MY COMPLAINT IS ABOUT A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE THAT HAS SOME ACCELERATION PROBLEMS WHEN IT IDLE AND AT SLOW SPEED FORWARD AND REVERSE. IT WILL ACCELERATE IT SELF SPECIALLY WHEN USING THE AC AND ALSO WHEN THE FRONT WHEELS ARE TURNED. IT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND FORD SERVICE CENTER CLAIMS THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *TR
RIDING DOWN ROAD AND CAR STARTED LUNGING AND TRYING TO GO ON ITS OWN. THEN TRANSAXLE LIGHT CAME ON. CAR WOULD THEN ONLY GO 40MPH BUT IT WOULD REV UP AND TAC AT 5 OR MORE. TOOK IT TO AMERICUS SUNBELT FORD, THEY SAID IT NEEDED TRANSAXLE FLUID AND PUT SOME IN. LIGHT WENT OFF AND IT WORKED. VERY DANGEROUS TO BE IN ROAD AND CAR WON'T GO FAST ENOUGH TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. THE A/C QUIT RIGHT AFTER THIS. HAD A/C FIXED AND IT WAS OK. NEXT THE THROTTLE BODY IN JUNE 2012 MESSED UP AND I HAD IT FIXED AT SUNBELT FORD AND THEY CHARGED ME ALMOST $900. RAN FOR A WHILE THEN FORD HAD A RECALL ON THROTTLE BODY AND I TOOK IT IN AND THEY CLEANED IT BUT WOULD NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR WHAT I PAID TO GET FIXED. MAY 2014 A/C COMPRESSOR WENT OUT AGAIN GOT IT FIXED AND ON JULY 13, 2014 IN ATLANTA GA ON INTERSTATE 85 AROUND NORCROSS WITH THE TRAFFIC FLYING 75 80 MPH BY ME JERKING ALONG AT 40MPH AND THE TRANSAXLE LIGHT CAME ON. IT WAS EXTREMELY SCARY SINCE I HAD MY CHILD AND HUSBAND WITH ME WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND WE WERE NOT AT AN EXIT TO GET OFF BUT WHEN WE LIMPED TO ONE I TURNED INTO A PARKING LOT AND IT QUIT GOING UP THE SMALL HILL. IT WOULD NOT GO FORWARD OR BACKWARD THEREFORE WE WERE IN HARMS WAY AGAIN. WITH THE HELP OF STRANGERS WE PUSHED IT TO SAFETY. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED 169 MILES BACK TO MY HOME AND THE MECHANIC SAYS THAT IT IS FULL OF TRANSMISSION FLUID BUT IT WILL NOT GO. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. FORD SHOULD HAVE TO TAKE THESE CARS OFF THE ROAD AND PAY ME FOR ALL THE REPAIRS AND A CAR THAT WON'T GO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AFTER SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SPORADICALLY STALL IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
2005 FORD FREESTYLE SURGES SINCE ABOUT 20,000 MILES. NOW HAS 100,000 AND SURGING AROUND 5 FEET, MOSTLY IN AND OUT OF PARKING OR IN STOP/GO TRAFFIC. MY CAR LUNGED APRROX. 5 FEET BACKWARDS AND ALMOST HIT LADYAS I WAS PULLING OUT OF PARKING SPACE AT GROCERY STORE; SHE SCREAMED, JUMPED, AND YELLED AT ME (UNDERSTANDABLE). I WOULD HAVE HIT HER IF MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE BRAKE. NO DEALER COULD FIND THE PROBLEM FROM 2006 UNTIL NOW, 2010. FORD HAS OFFERED NO HELP OR RECALL ON THIS "THROTTLE BODY" PROBLEM. NOR DID THEY OFFER ANY HELP ON THE POOR DESIGN OF THE DOUBLE BACK SEAT THAT GETS STUCK IN THE UP POSITION AND WILL NOT LIE DOWN. THEY "NEGOTIATED" A $400 COST TO FIX DOWN FROM $1,000, EVEN THOUGH FORD HAS A PAPER ON THIS PROBLEM. AT 99,000 MILES, NOW THE DEALER REPORTS I NEED NEW THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY; TRANSMISSION