NHTSA RECALL 01-V-078-000: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ADJUSTABLE PEDALS. IF THE GREASE FROM THE ADJUSTABLE PEDAL ASSEMBLY ENTERS THE STOP LAMP SWITCH, IT CAN CONTAMINATE THE CONTACTS LEADING TO CARBON BUILD UP, AND POTENTIALLY, A SHORT CIRCUIT. CONSUMER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, AND DEALER ADMITTED SWITCH WAS THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT WARNING VEHICLE SHUT DOWN, AND THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. VEHICLE WILL RESTARTED ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE MECHANIC AT DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE HEARD CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD POPPING SOUND AND SOON DISCOVERED THE LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONSULTED ABOUT THE PROBLEM.*AK *LA *JB
HAVE COMPLAINED TO DEALER/FORD MOTOR COMPANY RE: FOUL ODOR WHEN HEAT IS RUNNING. WAS TOLD THAT I PROBABLY HAD A HIGH SENSITIVITY TO ALLERGIES. COMPLAINED ABOUT HAVING TO REPLACE BREAKS AT 15,000 MILES. HAD TO REPLACE OIL GASKET PAN TWICE WITHIN THE SAME YEAR. DEALERSHIP DID NOT FIND THIS UNUSUAL. CAR ACCELERATES WITHOUT WARNING SOMETIMES. THE MOTOR IS MAKING A RUSHING NOISE. WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS THE NORMAL SOUND OF THE MOTOR ALTHOUGH IT DID NOT START UNTIL SIX MONTHS DOWN THE ROAD. HAD TO TAKE CAR BACK TO REPLACE BACK/WARPED WINDSHIELD AFTER HAVING IT ONE DAY. DEALERSHIP WILL NOT EVEN ALLOW ME TO TRADE VEHICLE AND DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE FACT THAT TOO MANY THINGS HAVE GONE WRONG IN TOO SHORT A PERIOD OF TIME. PURCHASED VEHICLE IN 2002. *LA
I HAD BEEN HEARING A NOISE IN THE REAR OF MY CAR BUT THE DEALER KEPT SAYING THEY COULD NOT HEAR IT. WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN MY BRAKES LOCKED UP AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER SAID THAT I HAD BEEN DRIVING WITH MY PARK BRAKE ON AND THAT VOIDED MY WARRANTY. I HAD NEVER USED THE PARKING BRAKE. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE BRAKE WORK AND NEW DRUMS. SINCE THEN I'VE HAD THE BRAKES RE-DONE TWICE. THIS SHOULD NOT NEED TO BE DONE SO OFTEN ,SHOULD IT? *JB
INTERMITTENT AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT. TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER THEY WERE ABLE TO TEST VIA NGS HOOKUP, WHICH SHOWED CODE U2017. REPLACED PART YF1Z-14B321-EA CONTR ASY-OCC., PER SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGE #14579. THOUGHT THIS MIGHT BE OF INTREST GIVEN THERE IS A INQUIRY INVOLVING THE 2001 TAURUS AIR BAG SYSTEM. *AK
CONSUMER STATES WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE RPMS RISE AND THEN FALL. ALSO, WHEN PUTTING VEHICLE IN REVERSE IT SURGES BACKWARD. THIS VEHICLE IS A 2000 VERSION OF THE FORD TAURUS. THEN, THE DEALER PUT HIM INTO A 2001 FORD TAURUS, AND THAT VEHICLE DID THE SAME THING. WHEN HE COMPLAINED, THE DEALER SAID THAT THIS WAS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS VEHICLE. CONSUMER STATES THIS VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS- BECAUSE ONE NEVER KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO SURGE FORWARD OR BACKWARD.*AK *TS *JB
TREAD SEPARATION ON THE TIRE, THE DEALER REPLACED ONE IN FRONT AND WE HAD TO SPEND OUR FUNDS TO REPLACE THE OTHER. TIRE IS P215-60-R16 94T M+S. INFINITY TOURING T3. ONE IN BACK WILL NEED REPLACE SINCE THE TREAD IS SEPERATING. THE TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE THE MILAGE ON OUR TAURAS IN 31,000 THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY.*AK
I HAVEN'T GOT REPAIR DONE YET. TRANSMISSON HAS ALWAY HAD A SLIGHT SLIP. IT TOTALLY SLIPPED OUT IN LOW GEAR THE OTHER DAY.
