OIL PAN RUSTING OUT, CAUSING OIL TO LEAK OUT. *AK
THE VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED AND PUSHED INTO ANOTHER CAR IN FRONT OF IT. NEITHER DRIVER'S NOR PASSENGER'S SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. DEALER SAID THAT THEY WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO DEPLOY. *AK
SPEEDOMETER IS FAILING. AT RANDOM SPEEDS, THE SPEEDOMETER WILL GO TO 90 MPH (PINNED). IF AND WHEN I GET THIS FIXED, IT WILL BE THE 4TH SPEEDOMETER IN THIS VEHICLE. FAILURE HAS REPEATEDLY BEEN AT 22,000 MILE INTERVALS. FORD REPLACED THE FIRST 2 UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS CHRONIC AND SAFETY RELATED DEFECT THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE FOUND A PERMANENT FIX FOR BY NOW. DEALER, BOB CHAPMAN, CONTACTED FORD IN MY BEHALF, AND FOUND THAT (APPARENTLY) THE FAILURE RATE IS SO HIGH, THAT HE CAN'T EVEN SECURE A REPLACEMENT SPEEDOMETER AT THE PRESENT.
CONSUMER DRIVING WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON. STEPPED ON BRAKES, AND WHEN CRUISE CONTROL WAS RESUMED VEHICLE ACCELERATED. SINCE THIS INCIDENT, THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS STOPPED WORKING ALL TOGETHER. *AK
TIMING COVER LEAKING COOLANT.
SPEEDOMETER FAILED ON TWO OCCASIONS. 1ST FAILURE COMMENCED AT 59,000 MILES OF WEAR; AND 2ND FAILURE OCCURRED AT 77,000 MILES. DEALER NOTIFIED AND REFUSED TO REPAIR UNLESS COST IS PICKED UP BY CONSUMER. *AK
CONSUMER WAS TOLD BY AN MECHANIC THAT THRE ARE TWO DIFFERENT METALS, AND THE FRICTIONS AND CONTRAST CAUSED THE ALUMINUM METAL TO WEAR OUT AND BLOW OUT THE ENGINE HEAD GASKET. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
COOLING FAN BECAME FROZEN WITH SNOW WHICH RESULTED IN THE FAN MOTOR NOT TO ROTATING, OVERHEATED AND THEN THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. *AK
AT 70-75 MPH, HITTING BUMPS WILL MAKE THE SPEEDO NEEDLE DROP TO 85 AND CONTINUE TO READ 10-15MPH FASTER THEN THE ACTUAL VEHICLE SPEED. WILL RETURN TO NORMAL AFTER A MINUTE OR SO, UNTIL THE NEXT BUMP. THIS IS THE SECOND SPEEDO TO FAIL ON THIS. VEHICLE

WHILE DRIVING SPEEDOMETER MOVES AROUND AND AROUND, AND CONSUMER CAN'T DETERMINE WHAT'S THE SPEED. ALSO, WHEN DRIVING AT 10 MPH SPEEDOMETER WILL STATE THAT CONSUMER IS DRIVING AT 75 MPH. DEALER CAN'T DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHEN DRIVING ABOVE 55 MPH SPEEDOMETER OPERATES ERRATICALLY. IT WILL NOT ACCURATELY REGISTER SPEED LEVELS. *AK *ML
4 OF THE ORIGINAL TIRES HAVE HAD TREAD SEPARATION OVER THE LAST 2 YEARS. I STILL HAVE THREE OF THE TIRES, THE FOURTH WAS KEPT BY A FORD DEALER WHO HELPED ME OUT AFTER THE FIRST FAILURE. ODOMETER IS NOT READING SPEED CORRECTLY. AT THE BEGINING OF THE PROBLEM IT WOULD ONLY OCCUR AT AROUND 60-70MPH, BUT CURRENTLY IT HAPPENS AT ANY SPEED.*AK
TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES/SLIPS WHEN VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP, LIKE WHEN TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. TRANSMISSION JUMPS INTO GEAR ABRUPTLY AFTER EXCELLERATOR PEDAL IS PRESSED HARD. THIS FAILURE CAUSED A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AND INJURY WITH THIS OWNER WHEN TRYING TO MERGE ONTO A HIGHWAY. THIS COMPLAINT IS BEING REPEATED OVER AND OVER ON THIS WEB SITE. HOW MANY PEOPLE MUST BE INJURED BEFORE ACTION IS TAKEN?
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT THE SPEEDOMETER ASSEMBLY HAS FAILED. ONCE AT 66,539 MILES ON MARCH 19, 1998 AND AGAIN AT 82600 MILES ON DECEMBER, 30 1998. THIS FAILURE CAUSES THE SPEEDOMETER TO GIVE FLUCTUATING READINGS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTIONED, NOT READING THE RMPS PROPERLY AND MAKING A BUZZING NOISE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
SPEEDOMETER BOUNCES BACK AND FORTH WHEN SPEED REACHES 60 MPH. SECOND INCIDENT, DEALER CONTACTED AND REPLACED THE FIRST ONE, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AK.ET.
