IT WAS RAINING HEAVILY AND MY SON AND I WERE ENTERING A HIGHWAY VIA A RAMP AND THE VEHICLE LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND THROTTLE RESPONSE. I MOVED THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS IDLING BUT HAD NOT THROTTLE RESPONSE. STUCK IN THE RAIN ALONG THE SIDE OF ROAD. CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO FORD. DIAGNOSED AS BAD THROTTLE BODY. PART BACK ORDERED FOR DAYS. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
THE MESSAGE CENTER DISPLAYED "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAIL" AND THE POWER STEERING TO MY CAR STOPPED FUNCTIONING. RESEARCH AS TO WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS RESULTED IN NUMEROUS INSTANCES OF THIS FAULT REPORTED BY OTHER FORD OWNERS WITH THE SAME MODEL YEAR AND THE SAME APPROXIMATE MILEAGE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ACKNOWLEDGED BY FORD AND A RECALL BE INITIATED. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON A HEAVILY CONGESTED ROAD AND THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND WAS LIMPING ALONG. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND BE TOWED TO A FORD REPAIR FACILITY. WAS TOLD THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE CAR JUST LOST POWER. I WOULD STEP ON THE GAS AND IT WOULD JUST BARELY MOVE. I HAD TO COAST TO A SIDE ROAD. I TURNED IT OFF AND THEN STARTED IT BACK UP. IT WENT A COUPLE OF BLOCKS AND DID THE SAME THING. THEN TRIED IT AGAIN AND IT WOULD NOT STAY RUNNING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATE. 65 MPH ON 27JUN13, AT 1745, THE 2011 FORD FUSION SEL LOST ALL ACCELERATION. WE PULLED OVER TO THE RIGHT HAND SHOULDER, PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND TURNED IT OFF. WE WAITED A MOMENT, RESTARTED THEN ENGINE, AND PROCEEDED TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC. LESS THAN TWO MILES LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. WE PULLED OVER AGAIN, TURNED OFF ENGINE AND WAITED A MOMENT. WE RESTARTED IT AND DROVE IT HOME. FRIDAY 5 JUL13 THE CAR WENT TO KOLWASKI FORD IN AVON LAKE OH. THE REPROGRAMMED THE PCM FOR THE ROUGH SHIFT OF THE TRANSMISSION. WE PICKED UP THE CAR, AND LESS THAN 4 MILES FROM THE DEALS HIP WE HAD THE REPAIRS DONE, WE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE OF LOST ACCELERATION. WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND ADVISED THE SAME ENGINE FAILURE OCCURRED. WHILE DRIVING BACK TO THE DEALERSHIPS, THE ENGINE ONCE AGAIN LOST POWER AT AN INTERSECTION. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE SERVICE CENTER OF KOLWASKI FORD IN AVON LAKE OH. *TR
1ST INCIDENT: I WAS WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR AT A RED LIGHT, WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED TO GREEN I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL TO MOVE FORWARD THE CAR STARTED JERKING AND SHAKING THEN ALL THE POWER WAS LOST TO THE CAR. THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ALSO ON. I TURNED THE KEY OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES TURN THE KEY AGAIN AND CAR STARTED AND DROVE FINE FROM THERE. 2ND INCIDENT: MY HUSBAND STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN WITH MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR, PROCEEDED FORWARD AND THE CAR BEGAN TO LOOSE POWER AND JERKING AND SHAKING, WE ONLY MADE IT ACROSS THE INTERSECTION BECAUSE WE DRIFTED. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. HE TURNED THE KEY OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, TURNED THE KEY AND CAR STARTED AND DROVE OKAY FROM THERE. 3RD INCIDENT: MYSELF WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN I PROCEEDED TO TURN AND GO FORWARD THE CAR BEGAN LOOSING POWER, THEN STARTED JERKING AND SHAKING AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I TURNED THE KEY OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND STARTED IT BACK UP AND WENT OK FROM THERE. TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM THAT NEEDED $771.00 IN REPAIR. IT IS PAST THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED FROM THE DEALER, PAST THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY DATE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND CONCERN THAT SHOULD WARRANT A RECALL. