SINCE WE PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IT HAS LURCHED FORWARD WHEN BEING STARTED. THE TRANSMISSION HAS HAD A HARD TIME SHIFTING, REVING THE ENGINE UP, THEN JUMPING INTO GEAR. WE HAVE HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR VARIOUS PROBLEMS. RECENTLY THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN MAKING NOISE AND SHIFTING BADLY. ON A TRIP WE FOUND THAT IT WAS LOW ON TRANSMISSION FLUID ALTHOUGH IT HADN'T LEAKED. WE REPLACED THE FLUID AND STARTED DRIVING HOME, CHECKING THE FLUID SEVERAL TIMES. WE LOOKED IN THE REAARVIEW MIRROR AT ONE POINT AND SAW SMOKE COMING OUT THE BACK. FLUID HAD LEAKED ON THE ENGINE AND EXHAUST. WE ALSO DISCOVERED SMALL DROPS OF FLUID ON THE BACK BUMPER OF THE CAR. WHEN WE GOT HOME, WE PARKED THE CAR, STILL NO LEAK WHEN SITTING STILL. I BACKED THE CAR UP TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO BE CHECKED BUT WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE IT WON'T ENGAGE IN ANY FORWARD GEARS. I THEN TRIED GOING BACKWARD AGAIN, NOTHING. I T HAS DIED. I CALLED THE DEALER AND STATED I BELIEVE THIS IS A FORD DEFECT, ESPECIALLY AFTER READING ALL THE PROBLEMS THEY HAVE HAD WITH TRANSMISSIONS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD TOO BAD. THEY WILL BE HAPPY TO REPLACE IT AT MY COST. WHY WOULD I WANT ANOTHER BAD TRANSMISSION. *AK
REAR AXLE ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE BROKE WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. DEALER/ANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. *AK
LOSS OF LIGHTS AND ELECTRICAL SERVICES, LTERNATOR AND BATTERY FAILED, ENGINE SHUT OFF. REPLACED BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR.*AK

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED FOR A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT BOTH FRONT SPRINGS BROKE AND CAUSED DAMAGES TO BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED. FORD DEALER WAS CONTACTED. DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR THE SPRINGS, BUT NOT THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS. CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE DAMAGES.*AK

1999 FORD TAURUS SE: WHILE TURNING, STARTED HEARING GRINDING, SQEALING NOISES. POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL WAS FINE. BROUGHT IT TO MECHANIC, SAID THE POWER STEERING RACK AND POWER STEERING PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. VEHICLE HAS 65000 HIGHWAY MILES. PER MECHANIC AND FORD DEALER, THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THE 1999 FORD TAURUS. COST: OVER $900.00 USD. PLANNING ON FILING COMPLAINTS WITH FORD AND TAKING THEM TO COURT, IF NECESSARY, TO GET REIMBURSED. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON A 5 YEAR OLD VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED BY THE BOOK! IT IS A KNOWN FACT, TO FORD AND THEIR DEALERS, THAT THE 1996 THROUGH 1999 FORD TAURUS V8 SHO HAVE DEFECTIVE CAM SHAFTS. WHY HASN'T ANTHING BEEN DONE TO PROTECT THE DRIVING PUBLIC FROM THIS MENACE. FORD MOTOR CO. HAS ISSUED LETTERS WITH REFERENCE TO POSSIBLE FRONT COIL SPRING FRACTURE / REPLACEMENT FOR 1999 TO 2001 TAURUS AND SABLE VEHICLES. FORD MOTOR CO. RECORDING STATED THAT THE POSSIBILITY OF COIL FAILURE COULD IMPACT THE TIRE, THUS CAUSING A POSSIBLE CRASH (THEIR WORDING). FORD MOTOR CO. WILL REPLACE SAID COIL SPRING(S) ONLY UPON FAILURE. THEY HAVE NO FORMAL PRE-FAILURE INSPECTION. THE DEALERSHIPS WILL INSPECT YOUR VEHICLE HOWEVER, FOR A FEE. CAN FORD BE HELD LIABLE IN THE CASE OF A CRASH DIRECTLY RELATED TO THIS ITEM FAILURE AND/OR RESPONSIBLE FOR VEHICLE DAMAGES CAUSED BY ITEM FAILURE WITHOUT A CRASH OCCURRING? *AK
WHEN I BRAKE AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES VERY BAD. THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED WHEN THE CAR WAS NEW. I AM ON MY THIRD SET OF BRAKE PADS AND THIRD SET OF TIRES IN 80,000 MILES. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MECHANICS THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS ON MY 99 FORD TAURUS BUT FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE THE STERRING WHEEL ALMOST JUMPS OUT OF YOUR HAND.*AK

