMAS 2015 DRIVING DOWN THE STREET LOOKING AT THE LIGHTS ENJOYING THE COLD WEATHER, HOLIDAYS, ETC. FAMILY AND I SPENT THE REMAINDER OF THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY IN A RENTAL. ONLY TO BE TOLD "GLAD THAT DID NOT HAPPEN TO YA ON THE HIGHWAY HUH, IT WAS ONLY THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED" IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I HAD BEEN AT SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY!!! DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AND THE DRIVER DOOR LATCH FAILED AND THE DOOR WOULDN'T STAY SHUT. DEALERSHIP SAID DEFECT IN DOOR LATCH. SAID THERE IS A RECALL BUT ONLY FOR FUSION & FIESTA MODELS. 2 MONTHS LATER SAME HAPPENED TO DRIVER SIDE BACK DOOR. AGAIN TOLD BY FORD NOT COVERED, HOWEVER THEY DID REIMBURSE 2 OTHER 2012 FORD FOCUS OWNERS FOR SAME ISSUE. WHEN I PRESENTED FORD WITH THIS INFO, THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT GOING TO COVER THIS SAFETY DEFECT AT THIS TIME....
MY PROBLEM FIRST STARTED WITH THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING UP UPON START OF VEHICLE AT RANDOM TIMES. I COULD PUT THE VEHICLE IN FORWARD OR REVERSE AND DRIVE BUT THE WHEEL WOULDN'T TURN. I WOULD TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON TO GET THE WHEEL TO FINALLY START TURNING. AFTER A FEW DAYS OF THAT, I STARTED NOTICING PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING AT HIGH SPEEDS. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY I WAS HAVING TROUBLE MAINTAINING A STRAIGHT PATH. I WOULD HAVE TO CONSTANTLY MAKE MICRO ADJUSTMENTS TO CORRECT MY PATH. THEN I STARTED NOTICING THAT AT CERTAIN POINTS WHILE DRIVING 65+ MPH THAT MY WHEEL WOULD HAVE SPOTS THAT WERE DIFFICULT TO TURN. FOR EXAMPLE TO MERGE FROM LEFT LANE TO RIGHT LANE WOULD REQUIRE EXCESSIVE FORCE AND THEN WOULD GET EASY AGAIN. THIS IS NOT SAFE, IT WAS SNOWING OUT AND THE JOLT OF THE VEHICLE THAT RESULTS IN MY CORRECTIONS CAUSED ME TO SLIDE AND ALMOST LOOSE CONTROL AT TIMES. IF A WEAKER PERSON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE THEY MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO OVERCOME THE STEERING ISSUES. I CANT TAKE THE CAR ON 55+ MPH ROADS ANYMORE BECAUSE THE STEERING IS SO BAD I AM CONSTANTLY CORRECTING AND FIGHTING THE POWER STEERING. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE FORD SHOP AND THEY SAID ITS A $1700 FIX WITH NO RECALL/WARRANTY FROM FORD. SEEMS LIKE THERE IS AN AWFUL LOT OF ISSUES WITH THIS STEERING SYSTEM THAT ALL SOUND THE SIMILAR. *JS
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY AND USING CRUISE CONTROL VEHICLE FAILS TO MAINTAIN SPEED. THE CRUISE CONTROL ABRUPTLY SHUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING AND DRIVER HAS TO TAKE OVER. THE VEHICLE MAINTENANCE LIGHT TURNS ON/OFF PERIODICALLY. DEALER HAS INVESTIGATED AND DIAGNOSED THIS AS THE WIRING HARNESS UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT SHORT CIRCUITING AND CAUSING POWER ISSUES. I BELIEVE THIS MAY BE RELATED TO THE EXISTING WIRING ISSUE AT THE MICHIGAN PLANT (HTTP://WWW.CLICKONDETROIT.COM/CONSUMER/RECALLS/FORD-RECALLS-160000-FOCUS-ESCAPE-MODELS-FOR-WIRING-PROBLEM). MAY BE RELATED TO REPORTS OF SUDDEN POWER LOSS IN FOCUS ELECTRIC VEHICLES.
STEERING WHEEL LOCKED (EVEN THOUGH I HAD PLENTY OF FLUID). LUCKILY I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS MATTER. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A GEAR ASY - STE AND IT WAS A $1142.15 FIX. THE CAR IS NOT THAT OLD AND I ONLY HAVE $50K MILES ON IT. PLUS I NEEDED BRAKES.
