CPSC#I11C0447A. 2011 FORD FUSION RENTAL. CONSUMER STATED THAT WHEN CAR WAS SHIFTED INTO GEAR THERE WERE NO LIGHTS AT ALL AT THE REAR OF THE CAR. *LN
THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED ON JUNE 27,2011. ON DECEMBER 3, THE ON BOARD NAVIGATION SYSTEM WAS USED FOR THE FIRST TIME. IF I WAS AWARE OF THE ROAD INTERSTATE 84 THAT I WAS TRAVELING, IF I HAD NOT KNOW INTERSTATE 84 THE ON BOARD SYSTEM WOULD HAVE HAD ME MAKE A TURN WHERE THERE WAS NONE. AFTER A RETURN TO THE DEALER, A CALL TO FORD AND A CALL TO THE MANUFACTURE OF THE SYSTEM THAT FORD IS INSTALLING ALL THREE INSIST IT IS UP TO DATE. THIS DEFECT IS GOING TO LEAD TO FATALITY IF SOMEONE DOES FOLLOW THE ON BOARD NAVIGATION SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM ALSO COULD NOT FIND THE ADDRESS OF MY DESTINATION. I CHECKED WITH THE ESTABLISHMENT THAT I WAS GOING TO AND THEY SAID THAT THEIR ADDRESS WAS CHANGED FIVE YEARS AGO. THERE I BELIEVE THAT THE SYSTEM THAT FORD IS SELLING IS MANY YEARS OUT OF DATE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V574000 (WHEELS:LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS), BUT THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE NECESSARY PARTS TO PERFORM THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT STATED THAT THE PARTS WOULD NOT BE SHIPPED TO THAT DEALER LOCATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 40,000. UPDATED 02/29/12
BRAKES ALWAYS NEED TO BE PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR TO STOP SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED
I HAD JUST PURCHASED MY 2011 FORD FUSION JUST OVER A MONTH WHEN I ENCOUNTERED MY FIRST STALL ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK. I WAS FULLY STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION WAITING FOR THE STOP LIGHT TO TURN GREEN. I PRESSED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR ONLY TO REALIZE THE ENGINE WAS NO LONGER RUNNING. THE CAR BEHIND ME BUMPED INTO MY BACK BUMPER ANTICIPATING I WOULD BE ACCELERATING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THERE WAS NOTHING ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING THE ENGINE HAD DIED. I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO START NORMALLY. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS UNTIL ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER IN JUNE 2012. THE SECOND TIME, I WAS TURNING RIGHT INTO A PARKING LOT AND AS I MADE THE TURN AND PRESSED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR I DISCOVERED THE CAR WAS COASTING WITH THE ENGINE DEAD AND THE DASHBOARD CONSOLE LIT UP AS IF EVERYTHING WAS STILL RUNNING NORMALLY. AGAIN, I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND THE ENGINE STARTED IMMEDIATELY AND EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO NORMAL AGAIN. THE THIRD TIME JUST HAPPENED IN FEBRUARY 2013 WHEN I AGAIN WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PRESSED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR ONLY TO DISCOVER THE ENGINE WAS NO LONGER RUNNING AND NO INDICATION ON THE DASHBOARD ANYTHING WAS WRONG. I DID THE SAME THING AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND THE ENGINE STARTED AND EVERYTHING RETURNED TO NORMAL. FOR THE FIRST 2 TIMES, THE FORD DEALERSHIP JUST SHRUGGED THEIR SHOULDERS AND SAID THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THEY COULD DO IF THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE 3RD TIME, THEY DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE BASED ON A BULLETIN FROM FORD THE COMPUTER WASN'T POSSIBLY SHIFTING AT THE PROPER TIMES WHICH COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL. SO NOW I HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE IF THE SOFTWARE UPDATE REALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM OR I WILL HAVE THE PLEASURE OF EXPERIENCING ANOTHER SUDDEN SURPRISE OF HAVING A ZOMBIE CAR THAT APPEARS TO BE ALIVE BUT ISN'T. *TR
I HAVE 2011 FORD FUSION , IT HAS HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES SINCE I GOT THE CAR , BUT EVERYTIME I TURN IT OFF IT WOULD RESET ITSELF , BUT YESTERDAY I WAS GOING TO MY NIECES HOUSE AND I WAS IN A TURN AND POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND IT WAS HARD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE BEEN READING HOW THERE BEEN A LOT PEOPLE BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE BEEN HAVING. I DON'T KNOW WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL TO GET THIS FIX . *TR
AS I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AS I WAS MIDWAY THROUGH THE TURN. I COULD NOT MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR THUS AVOIDING A CRASH. AT THE SUGGESTION OF THE MOTORIST BEHIND ME WHO STOPPED TO ASK WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, I THEN TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THE STEERING THEN WORKED. A DAY LATER, AS I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN TO BRIGHT. THE NEXT DAY, THE PROBLEM DID NOT REOCCUR. *TR
CALLED MURRY FORD IN KINGSLAND GA, SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS FROM FORD MOTOR CO, NOTHING THAY CAN DO!
