NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2013 Ford Mustang. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The contact owned a 2013 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, another driver failed to yield while entering the roadway, abruptly cutting in front of the contact's vehicle. As a result, the contact was unable to stop in time and collided with the rear driver's side passenger door of the other vehicle. The driver's side air bag did deploy but failed to inflate, which the contact related to the injuries he sustained as a result of the accident. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a storage facility and deemed a total loss by the contact's insurance provider. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. The contact did not immediately seek medical attention but later transported himself to an area hospital and was treated for a concussion, neck pain, and back pain. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Mustang. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 15V319000 (Air Bags) and 19V001000 (Air Bags). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the dealer declined to perform the recall repairs. The contact was informed that, because of the installation of an aftermarket steering wheel, the recall repairs could not be performed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Car has delayed shifting and is still down shifting when the car has already stopped. 2011-2012 mustangs have some extended coverage for this problem. 16N02. My 2013 was manufactured at flat rock in 2012 but not covered.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED IT RANDOMLY SHIFTS INTO FIRST GEAR ALMOST CAUSING AND ACCIDENT/.
Unexpected downshift to first while driving between 40 mph to 65 mph can lead to complete loss of cruise control, accompanied by a wrench symbol and an error code. Additionally, the speedometer fails to display a reading and may abruptly drop to first gear without any prior warning. signaling low fuel levels
2013 Mustang V6, 6R80 Automatic Transmission. Lead frame is failing, I am getting code P0720. My vin falls outside of the recall, so I have to spend $850 to get lead frame fixed. Airbag light turns on, dashes through my odometer, and car stays stuck in 5th gear until I cycle key.
The failed Transmission Lead Frame is causing the car to shift to first gear unexpectedly which can lead to a crash
The coolant reservoir on my vehicle has been replaced now 4 times with the first time being under 5000 on vehicle. The vehicle now has 96000. The same issue happens each time with a crack in the reservoir.
While driving on the interstate the steering control module stopped working resulting in total loss of no power steering assist. Vehicle only has 1,4711 miles. Second time this incident has occurred. Major hazardous malfunction of control module possible resulting in a accident. No warning was give on dashboard indicator. This vehicle is a hazard on roadways and putting other drivers and citizens at risk of serious bodily injury. Vehicle should not this problem with the current miles. Contacted Ford Motors Corp. refuse to acknowledge my safety concerns and refuse reimbursement for repairs. This will happen to other Ford and will result in possible injuries or deaths.
When starting the vehicle when cold, power steering assist fault appears on the gauge cluster. There is no power steering at this point. Once the vehicle is warmed up, and the engine is turned off and restarted, the problem goes away. The problem has been reproduced by an independent service center. The service center inspected the steering components and found no obvious visible fault with the components.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while driving at high speeds, the vehicle downshifted unintendedly. The transmission warning light, the check engine warning light and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module (TCM) and the lead frame control module were defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.
Was going 25mph on a straight dry road, 2 traction control lights popped up and an alert saying Advancetrac is off, which is a feature you have to be in park with your foot on the brake and hold the traction control button for 8 seconds to turn off, when the light turned on the car downshift and turned sideways causing me to go into a barrier, steering wheel airbag and passenger airbag both only broke out of the trim and did not inflate fully.
The 2013 Mustang (with 67,071 miles) transmission (6R80) downshifted to 1st gear at highway speeds exactly like the F-150 recall and would also shift out of gear. It could have been catastrophic, but was able to keep control of the vehicle. Was able to get the car home and only drove it to the dealership after this incident. The dash showed the airbag light, no mileage and the wrench similar to the F 150 issue, which pictures are available. Teh vehicle would also sporadically act as if it was in neutral. The vehicle was taken to a Ford dealership and the transmission diagnosis showed codes P0722, P0731. The repair was extremely expensive and should be recalled similar to the F-150 faulty transmission. My car shakes and after awhile of braking , it cuts off and when I get gas it doesn’t want to start.
My 2013 Ford mustang 2dr coupe is stalling losing power and engine is completely shutting down while I'm driving on the highway which could cause a fatal crash. The engine light and oil light comes on after this happens but the oil light eventually goes off. This recall is on several vehicles but not mine. The dealership has a week of waiting to take my car in. So in the meantime I have to put myself at risk and continue to drive my car. Something needs to change as to notifying use car owners of recalls.
