FRONT & REAR SPRINGS FAILED ON 2001 FORD TAURUS & WERE REPLACED. FRONT SPRINGS ALSO DESTROYED STRUTS & WERE COVERED UNDER A MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. REAR SPRINGS ALSO DESTROYED SHOCKS BUT WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. FORD DEALER INDICATED THAT THIS FAILURE WAS "COMMON" ON THIS MODEL YEAR. *TR
INSPECTION OF SUSPENSION ON MY 2001 FORD TAURUS BY TIRE SHOP ON 11 OCT 08 REVEALED BOTH REAR SPRINGS ARE BROKEN. INTERNET SITES LIST NUMEROUS INCIDENTS OF TIRES BEING PUNCTURED BY BROKEN SPRINGS. I GUESS NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE DIED IN ORDER TO FORCE FORD TO RECALL THIS VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION? YOU WOULD THINK FORD OR THE NEWS MEDIA WOULD INFORM THE PUBLIC ABOUT THIS POTENTIALLY FATAL DEFECT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE DID NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION BECAUSE BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS FAILED. HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 61,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT A RECALL, BUT WAS INFORMED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. HE WAS EXPERIENCING SEAT BELT FAILURE AND STATED THAT WHEN HE BUCKLES THE BELT, THE SEAT BELT INDICATOR LIGHT STILL ILLUMINATES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. WHEN HE UNBUCKLES THE BELT, IT WILL NOT BUCKLE PROPERLY AGAIN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 137,000.
I HAVE A 2001 FORD TAURUS SES SDN. I LOOKED ON FORDS WEB SITE FOR RECALLS AND TO MY SURPRISE THERE WHERE NONE FOR REAR SUSPENSION COIL SPRINGS, THIS IS THE 4TH COIL SPRING THAT HAS BROKEN ON THIS CAR AND I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 4 YEARS. I JUST DRIVE TO AND FROM WORK WITH THIS MANY BREAKS THERE HAS TO BE SOME KIND OF ENGINEERING OR PARTS DEFECT, THIS SHOULD NOT EVEN BE HAPPENING , I COULD SEE IT IF I HAULED STUFF IN THE CAR OVER A PERIOD OF TIME AGAIN I JUST DRIVE. I SEE YOU HAVE DONE AN INVESTIGATION AND CLOSED YOUR CASE LAST YEAR. I TELL YOU THAT THERE ARE ALOT OF OTHER ONE'S THAT HAD TO BEEN BREAKING I AM SURE THAT NONE OF MY 4 HAVE REACHED YOUR COMPLAINTS OR ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS. 2001 FORD TAURUS REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKE ON BOTH SIDES. VERY COMMON COMPLAINT ON THIS CAR ALTHOUGH FORD WON'T ISSUE A RECALL. THEY HAVE ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS BUT REFUSE TO DO THE SAME FOR THE REAR. *TR

THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AND IT WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE AND A GRILL WERE DESTROYED. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 165,000.
DROVE HOME FROM WORK. WAS INSIDE MY HOME ABOUT 10 MINUTES. HEARD A LOUD NOISE WENT OUT SIDE AND MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. FIRE MEN PUT IT OUT AND SAID IT PROBABLY STARTED UP IN THE DASH AREA. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 FORD TAURUS SES. ABOUT 5 MONTHS AGO (~90 K MILES) MY FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SPRING BROKE. THE SPRING WAS REPLACED UNDER RECALL. YESTERDAY (~103 K MILES), I FOUND THE REAR DRIVER SIDE COIL SPRING ALSO CRACKED OPEN AND HANGING VERY NEAR TO THE TIRE. THIS CAR DRIVES 98% ON I-94 AT A SPEED OF 75MPH. THANK GOD THE BROKEN SPRING DID NOT POP MY TIRE OPEN. DEALER CHECKED AND FOUND BOTH THE REAR SPRINGS BROKEN. A $385 ESTIMATE IS GIVEN FOR JUST REPLACING THE SPRING (NOT THE STRUTS). I CHECKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN TAURUS. FORD SHOULD COME FORWARD AND PUT A RECALL ON THE REAR SPRINGS TOO. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS FRACTURED. ONE OF THE REAR CORNERS OF THE VEHICLE WAS LEANING EXTREMELY LOW. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, HE DISCOVERED VARIOUS COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME ISSUE FROM OTHER CONSUMERS. THE SPRING ALSO BECAME DISLODGED FROM ITS NORMAL POSITION. HE HAS NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE REAR SPRINGS AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 129,735 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 129,600.
