DT: THE REAR SPRING CRACKED AND DAMAGED THE TIRE. THIS HAPPENED YESTERDAY ON JULY 24,2005. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE FRONT SPRINGS WERE BEING RECALLED BUT NOT THE REAR SPRINGS. *JB CONSUMER ADDED LEFT REAR COIL SPRING FRACTURED IN TWO CAUSING THE BROKEN PART OF THE SPRING TO DIG INTO THE INNER SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE. *TT
WHILE OPERATING MY 2001 FORD TAURUS SES, THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED WITH NO WARNING (LOW COOLANT LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE). I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OFF THE INTERSTATE WITH MUCH DIFFICULTY UNDER NO POWER. UPON INSPECTING THE ENGINE, FOUND SEVERAL CRACKS IN THE RADIATOR OVERFLOW (PLASTIC) RESERVOIR. WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE RUNNING AGAIN AFTER ADDING COOLANT. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME, BUT OVERHEATED ON THE WAY 3 TIMES. I ORDERED A NEW RESERVOIR FROM FORD FOR $103.00 AND WILL INSTALL IT MYSELF ONCE IT ARRIVES. *NM
I WAS DRIVING MY FORD TAURUS AND ALL AT ONCE THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I LOST ALL POWER OF THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATLEY I WAS NOT DRIVING FAST ABOUT 35 MPH WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AND I SAFETLY STOPPED ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. TURNED OFF AND ON THE IGNITION AND THE CAR STARTED AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. DRIVING HOME THE SAME FAILURE HAPPENED.SINCE THEN I DROVE THE CAR TWO MORE MILES BUT I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, SPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY. I AM PLANNING ON TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALER BUT I FEAR THEY WONT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR SINCE THE FAILURE SEEMS OCCUR RANDOMLY.
CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN SLOWLY WHEN A POP WAS HEARD IN THE RIGHT REAR CORNER OF THE CAR AS IT WAS BEING PARKED. WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING SPOT A RUBBING NOISE WAS HEARD. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A FORD GARAGE AND WAS FOUND TO HAVE A BROKEN REAR COIL SPRING RUBBING ON THE TIRE. FORTUNATELY IT DIDN'T BREAK 10 MINUTES LATER ON THE INTERSTATE. THE FORD GARAGE IS REPAIRING THE ONE SPRING FOR $500 AND WILL ALSO HAVE TO REPLACE BOTH REAR TIRES. WITH ONLY 60K MILES AND 3 1/2 YEARS OF AGE THIS IS FAR TOO EARLY TO EXPERIENCE A FAILURE OF THIS MAGNITUDE. IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE GETTING KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT BEFORE A RECALL IS FINALLY ORDERED??? THERE IS STILL A SUSPECT SPRING ON THE LEFT REAR THAT COULD FAIL AT ANY MOMENT. MY CHILDREN RIDE IN THIS CAR ON THE INTERSTATE FREQUENTLY, I DON'T FEEL SAFE HAVING THEM RIDING IN THIS VEHICLE IN IT'S CURRENT CONDITION. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL IMMEDIATELY TO PROTECT THE THOUSANDS OF FAMILIES WHO ARE RIDING IN THESE POTENTIAL DEATH TRAPS.
FRACTURE FAILURE OF BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS. *JB
DT: CONSUMER OWNED A 2001 FORD TAURUS. ON 7-10-05 WHEN DRIVING AT 10 MPH THE REAR SPRING HAD RUSTED TO THE POINT OF DECAY, CAUSING THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE TO COME DOWN ON TOP OF THE TIRE. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE REAR COIL SPRING. WHEN HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, THEY TOLD CONSUMER IT WAS BEYOND WARRANTY. CONSUMER KNEW THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FRONT SPRING COIL THIS WAS THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. *AK *JB
DT: THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE COIL SPRINGS UNLESS IT FAILED. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING THE ISSUE. RECALL# #04V332000.
1. NO INITIAL PROBLEM NOTED. TOOK CAR IN FOR ROUTINE SERVICE AND RECALL TO INSTALL SHEILDS AROUND FRONT COIL SPRINGS. 2. DEALER CALLED AND NOTIFIED ME OF THE FACT THAT THE REAR SPRINGS WERE BROKEN. 3. DEALER OFFERED TO REPLACE SPRINGS FOR $100 DEDUCTIBLE CHARGE, LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE SPRINGS THAT FORD IS NOT OWNING UP TO.
