2011 FORD FUSION SEL ,. WHILE DRIVING ON A COLD START, PULLING OUT OF NEIGHBORHOOD (LESS THAN 1 BLOCK), CAR JERKED FORWARD, TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT, THEN SHIFTED LIKE YOU WERE ON A WASHBOARD AND JERKED FORWARD HARSHLY WHILE TRYING TO SHIFT INTO GEAR. THIS HAPPENED WITH LESS THAN 300 MILES ON VEHICLE. NUMEROUS TIMES THEREAFTER, WHILE CAR WAS DRIVEN FOR MILES AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED, WHEN DRIVING AFTERWARD AT LOWER SPEEDS CAR WOULD DO THE SAME. EXAMPLE, DRIVING BACK FROM FLORIDA IN NORTH CAROLINA, CAUGHT UP IN A 4 MILE LONG BACKUP, STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, WHILE ROLLING FORWARD WITHOUT FOOT ON GAS TO GO A FEW FEET, TRAFFIC CLEARED FOR ABOUT A BLOCK, PUT FOOT ON GAS TO GO FORWARD, TRANSMISSION AGAIN FELT LIKE IT WAS ON A WASHBOARD, TRIED SHIFTING WITH A JERKING MOTION AND WHEN IT DID, JERKED HARD BEFORE FINAL SHIFT. THIS ALSO HAPPENS WHEN I AM ROLLING TO A STOP FOR A STOP LIGHT, WHICH THEN TURNS GREEN BEFORE A FULL STOP, PUT THE FOOT ON THE GAS AND THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS OCCUR. AS OF 4/20/11 I HAVE JUST 2800 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. CALLED DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED CAR FROM AND AM SCHEDULED TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. NO INDICATION FROM SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THEY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT PRIOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTED ON THE 2010. HAD I KNOWN THIS PRIOR TO PURCHASING (AFTER 20 YEARS OF NO PROBLEMS WITH HONDAS) I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT WAS EXITING A PARKING SPACE WHEN THE STEERING FAILED AND BECAME ABNORMALLY TIGHT. THE POWER STEERING CAME WARNING LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE UNTIL AFTER THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE HE WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE AND POSSIBLE REPAIRS. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,200.
I HAVE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF LOSING POWER STEERING BOTH WHILE STATIONARY AND DRIVING. THE CAR GENERATES A "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" ERROR MESSAGE. OFTEN AFTER TURNING OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTING (SOMETIMES TAKING SEVERAL TIMES), THE FAULT WILL CLEAR AND THE CAR OPERATES AGAIN NORMALLY; HOWEVER, THIS HAS RECURRED AT LEAST 3-4 TIMES IN THE FOUR YEARS I HAVE OWNED THE CAR. THIS ALSO OCCURS WHILE DRIVING, WHICH WOULD PRESENT A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD FOR SOMEONE UNLIKE MYSELF WHO DOES NOT HAVE PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH MANUAL STEERING VEHICLES THAT CAN ADJUST ON THE FLY. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS/ASSISTANCE SEVERAL TIMES, I AM TOLD THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSE IT UNLESS IT IS ACTIVELY SHOWING THE ERROR CODE (WHICH IS NOT FEASIBLE AS THE CODES CLEAR AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF, AND TYPICALLY WOULD REQUIRE EITHER A TOW TO A DEALERSHIP OR THE ABILITY TO DRIVE STRAIGHT TO A FORD FACILITY AT THE PRECISE TIME THE INCIDENT OCCURS, WITHOUT TURNING THE CAR OFF AT ANY POINT) AND THUS IT DOES NOT GET ADDRESSED OR FIXED. I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER REVIEWS OF OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS SAME MAKE AND MODEL, AND MANY HAVE RESULTED IN HIGHLY COSTLY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR REPAIR WHICH DO NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I SEE THAT NHTSA CURRENTLY HAS AN INVESTIGATION ONGOING REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE, AND AS SUCH WANTED TO ENSURE I DID MY PART BY FORMALLY DOCUMENTING ANOTHER INSTANCE OF THIS PROBLEM, AS I FELT FORD'S REPORT THAT IT IS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT ONLY AFFECTING 3 IN 1000 CARS SEEMS HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE GIVEN THE EXTENT OF OTHERS REPORTING THE SAME FAILURES IN A LIMITED NUMBER OF THESE CARS OF THE SAME MODEL YEAR SOLD, AND THOSE BEING LIMITED ONLY TO THOSE (UNLIKE MYSELF, UP UNTIL THIS JUNCTURE) WHO ELECTED TO TAKE THE TIME TO ENTER AN INTERNET COMPLAINT. *TR
