I had a short ABS event, as in the ABS system activated for a few seconds while I was driving. About 3-5 minutes later, I arrived at my destination, and turned off the car. 3 minutes later, I started the car & began to drive, and about 200-300 yards later the car made a warning sound and the majority of the warning lights on the dashboard lit up. I gently applied the brake and found it to be "mushy". I ended up having to apply significant force and push the brake nearly to the floor and the car very slowly decelerated. I parked & turned off the car & checked the brake fluid level which was fine. I saw nothing visibly wrong, so I started the car again and the exact same scenario repeated itself. I was able to park the car again & have it towed to a ford service center. They have confirmed that the ABS system has failed. Because this matches the description of the ABS recall for 2010 Ford Fusions, I believe it is the exact same faulty part and that my car should have been part of the recall. I plan to hold on to the component so it will be available for inspection. Of note, this exact same failure happened to my car once before, in 2015. I had an ABS event, then parked briefly, then my brakes failed in exactly the same manner. However after I stopped the car & parked it overnight that time, the car resumed normal operation. The following day, I took the car to the local ford service center who claimed there were no error codes present and that nothing had gone wrong with the car, which was clearly frustrating and false, but I had no recourse as the error did not repeat at that time.
While driving went to stop and brakes did not work. Put the petal to the floor and all the ABS lights came on. Took it to a brake specialist and they said all the components of the brakes are good but something in the electrical or computer system is causing them to not work. There is a recall on this issue on the non hybrid version of this vehicle. The hybrid needs to be inculded.
Longer than normal brake pedal travel and harder pressure are needed to stop the car. Since it is 122,259 miles, I decided to replace the brakes as a preventative maintenance program. I replaced the rear calipers, all four rotors, all pads, and then had even less brake pedal. I replaced the master cylinder, which still had less brake pedal travel. I towed the car to a local independent mechanic shop, and they also replaced the master cylinder and brake lines, but still no brake pedal. They found evidence of the ABS module being bad and an active warranty for the same year, make, and model and told me to go to the dealer. I called the dealer, and they said there was no recall on my vin, but there is one for other fans of the same year, make, and model. The car will be towed to the Ford dealer, who said they will replace the ABS module, flush the fluid, replace it with a new DOT 4 fluid, and reprogram the controller. They told me to save receipts so that when it gets to be part of the recall, I can try for a refund. Can we do something so that this problem does not kill someone? The brakes go out or fail terribly without warning, and I am thankful I was driving and not my young daughter, who would not have been able to control and stop the car.
Took my vehicle in on 09/01/2023 for the recall # 19S54 ABS HCU Valve Concern. Prior to this, there were no warning signs and my brakes worked fine. My car failed the test. They replaced the part that was recalled. Since then, my car has no brakes. Brakes go to the floor, making it nearly impossible to stop in time or even in an emergency. I do not feel safe driving my vehicle. The dealership has had the car for over two months with no resolution. I need answers.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to respond as needed with the brake pedal depressed. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to contact the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.
All of the ABS and parking brake lights come on and won't go off. We took it to a Henderson Ford, and they said our Anti-Lock Brake Module failure. They have to order a new part and it will be a long time before to get the part. I heard there was a recall on 2010 ABS Brake system, but when I put in VIN number it says there is no recall.
Power Steering Failure- With warning lamps initiated after driving forward. I own a 2010 Ford Fusion with only 58k miles. Never had a problem before- - Incident 1- While getting in the vehicle on a straight path after starting the car and going forward the cars “Power Steering Failure” lamp turns on and there is no turning or moving on the steering wheel other than going forward. The electric power steering completely locks up and you can’t turn the wheel which is a definite safety hazard and can put me in a position where I might have to swerve or move over- Both Safety being stuck on the roadway and being stuck only to go forward and back. - I see there was a recall on 2011 through 2013 Ford Fusions for the Power Steering Electric rack and pinion but not 2010 models. Why is this not on the same recall- I researched the Power Steering replacement and its the same 2010-2013- Same part to change out. I strongly believe since its the same issue as I read others had to replace on the recall that 2010 should be included in this recall based on this is the same electric Power Steering in those recalled models and year. We have to take it to the dealership tomorrow because its an electric power steering issue and they said it wasn’t included in the recall but they know about the problem. The vehicle has to be towed to the dealership and the only movement is forward and reverse when this Power Steering Failure occurs.