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY BETWEEN 65-70MPH THE GAS PEDDLE STOPPED WORKING, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH BOARD AND I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT BUT DID HAVE TO PUMP THE GAS A TIME OR 2 TO GET IT STARTED. ENGINE LIGHTS WENT OUT. THIS SAME THING HAPPENED 7 TIMES IN WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A 1HR 45 MIN TRIP. I PULLED INTO A FORD DEALER ALONG THE HIGHWAY AND THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS FOR ME AND CAME UP WITH THE THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. I ONLY HAD 3 EPISODES ON THE WAY HOME. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING VEHICLE AT ABOUT 65 MPH IN MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. WHILE TRAVELING YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN WHILE TRAVELING IN THE FAR LEFT LANE (FAST LANE). HAD TO SAFELY GET THE CAR TO SIDE OF THE ROAD AS IT COASTED WHILE TRAFFIC STILL MAINTAINED THEIR NORMAL SPEED. AFTER REMOVING KEY AND LETTING VEHICLE SIT FOR A COUPLE MINUTES, PUT KEY BACK IN IGNITION AND STARTED THE VEHICLE BACK UP. PROCEEDED WITH NO ISSUES. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 7/1/2013. WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE NO CODES AND COULD NOT GET VEHICLE TO PERFORM OUR STATED ISSUE. WAS TOLD IT MAY BE THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT THEY WOULD ORDER ONE (WE ARE LOOKING AT THE MINIMUM A TWO WEEK WAIT). AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE WERE NO CODES FOR THEM TO GO OFF OF. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT OUR EXTENDED SERVICE CONTRACT DOES NOT COVER THIS AND THAT WE WOULD BE LOOKING AT AROUND A $400.00 REPAIR. IF WE WOULD OF HAD PREFERRED SERVICE PLAN THAT IT WOULD OF BEEN COVERED (IMAGINE THAT!). SO TODAY MY WIFE CALLS ME AGAIN TO TELL ME SHE IS ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE THE ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN! AND ON TOP OF THIS ISSUE SHE NOW HAD A FLAT TIRE PROBABLY DUE TO HAVING TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. WE MET UP AND CHANGED VEHICLES. I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO WORK, BUT NEVER MADE IT DUE TO THE VEHICLE NOT WANTING TO OPERATE AND YELLOW WRENCH COMING ON ALONG WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. HAD VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY OFFERED A LOANER CAR WHILE WE WAIT FOR PART TO ARRIVE WITH NO ESTIMATED ETA? A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN THAT FORD SEEMS TO NOT CARE ABOUT AND HAS A CASUAL "WE WILL GET TO IT, WHEN WE GET TO IT" MENTALITY"!?!? *TR
MY POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS NOW. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS JUNE 26. I HAD PARKED THE CAR (PULLED OVER BECAUSE OF A BAD RAIN STORM). WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR AND STARTED TO PULL OUT OF THE PARKING PLACE, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST DEFAULT LIGHT CAME ON AND IT BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER THE CAR. I PULLED OVER AGAIN, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AND WHEN I RESTARTED IT, THE DEFAULT LIGHT WAS OFF AND IT WAS FINE. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED ON JUNE 28. AGAIN, IT HAPPENED WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. I WAS PARALLEL PARKED AND WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST DEFAULT LIGHT CAME ON AND THE STEERING WAS AGAIN VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, RESTARTED AND IT WAS FINE. THE THIRD INCIDENT OCCURRED TODAY, 7/4/2013, AND THIS TIME IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING ASSIST DEFAULT LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF OF THE HIGHWAY SAFELY. I TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AND ONCE AGAIN, IT WAS FINE. HOWEVER, TO JUST SUDDENLY LOSE THE CAPABILITY TO STEER IS QUITE TERRIFYING AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY ON A HIGHWAY. SINCE THIS HAS HAPPENED, I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND THIS POWER STEERING ASSIST DEFAULT SEEMS TO BE QUITE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD FUSION OWNERS- ESPECIALLY 2010-2012 