CAR STARTED ROUGH, HAD VERY LITTLE POWER WHEN PULLING OUT OF GARAGE AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I COULD HARDLY MAKE IT TO THE NEXT DRIVE. PUT IN REVERSE AND PUT CAR BACK IN GARAGE. WHEN I TOOK IT INTO FORD FOR SERVICE THERE WERE NO CODES BUT THEY UPDATED THE COMPUTER HOPING IT WOULD FIX THE GLITCH. ON APRIL 4, 2011 IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT ON A HIGHWAY WHEN I GAVE IT GAS IT STARTED FORWARD, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND ONCE AGAIN LITTLE TO NO POWER WHEN PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR. (I WAS LUCKY TO NOT GET REAR-ENDED.) I OUT ON THE HAZARDS AND SLOWLY COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT. I CALLED FORD AND HAD IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. THIS TIME IT THREW CODES SO THEY WERE ABLE TO DETERMINE THE ISSUE WHICH WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WAS REPLACED. (THANKFULLY THIS WAS ALL UNDER WARRANTY.) THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. I WAS 3 LIGHTS AWAY FROM GETTING ONTO THE INTERSTATE DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I HATE TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THIS HAD OCCURRED ON THE INTERSTATE. *TR
WHEN THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR 24 HOURS, DRIVING IT THE NEXT DAY WILL CAUSE TRANMISSION FLARING. SPECIFICALLY, WHEN SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR (APPROX. AT 25 MPH), IT GOES TO NEUTRAL AND THEN BACKS INTO 3RD WITH A JUMP. THE TACHOMETER REGISTERS THE JUMP IN REV'S AS IT GOES TO NEUTRAL. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO FORD DEALER 4 TIMES AND STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD HAS A TSB 11-9-9 THAT EXPLAINS THE PROBLEM WITH THEIR IDEA OF A FIX. THE FIX HAS BEEN APPLIED WITH NO DIFFERENCE. *TR
2011 FORD FUSION SEL I DIDN'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS WHEN I STARTED VEHICLE I PULLED OUT IN TRAFFIC I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR REVVED TO OVER 5000 RPM'S, AND DIDN'T ACCELERATE. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED SO BADLY THAT I ALMOST GOT REARENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CAR HAS 1400 MILES ON IT, AND IT DID THIS ONE OTHER TIME WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS COLD. THIS CAN BE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF YOU ARE MERGING OR PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. THE FIRST INCIDENT I THOUGHT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS ADJUSTING TO DRIVING STYLE, AND IT WASN'T AS SEVERE. THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO DO THIS ONLY WHEN IT IS COLD. *TR
RECALL 11S23 I SOUGHT SERVICE ON 2/9. A MONTH LATER THE FORD DEALERSHIP STILL DOES NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
TRANSMISSION ORIGINALLY BLEW UP @ 2,900 MILES. TRANSMISSION NOW (10,000 MILES) LOOSES FORWARD MOMENTUM UNDER ACCELERATION (30 MPH) AND THEN HAS VIOLENT SHIFT FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. DEFECT PRESENTS SIGNIFICANT ISSUE PRESENTING AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE VEHICLE TO EITHER BE REARENDED WITH LOSS OF FORWARD MOMENTUM OR FOR THE DRIVER LOSE CONTROL AT VIOLENT UPSHIFT. DEALERSHIP HAS ATTEMPTED REPAIR 3 TIMES. DEALERSHIP HAS NOW INSTALLED DATA RECORDED AND RETURNED VEHICLE WITH INSTRUCTION TO OWNER TO RECORD DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION WHEN THE DEFECT RECURS. SYMPTOMS HAVE BEEN REPLICATED / CONFIRMED BY MULTIPLE FORD REPRESENTATIVES ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. NO ROOT CAUSE IDENTIFIED, NO PERMANENT CORRECTIVE ACTION IMPLEMENTED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND ATTEMPTING TO LIFT HIS FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH ROOM. HE NOTICED THE FAILURE MORE OFTEN WHEN HE WAS TRYING TO MAKE AN ABRUPT STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 500.
TAKATA RECALL-I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR ALMOST YEAR FOR REPAIR. I NEED THE CAR FOR TRAVEL. IS THERE ANY WAY OF SPEEDING REPAIR?
