DRIVING A 2012 FORD FOCUS AVIS RENTAL AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH IN A LOWE'S PARKING LOT. I TURNED TO PARK THE VEHICLE AND THE SIDEWALL OF THE LEFT FRONT TIRE, A CONTINENTAL -CONTI 215/55/16-CONTI PRO, BRUSHED THE CONCRETE CURBING AND THE SIDEWALL BLEW. THE TIRE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED, HAD TO BE REPLACED. AVIS WANTS $200+ TO REPLACE A TIRE THAT SEEMS TO HAVE A SERIOUS SIDEWALL PROBLEM; A TIRE THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ON A RENTAL IN THE FIRST PLACE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS SHIFTING ODD. THERE WAS NO POWER IN THE LOW GEARS. SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND WAS VERY HARSH. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO FORD THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW CLUTCH. I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 30000 MILES ON IT AND WAS SURPRISED BY THIS. IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THEN IN SEPTEMBER OF 2014 I STARTED HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. DURING THAT TIME I HAD PUT ON 40000 OR SO. BROUGHT IT BACK TO FORD AND THEY SAID IT WAS A PART THAT WAS "RECALLED". I HAD THE SEALS AND EVERYTHING ELSE REPLACED UNDER THE 14M01 RECALL. THIS INCLUDED A NEW CLUTCH AGAIN. NOW IT IS MAY 2015, I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR ABOUT 20000 OR SO FROM THE LAST TIME I HAD ANY WORK DONE AND ALL OF THE SYMPTOMS OF MY LAST TO REPAIRS ARE BACK. I NEED ANOTHER NEW CLUTCH (THIS WILL BE THE 4TH IN THE CAR). CONSIDERING ALL OF MY DRIVING IS ON THE HIGHWAY THIS NOT GOOD. IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN.
WHEN DRIVER ENTERED VEHICLE, STARTED IT, AND BEGAN TO STEER, THE SILVER FINISH ON THE RIGHT SIDE, TOP OF THE STEERING WHEEL CROSSBEAM HAD SPLIT AND CURLED UP, WHICH CAUSED LACERATIONS ACROSS TWO FINGERS. THE CAR HAD BEEN FINE ON PREVIOUS USE, AND HAD BEEN UNUSED FOR SEVERAL DAYS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE FINISH ITSELF. *TR
FLAKING CHROME FROM AROUND STEERING WHEEL,CUTTING FINGERS. *TR
I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN DECEMBER OF 2012 AND BY MAY OF 2013, THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP FOR MONTHS. THE MOST SUBSTANTIAL ISSUE WAS AN ISSUE WITH SPEED CONTROL IN THE CAR WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. AT ABOUT 20 MILES AN HOUR THE CAR WOULD HAVE DIFFICULTY GOING UP TO 40MPH, BUT WOULD THEN JERK UP TO HIGHER SPEEDS AFTERWARD. THE CLUTCH SYSTEM WAS REPLACED IN THE CAR ON MAY 24, 2013 AND SEEMED TO BE FINE, BUT I STILL FILED A CLAIM WITH THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY. LAST WEEK ON MAY 14, 2014 THE BEGAN TO HAVE THE SAME TRANSMISSION ISSUES. I CONTACTED FORD AGAIN AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT IN, AS IT WAS COVERED UNDER THE 12 MONTHS/12000 MILES EXTENDED PARTS WARRANTY. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY BACK IN THE SHOP AND I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS ISSUE WILL NOT BE RESOLVED. I'M ALSO CONCERNED THAT THERE WAS ALREADY A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE IN 2012 FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND LITTLE IS BEING DONE NOW TO RECTIFY THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE. *JS
THE TRANSMISSION SHUTTERS AND HESITATES TO SHIFT INTO GEAR WHILE ACCELERATING FROM STOP. HAVE TAKEN IT TO FORD MULTIPLE TIMES AND PROBLEM COMES BACK EVERY TIME. *TR
