THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND THE AIRBAGS LIGHT IS FLASHING PER THE FORD DEALER THE AIRBAGS ARE NOT OPERATIONAL. FORD INDICATES THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO THE CAR BEING 6000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY SO IF I AM INVOLVED IN A CRASH I WILL NOT BE PROTECTED BY THE AIRBAGS, AFTER READING ONLINE COMPLAINTS THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE ON 2007 TO 2011 MUSTANGS. *TR
I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT WITH 3 VEHICLES AHEAD OF ME. I HAD SLOWED DOWN ALMOST TO A COMPLETE STOP WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENGINE ROARED AND THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD INTO THE BACK OF THE PICKUP IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD THE BRAKE COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND THEN MY REAR WHEELS BEGIN SPINNING WITH THE MOTOR STILL ROARING. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO PUT THE (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) CAR IN PARK AS IT SEEMED TO BE STUCK WHEN I FIRST TRIED TO GET IT OUT OF GEAR AND STILL THE MOTOR WAS REVVING UP AND STILL LURCHING FORWARD AND TURNED THE KEY OFF AND IT SHUT DOWN. MY FRONT BUMPER WAS DAMAGED IN THE ACCIDENT. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE SHOWING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. MECHANIC STATED NOTHING PICKED UP DIAGNOSTICALLY IN ORDER TO PINPOINT THE PROBLEM ALTHOUGH THE ASSUMPTION WAS IT WAS EITHER THE TPS OR POSSIBLY A VACUUM LEAK. I HAVE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS CAR AND PRIOR TO THIS HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT, BUT NOW I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THERE WAS A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THREE TIMES WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SWAY BAR AND THE BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, DAYS LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SAFE TECH AUTO GLASS- JOE MYERS FORD 16634 NORTHWEST FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77040 WHERE THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO RATTLING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD MUSTANG. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT PLACED THE GEAR SHIFTER INTO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS, WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THE TP SENSOR OF THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT FRACTURED. IN ADDITION, THE GEAR KIT AND BEARINGS WERE REPLACED. THE METAL FILINGS FROM THE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY WERE ALSO CLEANED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
ACCELERATOR STUCK - 2009 FORD MUSTANG GT - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DATE OF INCIDENT: SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2010 LATE AFTERNOON AS I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AFTER LEAVING MY FOOT OFF THE PEDAL AND THE THROTTLE REMAINED OPEN. I APPLIED MY BRAKES UPON REALIZING THE THROTTLE WAS STUCK. I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN (BRAKING ONLY) BEFORE REACHING THE INTERSECTION. THE ENGINE CONTINUED REVVING AT A HIGH LEVEL (AS I CAN BEST RECALL) BETWEEN 3500 AND 4000 RPM FOR WHAT SEEMED TO BE ABOUT 5 SECONDS. LUCKILY, I CAME TO ALMOST A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE ENTERING THE MAIN HIGHWAY AS THE ENGINE SPEED WAS STILL PULLING THE CAR FORWARD WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED. THANKFULLY, NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED AND NO ONE WAS HURT OR INJURED. THE CAR THEN RETURNED TO A NORMAL IDLE SPEED AND I DROVE HOME WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. NOTE: THE TCS (TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM) WAS TURNED OFF THIS DATE, WHICH WAS SOMETHING THAT I HAD NOT DONE IN THE PAST DURING OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO INVESTIGATE THIS SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS TOLD THEY WERE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THIS COMPLAINT AND THAT I WAS THE FIRST. A SERVICE TECH WENT OVER THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES OR PROBLEMS DURING A TEST DRIVE (4 MILES). BESIDES THE DEALERSHIP, I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AS I HOPED THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT CAN BE CORRECTED AS THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. 11/12/10 CALL RETURNED FROM A REGIONAL FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. I OFFERED TO LET FORD HAVE THE VEHICLE FOR INVESTIGATION OVER THE WINTER MONTHS. I HAVE NOT HAD ANOTHER SIMILAR INCIDENT, BUT HAVE ONLY DRIVEN THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 50 MILES. *TR