After a hard braking incident, my cars brakes are spongy and abs doesn't work anymore.
When driving my brake system (ABS) lit up on the dash and I had to put additional force on the brakes in order to stop. There was no warning that occurred prior to the dash warning coming on. I took the car to Krieger Ford service department and they could not locate any issue with the brake system. They released the car back to me and it remained parked for 3 days. On the 4th day I tried to drive the car and the same alerts happened again. I took the car back to Ford and later they found that the ABS module and applicable parts had failed. When I asked about the recall, the service center said there were no recalls available for my car.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while having routine brake service on the vehicle, the independent mechanic became aware that the brake lines were not bleeding. The contact was informed that the vehicle was experiencing the failure listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and the contact was referred to the dealer for assistance. The dealer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was then referred to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that that the VIN was not included in the recall, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 190,000.
Sudden loss of power steering ability while driving.
The contact’s mother owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to stop in a reasonable amount of time. Additionally, after starting the vehicle and shifting into drive or reverse, when the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to stop as needed. The contact stated that after turning off and restarting the vehicle, the brakes operated as designed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was test driven however, while depressing the brake pedal the vehicle coasted to a stop. The vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the failure could be related to the ABS. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and was concerned for her safety and that she had to prepare to stop the vehicle by placing a hand on the parking brake should the vehicle fail to stop. The ABS warning light was intermittently illuminated. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was included in a recall and advised the contact to call the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 46,000.
Vehicle is not stopping properly. Additional pressure is needed to the brake peddle in addition to pumping the brakes to get it to stop. New brakes and rotors were installed to try and correct the problem but it appears to be related to the NHTSA Campaign 19V904000 ABS Hydraulic Control Units (HCU). The 2010 Fusion was included in the recall buy my VIN for my 2010 Fusion was not included. This seems to be a common issue based on other reports. The recall needs to be expanded to prevent accidents. This is a major safety concern.
Getting check break system, ABS, and service advancetrak on my dash cluster. No codes thrown with OBD reader. Breaks will not fully apply unless I slam them down to the floorboard. Iv seen recalls on over 600,000 fords. I asked ford about my car and they said my specific vin wasn’t showing any recalls but I know there is a recall for this as there are many claims online. My car is unsafe to drive and I would like to get it fixed under recall so I don’t have to go out of pocket for something that seems like a common Ford fusion hybrid issue.
Eps electronic power steering catches and grinds and I've seen recalls on 2010+ fusions and mine have all the same symptoms.
The ABS Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) fails which causes the brake pedal to require more force to stop vehicle. The safety of those driving and pedestrians are at risk due to the added stopping distance. I took my car to a mechanic that my father frequents, and was told that only the dealer could fix it. I than took it in to a Ford dealership and they confirmed the issue but wanted to charge me an insane price. There was no warning or indication of a problem prior to the HCU failure. The fact that only Ford can service the issue doesn't seem right to me, cause they can charge whatever to fix it.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the "Power Steering Assist Fault" message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
I noticed a gasoline smell coming from my car. After taking it in to be examined, it was discovered that the fuel tank had a leak in it - right next to the exhaust pipe. A disaster waiting to happen.
On March 10, 2023, the electrical power steering unit on this vehicle failed. The vehicle was returned to us on March 17, 2023. On March 27, 2023 the power steering again failed on this vehicle after 400 miles of driving. We received the vehicle several days later after the repair. On June 22, 2023, all the lights and warnings for the power steering unit came on again. This time it failed again after 1900 miles of driving. Luckily for us, the steering continued to function as long as the engine was not turned off. Three power steering failures in three months seems to point to a problem with this type steering unit. Had the steering stopped working while driving the vehicle, the chances of having an accident were almost certain. The first failure showed me the steering wheel cannot be turned no matter how much I tried.
While driving I lost steering steering and nearly caused an accident.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. On two separate occasions when we started the vehicle the ABS, traction control, and the brake light warning lights came on. After putting the vehicle in drive and moving forward slowly (less than 10 mph) in a parking lot the dashboard warning lights remained on and the brake pedal was almost completely ineffective when depressed despite being pushed to the floorboard. The vehicle rolled to a stop in one instance and in the other the vehicle was stopped with extreme pressure on the brake and using the emergency brake lever. After the first incident we had the vehicle brakes inspected by an independent mechanic who replaced the brake fluid. After the second incident we brought the vehicle to a Ford dealer who charged $200 to conduct an inspection. This inspection showed the problem to be “code U3000 in the ABS system. Internal failure of the module needs HCU unit and module” repair. Cost estimated to be $4130 and despite this issue being identical to the issue that prompted a recall of other 2010 Fusion Hybrids (NHTSA Campaign ID #19V904000; NHTSA Action #EA18002) the dealer stated that the VIN was not included in the recall and would charge us the full quoted cost to repair an obvious critical, life-threatening safety issue. The failure mileage was 133,700.
