TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE IDLING AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY LURCH FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. SHE WOULD HAVE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND APPLY PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO DISCONTINUE VEHICLE ACCELERATION. SHE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP, AND A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. SHE HAD THE COMPONENT REPLACED AT ANOTHER DEALER, BECAUSE THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER. A YEAR LATER THE FAILURE RESURFACED. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD HER THAT THE IDLE AIR CONTROL MOTOR WAS THE CAUSE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER, SO THEY CLEANED THE COMPONENT. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD TRY TO EXPEDITE THE PART TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,321. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 47,000. UPDATE 12/14/09 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED BACK IN 2008 WHEN SHE PLACED THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE, IT ACCELERATED BACKWARDS RAPIDLY. IN OCT 2009 THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED. 2006 FORD FREESTYLE HAS EXPERIENCED THE 'LUNGING' WHEN BACKING OR PARKING AT SLOW OR NO SPEED WITHOUT FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR AS NOTED IN NHTSA COMPLAINT PE11018. THIS HAS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED IN 2008 WITH AROUND 58,000 MILES ON IT. CALL TO DEALER AT THE TIME WAS MEET WITH SKEPTICISM, NOT HEARD OF SUCH PROBLEM. NO TROUBLE CODES WERE GENERATED. INTERNET RESEARCH REVEALED MANY WERE HAVING THIS PROBLEM, SOMETIMES CURED WITH A EXPENSIVE THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT OR SOME OTHER FIX, BUT MANY TIMES NOT. CURRENTLY HAS 103,000 MILES AND STILL HAS INTERMITTENT 'LUNGING'. HAVE NOTICED THAT IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY DURING HOT WEATHER, 90+ DEGREES, A/C ON FULL BLAST, STEERING WHEEL TURNED AND JUST CHANGED GEARS. ENGINE SEEMS TO BE HAVING TROUBLE CONTROLLING THE IDLE SPEED WITH THE ENGINE LOADS AND THEN OVER CORRECTS, CREATING 'LUNGING', REQUIRING VERY FIRM PRESSURE ON BRAKE TO HOLD CAR BACK. THESE MORE FREQUENT, SMALL 'LUNGING' INCIDENTS, DO NOT TRIGGER ANY ERRORS OR LIGHTS, OTHERWISE DRIVES NORMAL. ON MAYBE 3 OR 4 OCCASIONS, THE CAR WOULD ALTERNATE BETWEEN ALMOST DYING AND OVER-REVVING TO CONTROL IDLE SEVERAL TIMES VERY QUICKLY AND THEN A BUNCH OF WARNING LIGHTS WOULD FLASH AND THEN THE 'WRENCH' WOULD COME ON AND CAR WOULD BARELY ACCELERATE OR GO MORE THAN 20 MPH EVEN IF FLOORED. AS FOUND ON THE INTERNET, IF PULLED OVER AND CAR TURNED CAR OFF, WAITED A MINUTE AND RESTARTED, CAR WOULD BE FINE, AS IF NOTHING EVER HAPPENED, INCLUDING NO ERROR CODES WHEN SCANNED AFTERWARDS. ASIDE FROM THIS ISSUE, WE THOROUGHLY ENJOY THE OUR VERSATILE FREESTYLE, BUT DESIRE SOME FIRM RESOLUTION TO ELIMINATE THIS ISSUE, SO IT CAN BE ENJOYED WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT WHEN THE LUNGING WILL REAR ITS HEAD HOPE YOU CAN PRESS THE BRAKES HARD ENOUGH TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE FORWARD ABNORMALLY, MOST OFTEN WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED. IN ADDITION, THE WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED, THE VEHICLE WOULD DECELERATE TO 20 MPH AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ANY HIGHER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS SHE WAS ALLOWING A PASSENGER TO EXIT THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD ABNORMALLY, CAUSING THE PASSENGER TO TWIST AND SPARIN AN ANKLE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 118,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
I OWN A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE, WHICH I PURCHASED, USED,IN 2007. I HAVE HAD TWO THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLIES REPLACED. THE FIRST WAS IN JULY, 2008 @ 40,203 MILES AND THE SECOND IN AUGUST, 2010 @ 84,731 MILES. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PROBLEM ARE: 'WHEN STARTING TO MOVE FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE ENGINE WOULD SURGE, AS IF THE ACCELERATOR HAD BEEN DEPRESSED. 'SOMETIMES WHEN THIS SURGING OCCURRED, THE ENGINE HAD NO POWER 'WHEN THE "NO POWER" OCCURRED, IT COULD BE CORRECTED BY TURNING OFF AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THIS CONDITION OCCURS MOST OFTEN WHEN TRYING TO MOVE IN REVERSE. THE CONDITION HAS OCCURRED IN THE SUMMER BOTH TIMES *KB