2011 FORD FUSION. CONSUMER STATES WHILE TRAVELING VEHICLE LOST POWER ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AS IT IDLED. THE CONSUMER TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND THEN STARTED THE VEHICLE. EACH TIME THE VEHICLE RAN NORMALLY AFTER HE RESTARTED IT. IN ADDITION TO THE PROBLEM, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM. *JB
LOW BEAMS DANGEROUSLY INADEQUATE. LOW BEAMS ILLUMINATE A PATTERN OF ONLY 18 FT. IN FRONT OF VEHICLE. AT 25 MILES PER HOUR A VEHICLE TRAVELS 36.6 FEET PER SECOND, WHICH MEANS THE DRIVER HAS LESS THEN A HALF OF ONE SECOND TO REACT TO ANYTHING IN OR ON SIDE OF THE ROAD. HAD THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TWICE REGARDING THIS BUT NOT UNTIL THE SALESMAN AND SERVICE MANAGER TOOK A NIGHT TIME RIDE DID THEY BELIEVE MY COMPLAINT. AFTER THE NIGHT RIDE TIME THEY BOTH AGREED, "THEY WOULD NOT DRIVE A CAR LIKE THAT". SERVICE CHECKED FOUR OTHER FUSIONS AND DISCOVERED THEY TOO HAD THIS PATTERN OF LIGHT. SINCE THE BEAMS ARE WITHIN THE OWNERS MANUAL SPECKS AND FORD HAS NOT ADDRESSED/ACKNOWLEDGED THIS ISSUE AS OF YET (WAITING FOR A FATALITY?) THE DEALER COULD NOT HELP ME AND SUGGESTED INSTALLING AFTER MARKETS AND REGISTERING THE VIN# WITH THE NHTSA. PURCHASED PIAA 75'S AND HAD THEIR SERVICE DEPT INSTALL. THIS DID NOT FIX THE 18 FT. VISIBILITY PATTERN PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO OC WELLS FORD LOCATED AT 4920 INDEPENDENCE BLVD, HARDEEVILLE, SC 29927, HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT OIL HAD LEAKED FROM THE ENGINE. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WAS NOT ABLE TO BE OPENED FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WERE NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN CLERMONT FL. WHEN CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER, FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, CAR WAS SHAKING AND SPUTTERING AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON.SHUT THE CAR OFF AND THEN RESTARTED IT, IT WILL RUN SOMETIMES FINE FOR A FEW DAYS THEN IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN,SOMETIME TWO OR THREE TIMES IN ONE DAY.I PICK UP MY GRANDCHILDREN FROM SCHOOL AND SOMETIMES WORK LATE AT NIGHT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM, WHAT IS FORD WAITING FOR TO RECALL THIS VEHICLE,FOR SOMEONE TO BE INJURED OR KILLED?THEY NEED TO FIX THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT CONFIRMED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THE BRAKE RESERVOIR CAP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,000.
