VIBRATION IN STEERING GETS WORSE THE FASTER THE VEHICLE GOES. DEALER SO FAR HAS NOT FOUND A CAUSE.DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE VIBRATION IS WITHIN FORDS SPECIFICATIONS. *JB
THERE WAS A PULSATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. *JB
THE VEHICLE SEVERELY PULLED TO THE LEFT WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *JB
CONSUMER STATED AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE, HE NOTICED THE LEFT FRONT TIRE WAS SHOWING SIGNS OF TINY CRACKS, CONSUMER STATED NOW THAT IT IS 1 YEAR LATER THERE IS SMALL DEBRIS FALLING FROM THE EDGES OF THE TIRE WHERE THE CRACKS ARE LOCATED, FORD AND FIRESTONE RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE TIRES, FORD ASSURED CONSUMER THAT THE TIRES WERE UNDER THEIR SUPPLEMENT WARRANTY, HOWEVER FORD HAS NOW REFUSED TO HONOR ITS WARRANTY FOR ALL FIRESTONE TIRES, AND FIRESTONE IS DENYING ANY RESPONSIBILITY.(FIRESTONE TIRES P215/60R16, 94T M+S) (DOT#027728)*JB
I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 FORD TAURUS AND WHEN I ACCELERATED AFTER PULLING ONTO THE HIGHWAY FROM A PARKING LOT, THE CAR REACHED A SPEED SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 50-60 MPH AND HELD THAT SPEED. THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A CRUISE CONTROL, WHICH I RARELY USE. I WAS NOT USING IT AT THE TIME. I APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE CAR HELD STEADY AT THE SAME SPEED. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY SIX MILES IN MODERATE TRAFFIC, DAMAGING THE BRAKES IN THE PROCESS, UNTIL I FOUND AN AREA WHERE I COULD SAFELY DRIVE OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT RISK TO MYSELF OR OTHERS. EVENTUALLY, THE CAR SLOWED TO THE POINT AT WHICH I COULD ANGLE INTO A SLIGHT EMBANKMENT AND STOP. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY REPAIRED THE DAMAGE DONE TO THE BRAKES BUT KEPT THE CAR FOR A WEEK AND STILL HAD SOME DIFFICULTY IN IDENTIFYING WHAT CAUSED THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM. THEY FINALLY SAID THAT IT HAD TO DO WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL AND DISCONNECTED IT. THE MANAGER OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THERE COMMENTED THAT THIS WAS NOT A PROBLEM HE'D ENCOUNTERED BEFORE. THEY ALSO FOUND THAT THE CAR IDLED AT AN UNACCEPTABLY HIGH RATE AND HAD SOME DIFFICULTY RESOLVING THAT PROBLEM. I PAID FOR THE REPAIRS AND HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR NEARLY TWO WEEKS. THERE IS STILL A PROBLEM WITH ACCELERATION IN THAT IT WILL HOLD A SPEED FOR NEARLY A HALF MILE OR SO, ALTHOUGH THE BRAKES WILL STOP IT. THE FACT THAT THE SERVICE PEOPLE AT THE DEALERSHIP WERE SO PERPLEXED BY THE PROBLEM AND WERE UNABLE TO FULLY ELIMINATE IT LEADS ME TO WONDER IF IT MIGHT NOT BE THE RESULT OF SOME KIND OF FACTORY DEFECT, ALTHOUGH I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING ABOUT A RECALL. THE CAR IS SEVEN YEARS OLD AND HAS NEARLY 114,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH VEHICLE RAN OVER AN ARTICLE ON ROAD WHICH PUNCTURED GAS TANK. TANK PUNCTURED SO EASILY THAT IT EMPTIED THE FULL TANK OF GAS IN APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES. FORD DEALER REPLACED ENTIRE TANK AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSE.*AK *SLC
THE ROTORS ON MY BRAND NEW FORD TAURUS ARE WARPED, THEY WILL BE BROUHGT IN FOR SERVICE ON 4/23/01 UNDER MY CURRENT WARRANTY. I WILL ASK FOR THE ROTORS TO BE REPLACE DNOT JUST TURNED DOWN. *AK

STOPPING DISTANCE HAS CHANGED. THERE ARE 4 WHEEL DISC BRAKES ONLY ON FRONT, THEY SHOULD BE ON THE REAR ALSO. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT VEHICLE HAD SHUT OFF CAUSING A CAR CRASH. NLM CONSUMER ADDS THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE WHEN PUT IN REVERSE AND DRIVE AT TIMES AND GOES INTO GEAR VERY HARD, THEN THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT IN THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING, DEALER REPLACED TRANSMISSION AND WORN PLANETARY GEARS. ELEVEN DAYS AFTER VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE ENGINE CUT OFF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. CONSUMER LOSS ALL POWER WITH STEERING AND BRAKES. CONSUMER STATES THERE IS A SQEAKING NOISE IN RIGHT FRONT AND DRIVERS SEAT WHEN DRIVING. NO PROBLEM FOUND. *TT

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH INTO THE OFF POSITION WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN. THE VEHICLE RESUMED AND OPERATED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR THE RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE WHICH WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V266000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: PEDALS AND LINKAGES). THE CONSEQUENCE OF THE RECALL DEFECT WAS AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE TECHNICIAN INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THE VEHICLE DID NOT REQUIRE REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20. UPDATED 07/21/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED HE CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. UPDATED 12/05/11

