TURNED THE VEHICLE ON AND IMMEDIATELY IT SURGED. THOUGHT IT WAS ME BUT THEN IT CONTINUED TO HAPPEN. SEEMS TO ONLY HAPPEN WHEN FOOT IS ON BRAKE AND/OR WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL ALL THE WAY. JUST STARTED HAPPENING THIS MONTH. TOOK THE MECHANIC TO CHECK, BUT HE COULD NO REPRODUCE ISSUE. I AM NOT SURPRISED THOUGH, AS IT SEEMS TO BE INTERMITTENT. PROBLEM BEST DESCRIBED AS VEHICLE SEEMS TO HAVE SOMEONE ELSE PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. HAS NOT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT YET, BUT CERTAINLY SEEMS AS IF IT IS INEVITABLE. *KB
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS ON JULY 19 AND 20, 2011, WHILE MANEUVERING THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS TO PARK IN A PARKING STRUCTURE AND TO PARALLEL PARK IN AN URBAN STREET SETTING, THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE "REVVED UP" WITHOUT MY PRESSING DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO "SURGE" OR "LUNGE"--THIS OCCURRED BOTH IN DRIVE AND IN REVERSE. IN ALL CASES, A QUICK APPLICATION OF THE BRAKE CAUSED THE "SURGING" TO END; FORTUNATELY, NO NEARBY VEHICLES OR PEDESTRIANS WERE STRUCK. THESE INCIDENTS OCCURRED UNDER VERY HOT WEATHER CONDITIONS (TEMPERATURE AROUND 100 DEGREES), WITH THE VEHICLE'S AIR CONDITIONING RUNNING "FULL BLAST." THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE TRIGGERED BY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK OR EXIT A PARKING SPACE. AFTER EXPERIENCING THIS "SURGING/LUNGING" ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, I WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THIS PROBLEM IN AN ISOLATED CORNER OF A SHOPPING MALL PARKING LOT, BY DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED AND THEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AS IF TO MAKE A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN. WE HAVE OWNED OUR FREESTYLE FOR NEARLY FOUR YEARS (PURCHASED USED) AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. WE HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM SINCE JULY 20--ALTHOUGH THE WEATHER HAS BEEN COOLER SINCE THAT DATE, AND THE AIR CONDITIONING HAS BEEN USED FAR LESS, IF AT ALL. THIS PROBLEM SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE A MATTER WE UNDERSTAND THE NHTSA HAS BEEN INVESTIGATING RECENTLY WITH FREESTYLES OF THIS VINTAGE. I HAD READ AN ARTICLE ON THE INVESTIGATION SEVERAL WEEKS AGO, AND DID NOT THINK ANYTHING MORE ABOUT IT--UNTIL MY EXPERIENCES ON JULY 19-20. ON INQUIRING ABOUT THIS MATTER WITH OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INDICATED IT WAS UNAWARE OF SUCH A PROBLEM, AND SUGGESTED THAT WE HAVE THE REFRIGERANT LEVEL CHECKED, AS A LOW REFRIGERANT LEVEL MIGHT CAUSE THE A/C SYSTEM TO DEMAND MORE POWER FROM THE ENGINE. AN APPT. IS SCHEDULED.