2013 Ford mustang stalls and completely shuts down losing all power. Recall was not issued for my vin [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Mustang. The contact stated there was an abnormal fuel odor outside the vehicle. The contact stated that the “Check Fuel Inlet” message was displayed, and the emissions warning light was illuminated. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 138,000.
Goes into neutral at times ,acceleration from a stop going thru a intersection and then into neutral almost have to stop in traffic to get it to go has done it 4-5 times not consistent other then that shifts normally but very inconsistent and dangerous car has 79k miles on it.
I bought this car through carvana. They mentioned it had no issues, after 6 months of driving I noticed the car is literally flooded inside and the electrical does not work well at all. I spent alot of money trying to fix the electrical including the wipers and AC yet both keep getting destroyed. Sometimes my traction system will go off and on and it's just so annoying how the water damage is eating away at a car I'm stuck overpaying for. It is a nightmare
My son was driving and noticed a stiffness in the steering along with an occasional intermittent “ clicking” felt while turning the wheel. While going around a sharp curve the power steering failed completely and locked the steering wheel hard left forcefully. He was able to get it off the road safely and I was following him in another vehicle so I drove it the rest of the way home with no power steering. Online I found that numerous other ford owners over all models 2010-2015 have experienced the same epas failure due to a design flaw. https://youtu.be/szHMXwcp9fo This you tube video is what lead me here. Not only is the video informative of the problem, but in the comments countless others have experienced the same nightmare experience. We have parked the car as the repair can cost $3000, but worse than that if replaced under warranty the new parts fail again within 6 months and are not covered by Ford.
Vehicle suddenly downshifted on it's own from highway speed and set several malfunction indicator lamps, nearly caused a highway speed collision. Checked codes afterwards and P1500 Vehicle Speed Sensor malfunction code was present, this is a known issue with this type and make of vehicle but this vehicle has somehow been omitted from a safety recall.
I have a 2013 Ford Mustang V6 coupe with Automatic transmission. I purchased the car Certified Pre Owned through Ken Grody Ford in Carlsbad, CA with Less then ~11,000 miles on it in 2/2014. I have been complaining of a jerk/ knock at ~ 1-1.6 RPM’s when idling & driving in stop and go traffic/ off ramps/ on ramps and parking lots - it appears to come from the transmission area. Fast forward to complaining over the years during service intervals ~ 2x a year for for the works service - oil/ lube/ etc , dealer did a Transmission Control Module computer reset & advised to monitor for symptoms in 11/2020. As covid was present, the car wasn’t driven much during. However the knock/ jerk between 1-1.6 RPM’s has always been present, even returning after the TCM reset. Dealership was notified, and neglected to return calls or follow up. Fast forward to 9/15/2022, after 3-4 wks of calling and leaving voicemails to no avail from the dealership service department manager/ dealership. I set up an appointment for 9/15/2022. On 9/5 & night of 9/14/22, the car instrument cluster lighted up with all notifications, and dashes for the total mileage on the car, orange wrench light - indicating Ford Limp mode, and low fuel popup (car was just fuels 1 hr prior to driving from Costco for grocery) I left and drove up a hill when this occurred as I was going 40-45 miles per hour the speedometer dropped to 0 MPH & the car barely drove beyond 5-15 MPH. I pulled over at the nearest local street from The hill parked the car and powered off the engine. I had a OBDII Tool that indicates: Global OBD FORD. P0720(1 / 1) Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit. Severity 2 of 3. I finally heard back from dealer after calling & escalating between 9/15-9/19, once I got ahold of the customer relations managers assistant she said the service manager/ customer relations manager would call back by today 9/20/22. The service mgr states I am out of WTTY & need to cover cost of repair myself. TSB for trans. is attac
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that twice while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle began to jerk as the vehicle independently downshifted without warning. After each failure, the contact was unable to accelerate above 35 MPH. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the battery and other engine parts were replaced; however, three days later, the failure recurred. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V190000 (Power Train, Exterior Lighting). The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer where she was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
This an update to November 13, 2021 NHTSA ID NUMBER: 11440318 The problem continued and I could not risk an accident so I brought it to my Ford dealer who was able to replicate the problem and diagnosed it as failed sensors in the "Molded Lead frame". The work was performed(copies attached) and there has been no recurrence of the problem. The same problem that was in the recall for 2011-2012 Mustangs! "Randomly while driving there is the engine revs up but car does not go any faster, no response from the throttle, no power. It slams down into lower gear, at one time the rear wheels screeched. My wife was driving this time, we were in traffic and was almost rear ended. She will no longer drive the car. Sometimes the wrench light would come on when it was slamming into a different gear then go away after shutting the engine off. I had someone check for codes but none were found... more..."
