TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED AND HESITATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AND THE TRANSMISSION RANDOMLY SHIFTED GEARS. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD SOMETIMES ERRONEOUSLY DOWNSHIFT AND/OR UPSHIFT AND SWITCH INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PUGMIRE FORD (352 N. TENNESSEE ST, CARTERSVILLE, GA) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY AND THE DUAL CLUTCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,800.
THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN, WHILE COMING TO A STOP. THE MESSAGE IN THE WINDOW READS, PUT THE CAR IN PARK IN RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON FOUR OCCASIONS. MOST RECENTLY THREE WEEKS AFTER SERVICING FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. ON THIS MOST RECENT OCCASION, SUNDAY, MARCH 31ST., I STOPPED TO PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE TO PARK AND BEGIN TO MOVE THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. I WAS IN FRONT OF MY HOME PARKING.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle jerked abnormally. The contact stated that the vehicle jerked more violently while accelerating. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the purge valve failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the failure persisted and the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the clutch actuator needed to be replaced. On another occasion, the contact was unable to start the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an unauthorized dealer and the contact was informed that the clutch assembly, transmission control module, and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The contact was referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 67,500.
MY MOTHER IS A SENIOR CITIZEN. PEACOCK FORD (MAITLAND FL) PERFORMED EXTENSIVE TRANSMISSION WORK REPLACING TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) & CLUTCHES SHORTLY BEFORE WE PURCHASED IN FEB 2019. THEY DID NOT DISCLOSE THIS TO US. MAY 2019, FORD HAD TO REPLACE THE TCM AGAIN. JULY 2019, FORD HAD TO REPLACE THE CLUTCHES AGAIN. GIVEN THAT MY MOTHER IS A SENIOR CITIZEN, IF THE TRANSMISSION GOES OUT WHILE SHE'S DRIVING, SHE MAY PANIC AND CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS SITUATION IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

