MY FRAME IS TOTALLY ROTTEN!!! THE A ARM ISN'T EVEN ATTRACTED TO THE FRAME. *TR
I HAD AN ACCIDENT. WHEN I WAS HIT MY SEAT BELTS DID NOT FUNCTION EFFECTIVELY, AND THEREFORE I WAS INJURED. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON IT FAILED TO SHIFT OUT OF THE PARK POSITION. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE FAILURE WAS TEMPORARILY RESOLVED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THE BRAKE SWITCH SHOULD BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND CONFIRMED THE VIN DID NOT QUALIFY FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN 04V106000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
CAR BECAME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. AT THIS TIME THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE WORKING. FOUND A WORK AROUND ON THE INTERNET THAT WORKED. ALSO FOUND A RECALL (04S12) FOR SAME PROBLEM BUT MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED AND FORD WILL NOT FIX. HOWEVER, THEY DO NOT SELL THE STOP LIGHT SWITCH (WHICH IS MOST LIKELY THE PART I NEED) BY ITSELF ANYMORE. YOU MUST BUY A MORE EXPENSIVE KIT THAT INCLUDES THE STOP LIGHT SWITCH AND WIRING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. NOW MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE COMPLETELY OUT SO WE CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR. SEEMS IF FORD WON'T SELL JUST THE SWITCH THEN THEY ARE ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND MY CAR SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I FOUND MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I WAS LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION TO THE SHIFTING OUT OF PARK PROBLEM. I HAVE CALLED FORD TWICE BUT THEY BASICALLY SAY "SORRY YOU ARE NOT PART OF THE RECALL." AND REGARDING WHETHER THERE WERE A CRASH, IF MY DAUGHTER HAD KEPT DRIVING IT THERE MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE BEEN ONE, AS BRAKE LIGHTS ARE PRETTY IMPORTANT. *TR
2001 FORD TAURUS HAS PREMATURE AND EXCESSIVE CORROSION. TRANSMISSION LEAK TAKEN IN FOR REPAIR AND SHOCK OF NEARLY DEPLETED LIP ON THE FRAME HOLDING MOTOR IN PLACE. ONE GOOD BUMP AND WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE LIP WOULD HAVE GIVEN WAY DROPPING THE MOTOR AND I WOULD HAVE LOST MY 21 YEAR OLD SON, POSSIBLY MY HANDICAPPED 23 YEAR OLD SON, THEIR FRIENDS OR GIRLFRIENDS THAT OFTEN TRAVEL IN THIS CAR. I HAVE KEPT THE PARTS. WE ARE STILL IN THE REPAIR MODE AS THE REAR STABILIZERS ARE ALSO IN CORROSION AND NEED REPLACED. CAR WILL ALSO NEED REALIGNMENT AFTERWARDS. I TOO HAVE BEEN TOLD OF THE FAILURE ON THE MINIVANS FOR SAME THINGS. I UNDERSTAND OTHER FORD PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN COMING IN FOR THE SAME PARTS FAILING. I HAVE A YOUNG INEXPERIENCED DRIVER THAT I BELIEVED WOULD BE MORE SAFE IN YOUR PRODUCT. MY CHILDREN ARE MY LIFE!!!! I SEE SO MANY OF THESE CARS BEING DRIVEN AND PEOPLE UNAWARE OF THE DANGER THAT LURKS BENEATH. BY THE GRACE OF GOD THE CAR LEAKED AND GOT MY SON OFF THE ROAD IN BARELY THE KNICK OF TIME. IT MAKES ME SICK TO LOOK AT THE PIECE SO CLOSE TO DEVASTATION. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!!!!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS WERE FRACTURED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,164.
