BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKE. DEALER NOTIFIED AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THEY WOULD LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. *AK
SPEEDOMETER FAILED THREE TIMES. THIS LAST FAILURE, HAVE NOT REPLACED YET. SPEEDOMETER OPERATES ERRATICALLY, CAUSING INACCURATE SPEED READINGS. FIRST FAILURE REPLACED, NO CHARGE, BY JACK TREBOUR FORD DEALER, DOVER NJ. SECOND FAILURE FIXED BY PRIVATE GARAGE BECAUSE TREBOUR FORD SAID NOT UNDER WARRANTY. JUST LEARNED OF NHTSA WEBSITE AND VOQ. WILL WANT TO PURSUE FORD DEALER OR MANUFACTURER TO REPLACE THIRD FAILURE AS WARRANTY WORK. *AK
FRONT ENGINE MAIN SEAL LEAKING. *ET
THE SPEEDOMETER GOES BACK AND FORTH. WHEN GOING 65MPH THE NEEDLE WILL JUMP TO 85MPH. CONTACTED THE DEALER, THEY SAID THE CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT ACCURATELY READ VEHICLE SPEED. AT TIMES, SPEEDOMETER WILL READ IN EXCESS OF 85 MPH WHEN VEHICLE IS ACTUALLY GOING MUCH LESS THAN THAT. DEALER HAS ADMITTED THAT MANY SPEEDOMETERS ON VEHICLES OF THIS YEAR AND MODEL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE REPLACED MINE TWICE (ONCE UNDER WARRANTY AND ONCE OUT OF POCKET). THE COST EXCEEDS $350.00 FOR REPLACEMENT. INACCURATE SPEED INDICATION IS A THREAT TO PUBLIC SAFETY AND FORD SHOULD ADDRESS THIS ISSUE.
CONSUMER EXPERIENCING PROBLEM WITH REAR SHOCK FAILURE. FRONT SHOCKS WENT BAD FIRST. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER. DEALER REPLACED FRONT SHOCKS, AND INFORMED CONSUMER REAR SHOCKS WERE FINE. 20,000 MILES LATER, BOTH FRONT AND REAR SHOCKS NEEDED REPLACEMENT. DEALER NOTIFIED AND REFUSED TO REPAIR UNLESS COST GOES TO CONSUMER. *AK
TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONED. ALSO ENGINE MOUNTS FAILED.
HEAD GASKET FAILED CAUSING OVERHEATING AND AN ODOR TO PERMEATE THE VEHICLE, THE HEAD GASKETS WERE REPLACED WITHOUT CHARGE PER RECALL 98MO1, AS A RESULT OF THE HEAD GASKET FAILURE OTHER COMPONENTS WERE DAMAGED AND REPLACED.
WHENEVER VEHICLE IS WARM OR HOT IT BUCKS OR JERKS. HAVE TAKEN TO REPAIR SHOP & THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. ALSO, FRONT END MADE CLICKING SOUNDS. REAR BRAKES MADE HISSING NOISES & THEN WHENEVER APPLIED, WOULD MAKE CLUNKING NOISES. WILL BE TAKING VEHICLE TO DEALER.
TO DATE, FORD MAINTAINS THIS ENGINE IS NOT COVERED BY "SECRET WARRANTY" ALTHOUGH IT IS THE SAME DEFECT AS THE 3.8L. PERSISTENT PROBLEM OF LEAKING COOLANT. TRANSMISSION IS UNRELIABLE AND UNSAFE. A/C CLUTCH, COMPRESSOR AND WATER PUMP FAILED SIMULTANEOUSLY. REPLACED HEATER HOSE FOLLOWING A/C REPAIR DUE TO CONTINUED LEAK.
WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY VEHICLE EXPERIENCED OVERHEATING AND ENGINE LOCK UP. VEHICLE TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT SHOP FOR REPAIRS. DEALER/MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AT THIS TIME. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
FUEL SENDER, LOCATED IN THE FUEL TANK, WIRING BURNED AND IN TURN SHORTED OUT THE FUEL PUMP. FUEL PUMP MODULE ALSO BURNED. PARTS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION.
TRANMISSION FAILED TO OPERATE AS OF 56000 MILES OF WEAR . CONSUMER BELIEVED THIS WAS NOT A NORMAL WEAR FOR 56000 MILES. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
ENGINE MOTOR MOUNTS FAILED.ALSO FRONT ENGINE MAIN SEAL LEAKING/EGR VALVE FAILED/ RIGHT REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER LOCKED UP, CAUSING BRAKE PADS TO WEAR EXCESSIVELY, AND ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON/OF.
