TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND DECREASE IN SPEED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GAIN SPEED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE THROTTLE CONTROL TRANSMISSION LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON FAILURE. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED AND THE FAILURE CEASED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE CONTACT DROVE TO HER RESIDENCE. THE DEALER STATED THAT A DIAGNOSTIC COULD NOT BE PERFORMED UNLESS THE FAILURE WAS PRESENT. THEY ASSUMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE THROTTLE BODY OF THE ENGINE. THE FAILURE RECURRED A MONTH LATER WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE AND THEN BACK INTO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND QUICKLY STALLED. THE EMISSION SYSTEM LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE TIMES IN ONE DAY. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED, BUT THERE WAS NO FAILURE. THEY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, WHICH CONFIRMED THE THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. THROUGH RESEARCH, THE CONTACT VERIFIED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON FAILURE WITH HER MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE WAITING TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,000. UPDATED 09/14/09. *LJ UPDATED 09/14/09 UPDATED 09/16/09.*JB
ANTI LOCK BRAKE PUMP DEFECTIVE, LUCKILY DISCOVERED BEFORE SERIOUS INJURY. BACK BRAKES ALREADY REPLACED ONE TIME ON FORD 2006 FREESTYLE. NO DASHBOARD INDICATORS EVER CAME ON, ONLY REALIZED THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL DID NOT FEEL RIGHT WHILE USING BRAKES. FORD NEEDS TO CHECK THIS OUT AND ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED. WE WERE JUST LUCKY. *TR
WE INITIALLY EXPERIENCED SURGING WHILE MANEUVERING IN & OUT OF PARKING SPACES. LATER THE CAR FAILED TO ACCELERATE BEYOND 15-20 MPH WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET. FORD REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ON THE DATE ABOVE (6/16/09) AT 53,700 MILES AT A COST OF $780, WHICH SOLVED THE PROBLEM UNTIL RECENTLY. TWO WEEKS AGO (8/15/11) WE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE THE SURGING AGAIN WHILE MANEUVERING IN & OUT OF PARKING SPACES. WE NOW HAVE 90,000 MILES ON THE CAR. (FORD ALSO REPLACED AN ENGINE MOUNT WHEN THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY IN 2009 AT A COST OF $428.)
MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE FIRST STARTED TO SURGE A COUPLE OF YEARS AFTER WE GOT IT(APPROX 2009) I RESET IT (AS WAS EXPLAINED IN THE MANUAL) NO MAJOR ISSUE-I THOUGHT. IT SURGED MOSTLY WHILE THE AC WAS ON,WHEN IT WAS HOT AND SOMETIMES IN REVERSE. AFTER AWHILE I MADE ALLOWANCES FOR THIS ISSUE. MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC PERIODICALLY FOR MAINTENANCE W/ NO OTHER (NEW OR MAJOR MECHANICAL) ISSUES OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS. THIS PAST SUMMER-2012(IT HAS CONTINUED TO SURGE(WORSE THAN BEFORE)) IT ALSO STALLED A COUPLE OF TIMES. MY CAR WAS TAKEN IN AND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS CLEANED(I CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS ALL THROUGH THE SUMMER). IT IS NOW DECEMBER AND SINCE SEPTEMBER, MY CAR HAS NOW STALLED OUT 4 TIMES! THE MOST RECENT WAS THE DAY AFTER IT WAS CHECKED BY A MECHANIC. THE PANEL LIGHT FOR THE DRIVETRAIN ILLUMINATES FOR AWHILE AS WELL AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. MY CAR JUST GOT A NEW ALTERNATOR THIS PAST WEEK AND STALLED ON THE FREEWAY. ALL THESE YEARS I HAVE TAKEN THE ADVICE OF THE FORUMS WHILE COMMUNICATING WITH MY MECHANIC TO RECTIFY THE ANNOYING AND DANGEROUS ISSUES. I HAVE NOT WRITTEN BEFORE BECAUSE I DIDN'T TAKE THIS PROBLEM AS SERIOUSLY AS I SHOULD HAVE. I HAVE TWO YOUNG CHILDREN AND DO NOT LIKE STALLING OUT ON THE STREETS. IF THIS PROBLEM IS SO PREVALENT,WHY DOESN'T FORD JUST RECALL IT AND TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THEIR FAULTY CAR?! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND A PRIVATE MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE MAIN COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE UPDATED AND A WIRE WAS TOUCHING THE AIR CONDITIONER UNIT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IDLING, THE VEHICLE WOULD RAPIDLY ACCELERATE WITHOUT INTENTION. WHEN PRESSURE WAS FIRMLY APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD COME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO SHOP AND AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE BOTH WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE CAR ACCELERATES OR LUNGS WITHOUT USING GAS PEDDLE, THIS HAPPENS MANY TIMES. TOOK TO MECHANIC THEY DOWN LOADED FORD UPDATE TO COMPUTER DID NOT FIX PROBLEM. WE ALWAYS HAVE BRAKE DEPRESSED WHEN PUT INTO GEAR OR IT WILL MOVE VIOLENTLY.
FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED CAR LUNGED FORWARD AT SHUT DOWN, DIED COMPLETELY. 30 MINUTES LATER WAS ABLE TO TURN IT OVER. MECHANIC SAID IT NEEDED THROTTLE BODY BUT IT WAS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER UNTIL AUGUST 2009. SO HAD TO DRIVE IT HOME. HAPPENED QUITE A BIT THROUGHOUT THAT TIME UNTIL I REALIZED THAT IT HAD A LOT TO DO WITH HAVING THE A/C ON. IT HAPPENS EVEN WITHOUT THE A/C ON SOMETIMES AT LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, AND IN PARKING LOTS, AND ALSO WHEN IN REVERSE IT LUNGES IN THAT DIRECTION AS WELL; SOMETIMES AT VERY HIGH RATE WHICH IS SCARY. HAVE 3 CHILDREN AND CANNOT FATHOM WHY THIS CAR HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. I STILL OWE MONEY ON IT AND NOW IT IS SITTING IN MY MECHANICS GARAGE BECAUSE THE CVT TRANSMISSION WENT OUT.. 5 WEEKS NOW AND I DO NOT HAVE TRANSPORTATION BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX THE CVT TRANSMISSION THAT ALOT OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH. *TR
WHILE STOPPED AND IN GEAR AT A LIGHT OR WHILE PARKING THE ENGINE REVS AND THE VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD (OR BACKWARD IF IN REVERSE). THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK ALMOST CAUSING DAMAGE TO VEHICLES NEAR-BY. AFTER THE "SURGE" A YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT ON THE DASH COMES ON. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RESTARTED THE WARNING LIGHT GOES OFF AND THE VEHICLE OPERATES NORMALLY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. WHENEVER THE CONTACT DEPRESSES THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AUTO ZONE AND THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC. THERE WERE NO FAILURE CODES. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER, BUT WILL NOT BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION DUE TO THE COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,171.
WE HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. WHEN THE CAR IS IDLING IN HOT TEMPERATURES, SUCH AS AT A STOP LIGHT OR IN A PARKING LOT, THE CAR WILL REV UP TO ~2500-3000 RPMS AND LURCH FORWARD. SOMETIMES THE CAR DIES AFTER THIS OR SEEMS UNRESPONSIVE TO THE ACCELERATOR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON. WHEN TESTING THE CAR ON A CODE READER, IT SHOWED NOTHING RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM. THROUGH RESEARCH ONLINE, WE'VE FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2005 AND 2006 YEAR MODEL FORD FREESTYLES. WE BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, AS IT COULD LEAD TO A COLLISION WHILE TRYING TO MANEUVER AT IDLE SPEED. *TR
EACH SUMMER FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS WHEN THE TEMPERATURES REACH OVER 100 DEGREES, WE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR SURGING WHILE EITHER PARKING OR BACKING UP. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOST OFTEN ON SHORT TRIPS, USUALLY WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS STILL ON HIGH. THE BRAKES WILL STOP THE CAR BUT YOU MUST KEEP YOUR FOOT OVER THE BRAKES EVEN TO BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ANY OTHER TIME OF YEAR. THIS YEAR, 2011, THE CAR SOMETIMES STALLS OUT WHEN SURGING AND NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON. THE 2 CODES THAT CAME UP IS P2106 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM FORCED LIMITED & P061B INTERNAL CONTROL MODULE TORQUE CALCULATION. THE CURRENT MILEAGE ON THE CAR IS 34922.
