ON INTERSTATE THE TIRE BLEW.THE TIRE WAS NOT PUNCTURED BUT IT LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE TOOK A KNIFE AND CUT THE TREAD OFF THE SIDEWALL. IT WAS THE OUTSIDE RIM OF TIRE. IT LOOKS LIKE THE PICTURES YOU SEE ON TV OF THE RECALLED TIRES.I HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY AGREE IT IS NOT A NORMAL FAILURE AND IS A TIRE FAILURE. THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE TIRES AND SAY IT IS A FIRESTONE PROBLEM. I FEEL THE TIRES SHOULD BE REPLACE BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THE TIRES ANYMORE AND FEEL THEY ARE DANGROUS TO DRIVE ON. I FEEL LUCKY THAT IT WAS A REAR TIRE AND NOT A FRONT TIRE. I KNOW I CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURE EARLIER THIS WEEK AND IT WAS GOOD.I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME WITH THIS PROBLEM. WE WERE ON THE KANSAS TURNPIKE HEADING HOME TO DALLAS, THE TRUCK WHEN WE ENTERED THE TURNPIKE HAD 2/3 OF A TANK OF GAS BY THE TIME I GLANCED DOWN AGAIN IT WAS AT EMPTY THIS OCCURRED WITHIN A FEW MILES, WE WHERE ABLE TO PULL INTO A SERVICE STATION WHERE THE LEAK WAS SEEN, THE TRUCK WAS TOWED INTO THE NEXT TOWN WHERE IN THE NEXT MORNING IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE "WHITE CLIP" HAD COME LOOSE FROM THE FUEL FILTER TO THE LINE. WE FEEL VERY FORTUNATE THAT WE ONLY LOST GASOLINE, AND THAT NO FIRE OR EXPLOSION OCCURRED. WE WOULD APPRECIATE YOU LOOKING INTO THIS AS THE NEXT PERSON MAY NOT BE AS LUCKY.*AK
THE CUSTOMER STATES THAT THE TURN SIGNAL LEVER WONT LOCK WHEN TURNING, THE DEALER STATED THAT IT IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. NLM
THE RIGHT REAR TIRE SIDEWALL COMPLETELY SEPARATED FORM THE REMAINING PART OF THE TIRE ON 4TH OF JULY, 2001, AS MY FAMILY AND I WERE RETURNING HOME AT APPROX. 8:25 PM ON I-37 N TO SAN ANTONIO. BEFORE THE TIRE SEPERATED, MY FIANCE AND I HEARD A VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISE- DURING WHICH TIME I IMMEDIATELY LET OFF THE GAS. ABOUT 30 SECONDS AFTER WE FIRST HEARD THE NOISE, THE TRUCK VIOLENTLY FISHTAILED IN THE REAR END, AND I PROCEEDED TO GENTLY APPLY THE BRAKES UNTIL WE CAME TO A STOP. THAT NIGHT WHILE I WAS WORKING MY NIGHTSHIFT- I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY WHO TOLD ME TO SPEAK TO MY DEALERSHIP. THE FOLLOWING MORNING, MY DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THIS NEW TIRE HAD SEPERATED DUE TO A SMALL PUNCTURE IN THE TREAD. FIRESTONE REFUSES TO REPLACE THIS NEW TIRE, AS THIS TRUCK WAS SOLD TO ME WITHOUT ROAD HAZARD COVERAGE ON THIS TIRE. I AM VERY UPSET BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE- I HAVE HAD OTHER FLATS ON OTHER VEHICLE THAT I OWNED WITHOUT THE TIRES SEPERATING WHILE DRIVING. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER- I FAIL TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE NORMAL REACTION OF A TIRE WITH A MINOR 2MM PUNCTION IN THE TREAD. MY TIRE MECHANIC WHERE I TOOK THIS TIRE TO OBTAIN A 3RD OPINION AGREES WITH MY ASSESSMENT IN THIS MATTER. I VALUE HIS JUDGMENT ABOVE ALL, HE HAS NOTHING TO GAIN BY GIVING ME A FALSE STATEMENT, WHEREAS MY DEALERSHIP, AND FIRESTONE OBVIOUSLY HAVE PLENTY TO LOSE IN ADMITTING THAT THIS TIRE MAY BE A MANUFACTURE'S DEFECT. GOING 70MPH WHEN REAR LEFT SIDEWALL BLEW OUT. VEHICLE HAD STARTED TO FISHTAIL BEFORE BLOWOUT, NEARLY FLIPPED OVER. HAD DIFFICULTY MAINTING CONTROL. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE HELPED CHANGE TIRE. LOOKED AT TIRE AND NOTICED OUTSIDE WALLAND CHUNKS OF TREAD WAS MISSING. ORIGINAL TIRE EQUIPMENT. BUCKLE ON DRIVER'S SIDE SEATBELT WILL NOT FASTEN DUE TO SOMETHING BREAKING INSIDE OF BUCKLE. DEALER HAS TO ORDER PART.*AK PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND PASSENGER'S BUCKLE WAS MOVED TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE SO CONSUMER COULD DRIVE SAFELY. *SLC
THERE IS A LOUD PINGING NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE AT ALL TIMES, AT ANY SPEED. DEALER REPLACED COMPUTER MODULE, AND PINGING NOISE WAS STILL THERE, JUST NOT AS LOUD AS BEFORE. CONSUMER WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THIS PROBLEM WOULD RUIN PISTONS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH RIGHT FRONT IMPACT. SEATBELT DID NOT LOCK UP, HE HIT HIS HEAD ON WINDSHIELD.ALSO, AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. CONSUMER SUFFERED SERIOUS HEAD INJURIES, VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH RIGHT FRONT IMPACT. CONSUMER SUFFERED SERIOUS HEAD INJURIES, HIT HEAD ON WINDSHIELD. UPON IMPACT, DRIVEDR'S AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY, AND VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED.*AK DRIVER'S SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK DOWN AT ALL. *YH

BRAKES WOULD PULSATE WHEN APPLYING THEM. THUS, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER TOOK A LOOK AT BRAKE SYSTEM, AND NOTED THAT IT WAS CONSUMERS FAULT FOR BRAKES BEING DEFECTIVE.*AK
WHILE IN MOTION AND SLOWLY DECELERATING TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE WILL SURGE LIKE THE ACCELERATOR HAS BEEN PUSHED IN AND THE TRUCK IMMEDIATELY LURCHES FORWARD. THIS ACCELERATION IS SO STRONG THAT APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD AND CONSUMER HAS TO RAM THE SHIFT LEVER INTO PARK TO STOP THE VEHICLE. *JG

FIRESTONE NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT TIRES WERE NOT COVERED UNDER A RECALL. *AK *SLC

TOWED TO DEALER, WHO FOUND BRAKE SYSTEM CONTAMINATED WITH MOTOR OIL. DEALER REFUSED TO HONOR WARRANTY, STATED CONSUMER MUST HAVE PUT MOTOR OIL IN BRAKE LINE.*AK
VEHICLE REAR ENDED ANTOHER VEHICLE AND AT SPEED OF 20 MPH, AND BOTH PASSENGER'S SIDE AND DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. ALSO, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP PRIOR TO COLLISION ANTI-LOCK BRAKES LOCKED UP. *AK

A CLUNKING SOUND WOULD APPEAR WHEN MAKING A TURN. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER SHOP ,AND INFORMED OF A RACK AND PINION FAILURE WHICH COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS MATTER.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 TO 40 MPH ANOTHER VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF CONSUMER'S VEHICLE, RESULTING IN A CRASH. NEITHER FRONTAL AIR BAG DEPLOYED. FRONT FRAME BENT, AND THE OIL PAN CRACKED. DEALERSHIP WAS CURRENTLY IN POSSESSION OF VEHICLE, AND NO DETERMINATION HAS BEEN MADE FOR CAUSE OF DEFECT. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS.*AK