MY FORD TAURUS 1ST BROKE DOWN ON THE INTERSTATE. I WAS ON MY WAY TAKING MY KIDS TO CHUCK E. CHEESE. IT RAN HOT OUT OF THE BLUE. AFTER THAT I GOT IT TOWED, I DID REPLACE THE MOTOR, HAD THE TRANSMISSION WORKED ON, REPLACE MANY SENSORS, REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER, REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, THE SENSOR OF THE AIR CONDITION. I HAVE REPLACED ALMOST EVERYTHING ON THAT CAR FROM THE TIME I BOUGHT IT IN 07 UNTIL 2010. AND ITS STILL NOT RUNNING. ITS PARKED THEY ARE SAYING ITS SOMETHING WITH THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN. I HAVE SPENT SO MUCH MONEY IN THAT PIECE OF JUNK FORD. I FEEL THEY SHOULD FIX THE TRANSMISSION THIS TIME AND GIVE ME SOME OF MONEY BACK FOR ALL THE REPAIRS. AND FOR THE RECORD MY DATES ARE ESTIMATED BECAUSE I JUST PARKED AND IT AND STOP KEEPING UP WITH IT. JUST PLAIN OLE GOT TIRED. THAT CAR TOOK ME BROKE. I FINALLY HAD TO BOW DOWN AND GO GET ANOTHER 1 WITH PAYMENTS AS LAST RESORT. FOR ME AND MY 2 LITTLE GIRLS 1 OF THEM WHOM IS DISABLED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE CONTACT STRUCK A GUARD RAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, SHE NEVER NOTICED ANY AIR BAG WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE AND A COPY OF THE POLICE REPORT. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND IS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 110,700.
BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS ON OUR 2001 FORD TAURUS SEL RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKE. THE BROKEN COIL SPRINGS THEN FELL DOWN PAST THE SPRING SEAT AND THE JAGGED, BROKEN EDGE OF THE SPRINGS CUT THE INNER SIDE WALL OF BOTH REAR TIRES. THE RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT AS A RESULT OF THIS WHILE WE WERE TRAVELING 35 MILES PER HOUR. BOTH REAR TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS INJURED. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD! IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED OR WHILE IN A CURVE, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT! PLEASE MAKE FORD INSTALL COIL SPRING SEAT EXTENSIONS AND NEW COIL SPRINGS ON THE REAR OF THESE CARS TO PREVENT THE COIL SPRINGS FROM FALLING INTO THE TIRE AREA, THIS WAS DONE ON THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS FOR THIS CAR AND SHOULD ALSO BE DONE ON THE REAR BEFORE SOMEONE GETS TERRIBLY INJURED OR KILLED! CAR APPEARED TO LOWER IN THE BACK END THAN IT SHOULD BE. TAKEN TO REPAIR SHOP. DIAGNOSED WITH BROKEN SPRING WHICH WAS RUBBING REAR TIRES NEEDING 2 NEW TIRES. CAR HAS ONLY 75,000 MILES. COST OVER $1000. *TR
WHILE ON VACATION, DRIVER SIDE REAR SPRING BROKE, CAUSING DRIVER SIDE REAR STRUT TO BREAK. HAD TO REPLACE BOTH REAR SPRINGS AND STRUTS. CAR CURRENTLY HAS ONLY 31,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

THREE OF THE FOUR SPRINGS ON OUR 2001 FORD TAURUS ARE BROKEN AT UNDER 100 THOUSAND MILES. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN ABUSED. THE BROKEN SPRING CAN PUNCTURE TIRE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE WERE NOT FATAL AND THERE WASN'T A CRASH. I WAS DRIVING AND BEGAN TO HEAR A RUBBING NOISE IN THE BACK TIRE OF MY CAR. WHEN I TOOK THE WHEEL OFF TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE THE REAR COIL SPRING HAD BROKE AND WAS RUBBING A GROOVE INTO MY TIRE. I THEN HAD TO REPLACE BOTH REAR SPRINGS AND BOTH REAR TIRES. I RECENTLY TOOK MY CAR INTO HAVE THE REAR BRAKES REPLACED AND WAS TOLD THE SPRINGS WERE ONCE AGAIN BROKEN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I'M HAVE NOW PAID CLOSE TO $1000 ON FAULTY SPRING AND REPAIR. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 FORD TAURUS AND THE REAR COIL SPRINGS ARE BROKEN. HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS. *TR