2001 TAURUS BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY HEARD NOISE IN LEFT REAR AND SMELLED ODOR OF BURNT RUBBER. PULLED BACK IN DRIVEWAY AND FOUND LEFT REAR SPRING FRACTURED AND DEEPLY SCORED INSIDE OF TIRE. PUT ON DOUGHNUT CALLED FORD WHICH HAD RECALLED CAR IN 3/05 FOR SPRING SHIELDS AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COVERED REPAIR FOR BOTH SPRINGS AND TIRE. LEFT CAR AT DEALER BUT LATER INFORMED BY DEALER AND THEN FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT WARRANTY FIX ONLY AVAILABLE FOR FRONT COIL SPRINGS. ALL SPRINGS INSTALLED AT SAME TIME AS CAR WAS BUILT, FORD IS AWARE OF SPRING FRACTURES TO POINT OF INSTALLING SHIELDS ON THE FRONT. IN MY OPINION ALL SPRINGS SHOULD BE COVERED, HAD THIS HAPPENED AT SPEED THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPIC TIRE FAILURE IN LEFT REAR. BEEN DRIVING 45 YEARS AND NEVER EVEN HEARD OF A SPRING FAILURE,THIS WILL GET WORSE AS CARS AGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A WATER LEAK IN THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LEAK WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE BLOWER MOTOR AND THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT SHE REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR A TOTAL OF SIX TIMES, BUT IT FAILED TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
MY 2001 FORD TAURUS REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKE UPON REVERSING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. I CALLED MY MECHANIC WHO THEN ADVISED ME NOT TO EVEN TRY TO DRIVE IT TO HIS SHOP FOR FEAR OF PUNCTURING A TIRE. I THEN CALLED A FLATBED TOW TRUCK TO TAKE IT FOR REPAIRS. THE COST FOR THE REAR COIL SPRINGS WAS $513.50 PLUS TOW. IF I DID NOT HAVE IT TOWED THAT WAY, THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE TIRES WOULD HAVE BEEN PUNCTURED. *NM
TOOK MY WIFES 2001 TAURUS TO LOCAL MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND WAS INFORMED BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS ARE BROKEN. NO APPEARENT REASON FOR FAILURE. CAR HAS 56K ON ODOMETER.LOCAL GARAGE STATES THEY SEE THIS PROBLEM OFTEN ON TAURUS/SABLE MODELS. CONTACTED DEALER FOR APPOINTMENT FOR FRONT SPRING RE-CALL AND WAS TOLD THEY KNOW OF NO PROBLEM WITH REAR COILS. FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS TOOK MY COMPLAINT AND STATED THEY HAVE NO TECHNICAL BULLITENS ISSUED ON THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A COSTLY REPAIR. SPRINGS LOOK TO BE IDENTICAL ON FRONT AND REAR.
I OWN A 2001 FORD TAURUS. WE HAVE BEEN HAVING AN ON GOING OIL FILTER LEAK. WE HAVE DEALER PAPERWORK TO PROVE IT. I FOUND ON-LINE A TSB 01-20-4 SHOWING THE PROBLEM. WE WENT TO DREW FORD TODAY 6-14-05. THE PROBLEM IS THE MACHINED LINES ON THE OIL FILTER MOUNTING SURFACE. OUR SERVICE WRITER TOLD US WE'LL BE CHARGED 60.00 TO FIND THE LEAK. WHEN IT'S PLAIN AS DAY WHERE ITS LEAKING. WE'RE TOLD THE WARRANTY IS THE LST 36,000 MILES ONLY, BUT WE HAVE BEEN REPORTING THIS ALL ALONG TO FORD. WHEN I FOUND THIS TSB ON-LINE NUMBER 01-20-4. I WANT MY CAR FIXED FOR FREE.THIS IS A HAZARD,NOT ONLY THE SMELL OF BURNING OIL, BUT THE FIRE HAZARD, THE DEALER SAID THERE IS A CHANCE IF IT IS FIXED IF ALL THE METAL AND SANDPAPER DEBRIS FROM THE OIL FILTER PAD ENTER THE ENGINE OR OIL THIS COULD LEAD TO ENGINE BEARING DAMAGE. SO NOW THIS IS A CATCH 22. I HAVE PASSED THE 36,000 MILES., HAVING OVER 90,000 MILES. I TOLD THE DEALER ( DREW FORD) IN LA MESA CA I LEAVE ON VACATION, I'M DRIVING TO MN 6-19-05. 5 DAYS FROM NOW. THIS SHOULD BE A RE-CALL. IT IS FOR 2001 TAURUS, RANGER AND 2001 SABLE MODELS.