UPDATE 05/20/2013 THIS VEHICLE KEEPS GETTING WORSE: ?REVERSE DOES NOT WORK VERY WELL AS IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO FUNCTION. ON A SLIGHT DECLINE THE CAR ROLLS FORWARD AND REVERSE HAS DIFFICULTY ENGAGING. ?FROM A STOP AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT, THE CAR WILL ATTEMPT TO LUNGE FORWARD SOMETIMES. ?FROM A STOP AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT, THE CAR WILL OFTEN NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS PRESSED. ?AT ANY GIVEN TIME (FULL STOP OR IN MOTION) THE ACCELERATOR MUST BE PRESSED HALF WAY OR MORE TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO GET THE CAR TO ACCELERATE. ?THE CAR LUNGES A LOT AND MISSES-THEN LUNGES WHILE DRIVING. *TR
WHILE COMING TO A STOP, THE STOP SAFELY NOW WARNING CHIMED AND VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. IT WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK, OR NEUTRAL TO ALLOW IT TO BE PUSHED OFF THE ROAD. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF POWERING IT ON AND OFF IT EVENTUALLY RESTARTED AND WORKED WITHOUT INCIDENT UNTIL RECENTLY ON 8/15/13 THE SAME MESSAGE OCCURRED AT A STOPLIGHT AND THE CAR AGAIN LOST ALL POWER. AFTER ABOUT 2 MINUTES IT STARTED AND RAN OK. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION VIBRATES IN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR AND SOMETIMES DOESN'T GET INTO PROPER GEAR. WHEN SHUTTING VEHICLE OFF SOMETIMES LURCHES . WHEN STOPPED ON A HILL, IN GEAR, IF YOU TAKE FOOT OFF THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL BACK LIKE IT'S IN NEUTRAL HAVE RETURNED 3 TIMES TO DEALERSHIP STILL NOT FIXED NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. *TR

VEHICLE SHUDDERS/JERKS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM STOP AT SLOW TO MODERATE SPEED. THIS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. IT CONTINUES TO OCCUR AFTER MULTIPLE REPAIRS. *TR
I HAD JUST EXITED THE FREEWAY AND WAS DRIVING UP THE STREET WHEN MY CAR SHUDDERED AND JOLTED FURIOUSLY AND SORT OF STOPPED BUT I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING FOR A SHORT WHILE AND WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN IT SUDDENLY ONCE AGAIN JOLTED MORE FURIOUSLY AND COMPLETELY STOPPED AND NO GEARS WERE ABLE TO ENGAGE AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. THANK GOD I WAS ABLE TO BACKUP INTO A PARKING LOT OFF THE VERY BUSY STREET AS I COULD NOT MOVE FORWARD AT ALL. I HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT HAS REMAINED TO DATE FROM SUNDAY NIGHT UNTIL TODAY WHILE THEY ARE TRYING TO REPROGRAM AND FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE MAKING TURNS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
WHEN TURNING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN THE FRONT OF THE CAR MAKES A METAL ON METAL SCRAPING SOUND (INTERMITTINGLY) ALSO THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T SEEM TO ALWAYS KICK IN WHEN AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP THE CAR SHAKES AS THE GAS PEDAL IS PUSHED. I'VE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT, IT IS JUST HOW THE CAR OPERATES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE REAR WINDOW SUDDENLY SHATTERED WITH NO APPARENT EXTERNAL FORCE. THERE WAS A LOUD POP/BANG AND RAPID DECOMPRESSION IN THE CABIN AND THE ENTIRE REAR WINDOW WAS SHATTERED. UPON CHECKING THE DAMAGE AFTER STOPPING THE CAR, THE GLASS HAD BLOWN OUTWARD. THERE WERE BRAKE LINES EMANATING FROM A POINT NEAR THE REAR WIPER, ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NO VISIBLE MARK ON THE GLASS OR THE WIPER OF AN IMPACT. *TR
