TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, AND RESUMED DRIVING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED WHEN THE ENGINE BECAME HOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE JOHNSON CITY FORD DEALER IN TENNESSEE WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FRICTION ELEMENT B STUCK ON, AND THE CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT BEARING AND CLUTCH LEVERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT NOTHING ELSE COULD BE DONE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
MY VEHICLE HAS HAD NUMEROUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, GOING INTO REVERSE WHILE DRIVING, SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING, ETC. RECENTLY, THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY WENT OUT AND REVERTED TO MANUAL STEERING. TODAY, WHILE DRIVING IT FOR A WHILE, I NOTICED A BURNING SMELL AND PULLED OVER. UNDER THE HOOD, THE FUSE BOX HAD CAUGHT FIRE, BUT WAS BLOWN OUT BY THE WIND WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD. 20,500 MILES.

CREST FORD (26333 VAN DYKE AVE, CENTER LINE, MI 48015, 1(888) 614-2160) HAD TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
THE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED ON ACCELERATION. THIS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES. THE CAR WOULD SHUDDER AND JERK AND IT WOULD LOSE POWER.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,003.

HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR JUST OVER A YEAR. HAD PERFORMED WELL UNTIL ABOUT 20,000 MILES. I DO A LOT OF DRIVING FERRYING CHILDREN TO AND FROM SCHOOL, TO SPORTING EVENTS, GETTING MYSELF TO AND FROM WORK. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO HESITATE AND IT SEEMED LIKE THERE WAS A TIMING ISSUE WITH THE SHIFTING MECHANISM. I OFTEN HAD TO MASH DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR TO GET IT TO ADVANCE. IT IS VERY TRICKY IN TRAFFIC ESP. ON THE INTERSTATE. WE ARE OBLIGED TO USE I-10, THE BUSIEST HIGHWAY IN AMERICA, AND TO GO ACROSS THE I-10 MISSISSIPPI RIVER BRIDGE WHERE SUCH HESITATION AND LACK OF CONTROL OF SPEED COULD PROVOKE A FATAL ACCIDENT. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE MANAGER IMPLIED THAT I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE IT CORRECTLY GIVEN THAT IT IS NOT TRULY AN "AUTOMATIC" TRANSMISSION. MIND YOU IT IS NOT MARKETED AN ANYTHING BUT AN AUTOMATIC. THEY PERFORMED SOME KIND OF COMPUTER ADJUSTMENT. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO MANIFEST ITSELF HOWEVER ESPECIALLY AFTER THE CAR HAS WARMED UP. TOOK IT BACK IN AND THE SERVICE GUY WAS NOT VERY HELPFUL, STILL IMPLYING THAT I JUST NEEDED TO ADJUST MY METHOD OF DRIVING. AM NOW WAITING ON A NEW SET OF CLUTCHES THAT WILL "REPAIR" THE PROBLEM BUT NOT GET RID OF THE "SHUTTERING". I HAVE NOT BEEN GIVEN A LOANER CAR IN THE INTERIM AND CONTINUE TO SUBJECT MY CHILDREN TO THESE UNSAFE CONDITIONS. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW IN THIS TRANSMISSION AND FORD NEEDS TO OWN UP TO IT AND DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR CUSTOMERS BEFORE THERE IS A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND FATALITIES.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated while accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle hesitated to respond, started jerking, and the transmission was slipping. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact continued to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission clutch and the transmission sensor system had failed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred several times while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer seven more times. The dealer replaced the transmission clutch and the transmission sensor system; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who provided the same diagnostic result and informed the contact that he would be responsible for the cost of repair as the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000.