DT: FORD RECALLED FRONT SPRINGS. HOWEVER, THE REAR SPRINGS HAVE PENETRATED THE TIRE TREAD AND THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE. BOTH SPRINGS BROKE, BUT ONLY ONE PENETRATED THE TIRE. SPOKE WITH DEALER AND FORD AS WELL AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM. FELT THIS WAS UNSAFE AND WANTED A RECALL ON THE REAR AS WELL. FORD SAID IT WAS NOT ON THE STEERING WHEEL SIDE SO THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT WITH A TIRE PUNCTURED WITH THE SPRINGS IT WOULD NOT AFFECT THE STEERING . *AK
I FIRST NOTICED A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF MY 2001 FORD TAURUS. LOOKING UNDER THE REAR OF THE CAR I NOTICED A GOUGE AROUND THE ENTIRE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE. AFTER REMOVING THE LEFT REAR TIRE I FOUND THE REAR COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN AND WAS GOUGING THE TIRE.I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT WHITMOYER FORD IN MT. JOY, PA. TO ASK IF THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL ON THE REAR SPRINGS OF THIS VEHICLE. HE SAID THERE WAS NOT. I THEN CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE AT FORD IN MICHIGAN AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM AND REQUESTED IF THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT COULD BE REPAIRED AT NO COST TO ME AS THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY BEEN DRIVEN 16,227 MILES. I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT 15 TO 20 MILES TO HAVE THE PROBLEM EVALUATED BEFORE A DECISION COULD BE MADE IF ANY OF THE COST WOULD BE PAID BY FORD. I WAS SUPRISED BY THE LACK OF CONCERN BY FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO AN OBVIOUS SAFETY DEFECT.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LOWER ON ONE SIDE IN THE REAR. HE JACKED UP THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING HAD FAILED AND WAS PUNCTURING THE TIRE. HE SPOKE WITH THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE PARTLY SUNNY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 116,000. UPDATED 07/19/07. *JB
DT: ONE OF THE REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKE AND PUNCTURED THROUGH THE TIRE AND SLASHED IT ALL THE WAY AROUND. IT HAPPENED WHILE GOING ABOUT 10-15 MPH. NOTICED IT WHEN REPLACING THE TIRE. HAD ORIGINALLY THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A BLOW OUT. LOOKED AT THE AXLE AREA, AND PART OF THE COIL SPRING WAS STICKING OUT.*AK DEALERSHIP FOUND REAR STRUTS WERE BAD DUE TO BROKEN REAR COIL SPRINGS AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. MANUFACTURER NOT WILLING TO FIX UNDER RECALL. *TT *NM
ON JUNE 4TH, I WAS TRAVELLING ON I-95 SOUTH BOUND (NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE) WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY 2001 FORD TAURUS LOST POWER, AND STALLED OUT. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER. I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE HEAD GASKET MAY BE THE CAUSE. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER THEY ADVISED THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED, SINCE THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. I ONLY HAVE 33,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, AND THIS SHOULD NEVERE HAPPEN TO ANY FORD PRODUCT, ESPECIALLY WITH 33,000 MILES. OBVIOUSLY, THEIR IS AN ENGINE PROBLEM THAT FORD MAY NOT WANT TO ADDRESS, AND AS ALWAYS THE CONSUMER GETS THE SHORT END OF THE STICK. I STRONGLY BELIVE THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE DEFECT WITH THIS MODEL ENGINE AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED.