ENGINE MOUNT CRADLE BOLT BROKE OFF ON INSIDE OF THE MOUNT AREA. DEALER/MFR. NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT SHE WOULD BE CHARGED FOR REPAIRS. *AK
THE FAILURE OF THIS PART WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO BE REMOVED FROM "PARK" EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKE IS DEPRESSED. MY MECHANIC HAS THE PART ON ORDER WITH FORD FOR 5 WEEKS (NO DEL'Y DATE). WE ALSO HAVE SEARCHED EVERY JUNKYARD WITH NO SUCCESS AND YET FORD SAYS THE PART IS NOT A PROBLEM.
WHEN TURNING ON DEFROSTER IT SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING. DEALER DETERMINED THAT COMPRESSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SAME PART WAS REPLACED IN DECEMBER 1998, AND NOVEMBER 1999. *AK
TRANSMISSION WOULD MAKE NOISES WHEN GEARS ARE SHIFTED. VEHICLE STAYS IN ONE GEAR ONLY. IF VEHICLE IS PARKED, WOULD CHANGE GEARS. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER & INFORMED BY MECHANIC TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACING. INSTALLED A REBUILT TRANSMISSION IN VEHICLE. THE SAME PROBLEM, NOISE IS IN REBUILT TRANSMISSION. *AK
ON 12/08/1998 MY FATHER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHICH RESULTED IN THE LOSS OF HIS LIFE. HE WAS HIT ON THE DIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE BY A SEMI-TRUCK AT APPROXIMATELY 40MPH. THE POLICE INDICATED IN THERE REPORT THAT WHEN THEY ARRIVED ON THE SCENE THAT MY DAD WAS NOT WEARING HIS SEAT BELT. MY DAD ALWAYS WORE HIS SEAT BELT HE WOULD NOT EVEN LET SOMEONE RIDE WITH HIM WITHOUT THEM WAREING THEIR SEAT BELT. LOOKING AT THE WREAKAGE I NOTICE THAT THE ARM REST WAS DOWN AND THAT THE SEAT BELT LATCH WAS UNDER THE ARM REST. MY QUESTION: HAS IT BEEN TESTED AND/OR IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THE BELT TO BECOME DISCONNECTED DURING A SIDE IMPACT CRASH?
BOTH CLUCH AND ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WERE REPAIRED AT PULLIAM FORD LOCATED ON TWO NOTCH ROAD IN COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA. LAST REPAIR VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AND WAS ADVISED THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED.
THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE FORD TAURUS. NO SAFETY DEFECT (S) MENTIONE DIN SUMMARY. *AK
HEAD GASKET WAS RECALLED IN 1998 AND REPLACED. IS THERE ANY SIMILARITY OR CONNECTION TO THIS GASKET LEAK. MATERIAL DEFECTS, ETC. I'VE BEEN QUOTED $500 TO FIX.
SPEEDOMETER JUMPS FROM 65 TO 85 DEPENDING ON HOW LARGE A BUMP YOU HIT. DEALER INFORMED ME THAT REPLACEMENT PART WAS ALSO FAULTY AND COULD NOT REPLACE AT THE TIME.
SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE JUMPS WHEN GOING IN EXCESS OF 45 MPH. THIS RESULTS IN INACCURATE SPEED READING. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN DRIVING AT 55 MPH THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE WILL JUMP TO 80, THEN FLIP BACK AND THEN WILL CONTINUE TO GO BACK AND FORTH. THIS IS CAUSING DISTRACTION WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN AND CAN CAUSE A CRASH.
DEFECTIVE STARTER WIRE WILL DISCONNECT BY ITSELF, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BECOME INOPERATIVE. WILL NOT START. *AK
SPEEDOMETER GOES HAYWIRE AFTER IT GOES PAST 45MPH. THE 1ST TIME THE CABLE WAS GREASED, AND IT WORKED FINE. AFTERWARD , IT STARTED BACK WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. NOW, DEALER SAYS IT HAS TO BE REPLACED , AND THE PART ALONE, COST WITHOUT LABOR, $500. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AND COMING TO A RED LIGHT AND WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOORBOARD, CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE. *AK
SPEEDOMETER JUMP AND BOUNCES AROUND, I HAVE FOUND TSB'S ON THIS. THE SPEEDOMETER WAS ORIGINALLY REPLACED AT APX 29000 MILES FOR THIS PROBLEM, THEN AT APX 29000 MILES ON THE REPLACEMENT IT STARTED DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. (THIS TIME IT COST ME ALMOST $200 TO FIX, THE FIRST TIME IT WAS FREE). THE FIRST TIME IT WAS FIXED AT THE PURCHASED DEALER (MARION FORD, ILLINOIS), THE SECOND TIME AT ANOTHER FORD DEALER(SPARTA FORD, ILLINOIS). THE SECOND TIME THE FORD DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED.