CLUTCH FAILURE ON MY 2009 FORD MUSTANG GT500 - AT 18,000 MILES THE CLUTCH BEGAN TO SLIP WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. I TOOK THE CAR TO M PURCHASING DEALER AND REQUESTED A DIAGNOSTIC, THEY INDEED CONFIRMED THAT THE CAR EXHIBITED THE PROBLEM BUT INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS A WEAR ITEM WITH ONLY A 12 MS/12K WARRANTY. FORD HAS ISSUED A TSB ON THE CLUTCH AND ITS FLYWHEEL INDICATING THAT HEAVY STOP AND GO TRAFFIC WILL WARP THE FLYWHEEL AND IN TURN RUIN THE CLUTCH AND TRANSMISSION. FORD DID NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM (IDENTIFIED IN THE TSB,NHTSA 10032615 - TSB-09-19-11). *TR
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. MY VEHICLE (WHICH I PURCHASED NEW IN JUNE 2010) HAS BEEN TO THE FORD DEALER SEVEN TIME IN AN ATTEMPT TO REPAIR AN ON-GOING PROBLEM WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE FORD TECH'S HAVE DETERMINED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL RECOVERY SYSTEM HOWEVER THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPAIR. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN MY VEHICLE SINCE I PICKED IT UP THE END OF JAN. 2011 AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON 100 MILES FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE DETERMINED THAT THERE IS EITHER A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL RECOVERY SYSTEM AS THE FORD TECH'S. SAY THE LIGHT INDICATES OR THERE IS A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH THE INDICATOR LIGHT. EITHER OR OF WHICH COULD CAUSE A FIRE IN MY VEHICLE. I'M A FIRE INVESTIGATOR AND IT HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE THAT MOST ACCIDENTAL VEHICLE FIRES ARE CAUSED BY FUEL OR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DEACTIVATED AND THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT CONTINUOUSLY APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT TO NO AVAIL. SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY SHIFTING INTO PARK WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
BASICALLY, I FIRST NOTICED THE PAINT BUBBLING UP ON THE FRONT EXTERIOR EDGE OF MY HOOD ABOUT 1 1/2 YEARS AFTER BUYING THE CAR NEW. IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE GENTLEMAN AT THE BODY SHOP SAID THAT HE'D SEEN IT MANY TIMES ON MUSTANGS AND OTHER FORD MODELS AND THAT THE PROBLEM MOST LIKELY WOULD RETURN AND IT DID. AFTER REPORTING IT A SECOND TIME, I TRIED TO CLAIM FOR A NEW HOOD FROM FORD BUT THEY FLAT OUT REFUSED. I ALSO REPORTED IT TO MILITARY AUTOSOURCE ON LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK (THE BOSS ACTUALLY) AND HE BENT OVER BACKWARDS TO HELP ME GET A NEW HOOD BUT THEY REFUSED HIM AS WELL. FORTUNATELY, I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE I'VE HAD OTHER PROBLEMS WITH MY MUSTANG, THE MOST SERIOUS BEING THE PLAY/BACKLASH IN MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL BEING WAY OUT OF LIMITS. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE BETWEEN 0.2 AND 0.3MM. I HAD TO GET A SECOND OPINION FROM ANOTHER CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO CHECKED IT PROPERLY AND FOUND THAT THE PLAY/BACKLASH WAS ALMOST 5MM. THIS IS WHAT HAS BEEN CAUSING THE "CLUNK" IN MY DRIVE TRAIN. FORTUNATELY, THE BOSS AT MILITARY AUTOSOURCE CONTACTED A TOP MECHANIC AT FORD TO GET THE INFO I NEEDED TO GET THE DIFFERENTIAL ADJUSTED/REPAIRED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD MUSTANG. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FELL TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR SPORADICALLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND SUGGESTED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
I WAS INVALID IN AN ACCIDENT AND MY FRONT AND/OR SIDE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. I WAS STRUCK IN THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT END AND THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT FENDER BY A 1995 FORD TEMPO THAT WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. I WAS TRAVELING AT 10MPH WHEN THE IMPACT WAS MADE. THE ESTIMATE TO REPAIR MY CAR IS $8000 AND THEY HAVEN'T EVEN TAKEN IT APART YET, THAT IS JUST FROM A VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE OUTSIDE. I DRIVE A 2009 FORD MUSTANG GT PREMIUM EDITION. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I HAVE READ INTERNET SITES AND SAW PICTURES OF THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL OF VEHICLE THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY EITHER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT CAUSED THE CONTACTS VEHICLE TO CRASH HEAD-ON INTO UTILITY CABLES. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND THE CONTACT WAS INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND WAS BEING INSPECTED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 39,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN HER VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED OVER 100 MPH. WHEN THE VEHICLE MADE A ROARING NOISE SHE THOUGHT THAT HER CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED. SHE CONTINUED TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE YET, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE DRIVER ALSO PLACED BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO INCREASE IN SPEED WHENEVER SHE TOOK HER FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 6,000.
