ENGINE FAILS TO DECELERATED WHEN TRAVELLING AT HWY SPEED. TT
ABS BRAKE PROBLEMS; WHILE DRIVING ON DRY ROAD CONDTIONS, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, WHEN COMING TO A STOP THE BRAKES PULSATE BADLY, SENDING A VIBRATION THROUGH THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR THE LAST (2) YEARS. *AK CONSUMER STATES FAILURE IS DEFINED AS BRAKES PULSATING BADLY ON BRAKING FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 70 MPH DOWN TO 30 MPH, FAILURE CAUSED BY BRAKE DISCS WARPING DUE TO CALIPER MALFUNCTION, THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE TO THIS VEHICLE. *SLC

WE HAVE JUST READ A REPORT IN THE PAPER ABOUT WINDSHIELD WIPER PROBLEM ON FORD TAURUS. WE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM ON OUR TAURUS FROM THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP.IT HAS PUT US IN VERY DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING SISTUATIONS. WHEN THIS PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED ,IF AT NIGHT,THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD GO OFF AND ON WITH THE FAILURE OF THEWIPERS, WE HAD REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH AND IT WAS'MELTED'.....THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONCERN ABOUT THIS WIPER PROBLEM.... DRIVERS AIRBAG DID NOT ACTIVATE DURING FRONT END COLLISION; HIT BY A MOVING TRUCK. TT DRIVER HAD TO BE CUT OUT OF VEHICLE AND SUSTAINED INJURIES IN ACCIDENT. *SLC
DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON FRONTAL COLLISION AT 25 MPH. TT

ENGINE MOUNTS DEFECTIVE.
SINCE OCTOBER 1995 MY TAURUS HAS IRREGULAR FUNCTION OF THE FUEL AND/OR IGNITION SYSTEMS WHICH CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL INTERMITTENTLY, USUALLY DURING HOT WEATHER. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT COMES ON AND THE ENGINE JUST STOPS. OF COURSE, I LOSE THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THIS STALLING, WHICH IS SIMILAR TO A "VAPOR LOCK" PROBLEM USUALLY OCCURS AT SLOW SPEEDS IN TRAFFIC. ACCELERATING FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, IDLING THROUGH A PARKING LOT, AND SLOWING DOWN TO TURN RIGHT OR LEFT HAVE ALL BROUGHT ON THIS UNSAFE SITUATION MANY TIMES. 100+ EPISODES IS A VERY LOW ESTIMATE OF THE TIMES MY CAR HAS BEEN DISABLED IN TRAFFIC UNTIL I CAN CHANGE GEARS TO NEUTRAL AND RESTART THE ENGINE. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE OUT OF SERVICE AND EXAMINED AT RIVERSIDE FORD AND PARKER AUTOMOTIVE IN MACON, GEORGIA WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT IN THESE MONTHS: OCTOBER 1995, JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST 1996, JULY 1997, JUNE, JULY, AUGUST AND OCTOBER 1998, JULY AND AUGUST 1999. DO YOU SEE THE HOT WEATHER PATTERN? WE HAVE REPLACED THE MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR ASSEMBLY, THE MLP SENSOR, THE AIR METER AND THE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TUNED UP TWICE AND HAD THE FUEL INJECTORS CLEANED. I USE ONLY 89 OCTANE OR PREMIUM FROM A VARIETY OF GASOLINE VENDORS. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAD FAILURES OF THE FRONT MOTOR MOUNT AND THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. I CHECKED EVERY ITEM OF THE ALLDATA DISC AND ASKED MY MECHANICS TO EVALUATE EACH POSSIBILITY. ON THE LAST VISIT TO RIVERSIDE FORD IN JULY 1999, WHEN I COMPLAINED THAT INTERMITTENT STALLING CONTINUED JUST A FEW MONTHS AFTER I PAID THEM FOR A NEW FUEL PUMP, THE SERVICE MANAGER SUGGESTED MY PROBLEMS WERE DUE TO A DETERIORATING HEAD GASKET. I OBTAINED A SECOND OPINION FROM PARKER AND AN REASONABLY CERTAIN THAT IS NOT THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THE INTERMITTENT STALLING IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHICH IMPAIRS SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE, HAS COST ME MORE THAN $1,000 IN UNSUCCESSFUL REPAIR ATTEMPTS, AND WHICH FORD SHOULD CORRECT NOW.
UNABLE TO TURN IGNITION OFF, LOCK ACTUATOR IN STEERING WHEEL FAILED. TT

CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN AND CAUGHT ON FIRE BURNED UP ENGINE . TT
AUTO-TRANS: WHILE EXITING CAR WASH, ACCELERATOR STUCK CAUSING VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD; REARENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. TT

OWNER STATES WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE HE HAS DIFFICULTY IN STEERING, WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN THE STEERING LOCKS UP. OWNER ALSO NOTES HE REPLACED RACK&PINION AND STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH STEERING. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH, OIL AND BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON, VEHICLE'S ENGINE SHUT DOWN, MAIN ACCESSORY FUSE HAD BLOWN. TT
VEHILCE WAS SUPPLIED WITH AN ELECTRICAL HARNESS FOR POWER SEATS, BUT THE MODEL THIS CONSUMER PURCHASED HAD MANUAL SEATS. SOMETHING MADE CONTACT WITH THE OPEN HARNESS, SMOLDERED, THEN BURST INTO FLAMES AND BURNED THE CARPET. DEALER SAID THAT THE FIRE WAS THE FAULT OF THE OWNER. DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE CARPET WHERE IT HAD BURNED. OWNER SUGGESTS THAT UNUSED ELECTRICAL HARNESSES SHOULD BE CAPPED TO PREVENT OBJECTS FROM COMING INTO CONTACT WITH THE OPEN CONNECTORS. TT *ML

WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH AND SHIFTING GEARS, TRANSMISSION SLIPPED FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. *AK
DIFFICULTY ENGAGING IN FIRST, AND REVERSE GEARS. TT
WINDSHIELD WIPERS DO NOT WORK AT HIGHEST WIPER SPEED SETTING. THEY SKIP, DRAG AND JAM WHEN WORKING AT LOWER SPEED SETTINGS. WE HAVE A 1993 TAURUS, VIN [XXX], AND IT SUFFERS FROM SIMILAR PROBLEMS. COROSION OF HIGH PRESSURE FREON A/C HOSE AT THE COUPLING JUNCTION OF METAL TUBING AND RUBBER HOSE LOCATED IN FRONT RADIATOR CHANNEL SUPPORT FRAME. *AK

AT 55K MILES TRANSMISSION REPLACED AS WELL AS HEADGASKETS. COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. AT 103K MILES HEADGASKETS AGAIN AN ISSUE WITH RECOMMENDED ENGINE REPLACEMENT BY FORD DEALER. THEY WOULD NOT COVER ANY OF THE WORK. REPEAT PROBLEM. *AK
THE CAR WAS IN A FRONTAL COLLISION AND THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. TT
ELECTRICAL WIRING BURNED, CAUSING PROBLEMS WITH TURN SIGNALS/RADIO/CRUISE CONTROL.
VEHICLE STALLED IN HOT WEATHER. 2 FUEL PUMPS HAVE BEEN REPLACED & TFI MODULE HAS BEEN REPLACED 1 TIME. *AK
OWNER HAS ABS BRAKES. WHILE APPLYING BRAKES THERE IS UNKOWN VIBRATION COMING FROM LEFT SIDE OF VEHICLE. OWNER NOTES THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS PARTS REPLACED, BUT PROBLEM REMAINS. ALSO, THERE ARE OTHER SAFETY CONCERNS WITH VEHICLE. *AK
THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT AT VARIOUS TIMES WITHOUT WARNING, AND COME BACK ON, CAUSING A LOSS OF VISIBILTY, AND ALL DASH LIGHTS, AND CLIMATE CONTROL. TT
DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED BUT DID NOT INFLATE COMPLETLY AT 40 MPH. TT
THE HEADLIGHTS KEEP GOING OFF, DEALER CLAIMS THAT THEY ARE REDESIGNING THE SWITCH. TT