WHILE PERFORMING THE FIRST TIRE/WHEEL ROTATION ON OUR NEW 2011 FORD FUSION SPORT WITH ALUMINUM WHEELS MORE THAN ONE WHEEL STUD BROKE OFF WHEN TORQUING TO FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS. THE FACTORY MANUAL CALLS FOR A TORQUE OF 100FP. INITIALLY LACKING THE FACTORY TORQUE SPEC I STARTED WITH 75FP AND EVEN AT 75FP FELT ONE LUG NUT TURN WHAT FELT LIKE TOO FAR AS COMPARED TO THE OTHERS. I OBTAINED THE TORQUE VALUE FROM THE OWNERS MANUAL (100FP) AND PROCEEDED TO COMPLETE THE TORQUE TO THE RECOMMENDED 100FP. ONE STUD THEN TWISTED OFF PRIOR TO REACHING 100FP. HAVING SEEN THAT THE NHTSA IS PERFORMING AN INVESTIGATION I THOUGHT I WOULD ADD THE FOLLOWING. IT OCCURS TO ME THAT WITH THE ALUMINUM RIMS AND THE SHAPE OF THE LUG NUT THERE MAY NOT BE ENOUGH FRICTION BETWEEN THE LUG NUT AND THE WHEEL TO ALLOW FOR PROPER TORQUE. *TR
ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2011 I WAS DRIVING MY 5 MONTH OLD 2011 FORD FUSION HYBRID WITH 5700 MILES ON IT WHEN A BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND A WARNING TONE SOUNDED IN MY VEHICLE. I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. I CALLED WALKER FORD IN CLEARWATER AND THEY SAID IT PROBABLY WAS ONLY A DEFECTIVE REAR BRAKE LIGHT AND BRING IT IN WHEN YOU HAVE TIME. I RESTARTED MY VEHICLE AND THE WARNING LIGHT AND TONE WERE GONE. I CONTINUED DRIVING HOME AND WHEN I WAS ALMOST HOME, THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND SO DID THE WARNING TONE. BUT THIS TIME I NOTICED MY ESTIMATED MILES PER GALLON ON THE ONBOARD COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS GOING UP AND DOWN AND THE VEHICLE NO LONGER WENT INTO THE ELECTRIC HYBRID MODE. I CALLED WALKER FORD AND TOLD THEM I WAS GOING TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN ON THE MORNING OF SEPTEMBER 16TH. I BROUGHT IT IN AND ALL DAY LONG THEY TROUBLESHOOT IT AND WALKER FORD COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. THEY PUT A CALL INTO THE FORD TECHNICIAN HOTLINE TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. AT THE END OF THE DAY THEY DID NOT HEAR BACK FROM THE HOTLINE AND I NEEDED A VEHICLE TO GET HOME. WALKER FORD WANTED TO GIVE MY VEHICLE BACK TO ME TO DRIVE HOME AND USE OVER THE WEEKEND. I REFUSED SAYING THAT THE MANUAL SAID TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE FOR THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT AND THE ELECTRIC/HYBRID SYSTEM NOT WORKING. NOTHING IN THE MANUAL SAID TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. SO WALKER FORD FINALLY GAVE ME A LOANER TO DRIVE. MONDAY SEPTEMBER 19TH THEY GOT AN ANSWER FROM THE HOTLINE AND IT SAID A VACUUM HOSE/ASSEMBLY WAS BAD AND THEY PUT ONE ON ORDER. THE NEXT DAY THE PART WAS NOT DELIVERED BUT A NOTICE THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE BUT BACK ORDERED AND IT WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE SOMETIME AROUND OCTOBER 14TH. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND MADE A COMPLAINT CASE # [XXX]. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
ON A FEW SEPARATE OCCASIONS, WHILE EITHER SITTING IN TRAFFIC AT A LIGHT OR DRIVING MY 2011 FORD FUSION HAS STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. IT HASN'T HAPPENED FOR A FEW MONTHS AND THERE IS NO RHYME OR REASON TO WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. WHEN THE STALLING OCCURS THE CAR LITERALLY SHUTS DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND I HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR TO PROCEED. *TR