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON FEB 2, 2010. MY DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY PROPERLY BECAUSE MULLINAX FORD CO. HERE IN FLA. PUT SEATCOVERS OVER CLOTH SEATS. SO ACTUALLY THE AIRBAG HAD TO DEPLOY OUT OF TWO SEATS. I HAD PAID $950.00 FOR LEATHER SEATS NOT SEATCOVERS. THE FORD DEALERSHIP THAT REPAIRED MY CAR WILL NOT PUT THE SEATCOVER BACK ON SO NOW I HAVE SEATCOVERS ON ALL THE SEATS EXCEPT FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD MUSTANG. THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED THROUGH THE TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT BEGAN TO DRIVE NORMALLY. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE THE VEHICLE ALSO ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE IS RELATED TO THE CURRENT TOYOTA RECALL WITH THE STICKY PEDAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1900.
2009 FORD MUSTANG GAINING SPEED UP TO 100 MPH ACTED LIKE CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEM FORD DEALER CHECKED IT OUT (CONCLUSION) NO PROBLEMS FOUND. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH AND TRYING TO EVADE A DRIVER WHO RAN A STOP SIGN, I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES OF MY 2009 FORD MUSTANG GT. EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS), THE BRAKES DID LOCK AND THE CAR SKID LEAVING TIRE MARKS FOR SEVERAL FEET. I HAVE OWNED VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ABS FOR AT LEAST THE PAST 15 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BRAKE BEHAVIOR ACROSS ANY OF THOSE VEHICLES AS I DID TODAY.*TR
I HAVE A FORD MUSTANG 2009 V-6, I WAS IN 2ND GEAR ACCELERATING TO PASS SOMEONE, AND GAS PEDAL STUCK TO FLOOR,COULD NOT DO ANYTHING, PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, STILL DID IT. FORD MUSTANG RENTED AT TUCSON AIRPORT ON OCT. 24, 2009, 3 TIMES WHEN STOPPING AT RED LIGHT, AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKE, THE CAR'S ENGINE STARTED TO REV AND ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC. I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR, SCREAMED, PULLED UP THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND PUT THE CAR INTO PARK UNTIL THE LIGHT CHANGED. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE, BUDGET PICKED UP THE CAR AT A GAS STATION AND BROUGHT ME ANOTHER RENTAL, UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS ANOTHER FORD MUSTANG. STOPPING TO PULL INTO AN ANGLED PARKING SPACE, APPLIED THE BRAKE ON THE SECOND CAR, GUESS WHAT, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. CAR'S ENGINE REVVED AND CAR ACCELERATED INTO THE CURB, STOOD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, NOTHING HAPPENED. PULLED UP THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND PUT CAR INTO PARK. RETURNED THE CAR TO THE RENTAL AT THE AIRPORT, THE MANAGER BLEW ME OFF, NO ONE CARES UNTIL THERE'S A DEATH. FORD HAS NOT RESPONDED AND THIS IS MY SECOND REQUEST FOR A RESPONSE FROM YOUR OFFICE. PERHAPS, THE SAME MANUFACTURER IS MAKING THE PARTS FOR FORD AS ON THE TOYOTA. ONE DOES NEED TO LOOK INTO THIS. MY HUSBAND WAS SITTING NEXT TO ME IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT IN ALL INCIDENTS, WE ARE APPALLED. SEVERAL MAJOR ACCIDENTS WERE AVOIDED HERE, I NEED A RESPONSE. *TR
2009 MUSTANG GT STEERING WHEEL MAKE NOISE WHEN DRIVING SLOW, SUCH AS DURING PARKING. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER BUT THEY SAY THEY DONT KNOW WHY. I AM CONCERN THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFTEY ISSUE, E.G. STEERING STUCK DURING DRIVING OR STEERING WHEEL OUT OF CONTROL. THANK YOU