Randomly while driving there is the engine revs up but car does not go any faster, no reponse from the throttle, no pwower. It slams down into lower gear, at one time the rear wheels screeched. My wife was driving this time, we were in traffic and was almost rear ended. She will no longer drive the car. Sometimes the wrench light would come on when it was slamming into a different gear then go away after shutting the engine off. I had someone check for codes but none were found. On 1 occasion I took a video on my phone while driving at asready throttle and the speedometer was all over the place, up at 40 down to 20 up then down to 0. I had the spark plugs, pcv, evap purge valve, throttle body replaced and it is not fixed. the car has 49K miles. We have owned this car since new. It happens more often now but I cannot replicate it on demand.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the speedometer became inoperable. The instrument cluster warning indicator lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and diagnosed that the lead frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
While driving my vehicle on the freeway at a speed of 60 miles an hour my vehicle seemed to downshift into first gear. This nearly caused me to crash. In addition, those driving behind me almost rear-ended me.
LOSE ALL POWER STEERING JUST STARTED HAPPENING DURING COLD WEATHER DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S A COINCIDENCE OR NOT . USUALLY HAPPENS DURING PARKING LOT MANEUVER OR DURING A TURN. TURN CAR OF AND BACK ON GOES AWAY SOMETIMES (VERY ANNOYING) STEERING IS COMPLETE LOCKED UP VERY DANGEROUS.
My 2013 Ford Mustang had some problems with down shifting, and my daughter took it several times to the dealer, they said it is probably the throttle body, so I replaced it, and thought that everything was fine. So on September last year my daughter was in an accident due to the car downshifting to first gear, the tires locked up and she swirled to some freeway wire retainers. Thankfully she was OK, So thinking that the throttle body went bad again I replaced it, and last week, I almost got rear ended because the same thing happened to me. The car shifted abruptly to first gear, locking the tires and rear swaying side to side.
I BOUGHT A USED 2013 V6 FORD MUSTANG USED IN AUGUST 2019. ALMOST SINCE THE BEGINING I'VE HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT STALLING OUT. THE ENGINE ITSELF DOESN'T STOP RUNNING BUT THE CAR LOSES ACCELERATION AND IT DOES NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THE GAS IS PRESSED. THIS HAS MOSTLY HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION BUT HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHEN NOT MOVING. IT HAS HAPPENED MOSTLY WHILE ON CITY STREETS. THIS HAS TODAY I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I PUT A CODE READER ON THE PORT AND RECEIVED THE CODE "P2111 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK OPEN." I BELIEVE THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT WAS ALLEGED WITH THE 2005-2012 FORD ESCAPE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD Mustang. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEELS LOCKED UP AND THE VEHICLE HYDROPLANED AS THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. MOST RECENTLY, THE SPEEDOMETER DECREASED TO ZERO, THE VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTED AND LOST ELECTRICAL DATA SUCH AS THE MILEAGE AS THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I WAS PARKED WHEN I TURN ON THE CAR AND SAW THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME UP. THE CAR IS ABOUT 68000 MILES AND IT'S HAVING A HIGHER GAS CONSUMPTION AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CODE ' P0456' EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM LEAK. AND PASSENGER FROM SEAT BELT BROKE. THE PART THAT HOLDS THE SEAT BELT IN PLACE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD MUSTANG. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR WITH THE SERVICE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V075000 (POWER TRAIN) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 159,000.
SPEEDOMETER SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. THEN THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED AND CAR STARTED TO SWERVE AS THE TRANSMISSION RPM WENT INTO THE RED. I HAD TO HIT BRAKE TO GET CONTROL OF VEHICLE. THE CAR HAS UNDER 80,000 MILES. I SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN AND PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN CHECKED AROUND VEHICLE. I THEN GOT I. AND RESTARTED AND ALL GAUGES CAME BACK ON AND RESUMED CAUTIOUSLY TO MY DESTINATION AT A REDUCED HIGHWAY SPEED OF 45MPH RATHER THAN 65MOH. LUCKILY NO VEHICLE WAS BEHIND ME OR BESIDE ME WHEN THE VEHICLE SWERVED.