ON AUGUST 1ST, 2015, I WAS ON MY WAY HOME AT ABOUT 10 PM AT NIGHT. I WAS GOING UP A HILL THAT CURVED TO THE LEFT AND SUDDENLY LOST CONTROL OF MY STEERING WHEEL. INSTEAD OF TURNING LEFT THE CAR PROCEEDED TO GO STRAIGHT WHERE I THEN BEGAN TO PANIC. I THEN SLAMMED MY BRAKE TO THE FLOOR AND IT SOMEHOW UNEXPECTEDLY SPED UP. I CRASHED INTO A POWER LINE AND SMASHED THE FRONT END INTO A TREE THAT HAD TOTALED MY VEHICLE. I HAVE SEAT BELT BURNS ON MY NECK, STITCHES ON MY KNEE, ABRASIONS, SUFFERED FROM A MINOR CONCUSSION, A LARGE AMOUNT OF BRUISES, SMALL CUTS ON MY HANDS AND FOREHEAD. I HAVE FULL MEDICAL DOCUMENTS OF MY INJURIES INCLUDING PICTURES. I LATER FOUND OUT THERE WERE 2 RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE A POWER STEERING AND 1 FULL THROTTLE BODY RECALL. THE POWER STEERING WAS COMPLETELY REPLACED PREVIOUSLY IN 7/16/2013 & 10/26/2013 AND THERE WAS NO SOLUTION TO THE THROTTLE BODY RECALL EXCEPT A EXTEND WARRANTY. I ALSO WENT TO THE CAR DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE 2 DAYS BEFORE THE ACCIDENT AND THEY MENTIONED NOTHING ABOUT ANY OF THE RECALLS. THEY ALSO HAD NO CLUE WHY IT WAS MAKING THE STRANGE NOISES AND TOLD ME IT WAS FINE AFTER 4 HOURS OF SERVICE. I'M STILL CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING PAIN IN MY SHOULDER THAT WAS DIAGNOSED AT THE ORTHOPEDICS ON AUGUST 18TH. I HAVE TO ATTEND PHYSICAL THERAPY TWICE A WEEK FOR 6 WEEKS. I CURRENTLY HAVE SHOOTING PAINS IN MY LEFT SHOULDER & MUSCLE SPASMS. ALSO MY LEG HAS NERVE DAMAGE WHERE I'M STILL EXPERIENCING NUMBNESS AT THIS TIME. THERE IS ALSO PERMANENT SCARRING FROM THE SEATBELT BURNS & THE AIR BAG RIPPING OFF THE SKIN OF MY LEFT THUMB. WE HAVE DOCUMENTATION OF EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE POLICE REPORT, CAR DIAGNOSIS AND THE VEHICLE IS STILL AT THE TOW LOT. NO ONE ELSE WAS INVOLVED OR INJURED HOWEVER THERE IS DOCUMENTATION OF THE PREVIOUS POWER STEERING RECALL ACCIDENT.
THIS HAPPENED SOMETIME BACK, HOWEVER IT COULD BE RELATED TO YOUR CURRENT INVESTIGATIONS. WHEN I HAD APPROX 1900 MILES ON THE CAR AND WHILE I WAS GOING AROUND 70 MPH, THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND I LOST ALL THROTTLE CONTROL. AFTER NEARLY GETTING HIT FROM BEHIND FROM A TRUCK (CAUSE I LOST SPEED), I MANAGED TO PULL OVER TO SAFETY AND SAW I HAD NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. I TURNED OFF THE CAR, AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON TO FIND IT OUT IT WOULDN'T START. SO I TURNED IT OFF ONCE AGAIN, WAITED 20 OR SO SECONDS, AND TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND PROCEEDED TO WORK. LATER ON THAT NIGHT, I PULLED THE CODES OFF THE SYSTEM AND KEPT THEM AS PICTURES (P2104 AND P2112) JUST IN CASE THE CODES CLEARED (COLD CYCLE). SURE ENOUGH I GO TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY, NO CODES FOUND AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY (FORD) CAN DO. I SHOWED THEM THE PICTURES, HOWEVER I WAS STILL TURNED AWAY. LATER ON AT AROUND 7500 MILES, THIS HAPPENED AGAIN AND THIS TIME I WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE DEALER TO RUN THE CODES. THEY PERFORMED TSB 11-4-23 ON THE ENGINE THROTTLE BODY AND ECU, AND INSTALLED A NEW WIRING HARNESS. LITTLE DID I KNOW AT THE TIME, BUT THIS STATES THAT UNDER RARE CONDITIONS THE ENGINE WILL EMIT THOSE CODES WHILE THE WIPERS ARE ON. *TR