MODELS. FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE BEFORE THERE IS A REALLY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I'VE ONLY MADE A FEW PAYMENTS ON MY CAR AND I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE IT- IT IS NOT SAFE!! *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC GOING ABOUT 40-45 MILES PER HOUR MY CAR ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I LOOKED DOWN AT THE DASH AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON. I MANAGED TO COAST OUT OF THE TRAFFIC AND GET TO A SAFE SPOT. I TRIED TO CALL DEALER BUT THEY WERE NOT OPEN YET. I SAT WITH CAR STILL RUNNING FOR A FEW MINUTES TO SEE IF IT WOULD SHIFT INTO GEAR BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. ENGINE STILL RUNNING BUT WHEN GAS PEDAL WAS PUSHED NOTHING HAPPENED. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE CAR JUST SLOWS DOWN WITH NO WARNING AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. NOT SURE WHAT I SHOULD DO AT THIS TIME SO, I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. IT SEEMED TO BE WORKING, SO I STARTED BACK ON THE ROAD ONLY TO HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN AND IT MANAGED TO GET ME TO WORK. I HAVE NOT GONE TO THE DEALER AS OF YET BUT IT APPEARS THAT THE FUSIONS ARE HAVING A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. IF I GO TO THE DEALER AND THE CAR IS NOT ACTING UP, I WILL BE PAYING FOR THEM TO TELL ME THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. ACCORDING TO THE COMPLAINTS THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND I LOST POWER- I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE, CAR STALLED CAUSING CARS BEHIND ME TO SWERVE OFF ROAD TO AVOID HITTING MY CAR. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR AND THERE IS A NATIONWIDE SHORTAGE OF PARTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER AS THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,250 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,344. *TR
I TURNED ON MY CAR. THE POWERING STEERING ASSIST FAULT LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WAS HARD TO TURN. I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN. THE LIGHT WAS STILL THERE. *TR
I TRADED IN MY MERCEDES FOR A 2011 FORD FUSION WITH FFV TO BUY AMERICAN. EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL UP TO THE POINT THAT THE CAR STALLED & SURGES AT 60 MPH ON THE FREEWAY. I LIMPED INTO THE FREEWAY SHOULDER AND STOPPED THE CAR. MY FAMILY HAS NEVER BEEN IN THIS VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION BEFORE. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT A CAR WITH 30,000 MILES WILL HAVE THIS KIND OF A PROBLEM. I THINK FORD STILL HAS A PROBLEM WITH RELIABILITY. I'M GOING BACK TO GERMAN CARS. *TR
6 TIMES IN THE PAST 9 DAYS, THE FORD FUSION HAS BEEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS (25 MPH TO 65 MPH) AND SUDDENLY A "WRENCH" WARNING LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH, AND SIMULTANEOUSLY THE CAR SEEMS TO LOSE ALL POWER TO THE WHEELS. DEPRESSING THE PEDAL DOESN'T RESULT IN ANY ACCELERATION OR TO MAINTAIN SPEED, BUT THE RPM'S DON'T INCREASE EITHER. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE. IN ONE OF THE INCIDENTS THE CAR WAS IN THE LEFT HAND LANE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY, TRAVELING AT 65 MPH, AND HAD TO BE GUIDED OVER ONTO THE LEFT MEDIAN AS IT DECELERATED WITH TRAFFIC PILING UP BEHIND. THE CAR CAN ALWAYS BE TURNED OFF, THEN RE-STARTED, PUT BACK IN DRIVE, AND THEN FUNCTIONS NORMALLY. THIS SEEMS TO BE THE SAME THROTTLE BODY ISSUE THAT IS WIDELY REPORTED ON FORD FUSION FORUM WEBSITES. THE CAR WAS BOUGHT USED, BUT HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR ALMOST 1 YEAR AND 9,000 MILES AND THIS ISSUE HAD NEVER APPEARED BEFORE 9 DAYS AGO. *TR