I HAD 3 BROKEN COIL SPRINGS ON MY CAR AT ONE TIME. I LEARNED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS, BUT NOT ON THE BACK. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAULT ON THE COIL SPRINGS WAS SALT ON THE ROAD, WHICH IS WHAT CAUSED MY FRONT AND REAR COIL SPRINGS TO BREAK. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE REAR COIL SPRINGS, AS WELL AS THE FRONT. I CALLED FORD'S COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT, AND THEY SAID THIS WOULD NOT BE CHANGED. THEN, I HAD BROKEN SHOCK ABSORBERS, WHICH MY FORD GARAGE TOLD ME WAS A RESULT OF THE COIL SPRINGS. SO NOT ONLY DID I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REAR COIL SPRINGS, BUT I ALSO HAVE TO PAY TO REPAIR THE SHOCK ABSORBERS! THE GARAGE MANAGER SAID HE HAS HAD NUMEROUS CASES LIKE THIS -- IN FACT, HE HAD TWO IN THE SHOP IN THE SAME WEEK. *TR
REAR SPRINGS SNAPPED DESTROYING BOTH TIRES. BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT REAR SPRINGS AND STRUTS AND BOTH REAR TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2001 TAURUS BRAND NEW IN 2001. WHEN I GOT MY CAR INSPECTED IN 2008 THE INSPECTOR INFORMED ME THAT THERE WERE 4 BROKEN SPRINGS ON MY CAR! ONE ON EACH WHEEL! IT WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION. SO FAR I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO AFFORD TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE ESTIMATE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM IS $1200! *TR

2001 FORD TAURUS. BACK (REAR) SUSPENSION SPRINGS BROKE. ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS THE BROKEN SPRINGS CAN PUNCTURE THE TIRE AND ULTIMATELY CAUSE PHYSICAL AND/OR PROPERTY HARM. THE FRONT SPRINGS HAD A RECALL ON THEM RELATED TO THIS ISSUE HOWEVER, NOT THE REAR SPRINGS. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS AND VERY COMMON ACCORDING TO TWO DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOPS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL. *TR
BACK SPRINGS BROKE AND ALMOST PUNCTURED A TIRE. WE HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE SPRINGS REPLACED ON THE REAR. IF EVERYONE WAS AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL DANGER WITH THE FRONT SPRINGS WHY WEREN'T THE BACK SPRINGS ALSO INCLUDED IN THE SAFETY RECALL? I THINK THIS IS SOMETHING SOMEONE SHOULD LOOK INTO BECAUSE THIS IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE. IT IS VERY UNFAIR TO HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT FORD SHOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF. DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING CAR AND HEARD FUNNY RATTLING NOISE IN FRONT END WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. I CHECKED OUT THE FRONT END AND FOUND THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN. WHILE GETTING THAT FIXED THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR COIL SPRING WAS FOUND TO BE BROKEN ALSO! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 30-40 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY SHUT OFF LOSE POWER STEERING ABILITY. THE VEHICLE WOULD DRIFT TO A STOP AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. DURING THE FIRST FEW FAILURES, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WALK HOME. SHE SENT HER HUSBAND TO CHECK THE VEHICLE AND IT STARTED UP NORMALLY. ON OTHER OCCASIONS, IT WOULD TAKE HOURS TO DAYS BEFORE THE VEHICLE COULD BE RESTARTED. TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS HAVE PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TESTS ON THE VEHICLE AND THEY BOTH STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS THE BOX INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE BY THE LOAN COMPANY. THE CONTACT CALLED THE LOAN COMPANY AND THEY INFORMED HER TO CALL THEIR TECHNICIAN. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IT WAS NOT THE BOX, EVEN THOUGH IT HAD NOT YET BEEN INSPECTED. HE ALSO REFUSED TO REPLACE THE BOX UNLESS THE CONTACT PAID $80 FOR THE INSPECTION SERVICE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 96,500.
