TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED AND SURGED FORWARD WHILE DRIVING AT A LOWER SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR LOCAL MECHANIC. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE SEEMS TO HAVE ISSUES AT THE INITIAL START POSITION. IN THE "PARK" POSITION THE CAR WILL REV WITHOUT COMPRESSING THE GAS PETAL, IT THEN LUNGES FORWARD AS YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO PUT THE CAR IN EITHER FORWARD OR REVERSE. IT SHUDDERS AND SHAKES, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY AND OPERATE IS THE "SAFE" MODE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT USUALLY COMES ON. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SEEN ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS RANGING FROM APRIL OF 2010 TO JULY 2010, EACH TIME THE SYMPTOMS BECAME WORSE, AT ONE POINT WHILE WAITING AT A RED LIGHT JUST BEFORE ENTERING THE ON-RAMP TO THE HIGHWAY, IT STUTTERED, REVVED HIGH AND LUNGED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, EMBARRASSED, I CONTINUED TO PROCEED FORWARD TO THE ON-RAMP WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY CAUSING THE 4 VEHICLES BEHIND ME TO BREAK HARD, AGAIN ALMOST CAUSING ANOTHER ACCIDENT, I DROVE IT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER DID WORK ON THE VEHICLE AND THOUGHT TO HAVE SOLVED THE ISSUE. THE ISSUES STARTED TO OCCUR IN THE WINTER AND EARLY SPRING BEFORE THE USAGE OF THE A/C AND BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AS THE SUMMER MONTHS APPROACHED AND THE A/C FULL WAS IN USAGE. IT HAS BEEN A ALMOST 2 YEARS SINCE I HAVE NEEDED TO REPORT ANYTHING TO THE DEALER. THE FIX DID APPEAR TO LESSEN THE INTENSITY OF THE ISSUE, BUT DID NOT FIX IT ENTIRELY. IT HAS CONTINUED TO ACT UP, BUT IS BACK TO THE SAME INTENSITY AS THE SUMMER OF 2010. THE ENGINE SURGED 3 TIMES IN AN HOUR PERIOD LAST WEEK AND SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN TWICE. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER TO REPORT IT, THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD BE CONSIDERED A NEW ISSUE SINCE IT HAS BEEN ALMOST 2 YEARS SINCE THEY HAD WORKED ON THE CAR FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THEY MAY HAVE CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY IN 2010, WHICH REDUCED THE SURGING INTENSITY, BUT IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IS FORD WAITING FOR A MAJOR ACCIDENT, FIRE OR DEATH TO OCCUR BEFORE THIS PROBLEM IS RESOLVED OR REPLACED?! *JS
I HAVE HAD MY CAR ACCELERATE WITHOUT MY FOOT BEING ON THE PEDAL. THIS WOULD USUALLY HAPPEN AS I WOULD GET READY TO GO INTO REVERSE OR JUST PUTTING THE CAR IN GEAR TO GO FORWARD. I IMMEDIATELY BRAKE HARD TO STOP THE PROBLEM, WHICH SOLVES THE ISSUE. MY ACCELERATOR HAS ALSO HAD PROBLEMS GETTING STUCK AND I HAVE TO PULL IT FORWARD WITH MY FOOT. THIS BEGAN ABOUT A YEAR AGO, AND HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. A FEW MONTHS AGO I STARTED NOTICING THAT IT DID NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. I WOULD GO TO PULL OUT OF AN INTERSECTION AND THE CAR WOULD SLUGGISHLY MOVE FORWARD WHICH WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. AS TIME WENT ON IT SEEMED TO GET WORSE. LATELY WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE IT WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN JERK FORWARD. FINALLY, TODAY WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY I COMPLETELY LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELRATE ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING AND THE "FAIL SAFE ENGINE" SIGNAL CAME ON. I PULLED OFF TTO THE SIDE, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT WHICH SEEMED TO TEMPORARILY SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I GOT TO WHERE I WAS GOING BUT ON THE WAY HOME IT SEEMED VERY JERKY AND UNRELIABLE. I CALLED A LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS PROBABLY THE THROTTLE BODY AND TO BRING IT IN TOMORROW. IT SEEMS AS IF THIS IS AN ONGOING AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT THE FREESTYLE IS HAVING. THANK GOD I WASN'T PULLING OUT IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHEN IT DECIDED TO NOT WORK! I HAVE THREE KIDS AND CARPOOL ALL THE TIME. IF FORD DOESN'T DO SOMETHING NOW THEY WILL NOT ONLY HAVE PARTS TO REPLACE BUT LAWSUITS TO SETTLE AS WELL WHEN PEOPLE ARE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED AS A RESULT OF THEIR INACTION.