SUDDEN "LURCHING" ACCELERATION WHEN IDLING, REQUIRING A QUICK RESPONSE TO STOP BEFORE CRASHING INTO OTHER VEHICLES OR LURCHING FORWARD INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, OR TO AVOID HITTING PEDESTRIANS WALKING NEAR THE CAR. IT HAPPENS BOTH IN FORWARD AND REVERSE, AND IS WORSE WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING IS RUNNING. MANY TIMES IT WILL STALL THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. HAVE HAD MANY NEAR MISSES. FORD NOW SAYS IT IS PROBABLY THE THROTTLE BODY REQUIRING APPROX. $800 TO REPLACE IT. THIS IS AFTER WE HAVE HAD IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPT. NUMEROUS TIMES AND PAID TO HAVE THE PROBLEM TESTED/FIXED TO NO AVAIL.
FORD FREESTYLE SURGES, MOVING THE VEHICLE WHEN BRAKE IS LIGHTLY HELD. *TR
I DON'T REMEMBER EXACTLY WHEN THIS FIRST HAPPENED, BUT IT WAS SOMETIME IN MID-LATE 2009, AND HAS OCCURRED MORE AND MORE OFTEN EVER SINCE. THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY LUNGE FORWARD (OR BACK IF IN REVERSE) WHEN MY FOOT IS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. WHEN THE CAR IS IDLE, I HAVE FOUND THAT I HAVE TO KEEP MY FOOT VERY FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE FOR FEAR OF HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME OR A PEDESTRIAN WALKING IN FRONT OF THE CAR. IT IS VERY SCARY. I HAVE ASKED CAR REPAIR SERVICES TO CHECK IT OUT NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAVE NOT HAD ANYONE FIND THE PROBLEM. I FEEL LIKE THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE AND I AM REALLY FRIGHTENED. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS. *TR

THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS SECONDS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WOULD MOST OCCUR IN HOT TEMPERATURES OR ONCE THE ENGINE BECAME HOT. THE DEALER REPLACED A SENSOR BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LUNGE FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS DURING THE TIME THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES BEFORE THEY WERE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE LIGHTS WOULD BE OFF BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO REACH THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS ALWAYS TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE SYMPTOM. WHILE DRIVING AT 50MPH ON THE INTERSTATE THERE WAS AN INTERMITTENT IDLE SURGE WHILE DRIVING AND THEN A LOUD "CLUNKING" NOISE AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION LOST POWER AND THE VEHICLE CRAWLED TO A HALT. THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE REVVED UP. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER SO I WAS UNABLE TO EVEN GET IT INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. I WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF THE INTERSTATE WITH MY CHILD IN THE CAR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE WRENCH LIGHT FOR THE CVT TRANSMISSION, AND THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. I HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF, PUT IT IN PARK, AND THEN RESTART THE CAR, WHEN I REACHED THE DEALERSHIP THEY WERE FINALLY ABLE TO RETRIEVE SEVERAL FAULT CODES. THEY PERFORMED AN R&R TRANSMISSION AND OVERHAUL. THIS HAPPENED 2 OTHER TIMES AT (77004 MILES, AFTER SHIFTING INTO PARK AT 0 MPH. THEY REPLACED A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY FOR THIS REPAIR- AND THEN AT 77238 MILES-THEY REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR FOR THIS REPAIR). IT'S BEGINNING TO HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS WAS AND STILL IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I NOW HAVE 3 KIDS. I THANK GOD WE WEREN'T STRUCK FROM BEHIND WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO LONG DISTANCE LOCATIONS OR DRIVE ON ANY PARKWAY, HIGHWAY, OR INTERSTATE BECAUSE IT TOOK A WHILE FOR THE VEHICLE TO START UP LONG ENOUGH TO GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT WAS ONLY 4 MILES AWAY. *TR

THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE EGR VALVES AND THROTTLE BODY. THE REPAIR PART WAS UNAVAILABLE DUE TO A MASSIVE BACK ORDER. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000. MY WIFE AND I OWN TWO 2006 FORD FREESTYLES. ONE HAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000 MILES AND THE OTHER 50,000 MILES. RIGHT ABOUT THE SAME TIME IN APRIL/MAY 2009 BOTH VEHICLES STARTED HAVE ENGINE PROBLEMS. BOTH WERE TAKEN TO FORD DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR -- THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ON BOTH VEHICLES. EACH REPAIR WAS COVERED BY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 100,000 MILES. THE PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY CAUSED THE ENGINE TO REV UP AND WANT TO TAKE OFF ON ITS OWN -- EVEN WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED DOWN. OTHER TIMES THE ENGINE WOULD JUST SHUT OFF. EITHER OF THESE CAUSED POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. ALTHOUGH NEITHER VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS FACTORY INSTALLED EQUIPMENT THE POTENTIAL FOR SERIOUS ACCIDENT/INJURY WAS GREAT. BOTH VEHICLES HAVE BEEN REPAIRED AND ARE RUNNING WELL -- FOR ABOUT $200.00 DOLLARS EACH FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE OLD PARTS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE. *TR
CAR ACCELERATE EVEN THOUGH FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. THEN CAR STALLS IN TRAFFIC AT LIGHT OR WHEN FOOT IS ON BRAKE. THROTTLE BODY NOT WORKING PROPERLY, REPAIR COST APPROX 1,200.00 ON 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. FORD CLAIMS ITEM PAST WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH MANUAL SAYS 8YR 80,000. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FREESTYLE. I HAVE A FEW MAJOR ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. ABOUT 3 MONTHS AFTER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WRENCH DASH LIGHT CAME ON AND IT SEEMED LIKE THE CAR WAS SHIFTED INTO A LOWER GEAR. I CHECKED THE SHIFTER JUST IN CASE, BUT IT WAS STILL IN DRIVE. NO MATTER HOW MUCH GAS I GAVE IT THE CAR WOULDN'T GO ANY FASTER THAN 20 OR SO MPH. I GOT OFF THE FREEWAY AND TOOK SURFACE STREETS STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE OF THEY COULD FIGURE IT OUT. I PARKED THE CAR WHILE I WAS WAITING FOR THE SERVICE PERSON, WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO NORMAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST YEARS BUT IF YOU TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON EVERYTHING IS FINE SO THE DEALERSHIP CANT SEEM TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. SHORTLY AFTER THAT WHEN THE SUMMER CAME THE CAR STARTED LURCHING OR SURGING WHEN AT SLOW SPEED, TYPICALLY IF WE WERE IDLING IN A DRIVE THRU OR GOING SLOWLY TO PARK OR BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. I CANT TELL YOU HOW MANY CARS AND PEOPLE I HAVE ALMOST HIT BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. AND OF COURSE WE ARE NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO IT WILL BE THOUSANDS TO FIX IT. LAST ISSUE IS WITH THE A/C. I JUST REPLACED THE COMPRESSOR IN AUGUST DUE TO A BENT VALVE OR SOMETHING IN THE COMPRESSOR THAT WAS NOT FIXABLE. THE CAR OCCASIONALLY SURGES FORWARD ON ITS OWN WHEN OPERATED AT A SLOW SPEED, LESS THAN 10 MPH. IT HAS DONE IT ON OCCASION SINCE 30,000 MILES AND IT NOW HAS 110,000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS HAPPENED WHEN THE AC HAS BEEN ON AND OFF, AND WHILE ACCELERATING AS WELL AS DECELERATING. I CONSIDER IT TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE SUFFICIENT TO WARRANT A RECALL. *TR
THE CAR LUNGES WHILE STOPPED OR GOING IN REVERSE. HAS DONE THIS FOR A LONG TIME..MY WIFE IS DRIVING THIS CAR NOW AND HAS BUMPED INTO POST/ALMOST LUNGED INTO PASSING CAR WHEN BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPOT. *TR
WE HAVE A 2006 FOR FREESTYLE. AFTER COMPLETING A TURN, THE CAR MADE A LOUD PITCHED SQUEAL, AND ALL GEARS WERE LOST. FORD HAS ADVISED THAT THE CVT (TRANSMISSION), HAS FAILED. WE KEPT THE CAR MAINTAINED, AND HAD NO WARNING OTHER THAN A LIGHT WHICH CAME ON AT THE TIME OF FAILURE. WE HAD THREE CHILDREN IN THE CAR AT THE TIME, AND WERE LUCKY WE WERE ON A SIDE ROAD. FORD ALSO ACKNOWLEDGED THEY HAVE SEEN THIS HAPPEN ON OTHER FREESTYLES. DEALER SAID THEY KNOW ABOUT THE ISSUE, BUT NO RECALL. COST TO REPAIR IS CLOSE TO $6,000. *TR
CRUISE CONTROL CAUSED TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT TO COME ON. TRANSMISSION WENT INTO A VARIANCE OF NEUTRAL. FIXED BY TURNING OFF CAR AND TURNING IT BACK ON AGAIN. VEHICLE WORKED FINE WITHOUT USING CRUISE CONTROL UNTIL THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED VIA RECALL. EVER SINCE THEN BATTERY HAS HAD AN UNDUE AMOUNT OF BUILDUP AT TERMINALS AND SEQUENCE ABOVE HAPPENED AT IRREGULAR INTERVALS. INTERVAL NEVER MORE THAN 100 MILES. ALWAYS FIXABLE BY TURNING CAR OFF AND TURNING IT BACK ON. FORD SAYS MAYBE $7100 WILL FIX IT. AS OF 3/1/2014 TRANSMISSION WENT OUT BUT RESTART DIDN'T FIX IT. THIS IS NOT ONLY DANGEROUS, BUT THOUSANDS OF THESE CARS ARE DOING THE SAME THING. PLEASE HELP. MOST TRANNIES COST MAYBE $2000, FORD SHOULD HAVE A BETTER FIX. OTHERWISE I LIKE THE CAR AND WOULDN'T MIND PAYING A REASONABLE AMOUNT FOR A TRANSMISSION REPLACE. EXCESSIVE BRAKE DUST. WAS INFORMED THAT REAR BRAKES WERE DOWN TO METAL. ROTORS WERE SO WORN THEY COULD NOT BE TURNED.REPLACED REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS.TOOK CAR IN FOR ROUTINE CHECK AND MENTIONED THAT THE REAR BAR THAT THE 3RD ROW OF SEATS HOLDS ONTO WAS RUSTING. ASKED IF THEY COULD CHECK FOR LEAKS AND IF OTHER PEOPLE WERE COMPLAINING. THEY FOUND NO LEAKS AND SAID I MUST HAVE GOTTEN THE CAR EXCESSIVELY WET ON THE INSIDE (NO!). I ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT A SOUR MOLDY SMELL COMING FROM THE AIR CONDITIONER...AGAIN NO SOLUTION.HAD TO REPLACE TIRES BECUASE THEY WOR OUT 'PREMATURELY'. WAS TOLD IT WAS MY DRIVING. DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNDER WARRANTY OR OFFER HELP. TIRES HAD ABNORMAL WEAR ON THE INSIDE(TOEING?) THEN I WAS GETTING VERY POOR GAS MILEAGE AND NEEDED A ROUTINE CHECK AND OIL CHANGE AGAIN. I TOOK IT IN AND WAS INFORMED I HAD NO REAR BRAKES LEFT. THE REAR CALIPERS WERE FAILING TO RELEASE. ONCE AGAIN BRAKE ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. TOOK CAR IN FOR AND ENGINE NOISE/WHINE 3 DIFFERENT TIMES AND HAD A TECH RIDE WITH ME. EACH TIME THEY HEARD NOTHING AND DID NOTHING. TOOK CAR IN FOR A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM REAR WHEEL ALONG WITH A BURNING SMELL. TECH RODE WITH ME AND DID NOT HEAR ANY NOISE FROM TIRE BUT DID COMMENT ABOUT THE ENGINE NOISE/WHINE. I WAS FINALLY RELIEVED THAT HE HEARD IT AND I TOLD HIM NO OTHER TECH HAS SEEMED TO HEAR IT. CAR WAS LOOKED AT AND FOUND THAT REAR DRIVER TIRE BEARINGS WERE SHOT AND WHEEL WAS LOOSE(VERY DANGEROUS THEY SAID) THEY HAD TO ORDER PARTS. WHEN I ASKED WHAT THEY FOUND OUT ABOUT THE ENGINE WHINE THAT THE TECH ALSO HEARD, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO MENTION OF IT BUT THEY WOULD LOOK INTO IT BEFORE I CAME TO PICK UP MY CAR. NEXT I GOT A PHONE CALL SAYING THE SHOP FOREMAN DIDN'T HEAR THE NOISE, SO THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO.NOW FOR THE LAST TWO DAYS MY CAR HAS STARTED REALLY ROUGH AND THEN DIED. AT THE BEGINNING OF FEBRUARY, MY KIDS WANTED TO WATCH A DVD IN THE CAR WHILE I WAS CLEANING THE DRIVEWAY. I PUT THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION (I DID NOT START THE ENGINE) FOR THE DVD TO WORK, PUT ON THE DVD AND START CLEANING THE DRIVEWAY. I HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE WITH ABOUT 117,000 MILES ON IT BUT THEIR PROBLEMS STARTED AT AROUND 75,000. THE LITTLE "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON. I BROUGHT IT TO A DEALER - PUT IN THE SUPER DUPER COMPUTER AND FOUND IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND IT COULD BE DANGEROUS. TODAY WHEN I GOT BACK FROM THE GROCERY STORE I WAS REVERSING INTO MY GARAGE AND THE CAR STARTED TO LUNGE I APPLIED THE BREAK AND IT CONTINUED TO JERK ABOUT A FOOT TILL IT STOPPED. I WAS NOT SURE THE CAR WOULD STOP, THIS SCARED ME HALF TO DEATH, I KEPT ON THINKING WHAT IF SOMEONE WAS BEHIND ME. I TRIED AGAIN AND IT HAPPENED 2 MORE TIMES BEFORE I SHUT THE CAR OFF. I THEN TURNED EVERYTHING OFF IN THE CAR STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND PUT IT INTO REVERSE AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I WAS VERY GRATEFUL THAT THIS HAPPENED IN MY OWN DRIVE WAY. IF I WAS IN A PARKING LOT I COULD HAVE HIT A CAR WITH IT MOVING A FOOT AND I COULD HAVE HIT SOMEONE. THE JERKING/LUNGING IN THE CAR IS VERY SPORADIC AND HAS HAPPENED WHILE MY HUSBAND DROVE THE CAR AS WELL, SO IT IS NOT OPERATOR ERROR. IT IS SO SPORADIC THAT THIS ACTION IS HARD TO RECREATE AT A GIVEN NOTICE YOU CAN NOT PREDICT THE TIME BUT YOU CAN ANTICIPATE THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK. SOME MAY THINK THAT IF IT IS HARD TO RECREATE THEN IT IS NOT A PROBLEM, BUT IF IT HAPPENS AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK THAT IS SOMETHING TO LOOK AT ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT HUMAN LIFE. ONE SITUATION THAT HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES IS SITTING IN A LINE SUCH AS A DRIVE THRU AND IDLING WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD. ANOTHER SCENARIO IS PUTTING THE CAR IN REVERSE AND THE CAR LURCHES BACKWARDS. SITTING AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN BEHIND THE LINE OF A CROSSWALK AND THE CAR HAS LURCHED FORWARD WITH FOOT ON BRAKE AND NARROWLY MISSED A PEDESTRIAN. I TEND TO PUT IT IN PARK WHEN AT A LIGHT OR IN A DRIVE THRU. I HAVE REPORTED IT TO FORD AND THEY DISCREDITED MY CLAIM SAYING IT WAS AN ISSUE I NEEDED TO REPAIR AND DID NOT CONSTITUTE A RECALL. MOST RECENTLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD ABNORMALLY. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION THROTTLE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.

THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN 2008 AND I DID TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND THEY WOULD DO SOMETHING TO IT AND IT WOULD STOP FOR AWHILE BUT WOULD START DOING IT AGAIN AND THIS HAS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR 2 YEARS NOW. I CANNOT LET MY TEENAGERS DRIVE MY VEHICLE BECAUSE I AM AFRAID THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WHEN IT STARTS LUNGING FORWARD AGAIN. *TR
MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE STARTED TO JERK AND WHEN STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN OR PULLING INTO TRAFFIC WOULD ACCELERATE UNCONTROLLABLY. I HAD THE THROTTLE SWITCH REPLACED ONLY A MONTH AFTER I GOT THE CAR AND IT BEGAN TO DO THE SAME THING SHORTLY AFTER AND THE WARNING SAID MISFIRE SO I HAD NEW SPARK PLUGS PUT IN. THE FOLLOWING SUMMER SAME PROBLEMS BUT THIS TIME I HAD TO HAVE NEW COILS PUT IN. I DROVE THE CAR FOR A MONTH AND WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC IT WOULD COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT, THIS HAPPENED ABOUT FOUR TIMES. IT NOW HAS COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND WILL NOT START AT ALL. I HAVE REPLACED BATTERIES, TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL DEALERS AND ALL SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO THAT IT IS "PROBABLY" A COMPUTER PROBLEM, I HAVE SINCE PARKED THE CAR AS IT IS UNSAFE AND UNDRIVABLE. I WAS DRIVING 65 MILES AN HOUR ON THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY WHEN WITHOUT THE WARNING THE RECENTLY AND CONTINUALLY MAINTAINED VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING. AFTER 4 DEALERS CONTACTED FOUND ONE WHO WOULD LOOK AT CAR THAT WEEK I WAS 3 HRS FROM HOME ON VACATION. IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE A BROKEN WIRE IN A HARNESS THAT RUNS THE CRANK SHAFT? NO EXPLANATION HOW THIS COULD POSSIBLY HAPPEN FROM FORD BUT NOT COVERED ON ANY WARRANTY. CANNOT EVER EVEN CHECK THIS HARNESS AS IT IS ENCLOSED. SEEMS TO BE AN AWFULLY DANGEROUS DEFECT...... *TR
2006 FORD FREESTYLE HAS 64,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS TOLD THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS BAD. AFTER LOOKING INTO THIS ON LINE I SEE THAT THE MAJORITY OF OWNERS OF THE 2005 AND 2006 ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS AIS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE WHEN WAITING TO GO AND MOVE THE CARE WILL LUNGE FORWARD AND COULD HIT ANOTHER CAR OR YET A PERSON. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY CAR LUNGING FRONTWARDS AND BACKWARDS. I FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS AN ISSUE WHEN THE CAR HAD BEEN IN IDLE FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME BUT I HAVE NOW NOTICED IT HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY UPON INITIAL START AND AFTER BEING IN IDLE WITH THE HEAT OR AIR RUNNING. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION ESPECIALLY IN A PARKING LOT OR DRIVE WAY WHERE THERE ARE OTHER VEHICLES PARKED CLOSELY OR PEOPLE WALKING NEAR BY. *TR