HAD TO HAVE FLAT TIRE REPAIRED. WHEN TECHNICIANS TRIED TO PLACE WHEEL ON 2011 FUSION TWO (2) OF THE WHEEL BOLTS TWISTED AND WOULD NOT HOLD AT THE REQUIRED TORQUE LEVEL. HAD TO REPLACE TWO OF THE FIVE WHEEL BOLTS. TOOK CAR TO FORD DEALER TO HAVE ALL WHEEL BOLTS REPLACED. THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH BOLTS, HAD NO TECHNICAL BULLETINS, SAFETY ISSUES, RECALLS, ETC. AND WOULD NOT EVEN REPAY FOR THE TWO BOTS THAT WERE DEFORMED. THE TWO DEFORMED BOLTS WERE GIVEN TO THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I GAVE THEM EVIDENCE OF THE PROBLEM, COMPLETE DESCRIPTION, REPAIR SHOP THAT FOUND THE PROBLEM, ( WHOM I HAVE USED FOR OVER 30 YEARS), AND GOT THE ANSWER, IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN BRING IT BACK. THE VEHICLE WHEN DRIVEN EITHER DOES NOT SHIFT CORRECTLY OUT OF GEAR, DOESN'T MAINTAIN THE RIGHT GEAR, AND HAS A VIOLET UPSHIFT AND DOWNSHIFT REACTION WHEN INCREASING OR DECREASING SPEED.IT HAS BEEN AT FORD SERVICE GARAGE FOR OVER A MONTH, AND THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM, OR A SOLUTION. FORD ENGINEERS HAVE CAME DOWN AND LOOKED AT THE CAR. THEY ALSO CANNOT FIND A SOLUTION TO FIX THE PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. THEY HAVE REPLACED NUMEROUS PARTS IN THE TRANSMISSION, AND MOVED ON TO REPLACING SPARK PLUGS AND EGR VALVE IN THE ENGINE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE STEERING WILL TURN OFF. DRIVER WILL GET A BEEPING MESSAGE FOLLOWED BY THIS ERROR MESSAGE ON DISPLAY POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. SERVICE ADVANCETRAC THE CAR WILL OPERATE NORMALLY JUST WITHOUT ANY POWER STEERING AT ALL. DROVE MY BRAND NEW 2011 FORD FUSION WITH 5,000 MILES ON IT ON VACATION. THE TRIP WAS APPROX 400 MILES. DURING THE TRIP I DROVE THE CAR, AND ONE AFTERNOON THE SERVICE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE ADVANCE TRACK WARNING CAME ON AS WELL. BY THE TIME I MADE IT BACK TO THE PLACE I WAS STAYING THE VEHICLE HAD NO STEERING AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER. IT WAS RETURNED TO ME THE NEXT DAY AND THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT WAS "ALL SET", ALTHOUGH WHEN I DROVE AWAY THE STEERING STILL FELT "OFF" TO ME. I WAS ALMOST HOME FROM MY TRIP AND THE LIGHTS LIT UP AGAIN, THE CAR BECAME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO STEER, SO EVEN THOUGH IT WAS SATURDAY I DROVE IT DIRECTLY TO A FORD DEALER NEAR MY HOME AND LEFT IT THERE, BY THE TIME I PARKED IT THE STEERING WAS GONE AGAIN. WHILE ACCELERATING CAR GOES INTO LIMP MODE....DIAGNOSED AS THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN. *TR
WITHIN MONTHS OF HAVING MY BRAND NEW FUSION, I EXPERIENCED POWER STEERING FAILURE WHERE THE WHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE CAR HAD TO BE TURNED OFF TO RESET THE STEERING. THIS OCCURRED IN PARKING LOTS, AT SPEEDS OF 30MPH AND EVEN ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 65MPH. I RECENTLY HAD A SCARY INCIDENT OF LOSING STEERING CONTROL ON THE INTERSTATE, SO I TOOK IT IN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WAS $1700 TO FIX, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS BECAUSE IT WAS ORIGINALLY MISSING A PART? NOT SURE HOW THAT'S MY FAULT, ESPECIALLY SEEING HOW MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS THERE ARE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I PAID FOR THE REPLACEMENT AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS SINCE, BUT I SAW TODAY FORD RECALLED SOME CARS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM BUT NOT THE 2011 FORD FUSION! ORIGINAL INCIDENT OCCURRED IN JUNE 2011. VEHICLE LOST ALL ACCELERATION UNEXPECTEDLY AND WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. VEHICLE WAS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD AND THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. HAS SUBSEQUENTLY HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES. THE SECOND TIME THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM. THE THIRD TIME WAS JULY 2013. AGAIN VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. ADVISED THAT IT WAS AGAIN A FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE BOTTLE. PART ALONE WILL BE $400 TO REPLACE AND WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR 10 DAYS TO 3 WEEKS. WE PURCHASED 2011 FORD FUSION HYBRID & PICKED IT UP FROM DEALER ON 12 JUL 2011 AND DROVE IT HOME. WHEN WE DROVE VEHICLE NEXT ON 16 JULY 2011, THE TPMS WARNING WENT OFF WHEN WE WERE ONLY A COUPLE OF MILES FROM HOME. I TURNED AROUND TO GET VEHICLE HOME, BUT NOTED THAT THE VEHICLE SOUNDED LIKE TIRE WAS FLAT. I PULLED OFF AND SAW PASSENGER REAR TIRE WAS COMPLETELY FLAT. WE CALLED FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WHO CHANGED TIRE. THE MAN WHO CHANGED THE TIRE (INSTALLED DONUT) NOTED THAT THE VALVE STEM WAS MISSING. I TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO FOUND THE VALVE STEM HAD SEPARATED AND WAS INSIDE THE TIRE. THE VALVE STEM WAS REPLACED BY THE FORD DEALER UNDER WARRANTY AS THE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 100 MILES ON IT WHEN TIRE FAILED. *KB

CURIOUSLY, THE SMALLER NEEDLE ON THE RIGHT THAT TELLS ME THE TEMPERATURE OF THE RADIATOR FLUID SHOWS UP BETTER THAN THE -- MUCH MORE IMPORTANT -- LARGE NEEDLE THAT SHOULD TELL ME THE SPEED. 2011 FORD FUSION HEAD RESTRAINT TILTS TOO FAR FORWARD CAUSING CRAMPING AND PAIN IN THE NECK BECAUSE THE RESTRAINT PUSHED THE HEAD TOO FAR FORWARD. I HAVE ADJUSTED THE SEAT AND HEADREST VARIOUS WAYS BUT CAN NOT GET COMFORTABLE. MY CURRENT SOLUTION IS TO TILT THE SEAT BACK ABOUT FIVE NOTCHES TOO FAR BACK AND PLACE A PILLOW BETWEEN THE SHOULDERS SO THE HEADREST IS AN INCH OR SO BEHIND THE HEAD. NOT THE BEST SOLUTION, BUT WORKS FOR SHORT TRIPS. THE FLEET MANAGEMENT SAYS THAT THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS (THESE ARE NEW TO FLEET), BUT THE SELLING DEALER SAID THAT I WAS NOT THE FIRST TO COMPLAIN. OTHERS THAT HAVE DRIVEN THIS CAR HAVE ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME CONDITION. FLEET'S RECOMMENDED SOLUTION WAS TO NOT DRIVE THE FORD FUSION, BUT TO USE THE CHEVY IMPALA. THAT IS NOT A SOLUTION TO THE HEAD RESTRAINT PROBLEM. THEY ALSO SAID THAT IF I HAVE AN INJURY (I DON'T WANT TO HAVE AN INJURY JUST BECAUSE I DRIVE A CAR) I CAN GET A DOCTOR'S SLIP TO DRIVE MY OWN CAR AND BE REIMBURSED. SEEMS ONCE AGAIN A SUGGESTION THAT DOES NOTHING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE BUT REMOVES THE PROBLEM FROM THEIR OFFICE. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 35 TO 40MPH WHEN THE CAR STARTING ACTING UP. ANYTIME I HAD TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN SPEED UP THE RPM WOULD NOT SHIFT, WHEN IT DID SHIFT IT WOULD JERK THE CAR FORWARD. I ALSO HAVE BEEN HAVING AN ISSUE WHERE I WOULD STEP ON THE GAS AND IT WOULD ACT AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN AND I FEAR THAT ONE OF THESE TIMES I WILL BE IN AN ACCIDENT WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR. THESE ARE ALL TRANSMISSION ISSUES, I HAVE BROUGHT IT IN TWICE NOW FIRST TIME THEY DID THE TSB WHICH WAS TO RESET THE PCM AND MY AC WASN'T AND STILL IS NOT WORKING. RESETTING THE PCM DID NOT WORK SO NOW BACK IN THE SHOP IT SITS. THIS CAR IS ONLY 4 MONTHS OLD AND ALREADY HAS SAFETY ISSUES BEING THE TRANSMISSION. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL BEFORE THERE ARE DEATHS.