THE CAR STARTED SHOWING HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING AND MAKING A STRANGE NOISE EARLY IN 2010. THIS CONDITION GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE UNTIL ONE DAY, WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, AND I WAS FORCED TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT, THE GAS PEDAL SEEMED TO BE WORKING AGAIN. TOOK THE CAR TO JONES FORD THE NEXT DAY AND THEY TOLD ME THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD AND REPLACED IT TO THE TUNE OF $638.97. DATE OF SERVICE WAS APRIL 1, 2020. MILEAGE AT TIME OF FAILURE WAS 61,540 EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE FOR A FEW MONTHS BUT I STARTED NOTICING THE HESITATION ON ACCELERATION AGAIN. TOOK IT TO SUMMERVILLE FORD ON JULY 21, 2010. I DIDN'T WAIT FOR A COMPLETE FAILURE SINCE IT WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO LOSE POWER ON THE FREEWAY WITH A WHOLE CAR LOAD OF KIDS! JONES FORD SAID THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD AGAIN AND REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY THIS TIME. CHECKED FOR CODES AND GOT CODE #U0141. MILEAGE AT TIME OF REPLACEMENT WAS 65,207. WITHIN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS I HAVE NOTICED SIMILAR CONDITIONS TO THE LAST TWO TIMES THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED. YESTERDAY I WAS PARKING AND THE CAR SURGED FORWARD AS I LET MY FOOT OF THE BRAKE, ALMOST CAUSING ME TO HIT THE CAR IN THE SPOT IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO KEEP DRIVING IT UNTIL SOMETHING IS DONE BY FORD ABOUT THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE MOTOR MOUNT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I ALSO HAVE REPLACED THE 2/3 ROW SEAT PIVOT ONCE DURING WARRANTY BUT IT FAILED AGAIN IN 2010 AND I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO AFFORD TO REPLACE IT. THE A/C COMPRESSOR STOPPED WORKING THIS SUMMER. STILL NOT FIXED. I HAVE REPLACED MY TIRES TWICE IN SEVEN YEARS. I HAVE REPLACED BOTH SETS OF BRAKES. FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THESE COMMON FAILURES. BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT! *TR
MY LEFT REAR BRAKE HEATS UP AND SMOKES. I HAVE TAKEN RIDES OF LESS THEN 10 MILES. I WILL BE REPLACING THE BRAKE SHOES FOR THE 4TH TIME. I HAVE ABOUT 50,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I HAVE A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE PURCHASED IN 2009. MY WIFE HAS HAD THE CAR 'STALL' IN BUSY TRAFFIC 4-5 TIMES OVER THE PAST TWO MONTHS (FEB-MAR 2010). THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN WALDORF MARYLAND DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY NEEDING REPLACED. I'VE CONSULTED THE INTERNET REGARDING THIS FAILURE AND FOUND THAT HUNDREDS OF FORD FREESTYLES HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. MY CAR HAS 105K MILES ON IT. WE BOUGHT IT WITH 80K MILES ON IT. PLEASE FORCE FORD TO RECALL THIS CAR AND FIX THIS PART. IT IS UNSAFE FOR A FAMILY STYLE VEHICLE LIKE THE FREESTYLE. FORD WANTED $800 TO REPLACE THE PART. WE OWN A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. OVER THE LAST 4-5 MONTHS WE HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE INSTRUMENTATION PANEL "GOING BLACK". THIS HAS CAUSED THE VEHICLES REVERSE LIGHTS TO COME ON AND STAY ON. IT WAS HAPPENING ABOUT ONCE EVERY FEW WEEKS AND HAS INCREASED TO A WEEKLY ISSUE. WE HAVE TO UNHOOK AND REHOOK THE BATTERY TO TEMPORILY FIX THE PROBLEM EACH TIME. A MECHANIC INDICATED IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRONIC CLUSTER CONTROLLING THE INSTRUMENTATION PANEL. UPON SEARCHING MULTIPLE SITES THIS SEEMS TO BE THE MOST FREQUENT NON-RECALL ISSUE FOR THIS YEAR/MAKE/MODEL CAR. WHEN IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE INSTRUMENTATION GOES CRAZY, THE CAR BUCKS, AND THE REVERSE LIGHTS COME ON. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS A COMPONENT PROBLEM WITH THE MOTHER BOARD WHICH IS A DEFECT AND EVEN REPLACING IT WILL NOT NECESSARILY FIX THE PROBLEM IN THE LONG TERM AS THIS COULD OCCUR WITH THE NEW ELECTRONIC CLUSTER AS WELL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS AND INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATE FORWARD OR IN REVERSE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WOULD SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND WHEN RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE WOULD RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 102,000.