I HAVE COMPLAINED OF CONSTANTLY RECEIVING MASSIVE ELECTRICAL SHOCKS FROM THIS VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS NEW. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED IT WAS NORMAL. THERE IS NOTHING NORMAL ABOUT THE SHOCKS ME AND MY PASSENGERS RECIEVE UPON LEAVING THE VEHICLE. IT BECAME INCREASINGLY WORSE THE MORE I HAVE DRIVEN IT. I REPORTED TO FORT CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE LINE THAT I BEGAN RECIVING MULTIPE SHOCKS EVEN WHEN I WAS GETTING GAS . THE SHOCK WAS SO SEVERE I DROPPED THE GAS NOZZEL ON THE GROUND. NO ACTIONS WERE TAKEN OTER THAN ATTACH A LITTLE NOTE TO THE REPAIR ORDER WITH FORD STATING STATIC SHOCK WAS NORMAL.THESE ARE STATIC SHOCKS ON STEROIDS, THEY WILL JUMP A HALF INCH TO GET YOU ,AND GO THROUGH A LEATHER COAT AND A HEAVY SHIRT. ON SUNDAY MARCH 25TH AT 8:30 AM I HAD JUST FINISHED FILLING MY TANK WITH GASS THE NOZZEL CLICKED OFF I REACHED FOR IT TO REMOVE IT AND RECIEVED A SPARK WHICH CAUSED A FLASH OFF AND BURNED THE HAIR OFF MY HAND. MY GIRLFRIEND LINDA MERRILL WAS IN THE VEHICLE AND WITNESSED THE EVENT.. IAM VERY AFRAID OF THIS VEHICLE AND CANNOT AFFORD TO SELL IT . PLEASE ASSIST ME ON REPAIRING IT OR GETTING IT BOUGHT BACK. *AK
AT 30 MPH VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE STOPPED AND CALL FOR A TOW TRUCK. WHEN WE LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK WE SAW GASOLINE POURING FROM THE AREA AROUND THE GAS TANK AND ONTO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM.
BRAKES ARE DEFECTED, AND WHEN APPLYING BRAKES PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY DOWN TO FLOOR. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
TIRE WENT FLAT,PULLED OVER CHANGED TIRE, NO VISIBLE DAMAGE(IE. NAILS,CUTS ETC), TOOK TO REVEL'S CHRYSLER IN STARKE FL., FOR REPAIR AT WHICH TIME UNDER LESS THAN 20 PSI TIRE BLEW AT TREAD/SIDEWALL ATTACH PT., FURTHER INSPECTION FOUND BULGES/BUBBLES INSIDE OF TIRE TREAD AREA.I STILL HAVE ALL TIRES. I OF COURSE CHANGED OUT WITH NON FIRESTONE TIRES. HAVE CONTACTED FIRESTONE DEALER, REFERRED TO LOCAL DISTICT REP, FURTHER REFERED TO REGIONAL REP IN ATLANTA AND HAVE NOT HEARED FROM SINCE. SEEMS LIKE THEY JUST DONT GIVE A DARN! I DID NOT RUN THIS TIRE WHILE IT WAS FLAT. I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY WHEN THERE WAS A SUDDEN CHANGE IN THE HANDLING. I PULLED OFF TO FIND THE FRONT TIRE DEFLATING. FIRESTONE TOLD ME THAT I DID NOT PICK UP ANYTHING, BUT I BLEW THE INNER WALL FROM DRIVING ON IT WHILE IT WAS FLAT. VEHICLE SHUTDOWN WHILE DRIVING AT HWY SPEED OF 55 MPH. TOWED TO DEALER, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A BATTERY FAILURE. *AK ALSO, THE HAZARD LIGHT WAS NOT WORKING. *YH

THE CONSUMER RENTED THIS VEHICLE AND WHILE DRIVING THE LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO TEMPORARILY LOOSE CONTROL, THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE (FIRESTONE WILDERNESS HT TIRES 225/70R15). NLM
ENGINE WAS KNOCKING AT ANY SPEED, DEALER SAID THIS WAS NORMAL FOR THIS VEHICLE.*AK