WHILE CURBSIDE AT THE AIRPORT MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE STARTED TO ACCELERATE BY ITSELF. AND NEARLY PLOWED INTO THE CAR AND PEDESTRIANS IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN THE ACCELERATION SUBSIDED I REPOSITIONED MY FEET (LEFT FOOT BRAKE, RIGHT FOOT ON FLOOR) BECAUSE I THOUGHT MY FOOT WAS ON BOTH THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR. A MINUTE OR SO LATER THE CAR DID IT AGAIN, I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND TURNED IT OFF. WHEN MY PASSENGERS WERE RE LOADED I STARTED THE CAR AND WHILE LEAVING THE AIRPORT NOTICED THE CAR WAS VERY SLUGGISH. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THAT DAY. AFTER MORE THAN TWO DAYS, LOTS OF PHONE CALLS (ABOUT WHAT MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM "BUT WE'RE NOT SURE") AND A LOT OF NEGOTIATION BETWEEN THE DEALER AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY "PROVIDER" IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS THE CULPRIT BUT "THE PART WAS ON NATIONWIDE BACK-ORDER" IN FACT "WE HAVE ANOTHER FREESTYLE OUT IN THE BACK THAT HAS BEEN WAITING FOR A MONTH". THE TUNE CHANGED CONSIDERABLY WHEN THE DEALER FOUND OUT THAT I WAS NOT ONLY CONSIDERING A LEGAL PATH FOR RESOLUTION, BUT MY WIFE WAS A "CONSUMER COP" FOR THE STATE WHERE WE LIVE. THE PARTS (2)WERE "FOUND" IN CALIFORNIA AND AIR-FREIGHTED TO OUR DEALER WHO PROMPTLY FIXED BOTH CARS THAT DAY. I WAS CHARGED $550+ FOR THE REPAIR(NEITHER FORD OR THE 100K MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY "PROVIDER" COVERED THE WORK). IT SEEMS THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS EXACT PROBLEM TOO, HOW MANY DOES IT TAKE? DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO GET KILLED OR INJURED FOR SOME ONE TO FIGURE OUT THAT THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT CAN'T POSSIBLY BE A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR OR CONSUMER CAUSED PROBLEM. *TR
HAD A FLAT TIRE ON MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE, AWD, LTD AND INSTALLED THE SPACE SAVER TIRE. WHILE DRIVING, THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED TO OPERATE, ALL FAULT INDICATORS ON THE DASHBOARD ILLUMINATED, AND THE TRANSMISSION PROCEEDED TO ERRATICALLY UP AND DOWN SHIFT. WENT DIRECTLY TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHEREIN TOLD BY SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THIS WAS NOT NORMAL. TOLD SERVICE ADVISOR THAT I THOUGHT IT HAD TO DO WITH THE SPACE SAVER TIRE. THERE WAS NO INFORMATION IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL TO THE VEHICLES ERADICATE BEHAVIOR. LATER, SERVICE ADVISOR REPORTED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL BEHAVIOR WITH THE SPACE SAVER TIRE AND THE VEHICLES ABS SENSORS. I DISAGREED ON THE NORMAL BEHAVIOR SINCE I CONSIDER MY SPEEDOMETER A SAFETY DEVICE - AND SINCE THE SPACE SAVER TIRE IS SPEED LIMITED, THIS MADE THE VEHICLE BEHAVIOR QUESTIONABLE. *TR
TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS CAR HAS SUDDENLY REVVED THE ENGINE. ONCE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BACK UP, HAD TO SLAM BREAK TO KEEP FROM SMASHING INTO ROW BEHIND US. ONCE WHILE SETTING AT RED LIGHT. ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED TO 6K RPM, THEN DROPPED THEN SURGED AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN BRAKING OR SITTING IDLE AT A STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE MECHANIC CLEANED CARBON DEPOSITS FROM THE THROTTLE. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE WOULD POSSIBLY HAVE TO BE REPLACED IF THE CLEANING REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT WITH THE MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE AND RECOMMENDED HAVING THE DEALER REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000.