RADIATOR FAILED BETWEEN PLASTIC EXPANSION TANK AND ALUMINUM RADIATOR CORE. SAME DEFECT IN 1994 COUGAR, NHTSA OID # 736817. SAME DEFECT IN SON'S 1995 TAURUS. CLEARLY A DESIGN DEFECT IN ALL FORD PLASTIC/ALUMINUM CORE RADIATORS. COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY IF ENGINE OVERHEATS AND FAILS UNDERWAY. *AK
TRANMISSION: GRINDING NOISE HEARD AT START-UP. VEHICLE LURCHED WHEN PLACED IN REVERSE. WHEN STOPPED AT INTERSECTION, VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD AND WOULD NOT MOVE IN DRIVE. VEHICLE WOULD OPERATE WHEN PLACED IN NEUTRAL. WHEN VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN PARK, IT WOULD NO LONGER OPERATE IN ANY GEAR. SPEEDOMETER: SPEEDOMETER BOUNCES, MAKES NOISE AND THE NEEDLE PEGS AT 85 MPH WHEN CAR HITS BUMP IN ROAD OR GOES ABOVE 55 MPH. SPEEDOMETER HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE PREVIOUSLY.
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED,WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING, WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS THE VEHICLE ISN'T CATCHING ANY POWER OR GAS RIGHT AWAY, CAUSING THE MOTOR TO SPIN AND JUMP INTO GEAR. *AK
THE TRANSMISSION WAS LEAKING FLUID. HAD THE SEALS CHANGED TWICE. TRANSMISSION STILL LEAKED. TOOK TO MECHANIC & WAS INFORMED TORQUE CONVERTOR NEEDED REPLACING. HAD PROBLEM SHIFTING. NOW INFORMED TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *AK
THE AIRBAG WENT OFF AS IT SHOULD HAVE BUT THE HOT GASES BURNED MY RIGHT WRIST

PISTON IN THE FOWARD CLUTCH PLATE HAS GONE BAD, CAUSING THE VEHICLE NOT TO GO INTO THE DRIVE GEAR. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK

SPEEDOMETER BUZZES AND JUMPS 10-20 MPH MAKING ABILITY TO TELL SPEED IMPOSSIBLE. THIS IS THE SECOND FAILURE. THE FIRST OCCURRED AT 35000 MILES, AND WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT 35000 MILES ON THE REPLACEMENT. DEALERS AND FORD HAVE R
RECALL # 98M01KAA, HEAD GASKETS PREMATURELY FAILED, CAUSING ENGINE PROBLEMS. DEFECTIVE GASKET CAUSED ENGINE PROBLEMS BEFORE THE RECALL, BUT DID NOT REPLACE THE HEAD GASKET. WHEN THE RECALL WAS ISSUED, HAD THE ENGINE HEAD GASKET REPLACED, BUT IT CAUSED MORE DAMAGING ENGINE PROBLEMS WHICH FORD WAS NOT GOING TO COVER. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFOR ATION. *AK
AFTER 35 MPH SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE BOUNCES TO 100. CONSUMER DOES NOT KNOW HOW FAST HE IS TRAVELING. FORD HAS ISSUED A TSB BULLETIN ON THIS REOCCURRING PROBLEM. *AK
HEAD GASKET STARTED TO LEAK WHILE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING, CAUSING VEHICLE TO BE IMOPERATIVE. NHTSA INVESTIGATION # 1E 98 080. DEALER/ MFR NOTIFIED AND REFUSED TO REPAIR UNLESS COST GOES TO CONSUMER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 70 MPH THE SPEEDOMETER HAD FAILED FOR SECOND TIME. DRIVER COULDN'T SEE HOW FAST HE WAS GOING. CONSUMER WILL CONCTACT DEALER. *AK
THE SPEEDOMETER HEAD DOESN'T READ THE CORRECT SPEED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION DEPENDS ON THE SPEEDOMETER TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY IN ORDER FOR IT TO SHIFT CORRECTLY. I AM ALSO AWARE OF AT LEAST ONE OTHER PERSON WHO HAS THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD BY A MAJOR DISTRIBUTOR THAT THIS PART IS COMMONLYREPLACED ON THIS MODEL AS WELL AS ON THE FORD AEROSTAR OF THE SAME YEAR.
I HAVE TWO 1995 TAURUS SEDANS. BOTH HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND BOTH HAVE HAD THE SPEEDOMETER ASSEMBLIES REPLACED PREVIOUSLY. THIS IS THE SECOND FAILURE ON EACH CAR. THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE JUMPS 15 TO 20 MPH WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
HAD A FRONTAL IMPACT AND THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHICH DID NOT PROTECT THE OCCUPANT IN THIS ACCIDENT. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