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: FOUNDATION COMPONENTS: DISC: ROTOR ON 2001 FORD TAURUS -- HAVE REPLACED ROTORS TWICE AND TIRES ONCE SINCE PURCHASING VEHICLE IN JANUARY 2003 W/ ONLY 30K MILES ON IT. NOW HAVE 49K MILES AND THE STEERING WHEEL PRACTICALLY JUMPS OUT OF MY HANDS WHILE BRAKING DUE TO THE ROTORS WHICH WERE PUT ON ONLY 2 MONTHS AGO AFTER DEALERSHIP BILLED FORD FOR SHAVING ROTORS BELOW SAFETY SPECIFICATIONS AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. FORD NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE EXTREME HEAT GENERATED THEREBY CAUSING ROTORS TO HAVE TO BE REPLACED EVERYTIME INDIVIDUAL MUST SUDDENLY STOP ! VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A SINGLE CAR COLLISION WHERE IT ROLLED INTO A DITCH, THEN STRUCK A CONCRETE "CULVERT" HEAD-ON. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. *AK *SCC *JB
REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LATCH. DOOR DOES NOT FULLY LATCH UNLESS ABNORMAL FORCE IS USED TO SHUT THE DOOR.*AK
VEHICLE WAS IN A HEAD ON COLLISION, AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. DRIVER IMPACTED THE STEERING WHEEL.*AK
THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 5/30/2003 BECAUSE A NOISE WAS HEARD WHILE DRIVING. BOTH REAR WHEEL CYLINDER BOOTS WERE CRACKED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE IS MAKING THE SAME NOISE AS BEFORE. REAR CLIPS LOOSE AND MOVING AROUND. *AK *CB
CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH REAR DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELTS. ALSO, STATED THAT SOMEBODY WAS IN THE BACK SEAT AND VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A COLISION AND THE SEAT BELT BROKE. MANUFACTURE WAS NOT CONTACTED.*AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE THEY JERKED AND SQUEAKED INTERMITTENTLY. AT TIMES WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THEY ALMOST WENT TO THE FLOOR. DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. ONCE THE DEALER DROVE VEHICLE IT JERKED. MANUFACTURER TOOK THE CONTACT'S COMPLAINT, AND TOLD HER THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AND COULD NOT OFFER ANY HELP AT THEIR EXPENSE. SHE WAS NOT SURE IF IT WAS THE FRONT OR REAR BRAKES.*AK
WE NOTICED THE LOWER HALF OF THE CAR IS COVERED WITH SMALL RUST SPOTS 44000 MILES. WE DO NOT HAVE AN ESTIMATE ON FIXING THIS PROBLEM. AT 39000 MILES WE BEGAN EXPERIENCING A RATTLE UNDER THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER FLOOR BOARD. THIS HAS BEEN INSPECTED AND NOTHING HAS BEEN FOUND SO FAR, HOWEVER THE RATTLE CONTINUES TO GROW WORSE. JUST UNDER 30000 MILES THE FRONT BRAKES REQUIRED REPLACMENT. NEW ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE INSTALLED, HOWEVER WITHIN A WEEKS TIME THE CAR WAS BACK IN FOR MORE BRAKE WORK. THE PADS WERE REPLACED BY THE SHOP, BUT THE SQEAKING HAS RETURNED AGAIN.( WE DID NOT HAVE THE BRAKES REPAIRED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP, BECAUSE WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.) THE FUEL GAUGE READS ERRACTICLY BETWEEN FULL AND 1/4. I HAVE MADE NO ATTEMPT TO HAVE THIS FIXED YET. THE ENGINE HAS DEVELOPED A HARD STARTING PROBLEM WITHIN THE LAST FEW WEEKS. IT WILL CRANK AND NOT START. THEN AFTER A COUPLE OF ATTEMPTS, IT WILL START BUT IDLE ROUGH.
WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING FRONT AND REAR PASSENGERS SIDE TIRES WERE SEPARATING. DEALER NOTIFIED. TIRE SIZE P215/60R16. *AK
CONSUMER STATES WHILE TRAVELING AT 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO RESPOND LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THERE WAS NO POWER. *PH THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY A TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT FORD REIMBURSE HIM FOR THE REPAIRS. FORD DENIED THE REQUEST DUE TO EXPIRATION OF HIS WARRANTY. *PH *JB
WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR, AND CAUSED LESS BRAKING POWER. *AK ON A LEVEL ROAD, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE PEDAL HAD GONE TO THE FLOOR WITH LITTLE BRAKING POWER, THE PEDAL RETURNED SEVERAL MINUTES LATER. THE DEALER COULDN'T FIND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. *SCC *JB
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY THE TRANSMISSION STALLED AND MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. *TT
WHILE APPLYING BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. *TT THE INCIDENT OCCURRED TWICE AT THE SAME SPOT, BUT DIFFERENT DAYS, THE CONSUMER PULLED OUT OF THE ROAD, AS THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO TURN LEFT AT THE RED LIGHT THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE. THE BRAKES HAD BECOME INOPERATIVE BEFORE AS WELL WHERE THE CONSUMER FELT AS IF THE VEHICLE WASN'T GOING TO STOP. *SCC *JB
EVERY TIME IT RAINS MY PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR IS FLOODED WITH WATER. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED, BUT GET NO SOLUTION. *TR
LEFT FRONT TIRE, ON FIRESTONE AFFINITY 206016, BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING. IF I WAS DRIVING AT A FASTER SPEED WOULD HAVE CAUSE A LOT OF DAMAGE. *JB

WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. THE BLOWOUT OCCURRED ON THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE, AND HALF OF THE TIRE WAS SEPARATED FROM THE TREAD. IT APPEARS THAT THE RIM WAS SLIGHTLY DAMAGED. *TT

THE VEHICLES BRAKE PEDAL DISENGAGE FROM THE MASTER CYLINDERS PUSH ROD. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. *NLM THE DEALER DID NOT VOLUNTEER INFORMATION OF OTHER MODELS THAT HAS FACTORY RECALLS FOR THE RETAINER CLIP. REFER TO RECALL# 02V266000 SCC

LAST TIME, THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS, TOOK OFF THE DASH BOARD TO GET AT LINES AND IT HAS FLOODED AGAIN. THEY HAVE NOT REPLACED ANY CARPETING OR MATS, AND ONCE AGAIN HAVE NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. *NLM
MY WIFE WHILE DRIVING A RENTAL 2001 FORD TAURUS ON VENTURA FREEWAY ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AT SOME POINT,THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR SHE EXITED THE FREEWAY AT OFF RAMP AND CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE RETAINING WALL.BOTH AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY,MY WIFE'S SHOULDER HARNESS GAVE WAY, RESULTING IN MASSIVE INJURIES TO MY WIFE AND SERIOUS INJURIES TO MY 2 DAUGHTERS WHICH AFTER SURGERY HAD TO BE REDONE ON ONE OF THEM.*AK
MY 2001 FORD TAURUS SHAKES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. PROBLEM HAS BEEN BLAMED ON EVERYTHING. TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND BALANCED, ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED (FOR THE 2ND TIME IN THIS CARS YOUNG LIFE), AND THE BRAKE PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. I JUST WANT MY CAR TO STOP SHAKING. SEEMS LIKE WE'RE PLAYING EENY,MEENY,MINY, MOE WITH MY MONEY AND TIME. STILL NO RESOLUTION. *JB
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE TWICE IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE OF BRAKE FAILURE.*JB
THE BRAKE ROTORS FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO EXPERIENCE STOPPING DISTANCE.*JB
THE CONSUMER LOSS CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IN A SNOW STORM AND SKIDDED OFF THE ROAD AND LANDED DOWN AN EMBANKMENT. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER REPORTED THE ACCIDENT TO THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY, AND WAS TOLD BY A REPRESENTATIVE THAT IT WAS NOT SUFFICIENT IMPACT FOR THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. CONSUMER STATED THAT HE WAS INJURED, RECEIVING 48 STITCHES AND ACCUMULATING ABOUT 20,000 WORTH OF MEDICAL BILLS. *AK *SCC *JB
CONSUMER STATES THAT BRAKE ROTORS ARE WEARING ,AND WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, VEHICLE WILL HAVE A HEAVY VIBRATION AND EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
ONE OF MY OEM TIRES (FIRESTONE AFFINITY) SUDDENLY FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WAS NO ROAD HAZARD DAMAGE SUCH AS NAILS OR SCREWS INVOLVED. THE TIRE'S OUTSIDE SIDEWALL FAILED RESULTING IN A SPLIT LARGE ENOUGH THAT A CREDIT CARD COULD SLIDE THROUGH IT. THE OEM TIRES HAD LESS THAN 18,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF FAILURE. THE PRESSURE HAD BEEN CHECKED DURING A ROUTINE SERVICE VISIT ON ALL OF THE TIRES ONE MONTH PRIOR TO THIS. AFTER TAKING THE TIRE TO A CORPORATE FIRESTONE STORE, THEY BLAMED THE FAILURE AS "IMPACT DAMAGE". BASICALLY THEY SAID IT WAS MY FAULT FOR HITTING SOMETHING AND NOT DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE TIRE. IF I HAD ACTUALLY HIT SOMETHING, THEN I COULD ACCEPT THE PROBLEM. BUT SINCE I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING WHEN THE TIRE FAILED, I AM NOW CONCERNED ABOUT THE OTHER OEM FIRESTONE AFFINITY TIRES ON MY 2001 FORD TAURUS. THERE WERE FOUR PASSENGERS IN MY CAR AT THE TIME THIS TIRE FAILED AND ALL WOULD REITTERATE THE FACT THAT NOTHING IN THE ROADWAY WAS STRUCK TO CAUSE THE SIDEWALL FAILURE. I WAS ONLY TRAVELING LESS THAN 20 MPH WHEN THE TIRE FAILED AS I APPROACED A STOP LIGHT.