DT: WITHOUT WARNING THE HEAD GASKET BLEW OUT. WHILE DRIVING CALLER LOST POWER AND HAD TO PULL OFF THE SIDE OF ROAD. VEHICLE WAS TOWED. DEALER WILL NOT COVER THE DAMAGES BECAUSE WARRANTY EXPIRED. MANUFACTURER SAID THE SAME THING. *AK
COMPLAINT REGARDING THE 2001 FORD TAURUS FRONT COIL SPRING RECALL REPAIRS. *MR RECALL CAMPAIGN#04V332000. THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN THE TIRE BLEWOUT BECAUSE IT WAS RIPPED COMPLETELY AROUND DUE TO A REAR CRACKED COIL SPRING. *SC THE CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE 3 SERPENTINE BELTS. *JB
DT: 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE CONSUMER STATED THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE SPRING SPUN OFF ITS PERCH AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THIS DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS IN THE AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND THE SPARE TIRE WAS PUT ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP FOUND A RECALL FOR THE FRONT SPRINGS AND REPLACED THEM, AS WELL AS THE PERCH AND THE TIRE. *AK
DT: FRONT COIL SPRING FRACTURED, CAUSED TIRE TO GO FLAT. CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT 10 MPH. *TT
WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS APPROX 55 MPH, MY PASSENGER REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. I PULLED OVER AND PUT ON MY SPARE TIRE (DONUT). LATER THAT DAY I REPLACED IT WITH A BRAND NEW TIRE. WITHIN 20 MILES THE SAME TIRE BLEW OUT AGAIN. AFTER LOOKING UNDERNEATH I DISCOVERED THE COIL OVER THE STRUT HAD RIPPED OPEN THE TIRE LIKE A CAN OPENER. *JB *NM
DRIVING TO WORK AND A GRINDING NOISE CAME FROM RIGHT REAR OF CAR. METAL GRINDING AGAINST MEYTAL NOISE. MOMENTS LATER THE RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. SOMETHING HAD MADE A GOUGE IN THE INNER PART OF THE TIRE. AFTER THE CAR WAS PLACED ON THE TOW TRUCK, I COULD SEE A PIECE OF METAL DRAGGING. THE REPAIR SHOP CALLED A SAID THE REAR RIGHT SPRING BROKE AND DAMAGED THE TIRE. I BELIEVE RUSTING CAUSED THE FAILURE.
THERE WAS NO MEANINGFUL EVENT OR EVIDENCE (NOISE, ETC.)PRECEEDING THE DISCOVERY OF THE FAILURE OF BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS. I VISUALLY SAW THEM AFTER BEING REMOVED AND THEY HAD CORRODED AND SNAPPED COMPLETELY THROUGH. THEY WERE FOUND AFTER REQUESTING AN INSPECTION PRIOR TO THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE FORD DEALER SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM, BUT NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. I CARRY NO WEIGHT IN THE BACK OF MY CAR EXCEPT 3 TIMES WEEKLY I HAVE MY GRANDCHILDREN AGES 2 AND 3 1/2 YEARS!! REPAIR REQUIRES THE REPLACEMENT OF STRUTS AS WELL. AFTER GETTING A SECOND OPINION WHERE THE SECOND COIL SPRING WAS IDENTIFIED, I HAD THE REPAIR COMPLETED AT A NON-FORD REPAIR FACILITY.
DT: THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR A REGULAR OIL CHANGE ON MAY 10, 2005. THE MECHANIC TOLD HIM THAT THE REAR COIL SPRING BROKE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE THAT IT HAPPENED. HE FIGURED THAT IT HAPPENED SOMETIME BETWEEN FEBRUARY AND MAY. THERE IS AN ON GOING INVESTIGATION FOR THIS ISSUE BY THE NHTSA , PE05054. THE CONTACT KNEW THAT THERE HAS BEEN NHTSA RECALL 04V332000 FOR FRONT COIL SPRING. HE WANTED TO FIND OUT AS TO WHY THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE REAR COIL SPRINGS. *AK UPDATED 11/16/05. *JB
DT: WHEN SHE GOT IN TO CAR SHE HEARD A LOUD POP.WENT TO DEALER AND FOUND OUT THE REAR COIL SPRING BROKE ON PASSENGER'S SIDE . DEALER SAID SHE WAS LUCKY TO MAKE IT TO DEALER. HAD SHEILDS PUT ON FRONT COIL SPRINGS A FEW MONTHS AGO BECAUSE OF RECALL LETTER SHE GOT IN SEPTEMBER. REAR COIL SPRINGS ARE NOT IN RECALL. HAS CALLED MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE NOT IN RECALL AND ITS UP TO HER TO PAY FOR IT. REPAIR WAS ABOUT $300.00. SHE STILL HAS LEFT REAR COIL SPRING ON HER CAR AND SHE IS AFRAID IT MIGHT GO ALSO.*AK
DT: WHEN PLACING KEY IN THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START. THIS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY. SOMETIMES IT WOULD NOT START WHATSOEVER. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALER ONCE. ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AT THE DEALERSHIP. DEALER SAID THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS A FAULTY STARTER, BUT AFTER A COUPLE OF WEEKS THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN EVEN AFTER STARTER WAS REPLACED. IN THIS PROCESS OF BACK AND FORTH TO DEALER ON 4 DIFFERENT TIMES THERE WAS SEVERAL REPAIRS OF STARTER, SENSOR, COMPUTER BOARD, AND SOME OTHER ELECTRONIC COMPONENT AND THESE ALL STEMMED FROM PLACING KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. DEALER SAID THIS WAS IGNITION AND STARTER RELATED. THIS IS STILL A PROBLEM. DEALER BUSINESS MANAGER HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY. *AK
