There are 46 owner-reported powertrain & transmission complaints for the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-Ein NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
Vehicle experienced immediate loss of motive power while in motion at 45 mph after "Stop Safely Now" alert. This is a repeat power failure. The vehicle was in service for 75+ days (Dec-Feb) for this exact defect. The Ford service center said they replaced the “battery controller” yet the issue recurred. The car previously flagged this alert while in motion 2 times prior (one on the highway going ~65mph and on another major street going roughly ~45 mph). As a Ford Reacquired Vehicle (Buyback), the failure to resolve this catastrophic electrical fault creates an extreme risk of crash and entrapment in traffic, putting myself, my family and the drivers in vicinity at significant safety risk. The car is currently at a different Ford Service Center. They have been able to reproduce the issue and are currently running diagnostics to identify a resolution.
On Saturday, [XXX], while driving under normal conditions, the vehicle experienced a sudden and complete loss of propulsion without warning. There was no reduced-power mode, no dashboard alert, and no mobile app notification prior to shutdown. The vehicle was subsequently inspected by a Ford dealership. The technician identified an intermittent software-related condition consistent with Ford TSB 26-2005, which documents a fault capable of draining the 12-volt electrical system during vehicle operation. The technician stated the 12-volt battery is not believed to be the root cause. The loss of propulsion occurred while the vehicle was in motion and resulted in a full shutdown. The condition was not preceded by any driver warning or controlled degradation. No driver warning was received after shutdown. I am requesting immediate escalation regarding my 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E (VIN: [XXX] ), which is currently undrivable due to being stuck in “Power Accessory Active” mode. The vehicle will not enter Drive. The dealer has diagnosed DCEM / high-voltage system-related faults and stated that recall repairs cannot be completed unless I first pay approximately $3,000 to repair the “main battery.” My concern is that the symptoms and failure mode exactly match the known High-Voltage Battery Junction Box / DCEM defect described in Ford Safety Recall 23S56, including: •Vehicle unable to drive •High-voltage system refusing to close contactors •Vehicle remaining in accessory power mode •Safety-related loss of motive power While my VIN may not be currently listed as eligible for these recalls, my vehicle is exhibiting identical symptoms and failure modes associated with the following Ford safety recalls: •HV Battery Junction Box / DCEM defect (Recall 23S56) •Powertrain / Software Update (Recall 22S29) •12-Volt Battery / Door Latch Entrapment Risk (Recall 25S65) It is important to note that other Mustang Mach-E owners have reported the same recall-related failures even when their VINs were not listed for these recalls. These failures involve contactor issues, loss of motive power, and vehicles being stuck in accessory mode — identical to the symptoms my vehicle is experiencing. Given that my vehicle is experiencing a safety-related loss of motive power, Given the safety implications and known defect history, I request that this matter be reviewed. The contact owns a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 - 25 MPH in the rain at night, the brake pedal was bouncing up and down. The contact stated that the doors locked and failed to open. Additionally, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the hazard lights were inoperable. They stated that one of the passenger’s side tire warning lights was illuminated. The contact stated that the battery was at 98 percent and that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V333000 (Vehicle Speed Control, Power Train) prior to the failure. The contact called Roadside Assistance, but Roadside Assistance was unable to assist. The contact stated that a Police Officer arrived on the scene to assist. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer after several hours. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 40,400.
only incident I have had is that the dealership cannot fix the recall yet its been a week and still have not recieved anything ,or a loaner or a rental. I am in the military active duty and havent had anything
Was driving and suddenly all errors started popping up Hill start assist warning 1 pedal driving unavailable Pre collision assist not available Antilock brake fault, etc Lost braking power, steering got stiff, accelerated suddenly.
I have had the HVBJB replaced twice. I have had 2 high voltage warnings and power train malfunction. It in the shop again for the same problem. Supposedly getting fixed for the same problem.
The electrical system failed. Issue was it disengaged the 12 volt system as well. Vehicle seized and stopped in the middle of a high usage road with no ability to put into neutral. After speaking with Ford, they concede that there must be 12 volt battery power in order to put car in neutral. After 2 hours of blocking traffic The tow truck arrived ( was a rainy day) and within a minute hooked up a 12 volt battery and drove the vehicle off the road way. This is not acceptable and needs to be addressed. My claim number with Ford is: case [XXX]. Thank you. Feel free to contact me in any further information is needed. It has several error messages including "Stop safely now". This seems to be the same issue as recall 23S56 (TSB 22-2178). The vehicle is not drivable as it will not start or go into gear. Seems to be known issue with the HVBJB.
Mach e standard edition shows multiple signs of a failing High Voltage Battery Junction Box (HVBJB). The vehicle was bought certified pre owned with only 12k miles on the vehicle. At 16k miles (2 months of ownership) the vehicle showed a high voltage battery warning and power train malfunction warning. Three warning lights were displayed on the dash which were: a yellow turtle, wrench, and car with exclamation. Vehicle was taken to service department where they ran updates and said the issue was a one pedal drive error and ran a standard osp for a power train update (not related to this power train issue). They made no mention of the battery and power train issue on the service record. 1-2 weeks later and about 1k miles, the same issue repeated. The vehicle was taken to a different dealership where they indicated the car had a over heating charge coupler and unbalanced battery "A". Both of these show a probable issue with the HVBJB. The dealership has been insistent that they can't do anything without a stored code. Prior OSP's updated the car to limit power when contactors in the HVBJB exceeded .5 ohms and would show all the warnings we have seen. The main 12 volt battery was replaced at 1k miles, which Ford did not realize the failure could have been from the HVBJB, as it receives charge from the primary batteries. The dealership and Ford engineers have requested that we drive the vehicle until the safety lights repeat, knowing that this puts us in danger of a larger malfunction that could result in complete loss of power while driving. They say that they cannot work on an issue unless a code is tripped. I suspect a code will not trip as the first two times nothing was stored and the OSP patch that NHSTS requested helps prevent the complete failure. The code will only be stored in a complete failure event, which could lead to an accident. There are current recalls for this HVBJB, however it is only for the higher end models. Out of space :) Thanks
Driving in a 40mph zone and car suddenly lost all power followed by a message stop safetly now and the 12v battery icon. While coasting car lost power steering and upon stopping went into park and would not go into neutral for 30+ minutes
After reversing, I changed the gear to drive and then the car suddenly accelerated and continued doing so. I was about to crash into another car until I pressed the brake when the car came to a stop. This is the second or third time this has happened with the most recent instance being most concerning as the speed was increasing with time. I did not have my foot on the accelerator during this time nor was the car in cruise control.