THE TRANSMISSION LINE FITTINGS THAT CONNECT THE TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES TO THE RADIATOR FAILED. THIS CAUSED THE TRANMISSION FLUID TO LEAK OUT CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO JERK AND SHIFT ERRACTICALLY. BOTH FITTINGS THAT CONNECT THE TRANSMISSION COOLING LINE TO THE RADIATOR AND ONE TRANSMISSION COOLING LINE HAD TO BE REPLACED.*AK

CONSUMER RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL 04V332000 IN JULY 2004. FORD HAS ISSUED A FRONT COIL SPRINGS RECALL. THIS VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT THE DEALER STILL DOES NOT HAVE THE PARTS IN ORDER TO REPAIR. *AK RECALL CAMPAIGN. AS OF 01/04/2005 DEALER DOES NOT HAVE THE CORRECT PARTS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO THE RECALL. *TC
I HAVE A 1999 FORD TAURUS. WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH IS OFF, SOMETIMES THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL COME ON FOR NO REASON. SOMETIMES THIS IS JUST ONCE THEN IT WILL STOP. SOMETIMES IT IS SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW THEN IT WILL STOP. IT IS MOST PREVALENT DURING THE SUMMER, OR ON HOTTER DAYS. ALTHOUGH, IT HAS EVEN HAPPENED IN COLD WEATHER. I NOTICE THAT OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM, BUT AS YET IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS APPARENT DEFECT IN THE DESIGN BY FORD. IT IS CLEAR TO ME THAT THE SWITCH TOLERANCES DO NOT ADEQUATELY TAKE ACCOUNT OF EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION OVER THE OPERATING TEMPERATURE RANGES OF THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEMS I DESCRIBE ABOVE HAVE BEEN OBSERVED IN SACRAMENTO, CA, WHICH IS NOT THE WORST PLACE IN THE U.S. FOR SEVERE TEMPERATURE CHANGES BETWEEN SEASONS. HENCE, IF IT DOESN'T WORK IN CALIFORNIA, IT PROBABLY WILL BE A PROBLEM IN MORE SEVERE CLIMATE CHANGES ALSO. HIS PROBLEM OCCURS SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK DURING THE SUMMER. FORD REALLY SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND DO A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. I AM AN ENGINEER AND THIS IS CLEARLY A DESIGN DEFECT. IF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE TO FAIL TO WORK DUE TO THIS PROBLEM DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER, THIS DEFECT COULD BE DANGEROUS.*AK
WHEN FOLLOWING BEHIND A SEMI TRUCK OR A PICKUP PULLING A TRAILOR THE TURBULANCE FROM THE TRUCK OR TRAILOR CAUSES MY 1999 FORD TAURUS SE TO SHAKE VIOLANTLY AND IS HARD TO CONTROL.
CONSUMER STATED THAT FORD CHANGED THE GASKET IN THE FORD TAURUS. THE GASKET MELTED, AND WATER ENTERED INTO THE ENGINE, WHICH MADE THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE. *AK
WHEN APPLYING GAS THE CAR SHAKES. AND WHEN YOU START THE ENGINE THE CAR JUMPS.*AK
THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH IN THE STEERING COLUMNS OF THE 1997-1999 FORD TAURUS' HAVE BEEN FAILING. THIS SWITCH CONTROLS BOTH TURN SIGNALS AND HAZAARD LIGHTS. TO DATE WE HAVE HAD NO INJURY OR INCIDENT DUE TO THIS FAILURE BUT HAVE SEEN AROUND 15 TO 20 VEHICLES WITHIN OUR FLEET FAIL OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS WHEN TESTING THE HAZAARD LIGHTS BEFORE GOING OUT ON THE ROAD. PARTS WERE REPLACED BY OUR CONTRACTED REPAIR FACILITY AND THE PARTS DISPOSED OF.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH FRONT PASSENGER COIL SPRING CUT INTO THE TIRE, CAUSING A BLOW OUT. CONSUMER PULLED OVER AND CHANGED THE TIRE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED AND REPLACED THE SPRING. THE CONSUMER REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT. *AK *NM
SPRING BROKE IN TWO REQUIRING REPLACEMENT. *AK
A NEW OIL PUMP WAS REPLACED AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL KNOCKING. DEALER STATED THAT THE LIFTERS WERE BAD. ALSO, BRAKES WERE REPLACED FOUR TIMES.*AK
THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 1999 FORD TAURUS GAVE WAY UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR DOWN MY ROAD. IT JUST STOPPED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IF I HAD BEEN GOING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *AK THERE HAD BEEN NO WARNING SOUNDS OR LIGHTS TO INDICATE THAT THERE WAS ANY KIND OF PROBLEM . I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO AAMCO FOR TRANSMISSION WORK, AND PAID $2200.00 IN REPAIR COSTS. I ALSO DAMAGED THE FRONT END OF MY CAR AND MY FENCE TRYING TO ROLL THE CAR INTO MY DRIVEWAY TO GET IT OUT OF THE LINE OF TRAFFIC.