REAR SUSPENSION COILS SNAPPED IN HALF REQUIRING A COMPLETE REPLACE OF REAR SUSPENSION. *TR
AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I HEARD A SOUND FROM MY CAR'S REAR END. AFTER I TURNED AROUND AND RETURNED HOME I SMELLED BURNING RUBBER AND NOTICED PIECES OF RUBBER INSIDE THE WHEEL. I REMOVED THE WHEEL AND SAW THAT THE STRUT SPRING HAD BROKEN AND WAS RUBBING THE INSIDE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE AWAY. IF THIS HAD OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY, IT VERY WELL COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. LUCKILY I WAS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OR MY DAUGHTER WAS NOT DRIVING. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD THAT OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING AND WILL PRODUCE AN UNCONTROLLABLE CAR. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND ALSO CALLED FORD'S CUSTOMER SERVICE HOTLINE BUT THEY WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT THIS HAZARD OR WILL THEY HELP IN THE REPAIR. THE FRONT SPRINGS WERE UNDER A RECALL BUT I DIDN'T KNOW THIS UNTIL ONE OF THESE FAILED. FORD REPLACED THE FRONT SPRINGS AFTER THIS HAPPENED. FROM LOOKING AT THIS SITE, THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THIS COMPONENT. *TR
I WAS GETTING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE WHEN THE REPAIR MAN SAID THAT BOTH OF MY REAR COIL SPRINGS WERE BROKEN ON MY '01 FORD TAURUS. HE MENTIONED THAT A BROKEN REAR COIL SPRING CAN PUNCTURE TIRES AND LEAD TO ACCIDENTS. HE FURTHER EXPLAINED THAT IT WOULD COST ROUGHLY $1400 TO REPLACE THE COIL SPRINGS AND SHOCKS AND ALL THE FITTINGS ETC.. I HAD NEVER HEARD THIS SEVERE OF A PROBLEM WITH A VEHICLE THAT HAS LESS THAN 100K. I FURTHER DID RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE TO FIND THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS AND THE BEST THAT FORD WILL SAY ABOUT IT IS, "IT HAS NOT CAUSED ANY SERIOUS ACCIDENTS." I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE BEFORE A COMPANY OWNS UP TO THE PROBLEM AND TAKES CARE OF IT. I WILL SURELY NOT BUY ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE IF THIS IS THE WAY THEY DO BUSINESS. *TR
REAR SPRING BROKE, ONLY 57,000 MILES ON MY 2001 TAURUS. MECHANIC CLAIMED YOU NEED TO REPLACE BOTH - COST IS $1033!! *TR

THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES IN THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 103,000.
STARTING ENGINE WITH TRANSMISSION IN PARK; WON'T SHIFT OUT OF PARK, BRAKE LIGHTS DON'T WORK. OCCURS DAILY. HAVE TO TURN ENGINE OFF, START, THEN PUT INTO GEAR, BUT BRAKE LIGHTS STILL DON'T USUALLY WORK. TRIED TO HAVE FORD DEALER REPAIR UNDER RECALL (04V10600 OR 04S12, RELATED TO 1S08?), BUT WAS TOLD BY DEALER & FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE IT DIDN'T APPLY TO MY VIN. PAID DEALER TO REPLACE BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND WIRING. CONCERNED AS BOTH FAILURE TO SHIFT INTO GEAR & BRAKE LIGHT FAILURE HAVE LEFT THE DRIVER STRANDED & AT RISK OF AN ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MY VEHICLE AND PROBABLY MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE, THAT WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE PREVIOUS RECALL. REPAIR COST 158.61. *TR

APPROX. MID-MAY 2008 NOTICED COOLANT SMELL IN CAR AND WATER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR INSIDE 2001 FORD TAURUS WAGON. WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS, AC BLOWER MOTOR ONLY WORKED ON HIGH. TOOK TO SHERWOOD FORD IN SALISBURY, MD END OF MAY 2008 FOR REPAIR. THEY REPLACED RESISTORS TO BLOWER MOTOR AND STATED PROBLEM WAS DUE TO CORROSION FROM WATER DAMAGE FROM LEAK IN WINDSHIELD/COWL. BLOWER WORKED FINE UNTIL AUGUST 18, 2008 STARTED WORKING ONLY ON HIGH AGAIN. TOOK BACK TO SHERWOOD FORD 8-25-08, THEY ARE CURRENTLY REPLACING RESISTORS AGAIN AND STATE THAT BLOWER MOTOR SHOULD BE REPLACED TOO BECAUSE IT IS NOT WORKING UP TO PAR DUE TO WATER DAMAGE. INTERNET SEARCH OF FORD TAURUS COWL LEAK REVEALS MANY OTHER PEOPLE OWNING FORD TAURUS/MERCURY SABLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND FORD WILL NOT ISSUE RECALL. I CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE THE BLOWER, IF IT GOES OUT ALTOGETHER THEN A DANGEROUS SITUATION COULD DEVELOP DUE TO INABILITY TO CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD OF FOG, ETC. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR BRAKE WORK, THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS FAILED. THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED TIRE DAMAGE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 63,000.