I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN JANUARY. IN MARCH, THE TRUNK POPPED OPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IT HAS CONTINUED TO DO SO SINCE. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AT 5 TIMES. THEY HAVE DONE 3 REPAIRS BUT THE ISSUE CONTINUES. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN AT SPEEDS HIGHER THAN 35 MPH WHEN DRIVING FOR MORE THAN 35 MINUTES. I JUST PICKED THE VEHICLE UP FROM THE DEALER ON 1/17/17. ON 1/18/17, THE DASHBOARD INDICTED THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WAS OPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. ALL OF THESE OCCURRENCES WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY OR BACKROADS WITH LITTLE TO NO STOPPING. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER LANE, SHUT OFF, AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART, BUT THE FAILURE WAS PERSISTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MORRISTOWN FORD (1112 W MORRIS BLVD, MORRISTOWN TN, 37813) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEALS IN THE CLUTCH FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000.
SINCE DAY ONE THIS CAR'S TRANSMISSION HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY. I SHOULD HAVE JUST BROUGHT IT RIGHT BACK TO THE DEALER THAT DAY. IT HAS BEEN BACK 4 TIMES FOR TRANSMISSIONS ISSUES: SHUTTERING AT TAKE OFF, ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN WITHOUT YOUR FOOT ON THE GAS, KEEPS CHANGING GEARS WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE ON A HIGHWAY, LURCHES FORWARD WHEN MOVING SLOWLY (PULLING INTO A GAS STATION), RPMS GO UP WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF OF THE GAS AND DO NOT DROP BACK DOWN AGAIN UNTIL YOU ARE AT A COMPLETE STOP. THE FRONT BRAKES ARE COMPLETELY WORN. I SEE THESE COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET OVER AND OVER AGAIN. TODAY WE WERE DRIVING THE CAR ON A HIGHWAY AND IT JUST STOPPED ACCELERATING. HAD TO PULL OVER VERY QUICKLY TO GET OVER TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY. MOTOR WAS STILL RUNNING WITH AN ENGINE FAULT MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED. FORD'S ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE DOESN'T EVEN COVER GETTING YOUR CAR OFF OF A TOLL ROAD AND LIVING IN NJ THEY ARE HARD TO AVOID. THE DEALER SAYS THAT THAT IS THE WAY THE CAR DRIVES. THEY WRITE UP THE PAPER WORK VERY VAGUE AND NEVER PUT THE CORRECT DESCRIPTION FOR THE ISSUES. THE CAR GOES IN AND OUT OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT - PROGRAMMING UPDATE. THERE ARE 479 COMPLAINTS FOR THIS CAR ON JUST THIS SITE FOR MOSTLY THE SAME ISSUE. THE OTHER 2 CARS I OWN HAVE 0 AND 35 COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE - BIG DIFFERENCE. MY LAST FORD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FOCUS. WHILE AT A STOP SIGN AND DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, THE GEAR SHIFTER WOULD SHIFT INTO ANOTHER GEAR INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER THREE TIMES, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE CAR HAS A PROBLEM TAKING OFF AND SEEMS TO NOT WANT TO SHIFT. IT NOW WILL NOT DRIVE AND I HAVE IT AT THE DEALERSHIP. PAID OVER $1000 AND STILL NOT FIXED. SAID IT WAS THE TCM. NOW THEY WANT ANOTHER $800 (SAYING THEY ARE GIVING ME A DISCOUNT) TO CHANGE THE CLUTCH FORK AND HOPEFULLY THAT WILL WORK. I'VE HAD PROBLEMS SINCE I GOT IT IN 2016. CALLED AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *TR
I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR 1 MONTH AGO AND WHEN IT IS AT A STOP AND YOU HIT THE ACCELERATOR, IT SHUDDERS BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND AND BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD. IT IS GETTING WORSE THE LONGER THE PROBLEM GOES ON. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO PARKWAY FORD IN WINSTON SALEM, NC AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT THE PART HAS BEEN ORDERED AND COULD TAKE 3+ MONTHS BEFORE IT WILL COME IN AND MY CAR CAN BE FIXED. IN THE MEANTIME, I AM DRIVING A CAR THAT ACTS LIKE IT'S GOING TO STALL OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. HAVING TO WAIT POSSIBLY 3 MONTHS FOR THE WARRANTY REPAIRS TO BE COMPLETED IS UNACCEPTABLE.
WHILE TURNING AT A LIGHT, MY STEERING WENT OUT AND CAUSED ME TO VEER INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC IN THE OPPOSING LANE. IT NOW TAKES GREAT EFFORT AND MUSCLE TO MAKE AND TURNS IN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN THE SHOP NUMEROUS TIMES DUE TO A FAULTY TRANSMISSION. NOW WHEN I TURN ON THE VEHICLE, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAYS THAT THERE IS AN URGENT TRANSMISSION FAULT, THEN IT WILL FLASH THAT THERE IS AN URGENT STEERING ASSIST FAULT. WHILE RUNNING A VEHICLE HEALTH REPORT, THE VEHICLE STATES THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS AT A "REDUCED POWER STATE" WHICH CAUSES IT TO HESITATE, NOT CHANGE GEARS, AND NOT BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY - ALL OF WHICH FORD SAYS ARE "CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS TRANSMISSION." ALSO, THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT WORK AT ALL IN SPORT MODE AND HAS WENT INTO REVERSE OR PARK GRINDING TO A SCREECHING HALT WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. LUCKILY, I DID NOT CRASH WHEN THE STEERING SUDDENLY WENT OUT. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN A LEMON LAW DISPUTE, THEREFORE, FORD WILL NOT FURTHER DIAGNOSE MY VEHICLE.