MY 2001 FORD TAURUS HAS BEEN PLAGUED BY PREMATURE AND EXCESSIVE CORROSION. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY FILED FOR THE COIL SPRINGS SNAPPING IN HALF- NOW MY FRAME HAS FAILED. WHILE DRIVING MY CAR STARTED SWAYING- I HELD THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHTLY BUT THE CAR WANDERED ON IT'S ON. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE AT HOME , IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT FRAME FAILED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A NYS FACILITY I WAS TOLD THAT EXCESSIVE RUST WAS AN ISSUE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THEY SEE THIS ON THE TAURUS REGULARLY AND HAVE FAILED VEHICLES DUE TO THIS ISSUE. I CONTACTED FORD , THEY SAID OUT OF WARRANTY. THEY DO NOT SELL REPLACEMENT FRAMES AND SUGGESTED I PURCHASE AN AFTERMARKET FRAME AND HAVE REPAIRS DONE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 37 YEARS AND WAS ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THAT THERE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE, YOUNG NEW DRIVERS WITHOUT EXPERIENCE WILL CONTINUE TO DRIVE THESE VEHICLES. I AM REQUESTING THAT THE NHTSA LOOK IN TO THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF MAJOR COMPONENTS IN THE TAURUS DUE TO LOW GRADE MATERIAL USE. THE FORD COMPANY WAS REQUIRED TO RECALL MINIVANS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE- YET THE TAURUS WHICH FORD SAYS IS ONE OF ITS BEST SELLING VEHICLES HAS BEEN COMPLETELY IGNORED WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. IF THIS VEHICLE WERE MANUFACTURED BY TOYOTA IT WOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED YEARS AGO. SHAME ON THE POWERS THAT BE THAT ALLOW THIS SITUATION TO CONTINUE. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS NEW OE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE, USED PARTS ARE NOT AN OPTION DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY ALSO WILL BE ROTTED BEYOND USE. I HAD A 1940S DODGE PARKED IN A FARM FIELD BY A PREVIOUS OWNER THAT HAD LESS RUST THAN THIS VEHICLE HAD WHEN IT WAS UNDER 5 YEARS OLD. WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT QUALITY? *KB
I HAVE BEEN A LICENSED DRIVE FOR 37 YEARS. AFTER MERGING MY 2001 FORD TAURUS ONTO AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AFTER I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL. I TAPPED THE BRAKES TO SEE IF CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON. IT WASN'T. I GLANCED AT THE GAS PEDAL TO SEE IS SOMETHING WAS ON IT. THERE WASN'T. I TAPPED THE GAS PEDAL TO SEE IF IT WAS STUCK. IT STAYED DEPRESSED. I BRAKED HARD AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED TO 60MPH. I RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE CAR BEGAN ACCELERATING AGAIN. TO KEEP FROM REAR-ENDING THE CAR AHEAD OF ME, I DOWNSHIFTED AND STOOD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I PULLED ONTO THE ROAD SHOULDER, SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION TO NEUTRAL AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR WITH BRAKES SMOKING. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND HAD IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALER. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THE PLASTIC BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE THROTTLE CABLE IN PLACE HAD BROKEN AND THE CABLE HAD JAMMED IN WITH THE THROTTLE OPEN. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED THE THROTTLE CABLE ASSEMBLY(YFIZ*9A825*CA ACTUATOR ASY). THEY KEPT THE OLD PART. I FEEL I WAS FORTUNATE NOT TO HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AND BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. MY TEENAGERS ALSO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY STOP THE CAR AS I DID. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING FRACTURED AS A RESULT OF CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD SURPASSED THE STATUTE OF LIMITATION FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V332000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,448.