PRESSURE EGR VALVE FAILURE. FORD HAS ACKNOWLEDGED PROBLEM BY EXTENDING WARRANTY FOR 2 YEARS, 24K, BUT THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE VIEWED FOR POSSIBLE MANDATORY RECALL. *NLM
WHEN BRAKES WAS APPLIED, THERE WAS A VIBRATION SHOCK FROM THE PEDAL AND THEY DIDN'T HOLD. THIS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN CONTACTED. TS
I WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT AND MOSTLY SIDE COLLISION WHERE MY CAR WAS TOTALED. A COUPLE OF DAYS BEFORE THE ACCIDENT MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN WENT OFF. I TOOK THE CAR (2001 FORD TAURUS SES) TO COWLES FORD IN WOODBRIDGE VA. I WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND THAT THE AIRBAGS WOULD DEPLOY PROPERLY IF I WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE CAR LOOKED AT ON 12/27/02. THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT AND ONLY ONE SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED BUT NOT ON THE SIDE I WAS ON. I WAS DRIVING, WEARING MY SEATBELT THE SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. DURING THE ACCIDENT I WAS STILL THROWN INTO THE SIDE OF THE CAR EVEN THOUGHT MY SEATBELT WAS WORN. I SUSTAINED SOME MINOR TO SERIOUS INJURIES AND AM CURRENTLY STILL BEING TREATED FOR THESE. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO REPORT THE PROBLEM SO THAT THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE IN THE FUTURE. THEY HAVE IGNORED MY PHONE CALLS AND HAVE FAILED TO RESPOND TO MY COMPLAINTS. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO HIRE AN ATTORNEY TO FIGHT THIS BUT AM LOOKING FOR ANY HELP FROM YOU IN MAKING SURE THAT THE CARS WE BUY FOR THE AMOUNT OF MONEY WE SPEND WILL BE SAFE FOR OUR FAMILIES. I RECIENTLY HAD THE RECALL FOR THE WIPER MOTOR COVER REPAIRED. SINCE THE REPAIR MY WIPERS WILL NOT WORK WHEN THE WEATHER IS BELOW FREEZING. ONCE THE CAR WARMS UP THEY WILL WORK FINE (PROVIDED THE TEMP IS ABOVE 30 DEGREES). I HAVE HAD THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG, EACH TIME THE WIPERS WILL WORK ONCE THERE, AND NO ACTION IS TAKEN. (MY CAR IS CURRENTLY JUST OVER THE FREE WARRANTY MILEAGE). I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE WIPERS BEFORE THEY WERE FIXED AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SOMTHING DONE. THE WIPERS ACT LIKE THERE MAY BE MOISTURE IN A CONNECTION THAT FREEZES AND PUSHES THE CONNECTION APART, OR INTERFERES WITH ELECTRICAL CONDUCTION, UNTIL THE CAR WARMS SUFFICENTLY TO GET CONDUCTION TO CONTINUE. CONSUMER STATED HAD PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE PEDAL. ALSO STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL IS 2" HIGHER THAT THE GAS PEDAL. DEALER WAS CONTACED AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL BUT THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH IT. *TS *TT THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS TOO CLOSE TOGETHER WHICH CAUSED THE CONSUMER'S FOOT TO HIT BOTH AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TT
DURING A SNOW STORM, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS HAD GONE OUT. THE CONSUMER HAD GOTTEN THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST GARAGE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T BE OF ASSISTANCE. THE CONSUMER THEN HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALER WHERE THEY REMEDIED THE PROBLEM. MR SCC *NLM