IN MAY OF 2005 THE REAR COIL SPRINGS OF MY 2001 FORD TAURUS BOTH BROKE AND THE LEFT COIL SPRING PUNCTURED MY TIRE CAUSING A RAPID LOSS OF AIR. THE COIL SPRINGS ON THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE BROKE IN JUNE OF 2004 (AND NOW HAVE PROTECTIVE SHIELDS DUE TO THE RECALL IN AUGUST OF 2004). ALL FOUR COIL SPRINGS ON MY VEHICLE HAVE BEEN REPLACED. MY VEHICLE IS NOW REGISTERED IN VIRGINIA BUT HAD OVER 75000 MILES PUT ON IT IN PENNSYLVANIA- I BELIEVE THAT IF MY VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REGISTERED IN PENNSYLVANIA AT THE TIME OF THE FRONT SPRING RECALL I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE RECALL. THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN MY AREA WAS RELUCTANT TO PLACE THE RECALL PROTECTIVE SHIELDS ON THE FRONT OF MY TAURUS. *NM

HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO DEALER. THE FRONT SPRINGS WERE IN A RECALL, AND THEY WERE FIXED. CALLED MANUFACTURER AND THEY WILL NOT OFFER TO HELP. *AK
I WAS A BLOCK FROM MY HOUSE IN MY 2001 FORD TAURUS. A REAR COIL SPRING BROKE, THE SHARP END EXTENDED OUT AND RIPPED A HOLE IN MY REAR TIRE. THE FORD DEALER ADVISED ME THAT "FORD DOES NOT CONSIDER A REAR TIRE BLOWOUT A SAFETY HAZARD" FORTUNATELY I WAS CLOSE TO HOME AND AT LOW SPEEDS BUT THE INCIDENT COST ME $411 TO TAKE CARE OF WITH NO HELP FROM FORD OR THE DEALER. VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN DRIVER HAD FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER TWICE FOR CHECK UP, BUT THE CAUSE WAS UNDETERMINED.*AK
AUTO WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY. LEFT REAR COIL SPRING SNAPPED AND WEDGED AGAINST TIRE. I JACKED UP CAR, REMOVED TIRE AND INSTALLED SMALL SPARE TIRE SO SPRING WOULD NOT RUB TIRE. DROVE TO REPAIR FACILITY AND THEY REPLACED BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS. OLD PARTS WERE DISCARDED. DID NOT HEAR ABOUT FAULTY COIL SPRINGS UNTIL RECALL NOTICE FOR FRONT COIL SPRINGS WAS RECEIVED FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY IN FEBRUARY 2006. *NM
ON APRIL 10, 2005 I WAS PLACING MY DAUGHTER IN HER CAR SEAT (LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BACK SEAT) WHEN I HEARD A NOISE IN THE BACK DRIVERS SIDE OF MY CAR. UPON LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE I REALIZED THE BACK SPRING BROKE. KNOWING THAT THE FRONT SPRINGS ARE COVERED UNDER A RECALL I ASSUMED THERE WAS ONE ALSO ON THE REAR. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY TOWED THE VEHICLE TO PRINCE FREDERICK FORD. WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THEY ASSURED ME THEY WOULD FIX IT AND TRY TO DETERMINE WHY IT BROKE. ALSO THEY SAID HALF OF THE LABOR WOULD BE TO DO A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT. ON APRIL 14, 2005 I WAS TOLD MY CAR WAS READY. AFTER PAYING FOR IT THEY TOLD ME THEY DON'T KNOW WHY IT HAPPENED BUT IT WAS FIXED. UPON LEAVING THE PARKING LOT I NOTICED THE CAR WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND NOW THERE WAS A SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR (ESPECIALLY WHEN HITTING BUMPS). DUE TO A FAMILY EMERGENCY I WAS UNABLE TO CONTACT THE DEALER UNTIL MONDAY THE 18TH. THEY TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR BACK AND IT WOULD BE CHECKED OUT. ON THE 21ST WE WERE TOLD THE CAR WAS READY AGAIN. THE ALIGNMENT WAS NOT COMPLETED INITIALLY SO THEY FIXED THAT ISSUE AND THEN DISCOVERED THE REAR STRUTS WERE BAD AND REPLACED THEM. AT THIS TIME THEY ALSO SAID THEY INSPECTED THE OTHER SPRING AND IT LOOKED FINE. THAT BRINGS US TO TODAY, MAY 13, 2005 WHEN I AGAIN PLACED MY DAUGHTER IN HER CAR SEAT (WHICH WE MOVED TO THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR SEAT) THE RIGHT (PASSENGER) SIDE SPRING BROKE. AFTER CALLING FORD TO SEE WHY IT BROKE WHEN THEY SAID IT WAS FINE, THEY SAID THEY COULD BE OF NO FURTHER HELP TO US. I DO HAVE THE SPRING THAT BROKE TODAY (IT'S STILL ON THE CAR, UNTIL I CAN HAVE IT FIXED) BUT THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T GIVE ME THE FIRST ONE. MY CONCERN IS WITH THERE BEING A RECALL ON THE FRONT SPRINGS DUE TO CORROSION BY ROAD SALTS IN MY STATE, WHAT MAKES THE REAR ANY DIFFERENT? IT IS AN ODD OCCURANCE FOR ONE SPRING TO BREAK BUT FOR BOTH TO BREAK I THINK THERE IS A BIGGER PROBLEM.