HELLO, I OWN A 2001 FORD TAURUS AND EVER SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THIS SUMMER, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR BOARD IS CONSTANTLY DAMP. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS DAMPNESS IS COMING FROM WHEN IT RAINS OUTSIDE OR IF IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE A/C DRAINAGE HOSE BEING CLOGGED. EITHER WAY, I FIND THIS AS A SAFETY CONCERN AS MAJOR CORDS ARE UNDERNEATH THE CARPETING AND I FEEL UNSAFE KNOWING THAT WATER IS COLLECTING UNDERNEATH THE CARPETING, MAKING THOSE CORDS WET, WHICH COULD SPARK AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. I REALLY WOULD FEEL MUCH SAFER GETTING THIS PROBLEM FIXED BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO BEGIN. I TRULY BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND WOULD REALLY LIKE TO GET IT FIXED, IF ONLY I KNEW WHERE TO BEGIN. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP WITH THIS MATTER. *KB
APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR AGO, I WAS HAVING MECHANIC PROBLEMS WITH MY 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD IT INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC. THE EGR VALVE AND EGR SENSOR WAS REPLACED. ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. I WAS NOT ABLE TO HAVE IT CHECKED BY A MECHANIC AGAIN. ABOUT A WEEK AGO, I NOTICED THAT WHEN I STARTED THE ENGINE, THERE WAS AN INSTANTANEOUS SMELL OF EXHAUST IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE WINDOWS WERE ALL IN THE CLOSED POSITION. I WAS REQUIRED TO DRIVE WITH MY WINDOWS DOWN FOR A FEW DAYS UNTIL I COULD HAVE IT LOOKED AT BY A MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE EGR SENSOR HAD MELTED DUE TO THE EGR VALVE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE VACUUM LINE FROM THE EGR VALVE TO THE EGR SENSOR HAD ALSO MELTED. DURING THE FEW DAYS THAT I HAD TO DRIVE IT, I SUFFERED FROM EXTREME HEADACHES, NAUSEA, AND LIGHTHEADEDNESS FROM THE EXHAUST COMING INTO THE CAR. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NO FIRE, THERE WAS A GREAT POTENTIAL FOR A FIRE DUE TO THE EXTREME HEAT CAUSING THE SENSOR TO MELT. *TR
REAR SPRING BROKE AND KILLED REAR TIRE, ALMOST PEOPLE IN THE CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE SURGED AND CONTINUED TO SURGE WHILE THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HAD TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE SURGING AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
2001 FORD TAURUS SES LEFT FRONT SPRING SNAPPED. THIS WAS DISCOVERED AT ~95,000 MILES AND 10 WEEKS AFTER THE FORD EXTENDED RECALL PROGRAM EXPIRED. THE END OF THE SPRING WAS SITTING IN THE SMALL WELL AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SPRING AND THE BROKEN END WAS VERY RUSTY. ABOUT 3" SNAPPED OFF THE TOP END OF THE SPRING. ONLINE RESEARCH INDICATES THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND MANY PEOPLE REPORT THAT THE SPRING PUNCTURES A TIRE AND CAUSES SUSPENSION AND FRAME DAMAGE. I WILL NEED TO HAVE THE SPRINGS, ALONG WITH THE STRUTS, BUSHINGS, ETC. REPLACED. BOTH OF MY REAR SPRINGS WERE ALSO BROKEN AND WERE REPLACED (AT MY OWN EXPENSE) IN MAY, 2010. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS THEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT FRONT SUB-FRAME WAS RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO AVOID CRASHING INTO A DEER, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO TWO LIGHTS POLES AND A TREE FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NONE OF THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT WAS REPORTED INJURED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AWAY BT THE CONTACTS INSURANCE COMPANY AND DEEMED AS DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING INSPECTED TO DETERMINE WHY THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED THE DRIVERS SIDE TIRE WHEN HE WAS DRIVING 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS AWAITING REPAIR. THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL 04V332000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS) BUT WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE SPRINGS. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER; HOWEVER, THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,750.