The contact stated that he received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V735000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) advising that a second notice would be sent once the remedy parts were available. The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle to the dealer for another repair, he inquired whether the dealer could complete the recall repair as well. The dealer informed the contact that the fuel tank needed to be replaced; however, the dealer could not complete the recall repair because parts were not yet available. However, in the work order that the dealer provided to the contact, the dealer marked the recall repair as complete. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact, who is an independent mechanic, diagnosed that the PCV valve and fuel tank needed to be replaced. The contact associated the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V735000 (Fuel System, System) that was marked as complete. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would follow up with the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 61,760.
MORE THAN 3 MONTHS AGO I RECEIVED INITIAL NOTIFICATION OF THE FOLLOWING RECALL BY MAIL: NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 18V735 RECALL DATE: OCTOBER 22, 2018 MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER: 18S32. I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A FOLLOW UP WITH A REMEDY FOR THIS ISSUE, AND I FEEL LIKE I'VE WAITED LONG ENOUGH. ESPECIALLY BEING THAT THIS IS AN ENGINE VEHICLE, I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY VEHICLE, ALTHOUGH I HAVE TO IN ORDER TO GET BACK AND FORTH FROM WORK. NOTHING SPECIFIC HAS HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE YET, I AM SIMPLY JUST UNHAPPY THAT THERE IS STILL NO FIX FOR THIS ISSUE, WHICH I'VE BEEN TOLD I AM WITHIN MY RIGHTS TO DO. THANK YOU.
I WAS NOT TOLD ABOUT THE KNOWN DEFECT AT THE TIME OF SALE. SHORTLY AFTER DRIVING THE CAR AFTER PURCHASE, I CALLED IN TO HAVE IT SERVICED. THE CAR HAS TROUBLE ACCELERATING MOST TIMES GOING UP HILL BUT ALSO ON FLAT. I WAS TOLD THEN THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND WILL BE AN GOING PROBLEM. WHEN ASKED WHY I WASN'T TOLD PRIOR TO BUYING I WAS TOLD BY THE HEAD OF SERVICE THAT THIS IS BUSINESS. I'VE TRIED TO GET IT FIXED THREE TIMES, EACH TIME HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL . I HAVE ANOTHER SERVICE APPOINTMENT DEC 4. I HAVE CHILDREN AND WORRY ABOUT THEIR SAFETY. MY CAR HAS ALSO STALLED THREE TIMES WHEN THE CAR WASN'T ON E. I WAS PARKED EACH TIME IT STALLED. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN DRIVING IT FEELS LIKE IT'S GOING TO STALL.
I PURCHASE A 2016 FORD FOCUS TODAY AND THERE'S ONE OPEN RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred increasingly. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer several times; however, the dealer diagnosed that no issues were found and informed the contact that the vehicle was operating as designed. The contact stated that the vehicle had failed to shift into the proper gear and had become undrivable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
2016 FORD FOCUS TITAN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: THE TRANSMISSION HAS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LOSE ACCELERATION AND HAS SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL. AT 1 POINT THE DISPLAY/MONITOR TURNED WHITE WITH A SMALL CAR IN THE CENTER. THE CAR WAS MOVING FORWARD AND ON CITY STREETS WHEN IT SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL. THIS HAS HAPPEN AT LEAST 4 TIMES SINCE OWNERSHIP.
AT ABOUT 20,000 MILES, THE DPS6 TRANSMISSION STARTED SHUDDERING AND VIBRATING DURING ACCELERATION. IT GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, AND AT 21,988 MILES, ON 6/12/2019, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FROM WHOM I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR NEW ON 6/20/2016. A TECHNICIAN PERFORMED LABOR CODE #160109A. HE THEN NOTED, "FOUND SOME CLUTCH SHUDDER STILL PRESENT BUT FEWER THAN 250 RPM, OK PER FORD." AFTER I COMPLAINED, THE SERVICE MANAGER SENT ME A LETTER OFFERING ME A FREE OIL CHANGE (WHICH I DECLINED). TODAY, 7/17/2019, AT 21,988 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION IS STILL SHUDDERING. I AM WAITING TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS ON THE FORD FOCUS/FIESTA TRANSMISSION SETTLEMENT. MY CLAIM ID NO. ON THIS SETTLEMENT IS 10612086.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO OURISMAN FORD & LINCOLN (6129 RICHMOND HWY, ALEXANDRIA, VA 22303, (703) 660-9000) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ACCESSORY PROTOCOL INTERFACE MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
THE TRANSMISSION OF THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD A CONSISTENT PROBLEM OF BEING ERRATIC AND REQUIRES CONSTANT VERY PARTICULAR PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL TO AVOID SHUDDERING AND SHAKING WHEN ACCELERATING WHICH WHEN IT HAPPENS MAKES THE CAR VERY DIFFICULT TO SAFELY CONTROL IN ANY TYPE OF TRAFFIC SINCE OTHER DRIVERS DO NOT ANTICIPATE THE LURCHING AND STAGGERING FROM THE CAR UNLESS THEY HAPPEN TO NOTE THE FORD EMBLEM AND ARE AWARE OF THE SAFETY PROBLEMS FACING ALL FOCUS DRIVERS OF THE AFFECTED MODELS. I HAVE FOUND THE ISSUES MANAGEABLE BY ASSERTIVE MANIPULATION OF THE GAS PEDAL DURING ACCELERATION AND GENTLE AND GRADUAL APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES WHEN POSSIBLE TO OFFSET THE DANGEROUSLY INCONSISTENT ACCELERATION AND THE TENDENCY FOR CAR TO MISSHIFT WHEN SLOWING DOWN. I'M ABSOLUTELY APPALLED TO DISCOVER THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED SITUATION BUT IS TYPICAL OF MOST IF NOT ALL 2012-2016 IT IS INCONCEIVABLE TO ME THAT FORD WAS AWARE OF THIS LIFE THREATENING MALFUNCTION IN THEIR PRODUCTS AND INSTEAD OF SOLVING OR ADDRESSING IT SOLD CARS TO UNSUSPECTING PUBLIC ON THE BASIS OF THE THEIR GOOD NAME AND REPUTATION AS A QUALITY AMERICAN MANUFACTURER. I ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE CAR SERVICED AT HERTICH FORD OF MILFORD DELAWARE FOR A SEPARATE ISSUE INVOLVING FUEL SYSTEM SENSORS WHICH CAUSED THE FUEL GAGE TO BE INACCURATE AND CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO STALL SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO A VACUUM CREATED IN THE GAS TANK, WHICH WAS FIXED BY THE RECALL WORK BUT AGAIN CAUSED A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR MYSELF AND PASSENGERS. APPARENTLY THERE IS ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM ERROR WHICH I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO SCHEDULE AS YET. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN AND ANYONE READING THIS DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BUY CHEVROLET OR TOYOTA TWO BRANDS I CAN HIGHLY RECOMMEND. THANKS

The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving from a complete stop and had increased in frequency and intensity. IVE HAD SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE I HAVE MY KEYS IN MY PURSE NEVER OPENED THE HATCH IN THE BACK WENT INSIDE A STORE CAME BACK OUT TO MY HATCHBACK DOOR OPEN THIS IS VERY CONCERNING TO ME I DO HAVE MY SONS BASEBALL EQUIPMENT AND MY SPEAKERS IN WHICH ONE GOT STOLEN I NEED TO KNOW IF ANYTHING IS GOING TO BE DONE SOON SO I KNOW WHAT MY NEXT STEPS ARE GOING TO BE.

THE CONTACT PULLED OVER, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AFTER 5 MINUTES AND RESUMED NORMAL DRIVING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MOORESVILLE FORD (151 E PLAZA DR, MOORESVILLE, NC 28115) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 73,000.

THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED AGAIN. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. TOOK FOCUS TO DEALER AND DEALER SAID HE CAN'T FIX DUE TO PARTS BEING ON BACK ORDER FOR A MONTH. HOWEVER, THIS IS A SAFETY RISK " AND ENGINE STALL WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING OR WITHOUT ABILITY TO RESTART CAN INCREASE RISK OF CRASH". STUCK CANISTER PURGE VALVE. DEPENDING ON WHERE THIS COULD HAPPEN, THIS COULD RESULT IN DEATH. THIS NEEDS FIXED IMMEDIATELY. RECALL ON FORD FOCUS 18V735 CHAPMAN FORD OF HORSHAM, 1100 EASTON RD, HORSHAM, PA 19044. WE HAVE PAPERWORK.
THERE ARE CLASS ACTION SUITS OVER THE TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH RECALLS FOR THE FOCUS. FORD DEALERS CHAPMAN FORD, HORSHAM AND HOFFMAN FORD, HARRISBURG, PA, ARE REFUSING TO REPAIR THE FORD FOCUS 2016 CLUTCH THAT IS SLIPPING (ABOUT 48,000 MILES) WITH THEIR REASON BEING THAT THE CAR HAS A BRANDED TITLE. THE CAR WAS IN A MINOR ACCIDENT THAT ONLY AFFECTED THE SIDE OPPOSITE THE TRANSMISSION, AND ANY DEALER CAN CLEARLY SEE THAT ALL THE TRANSMISSION AND SURROUNDING AREAS ARE NOT DAMAGED AND ARE ORIGINAL FORD PARTS. IT WAS REALLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF BODY WORK ON THE OPPOSING SIDE. IF A CLUTCH 'BLOWS UP', THE DRIVER CAN HAVE SERIOUS LEG DAMAGE, AND ALSO THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND CRASH POSSIBILITY. SINCE THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT AFFECTED AT ALL IN THE BRANDED TITLE, FORD SHOULD REPAIR IT FOR FREE. THE TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH ISSUES ARE ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND SINCE FORD HAS QUIT MAKING THE FOCUS, IT IS EVIDENT THAT FORD KNOWS THEY HAVE CREATED THE CLUTCH ISSUE. THIS AND THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE RECALL ARE VERY DANGEROUS.YOU WOULD NOT WANT YOUR DAUGHTER DRIVING THIS CAR, AND IT NEEDS REPAIRED THIS WEEK. FORD NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF THE SITUATION THEY KNOWINGLY CREATED. THE BRANDED TITLE HAS NOTHING TO DO AT ALL WITH THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. EVEN THE DEALERS HAVE ADMITTED THAT. CHAPMAN FORD, HORSHAM HAS DIAGNOSED A SLIPPING CLUTCH. I HAVE PAPERWORK.
CANISTER PURGE VALVE, ENGINE STALL RECALL. I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE SINCE I RECIEVED THE CAR FEBUARY 2017. THE ISSUES WAS WHEN I WOULD STEP ON THE GAS TO DRIVE, IT WOULD STALL SLOWLY THE SPEED FROM ITS ORIGINAL SPEED AND CAN FEEL A PULL AND PUSH FROM THE CAR TRYING TO SPEED UP EVEN WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL; THE CAR MOVES SLOW, ITS LIKE ITS TRYING TO GO UP A HILL WITH EFFORT BUT TIRELESS WHEN ITS NOT EVEN GOING UP A HILL. ITS MAKES A LOUD CLANK NOISE WHEN IT TRIES TO SPEED UP. IT DOESNT FEEL SMOOTH WHEN DRIVING. I HAD CALL THE MANUFACTURER FORD SINCE JANUARY 2019. THEY ASK FOR MY DATE OF BIRTH TO SUPPOSELY LOOK FOR ME IN THE SYSTEM AND MAKE ME WAIT FOR 12 MINUTES, THEN THEY HANG UP THE CALL. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT FORD JANUARY 2019, THEY CANCELED IT THE DAY BEFORE. I RECALLED FORD JULY 2019, THEY HANG UP ON ME AGAIN.
THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH STICKS AND IF NOT REPAIRED CAR WILL STOP RUNNING; CAR DEALER STATED IT WILL BE OVER $2200 TO BE REMEDIED. THIS HAPPENS ON THE ROADWAY WHILE DRIVING: CAR HESITATED BEFORE GOING INTO GEAR. EVEN WHEN I'M MOTION IT WILL BACK DOWN AND SLOW UP. THE IGNITION OVER YEARS AND NEEDS TO COOL DOWN BEFORE THE CAR RESTARTS.

The driver waited for several minutes before restarting the vehicle and driving back to the residence. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The driver took the vehicle to a local dealer for an oil change was informed there was an open recall on the vehicle under NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V735000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The local dealer reprogrammed the Powertrain Control Module to repair the vehicle however, the failure persisted. The contact took the vehicle to another local dealer; Sam Pack's Five Star Ford Lewisville (1144 N Stemmons Fwy, Lewisville, TX 75067, (469) 491-1050) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the PCV valve need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