EXCESSIVE ACCELERATION. I WAS GOING UP A HILL IN DC TRAFFIC AND COULD NOT STOP ACCELERATING. I HAD TO PUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKES ON AND TURN THE CAR OFF. HROTTLE POSITOIN SENSOR WENT OUT. I SENT THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. MY EXTENTED WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THAT B/C THEY SAID IT WAS A FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEM NOT A EMISSION PROBLEM.*AK

LESS THAN THREE WEEKS LATER THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THEY AGREED TO PAY FOR THE FRONT COILS SPING REPLACEMENT, UNDER RECALL 04V332000 , BUT REFUSED TO REIMBURSE THE CONSUMER FOR THE REAR SPRING REPLACEMENT. *NM
I HAVE A 2001 FORD TAURUS. ONE OF THE REAR SPRINGS FAILED. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF THE BROKEN SPRING. THE BROKEN SPRING PROTRUDED INTO THE REAR TIRE, WEARING A GROOVE. THANKFULLY THE BROKEN SPRING WAS FOUND BEFORE A TIRE BLOWOUT OCCURRED. BOTH REAR SPRINGS AND REAR TIRES NEEDED REPLACEMENT. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS COMING OUT THE PARKING LOT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CONSUMER HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE BACK. RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE REAR LEFT COIL SPRING BROKE AND PENETRATED TO THE TIRE. *AK THE COIL SPRING HAD RUSTED, BROKEN AND WAS RUBBING THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. THE LEFT COIL SPRING WAS REPLACED. I STARTED HEARING A SOUND FROM THE REAR WHILE DRIVING AROUND TOWN. AT HOME I CHECKED CAREFULLY AND FOUND THE REAR SPRING BROKEN WITH A SHARP POINT DRAGGING ON THE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS GOUGED THROUGH THE FIRST LAYER OF CORD. THE FORD DEALER REPLACED BOTH REAR SPRING AT MY EXPENSE. IT WAS VERY FORTUNATE FOR ME THAT I HEARD THE SOUND BEFORE THE TIRE WAS SHREDDED. *JB
CAR WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER TO REPAIR RECALL ON FRONT SPRINGS, REPAIR WAS MADE AND MECHANIC THEN TOLD ME OF REAR SPRING THAT WAS BROKEN AND HAD CUT INTO THE LEFT REAR TIRE, REQUIRING A NEW SPRING AND TIRE AT A COST OF $517.46. *NM
WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY CONSUMER HEADS A LOUD SQUEALING NOISE. CONSUMER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE , AND NOTICED THE LEFT REAR COIL SPRING BROKE. CONSUMER CUT THE COIL SPRING, AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP. DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED, AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT COVERED UNDER A RECALL.*AK

DRIVER WAS BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPACE AND THE RIGHT SIDE COLLAPSED TO THE GROUND, AND THE TIRE BLEW OUT. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT RIGHT SIDE COIL SPRING AND TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND APPROACHING A STOP SIGN THE LEFT REAR COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THE OWNER LATER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. *AK ALL FOUR TIRES WERE REPLACED DUE TO CRACKING AND NOT HOLDING AIR..