PAN IS WET; A/C COMPRESSOR LEAKING AND NEEDS REPLACING. I DROVE MY 240 DL VOLVO FOR 10 YRS/340,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD ALL OF MY SERVICES AND OIL CHANGES. THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON THIS CAR IS FALLING APART LIKE THIS. I WAS A COURT REPORTER FOR 25 YEARS. HOW CAN FORD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING PARTS AND GRATUITOUSLY DOING PROPER SERVICE TO CORRECT THEIR POOR DESIGN, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT INVOLVES PRODUCTS LIABILITY PROBLEMS FOR FORD? WILL THEY BECOME ANOTHER TOYOTA BEFORE TAKING RESPONSIBILITY? I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ONE PIECE OF PAPER WARNING ME ABOUT THE THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM, WHICH I VIEW AS QUITE SERIOUS; AND I KNOW THE LEGAL OUTCOME IF SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT FORD HAS A WEAK LEGAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE OR PERHAPS A LEGAL LIABILITY DEPT. THAT MAY DESIRE TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEMS BEFORE THEY HAVE TO DEFEND THEM IN COURT. SOMETHING DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME HERE. VERY DISAPPOINTED AND WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER FORD. *TR
2005 FORD FREESTYLE WITH 64,879 MILES HAS STARTED TO SURGE IN AND OUT OF PARK AND WHEN STOPPING FOR TRAFFIC. IT ALSO SURGES FROM PARK WHEN IN REVERSE AND I AM GOING TO BACK OUT OF MY GARAGE. I HAVE HAD THIS FREESTYLE SINCE IT WAS NEW AND HAVE MAINTAINED ALL REGULAR MAINTENANCE AS REQUIRED. I ALSO CONTINUE TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE MIDDLE PASSENGER SEAT WHERE IT WILL NOT WORK AND HAVE HAD IT REPAIRED AT LEAST 4 TIMES NOW. FORD HAS NOT CHARGED ME FOR THESE REPAIRS BUT IT IS VERY INCONVENIENT TO HAVE THIS ONGOING PROBLEM WITH MY SEAT. MY MAIN CONCERN IS WITH THIS SUDDEN SURGING ESPECIALLY IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT PROBLEMS THAT TOYOTA HAS HAD WITH ITS VEHICLES. I WOULD WELCOME YOUR INVESTIGATORS TO MY HOME TO EXPERIENCE FIRST-HAND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO SURGE UNTIL PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

SHE ALSO STATED THAT THE ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE MESSAGE ILLUMINATED AND IN ORDER FOR THE WARNING LIGHT TO SHUT OFF THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE, AS A RESULT THE ENGINE MOUNT AND THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.UPDATED 08/01/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM IS WORSE DURING HOT WEATHER, AND AFTER IDLING. THE VEHICE LOST POWER DUE TO THE ENGINE GOING INTO FAIL SAFE MODE. THE AC COMPRESSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED A MONTH PROR. UPDATED 08/02/11
SITTING AT STOP LIGHT, ENGINE SURGES AND LURCHES INTO "FAIL SAFE" MODE. CAR SLIPS OUT OF GEAR INTO NEUTRAL, AND LIMPS TO A STOP. HAS OCCURED MULTIPLE TIMES, ESPECIALLY IN THE HEAT OF SUMMER. TAKEN CAR INTO MULTIPLE SHOPS, HAVE NEVER RECEIVED CONSISTENT ANSWER. ANSWERS RANGE FROM TRANSMISSION FAILURE TO A BAD COMPUTER, OR A SENSOR.