ON MARCH 4TH 2010 I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY SISTERS DRIVEWAY WHEN MY CAR SURGED AND CAUSED ME TO BACK INTO HER NEIGHBORS GARAGE ACROSS THE ALLEY. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS CLOSE CALLS FROM ALMOST HITTING PEDESTRIANS IN CROSS WALKS TO ALMOST HITTING THE FRONT OF STORES, OR OTHER VEHICLES WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PULL INTO OR BACK OUT OF PARKING SPOTS. THE CAR ALSO SURGES AT STOP LIGHTS. I HAVE STARTED PUTTING MY CAR IN PARK WHILE IDLING SO THAT I DON'T END UP IN AN ACCIDENT. IN MAY OF 2012 I HIT A METAL FENCE POST WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK MY CAR AT THE LOCAL RODEO. THE CAR IS DANGEROUS & I DO NOT ALLOW MY DAUGHTERS, WHO ARE BOTH OLD ENOUGH TO DRIVE, TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AT 60,000 MILES, THE OIL PUMP AND SUPPLY TUBE WERE REPLACED. THEN AT 83,000 MILES THE SIDE SHAFT GEAR BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE LACK OF LUBRICANT THE OIL PUMP RECEIVED WHEN IT WAS REPLACED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TWO FAILURES WERE NOT RELATED AND THE SHAFT GEAR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPAIRED AT HIS EXPENSE. FURTHERMORE, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND HE WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE MIGHT STALL WHILE HE WAS DRIVING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,500. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000.
OUR FREESTYLE HAS EXPERIENCED MILD BUT WORSENING UNINTENDED ACCELERATION FOR TWO YEARS NOW, BUT IT WAS ALWAYS "MILD" AND DID NOT CAUSE THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD EVEN WHEN THE DRIVER'S FOOT WAS HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THEN WE HAD A NEW PROBLEM: NO COLD AIR FROM THE AC AT IDLE. WE RESPONDED (6/11) TO A MAILED PROMOTION FROM HERTRICH FORD (EASTON MD) FOR AN AC "TUNE UP." THEY DID NOTHING BUT ADD DYE TO OUR REFRIGERANT AND "CLEAN" OUR AIR DUCTS WITH DISINFECTANT. SO WE TURNED TO THE OWNERS' FORUM, MYFORDFREESTYLE.COM, AND QUICKLY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM: A SEIZED-UP PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE. APPARENTLY FORD DEALERS REFUSE TO PERFORM THIS SIMPLE REPAIR (PART COST $40) AND WILL ONLY REPLACE THE ENTIRE AC COMPRESSOR ($800 + LABOR). SO WE ORDERED THE VALVE ONLINE AND HAD A COMPETENT LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACE THE VALVE (1-HOUR LABOR PLUS COST OF REFRIGERANT). THE AC IS "GOOD AS NEW", BUT THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IS NOW MUCH WORSE. THE INCIDENTS ALWAYS OCCUR AT VERY LOW TO NO SPEED AND WHEN MANEUVERING THE CAR (I.E. PARKING, K-TURNING, ETC.). IN ALL OF THESE SITUATIONS, BOTH THE AC AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP ARE DEMANDING/DRAWING NEAR-MAXIMUM POWER FROM AN ESSENTIALLY IDLING ENGINE, NEARLY STALLING THE ENGINE; THE ELECTRONIC ENGINE/IDLE CONTROL THEN KICKS-IN AND HUGELY "OVER-REACTS" BY REVVING THE ENGINE TO 2,000+ RPM. EVEN WITH YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AN AUTOMATIC IN DRIVE IS GOING TO SURGE QUITE FAR AT 2000+ RPM. PLEASE LOOK AT THE MYFORDFREESTYLE.COM WEBSITE: NOTE THAT ALMOST ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT UNINTENDED ACCELERATION COME DURING HOT WEATHER MONTHS AND A FEW ALSO NOTE THE PROBLEM IS MUCH WORSE WITH THE AC ON. IT TOOK US LESS THAN 30 MINUTES ON THE WEBSITE TO DIAGNOSE BOTH THE AC PROBLEM AND UNINTENDED ACCELERATION PROBLEM. PULLED OVER, SHUT THE ENGINE OFF & TOOK KEY OUT, SPEED STILL REGISTERING A SPEED OF 40 MPH. CYCLED THE CAR ON & OFF 3 TIMES & THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. IN TRANSIT TO DEALER & THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS, THEN SWEEPS THRU ALL THE WARNING LAMPS, THE REVERSE GEAR TAILLIGHTS & THE BRAKE LIGHTS LIGHT, THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LAMP LIGHTS & NO GAUGES REGISTER, INCL SPEED!! DANGEROUS!! THIS CYCLE REPEATED APPROX 3 TIMES BEFORE CHECK ENGINE CAME ON STEADY. CALLED DEALER & TOLD TO PUT ON HAZARD LIGHTS & BRING CAR IN ASAP. WAS TOLD TODAY THAT THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL MUST BE REPLACED, BUT THAT THIS IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE PROBLEM WON'T OCCUR AGAIN. WEATHER AT TIME OF INCIDENT WAS DRY, TEMPS IN UPPER 40'S. *TR