I HAVE A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IT WILL SURGE FORWARD OR BACKWARD SUDDENLY WHEN I STOPPED AND SOMETIMES WILL SPUTTER AND ENGINE LITE WILL COME ON AND WILL HAVE TO BE SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED TO GET TO RUN RIGHT IT IS GETTING WORSE AND MORE OFTEN. *TR
WHEN GO TO BACK IT LUNGES BACK AND IF YOU ARE SITTING IN TRAFFIC IT WILL LUNGES FORWARD AND THEN STALL OUT OR DIE AND THE RPMS GO UP REAL HIGH. *KB
THE CAR SURGES IN DRIVE OR REVERSE WITHOUT APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR. IT USUALLY HAPPENS AFTER THE ENGINE HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. IT SEEMS WORSE WHEN THE ENGINE IS "COLD", BUT IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED AFTER THE CAR HAS REACHED OPERATING TEMPERATURE. THE ONLY SOLUTION HAS BEEN TO APPLY THE BREAK AND ATTEMPT TO CONTROL THE SURGE WHEN IT HAPPENS. *TT
STARTED CAR, PUT IT IN REVERSE, CAR LUNGED. NOT THE FIRST TIME IT HAS DONE THIS. EACH TIME THE LUNGE, EITHER IN REVERSE OR DRIVE, HAPPENS WITH NO WARNING WHATSOEVER. IT JUST ABOUT ALWAYS STARTS WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED OR MOVED INTO GEAR AFTER IDLING. *KB
VEHICLE ACCELERATED WHILE IN LINE AT THE DRIVE THROUGH AND WAS LURCHING FORWARD. THEN ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD THEY INFORMED I NEEDED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. *TT
MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE LTD/ HAS EXPERIENCED IDLE SURGES SEVERAL TIMES IN PAST 2 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. THE MOST RECENT OCCURANCE ON 7-15-2011. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO PARK, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY SURGED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR AFTER SHIFTING THE SELECTED GEAR WITH PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THERE WAS CURRENTLY AN OPEN INVESTIGATION ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE11018. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE LUNGE FORWARD ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT AND WOULD OCCUR AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE ROMS WOULD INCREASE SPORADICALLY BEFORE LOSING POWER AND LUNGING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE A FAILURE WAS LOCATED WITHIN THE THROTTLE BODY. THERE WAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) THAT COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
CAR LUNGES WHEN STOPPED AND/OR STALLS WHILE IN MOTION (UP TO 30MPH). APPEARS TO OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY IN HOT AND HUMID WEATHER. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND DEALERSHIP STATED THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. RESEARCHED ONLINE AND NUMEROUS OF OTHER FREESTYLE (AND MERCURY) OWNERS LISTED THIS ISSUE. WHY ISN'T THIS PART RECALLED? BECAUSE NO SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATHS HAVE YET OCCURRED?
WHILE SITTING IN A PARKING LOT ON A HOT DAY (A/C RUNNING), MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE SUDDENLY LUNGED FORWARD. WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED, IT STOPPED THE ENGINE. A MESSAGE APPEARED READING "ENGINE IN FAIL-SAFE MODE." APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS LATER, THIS SAME CONDITION WAS REPEATED WITH THE SAME RESULT. IN BETWEEN THESE EVENTS THE CAR SEEMS TO PERFORM AS EXPECTED. AS OF NOW WE HAVE TAKEN NO ACTION HOWEVER NEXT WEDNESDAY THE DEALER CAN LOOK AT THE VEHICLE AND HOPEFULLY HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS ON THE REPAIRS. I HAD THE LOCAL AUTOZONE TECHNICIAN RUN A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND TWO CODES CAME UP HE SAID WERE UNIQUE TO FORD SO A FORD SERVICE TECHNICIAN WOULD BE REQUIRED TO INTERPRET. HE LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THESE CODES READ "TAC" AND SOMETHING REFERRING TO THE TORQUE CONTROL MODULE. CODES MAY HAVE BEEN "P061B" AND A P1202" (?). *KB
THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN LURCHING AT LOW SPEEDS & AT IDLE. IT IS OCCURRING WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE AND DRIVE. MY WIFE AND I HAVE TO MAKE SURE WE ARE PUSHING DOWN ON THE BRAKE HARD TO PREVENT THE LURCH FROM HITTING ANYTHING. IT IS ALSO LURCHING WHILE IDLING AT RED LIGHTS AS WELL. THIS PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO AND SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE AND WORSE. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND IT APPEARS THAT IT IS NOT UNCOMMON TO FREESTYLE OWNERS. MOST FORUMS INDICATE THAT IT IS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE & THAT IT CAN EITHER BE CLEANED OR REPAIRED. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE REGARDING THIS ISSUE & I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY FOR MY FAMILY. IF THE CAR WERE TO LURCH INTO AN INTERSECTION AT A RED LIGHT OR POSSIBLE REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE. ALSO, THE POSSIBILITY OF HITTING A PEDESTRIAN IN A PARKING LOT AND CRASHING INTO OUR GARAGE. *TR
2005 FORD FREESTYLE - WHEN FIRST PUTTING MY CAR INTO GEAR, EITHER FORWARD OR REVERSE, THE CAR LUNGES OR "REVS" UP AS IF IT IS GOING TO TAKE OFF. PLACING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE OR HAVING THE AIR CONDITIONER OFF OR ON LOW SEEMS TO HELP SOMEWHAT. IN AT LEAST ONE INCIDENT, THE CAR HAS GONE INTO AN "ENGINE SAFE MODE" AND HAS STOPPED COMPLETELY. LUCKILY, I WAS IN A NOT SO CROWDED PARKING LOT AT THE TIME. WE RECENTLY HAD TO HAVE THE AIR CONDITIONER REPLACED IN ITS ENTIRETY WHICH HAS MADE THE PROBLEM WORSE AND MORE FREQUENT. *TT
THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS SEPTEMBER 2010. I WAS IN A PARKING LOT WITH IN NASHVILLE TN. IT WAS HOT AND AC WAS RUNNING. THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN REVERSE, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF BRAKE AND THE CAR ACCELERATED BACKWARD WITHOUT PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. ON THE DATE I REPORTED ABOVE SAME SITUATION, IN A PARKING LOT, TEMP OUTSIDE WAS OVER 90 AND AC WAS RUNNING. THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN DRIVE AND WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE IT ACCELERATED FORWARD. MY WIFE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS SIMILAR BUT SHE WAS ONLY AWARE THAT THE AC WAS RUNNING WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED WITH PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. WE WERE FORTUNATE EACH TIME THERE WAS ENOUGH SPACE TO PRESS THE BRAKE AND STOP THE VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A SMALL EXPLOSION. IMMEDIATELY, GASOLINE FUEL FUMES ENTERED INTO THE VEHICLE CABIN. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE FUEL CLIP HAD FRACTURED. THE ENTIRE FUEL LINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,336 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,400.