ON THREE OCCASIONS, ALTHOUGH I DIDN'T REALIZE IT AT THE TIME, WHILE BRAKING TO STOP, I WAS ALSO ACCELERATING CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD. THE HARDER A PRESSED ON THE BRAKE THE GREATER THE ACCELLERATION. AS I SAID, I HAD NO IDEA MY RIGHT FOOT WAS ON BOTH PEDALS AT THE SAME TIME. I HAD THE CAR TOWED BACK TO CLARKE FORD FOR THEIR INSPECTION. THEY PERFORMED THAT INSPECTION ON 8/21 AND REPORTED NO APPARENT PROBLEMS. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT EVENING TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE. THE SALESMAN AND I TOOK A TEST DRIVE TO SEE IF I COULD REPLICATE WHAT I HAD EXPERIECED ON THE 19TH. COULDN'T DO IT SO I DROVE MY OTHER VEHICLE HOME AND THE SALESMAN FOLLOWED ME HOME IN THE NEW VEHICLE. THE SALESMAN DROVE ME BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AS HE PROCEDED INTO A PARKING SPACE HE BRAKED TO STOP THE CAR BUT AT THE SAME TIME THE CAR WANTED TO ACCELERATE JUST AS HAD HAPPENED TO ME ON THREE OCCASSIONS. THE STARTLED SALESMAN EXCLAIMED "IS THAT WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU" AND HE LOOKED DOWN AT HIS WHICH WAS ON BOTH THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR. MYSTERY SOLVED. THIS HAD NEVER HAPPENED WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED OR LEASED IN 43 YEARS OF DRIVING. I INSPECTED THE POSITION OF THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS IN MY OTHER TWO CARS AND A COUPLE OF CO-WORKERS CARS AND DISCOVERED THAT THE DISTANCES, BOTH DEPTH AND WIDTH, ON THE NEW TAURUS WERE MUCH CLOSER THAN THE OTHER VEHICLES. ON THE NEW TAURUS, I CAN DEPRESS THE BRAKE WITH MY HAND AND IT WILL DESEND TO A LEVEL LOWER THAN THE ACCELERATOR. I COULD NOT DO THIS IN THE OTHER VEHICLES, EVEN BY USING MY FOOT TO BRAKE. THE BRAKE PEDAL NEVER GOT TO THE LEVEL OF THE ACCELERATOR. I BELIEVE THE FORD NEW DESIGN, WHICH IS A POWER ADJUSTABLE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL BAR TO ACCOMODATE SHORT STATURED PEOPLE, COULD BE A DEFECT WHICH COULD CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS, SIMILAR TO THOSE THAT OCCURED IN THE JEEP A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO.

REAR SEAT HEAD REST HAVE VERY LITTLE PADDING, WHENEVER THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED SUDDENLY THE REAR OCCUPANTS HEADS HIT THE SEAT BACK HURTING THEIR HEAD DUE TO THE LACK OF PADDING. NLM
WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE CAR CONTINUES AT THE SAME SPEED. IT SLOWS DOWN VERY GRADUALLY AND REQUIRES HALF A MILE FOR EACH 5 MPH DECREASING IN SPEED, THE DEALER SAID THIS WAS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE.
FLEXIBLE ENGINE MOUNTING TWISTED BEYOND LENGTH OF VACUUM HOSE THAT IS CONNECTED TO POWER BRAKES, CAUSING TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
DURING A CLOSE PROXIMITY, PANIC STOP ATTEMPT, THE BRAKE SYSTEM CYCLED AND A COLLISION ENSUED. IF THE BRAKE SYSTEM HAD NOT CYCLED, THE ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE TO ME IN 2 DIFFERENT FORD VEHICLES IN LESS THAN A YEAR. IN EACH CASE, I FEEL THAT THE ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE ANTI-SKID SYSTEM DID NOT CYCLE AT SPEED UNDER 25-30 MPH. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS AND THEY SEEM TO BE UNINTERESTED. IF IT HAD BEEN A CHILD RUNNING INTO THE ROADWAY FROM BETWEEN CARS, IN EACH INSTANCE, I WOULD HAVE RUN OVER THEM. DOES ANYONE BESIDES ME SEE A PROBLEM HERE?*AK

CONSUMER STATES A RACCOON RAN ACROSS THE ROAD IN FRONT OF HIS VEHICLE, AND STRUCK THE FRONT BUMPER, THE BUMPER BEING CONSTRUCTED OF A FLEXIBLE PLASTIC DEFLECTED SO FAR THAT THE POINTED END OF A SCREW, WHICH IS PART OF THE BUMPER ASSEMBLY, STRUCK AND PUNCTURED THE POWER STEERING COOLER ASSEMBLY, WHICH LED TO THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING FLUID AND CONSEQUENTLY TO THE COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST, CONSUMER STATED THE BUMPER ASSEMBLY DID NOT PERFORM AS ITS INTENDED PURPOSE.*JB
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELLING WHEN THE TRANSAXLE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND BEGAN TO FLASH. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS KEPT FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSIS. DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT A NEW TRANSAXLE UNIT WAS ORDERED BECAUSE THE ORIGNAL TRANSAXLE WAS PUT TOGETHER IMPROPERLY DURING ASSEMBLY AND FORD WANTED IT FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. *JG