WHEN VEHICLE IS COMPLETE STOPPED WITH BRAKE APPLIED, THE VEHICLE WILL LUNGE FORWARD. THIS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES DURING MY TWO YEARS OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION WENT COMPLETELY OUT. SEVERAL TIMES I BARELY MISSED HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. LUCKILY I NEVER PULL UP REAL CLOSE. FORD IS NOW 90 DAYS OUT ON GETTING A NEW TRANSMISSION AND THE COST TO REPLACE IT IS MORE THAN THE VEHICLE IS WORTH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE SITTING AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH THE BRAKE DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT THEN APPLIED EXTREME PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,003. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND LUNGED FORWARD WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
CRACKED ENGINE MOUNT ON FORD FREESTYLE. *TR
I WAS SENT THE RECALL FOR DOOR LATCHES FREEZING AND DOORS NOT CLOSING SECURELY AND/OR DOORS OPENING. I HAD THE RECALL WORK DONE AT FORD DEALER. THE FOLLOWING WINTER WAS MILD AND DOORS WERE NOT WET IN BELOW FREEZING DAYS/NIGHTS ETC THE FOLLOWING YEARS DOORS STILL CONTINUED TO OPEN AND NOT LATCH SHUT WHEN WET AND BELOW FREEZING. FOLLOWING THIS DISCOVERY I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND THEY SAID "WE DID THE RECALL WORK AND THAT'S ALL WE ARE DOING" I TOLD THEM IT DID NOT FIX ANYTHING --THEY SAID ITS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. THIS CAR IS JUNK AT EVERY LEVEL BUT DOORS NOT CLOSING IS THEIR PROBLEM - PLEASE MAKE THEM RE-RECALL THIS ISSUE!! *TR
ON 1/25/10 WHILE DRIVING CAR BEGINS TO STUDDER AND THEN SHUTS DOWN. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO EMERGENCY LANE. UNRESPONSIVE TO THROTTLING WHEN RUNNING. EVENTUALLY RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO LIMP HOME (PROBLEM OCCURRED 2 MORE TIMES BEFORE ARRIVING HOME 10 MILES DOWN THE ROAD). TOOK TO DEALERSHIP NEXT DAY (AFTER 4 OCCURRENCES IN 3 MILES). DIAGNOSTICS RAN, BAD THROTTLE BODY BUT NONE AVAILABLE YET. SHOULD BE ABLE TO ORDER AND BE IN DEALERSHIP IN ABOUT A WEEK. RECENTLY, I NEEDED TO BRING MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND FIGURED THAT IT WAS TIME TO VACUUM, ETC., SINCE I MAINTAIN MY PROPERTY. SURE ENOUGH, THERE HAS BEEN RUSTING AND ROTTING--HIDDEN--FOR A LONG TIME. THE CARPETS WERE WETTER--AND SINCE I DRIVE WITH SHOES ON, I NEVER DETECTED THE MOISTURE THROUGHOUT THE FLOOR AREA--FROM DRIVING AREA DOWN TO THE TRUNK--MOSTLY ALONG THE DRIVER'S SIDE. IT SEEMED TO WORK UNTIL AUGUST 2010 WHEN MY CHILDREN'S SCHOOL STARTED A CARPOOL LINE FOR AFTER SCHOOL PICKUP. IT IS HOT IN MY CITY IN AUGUST, SO I SPENT PROBABLY 20 MINUTES IDLING WITH THE AC ON. WHEN I WOULD START TO LET UP ON THE BRAKE AS THE LINE BEGAN TO MOVE FORWARD, MY VEHICLE'S ENGINE WOULD REV UP AND MY CAR WOULD LURCH FORWARD WITHOUT MY FOOT EVER COMING FULLY OFF THE BRAKE. IT DID NOT APPEAR TO HAPPEN IF I TURNED THE AC OFF. TO COMPENSATE I WOULD TURN CAR OFF AND ROLL WINDOWS DOWN IF I KNEW I WOULD BE WAITING MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES, BUT WHEN THE TEMP IS 100+ OUTSIDE IT IS MISERABLE TO DO THIS. ONCE THE WEATHER COOLS OFF (BELOW 90) THE LUNGING SEEMS TO GO AWAY. THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED IN AUGUST 2011, AND AGAIN IN AUGUST 2012. THIS AUGUST IT HAS BEEN MUCH WORSE. WHEN IT RAINS WATER LEAK INSIDE THE CAR CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD AND WINDOWS OF THE CAR TO FOG REAL BAD. I HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF I - 65 BECAUSE I COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING. THE WINDSHIELD AND THE WINDOWS FOGGED SO FAST THAT I COULD NOT SEE THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPEN TO US. *TR