I experienced the issue described in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V687000. I had loss of power on the highway. I felt that my safety was at risk immediately after I lost power on the highway where other drivers were driving 60-80 mph. I managed to pull to the side of the road and waited in excess of 2 hours for a tow truck issued by Ford to arrive. The issue was confirmed at the dealer. The reason for my complaint is that I made an appointment with Ford for 4/16 and was told the parts would arrive in 3-5 business days. After 9 business days, the parts still had not arrived, and I experienced the issue that I was hoping to avoid.
On April 19th, I picked up dinner and when I went to leave the parking lot, my vehicle turned on, but did not allow me to move out of park, nor shift into any other gear. I turned the vehicle on and off about ten times to see whether that might allow me to shift into another gear, but to no avail. It was later in the evening, so when I called the Ford customer service line I received an after hours message, and then thereafter I received a call from a Ford customer service center caller saying that they saw I was "stranded" and would send a tow truck to take the vehicle to the nearest Ford mechanic shop. They picked the vehicle up around 11pm in the evening. While the vehicle has had numerous other recalls, (windshield, etc.) I had not received any recall notice related to a battery issue. The dashboard showed a wrench in a car symbol as well as the battery symbol and a note that said "Stop safely now," and "full accessory power active." For the two and a half weeks following, I was not told what was wrong with the vehicle, nor was I provided a courtesy car. When I requested rental coverage, I was informed I would have to call "corporate" in order for them to cover the request, and when I did reach them, I was told that until they diagnosed the vehicle, they could not tell me whether it was my fault or theirs. After weeks of going back and forth, they agreed to cover a Ford rental (that I had to find on my own,) but have still not been given my vehicle as I have been informed that there are program wide software holds on the vehicle that prevent the technician from working on it. My lease ends in another month, and I have not been provided any information as to what my options are, or whether the vehicle will be fixed. I was also informed that I was not eligible for the Ford repurchase program as the vehicle is over the allotted 2 year/24K mile period, but I am extremely frustrated by the lack of care Ford has shown for my safety and ability to get around.
This car has had multiple recalls and issues with the power train. It has affected my safety on multiple instances. The cars sensors went out die to the batter overheating and it was having trouble delivering power to the sensors and other parts of the vehicle. When the sensors went out, the car would malfunction and it would think we are about to crash so it would break on its own and do other weird technical things. When the battery overheats it also does not allow effect cooling of vehicle and I live in a state that is very hot. I have reported these issues to the dealer multiple times, but Ford has not put out a remedy for this issue yet.
This is the second HVJB failure on my mustangs Mach e. I was told my last replacement was the upgraded unit. It last as long as my last one.
This is becoming a common occurrence with this vehicle. The power train/ front end collision sensor/ tire sensor/ air bay sensor/ drive train all malfunctioning. Ford refuses to help.
On October 15, 2023, with my EV battery charged at 69% and about 2 minutes after beginning my drive, I suddenly received a warning on the dashboard which stated "Stop Safely Now". Within 5 seconds, the vehicle would not accelerate and eventually came to a stop. The first episode of this occurred on Sunday, October 15. My car had to be towed to Gullo Ford in Conroe, TX, where I purchased the car in March 2022. The vehicle was serviced by Gullo Ford's service department on October 16, 2023. The repair invoice references replacing the electronic parking brake harness connector and reprogramming the battery charge control module per recall on October 16. 2023. I picked the vehicle up from Gullo Ford on the afternoon of October 16. The car worked normally until Monday, October 30, 2023 when the same thing happened. About 2 minutes after starting and driving the car, I received the warning to "Stop Safely Now". The vehicle would not accelerate. My battery was charged over 70% when this occurred. The first time this happened on October 15, 2023, I was able to coast the car into a parking lot, out of traffic. On Monday, October 30, my car did not have enough speed to allow me to coast out of the flow of traffic which left me stranded in my car during rush hour, blocking one lane and the entry to a turn lane. This was a very unsafe circumstance as my car would not accelerate again, leaving me without a way to move out of the flow of traffic. Again, my car had to be towed to Gullo Ford in Conroe, TX where it remains at this time. I do not feel safe driving a car which will stop accelerating with only a 5 second notice to "Stop Safely Now". I have no idea when this will happen leaving me stranded in the flow of traffic with no way to move.
Car gave me the high voltage fault that many Mach e owners have reported. Car is in the dealership now and I don’t have the car. Why weren’t these recalled?
Dashboard warnings about the high-voltage battery due to a fault. There is a known issue with the HVBJB (high-voltage battery junction box) plus a powertrain malfunction warning..