CAR LUNGES IN FORWARD OR REVERSE. USUALLY IN HOT WEATHER. IDLES LOW AND STALLED A FEW TIME. IF IT DOES NOT STALL IT IS SLUGGISH AND NO POWER. PLEASE LETS HAVE SOME SERVICE AFTER THE SALE. *TR
WHILE ON OUT OF STATE VACATION, OUR 2005 FORD FREESTYLE WAS IDLING IN PARK WITH THE AC RUNNING. WHEN THE CAR WAS PLACED IN REVERSE, IT ACCELERATED QUICKLY (UNINTENDED) WITH NO INPUT AT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. ONCE I STOPPED THE CAR, THE ENGINE DIED. WHEN IT WAS RESTARTED, IT IDLED ROUGHLY FOR A MINUTE AND THEN RAN OK. THIS TYPE OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION HAS RANDOMLY OCCURRED 6 TIMES TOTAL WITHIN A PERIOD OF ONE WEEK. THE LAST TIME THIS OCCURRED, THE ENGINE DIED ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED. WHEN IT WAS RESTARTED, THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. WE DROVE THE CAR TO AN AUTOPARTS STORE WHERE THE CODES WERE READ. THE CODES WERE P2106 & P061B. WHEN THE ENGINE RESTARTED, THE WRENCH LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DID NOT ILLUMINATE. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER AND DESCRIBED THE EVENTS IN DETAIL. THE FORD DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT NO CODES WERE DETECTED. THEY SAID WE NEEDED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. THEY CAME TO THIS CONCLUSION BECAUSE OF A TECHNICAL SERVICES BULLETIN ISSUED BY FORD (TSB 06-21-1). THE CAR HAS 79,857 MILES SO THE DEALER SAID IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE THROTTLE BODY. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN ABOUT THE SAFETY ISSUE OF THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION BUT THEIR ONLY COMMENT WAS THAT IS WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. WE HAVE TALKED TO ANOTHER PARTY WHO HAS HAD THE SAME OCCURANCE WITH THEIR FREESTYLE. THEIR THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BUT HAS ONCE AGAIN STARTED THE UNATTENDED ACCELERATION. I HAVE ALSO SEEN SEVERAL POSTS ON INTERNET FORUMS FROM PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT APPEARS THAT THE REPLACEMENT THROTTLE BODIES HAVE THE SAME DEFECT AND THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX. THIS PROBLEM COULD EASILY RESULT IN A CRASH OR A PEDESTRIAN BEING STRUCK. OUR CAR HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY IS STILL INTACT ON THE CAR. THE CAR IS ALSO VERY SLOW TO DECELERATE. *TR

THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES DURING WARM WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS NOT PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER FILED REPORT 1312391401 AND STATED THE FAILURE WAS UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 145,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WOULD SUDDENLY GO INTO SAFE MODE WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL AND LOSE POWER WHEN HE WAS DRIVING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED BETWEEN SPEEDS OF 55 MPH AND 65 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE DEALER ADDED TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN HOWEVER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 64,000.
LOUD NOISES COMING FROM CAR, ENGINE, TRANSMISSION DAYS PRIOR TO DRIVING TO WORK. DRIVING TO WORK CAR TURNS OFF AND COMES TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY INTERSECTION. CAN START CAR BUT CAN'T MOVE IT. CAR DOES NOT MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARD. HAVING CAR LOOKED AT BY DEALER. READING MESSAGE BOARDS AND FINDING OUT THAT THERE ARE MANY, NO WAIT LOTS OF OTHER PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. PEOPLE BEING TOLD TO REPLACE TRANSMISSIONS ONLY TO HAVE THEM REPEATEDLY BREAK MULTIPLE TIMES. MAKE: FORD MODEL: FREESTYLE TRANSMISSION: CVT. *TR
MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE WITH 45,000 MILES KEPT SURGING FORWARD. IT HAPPENED TWICE IN 2 MONTHS WHEN I WAS ALONE. THIS PAST JULY I PICKED MY GRANDCHILDREN UP AT CAMP SURE ENOUGH IT DID IT AGAIN ALMOST STRIKING A CHILD IN THE PARKING LOT. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND $800.00 DOLLARS LATER FOUND OUT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. NEEDS TO BE A RECALL!!! THIS IS NO DIFFERENT THAN THE TOYOTA SITUATION. *TR

THE VEHICLE WOULD THEN STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,824 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,100. THIS WOULD ALSO HAPPEN WHEN STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN OR LIGHT. ALTHOUGH LUNGING FORWARD. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE PART NEEDED TO MAKE THE REPAIR WAS NOT READILY AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER FOR SIX WEEKS DUE TO THE FREQUENCY OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE WAS 61,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED UPON INITIAL START UP AND WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE THROTTLE BODY GASKET WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. THERE WERE 2,300 THROTTLE BODY REPAIR KITS ON A MASSIVE BACK ORDER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 79,000.