THE VEHICLE WILL SLIGHTLY ACCELARATE (OR LUNGE) WHEN IDLING AND FOOT IS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN VEHICLE IS FIRST STARTED AND/OR AT VERY LOW SPEEDS. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE VEHICLE IS DRIVE OR REVERSE. *TT
I OWN A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE SEL. I AM EXPERIENCING ENGINE SURGES (SUDDEN ACCELERATION) ON A DAILY BASIS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A FORD DEALER WHERE THEY DIDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS AND BLAMED IT ON ENGINE LOAD FROM THE AC SYSTEMS. WHILE I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ACCIDENTS YET I HAVE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BEEN FORCED TO STAND ON THE BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING OTHER VEHICLES AND IN ONE CASE A PEDESTRIAN. FORD WON'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY SAY THAT THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND THERE ARE NOT RECALLS. *KB
I OWN A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE SEL AWD. THE CAR LUNGES OUT OF PARK. HAPPENED ABOUT THREE TIMES IN THE LAST 30~ 60 DAYS THE CAR COMES TO A FAILSAFE ENGINE MODE. WHEN BREAK IS APPLIED THE MOVEMENT STOPS, BUT AT TIMES IT TAKES VERY FIRM PRESSURE ON BREAK PEDAL FOR MOVEMENT TO STOP. THIS HAS OCCURRED WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON AND OFF, WITH STEERING WHEEL TURNED OR STRAIGHT. IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHEN STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. THIS CAN BE VERY SCARY WHEN PARKING IN A PARKING GARAGE OR PULL INTO A DRIVEWAY, AS YOU DON'T KNOW IF VEHICLE WILL STOP BEFORE IT MAKES CONTACT WITH A WALL OR A HOUSE. SOME PARKING GARAGES DON'T HAVE CONCRETE WALLS TO HELP STOP THE VEHICLE. *TR
DURING HOTTER WEATHER IF THE CAR IDLES AT A STOP LIGHT OR IN TRAFFIC, IT STARTS SURGING UNCONTROLLABLY UNLESS THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED VERY FIRMLY. USUALLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE FAIL SAFE MODE ENGAGE. THE ENGINE SPEED SURGES UP AND DOWN AND TRIES TO MOVE THE CAR. IF THE BRAKE IS NOT DEPRESSED VERY FIRMLY CAR HAS HIT CURB AND TRIED TO CLIMB ONTO THE SIDEWALK. *TR
MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE PERIODICALLY LUNGES WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, USUALLY WHEN I SLOW DOWN TO STOP OR PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM A FEW TIMES OVER THE PAST COUPLE YEARS, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY. I AM UNSURE IF RUNNING MY AIRCONDITIONING HAS CAUSED THE INCREASED LUNGING, BUT IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED FORD YET, BUT I'VE NOTICED MANY REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM ONLINE. I REALLY THINK THAT FORD SHOULD PUT OUT A NOTICE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM THAT COULD LEAD TO A CRASH OR EVEN A DEATH. *TT
2005 FORD FREESTYLE LUNGING THE VEHICLE LUNGES SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY WITHOUT HAVING FOOT APPLIED TO GAS PEDAL. THIS HAPPENS IN FORWARD AND REVERSE, AT LOW SPEEDS. THE RPM INDICATOR CLIMBS HIGH WHEN THIS IS OCCURRING. THE ONLY SOLUTION SEEMS TO BE KEEPING FOOT APPLIED TO BRAKE AT ALL TIMES WHEN TRAVELING AT IDLE SPEEDS. THIS LUNGING EFFECT HAS RECENTLY APPEARED IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SURGE FORWARD, AND WHILE TURNING TO AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A CURB AND FIRE HYDRANT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED, BUT NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 95,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE CAR WOULD SURGE BACKWARDS WHEN PUT IN REVERSE SOMETIMES. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR WOULD HAVE TROUBLES GOING UP HILLS WHERE THE CAR WOULD NOT MAINTAIN SPEED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED DOWN TO COMPENSATE FOR SPEED. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. HAVE 149K MILES. *TR
MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE IS SURGING AFTER I PUT IT IN REVERSE AS TO BACK UP IN THE PARKING LOT. IT LUNGES VERY FAST AND FORCIBLY SO THAT IF I DO NOT HAVE A STRONG HOLD ON THE BRAKE IT WILL MOVE. IT ALSO HAPPENS IN FORWARD POSITION IF I AM NOT MOVING OR MOVING VERY SLOWLY SAY IN A PARKING LOT OR DRIVE THRU. THE AIR CONDITIONING AND OR TURNING SEEMS TO MAKE IT WORSE. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERYTIME BUT HAPPENED VERY FORCIBLY THE OTHER DAY. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT IT WILL LUNGE OUT OF CONTROL AND HIT SOMETHING OR SOMEBODY. I HAVE CHILDREN IN MY CAR OFTEN INCLUDING MY INFANT. IT SEEMS TO ME TO BE SOME SORT OF SAFETY DEFECT WHICH NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING OR DRIVING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AT 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD AND BACKWARD AND THE ENGINE WOULD STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
MY 2005 LIMITED EDITION FREESTYLE HAS A FEW ISSUES THAT I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT. MY THROTTLE IS HAVING MAJOR ISSUES. THE CAR WILL SURGE FORWARD WITH NO WARNING WHEN I AM AT A COMPLETE STOP. IT ALSO HAS CAUSED IT TO HAVE A LOT OF DIFFICULTLY ACCELERATING WHEN IN MOTION AND STARTING THE IGNITION. I'M AFRAID THAT IT WILL SURGE FORWARD AND CAUSE ME TO HIT SOMETHING OR SOMEONE. MY HUSBAND HAS TRIED CLEANING OUT THE THROTTLE WITH NO SUCCESS. WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED LESS THAN A YEAR AGO WITH NO WARRANTY AND THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS . WE ARE ALSO HAVING A PROBLEM WITH WATER IN THE CAR. WE'VE HAD PUDDLES ON THE BACK PASSENGER FLOOR AND FRONT DRIVER SIDE. I DO NOT HAVE A MOON/SUNROOF. WATER HAS ACTUALLY POOLED OUT FROM THE CAR ONTO THE GROUND WHEN I'VE OPENED THE DOOR. THE DOORS WILL BE DRY AND WE CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW THE WATER IS GETTING IN THE CAR. I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MOLD AS BOTH ME AND MY DAUGHTER ARE ALLERGIC TO IT. THE VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING A SURGE IN THE ENGINE PERFORMANCE AT A LOW SPEED AND ALSO WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE, NEUTRAL, REVERSE & PARK. THE SURGE OF THE ENGINE CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LUNGE FORWARD OR REARWARD (DEPENDING ON WHAT GEAR IS SELECTED) AND WHEN PUT IN NEUTRAL OR PARK A SHARP INCREASE IN ENGINE RPM'S IS EXPERIENCED TO THE EXTENT THAT THE ENGINE STALLS. I HAVE A FORD FREESTYLE 2005 THAT HAS AN A/C ISSUE. AS I HAVE DONE SOME ONLINE RESEARCH THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS. IT DOESN'T STAY COOL WHEN THE CAR IDLES. NEITHER DOES IT COOL THE CAR DOWN IN THE 90-100 DEGREE WEATHER. TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID IT WOULD COST $1100 TO REPLACE THE COMPRESSOR. HE SAID THE PROBLEM IS THAT YOU HAVE TO GET THE COMPRESSOR FROM FORD AND THEY HAVE A HUGE BACK LOG OF ORDERS AND THEY WEREN'T SURE WHEN HE COULD GET IT. I THINK THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE HAS HAD INCREASING PROBLEMS WITH UNEXPECTED LUNGING. THIS HAS OCCURED NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN PARKED OR STOPPED. USUALLY I CAN PRESS THE BRAKES AND CONTROL THE MOVEMENT. RECENTLY, HOWEVER, I WAS IN A LONG LINE OF CARS LEAVING A MULTISTORIED PARKING GARAGAE ON JULY 3RD OF THIS YEAR. DRIVETRAIN LIGHT CAME ON ONCE WHEN POWER WAS DECREASED AND THEN WENT AWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT PARKED AN OFF FOR AN HOUR. FORD DEALERSHIP HAS DETERMINED THE THROTTLEBODY IS CRACKED. OFFERED TO FIX FOR $900. NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN BECAUSE OF THE STEEP EXPENSE.

SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN VEHICLE: AFTER DRIVING 200 MILES I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE WHEN I HAD A SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN THE VEHICLE. I HAD MY FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE WITH NO CONTACT ON THE ACCELERATOR. THE TURN WAS A 180 DEGREE TURN INTO THE PARKING SPACE. (90 INTO DRIVEWAY THEN CONTINUOUS 90 DEGREE TURN INTO SPACE.) HAD TO INCREASE ANGLE OF TURN TO AVOID HITTING PARKED CAR. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ACCELERATION THE VEHICLE STALLED. THERE WAS NO DIFFICULTY RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. THE RADIO WAS OFF, AIR CONDITIONING ON (APPROXIMATELY 90 DEGREES OUTSIDE, SUNNY HIGH HUMIDITY.) THREE ADULT PASSENGERS IN VEHICLE AT TIME. SPEED APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES AN HOUR. FIRST TIME I NOTICED THIS IN THE VEHICLE. THREE HOURS LATER AS I WAS DECELERATING WHILE APPROACHING A LIGHT I ALSO HAD A SUDDEN SURGE LASTED MAYBE TWO SECONDS. HAD FOOT ON BRAKE AT THE TIME. WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE SLOWING DESPITE SURGE IN ENGINE AND ATTEMPTS BY CAR TO INCREASE SPEED. CAR DID NOT STALL THIS TIME. SPEED ABOUT 25 MPH. HAVE DRIVEN ABOUT 300 MILES SINCE AND HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE WITH CVT TRANSMISSION. *KB

I CAN ALSO GET THIS TO HAPPEN AT A STOP LIGHT OR SIGN BY JUST TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT WITH A/C ON. I BELIEVE THE ISSUE IS WITH THE A/C SYSTEM AND POWER STEERING BECAUSE I DON'T RECALL HAVING ANY ISSUES WHEN THE A/C IS OFF. ANOTHER ISSUE WITH THE CAR IS THAT IT CAN STALL AFTER IDLING IN PARK AND THEN GOES INTO FAILSAFE MODE. IN THIS MODE, THE CAR ACCELERATES VERY SLOWLY WITH A MAXIMUM SPEED OF 30 MPH. I DON'T RECALL ANY FAILSAFE OCCURRENCES DURING THE WINTER. THIS ONLY SEEMS TO OCCUR AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN IDLING IN PARK WITH THE A/C ON. TO RESOLVE THE FAILSAFE ISSUE THE MULTIPLE TIMES IT HAS HAPPENED, POWER OFF THEN ON THE CAR. IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED TWICE IN A ROW. I NO LONGER IDLE THE CAR WITH A/C RUNNING. MY WIFE WILL OCCASIONALLY DRIVE MY CAR; SHE KNOWS ABOUT ALL OF THE ISSUES AND HAS HAD THEM OCCUR. MY SON (18) IS NOT ALLOWED TO DRIVE MY CAR. ANOTHER ISSUE IS WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE MIDDLE ROW SEAT. THE SEAT WILL NOT GO DOWN UNLESS EXTREME FORCE IS USED. ONCE THE SEAT GOES DOWN IT WILL WORK NORMALLY THE NEXT FEW TIMES BEFORE NEEDING EXTREME FORCE AGAIN. WE HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO A FORD MECHANIC MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THE ABOVE ISSUES AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEMS. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN NOVEMBER '04. I HAVE ALREADY SPENT $6,000.00 ON THE TRANSMISSION AND THEN IT LUNGES WHILE BACKING UP AND I HAVE TO TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. IT IS VERY SCARY TO DRIVE THIS CAR WHEN IT DOES THIS.