BRAKE SYSTEM CANNOT OVERPOWER ENGINE. THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS WEAK. FROM A DEAD STOP APPLYING FULL FORCE ON BRAKE PEDAL, THEN APPLYING ACCELERATOR, THE CAR ACCELERATES TO OVER 15MPH. IF THE CAR IS MOVING AND BOTH BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR ARE DEPRESSED CAR ACCELERATES RAPIDLY. BRAKES ARE COLD DURING THIS TEST. *TR
THIS IS THE 3RD REPORT THAT I AM FILING IN REGARD TO MY 2011 FORD FUSION. THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. WHETHER GOING HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR IN TRAFFIC LESS THAN 30MPH, THE VEHICLE WILL INTERMITTENTLY LOSE POWER TO THE THROTTLE. THE WRENCH AND EMISSIONS LIGHTS BOTH GO ON, THE VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND I LOSE ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. THE ONLY REMEDY IS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, WHICH I OFTEN NEED TO DO IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AS I DO NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO GET TO A BREAKDOWN LANE OR OTHER SAFE STOPPING POINT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY, CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO CROSS 4 LANES OF HIGHWAY TRAFFIC WITH NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. IT HAS ALSO OCCURRED IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS WITH TURNING TRAFFIC AS WELL AS AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS, CAUSING OTHER DRIVERS TO UNSAFELY PASS ME ON THE RIGHT. PLEASE NOTE THAT WHEN I DO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, I WILL BE FINDING BOTH FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ADMINISTRATION RESPONSIBLE AND LIABLE FOR ALL INJURIES AND DAMAGES DUE TO THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS AND THE ADMINISTRATION'S DECISION NOT ENFORCE A RECALL. EVER SINCE I GOT THE CAR (NEW) I NOTICED THAT EVEN WHEN THE BRAKE IS FULLY DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR WHILE DRIVING ON A SMOOTH SURFACE, NOT ENOUGH FRICTION WAS BEING APPLIED TO ROTORS TO CAUSE THE ABS SYSTEM TO ENGAGE. THERE SHOULD BE ENOUGH FRICTION TO LOCK THE WHEELS FORCING THE ABS TO PUMP. THE ONLY TIME I CAN GET THE ABS TO ENGAGE IS ON UNEVEN ROADS, AND ON SNOW AND ICE WHERE THE TIRES HAVE LESS TRACTION. EMERGENCY STOPS ARE DOWNRIGHT SCARY. IT FEELS AS TOUGH IM APPLYING ONLY 90% PRESSURE WHEN IN FACT IM FLOORING THE PEDAL. THIS OCCURS WHEN PADS ARE COLD, WARM OR HOT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THE TECH DROVE IT WITH ME AND AGREED THAT IT DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT. WE THEN TOOK A NEW FUSION OFF THE LOT (WAS NOT A SPORT, BUT IM NOT SURE WHAT VERSION) AND IT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTING IS UNPREDICTABLE. 