WE BOUGHT A USED FORD FREESTYLE IN 2008. SINCE THAT TIME, WE HAVE HAD RECURRING PROBLEMS STEMMING FROM A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. IT HAS BEEN IN-AND-OUT OF THE SHOP, WHILE VARIOUS MECHANICS TRIED TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. FINALLY, APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS AGO, I DID MY OWN RESEARCH (DISCOVERED THE COUNTLESS REPORTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THE FREESTYLE) AND SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED THAT THE MECHANIC REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS WAS AFTER HAVING SURGES IN RPMS AND LURCHING OF THE CAR (WHILE SITTING IN TRAFFIC WITH NO FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR), AND ALSO DEAD STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS AND ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM UNTIL SEVERAL MONTHS LATER. NEXT, WE REPLACED THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION LAST SPRING (THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT DOWN TO FIRST GEAR AT CRUISING SPEED, E.G., ON THE INTERSTATE, THEN GO INTO "LIMP" MODE). IN ADDITION, APPARENTLY THERE IS ALSO A SYSTEMIC ISSUE WITH THE DESIGN OF THE FORD'S SCROLL COMPRESSOR, WHICH BEGAN SHOWING SYMPTOMS THIS PAST SPRING. THANKFULLY MY (NEW) MECHANIC REPLACED A $40 VALVE IN THE COMPRESSOR, INSTEAD OF THE ENTIRE $1000 COMPRESSOR (WHICH THE FORD FOLKS RECOMMENDED). APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS LATER, WE ARE REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY FOR A SECOND TIME TODAY (IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP) BECAUSE OF ISSUES WITH SURGES IN ACCELERATION AND STALLING IN TRAFFIC AND LOSS OF POWER. THE MECHANIC JUST TOLD ME, "AS A FRIEND, I'M TELLING YOU: AS SOON AS THIS CAR IS FIXED, YOU NEED TO SELL IT. YOU WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE RECURRING PROBLEMS WITH IT." WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FOR AROUND $10,000, AND I'D ESTIMATE WE HAVE SPENT NEARLY THAT MUCH IN REPAIRS OVER THE PAST FOUR YEARS. I'M JUST THANKFUL THAT MY WIFE AND CHILDREN WERE NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED IN THE MEANTIME. HOW CAN FORD SELL SUCH AN UNSAFE VEHICLE WITH NO RECOURSE? AS SOON AS I CAN AFFORD ANOTHER VEHICLE, I'M SELLING THIS FREESTYLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PLACE IT INTO GEAR. AFTERWARDS, THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY UNIT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, THE DEALER ONLY CHARGED HER $142 FOR THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT ASKED THE DEALER IF THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT MAY NOT START. MOST RECENTLY, SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE COULD STICK AND SHE MAY BE UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO DEALER IN THE UNITED STATES THAT HAD THE PART REQUIRED FOR THE REPAIR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 36,935. THE REAR BRAKES ON MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE AWD LIMITED ARE COMPLETELY GONE AFTER ONLY 25,000 MILES. THEY WERE SUDDENLY METAL ON METAL. BEFORE I KNEW WHAT WAS HAPPENING THE CAR IS IN A NEAR NON-DRIVABLE STATE. FORD DID NOT INFORM ME OF ANY BRAKE PROBLEMS. I READ OTHERS COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND THEN CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME THERE IS AN OPEN RECALL AND I COULD RECEIVE A ONE TIME REPAIR. BY REPAIR I ASSUME THEY MEAN NEW BRAKE PADS AND HOPEFULLY ROTORS. I'M WONDERING IF FORD IS ACTUALLY GOING TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM WHICH I ASSUME IS THE CALIPERS. I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYONE SAY THAT THEY ARE. I'M SURE I'LL SOON NEED ANOTHER REAR BRAKE REPAIR AND WHAT THEN? *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILURE REQUIRING TOTAL NEW TRANSMISSION IN VEHICLE LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PLACE THE GEAR IN DRIVE, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY THREE YEARS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED IT BEGAN TO LUNGE BACKWARDS WHILE IN REVERSE AND FORWARD WHILE IN DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE WAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) WHICH MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL EITHER TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A CLICKING SOUND WITHIN THE FRONT AXLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGERS SIDE CV JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,935.