EGR SENSOR ASSEMBLY FAILED CAUSING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COMING ON. *ET
SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE WOULD JUMP BACK AND FORTH WHENEVER VEHICLE REACHES 50 MPH. VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS, BUT PROBLEM REOCCURRED. DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR UNLESS COSUMER PICKED UP THE EXPENSES. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS ON THIS MATTER. *AK
SPEEDOMETER BOUNCES BETWEEN 50 AND 85 MILES PER HR.SPEEDOMETER WAS REPLACED AT 16000 MI. ON WARRANTY ,AND WENT BAD AGAIN AT 38000 MI. FORD REFUSES TO REPLACE AGAIN. *AK
THE VEHICLES TRANSMISSION FAILED. DEALER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED AND REPAIRED THE TRANSMISSION. TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN AFTER REPAIR. *NLM
SPEEDOMETER INDICATOR ON DASHBOARD JUMPS WHEN VEHICLE PASSES OVER A BUMP IN ROADWAY ORN ROADWAY SURFACE CHANGES,I.E. FROM BLACK-TOP PAVEMENT TO CONCRETE, SUCH AS A BRIDGE SURFACE. WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ON IT JUMPS AND THE VEHICLE SPEED DOES NOT INCREASE, BUT OPERATOR HAS NO IDEA AS TO WHAT SPEED VEHICLE IS ACTUALLY TRAVELING AS INDICATOR WILL OSCILATE AS MUCH AS 20 TO 25 MPH ABOVE SET SPEED.
THE SERVICE MANAGER AT ACE STATED" FORD IS AWARE THAT THE PART IS DEFECTIVE THEY ARE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE VENDOR THAT SUPPLYS THEM WITH THE PART " FORD AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO REPLACE THE PART BECAUSE THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN OVER 12,000 MILES SINCE THE PART WAS REPLACED HOWEVER THE PART HAD ONLY BEEN IN THE CAR FOR 3MOS. AND HAD LESS THAN 3,000 MILES WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS REPORTED.
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES CAR WILL SHIFT FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL. CONSUMER HAS TO STOP, AND PUT IN PARK, THEN BACK IN DRIVE,. SOMETIMES IT WORKS, AND SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT. CONSUMER FEELS THIS IS UNSAFE BECAUSE CONSUMER DOESN'T KNOW WHEN IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN. *AK THE TRANSMISSION FAILED PREMATURELY. *YH
VEHICLE WAS RETURNED FROM PIONEER FORD AFTER HEAD GASKET FAILURE, FAILURE OF HEAD GASKET WAS COVERED BY FORD UNDER RECALL, 2 DAYS LATER VEHICLE OVERHEATED AGAIN, THIS TIME CAUSE WAS FOUND TO BE MAIN CONTROL COVER GASKET FAILURE ALLOWING WATER TO LEAK IN THE OIL. FORD REFUSED TO COVER THIS FAILURE EVEN THOUGH FAILURE WAS TO TO THE SAME CAUSE AS HEAD GASKET FAILURE. SERVICE BULLETIN 96-17-14 IS FOR A NEW ELASTOMERIC GASKET FOR THE MAIN CONTROL COVER AND PAN THAT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS FAILURE.
VEHICLE SPEED INDICATOR SURGES ERRATICALLY AT AND ABOVE 40MPH - CONSTANT SOUND FROM SPEEDOMETER HEAD VARIES FROM LOW RATTLE TO PIERCING SQUEAL. *AK
SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE BEGINS TO BOUNCE TO 85 WHEN WHEELS HIT ANY BUMP AT SPEEDS OVER 55 MILES PER HOUR. NEEDLE HANGS AT THAT POINT FOR UP TO 25 SECONDS MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DETERMINE ACTUAL SPEED, OR WHETHER OR NOT THE CRUISE CONTROL IS PROPERLY SET. ORIGINAL SPEEDOMETER FAILED AT 15,000, REPLACED AT ABOUT 19,000; FIRST REPLACEMENT AT 30,000, REPLACED AT 36,000; AND SECOND REPLACEMENT AT 49,000. FORD WILL NOT REPLACE BECAUSE OUT OF WARRANTY, ALTHOUGH EVERY SPEEDOMETER HAS FAILED AT ABOUT 15,000 MILES. DUE TO THE NUMBER OF FAILURES REPORTED TO NHTSB BY TAURUS OWNERS, AND THE INABILITY TO DETERMINE ACTUAL SPEED, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IT WOULD APPEAR THAT A RECALL IS WARRANTED. $600 FOR A REPLACEMENT EVERY 15,000 MILES IS NOT REASONABLE. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A CAR IN OVER 40 YEARS OF DRIVING WHERE EVEN ONE SPEEDOMETER FAILED. *AK
SPEEDOMETER HEAD FAILURE PRODUCES ERRATIC DISPLAY FOR PROLONGED PERIODS. THIS IS THE SECOND FAILURE OF THIS UNIT - FIRST AT APPROXIMATELY 30K AND WAS REPALCED BY THE DEALER , SECOND AT 41K. *AK
WOULD BE PULLING INTO TRAFFIC & WOULD HAVE NO GEARS. COULD NOT SHIFT VEHICLE. CALLED DEALER & TOLD VEHICLE HAD CRACKED PISTONS & WAS ASKED TO BRING IN VEHICLE. THIS CAUSE VEHICLE NOT TO SHIFT PROPERLY. *AK

INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING THE SPEEDOMETER JUMPS UP AND DOWN, AND IT CAUSES THE CRUISE CONTROL TO BE INOPERABLE. DEALER AND MANUFACTER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON/OFF.