I BOUGHT MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE BRAND NEW AND MY CVT TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WHEN MY CAR HAD ONLY ABOUT 70,000 MILES ON IT AND I ALSO HAD MY THROTTLE BODY REPLACED AS WELL. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREE WAY WHEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING MY CAR JUST DIED OUT CAUSING ME TO PANIC AND ALMOST GETTING INTO A CAR ACCIDENT. LUCKILY THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES AND THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM CAUSING ME TO NOT FEEL VERY SECURE ABOUT THE CAR I BOUGHT. FINALLY THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM AND FIXED IT BY PUTTING ON A NEW THROTTLE BODY AND A NEW TRANSMISSION. NOW MY CAR HAS 130,000 MILES AND IT IS STARTING TO SURGE AND MAKE A HELICOPTER TYPE NOISE, AND I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAYS ITS MY THROTTLE BODY AND MY TRANSMISSION AGAIN. THE SHOP WANTS TO CHARGE ME SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FIX WHICH I CANT AFFORD AND I AM GONNA HAVE TO TRY TO TRADE IT IN BUT DEALERSHIPS DON'T WANT TO GIVE ME ANYTHING FOR IT BECAUSE OF ITS BAD HISTORY OF SUCH A PRICEY REPAIR. CVT TRANSMISSION FOR 2005 FORD FREESTYLE HAD CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AT 65,000 MILES. TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS FINE AND CHECKED AT 61,000. THE FAILURE INCLUDED PIECES OF THE TRANSMISSION PIERCING THE OUTER CASING AND DEPOSITING METAL PARTS ON THE DRIVEWAY ALONG WITH A GREAT DEAL OF FLUID. THE VEHICLE DID NOT SHOW ANY INDICATIONS (LIGHTS, SHIFTING OR ANYTHING ELSE) THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN JEOPARDY. MY WORRY WOULD BE FOR OTHERS IS THAT IF THE CORE OF THE TRANSMISSION PIERCED THE CASE IT COULD HAVE ENTERED THE PASSENGER CABIN. *TR
SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING, HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES ALREADY. HAPPENS WHEN IT'S RAINY, AFTER NOT DRIVING THE CAR FOR A DAY. CAN BE REALLY BAD IF HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY - YOU STEP ON GAS AND THERE'S NO RESPONSE (THE ENGINE IS RUNNING) - THE CAR CAN ESSENTIALLY STOP BY ITSELF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. DATE OF FIRST INCIDENT REPORTED, MILEAGE AT THE TIME - 90,000. *TR
CAR WOULD "SURGE" WHEN SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. HAD TO BREAK TO STOP. ALSO, WOULD STALL OUT WHEN SHIFTED BACK FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE. THIS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY OVER THE COURSE OF A YEAR. ULTIMATELY HAD TO HAVE ENTIRE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY REPLACED TO CORRECT PROBLEM.

I WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT, AFTER STOPPING, TO ENTER A TWO LANE STREET WITH TRAFFIC BOTH WAYS. SOMEHOW THE CVT TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO REMAIN IN HIGH GEAR. I CREPT OUT INTO TRAFFIC AT A SLOW CRAWL WITH HORNS HONKING AND TIRES SCREECHING. I WAS LUCK IT IS A SMALL TOWN AND I WASN'T HIT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AT 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. HE WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, AND THE TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED DUE TO THE UNAVAILABILITY OF THE PART. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,900. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,100. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MANY TIMES WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN GEAR, WHETHER IT'S FORWARD OR REVERSE, THE CAR SURGES. I HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN INTO ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF IT. STEPPING ON THE BRAKES HELPS BUT DOESN'T COMPLETELY STOP THE INITIAL SURGE. *TR