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2012 FORD FOCUS ON 2/20/2013. ON SUNDAY, APRIL 21, 2013, WHILE IT WAS SITTING PARKED IN MY DRIVE WAY, I NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE HAD A RATHER SIZEABLE "BUBBLE" IN THE SIDEWALL. FEARING THAT IT COULD BURST, I DECIDED THAT MY BEST COURSE OF ACTION WAS TO SLOWLY DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT AT WHICH IS ONLY ABOUT 5 MILES FROM MY HOME. ONCE THEY LOOKED AT IT ON MONDAY, THEY INFORMED ME THAT I MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING AND THE TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WOULD COST ME $200. I WOULD HAVE HAD TO HIT SOMETHING PRETTY GOOD TO CAUSE THE DAMAGE THAT THIS TIRE HAD. ALSO THE TIRE WAS NOT SCRAPED IN ANY WAY. UPON LOOKING AT SOME FORUMS ON LINE I NOTICED A FEW THAT INDICATED THE EXACT PROBLEM OCCUR WITH THE TIRES ON THEIR FORD FOCUS WITH THE CONTINENTAL 215/55R16 TIRE. THE DEALER, BEAU TOWNSEND FORD IN VANDALIA, OHIO REFUSES TO CONSIDER THE POSSIBILITY THAT THESE TIRES COULD BE DEFECTIVE. IF THIS IS A PROBLEM, I AM CONCERNED THAT CRASHES COULD OCCUR RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. I ALSO CONTACTED FORD MOTOR CO TO EXPRESS MY CONCERN, AND THEY TOO ARE UNWILLING TO ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY. I HOPE THAT SOMEONE WILL AT LEAST TAKE THE TIME TO INVESTIGATE IF THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM THAT NEEDS ATTENTION. *TR
METALLIC STEERING WHEEL TRIM IS PEELING AT THE TOP LEFT SIDE OF STEERING WHEEL. PEELING MATERIAL IS VERY SHARP AND CAN EASILY CUT SKIN, AS IT DID TO ME AND MANY OTHERS AS SEEN ONLINE AFTER DOING A SIMPLE SEARCH FOR "FORD FOCUS PEELING STEERING WHEEL TRIM". I'M ALSO CONCERNED THAT IN RARE CIRCUMSTANCES THE AIRBAG ITSELF COULD BE CUT BY THE SHARP TRIM WHEN DEPLOYING. *TR
THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN FRONT OF THE CALDECOTT TUNNEL THAT SEPARATES THE EAST BAY TO CONTRA COSTA COUNTY. THE VEHICLE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC DURING COMMUTE TIME. ALSO RESULTED IN A TERRIBLE BACKUP ON THE HIGHWAY. SPENT OVER 3 HOURS DEALING WITH THIS BREAK DOWN THAT INCLUDED FINDING CARE FOR OUR CHILDREN AND FINDING SOMEONE TO PICK HER UP AT DEALERSHIP AS IT WAS AFTER HOURS. *TR
SHUTTERING AND STALLING UPON ACCELERATION.CAR TENDS TO ROLL BACKWARDS FOR NO APPARENT REASON ON SLIGHT INCLINE. SPEED ACCELERATION AND SPEED DECELERATION AT RANDOM TIMES. CAR HESITATES BADLY WHEN ACCELERATING ON TO ON RAMP TO MERGE WITH INTERSTATE TRAFFIC OR TO PASS A VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY. IT'S LUCK OF THE DAY IF YOU ACCELERATE AND ACTUALLY LIVE OR GET HIT WHEN CAR SHUTTERS AND HESITATES. GOOD LUCK FOCUS OWNERS. *TR
WHILE LEAVING THE PARKING LOT OF A STORE TO ENTER HIGHWAY, MY FOCUS STARTED SPUTTERING AND THEN SHUT COMPLETELY DOWN LEAVING ME AND MY TWO CHILDREN STRANDED IN THE ROAD. WE GOT HELP TO PUSH IT OUT OF THE WAY WHEN ATTEMPTED TRIES TO START DIDN'T WORK. A TOW TRUCK CAME WHEN CALLED AND TOOK IT TO OUR FORD DEALERSHIP HERE WHO JUST CALLED (24 HOURS LATER) TO TELL ME THEY "THINK" THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMP. I HAVE HAD CONTINUAL PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION AS WELL, THIS CAR ROLLS BACK ON EVEN THE SLIGHTEST HILL, HAS CAUSED SOME CLOSE CALLS WHEN VEHICLES ARE CLOSE BEHIND ME. I AM A WORKING MOM WITH A NON-WORKING VEHICLE FOR AT LEAST THE WEEK. *TR

THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T FUNCTION PROPERLY -- DELAYING ON ACCELERATION, THEN 'CATCHING' AND ACCELERATING IN A BURST. I'VE HAD IT 'FIXED' ONCE AND AM TRYING TO GET IT FIXED AGAIN. THEN THE CAR HAS ERRATIC SHIFTING, CLUTCHES ENGAGING AND DISENGAGING WHILE DRIVING, HIGH RPMS. THIS TIME TAKEN TO DEALER FOR SAME ISSUE .DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE CONTROL MODULE AGAIN. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TRANS ON FOCUSFANATICS.COM. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION IN THE CAR HAS BEEN REPROGRAMMED FOR ONCE FOR JERKING AND SLIPPING GEARS THAN TOLD PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER FOR UP TO THREE WEEKS FOR CLUTCH REPLACEMENT. THE CAR SHIFTS ROUGH , SHUTTERS, TOLD BY DRIVER ITS THE WAY I DRIVE. THE TRANSMISSION IS GETTING WORST. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLUTCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
SOMETIMES UPON CRANKING THE CAR AND TRYING TO PUT THE CAR IN GEAR IT COMES UP "TRANSMISSION NOT READY" AND WILL NOT ENGAGE. UPON TAKEOFF, IT JERKS AND SHUDDERS EVERY TIME. GOING UP ANY KIND OF INCLINE, IT GRINDS AND SHAKES OR SHUDDERS. IT NEVER TAKES OFF SMOOTHLY AND I AM AFRAID THAT I AM GOING TO GET STRANDED ANY TIME DUE TO THIS. HOWEVER, TECHNICIANS TELL ME ALL THIS IS NORMAL - IT IS NOT!!!!! I AM TOLD THIS IS DUE TO A NEW TYPE OF ENGINE - HOWEVER IT DOES APPEAR TO BE VERY FAULTY. THIS HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS - WHETHER I AM ON THE HIGHWAY, A TWO LANE ROAD OR IN A PARKING LOT. THIS HAS HAPPENED LOTS OF TIMES AND I HAVE RECORDS WHERE I HAVE TAKEN THIS TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AROUND SIX TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED IT.
METALIC GRINDING NOISE IS HEARD WHEN ACCELERATING AT SLOW SPEEDS. TRANSMISSION SHIFTS AT APPROXIMATELY 1500 RPM AND BETWEEN 10-25 MPH, GRIDING NOISE IS HEARD FOR A FEW SECONDS, THEN STOPS. AS CAR PROCEEDS INTO NEXT GEAR, IF RPM DROPS TO 1500 AND SPEED AGAIN BETWEEN 10-25 MPH, GRINDING NOISE IS HEARD. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO SERAPHIN FORD IN VERNON, THEY CLAIM TO HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR WITHOUT HEARING THE NOISE. A SEPARATE DATE, I TOOK THE CAR TO SERAPHIN FORD, DROVE A MECHANIC IN THE CAR, BUT THE NOISE WAS FAINT AND MECHANIC COULD NOT HEAR IT. SOMETIMES THE SOUND IS FAINT, OTHER TIMES SOUND IS LOUD. NO RHYME OR REASON. I HAVE READ MUCH ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE WITH 2012-2013 FOCUS POWER TRAINS. I AM CONVINCED THERE IS A PROBLEM THAT FORD IS NOT ADDRESSING. ALSO, POWER TRAIN LAGS AND FLUTTERS OFTEN. I HAVE LEARNED TO DRIVE VERY "GENTLY" TO PREVENT LAG/SHUTTER/SURGE WHEN DRIVING. I HAVE NOTICED WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IF I ATTEMPT TO ADJUST THE SPEED USING THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS (TO ADVANCE SPEED), THE ENGINE TAKES OFF, RPM CLIMBS VERY HIGH AND THE ENGINE ROARS. I HAVE TO COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN CRUISE CONTROL AND START OVER AGAIN. IT CAN BE SCARY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS TO HAVE THE ENGINE RACE LIKE THAT.
THE VEHICLE HAS A NASTY SHUDDER WHEN YOU FIRST ACCELERATE. I TOOK THE CAR TO FORD AND THEY REPLACED THE CLUTCH AND SOME SEALS IN THE TRANS. NOW, AT 44,000 MILES THE SHUDDER IS BACK. *TR
I LITTLE WHILE AFTER I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN 2012, IT BEGAN SHUTTERING UPON ACCELERATION. I'VE REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. THEY RAN THEIR COMPUTER TEST WHICH CONFIRMS THERE IS A SHUDDER. HOWEVER, "IT IS NOT OCCURRING FREQUENTLY ENOUGH TO JUSTIFY FIXING IT" ACCORDING TO THE FORD CORPORATE OFFICE, WHO I SPOKE WITH LAST YEAR SOME TIME. IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN AND I WOULD LIKE THEM TO FIX THIS PROBLEM THEY HAVE KNOWN IS AN ISSUE WITH THE FOCUS 2012. OR I WOULD ACCEPT FINANCIAL COMPENSATION TO BE PUT TOWARDS A SAFER AND MORE RELIABLE VEHICLE.
SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE I HAVE HAD CONSISTENT PROBLEMS WHERE I WILL PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER. AT SOME POINTS, WHERE THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED, THE CAR SHAKES A LOT! THERE SEEMS TO BE AN ACCELERATION PROBLEM AND IT IS GETTING MUCH WORSE! I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED YESTERDAY! *TR
I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND HAD MY HAND ON THE STEERING WHEEL . I MOVED MY HAND AND THE CHROME ON MY STEERING WHEEL CUT AND TOOK OFF A CHUCK OF MY PINKY FINGER . MY SKIN WAS STRUCK ON THE CHROME ON MY STEERING WHEEL , I HAD TO PUT PRESSURE ON MY FINGER TO STOP IT FROM BLEEDING ALL OVER THE DRIVER SEAT . I PULLED OVER TO GET MY FIRST AID KITS TO GET A GAUGES ON IT. *TR
THE CHROME TRIM ON MY STEERING WHEEL HAS BEGUN TO CRACK AND FLAKE OFF. I DID NOT NOTICE AT FIRST AND HAD MY FINGER RUN ALONG IT. THE TRIM IS CRACKED MEDAL AND IS VERY SHARP. I HAVE NOT YET CUT MYSELF ENOUGH TO DRAW BLOOD BUT HAVE STUCK, STABBED, AND CAUGHT MY FINGER ON IT EMBEDDING A PIECE OF CHROME TRIM IN MY FINGER LIKE A SLIVER. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE DOCUMENTED ON MULTIPLE FOCUS FORUMS, AND BY OTHER 2012+ FORD FOCUS OWNERS. THIS SEEMS TO ONLY BE AN ISSUE THAT IS ON 2012+ SE SPORT PACKAGES. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING, IT MAKES DRIVING THE CAR DIFFICULT BECAUSE IN MY CASE IT IS RIGHT ABOVE MY STEERING WHEEL MOUNTED RADIO BUTTONS AND CATCHES MY HAND EASILY. FORD IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT THIS IN MY CASE AND ACTUALLY BLAMING ME FOR IT, BUT IN OTHER CASES HAS BOTH REPLACED OTHER OWNERS PIECES AND IN SOME CASES LIKE MINE DONE NOTHING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS MANY PEOPLE IN THE FORUMS HAVE STATED THEY CUT THEMSELVES GOOD ENOUGH TO BLEED. ONE EVEN SAID HIS WIFE NOW REFUSES TO DRIVE THE CAR. FORD REFUSES TO FIX THIS BECAUSE IT WOULD REQUIRE THEM TO WARRANTY AN AIRBAG SINCE THEY DECIDED TO MAKE THE AIRBAG AND TRIM ONE PIECE. DURING A TIGHT TURN ON A BENDY ROAD GOING ABOUT 55 MPH THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. AS IF SOMEONE TURNED THEY KEY OFF. LIGHTS, INFOTAINMENT, STEERING, BRAKES, EVERYTHING WAS EFFECTED. LUCKILY STEERING DOESN'T LOCKUP ON A FORD FOCUS. AND CAN BE STEERED BUT WITHOUT POWER ASSIST. ONCE AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE CAR COULD BE RESTARTED WITH NO INSTRUMENT LIGHTS ON, AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON ONE OF OUR FIRST TRIPS (400 MILES) IN THE WINTER OF 2012 IN SOUTH DAKOTA INTERSTATE 90. THERE WAS SNOW AND ICE PATCHES ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE STEERING WAS EASY TO SLIGHTLY TURN ONE DIRECTION, BUT HARDER TO SLIGHTLY TURN THE OTHER DIRECTION. TRUCKS AND OR WIND ALWAYS MAKES A CAR MOVE AND A PERSON'S STEERING MAKES A CORRECTION FOR THIS. THIS CAR'S STEERING WAS EASY ONE WAY AND NOT AS EASY THE OTHER WAY. VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE THIS WAY. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING VEHICLES FOR 60 YEARS AND NEVER HAD THIS EXPERIENCE BEFORE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALER AND HE SAID THAT FORD DID HAVE SOME RECALLS ON THIS STEERING BEHAVIOR , BUT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED. HE DID DRIVE IT AND SAID IT WASN'T PERFECT, BUT OKAY AS IT WAS ELECTRONICALLY MADE THIS WAY. I WROTE A LETTER TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY SENT ME BACK A LETTER TELLING ME TO WORK IT OUT WITH THE DEALER. I GUESS THEY DIDN'T UNDERSTAND MY LETTER AS I HAD ALREADY TALKED TO THE DEALER AND HE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING WITH IT. I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT WE CAN TRADE IT OFF BEFORE IT CAUSES AN ACCIDENT SOME DAY. PROBABLY NOT ANOTHER FORD! I ALSO QUESTION WHY THIS STEERING BEHAVIOR WASN'T BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE NHTSA? THERE WERE RECALLS BEFORE ON THIS SAME PROBLEM. I NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION WASN'T SHIFTING CORRECTLY AND IT WAS HESITATING. THIS HAPPENED OFTEN AND FINALLY I WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION TWICE ON THE SAME DAY AND THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO SECOND GEAR AND BEGAN SHAKING AND MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A HUGE ACCIDENT. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY FORD HAS NOT DONE A RECALL ON THIS CAR. I WAS TOLD MY TRANSMISSION HAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE AND THE PART THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WAS ON BACKORDER AND COULD TAKE A FEW MONTHS. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT I AM NUMBER 1900 ON THE WAITING LIST FOR THIS PART IN MY REGION. I ASKED IF I COULD TRADE MY CAR IN FOR ANOTHER MODEL OF CAR AT THE SAME COST AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD ONLY PAY ME $14,000 FOR MY FOCUS. SO BASICALLY MY CAR DEPRECIATED $10,000 IN 4 MONTHS AND FORD WILL NOT DO WHAT IS RIGHT AND REPLACE THE CAR FOR ME AND TAKE THE LOSS. I'M EXTREMELY DISGUSTED THAT FORD WAS EVEN SELLING THESE CARS WHEN THEY KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND EVEN MORE SO THAT THEY WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
CHROME PEELING AWAY FROM PLASTIC LEAVING SHARP EDGES WHERE FINGERS ARE ON STEERING WHEEL PEELING IS BI LATERAL ON THE TOP PART OF THE AREA WHERE THE CONTROLS ARE FOR THE SYNC AND VEHICLE DATA CONTROLS. RUNNING HAND ACROSS THIS SECTION OF THE STEERING WHEEL CAN RESULT IN JERKING THE HAND AWAY BECAUSE OF THE SHARP EDGE. *TR
BOUGHT 11/9/2012 SIX MONTHS LATER REC'D EMISSION RECALL, 1YR LATER WOULD NOT START, DEAD IN GROCERY PARKING, DEALER SAID EMISSION AGAIN, 2ND YR RADIO WENT OUT, 3RD YR CATALYLICT CONVERTER NEED TO BE CHANGED, 5/16/2017 WAS CHARGED $1805.72, SAID NOT EMISSION BUT IT WAS DOING THE SAME THING AS BEFORE, DEAD HAD TO BE TOWED AGAIN TO DEALER, DEALER SAID, "CODES PO420, PO7A3 TESTED, FOUND CONVERTER STOPPED UP, SHIFT ACTUATOR FAULTY, REMOVED TRANSMISSION REPLACED CLUTCH ACTUATORSAND CLUTCH, REMOVED & REPLACED MANIFOLD/COVERTER ASSEMBLY. NOW TWICE SO FAR ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT, NO POWER, GOES 5 MILES....... WHEN TURNED OFF IN ABOUT 45-1 HR, STARTS.... ALL THIS WHILE DRIVING OR PARKED IN A PARKING LOT.
THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A 6-SPEED DUAL CLUTCH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. WHILE UNDER HEAVY BRAKING THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL. THE RESULT WAS THE BRAKE PEDAL LOSING POWER ASSIST FROM THE ENGINE. THEN BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS TRYING TO RECOVER FROM THE NEAR STALL, I WAS UNABLE ACCELERATE TO AVOID AN ONCOMING CAR. THE ENGINE DID RECOVER, BUT IT TOOK SEVERAL SECONDS (AND A LOT OF BUCKING AND SPUTTERING) BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR AFTER COMING TO A STOP. THE WEEK PRIOR, I HAD THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AT A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD SHUDDER DURING ACCELERATION. THE DEALERSHIP REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE, BUT LESS NOTICEABLE THAN BEFORE BEING SERVICED. THIS NEW ISSUE WITH STALLING UNDER HEAVING BRAKING DID NOT OCCUR PRIOR TO THE SERVICING. AFTER THE NEAR ACCIDENT, I WANTED TO KNOW IF THE PROBLEM WAS A FLUKE OR IF IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. I HAVE FOUND THAT I CAN RECREATE THE ISSUE ALMOST EVERY TIME THE CAR NEARS A STOP UNDER HEAVY BRAKING. THE CAR IS SCHEDULED FOR SERVICE FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
FROM STOP THE CAR WILL HESITATE TO ACCELERATE, SOMETIMES IT WON'T BE IN GEAR OTHER TIMES IT WILL BE IN THE WRONG GEAR (I.E. 2ND OR 3RD INSTEAD OF 1ST). AT TIMES IT WILL ALSO LURCH FORWARD, ONE TIME IT WAS SO HARD I THOUGHT I HAD BEEN REAR ENDED. ONCE IN MOTION THE CLUTCH SLIPS CAUSING SLOW ACCELERATION AND SHAKING (SOMETIME VIOLENT). ON HILLS, EVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE CLUTCH WILL SLIP CAUSING THE CAR TO SLOW AND HAVE TROUBLE CLIMBING. I AM ON MY 3RD SET OF CLUTCHES, AND LAST AS NOW THE TRANSMISSION IS OUT OF WARRANTY, PARTS ARE UNAVAILABLE, AND THE COST WILL BE MORE THAN THE CAR IS WORTH DUE TO THE EXTREME DEPRECIATION DUE TO THE KNOWN TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. IT HAS HAD THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) PROGRAMMING UPDATED EIGHT TIMES. ON MY FIRST TWO VISITS TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, ALL THE WAY BACK IN 2013, I WAS SIMPLY MET BY THE SERVICE MANAGER AND TOLD ON VISIT ONE THE TRANSMISSION IS WORKING AS DESIGNED AND GIVEN A PAPER STATING THE BEHAVIOR OF THE TRANSMISSION AND ON VISIT TWO THAT I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE THE CAR AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO RELEARN HOW TO DRIVE FOR THIS TYPE OF TRANSMISSION. ON MY THIRD VISIT THEY REPROGRAMMED THE TCM MAKING IT WORSE AND IT WENT DOWNHILL FROM THERE. ON ONE VISIT THEY TRIED TO BLAME THE VISIT ON A FICTITIOUS OIL LEAK AND CHARGED ME TO FIX THOUGH THEY COULD NOT SHOW ME THE LEAK NOR HAD THE CAR EVER LEAKED A DROP OF OIL OR USED ANY OIL. BETWEEN THE SECOND AND THIRD CLUTCH REPLACEMENT THE CAR DROVE SO TERRIBLY I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT, LET ALONE ALLOW MY WIFE AND CHILDREN TO RIDE IN IT. EVEN NOW I CANNOT PULL ONTO A ROAD WITHOUT HAVING A 100 YARDS OF SPACE BETWEEN TRAFFIC. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE 2013 AND CONTINUES TODAY (2019). WHEN I FIRST STARTED CONTACTING FORD THE CAR ONLY HAD ABOUT 16,000 MILES ON IT, IT HAD OVER 50,000 BEFORE THEY DID THE FIRST "REPAIR".