While driving the car the brake system failed to respond adequately....it was very loose and required pushing the breaks to the floor to fully stop the vehicle. upon having it towed to the ford dealer they said it was the Master Cylinder and the Hydraulic Control Unit. I then checked for recalls and found that my make and model year had been recalled for the exact problem, but was told that it was VIN specific and that mine was not impacted. As mine was made in the same plant as those in the recall I believe that the recall should have been more wide spread and clearly other vehicles that were made there are having the exact same problems.
Power steering system malfunction. My safety and passenger safety were at risk. The problem has not been confirmed by a Dealer or independent service center. No inspections. There were two others incidents when the power steering system did not engage. The warning light came on displaying "power steering assist fault" message. I read the owners manual and did as instructed. Basically, turn off the car and restart. The steering worked as usual. The recent incident was June 9, 2023. I was trying to back out of the driveway when the warning light came on and the steering wheel would not turn in either direction (left to right). I turned off the car, restarted it and tried to back out again. Warning light came on, again. No movement. I tried again. I couldn't steer as I put the shifter in drive to go forward and backwards. The car is inoperable.
Power Steering Assist not operating causing the steering of the vehicle to not operate and not being able to steer the car. I was lucky to get the car stopped off the highway before crashing the vehicle. I was on the I-95 going 70 mph when the steering locked up. I thought we were going to die! The power steering assist warning came on and I could not steer the car going 70 mph. If this isn't a major safety hazard I don't know what is. Ford Motor Company has many recalls on Ford and Lincoln for this same problem. In fact, a 2011 Ford Fusion has a recall for the power steering assist malfunction. I cannot afford to pay over $2000 to have Ford repair the vehicle, I am a disabled Vet with a very limited income. Now I have a vehicle sitting in my driveway that cannot be driven. Why are many other Ford and Lincoln vehicles with the same power steering assist issues recalled but not the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid with the same steering issues? Check Google, many 2010 Ford Fusion owners are having this issue and Ford Motor Company does nothing to help. Who is responsible if I crash this vehicle, get injured all due to a malfunction that is apparent in many other Fords and Lincolns but just my 2010 Ford Fusion?
In regards to this particular issue surrounding the 2010 Fusion: https://www.vehiclehistory.com/articles/2010-ford-fusion-abs-module-recalls-explained My VIN: [XXX] The recall involves replacing the hydraulic control unit to fully restore the function of the ABS for Fusion assembled up to July of 2009. Mine has the exact issue specified, assembled in the exact same plant in Mexico, but was confirmed to be assembled in April 2010. Because of this my Fusion was excluded from the benefits of a free recall service, and the dealership was charging me $2,836 for the ABS module, hydraulic control unit & labor combined. I've since already purchased the two parts & I'm waiting on the labor to be conducted. Is there any way you guys can work with Ford to expand the recall? I'd LOVE to be reimbursed for this. It seems like an oversight by Ford, and it seems unfair that I have to drop nearly $3,000 on the exact same issue that's free for so many others. I can't stress enough, the issue mentioned in that article is the exact issue I've had, and it was born out of the same plant. Thank you so much for your time! My phone number is [XXX] if you'd like to speak there; you're always welcome to leave a voice if need be. : ) INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the check engine warning light and maintenance service warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the brakes failed to stop the vehicle in a reasonable amount of time without depressing the brake pedal with excessive force. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed and determined that the hydraulic control unit and ABS module needed to be replaced. The contact had another certified mechanic repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The contact was then referred to NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
problems with the ABS not working. taken to a mechanic. Brake master cylinder problem and replaced . leaking rear brake fluid. all causing no brakes.
