WHILE DRIVING, NOTICED SMOKE ESCAPING FROM BACK OF VEHICLE; TEMPATURE GAUGE WENT UP NOT TO OVERHEAT RANGE; SHUT OFF ENGINE; ENTIRE VEHICLE ENGULFED IN FIRE.*AK
I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH ALMOST EVERYTHING POSSIBLE ON THIS CAR. THE HEAD GASKET FAILED WITH NO WARNING, NO OVERHEATING - CAR WOULD NOT START, HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER WHO INFORMED THAT HEAD GASKET HAD BLOWN. HEAD GASKET FAILED AGAIN 7 MONTHS LATER. HAD TROUBLE WITH SURGING, RACING ENGINE FROM ABOUT 25000 MILES, DEALER COULD NOT FIND PROBLEM. FINALLY, REPLACED SPEED SENSOR WHEN OUT OF WARRANTY, AND IT FAILED AGAIN 4 MONTHS LATER. HAVE HAD TIE RODS AND BALL JOINTS REPLACED, MOTOR MOUNTS REPLACED TWICE, BRAKE PROBLEMS STARTING AT 24,000 MILES. THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR CAME APART WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. THE COOLING FAN IS NOW STICKING, WHICH STARTED AT 65000 MILES.MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THIS PART IS NOTORIOUS FOR GOING BAD, AND THAT SO MANY HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACE, THE PRICE OF THE PART HAS GONE DOWN. I FEEL THE 1993 3.8L TAURUS MODELS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, AS WELL AS THE COOLING FANS, AND I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF REPAIRS. THIS CAR HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE, HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED, AND SHOULD NOT BE COSTING ME SO MUCH TO DRIVE. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT, DUE TO THESE PROBLEMS, AS WELL AS PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD WITH THE DEALERSHIP. THANK YOU FOR ANY ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER.*AK

ABS BRAKE SYSTEM KICKS IN WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HESITATE, THEN ABS LIGHT COME ON, THEN CLOCK AND RADIO GOES OFF. *AK
THE ABS ANTI LOCK LIGHT KEEP COME ON WHEN DRIVING. *AK WHILE DRIVING, THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED, CONSUMER STOPPED IN DRIVEWAY AND ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE ENGINE BY SHIFTING INTO PARK, HOWEVER A VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISE CAME FROM THE TRANSMISSION WHEN THE SHIFT LEVER WAS PLACED IN EITHER NEUTRAL OR PARK, POWER WINDOWS WOULD NOT WORK EITHER. *SLC

VEHICLE IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SHIFT FROM PARK. A CLUNKING NOISE IS HEARD AND VEHICLE VIBRATES BADLY UPON TAKE OFF AND HESITATES WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. WHEN APPLYING BRAKES VEHICLE STILL TRIES TO SURGE FORWARD.
HORN ASSEMBLY FAILURE DUE TO DESIGN, WHEN TRYING BLOW THE HORN, THE HORN BUTTONS ARE TOO SMALL TO LOCATE, HARD TO FIND. *AK *JB
WENT TO TURN ENGINE OFF AND IT WOULD NOT STOP, KEY ROTATED BACKWARD/FORWARD. REMOVED COIL FROM DISTRIBUTOR TO CUT ENGINE OFF; ALSO, HORN BUTTONS ARE POORLY DESIGNED, CANNOT BE ACTIVATED IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. *AK

HEADLIGHTS STARTED FLICKERING, WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING, NO WARNING. *AK
LEFT FRONT TURN SIGNAL OCCASIONALLY FLASHES FASTER THEN NORMAL, WHILE LEFT REAR TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT ILLUMINATE AT ALL. *DH
ELECTRICAL FAILURES; POWER SEATS, POWER LOCKS, MASTER CONTROL MODULE. NO PROBLEMS LOCATED IN THE CHARGING SYSTEM, YET THE BATTERY GOES DEAD.
THE HEAD GASKET HAS AN INTERNAL LEAK WHICH MAY CAUSE A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. COMMON PROBLEM PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. MJS

THE RACK & PINION PULLS APART AND CAUSES THE FRONT END TO BECOME OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND ALSO CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO STEER TERRIBLY. THE RIGHT FRONT MOTOR MOUNT BURST BECAUSE IT IS HYDRAULIC THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN THE RACK AND PINION GOES OUT. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO HAS A DEFECT IN THE FOURTH GEAR RATIO AND SHOWS ON THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER WHEN SERVICED.
THE ENGINE IS DISPLAYING THE SAME SYMPYOMS AS THE FIRST HEAD GASKET PROBLEM. BRAKE ROTORS ARE BEGINNING TO 'PLUSE' INDICATING THE NEED FOR REPLACEMENT. TRANSMISSION INDICATOR BROKEN. FORD HAD A PROGRAM TO REPAIR THE 3.8 ENGINE BUT THE 93 MODELS WERE NOT INCLUDED EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINES ARE IDENTICAL. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN A REAL 'DOG'. *AK
HEADLIGHT SWITCH FAILED, CAUSING LIGHTS TO GO OUT WHILE DRIVING.
DRIVING IN BAD WEATHER VEHICLE APPLIED BRAKES, PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. DUAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK

CONSUMER WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. TT
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 TO 45 MPH AND PRESSING ON THE BRAKES TO STOP AT A STOP LIGHT, THEN PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL TO GO AGAIN, THE VEHICLE DOES NOT PICK UP SPEED RIGHT AWAY OR SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE MAKES A LOUD REVVING NOISE THEN JERKS AND JUMPS INTO THE CORRECT GEAR. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. AK
VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO BE SHIFT INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE. TRANSMISSION FAILS TO WORK. TOOK TO DEALER & WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC A NEW TRANSMISSION IS REQUIRED. REPLACED IT WITH A REBUILT ONE & THAT ONE FAILED ALSO. THE TSB IN THE REBUILT TRANSMISSION IS GONE. *AK
WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH FAILS INTERMITTENTLY. THIS CAUSES THE WIPERS TO NOT WORK WHEN YOU TURN THEM ON(RELIABLY THIS HAPPENS OFTEN WHEN SWITCHING ONE SETTING TO ANOTHER, CAUSING THE WIPERS TO STOP ALTOGETHER.) THIS COULD LEAD TO A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION, ESPCIALLY IN HEAVY RAINS. *AK
I WROTE FORD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY BASICALLY SAID TOUGH,EVEN THOUGH I HAVE BEEN A LONG TIME CUSTOMER. I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THIS IS FREQUENT PROBLEM ON THE FORD TAURUS AND FEEL FORD SHOULD HAVE TO REFUND ME THE MONEY I SPENT ON THIS REPAIR! NOSAFETY DEFECT MENTIONE DIN SUMMARY. *AK