BOTH FRONT TIRES WEARING, FEATHERING AND CUPPING. ALIGNED TWICE AND HAD TIRES ROTATED TWICE AND THEY ARE STILL WEARING, CUPPING AND FEATHERING. THESE TIRES ARE GOING TO BE SHREDDED BEFORE I HIT 25,000 MILES. WE DO NOT DRIVE OUR TRUCK EXCEPT FOR SHORT TRIPS AROUND TOWN BECAUSE WE DO NOT TRUST TIRES AND WEAR ON THIS VEHICLE. WE WERE TOLD BY THE FORD SERVICE DEPT. THAT FORD WILL NEVER REPLACE THE TIRES UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. WE FEEL THIS TRUCK THEY WAY THE TIRES ARE WEARING MAKES IT VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE BUT WE ARE PUT IN A POSITION AND HAVE TO DRIVE IT SO WE CAN SHOW THE TIRES ARE WEARING SEVERELY. WE FEEL THIS PUTS OUR LIVES IN DANGER. THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AT 2945 MILES. ELK GROVE FORD WHERE WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE TOLD US THEY PUT ON A NEW TRANSMISSION AND DISCOVERED IT WAS REBUILT. THEY REFUSED TO GIVE US A RECEIPT UNTIL WE WENT THROUGH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. THEY PUT ON CROSSBAR HOLDING TRANSMISSION MOUNT CROOKED, THEY OVERFILLED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. WE TOOK IT BACK THREE TIMES FOR LEAKY TRANSMISSION PAN GASKET ON REBUILT TRANSMISSION. *AK

TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT STAY ON FOR FULL TURN OR LANE CHANGE. DEALER SAYS ITS NOT A PROBLEM AND THERE ARE NO "FIXES". THIS IS UNSATISFACTORY TO ME. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AND HELP US GET IT FIXED. *AK
UNDER VISUAL INSPECTION CONSUMER NOTICED PROTECTIVE COATING ON BRAKE CABLE HAS BEEN RUBBED AWAY. DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR. *AK
WOULD BE DRIVING AND HAD VIBRATION IN LEFT REAR. IT BECAME MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WOULD FEEL LIKE A FLAT TIRE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC COULD NOT LOCATE CAUSE OF VIBRATION.*AK CONSUMER FEELS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING OF THE LEFT REAR SUSPENSION, ALSO STATING IF THIS WERE A TIRE PROBLEM, THE LEFT REAR TIRE WOULD NOT BE THE ONLY ONE BEING AFFECTED, COULD BE A TIRE PROBLEM THOUGH, CONSUMER HAS FIRESTONE, P235/75R15, DOT 8XHLIP4. *SLC
WHILE DRIVING OVER A DITCH OR A DROP OFF A LOUD POPPING NOISE IS HEARD. *AK
TAILGATE OFTEN VERY DIFFICULT TO OPEN. ONE SIDE OF HANDLE PULLS UP MORE AND KEEPS THE LATCH FROM OPENING. OFTEN HAVE TO PUSH ON THE TAILGATE WITH SHOULDER WHILE PULLING LATCH TO GET IT OPEN. ALSO STEERING WHEEL IS LOOSE AND STEERING IS NOT PRECISE VERY WOBBLY. HAVE NOT HAD IT LOOKED AT YET BUT MY MECHANIC SAYS IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2000 RANGERS AND THAT THE STEERING KNUCKLE CAN BE DEFECTIVE AND BE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AS IS.DT
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER NOTICED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. WHEN TAKEN TO DEALER FOR SERVICE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT #2 CYLINDER MISFIRED. MANUFACTURERS EQUIPPING VEHICLE WITH 15" TEMPORARY SPARE TIRE INSTEAD OF 16", WHICH WERE STANDARD EQUIPMENTS ON VEHICLE. MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT ALL VEHICLES CAME WITH THESE TIRES, UNLESS CONSUMER REQUESTED FOR STANDARD SIZE.