Traction control system warning along with notification to check advanced break system. Below is the diagnosis from dealership. This matches with known issue for safety recall 19S54. My car was manufactured approximately 20 days after the window for this recall however it is the exact same issue. Dealer would not repair under recall nor Ford as a goodwill repair. DIAGNOSE AND REPLAC HCUY AND HIDRAULIC MODULE CODE B1342
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerked and lunged forward. The contact then stated that while the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle started losing motive power and decelerated. No warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a transmission specialist where the transmission was rebuilt and replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to a transmission specialist where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was out of warranty. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Brake pedal suddenly got "soft" - pedal has to be pressed further before braking begins and requires more pressure for the same amount of braking prior to the issue. Mechanic replaced brake pads and rotors and master cylinder. This did not correct the problem. Rear brake pads/rotors are wearing abnormally fast. Symptoms are consistent with malfunction of the hydraulic control unit for which there is a recall from Ford Motor Company. Although this vehicle model year (2010) is included in the recall period, my VIN number is not included. There are numerous anecdotal stories on search results for this problem where many Ford Fusion owners have the same problem and also are not included in the recall.
Hydrologic control and abs unit failed. Ford addressed the issue but did NOT include ever vin that was affected. Almost got into an accident and crashed when my brakes completely failed from a defective part. The problem has been confirmed by a independent service, no warning light or messages. Many other people with this issue that were not covered by the lackluster recall.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the power steering assist fault message was displayed. The contact stated that while attempting to turn the steering wheel the power steering assist had failed. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle and the power steering regained functionality. The contact stated that the failure had been intermittent but had become a recurring failure. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed and had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH and making a right turn, the vehicle lost power steering assist functionality. The contact stated that the “Service Power Steering” and “Advancetrac” warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the power steering had failed once before and that he had just picked the vehicle up from the dealer when the power steering failed again. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the power steering assist and rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the dealer advised that the diagnostic test had retrieved DTC code: P07AE. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The failure mileage was approximately 166,000.
The Power Steering Assist Fault would occasionally come on and reset itself if I turn the vehicle off then back on. Well, I was with my partner out and about and got in my vehicle, went to start and the message popped up. So I tried restarting the vehicle and it didn't work. I tried multiple times and to no prevail has it reset. Go figure it happened right after I paid the loan off. We had to wait for a tow truck to arrive have it towed home. I checked fuses and wiring and battery voltages when I got home and everything checked out normally. I contacted a Ford dealership and they said with the parts, labor, reprogram and alignment it could be up to around $2,500.00. I don't have this kind of money laying around. Now I don't have a vehicle to get back and forth to work. I've read online about numerous cases of this incident and nothing has come of it yet and that's just really frustrating for a hard working citizen trying to get by. I hope and pray this gets a recall or something ASAP.
Brake pedal goes to the floor , it doesn't want to stop. If you pump it , the pedal comes up. I had them bled and performed the bleeding prosses with scan tool. They worked good for a day.
Loss and extremely tight steering going down the road almost got into accident
"POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE". While driving, the electronic power assist steering [EPAS] failed, causing a loss of vehicle control. The steering wheel suddenly became extremely hard to turn while I was driving.
While driving the power steering went out of the car and it became very difficult to drive luckily I was coming out of the driveway when it went out so no one was hurt
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed and extended to the floorboard and the vehicle failed to immediately stop. The ABS, service brakes, and advancetrac messages were displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the Hydraulic Control Module and ECU had malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 150,000.
The vehicle would randomly loose the ability to stop / brake pedal would loose the ability to control brakes and would go all the way to the floor. After pumping the brakes the vehicle would gain some ability to slow down. Ford Dealer in Gallatin, TN had to replace the brake master cylinder and hydraulic control unit bleed system in order to fix the problem otherwise the car would have been completely unsafe to drive. The scary part was that there were no lights or dash notifications to alert us or the ford dealership that the problem even existed. Also, the car only has 74K miles on it. We put new tires on it last year and got new brake pads the year prior. There seem to be a recall for Ford Fusions for some 2010 models, but ours did not make the list according to the vin number and specs. But I think the problem sounds very similar. Thanks for your help.
Lost turn signal on front of car but have on back air bags or on recall do to Decoty air bags and my steering going down the road went from soft to hard and couldn’t turn my car at all loss of power steering

At parking lot speed, the brake pedal went nearly to floor during stopping. All lights came on the instrument panel. Required the use of emergency brake to bring the car to a stop.
The power steering fault has come on, and this seems to be a known fault for you all yet I have not seen a recall. This is extremely dangerous to ignore.