VEHICLE LUNGES AT IDLE, ESPECIALLY ON HOT DAYS WHEN A/C IS RUNNING. ALMOST RAN OVER ATTENDANT AT OIL CHANGE LOCATION. THIS HAS OCCURRED ABOUT 30 TIMES SINCE WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR. THE DEALER HAS NO KNOWLEDGE OF OTHER FREESTYLES WITH THIS PROBLEM, BUT MANY OTHER FREESTYLE OWNERS DO, AS DOES THE FORD CORPORATION.
CAR LURCHES FORWARD IN IDLE. CATCHES ME BY SURPRISE WHEN I MOVE FROM PARKED POSITION TO DRIVE. I HAVE TO IMMEDIATELY AND FORCEFULLY PUT ON THE BRAKES OR WILL HIT A PARK CAR OR MOVING VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM IS WORSE WHEN I HAVE THE AIR CONDITIONER ON "HIGH" I KEEP THE AIR CONDITIONER FAN LOW TO MINIMIZE THE PROBLEM... *TT

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. THE DEALER DOES NOT EXPECT THE PARTS TO BE AVAILABLE BEFORE SEPTEMBER 2010. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 106,000.
I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED SURGING OR ACCELERATION OF MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BACK IN DECEMBER 2007. THE CAR HAD OTHER ENGINE PROBLEMS AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE WAS REPLACED IN MAY OF 2008. HOWEVER, OVER THE LAST MONTH I HAVE EXPERIENCED CONTINUING SUDDEN SURGING PROBLEMS AND AT A GAS STATION RECENTLY, I NEARLY REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME DUE TO THE SURGING. IT HAPPENS MOST OFTEN WHEN IT STARTS UP OR WHEN IT IS IDLING AND THEN I START TO GO AND THE ACCELERATOR SURGES. THIS COULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY IF A PERSON WAS NEAR MY CAR WHEN IT SURGES UNEXPECTEDLY. FORD CANNOT SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SURGING IS NOW HAPPENING DAILY. *TR
THE REAR BRAKES ON MY 06 FORD FREESTYLE ARE COMPLETELY WORN AT 38000 MILES. REAR BRAKES SHOULD NOT WEAR THAT FAST. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND IDLER BYPASS WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED REPLACING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 118,000.
THE ENGINE SEEMS TO HAVE POWER SURGES IN REVERSE. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH IT IS GOING TO TAKE OFF WHILE MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. *TR
MULTIPLE TIMES, IT SEEMS, WHEN WE HAVE THE AIR CONDITIONER ON, OUR VEHICLE ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN. WE HAVE ALMOST HIT OTHERS IN PARKING LOTS, INTERSECTIONS AND ON THE ROAD BECAUSE OF THIS. SOMETIMES, IT EVEN ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. OUR VEHICLE HAS ALSO SHUT OFF WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON.