1. MY 2012 FORD FOCUS IS STALLING OUT AND REVVING UP AT HIGH RPMS THEN STALLING OUT FOR THE LAST 4 MONTHS. 2. THIS IS THE FOURTH OCCURRENCE FOR THE SAME ISSUE IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS. 3 TIMES IN THE LAST THREE WEEKS. 3. THE FIRST TWO TIMES, FORD COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM AND RELATED TO DRIVING AT HIGH RPMS OR SPINNING ON GRAVEL WHICH NEVER OCCURRED. I ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD REV AT HIGH RPMS BUT NOT GO ANYWHERE THEN STALL, NOT ON A GRAVEL ROAD BUT A MAJOR HIGHWAY GOING 55-60 MPH. TWICE THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. THE OTHER TIMES I COULD DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AT 30MPH BUT IT WOULD CONTINUOUSLY STALL OUT. THE THIRD TIME THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER WHICH DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE FOURTH TIME OCCURRED AND MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR A OVER A WEEK AND THEY STILL CANNOT FIGURE WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. MY VEHICLE HAS 41,000 MILES AND STILL COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN. FORD IS REFUSING TO BUY THE VEHICLE BACK UNDER STATE LEMON LAWS AND NOT GIVING ME AN OFFER FOR DIMINISHED VALUE FOR THE HIT I AM GOING TO TAKE ON THE TRADE IN ONCE I HOPEFULLY GET THE VEHICLE BACK OPERATIONAL. *TR
THIS VEHICLE SHUDDERS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. FORD HAS SAID THAT THIS IS A COMPUTER PROGRAMMING ISSUE. THEY HAVE REPROGRAMMED THE CAR, BUT THERE STILL HAS NOT BEEN ANY FIX. THE CAR CONTINUES TO SHUDDER UPON ACCELERATION. I PURCHASED A BASIC FORD FOCUS IN 02/2012, THE CAR HAS NO ABILITY TO TURN OFF THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. THIS CAUSED ME TO BECOME STUCK IN ABOUT 2 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW AND SUBSEQUENTLY CAUSED ME TO HAVE MY REAR BUMPER DAMAGED WHEN I WAS PULLED OUT BY A GOOD SAMARITAN. I THINK THAT THIS A SEVER SAFETY ISSUE. I THINK FORD SHOULD HAVE TO PROVIDE THE ABILITY TO TURN OFF THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. I COULD DISABLE IT BY REMOVING THE ABS FUSES, BUT THE I LOSE MY ABS SYSTEM. FOR A CAR THAT COST $17,300 I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO NOT DRIVE MY CAR EVERY TIME I GET 2-3 INCHES OF SNOW. CONDITIONED WORSENED AND IT WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP IN NOVEMBER 2014. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS WITHIN "LIMITS" AND WAS REPROGRAMMED. A FEW MONTHS LATER, I WAS AT A RED LIGHT AND WENT TO ACCELERATE. TRANMISSION SHUTTERED AND CAR DID NOT RESPOND, I WAS REAR ENDED CAUSING 2,000 IN DAMAGE. TRANSMISSION CONTINUES TO SHUTTER AND HESITATE. CAUSES CAR TO LURCH FORWARD OR BACKWARDS FROM A STOP, I TOOK BACK TO DEALERSHIP PURCHSED FROM. I WAS TOLD TO COMPLAIN TO FORD AND MOST LIKELY WOULD ONLY BE REPROGRAMMED AGAIN. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED. CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IF IT SHUTTERS OR MIS SHIFTS AT HIGHWAY SPEED, COULD RESULT IN SERIOIUS INCIDENT. HELP PLEASE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY DOWNSHIFTED AS IT VIBRATED ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE DID REGAIN SPEED AS THE CONTACT COASTED ALONG THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000.
SINCE ACQUIRING THE VEHICLE NEW, I HAVE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN SEVERAL TIMES WITH TRANSMISSION COMPLAINTS. EACH TIME I WAS TOLD "THAT IS HOW THE TRANSMISSION IS SUPPOSED TO WORK" OR "YOUR TRANSMISSION IS OFF BECAUSE YOU LET SOMEONE ELSE DRIVE THE CAR AND IT HAS TO READJUST" OR "YOU MUST HAVE MADE A QUICK ACCELERATION". THE TRANSMISSION OFTEN LOSES POWER WHEN SHIFTING AND GRINDS AFTER SWITCHING GEARS. I FEEL AS THOUGH FORD KNEW THERE WERE PROBLEMS BUT TRIED TO EASE MY WORRIES BY OFFERING AN EXTENDED POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, WHICH DOES NOTHING TO FIX THE ISSUES THAT I AM HAVING. THE DATE BELOW IS THE FIRST TIME OF MANY THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED.