WHILE TAKING A FREEWAY EXIT RAMP, AN ALERT POPPED UP ON MY DASHBOARD AND MY STEERING IMMEDIATELY BECAME LABORED. I WASN'T DOING ANYTHING UNUSUAL AT THE TIME, SO MY IMMEDIATE ASSUMPTION WAS THAT I HAD A FLAT TIRE. I BEGAN TO SLOW AS I NEARED THE EXIT RAMP, AND AT THIS POINT MY DASHBOARD SHOWED A "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" ERROR AND A "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" ERROR MESSAGE, WHICH RESULTED IN THE LOSS OF ALL POWER STEERING. AT THIS POINT I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND INTO A PARKING LOT, SHUT OFF MY CAR, AND LET IT REST FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES WHILE I READ THE FORD OWNER GUIDE FOR MORE INFORMATION. AFTER INSPECTING THE ENGINE AND FINDING NOTHING UNUSUAL, I STARTED THE CAR AND THE POWER STEERING HAD RETURNED. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE AGAIN AND IT HAS BEEN 24 HOURS, BUT I'M STILL WEARY OF TRAVELING AT HIGHER SPEEDS LEST MY POWER STEERING SUDDENLY FAIL AGAIN. *TR
ON JUNE 23, 2013, I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND IN THE PROCESS OF TURNING RIGHT WHEN I ACCELERATED MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND WOULDN'T GO ANY FASTER THAN 2 MPH AND A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASH. I PULLED INTO A DRIVEWAY THAT WAS CLOSE BUT I WAS ON A BUSY STREET. I DIDN'T WANT TO TURN THE CAR OFF BEING AFRAID THAT IT WOULD NOT START BACK UP SO I BACKED OUT AND ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE HOME BECAUSE I WAS VERY CLOSE TO MY HOME. I BACKED OUT AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME GOING THIS SAME SPEED...AT TIMES THE CAR WOULD ACT LIKE IT WANTED TO ACCELERATE BUT NEVER DID. WHEN I MADE IT HOME I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND OUT OF CURIOSITY TURNED IT BACK ON TO SEE IF IT WOULD START AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP AND THE WRENCH WAS GONE. I THEN DROVE IT AROUND MY NEIGHBORHOOD TO SEE IF IT WOULD DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT IT DIDN'T. ON THE NEXT DAY, I ASKED SOMEONE TO FOLLOW ME AS I DROVE THE CAR DOWN A BUSY HIGHWAY, STILL TRYING TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM WOULD DUPLICATE AND IT WOULD NOT. ON YESTERDAY, JUNE 29, 2013, I WAS OUT DRIVING GOING ABOUT 35 MPH AND THE SAME ISSUE DESCRIBED ABOVE HAPPENED (2 MORE TIMES) AND EACH TIME I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT WAS FINE. I JUST PURCHASED MY CAR USED FROM A REPUTABLE DEALERSHIP ON FEB 25, 2013 AND IT HAD 59,000 MILES ON IT WHEN I PURCHASED IT SO IT'S NO LONGER UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY AND I DIDN'T PURCHASE AND EXTENDED WARRANTY. TODAY I JUST HAPPENED TO SEARCH TO SEE IF OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR FORD AND SAW A # OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS AND TRULY HOPE THAT FORD RECALLS THE VEHICLES FOR THIS AND I NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE CLEARLY THIS IS AN ISSUE BEYOND THE CONSUMERS CONTROL. *TR
I WAS LEAVING A SHOPPING CENTER AND HAD TO A STOP TO YIELD TO TRAFFIC. WHEN I PLACED MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, I NOTICED THAT THE CAR SEEMED TO HAVE LOST POWER. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE10 MPH. I ALSO FELT THE CAR SHAKING VIOLENTLY. THE CHECK ENGINE AND MECHANIC'S WRENCH WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD ILLUMINATED. I PULLED TO A STOP AT THE GAS STATION, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND RE-STARTED THE VEHICLE. AFTERWARDS, THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WERE NO LONGER ILLUMINATED, AND THE CAR SEEMED TO RETURN TO NORMAL. A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD (ON A HIGHWAY WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 50 MPH), I CAME TO A STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. ONCE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE BUT FOUND THAT MY CAR HAD LOST POWER ONCE AGAIN AND COULD HARDLY MOVE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED AGAIN. I WAS STUCK IN THE LEFT LANE OF THE ROAD WITH NO SHOULDER TO PULL ONTO--A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN. THEN, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR NORMALLY A FEW MILES TO MY HOME. HOWEVER, THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP BECAUSE I CONSIDERED IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE SHOP INFORMED ME THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PART WAS ON NATIONAL BACK-ORDER FOR OVER A WEEK. . CLEARLY, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR FORD FUSIONS. CONSIDERING THE SAFETY RISKS, I AM VERY SURPRISED THAT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY AT A SPEED OF 55 MPH. THE WRENCH (MECHANICAL) WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE RPMS DROPPED. I STEERED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. I PARKED THE VEHICLE AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED AND DECREASED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT IDLE. I HAVE DROPPED OFF THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO GET THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED. I HAD ANOTHER ISSUE ON OR ABOUT 16 MAY 2013. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON A FOUR LANE ROAD IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT A SPEED OF 45 MPH. I WAS ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE UP HILL. THE RPMS ON THE ENGINE SURGED AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO ABOUT 65 MPH. THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTINUED TO INCREASE. I QUICKLY REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR. THE RPMS DID NOT DECREASE WHEN I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR. I HAD TO BRAKE WITH MY LEFT FOOT AND TAP ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITH MY RIGHT FOOT IN ORDER TO GET THE ACCELERATOR UNSTUCK. I ALMOST REAR ENDED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE AND WAS LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO GET THE ACCELERATOR UNSTUCK BEFORE I REACHED A RED LIGHT AND WOULD NOT BEEN ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO DRIVE FINE WITHOUT FURTHER INSTANCES UNTIL TODAY. *TR
I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK FRIDAY, 6/21/13, TRAVELING AT 65MPH AND LOST ALL POWER/ACCELERATION IN CENTER LANE ON FREEWAY. UNFORTUNATELY, I HAD TO CROSS TWO LANES OF HEAVY TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER, WHILE LOSING POWER. AN AMBER WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON ALONG WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT. I PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL, AND PUT PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL - NO RPM'S, NO POWER - AT THIS MOMENT THE ENGINE BEGINS TO SPUTTER AND SHAKE AND I CANNOT KEEP THE CAR RUNNING. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES. I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, NO DASH INDICATOR LIGHTS, AND THE ENGINE ACTED NORMAL WHEN I PUT PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. GAS DELIVERY AND RPM'S SEEMED APPROPRIATE. I ENTERED FREEWAY AGAIN AND APPROXIMATELY 1.5 MILES LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. AMBER WRENCH ON AND NO POWER. AGAIN, THE ENGINE IS RUNNING VERY ROUGH AND THEN STALLS. I AM NEAR MY DEALERSHIP, SO IT TAKES TWO MORE ATTEMPTS, BEFORE I MAKE IT THERE. NOW, IT GETS BETTER. I AM INFORMED THAT IT IS MY THROTTLE BODY AND THERE ARE 2000 PARTS ON BACKORDER FROM MICHIGAN. IT COULD BE ONE WEEK, MAYBE WEDNESDAY, 6/26/13, AND I WOULD BE ON A WAITING LIST WITH 8 OTHER PEOPLE. WHAT!!!!! WENT BACK THE NEXT MORNING, SATURDAY, 6/22/13, AND WAS GIVEN AN UPDATE. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IT COULD BE UP TO TWO WEEKS FOR REPAIR AT OVER $500. I QUICKLY RESEARCH THIS ISSUE, AND FIND MANY OWNERS OF ALL DIFFERENT FORD MODELS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. SOME ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE UNDER WARRANTY. THIS SEEMS TO BE A DEFECTIVE PART AND AS A LOYAL CONSUMER TO FORD - THE COMPANY NEEDS TO DO RIGHT BY ITS CUSTOMERS. 2011 FUSION W/ 3.0 LITER 6CYL. WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH THE ENGINE SUDDENLY BOGGED DOWN. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TRIED THE GAS PEDAL AGAIN WITH NO RESPONSE. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, WAITED A FEW SECONDS, THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME, THEN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WITH NO INCIDENT. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. FORD WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH CAR WAS JUST OVER THE WARRANTY MILEAGE LIMIT. I FOUND OUT THAT THE NHTSA STARTED AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS ISSUE IN FEBRUARY 2013 AND FORD IS AWARE OF THE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM. I WAS LUCKY NO TRUCK WAS BEHIND ME SINCE MY CAR SLOWED QUICKLY AND SUDDENLY WITH NO WARNING. THE INTERNET IS FILLED WITH COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE. AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALL THROTTLE RESPONSE, THE CAR WAS DRIVEN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND IGNITION TURNED OFF. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED AND WAS DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES. ON THE WAY TO A FORD DEALER WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF A U-TURN THE THROTTLE RESPONSE WAS AGAIN LOST, THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF AND THE CAR AGAIN STARTED NORMALLY......FORD DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY WHICH THEY DID NOT HAVE AND HAD TO BE ORDERED. *TR
I WAS ACCELERATING FROM STOP LIGHT. ATTEMPTING TO REACH 55 MPH ONLY GOT TO ABOUT 45-50 MPH..I THEN LOST THROTTLE RESPONSE(NO ACCELERATION). WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON. COASTED TO THE SIDE OF HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE IDLED A LITTLE ROUGH. VERY LOW RPM. PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TRIED TO REV THE ENGINE. NO RESPONSE,ONLY IDLE, LOW RPM.THEN I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, WAITED ABOUT A MINUTE AND RESTARTED IT. NO MORE WRENCH LIGHT ICON. NO PROBLEMS THE REST OF THE DAY. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER TO TEST FOR CODES,NO CODES WERE FOUND. WAS TOLD TO BRING THE CAR IN WHEN WRENCH ICON IS ON TO TEST FOR CODE. I ONLY HAVE THIS ONE CAR SO I'M DRIVING IT EVERY DAY, BUT I WON'T DRIVE OVER 40 MPH UNTIL THE THROTTLE IS REPLACED. *TR
WAS STOPPED AT RED LIGHT IN RIGHT TURN LANE . LIGHT CHANGED AND I STARTED FORWARD THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND LIGHTS AND BUZZERS WENT OFF THERE WAS NO ONE STOPPED AT LIGHT IN OTHER LANE SO I WAS ABLE TO STEER SAFELY TO RIGHT AND CLEAR TRAFFIC. TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE ADVANCETRAC LIGHT CAME ON AND SYSTEM CHIMED. MESSAGE CENTER DISPLAYED SERVICE ADVANCETRAC AND POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT, I LOST ALL POWER STEERING, THE VEHICLE BECAME VERY HARD TO CONTROL. UPON TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN POWER STEERING. BRINGING VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP TODAY FOR INVESTIGATION. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN THE HIGH-SPEED LANE ON RT. 3N IN PLYMOUTH,MA WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAD NO POWER COMING FROM THE GAS PEDAL. LUCKILY THE TRAFFIC WAS NOT HEAVY AT THE TIME AND THERE WAS ENOUGH MOMENTUM FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO STEER THE CAR TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. AS I WAS COASTING TO THE ROADSIDE THE WRENCH SYMBOL LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. MY PASSENGER AND I WERE ABLE TO COME AWAY FROM THIS DANGEROUS INCIDENT SHAKEN BUT UNSCATHED. AFTER THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY ELECTRICAL THROTTLE BODY IN A TWO YEAR OLD CAR WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES. AFTER FIVE DAYS I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE CAR TO BE FIXED, BECAUSE THE PART IS BACKORDERED. BY LOOKING ON THE INTERNET I NOW KNOW WHY THE PART IS BACKORDERED. TRIED AGAIN AND DROVE 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD AND IT STALLED OUT AGAIN. PUT IN PARK, PUT IN DRIVE AND ALL IT DID WAS ROLL BACKWARDS. ON MY WAY HOME ON A 5 LANE ROAD, I WAS CRUISING AT ABOUT 45 MPH IN FAIRLY HEAVY TRAFFIC AND EXPERIENCED THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. WITHOUT WARNING, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD NO THROTTLE RESPONSE WHATSOEVER AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE WAS ON AN INCLINE WHICH MADE IT EVEN HARDER TO GET PULLED OVER AS I LOST SPEED QUICKLY. I TURNED ONTO A SIDE STREET, BARELY AVOIDING A REAR END COLLISION. MY CAR SLOWED TO A CRAWL AND I PROCEEDED TO PUT IT INTO PARK AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE. AFTER RE-STARTING THE ENGINE, THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS GONE AND THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED (55-65MPH) WHEN MY CARS GAS PEDAL HAD NO RESPONSE. I HAD TO CUT ACROSS THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT ALL WITHOUT ACCELERATION ABILITY. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND CONTINUE DRIVING ONLY TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN AGAIN THE NEXT DAY. IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE THROTTLE BODY IN MY 2011 FORD FUSION. P2111 AND P2112 SEEM TO BE A FAULTY PART. WHILE GOING 75 MPH IN THE FAST LANE OF A 4-LANE HIGHWAY SUNDAY AFTERNOON, THE CAR SHIFTED HARD, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. AS THE CAR SLOWED, IT BEGAN LURCHING BACK AND FORTH. WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD INTO A PARKING LOT AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO LURCH AFTER IT WAS PUT IN PARK. I TURNED CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON. THE STARTER TURNED OVER SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE CARE STARTED BACK UP, BUT CAR MADE IT THE FINAL 25 MILES HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. SAME MANIFESTATION OF THE ISSUE TUESDAY EVENING ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK GOING ABOUT 25 MPH IN TRAFFIC. SAME RECOVERY. ON MY WAY TO AN OFFSITE WORK MEETING ON THURSDAY I WAS GOING ~45 MPH WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. WHEN I RETURNED FROM THE MEETING 45 MINUTES LATER, THE CAR HAD THE SAME ISSUE AT ~50 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, BUT THAT THERE ARE NONE AVAILABLE IN THE USA RIGHT NOW AND THAT THERE IS A 3-4 WEEK BACK ORDER. THOUGH THEY SEEM TO BE REPLACING A LOT OF THROTTLE BODIES, FORD CONTENDS THAT THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM. *TR

AFTER 10 MILES THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN AND NEARLY ANOTHER BRUSH WITH DEATH/ACCIDENT, I GOT OFF THE FREEWAY AND DROVE SLOWLY ALL THE WAY HOME WHICH IT DIED 2 MORE TIMES. *TR

THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW WEEKS LATER SO I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP, SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO TOLD ME THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IT WAS IF THE VEHICLE DIDN'T STORE A CODE THAT IT WOULD BE BEST FOR ME TO BRING IT IN ONCE THE WARNING LIGHT STAYED ON AND IT WOULDN'T RESET ITSELF. HE TOLD ME THIS BECAUSE A FEW WEEKS PRIOR SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT AND WHEN I TOOK IT IN THE VEHICLE DIDN'T STORE A CODE.. THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR A WEEK AND COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT. I HAD TO PAY TO GET MY VEHICLE BACK. NO WORK WAS PERFORMED 2 DAYS LATER SAME ISSUE, I HAVE SINCE FIXED THE WRENCH LIGHT ISSUE AND UNABLE TO PAY FOR THE POWER STEERING ISSUE. EMERGENCY PULL OFF RAMPS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY EVERY 2-3 MILES ALONG CONSTRUCTION. TRAVELING DURING RUSH HOUR IN AM, PRESSED ACCELERATOR AND RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. WRENCH LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED HOWEVER CAR CONTINUED TO RUN JUST WITH NO POWER (LATER LEARNED THAT THIS IS WHAT FORD CALLS "LIMP MODE"). HAD JUST PASSED AND EMERGENCY PULL-OFF WHEN THIS HAPPENED SO HAD TO DRIVE AT VERY LOW SPEED (APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES PER HOUR) TO GET TO NEXT EMERGENCY PULL OFF 2 MILES AHEAD. VERY, VERY UNSAFE AS I WAS BLOCKING TRAFFIC ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITH NO SHOULDER (JERSEY BARRIERS ON BOTH SIDES OF 2-LANE HIGHWAY). MANAGED TO "LIMP" TO EMERGENCY PULL OFF WITHOUT BEING HIT FROM BEHIND. VEHICLE TOWED TO FORD DEALER AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING A THROTTLE BODY (KNOWN FORD PROBLEM FOR 2011 FORD FUSION VEHICLES). ...IF FORD IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, WHY NO RECALL? WAS DRIVING 65 WHEN THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE GAS PEDAL WENT DEAD. GOT PULLED OVER AND CAR WAS IDLING VERY ROUGH. TURNED OFF FOR 2 MINUTES AND AFTER A HARD START THE CAR RAN NORMAL AGAIN. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN THAT EVENING AS I WAS JUST PULLING OUT MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS TOTALLY UNAWARE OF THIS PROBLEM UNTIL I READ ABOUT ALL THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEB SITE. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALERSHIP AND GUESS WHAT, BAD THROTTLE BODY!!!! MY DEALERSHIP IS PRETTY GOOD AND THEY FIXED ME UP IN A RENTAL LOANER CAR WHILE THEY WAITED FOR 5 DAYS TO GET THE NEW PART. I'VE HAD MY FUSION BACK FOR 10 DAYS NOW AND ITS BEEN GOOD AND ACTUALLY FEELS A LITTLE MORE RESPONSIVE. A FRIEND OF MINE SUGGESTED A CALL FORD'S CONSUMER'S HOTLINE 800-392-3673 WHICH I CALLED A WEEK AGO AND FORD GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER. I TOLD THE REP I THOUGHT FORD SHOULD AT LEAST GIVE ME SOME CREDIT FOR THE REPAIR WITH THE THROTTLE BODY HISTORY AND THEY SHOULD STEP UP AND DO A RECALL ON THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. FORD SAID THEY WOULD CALL ME IN 4 BUSINESS DAYS. THAT WAS A WEEK AGO, DIDN'T HEAR A WORD SO I CALLED THEM AGAIN TODAY ABOUT MY CASE. THEY SAID THEY CHECKED WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD ALREADY GIVEN ME A DISCOUNT BY ONLY CHARGING ME $500 ON A $900 REPAIR. AMAZING I WAS QUOTED $500 FOR THE REPAIR THE DAY I BROUGHT IT IN. I TOLD HER THAT MY LAST 4 VEHICLE PURCHASES WERE NEW FORDS AND I'M SEEING AN END COMING TO OUR RELATIONSHIP IF THEY FAILED TO ACT ON THIS THROTTLE BODY THING. MY IMPRESSION IS THAT FORD IS IN COMPLETE DENIAL AND IF THEY DON'T THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE I SUGGEST THAT THEY SHOULD EXPERIENCE IT ON THE INTERSTATE IN THE CENTER LANE DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STARTED HER VEHICLE AND THE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" WARNING ALERT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
INCIDENT#1: TRAVELING ON FREEWAY FAST LANE AT AROUND 65 MPH, ENGINE APPEARED TO CUT OUT FOR NO APPARENT REASON. LOST ALL POWER, BUT RADIO STILL ON. PUT ON EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO GET ALL THE WAY OVER TO EMERGENCY LANE. TURNED OFF IGNITION, TOOK OUT KEY, TURNED CAR BACK ON, AND EVERYTHING STARTED NORMALLY. WAS ABLE TO GET BACK HOME WITHOUT ANY OTHER PROBLEM. INCIDENT#2: PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN AT AROUND 5 MPH AFTER HAVING DRIVEN ONLY ABOUT A MILE FROM HOME. ENGINE CUT OUT AGAIN AS I WAS ACCELERATING. PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF CAR, REMOVED KEY FROM IGNITION, STARTED CAR AGAIN AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. FORTUNATELY, I HAVE BEEN ALONE IN THE CAR WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED, BUT I HAVE TWO CHILDREN UNDER 4 WHOM I TRANSPORT OFTEN. IT SEEMS LIKE ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE I'M IN A MORE SERIOUS SITUATION AND THIS HAPPENS AGAIN (SUCH AS TURNING LEFT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR). BASED ON MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE AND ACTUAL PERSONAL ACCOUNTS OF OTHER FORD FUSION OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, IT SEEMS OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. DRIVERS INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE NO LONGER OPENS DRIVERS DOOR FROM INSIDE. THIS COULD BE FATAL IN CASE OF FIRE OR IMMERSION DUE TO BEING UNABLE TO ESCAPE IF ELECTRIC WINDOW INOPERABLE. *TR

ON JUNE 10, 2013 I WAS DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET AND STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION. I WENT TO ACCELERATE TO ADVANCE INTO THE INTERSECTION AND IT WAS AS IF I HAD LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE WRENCH WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND STARTED IT AND IT SEEMED FINE. A FEW WEEKS LATER,AROUND JULY 18TH, I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I LIMPED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND IT STARTED FINE. ON AUGUST 9 I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE SLOWER SPEED LANE AND I FELT THE CAR HESITATE. IT WAS AS IF THE ENGINE WASN'T GETTING ANY GAS. THE CAR HAD ONLY ENOUGH POWER TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSE BY SO WE BROUGHT THE CAR THERE. WE WERE TOLD IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY AND AIR BYPASS AND THAT THE PART IS ON BACKORDER AND THEY CAN'T ESTIMATE WHEN THE PART WILL BE IN. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE RECALLED. I SPOKE TO MY COMPANY'S FLEET MGR. AND SHE SAID THIS WAS THE THIRD FAILURE THIS MONTH. *TR