SHORTLY AFTER WE PURCHASED THE CAR ON JAN 01, 2008 WE BEGAN TO HAVE ISSUES WITH LUNGING AND HIGH IDLING. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THEY CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR. IT WAS OK FOR A FEW MONTHS AND STARTED BACK. WE TOOK IT BACK AND THEY REPLACED THE TBS AND ANOTHER PART. CAR WORKED GREAT FOR A WHILE, BUT HAD TO HAVE THE TBS CLEANED AGAIN IN 2011 AND 2012 AND IS NOW DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN AND MORE. NOW IT IS EXTREME. I WORK ABOUT 6 MILES FROM HOME AND HAVE TO STOP SEVERAL TIMES TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON TO RESET THE WRENCH THAT COMES ON IN ORDER TO RESET THE HIGH IDLE. IF I DON'T, WHEN I HIT THE GAS, THE RPM'S GO UP TO 4 AND 5K ONLY DOING 30 MPH. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ALSO ON. I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED AND THE ERROR CODE IS P0701 INDICATING TRANSMISSION AND TB ISSUES. THE CAR ALSO LUNGES FORWARD A GREAT DEAL AND I HAVE TO STAY BACK A SAFE DISTANCE IN ORDER TO BE SURE IF IT LUNGES I DON'T HIT ANYONE. THE ISSUE IS FAR BEYOND THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR. IT HAS TO ALSO DO WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION WHICH FORD KNOWS IS A LEMON. PLEASE PUSH THIS ISSUE SO THAT THEY WILL HAVE TO RECALL THE FAULTY PARTS AND PROTECT THE SAFETY OF THE FAMILIES IN THEIR VEHICLES. IF I HAD ANOTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION I WOULD CERTAINLY NOT BE IN THIS CAR. *TR
TSB 06154 PREMATURE TIRE WEAR I HAVE 40,000 MILES ON MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE AND NEED MY FORTH SET OF TIRES, I HAD IT TO THE DEALER AT LEAST THREE TIMES AND THE PROBLEM STILL IS NOT FIXED. *TR
THE CAR WILL SURGE ON IT'S OWN AT DIFFERENT TIMES: SITTING AT A RED LIGHT ~NORMAL MISC IDLING, WHILE IN REVERSE, WHILE MAKING FULL TURNS. IT WILL ALSO SOMETIMES DIE RIGHT AFTER THE SURGE, BUT NOT EVERY TIME. IT IS WORSE IN THE SUMMER DURING HIGH TEMPS, BUT WILL SOMETIMES DO IT IN COLDER TEMPS AS WELL. IT DOES THIS WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE, ALSO WHEN IT HAS BEEN IN PARKED (WHILE IDLING). AT A DRIVE THRU WINDOW ON ONE OCCASION, IT SURGED OVER 5 TIMES AND WAS RESTARTED OVER 5 DIFFERENT TIMES, ALL AT SAME DRIVE THRU WINDOW. (MAYBE 10 MINUTES AT THE WINDOW) . ADDITIONALLY THE DRIVER FRONT SEAT, SEAT WARMER HAS STOPPED WORKING, THE KEYPAD ON THE DRIVER'S CAR DOOR TO OPEN THE CAR DOORS WILL NOT FUNCTION, SEVERAL LIGHTS INSIDE THE DASH DO NOT LIGHT UP AND/OR VERY DIM, THE MIDDLE ROW SEAT 2/3, THE SEAT ON THE LEFT SIDE WILL NOT FOLD DOWN. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE WHICH HAS BEEN HAVING A SURGING PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN ACCRUING EVERYDAY NOW. IT HAPPENS MORE WHEN PUT IN REVERSE YOU NEED TO HIT THE BRAKES AND THAN IT STALLS. I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT MANY OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERS SEEM TO HAVE A VARIETY OF SOLUTIONS BUT NO REAL FIX. MOST SAY IT IS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE, OTHERS A ELECTRICAL ONE. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED. *KB
1. THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING TO THIS FAILURE. 2. THE FAILURE IS THAT WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT NOTICE MY 2006 FREESTYLE GOES INTO FAIL SAFE MODE WHICH CAUSES THE RPMS TO RAPIDLY INCREASE AND THE ACCELERATOR TO NOT RESPOND TO MY ACTIONS. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE MY FREESTYLE TURNED 50,000 MILES. THIS FAILURE HAPPENS EVERYDAY AND MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY. THE CONSEQUENCES FROM THIS FAILURE ARE NEAR FATAL ACCIDENTS. 