THE TRANSMISSION ON THE FOCUS IS INEFFECTIVE AND, QUITE FRANKLY, DANGEROUS. DELAYED STARTS AND FAILURES TO ACCELERATE ARE THE NORM. FORD REFUSES TO FIX THIS KNOWN PROBLEM AND THIS MODEL REALLY SHOULD BE RECALLED BEFORE INJURIES HAPPEN.
YESTERDAY I STOPPED IN A PARKING LOT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY STEERING SEEMED TO GO OUT AS IF MY ENGINE HAD STALLED (DIDN'T). IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION UNTIL TODAY WHEN I ENTERED A ROUNDABOUT WHEN THE STEERING STARTED TO LOSE THE POWER FEATURE IF ONLY FOR A FEW MOMENTS. I CONSULTED A FORD DEALER AND SAW NO RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM. I AM HAVING THE CAR CHECKED ON 3/14/16 FOR MY TRANSMISSION SHUDDER AND WILL ATTEMPT TO GET THIS LOOKED AT THEN. IT IS TROUBLING TO KNOW THAT THIS MAY HAPPEN AT HIGH SPEED. IN THE ROUNDABOUT I SEEMED TO HAVE A MANUAL STEERING FEATURE, BUT AS I STATED THE ROUNDABOUT SPEED WAS ABOUT 15 MPH.

CAR JERKS, HESITATES FROM STOPPED POSITION. CLUTCH REPLACED AT 10,000 MILES. AT 15,000 MILES CAR WAS BROUGHT BACK INTO THE DEAL. COMPUTER ADJUSTMENTS MADE ON THE CLUTCH AND PUT WITHIN RANGE. CAR HAS BEEN BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 MORE TIMES. THE LAST ON MARCH 10 2016. CAR STARTED TO JERK AND HESITATE THE VERY NEXT DAY. I NEED MY CAR FOR WORK AND THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE TRANS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. I HAVE HAD A FORD SINCE 1982. MY 2 BROTHERS WORK FOR FORD FOR OVER 30 YEARS. I AM REALLY CONSIDERING MOVING ON FROM FORD WITH MY NEXT VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED FIELD SERVICE ACTION NUMBER: 14M02 (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE EXTENDED WARRANTY REPAIR) AND THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000.
HEARD NOISE IN STEERING AND TIRES TOOK CAR TO BE CHECKED OUT WAS NOTHING WRONG THAT IS HOW IT SOUNDS AND DRIVES. THIS WAS 2 MONTHS AFTER GETTING THE CAR. IN MARCH 2016 TURNING A CURVE CAR STEERING GOT HARD AND LOCKED UP HIT CURVE BUSTED AXLLE AND STEERING COMPONENT. REPLACED AXLE THOUGHT THAT WAS ALL. THEN HAD CAR TAKEN TO FORD I WAS THEN INFORMED OF $3000.00 IN DAMAGES AND LABOR TO FIX IT. I DID NOT PROCEED TO GETTING FIXED . THE SERVICE MANAGER PROCEEDED TO THROW THE KEYS AT ME AND GOT PISSED BECAUSE I WOULDN'T GET CAR FIXED RIGHT THEN.I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE ISSUES ON THE INTERNET LOOKING INTO THE CAR PARTS AND ANY ISSUES WITH THE CAR. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION.
THE TRANSMISSION IS CONSTANTLY SLIPPING AND MAKING THE CAR SHUTTER AND JERK WHEN ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY AT TIMES OR WILL JERK FORWARD SUDDENLY. WHEN IN DRIVE THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL BACK SLIGHTLY IF ON A SMALL SLOPE OR HILL. IT IS NOT SAFE. I WILL HAVE THIS VEHICLE FOR TWO YEARS THIS MONTH AND IT WILL ALSO BE THE 5TH TIME I'VE HAD TO TAKE IT IN. THE LAST TIME THEY REPLACED MY WHOLE CLUTCH AND HERE I AM 6 MONTHS LATER HAVING TO TAKE IT IN TO THE SHOP AGAIN. THEY KEEP SAYING THAT IT'S "NORMAL". I HONESTY SEE NOTHING NORMAL OR SAFE ABOUT THIS VEHICLE.
MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND CURRENTLY HAS 29,000 MILES ON IT. THE AIR BAG HOUSING WAS LOOSED AND HAS PLAY ON IT, WHEN REPORTED TO A FORD DEALER IN MERCED CA, I WAS TOLD THEIR WAS NOTHING WRONG. THE OTHER ISSUE IS THE TRANSMISSION, IT SLIPS. I RECENTLY RECIEVED NOTICES IN THE MAIL FROM 3RD PARTY LAWYERS STATING THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE FOCUS, AND "SHUTTERING" MAY ALSO APPEAR. THE LOWER ARM, ROTOR HOUSING WAS RECENTLY REPLACED BECAUSE OF THE BEARINGS FAILING DUE TO "FREEZING UP." FORD REPRESENTATIVES ARE DOWN PLAYING THE SHUTTERING AND SAYING IT IS DUE TO A PROGRAM ISSUE, AND "WHEN" IT OCCURS, TO BRING IT IN.
THE TRUNK WILL POP OPEN WHILE DRIVING (IN MOTION). IT HAPPENED COUPLE TIMES ON MANY DIFFERENT SITUATIONS AND EVEN IN THE HIGHWAY. LAST TIME I WAS AT AN AVENUE AND IT RANDOMLY OPENED AND I HAD TO URGENTLY PARK. I HAVE RECORDED A VIDEO THAT SHOWS THE EVENT. I HAVE ALSO SENT MY CAR TO FORD OVER 4 TIMES TO REPAIR MY TRANSMISSION AS MY CAR WAS SHUDDERING AND SHAKING ON TAKE OFFS