FAULTY SPEEDOMETER CAUSING CRUSIE CONTROL TO MALFUNCTION.
SUB-FRAME REAR PLATENUT CAME OFF PRIOR TO RECALL NOTICE RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT. NLM (RECALL 98V323000)
THE SPEEDOMETER SQUEALS AND THE NEEDLE BEGINS BOUNCING AND REGISTERING THE INCORRECT SPEED WHEN TRAVELING AT 50 MPH OR MORE. THIS IS THE SECOND SPEEDOMETER HEAD ON THIS CAR AS THE ORIGINAL ALSO FAILED WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. THE ORIGINAL WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BUT FORD DEALER SAYS THAT THE REPLACEMENT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE SEEN DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE IDENTICAL PART FAILURE AND AT LEAST SERVICE BULLETINS LISTED IN YOUR DATABASES. I FEEL THAT THIS ITEM PRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT OTHER COMPONENTS ARE BEING AFFECTED BY THE BEHAVIOR OF THE SPEEDO. CAN YOU PROVIDE ANY GUIDANCE IN GETTING RELIEF FROM THE MANUFACTURER? I DO NOT SEE WHY I AND OTHERS AFFECTED SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO REPLACE AN OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE PART THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT AND STILL INSTALLS AS A REPLACEMENT PART.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
I AM ON MY THIRD SPEEDOMETER FAILURE. EACH TIME THE SPEEDOMETER JUMPED ALL OVER THE PLACE MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW THE ACCURATE SPEED YOU ARE TRAVELING. THESE SPEEDOMETERS COST $400 + TO HAVE REPLACED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE MOSTLY ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. ALSO, THERE WAS A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. PROBLEM DUE TO A LOOSE INNER TIE ROD. THE PROBLEM WILL BE CORRECTED. *AK
SHORTED FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT CAUSED VEHICLE TO STALL. THE PLASTIC SAFETY INSULATOR ON THE FUEL PUMP SENDING UNIT SHORT CIRCUITED TO GROUND ON THE METAL IT PASSES THROUGH. AS IT SHORTED OUT IT DESTROYED THE RELAY CONTROL MODULE. (QCAW)
THE SPEEDOMETERS ON 1995 FORD TAURUS CARS ARE FAILING REGULARLY, AND FORD KNOWS THEY ARE DEFECTIVE. THEY ARE REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE UNITS WITH OTHER DEFECTIVE UNITS, UNTIL THE WARRANTY EXPIRES AND THE OWNER IS LEFT WITH A BILL IN EXCESS OF $600.00 TO REPLACE THE UNIT. DUE TO THE EXTREMELY HIGH COST OF REPLACEMENT, MOST OWNERS WILL OPT TO DRIVE IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION, I.E. WITHOUT A WORKING SPEEDOMETER. FORD SHOULD REDESIGN THIS SPEEDOMETER AND REPLACE ALL EXISTING UNITS IN A GENERAL RECALL AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION.
THE DEFECTIVE FUEL LINE CLIP BROKE, CAUSING THE FUEL LINE TO DROP, WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED A FUEL LEAK MAY CAUSE A FIRE. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE PROBLEM. *AK
THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WAS INOPERATIVE. THE AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. THE DEALER CLEANED THE AIRBAG SENSORES. THE AIRBAG LIGHT STOPPED FLASHING. A YEAR LATER THE AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT THE SENSOR IS CORRODED BY ROAD SALT AND NEEDS TO WORK ON AGAIN.781530 DUP OF 539949; POSTED ON 09-07-1999. *AK
WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 60 MPH AND HIGHER THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE BOUNCES AROUND. THE DRIVER CANNOT TELL HOW FAST THE VEHICLE IS GOING. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
THE FUEL PUMP FAILED AT SPEED, CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. DRIVER WAS FORCED TO MANEUVER OFF OF I-70 WITH A DEAD ENGINE AND WITHOUT POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND CONTROL NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT.
WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED AND PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO DEACTIVATE, VEHICLE REVVED AND ACCELERATED. NEVER BEEN TO A DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION AND VIN#. *AK

THE VEHICLE STARTED OVERHEATING. HEAD GASKET WAS LEAKING ANTI-FREEZE. TOOK TO DEALER & MECHANIC NOTICED AN OIL LEAK. THE TRANSMISSION OIL WAS LEAKING, BUT LOCATION COULD NOT BE FOUND.*AK
WHEN DRIVING AT FIRST NO PROBLEM. STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND THE CAR ROLLED BACKWARDS, THEN KICKED IN HARD AND WENT FORWARD. HAD INTERMITTENT TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. DEALER CONTACTED, AND INSPECTED VEHICLE. COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. *AK
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION/TORQUE CONVERTER MALFUNCTIONED.