PURCHASED A 2013 FORD MUSTANG AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON 5/31/2020. INSPECTED VEHICLE ON 6/6/2020 AND CAME OUT HAVING A BAD TRANSMISSION WITH INTERNAL CLUTCH DAMAGE AND VALVE BODY DAMAGE. WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE SKIPS HEAVILY FOR 1 TO 2 GEAR MAKING THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
I PURCHASED A USED 2013 FORD MUSTANG BOSS 302. THE CAR ONLY HAS 9,000 MILES ON IT. IT ONLY COMES WITH THE 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. IT HAS A CLUNKY SHIFT BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR AND 5TH GEAR. YOU MUST SHIFT VERY SLOWLY WHEN IT IS COLD OR IT WILL GRIND THE GEARS. I HAVE LOOKED AT SEVERAL FORD BOSS302 FACEBOOK GROUPS AND EVERYONE STATES THEY WILL HAVE CLUTCH LOCKOUT IF THEY SHIFT AT HIGH RPM'S AND ULTIMATELY WILL HAVE TRANSMISSION FAILURE DUE TO A CLUTCH THAT IS UNABLE TO PROVIDE ENOUGH CLAMPING POWER TO HOLD THE FLYWHEEL WHEN SHIFTING. NUMEROUS USERS STATED THAT AS SOON AS THEY UPGRADED TO CLUTCHES BY MCCLEOD, EXEDY, OR MANTIC, THE PROBLEMS IMMEDIATELY WENT AWAY. THEY ALL STATE IT IS NOT THE TRANSMISSION, BUT THE FAULTY CLUTCH THAT CAUSES THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL EVENTUALLY. THE BOSS 302 ENGINE HAS A 7,500 RPM REDLINE WHICH IS HIGHER THAN THE OTHER COYOTE 5.0 LITER ENGINES. THE CLUTCH CAN NOT HANDLE THIS HIGH RPM LIMIT. SO, BASICALLY FORD SOLD A PERFORMANCE CAR THAT YOU CAN'T DRIVE ANYWHERE NEAR ITS LIMITS BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY CLUTCH/TRANSMISSION. THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REPLACE THE STOCK CLUTCH WITH A HIGHER QUALITY AFTERMARKET CLUTCH. IF THEY REPLACE IT WITH THE SAME FORD CLUTCH, THE PROBLEM WILL REPEAT. *TR
n 2019, I bought a used car from a well-known dealer in Puerto Rico. I recently took it to a mechanic for some repairs, and the mechanic informed me that the vehicle's internal odometer didn't match the odometer on the car's dashboard. There was a difference of 48,971 miles. I was deceived by this dealer.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD MUSTANG. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED. AS A RESULT, THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A CURB. THERE WAS MINOR DAMAGE TO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION AND THE MESSAGE "POWER STEERING SYSTEM MALFUNCTION" WAS DISPLAYED. APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK LATER, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND COULD NOT BE TURNED AT ALL. DOWLING FORD (1011 S. MAIN ST, CHESHIRE, CT) WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 25026398. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS MALFUNCTIONED AND WOULD ONLY OPERATE IN THE HIGH SETTING. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000. *DT *TR
SOMETIMES LOSES POWER DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD
IN A NUT SHELL, LOOK UP FORD TSBS: 13-4-9 AND 13-6-8. 2013 MUSTANG, 65,700 MILES, WITH 6-SPEED AUTO (6R80) TRANSMISSION WILL SUDDENLY GET STUCK IN 5TH GEAR WHEN STARTING OR WHEN CRUISING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC OR AN ON-RAMP AND SUDDENLY STUCK IN 5TH GEAR WITH NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. NOT TO MENTION POTENTIAL ROAD RANGE FROM DRIVERS BEHIND A CAR THAT CAN'T MOVE WHEN THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNS GREEN. THE ORANGE WRENCH, AIRBAG, LOW FUEL INDICATORS ILLUMINATED, THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE DROPS TO ZERO, ODOMETER, TRIP METER, "MILES UNTIL EMPTY" METER ALL DISPLAY DASHES WHILE DRIVING. SYMPTOMS WILL CLEAR AFTER AN IGNITION KEY CYCLE, BUT RETURN. TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) P0720 IS SOMETIMES STORED IN THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. I'M CURRENTLY STUCK WITH A >$900 REPAIR BILL TO REPLACE THE LEAD FRAME ATTACHED TO THE VALVE BODY IN THE TRANSMISSION. PLEASE INCREASE SCOPE OF EXISTING RECALL FOR OTHER YEARS/MODELS WITH THE SAME 6R80 TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. FORD CSP 16N02 HAS ALREADY EXTENDED COVERAGE FOR 10 YEARS, 150,000 MILES ON OTHER VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME TRANNY, SO IT'S INCOMPREHENSIBLE THE 2013 MUSTANG ISN'T COVERED AS WELL.