3. MY VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I PURCHASED IT. I WAS TOLD MULTIPLE TIMES THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG, BUT THEY COULD INVESTIGATE THE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $1800.00. I DID NOT HAVE THEM DO THAT. I DID BRING IT TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST AT A COST OF $1600.00. THEY WOULD NOT WARRANTY THE WORK AS THE ONLY PARTS AVAILABLE FROM FORD WERE RECONDITIONED AND FORD THEN REQUIRED THE REPLACED PART BE SHIPPED BACK TO THEM. PROBLEM OCCURRED THE FOLLOWING WINTER OF 2008 WHEN DROPPING OFF CHILD TO SCHOOL, DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE AND FLEW OPEN AS I WAS DRIVING AWAY, NEARLY SWINGING INTO PATH OF CHILD. PULLED CAR OFF MAIN ROAD TO TRY AND CLOSE DOOR WITH SEVERAL HARD SLAMS BUT LATCH WOULD NOT CATCH DOOR. CALLED FORD RECALL CORPORATE CENTER WHO CHECKED THEIR RECORDS AND CONFIRMED THE DEALER MARKED THE RECALL AS FIXED ALREADY. I EXPLAINED TO THE FORD RECALL DEPARTMENT THAT REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE DEALER ACTUALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM, IT IS STILL OCCURRING AND WAS A VERY DANGEROUS HAZARD DURING WINTER MONTHS WHEN DOOR COULD SWING OPEN AND HIT ADJACENT CARS, PEDESTRIANS, LIGHT POLES AND TREES ALONG URBAN LOCAL ROADS WHERE SIDEWALKS AND POLES ARE TYPICALLY NEAR THE CURB. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FURTHER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS ALREADY 'FIXED' UNDER THE RECALL NOTICE. I LOOKED INTO WHAT THE 'FIX' WAS AND IT WAS SIMPLY HAVING THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN DRILL A HOLE IN THE DOOR FRAME TO ALLOW CONDENSATION TO DRAIN INSTEAD OF FREEZING NEAR THE LATCH MECHANISM. I AM AN ENGINEER BY PROFESSION, AND IN MY REVIEW OF THIS REMEDIAL MEASURE, IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THE DRILL BIT SIZE BEING PROVIDED TO THE DEALERSHIPS FOR THIS FIX WAS NOT A LARGE ENOUGH DIAMETER TO ENSURE PROPER DRAINAGE AND AS A RESULT, THE CONDENSATION WOULD SIMPLY FREEZE ACROSS THE FULL DIAMETER OF THE DRILLED HOLE INTENDED FOR DRAINAGE. THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE FREQUENT OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS. RECENTLY, MY WIFE WAS TRYING TO PARALLEL PARK WHEN THE FREESTYLE SUDDENLY LURCHED BACKWARD NARROWLY MISSING THE CAR BEHIND OURS. THE CAR STALLED WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES. SHE RESTARTED THE CAR, AND AGAIN IT LURCHED, THIS TIME DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER. AGAIN, THE CAR STALLED WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES. OUR CHILDREN WERE AS FRIGHTENED AS MY WIFE. WE TOOK OUR FREESTYLE IN ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED EVEN AFTER WE EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED. SUNROOF/MOONROOF LEAK: POSSIBLY ALLOWS WATER INSIDE VEHICLE EVERY TIME IT GETS WET. BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE SELLING DEALER APPROXIMATELY 16 MOS. INTO WARRANTY. I THOUGHT IT WAS A WINDSHIELD LEAK AT FIRST AND THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO GO TO A GLASS COMPANY. I EXPLAINED THAT I HAD NOT HAD ANY GLASS REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE AND THAT IT WAS A FORD PROBLEM, TO WHICH THEY RESPONDED THAT THEY WOULD CHECK IT OUT. WHEN I RETURNED TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE LEAK. I ASKED IF THEY HAD PUT WATER ON THE CAR ROOF AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NOT TO WHICH I QUESTIONED HOW CAN YOU FIND A WATER LEAK WITHOUT WATER? I REFUSED TO PICK UP THE CAR AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD TRY WATER. THE NEXT DAY THEY CALLED TO SAY THE LEAK WAS REPAIRED,THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THE MOONROOF LEAK, AND THAT THEY HAD REROUTED THE DRAINS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVED THEM. I FORGOT ABOUT THE PROBLEM UNTIL MARCH 09 AT WHICH TIME I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD BY A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP IN DEARBORN THAT I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE IT EVALUATED AT A FORD DEALER AT MY EXPENSE.I DECLINED THIS.NOW ROUGHLY ONE YEAR LATER IT IS BACK AGAIN AND I HAVE CONCERNS THAT IT PROBABLY WILL LEAD TO MOLD, IF IT HASN'T ALREADY, AND THAT BECAUSE THE WATER STAYS ABOVE THE HEADLINER, THE WIRING FOR MY REAR BRAKELIGHTS AS WELL AS THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS COULD POSSIBLY BE COMPROMISED,IN ADDITION TO LEADING TO PREMATURE RUST THROUGH OR ROT WHERE THE WATER EVENTUALLY COMES OUT.ALSO I FEEL BETRAYED BY FORD BECAUSE I HAVE COPIES OF OTHER TSB'S WHICH PERTAIN TO MY VEHICLE BUT WERE NOT TAKEN CARE OF BECAUSE I DID NOT COMPLAIN OF THOSE SYMPTOMS AT THE TIME OF SERVICE AND NOW THAT I'VE REALISED I HAVE THOSE PROBLEMS IT'S TOO LATE FOR THEM TO BE COVERED. AT LOW SPEED 0-5 MPH +/- VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY SURGE. THIS CAN OCCUR WHEN MOVING FORWARD, BUT MOST OFTEN OCCURS WHEN VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE, AS IN BACKING INTO A PARKING SPACE. THE SURGE IS VERY EVIDENT -- THE ENGINE REVS AND THE VEHICLE SPEEDS UP. THIS WILL OCCUR REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE ACCELERATOR OR BRAKE PEDALS ARE DEPRESSED. THERE IS NO EVIDENT CORRELATION BETWEEN THE SURGE AND OTHER ACTIVITIES SUCH AS AIR CONDITIONER USE, WEATHER CONDITIONS, ETC. HOWEVER, THERE DOES SEEM TO A BE A CORRELATION WITH THE VEHICLE'S DIRECTION OF TRAVEL AND, POSSIBLY, ENGINE TEMP. MY OBSERVATION IS THAT THE SURGE ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY OCCURS 1) WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE; 2) AT LOW SPEED OR IDLE; AND 3) AFTER THE ENGINE WARMS.

WAS SUPPOSEDLY CORRECTED BY REROUTING FRONT MOONROOF DRAINS ACCORDING TO FORD T.S.B. # 07-3-6 BY DEALER UNDER WARRANTY. APPARENTLY (ACCORDING TO NUMEROUS POSTS ON FORD FORUMS) THE DRAINAGE TUBES DO NOT HAVE A POSITIVE DRAIN CONDITION WHEN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE IS PARKED SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN THE REAR. THIS NEGATIVE DRAIN CONDITION CAUSES WATER TO BUILD UP AND THEN OVERFLOW ONTO THE CEILING HEADLINER, WHERE IT CAN GO FORWARD AND OVERSPILL NEAR THE WINDSHIELD, OR GO BACKWARDS AND ROLL DOWN THE REAR SHOULDER BELTS. IN EITHER CASE IT CAUSES WATER TO BE SOMEWHERE IT SHOULD NOT BE, LEADING TO POSSIBLE SAFETY PROBLEMS CAUSED BY ELECTRICAL SHORTS,(THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS IS ROUTED IN THE HEADLINER, WHICH I'M SURE HAS THE CURRENT FOR SOME OF THE SAFETY DEVICES), PREMATURE RUST THROUGH, (FROM TRAPPED WATER),AS WELL AS POSSIBLE HEALTH ISSUES ATTRIBUTABLE TO MOLD ( ASTHMA, ETC. ). AFTER THE THIRD VISIT TO THE DEALERS, I CONTACTED FORD TO EXPRESS MY FRUSTRATION REGARDING THE TIRES AND THAT FACT THAT I HAD TO CONTINUALLY REPLACE THESE TIRES AT MY COST ? IT WAS UNUSUAL THAT TIRES WERE WEARING OUT WITH LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE TIRE, SUGGESTING THAT THE UNUSUAL WEAR WAS A FACTOR THAT WAS BEING CAUSED ROADS WITHIN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND IMPROPER MAINTENANCE AND OUR FAILURE TO KEEP OUR TIRE ALIGNED AND BALANCED. ON AUGUST 26TH, 2007 - MY CAR BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE SOME A WOBBLING IN THE CAR AS IF THE CAR WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT - WITH A FIVE MINUTE PERIOD, IT STARTED TO FEEL LIKE WE HAD A FLAT TIRE. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INSPECTED THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE, WHICH DID NOT APPEAR TO BE FLAT. AGAIN I PROCEEDED DOWN THE ROAD AND WITHIN THE NEXT 500 MY CAR BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE SOME A SEVER WOBBLING, VIOLENTLY SHAKING THE CAR. AGAIN, I GOT OUT OF THE CAR TO INSPECT THE TIRES ASSUMING THAT THIS WAS BEING CAUSED BEING CAUSED BY A FLAT TIRE. AGAIN, ALL OF THE TIRES APPEARED TO BE FINE, WHO EVER I DID NOTICE THAT LEFT REAR PASSENGER TIRE APPEARED TO WOBBLE WHEN I PUSHED ON IT WITH MY FOOT. ASSUMING THAT THE TIRE MIGHT BE LOSE, I PROCEED TO JACK UP THE VEHICLE IN AN EFFORT TO DETERMINE IF THE TIRE WAS POTENTIALLY LOOSE WHAT I DISCOVER, WAS THAT THE TIRE WAS FINE, INSTEAD, THE ENTIRE LEFT ASSEMBLE (TIRE, DISK BRAKE ASSEMBLY AND THE ROTOR) WERE COMING OFF THE CAR? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. HE HAD TO APPLY EXCESSIVE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY PRIOR FAILURES AND THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. ONE YEAR LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BOTTLE WAS FAILING. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIRS COULD NOT BE MADE BECAUSE THE NECESSARY PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD REPAIR THE THROTTLE BODY AT THE COST OF $454. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THE OLD THROTTLE BODY, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE DAYS LATER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED, BUT THE PART WAS STILL ON BACK ORDER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND HE WOULD RECEIVE A CALL FROM THE DEALER IN REFERENCE TO A RENTAL VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A RENTAL VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE SOMEONE COULD BE SERIOUSLY INJURED IF THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND THE CONTACT CONTINUES TO DRIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,950 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,280.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE IN REVERSE, THE CONTACT RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AIR INTAKE AND THROTTLE BODY KIT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED A SECOND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE SAME REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. TWO YEARS AFTER THE SECOND REPAIR, THE FAILURE OCCURRED A THIRD TIME. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
I PURCHASED 2006 FORD FREESTYLE IN APRIL 2007 WITH 16823 MILES. ON AUGUST 9, 2007 I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP WITH AN ACCELERATION PROBLEM WHEN PUT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. DEALERSHIP PERFORMED EEC TEST NO CODES DETECTED. JULY 23, 2008 TOOK THE CAR TO AN AUTO REPAIR THEY FOUND CODES P21068 AND P061B LOOKED UP THE CODES AND GAVE ME INFORMATION FROM FORD ON RECALL FOR THESE CODES THE AUTO REPAIR SUGGESTED I GO BACK TO DEALERSHIP WITH THE RECALL INFO. JULY 28, 2008 TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP WITH SAME ISSUE OF LUNGING DIAGNOSTIC CHECK SHOWED CODE P061B AND P2106. THEY REPLACED VALVE AFTER KEEPING MY CAR FOR 3 WEEKS I HAD TO PAY FOR PART OF THE COST. APRIL 21, 2009 II TOOK CAR BACK WITH AC PROBLEM PAID 611.00 FOR AC CONDENSER LATER FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON AC THAT THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT TELL ME. JUNE 22, 2010 TOOK THE CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME ISSUE WAS TOLD IT WAS THE TROTTLE BODY AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I OWN A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. I HAVE CONTINENTAL CONTI-TOURING CT95 ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRES ON MY CAR. THESE TIRES HAVE NO LASTED NEARLY AS LONG AS EXPECTED (THEY'RE RATED AT 60,000 MILE TIRES). AT 14,000 MILES I HAD 5/32NDS OF TREAD WEAR LEFT. AT 26,000 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES AS THEY WERE COMPLETELY BALD (LESS THAN 2/32NDS OF WEAR LEFT) AND THE TREAD WEAR WARNING BARS WERE SHOWING. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND STATES THE TIRES LAST UNTIL THEY LAST. *TR