NOISE WAS NOTICED COMING FROM REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. SOUNDED LIKE BRAKE PAD STICKING. AFTER A COUPLE OF MILES OF DRIVING THE TIRE BLEW OUT. WHEN INVESTIGATING TIRE FAILURE IT WAS FOUND THE SPRING HAD BROKEN AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THE FAILURE JUST HAPPENED TODAY THEREFORE THERE HAS BEEN NO RESOLUTION. OUR 2001 FORD TAURUS HAD BEEN SITTING IN THE GARAGE FOR 4 MONTHS. MY WIFE BACKED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND HEARD A NOISE. I DROVE IT AROUND THE BLOCK AND HEARD THE NOISE ALSO. I REMOVED THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL AND DISCOVERED THE RIGHT REAR STRUT SPRING HAD BROKEN AND WAS RUBBING ON THE TIRE. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY ON 4/7/08 THAT MY 2001 FORD TAURUS WAS BEING RECALLED TO HAVE FRONT ANTI-CORROSION SHIELDS INSTALLED ON THE FRONT SPRINGS. ON 4/8/08 THE LT FRONT SPRING RUSTED THROUGH AND PUNCTURED THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. HAD I BEEN DRIVING AT THE TIME I WOULD HAVE BEEN PULLED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD SORRY THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 3900 MILES EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A RECALL PROBLEM. I TRIED TO EXPLAIN THAT 4/7/08 WAS THE FIRST NOTICE I RECEIVED AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD BEEN TRYING TO RECALL THE CAR SINCE 2004 BUT HAD BEEN SENDING THE NOTICES TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2006. IT DID NOT MATTER THAT WAS THE FIRST NOTICE I HAD RECEIVED. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY FAULT BECAUSE I HAD PURCHASED A USED VEHICLE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE BECAUSE ILLINOIS WAS SLOW TO UPDATE THEIR DATABASE FOR FORD. I AM NOW RESPONSIBLE FOR A 900.00 REPAIR BILL. HAD THEY CONTACTED ME IN A TIMELY MANNER, THE SHIELDS WOULD HAVE BEEN INSTALLED IN 2006. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT ANY PRUDENT CONSUMER LOOKS FOR ANY RECALLS ON THAT VEHICLE ON THE CORPORATE WEB SITE BEFORE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. THERE WAS NO SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, BUT THE TEMPERATURE DIAL DROPPED QUICKLY. WITHIN MINUTES, THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. SHE ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO COOL OFF AND IT WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT ALL OF THE FLUIDS WERE FINE; HOWEVER, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED. THE VEHICLE HEADS WERE MADE OF ALUMINUM AND WHEN THE ENGINE OVERHEATED, THEY WARPED AND CRACKED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE ENTIRE MOTOR TO BE REPLACED. DURING THE ENTIRE ORDEAL, THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 80,000. I HAVE A 2001 FORD TAURUS PURCHASED FROM DAN BUCKEY FORD IN CHESTNUT RIDGE, NY (NOW DIAMOND FORD). A FEW YEARS AGO (2005 I THINK) WE RECEIVED NOTICE ABOUT DEFECTIVE FRONT COIL SPRINGS. WE TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AND HAD SHIELDS INSTALLED THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT FROM TIRE BLOWOUTS. THEY ALSO SAID THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS WARRANTY WOULD BE EXTENDED TO 150,000 MILES. WHILE THE CAR WAS IN THE DEALER, THEY TOLD US THAT THE LEFT REAR COIL SPRING WAS BROKEN. THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL OR THE WARRANTY. WE HAD TO PAY $600 TO GET IT REPAIRED. YESTERDAY, THE RIGHT REAR COIL SPRING BROKE. AGAIN, NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. COIL SPRINGS SHOULD RARELY BREAK ON CARS. IF THE FRONT SPRINGS ARE DEFECTIVE, THEN IT MAKES SENSE THAT THE REAR SPRINGS ARE TOO. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE AND FORD SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. *TR
REAR PASSENGER COIL SPRING BROKE, DUG INTO THE REAR SIDE OF THE TIRE ALL THE WAY AROUND DOWN TO THE BELT. I FOUND IT BY ACCIDENT WHEN WASHING MY WIFE'S CAR, COULD HAVE BEEN A REAL DISASTER BECAUSE SHE DROVE ON THE FREEWAY EARLIER THAT DAY. REPLACING BOTH SPRINGS AND TIRE AT A COST OF APPROX $500. *TR