WITHOUT WARNING MY ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILED. THIS RESULTED IN THE STEERING SHAKING AND THEN LOCKING UP WHILE I WAS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I THEN ONLY HAD MANUAL STEERING. WHEN I RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE, IT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MUSTANGS OF THESE YEARS AND ADJACENT YEARS.
TICK IN ENGINE AT IDLE DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECT EFFECTS BEHAVIOR OF DRIVER AND STRANGERS TOWARD OPERATOR HEARING, RESALE VALUE GREATLY EFFECTED. POOR LUBRICATION TO #1 VALVE TRAIN. TSB 12-1-17 DESCRIBES A FIX THAT CAUSES GREATER HARM BY STARVING EXHAUST CAM JOURNALS OF OIL BY USING OIL PLUGS TO BLOCK OIL FLOW THRU HYDRAULIC CAM TO THE EXHAUST CAM VALVE JOURNALS ON CYLINDER 3 AND 4. EFFORTS TO SECURE REMEDY OR REASONABLE INFORMATION TO EFFECT REPAIRS FROM FORD RESULT IN MISLEADING DIRECTIVES, OVER CHARGES AND DENIED ACCESS TO UPPER MANAGEMENT TO SECURE REASONABLE DISCUSSION AND OR MEANINGFUL REMEDY. NOISE IS ALWAYS PRESENT AT IDLE AFTER WARMED UP. LOUD OFFENSIVE IRRITATING. CONTACTED SEVERAL FORD DEALERS AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE. FORD REFUSES TO GIVE ACCESS TO UPPER MANAGEMENT FOR RESOLUTION.
SIMILAR TO NOTICE 10091155, MY 2013 MUSTANG GT IS EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS OF EITHER A) SPEEDOMETER DROPS TO ZERO, CAR VIOLENTLY DOWNSHIFTS AT 70 MPH, LOCKING THE REAR TIRES, B) SPEEDOMETER DROPPING TO ZERO, ODOMETER GOING BLANK, CAR DOWNSHIFTING TO 5TH GEAR, AND "WRENCH" INDICATOR ILLUMINATING, OR C) SPEEDOMETER MOMENTARILY DROPPING OUT AND TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTING UNEXPECTEDLY.
CAR HAS HAD THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON AND OFF. SINCE IT ALREADY HAD RECALL FOR IT AIRBAGS, IT SEEMS LIKE A FAULTY AIRBAG SYSTEM PROBLEM CONTINUES. LIGHT USUALLY COMES ON WHEN BEEN DRIVING FOR SEVERAL MILES AND STAYES ON. ONCE I TUNR THE IGNITION OFF, IT RESETS IT AND TURNING THE IGNITION ON AGAIN, THE LIGHT IS GONE, BUT WILL COME BACK AFTER DRIVING SEVERAL MILES BUT NOT ALWAYS.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR IT WENT INTO A "LIMP MODE". IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BUT THIS PARTICULAR DAY I WAS CROSSING AN INTERSECTION AND MY CAR JUST LOST POWER. I WAS ALMOST SMASHED ON EACH SIDE. A WRENCH LIGHT POPPED UP ON MY DASHBOARD AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I WAS LITERALLY STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. I HAD TO PLACE THE CAR IN PARK AND TURN IT OFF FOR 3 MINUTES. IT STARTED BACK UP BUT IT STILL DOES IT AT LEAST 5-6 TIMES A WEEK. I HAD THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED AND IT STILL DOES IT. I AM ONLY THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE AND I TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT. I LOVE THE MUSTANGS, BUT IF I WOULD'VE KNOW OF THIS VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, I WOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT IT. I CAN BE DRIVING AT 60MPH AND THIS WILL HAPPEN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND FRIGHTENING. I'VE READ THAT SOME PREVIOUS FORD MODELS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE MUSTANGS HAVEN'T BEEN. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE BY FORD. WHEN I CALLED THEM THEY JUST TOLD ME TO KEEP MY RECEIPTS. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY ARE DOING THIS TO PEOPLE.
VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY HESITATES TO ACCELERATE AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP.THIS FIRST OCCURED IN 2019 AND ONLY HAPPENED A HAND FULL OF TIMES UNTIL NOVEMBER 2020. IN RECENT INSTANCES IT HAS REPEATEDLY STALLED AT STOP LIGHTS AND IN TRAFFIC SITUATIONS WHERE I NEED TO SLOW TO A NEAR STOP, SUCH AS A YIELD OR SHARP TURN.THE RPMS JUMP HIGH AND ENGINE REVS BUT DOESN'T HARDLY MOVE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, AFTER WHICH IT JERKS SUDDENLY FORWARD AND A YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON IN THE DASHBOARD. IT HAS BECOME A DAILY OCCURENCE AND MECHANICS HAVE SUGGESTED IT TO BE RELATED TO A COMPUTING ERROR THAT THE FORD DEALERSHIP SHOULD ADDRESS.
FROM A STOP, CAR WOULDN'T SHIFT PASS FIRST GEAR. HAD TO STOP, RESTART CAR. WRENCH AND EMPTY GAS WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. WHILE TRAVELING, CAR SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR. EMPTY GAS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. HAD TO PULL OVER, RESTART CAR.
VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY NOT ACCELERATE WHILE DRIVING - RANDOMLY. THE CAR HAD NO RESPONSE. AT TIMES, WRENCH LIGHT WILL BE ON - OTHER LIGHTS TOO. AFTER TURNING OFF CAR, THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO GO AWAY, BUT IT HAS REPEATED AND FREQUENCY SEEMS TO BE HIGHER. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS THIS HAPPENS IN HIGHWAYS OR EXISTS, THE CAR IS BASICALLY WITH NO RESPONSE.
MY 2013 FORD MUSTANG WOULD LOSE ENGINE POWER AT HIGHWAY SPEED. WOULD STILL RUN VERY ROUGH, CHUGGING AT ABOUT IDLE. AFTER A RE-START IT WOULD RUN FOR A SHORT TIME AND REPEAT THE EVENT. HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACE WITH A NEW FORD ONE AND THE PROBLEM RETURNED TWO WEEKS LATER. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND I WOULD LOSE POWER. VERY DANGEROUS AT FREEWAY TRAVEL. FORD SAYS THEIR RECALL DOES NOT APPLY TO MUSTANGS.
MY VEHICLE IS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING AS THIS RECALL #19S07 - 6R80 TRANSMISSION UNEXPECTED DOWNSHIFT INTO 1ST GEAR. MY VIN SAYS THERE IS NO RECALL YET IT IS HAPPENING TO MY CAR ON A SEMI REGULAR BASIS 2-3 TIMES PER WEEK. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO TAKE IT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND FEEL THIS VIN SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE CAR JUST DROPS DOWN INTO 1ST GEAR IRREGARDLESS OF SPEED. IT IS A DANGER TO MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS AROUND ME. I AM WRITING THIS DESPERATE EMAIL TO NHTSA TO PLEASE PUT MY CAR ON THIS RECALL ASAP AND ALSO DOCUMENTING THE FACT I AM TELLING YOU ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN CASE THERE IS A FUTURE ACCIDENT FOR INSURANCE PURPOSES AND A LAW SUIT WAITING TO HAPPEN. PLEASE HELP ME. THIS VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS AND NEEDS REPAIR TODAY. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO TAKE IT TO FORD. I KNOW WHAT EVER THE COSTS IT WILL BE 500-1000 OR MORE. PLEASE RECHECK MY VIN: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