1-2 AND 2-3 GEAR SHIFT WILL REV AT HIGH RPM AND SLAM INTO GEAR. MERGING INTO TRAFFIC OR AT ANY INTERSECTION WHERE CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP IS VERY DANGEROUS AS ACCELERATION IS NON-EXISTENT UNTIL IT SLAMS HARD INTO GEAR. THE CAR HAS DONE THIS FROM 1ST WEEK OF OWNERSHIP. BESIDES SAFETY ISSUE, THE TRANSMISSION AT THIS RATE WILL NOT LAST LONG. THIS ISSUE IS MAINLY PRESENT WHEN 1) COLD OR 2) AFTER THE CAR HAS SIT FOR A COUPLE DAYS MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR THE DEALER TO ACT ON ANYTHING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND RECOMMENDED THAT A CAMERA AND VIDEO SCREEN BE INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. AFTER OWNING MY 2011 FORD FUSION FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, THE 'SERVICE ADVANCETRAC SOON' LIGHT CAME ON. THE DEALER RAN A DIAGNOSIS ON THE CAR AND IT WAS SHOWING A STEERING ANGLE SENSOR BAD. WHEN THEY ORDERED THE PART AND TRIED TO INSTALL, THIS MODEL DID NOT HAVE ONE. AFTER THREE DAYS IN SERVICE AND NUMEROUS CALLS TO FORD, THE DEALER WAS TOLD TO RESET SYSTEM AND SEE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. IF IT DOES, THEY WILL TRY TO RESEARCH FURTHER.. *TR
MY NEW 2011 FORD FUSION HYBRID SHAKES AND VIBRATES TERRIBLY ON THE HWY. I HAVE HAD IT TO THREE DIFFERENT FORD DEALERS FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THEY CAN NOT FIX IT. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD DIRECTLY AND A REP INFORMED ME THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. HE FURTHER STATED THAT AT SUCH POINT THAT THEY FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX THE SHAKING AND VIBRATION PROBLEM, THEY WILL MOST LIKELY ANNOUNCE A RECALL. I INFORMED FORD THAT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR DUE TO THE SHAKING AND VIBRATION AND THAT IT SCARES ME TO DRIVE THE CAR THIS WAY. I ALSO INFORMED THEM THAT IT BOTHERS ME PHYSICALLY TO DRIVE THE CAR THIS WAY AND GIVES ME SEVERE HEAD AND EYE ACHES FROM THE SHAKING AND VIBRATION. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS CAR IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO ME AND ASKED THEM TO BUY THE CAR BACK. FORD INFORMED ME TODAY THAT EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR A BUY BACK AND THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO HELP ME. MY NEW CAR HAS ONLY THREE THOUSAND MILES ON IT AND I HAVE ALREADY HAD A BAD OIL LEAK AND MY GAS MILEAGE IS WAY OFF WHAT FORD CLAIMS I SHOULD GET. I FEEL THAT THIS IS ALL RELATED AND THAT THIS CAR HAS SEVERAL SERIOUS PROBLEMS (LEMON) WHICH I HAVE VOICED TO FORD BUT IT SEEMS THAT THEY DO NOT CARE AND IS FALLING ON DEAF EARS. BEING A HYBRID MODEL, FORD CLAIMS THAT I WILL GET 41 MILES PER GALLON. I AM ONLY GETTING 25 MILES PER GALLON AND INFORMED FORD OF THIS BUT THEY DO NOT SEEMED TO BE ALARMED BY THIS AT ALL. I AM TOTALLY AT A LOSS AND WONDER WHAT ELSE IS WRONG OR GOING TO GO WRONG WITH THIS CAR. I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYWHERE OUT OF TOWN LIKE IT IS AND IS THE ONLY CAR I HAVE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT WAS ON A STEEP INCLINE AND SHIFTED THE GEAR SELECTOR INTO THE REVERSE; SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE ROLLED FORWARD 6-8 FEET. THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE BRAKES WITH FORCE REPEATEDLY BEFORE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHEN THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE TRAVELED IN REVERSE. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONED AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,800. UPDATED 06/16/11*LJ THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE ENGINE WOULD STALL.