DROVE THE CAR NORMALLY, AND IT DOES HAVE SOME MILEAGE ON IT, BUT UPON READING ONLINE I SEE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON FAILURE. FAILURE: REAR STRUT SPRINGS CRACKING OR BREAKING INTO MULTIPLE PIECES. I CAN SEE WHERE PARTS WHERE OUT, BUT THEY SHOULD NOT BREAK. REAR SPRING BROKE AND DAMAGED TIRE (SIDEWALL). IF I HAD BEEN GOING FASTER, SAY HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A PRETTY SIGNIFICANT ACCIDENT. I WAS LUCKY. THERE IS CLEARLY A DEFECT WITH SUCH A HIGH NUMBER OF THESE SPRINGS BREAKING. FRONT SUSPENSION SHOCK BROKE, COIL SPRING RUPTURED TIRE. *TR
I HAVE READ THE NEWS THIS WEEK ABOUT THE PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION INTO 2005-06 TAURUS SPEED CONTROL PROBLEMS AND IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS A VERY SCARY PROBLEM I EXPERIENCED LAST YEAR WITH MY 2001 TAURUS. A FORD DEALER REPLACED A CABLE FOR THE SPEED CONTROL ON THE CAR'S CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM. I STILL HAVE A COPY OF MY FORD INVOICE AND I KEPT THE BROKEN CABLE THAT WAS REPLACED ON MY CAR. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR DOWN A BOULEVARD WHEN THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RACE EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOT ACCELERATING. I HAD TO PRESS HARD ON MY BRAKES TO STOP FOR A RED LIGHT, AND PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUE TO RACE AT ABOUT 4,000 RPMS. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, THEN TURNED IT ON AGAIN, HOPING I COULD MOVE OUT OF THE LANES OF TRAFFIC. HOWEVER, THE ENGINE CONTINUE TO SPEED SO I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AGAIN AND SAT IN MY CAR UNTIL A GOOD SAMARITAN PUSHED ME OUT OF TRAFFIC. AAA TOWED THE CAR TO WORTHINGTON FORD IN LONG BEACH, CA. BOTH THE GOOD SAMARITAN AND THE AAA TOW TRUCK DRIVER TURNED THE ENGINE ON WITH THE HOOD OPEN AND SAID THE THROTTLE WAS STUCK. THE AAA DRIVER SHOWED ME A CABLE WITH A FITTING THAT WAS LOOSE, AND WHEN HE PUSHED THE FITTING IN, THE ENGINE SLOWED DOWN. THE FORD DEALER SAID THE PROBLEM WAS NOT THE THROTTLE BUT THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM. THEY OFFERED TO DISABLE THE CRUISE CONTROL, BUT I HAD THEM FIX IT. THE FORD INVOICE STATES: "CUSTOMER STATES VEHICLE HAS A STICKING THROTTLE/CABLE. SOMETHING BROKEN CAUSING RPMS TO GO OVER 4K AND ADV. REMOVED CYLINDER AND ADDED NEW SPEED CONTROL CABLE." THE NEW PART IS LISTED AS YF1Z-0A825-CA, WITH DESCRIPTION "ACTUATO 540397." THE COST WAS $307.82. *TR
2001 FORD TAURUS IAC VALVE FAILURE AT 54,200 MILES. *TR
TODAY FOUND OUT THAT MY 2001 FORD TAURUS (ABOUT 76K) REAR RIGHT BREAKING COIL SPRINGS BROKEN DURING A SERVICE. THE BROKEN SPRING ALMOST TOUCH THE TIRE. I WAS LUCKY IT DID NOT BROKE THE TIRE. I WAS TOLD TO REPLACE BOTH REAR SPRINGS AND WOULD COST MORE THAN $1000 DOLLARS. IT IS A SAFE ISSUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE AND CAUSED SLIGHT DAMAGE TO THE FRONT BUMPER. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. FOUR PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 124,512.