TRANSMISSION "FLARES" (RPMS JUMP) WHEN UPSHIFTS OCCUR, SOMETIMES SEVERAL HUNDRED RPMS BETWEEN LOWER AND NEXT HIGHER GEAR. THIS HAPPENS ON IRREGULAR BASIS, BUT MOSTLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN CAR IS COLD. *TR
2011 FORD FUSION. CONSUMER WRITES REGARDING FRONT SEAT HEAD RESTRAINTS. CONSUMER STATES THEY EXTEND TOO FAR FORWARD OF THE SEATBACK WHEN THE SEAT IS IN THE POSITION FOR DRIVING *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE RESTRAINT WAS CONSTANTLY PUSHING HIS HEAD FORWARD. WHEN THE SEATBACK WAS IN THE FULL UPRIGHT 90 DEGREE POSITION, THE HEAD RESTRAINT ALIGNED WITH THE MIDDLE SEAT. WHILE PIVOTING THE SEATBACK ABOUT 5 DEGREES, TO THE DRIVING POSITION, THE HEAD RESTRAINT WAS STILL 1/3 FORWARD OF THE SEATBACK. THE CONSUMER STATED IF HE PIVOTED THE SEATBACK FURTHER BACK, THERE WAS NO SUPPORT FOR HIS BACK. *JB

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENTIRE CONTROL AND THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WERE EXTREMELY SMALL, MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR THE CONTACT TO ENGAGE WHEN DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO INFORMED OF THE MANUFACTURER'S DESIGN AND WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG DEACTIVATION WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS BUT THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE PASSENGER WEIGHT WAS NOT SUFFICIENT FOR THE AIR BAG TO ACTIVATE AND THAT THE PASSENGER SHOULD SIT AS FAR AWAY FROM THE DASHBOARD AS POSSIBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130.
THE VEHICLE WILL STOP AT RANDOM AND WILL NOT MOVE AGAIN UNTIL YOU PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. IT HAS REPEATED SEVERAL TIMES AND IS GETTING WORSE. TODAY THE CAR STALLED 4 TIMES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100.
I BOUGHT A 2011 FORD FUSION ON NOV. 26, 2010. THE DAY I BROUGHT IT HOME, THE PROBLEMS STARTED. IT BANGS SO HARD INTO REVERSE THAT IT FEELS LIKE SOMEONE RAN INTO THE CAR WITH A BULLDOZER. IT HAS DEAD SPOTS IN THE ACCELERATION, AND OFTEN GOES ABOVE 5000 RPM WHEN SHIFTING JUST GOING DOWN A NORMAL FLAT HIGHWAY. THE PROBLEMS HAVE GOTTEN WORSE AND MORE FREQUENT AND ARE COMPLETELY RANDOM. IT HAPPENS WITH A WARM ENGINE, COLD ENGINE, IN RAIN, SNOW, SUN, AND EVEN AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR 4 HOURS STRAIGHT. I NOW HAVE OVER 6000MILES ON THE CAR AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS DONE NOTHING BECAUSE FORD WON'T AUTHORIZE ANYTHING BECAUSE THE CAR IS NOT "PUTTING OUT ANY CODES." THEY SAY THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH PROBLEMS, BUT ONLINE FORUMS HAVE HUNDREDS OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS WITH 2010 FUSIONS. MY FEAR IS THAT THE ACCELERATION WILL FAIL WHEN I AM ON THE EXPRESSWAY OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR THAT MY TRANSMISSION WILL JUST FALL OUT COMPLETELY. THIS IS MY FIRST NEW CAR, AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO GET ANOTHER ONE OR A LONG COURT BATTLE. HELP! IT'S NOT JUST AN INCONVENIENCE, IT'S UNSAFE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY, ENGINE VALVE AND FUEL SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE CLEANED AND THE POWER CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,552 AND THE APPROXIMATE 160,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE HEATER WAS ACTIVATED, THE SILVER PORTION OF THE HEAT ADJUSTERS WOULD BECOME EXTREMELY HOT AND COULD NOT BE ADJUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
STEERING POWER ASSIST & TRACTION FAILED WHILE I WAS IN TRAFFIC. POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED TWICE BEFORE AS I BACKED OUT OF GARAGE. *TR
I CHANGED THE HEADRESTS ON THE FIRST LONG TRIP WE TOOK. MY FRIEND IN THE PASSENGER SEAT CHANGED HERS AROUND WHILE I WAS DRIVING -- IT WAS FORCING HER HEAD FORWARD UNCOMFORTABLY. AS SOON AS I STOPPED FOR GAS, I CHANGED MINE AROUND, AS WELL. I AM NOT GOING TO CHANGE THEM BACK AND IT IS A SHAME -- I AM LEFT WITHOUT SUPPORT SHOULD A CRASH OCCUR. THIS IS NUTS. WHAT THE HECK WERE THE ENGINEERS THINKING? I NEED TO GET HEADRESTS THAT LET ME SIT UP STRAIGHT WITHOUT HAVING TO LOOK OUT FROM UNDER MY EYEBROWS WITH MY NOSE AIMED AT THE FLOOR! WHO WERE THEY ENGINEERING THE HEADRESTS FOR, PRAY TELL? *TR
VEHICLE NOT ABLE TO STOP IMMEDIATELY. BRAKES WENT TO FLOOR. JANUARY 22, 20120 PULLEY NOISE IN ENGINE CONTINUOUSLY WHERE AIR CONDITIONING BELT IS PLACED.