ABOUT A MONTH AFTER MY PURCHASE OF MY NEW MUSTANG IN 2009, I HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY AIR BAG LIGHT COMING ON ALL THE TIME. I TOOK IT IN WHILE UNDER WARRANTY TO GET IT FIXED. IT TOOK THE FORD HOUSE 2 MONTHS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. 4 YEARS LATER SAME ISSUE. AIR BAG LIGHT IS COMING ON. NO WARRANTY AT THIS TIME TO GET IT CHECK OUT. I'VE NOTICED THAT IT HAS BEEN A COMMON ISSUE OR AT LEAST WITH FAULTY AIR BAGS. I'M AFRAID I MAY HAVE THE SAME ISSUE IF I AM EVER IN A CAR ACCIDENT. I FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CORRECTING THE SAME ISSUE AS OF 4 YEARS AGO. CALL IT A WARNING SIGN THAT IT MAY VERY WELL BE A FAULTY AIR BAG ISSUE. TO BE CONTINUED. *TR

THE CONTACT HAD TO PLACE THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING DIAGNOSED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 1,000. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V319000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
I RENTED A CAR FROM THRIFTY IN SEATTLE, AND WAS ASSIGNED AN ALMOST NEW MUSTANG. I FOUND IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO BRAKE WITH MY LEFT FOOT WITHOUT ALSO HITTING THE ACCELERATOR. THE PEDALS WERE VERY CLOSE AND ALMOST SAME HEIGHT. I CONSIDERED THE CAR UNDRIVEABLE. I EXCHANGED IT ASAP, NO SURPRISE TO THRIFTY. *TR

STILL WAITING FOR THE PART TO BE AVAILABLE FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG. IT'S BEEN PROBABLY A YEAR SINCE WE WERE NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT FOR PASSENGER SIDE BAG. TO DATE, PART NOT READY. HAD THE DRIVER SIDE BAG REPLACED IN JUNE 2016. DO WE HAVE TO SUE TO GET THE REPLACEMENT INSTALLED?
THIS NOTIFICATION INVOLVES MY BRAND NEW 2009 FORD MUSTANG GT PREMIUM CONVERTIBLE AND THE USE OF CHILD SEAT TETHERS. WHEN ONE INSTALLS A CHILD SEAT IN THIS VEHICLE AND RUNS A TETHER STRAP OVER THE HEAD REST OF THE REAR SEAT, THE FORD MANUAL STATES THAT THE TETHER SHOULD BE ATTACHED TO THE INDICATED ANCHOR HOOK. THIS ANCHOR HOOK IS DOWN IN THE STORAGE COMPARTMENT WHERE THE POWER CONVERTIBLE TOP STOWS WHEN IT IS OPENED. UNFORTUNATELY, WHEN THE CONVERTIBLE TOP GOES THROUGH THE OPENING PROCESS, THE FIRST PART OF THE ROOF THAT IS LOWERED DOWN INTO THE ROOF STORAGE COMPARTMENT IS THE HARD REAR-WINDOW GLASS PART OF THE ROOF. AS THE REAR-WINDOW BEGINS TO LOWER ITSELF INTO THE STORAGE WELL, IT COMES DOWN ON TOP OF THE TETHER BUCKLE. WHEN THE REAR-WINDOW CONTACTS THE TETHER BUCKLE, TWO SERIOUS THINGS HAPPEN (OR COULD HAPPEN). FIRST, AND MOST SERIOUSLY, THE PRESSURE FROM THE REAR-WINDOW CAN CAUSE CERTAIN TYPES OF TETHER BUCKLES TO LOOSEN WITH THE DOWNWARD PRESSURE FROM THE REAR-WINDOW. THIS, OF COURSE, LOOSENS A KEY SAFETY BELT ATTACHMENT FOR THE CHILD RIDING IN THE CHILD SEAT. THE LOOSENING OF THIS ATTACHMENT COULD PUT THE CHILD SEAT OCCUPANT AT GREATER RISK OF INJURY, WITHOUT A PARENT KNOWING IT HAS OCCURRED. SECOND, THE CONTACT OF THE REAR-WINDOW WITH THE TETHER BUCKLE COULD DAMAGE THE REAR-WINDOW GLASS, THE FABRIC ON THE CONVERTIBLE TOP AND/OR THE MOTOR MECHANISM WHICH DRIVES THE ENTIRE ROOF STRUCTURE. LUCKILY, I WAS SMART ENOUGH TO FORESEE THIS PROBLEM BEFORE LOWERING MY ROOF ALL THE WAY AFTER CHILD SEATS WERE INSTALLED. THUS, I KNOW TO AVERT THE RISK OF THE POTENTIAL LOOSENING OF THE TETHER BUCKLE. HOWEVER, I WONDER HOW MANY PARENTS ARE DRIVING AROUND AT THIS VERY MOMENT THINKING THAT THE TETHERS ON THEIR CHILDREN'S CAR SEATS ARE SECURE, WHEN THEY MAY NOT BE. *TR