THERE WAS VERY LITTLE WARNING TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE DROVE FINE UNTIL ONE DAY IT DEVELOPED A CLUNK IN THE FRONT THAT WAS WORSE THAN THE SEVERAL THAT WERE ALREADY THERE. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY 15 SOUTH FROM TEMECULA, CA. I EXITED MISSION/FALLBROOK AND PROCEEDED TO GO UP THE LITTLE INCLINE AND MY ACCELERATOR STUCK. I HAD TO TAKE ON A CURVY ROAD FOR ABOUT 4 MILES, UNTIL I COULD FIND A SPOT TO PULL OVER. I ENDED UP RUNNING A RED LIGHT, AFTER RUNNING THE LIGHT I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND HIT MY BRAKES. I DON'T KNOW WHAT LEAD UP TO THE FAILURE OF MY STRUT SPRINGS ON MY 2001 FORD TAURUS. I HAD NOT HIT ANY POTHOLES, HAD ANY EXTREME WEIGHT IN THE BACK, OR ANY OTHER ISSUES THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN. I AM A FAIRLY GOOD DRIVER WITH A GREAT DRIVING RECORD. THE PARTS ALONE WERE $300 (NOT INCLUDING LABOR, THE SPRINGS ARE CURRENTLY BEING REPLACED) AND DUE TO THE BROKEN SPRINGS I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH BACK TIRES AT $100 A PIECE. I FIRST NOTICED THE RIGHT REAR DOOR OF MY 2001 TAURUS WAS NOT UNLOCKING WITH THE AUTOMATIC FEATURE, ABOUT ONE YEAR AGO. THOUGHT THAT MAYBE ONE OF MY GRANDCHILDREN HAD CAUSED THE PROBLEM. THEN, ABOUT ONE MONTH AGO, THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. MY GRANDCHILDREN DO NOT TRAVEL IN THE FRONT COMPARTMENT OF MY CAR. NOR DO I HAVE VERY MANY PASSENGERS. ALSO, MY GRANDCHILDREN HAVE NOT BEEN IN MY CAR MUCH IN THE PAST 14 MONTHS, AS THEY HAVE MOVED TO ANOTHER COUNTY. I THEN HAD MY MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT. HE DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT HE COULD NOT ORDER THE PARTS TO REPLACE THE DOOR LOCKING ACTUATOR. THE PART WAS OUT OF STOCK, BECAUSE A LARGE NUMBER OF OTHER FORD TAURUS OWNERS WERE HAVING THE VERY SAME PROBLEM. I'M SORRY THAT I DID NOT CONTACT YOU EARLIER. MY MOTHER HAD BEEN IN THE HOSPITAL FOR A WEEK, AND I HAD LOTS OF CATCHING UP TO DO. ANYWAY, MY MECHANIC DID NOT RECOMMEND INSTALLING A USED PART, AS THE SAME THING WOULD VERY LIKELY HAPPEN. WHEN I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY REGARDING THIS PROBLEM, I EXPLAINED THAT I THOUGHT IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. THEY PRETTY MUCH TOLD ME "SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE, LADY ... BUT, YOU'RE ON OUR OWN". IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK ALL DOORS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR BY WAY OF AUTOMATIC FEATURE, EITHER ON THE DOOR HANDLE OR THE HAND-HELD REMOTE. CHILDREN ARE NOT ALWAYS SWIFT IN BEING ABLE TO UNLOCK A CAR DOOR AND THEN OPENING THE DOOR IN AN EMERGENCY. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. I TOOK MY 2001 FORD TAURUS TO A LOCAL DEALER TO HAVE A MANDATORY STATE INSPECTION PERFORMED. THE SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED ME THAT ONE OF THE REAR COIL SPRINGS WAS CRACKED AND HE SAID BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS NEED TO BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. I WAS TOLD TO STOP DRIVING THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE BROKEN SPRING COULD PUNCTURE A TIRE, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. NEW REAR COIL SPRINGS WERE ORDERED AND WILL BE INSTALLED BY THE DEALER ON 6/23/10. I HOPE THAT FORDS REAR SPRINGS THAT CAME STOCK WITH THE 2001 TAURUS ARE PUT UNDER RECALL BECAUSE IF NOT I CAN ONLY GUESS THAT THE TIRE COMPANY'S HAVE MANY UNHAPPY FORD CUSTOMERS HEADING THEIR WAY WITH TORN TIRES FROM REAR COIL SPRINGS BREAKING AND PUNCTURING TIRES AND ALSO SOME VERY COSTLY SUSPENSION REPAIRS.