SHE NOTICED THE FAILURE DURING PERIODS OF EXTREMELY HOT WEATHER AND THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP BUT THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. I HAVE A 2005 LE FREESTYLE (FRONT WHEEL DRIVE) THAT WE PURCHASED NEW. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SUDDEN SURGING/LURCHING OVER THE PAST YEAR OR SO, BUT IT WAS SO OCCASIONAL AND SUBTLE THAT I THOUGHT I WAS IMAGINING IT. THEN THIS WEEK I ALMOST HIT A CAR IN THE SCHOOL CAR RIDER LINE AND IT WAS DEFINITELY NOT MY IMAGINATION. THE CAR SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD (NOT SUBTLY!) WHEN I WAS STOPPED WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. IT WAS A HOT DAY & I'D JUST TURNED ON THE AC SO MY SON WOULD BE COMFORTABLE (I USUALLY DON'T USE THE AC THAT MUCH). ALSO LAST WEEK I ALMOST HIT A CAR WHEN MY CAR SURGED WHILE I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE (AGAIN, I'D JUST TURNED ON THE AC BECAUSE I HAD OTHER PEOPLE W/ ME).BECAUSE MY INCIDENTS HAVE INCREASED THIS SUMMER DURING THE HOT WEATHER I FEELS AS THOUGH IT'S A SAFE HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED ASAP.. *TR
THE DAY I BOUGHT ME CAR THERE WAS PROBLEMS. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WAS SOAK WITH WATER ANDS THE DEALERSHIPS RESPONSE WAS TO USE THE HEATING SYSTEM TO DRY IT. THE CAR HAD A HIGH PITCH NOISE AND THE GEARS SEEMED TO BE TIGHT. IF MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE BRAKE EVEN ON AN UP HILL CLIMB THE CAR WOULD ROLL FORWARD. WHEN I ACCELERATE IT REVS VERY HIGH AND DID NOT DROP MUCH AND WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS IT PLUMMETS. AT ABOUT ODOMETER 129689 MY CAR STARTED TO SOUND LIKE A MACK TRUCK AND IT INCREASE IT NOISE LEVEL. I WAS TOLD I NEED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND IT IS A SPECIAL TRANSMISSION...ONE OF A KIND SO A USED ONE WILL RUN ABOUT 2500, A BRAND NEW ONE FROM FORD WILL COST AROUND $5K AND THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE LABOR. ALSO TO REBUILD THE ONE YOU HAVE WILL COST YOU BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER USE TRANSMISSION FROM ANOTHER FREESTYLE AND THEN COMBINE THE 2. MY ODOMETER IS AT 136701 TODAY MY CAR IS STILL RUNNING SOMEWHAT BUT ANY DAY IT WILL EXPLODE AND DIE. TRUST ME FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM(S) AND WILL NOT RECALL THE PART(S) UNLESS SOMEONE GETS HURT OR IS KILLED. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD! THEY HAVE LOST ME AS A SUPPORTER! THEY ONLY MAKE JUNK CARS OR LEMONS. I WISH I REALIZED AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE THAT IT WAS A LEMON AND TRANSMISSION WAS ALREADY BAD. THE FORD DEALERSHIP KNEW AND SOLD IT TO ME WITH A SMILE. I HAD THEM FIX ONE THING AND THEY SAID THEY WILL FIX THAT PART AND THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE? WHY WOULD THEY SELL A DAMAGE CAR? IF YOU HAVE A FREESTYLE GET RID OF IT IF YOU CAN!!!! FORD DOES NOT TAKE PRIDE IN THEIR WORKMANSHIP NOR STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. *TR