I WAS VERY LUCKY ONCE AGAIN TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK THE CAR TO NEWARK FORD AGAIN ON 4/18/16 AND THEY SAID THEY HAD TO UPGRADE THE SOFTWARE. WE BOUGHT A 2014 FOCUS ON MARCH 27, 2015 AND DROVE THE FOCUS WITHOUT PROBLEMS UNTIL JANUARY 2016. ON FEBRUARY 22, 2016, THE ENGINE OIL WARNING WAS FLASHING. ALMOST ALL THE OIL WAS DEPLETED. IT HAD BEEN LESS THAN 5,000 MILES SINCE THE LAST OIL CHANGE, SO IT WAS STRANGE. WE TOOK OUR CAR INTO KAYSER FORD THE NEXT DAY. THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT NOT ENOUGH OIL WAS FILLED PREVIOUSLY. THEY THEN FILLED OIL TO THE MAX LEVEL. ON MARCH 10, WE CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AFTER 500 MILES SINCE THE LAST CHANGE. THE OIL LEVEL WAS LOW. WE WENT BACK TO KAYSER, AND THEY FOUND THAT THE OIL LEVEL VARIED. THEY SUSPECTED AN OIL BURNING PROBLEM. WE THEN MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH AN ENGINE SPECIALIST AND HAD 2 QUARTS OF OIL PUT IN. ON MARCH 15, WE VISITED KAYSER AGAIN AND HAD THE ENGINE SPECIALIST CHECK IT. THEY AGAIN FELT THAT NOT ENOUGH OIL WAS FILLED THE LAST TIME, AND WE SHOULD BRING IT BACK AFTER ANOTHER 500 MILES. THE LAST FULL OIL CHANGE WAS DONE BY KAYSER ON FEBRUARY 23. WE MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT ON MARCH 24, AND WE THEN WENT ON A 400 MILE TRIP. AFTER WE ARRIVED AND CHECKED THE OIL ON MARCH 20, THE OIL WAS MUCH LOWER THAN THE MINIMUM LEVEL. SINCE IT WAS SUNDAY AND WE DID NOT WANT TO RISK AN ACCIDENT, WE ADDED FORD MOTORCRAFT 5W20 OIL. ON MARCH 24, WE WENT BACK TO KAYSER AND THE TECHNICIAN SAID THAT WE HAD TO COME BACK AGAIN LATER BECAUSE WE ADDED OIL SINCE THE LAST SERVICE. WE SHOWED EVIDENCE THROUGH PHOTOS, BUT HE REFUSED TO DO A DETAILED DIAGNOSIS. HE SAID THAT THEY HAD TO REPORT THE EXACT AMOUNT OF OIL CONSUMPTION LOST IN ORDER TO DO MORE. WE HAD TO VISIT FAMILY LIVING ABOUT 170 MILES AWAY, BUT WE DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THAT FAR. WE ASKED KAYSER FORD TO PROVIDE US A RENTAL CAR, BUT THEY WOULDN'T. WE MADE IT TO OUR DESTINATION, BUT WE HAD A LOW AMOUNT OF OIL THE NEXT DAY. WE THEN TOOK IT TO A NEARBY FORD DEALERSHIP FOR A FILL UP.

THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES ALONG WITH THE PEDAL AND THE CAR KEEPS BREAKING DOWN. COMPLAINT HAS BEEN FILED WITH FORD AND THEY REFUSE ACCEPT ANY LIABILITY.
