TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE DRIVER'S SIDE COIL SPRING FAILED. THE MECHANIC REPLACED BOTH COIL SPRINGS, A DAMAGED CV JOINT, A FAILED CONNECTOR ROD, AND A DAMAGED STRUT. THE CONTACT NEVER RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE, AND DIDN'T KNOW IF THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED WITH THE PREVIOUS OWNER PER RECALL# 04V332000. THE CONTACT HAD THE FRONT BRAKE PADS REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 120,000.*AK
HELLO, I HAVE A 2001 FORD TAURUS PURCHASED USED FROM PUNDMANN FORD FEB. 2003. A FEW DAYS AGO I NOTICED A LARGE PIECE OF COIL SPRING UNDER THE CAR. THINKING THAT THE SPRING WAS FROM THE FRONT AND RELATED TO THE SHIELDS THAT WERE INSTALLED UNDER A PREVIOUS RECALL I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT BOTH REAR SPRINGS WERE BROKEN. HOW CAN A VEHICLE THAT HAS NOT SUFFERED HARSH WINTERS AND IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD HAVE BROKEN SPRINGS? MY TRUNK IS NEVER WEIGHTED DOWN AND I DO NOT TOW ANYTHING. DID THE REAR SPRINGS COME FROM THE SAME VENDOR THAT SUPPLIED THE DEFECTIVE FRONT SPRINGS? AS FAR AS I KNOW THIS IS UNHEARD OF, EVEN THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WAS SURPRISED. THE FORD SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE "SHOULD NOT HAVE PASSED THE STATE SAFETY INSPECTION WITH THESE BROKEN SPRINGS". BROKEN REAR COIL SPRINGS. I WAS TO THE DEALER 2 MONTHS AGO AND HAD THE BROKEN FRONT COIL SPRINGS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. NOW, DURING A STATE INSPECTION ,WAS INFORMED THE REAR SPRINGS WERE BROKEN AND MUST BE REPLACED AT MY COST.*AK
APR 2007 I HAVE A 2001 FORD TAURUS [XXX] PURCHASED USED FROM PUNDMANN FORD FEB. 2003. A FEW DAYS AGO I NOTICED A LARGE PIECE OF COIL SPRING UNDER THE CAR. I PULLED OUT OF MY PARKING LOT AND HEARD A SCRAPING SOUNDS. I DROVE AROUND THE BLOCK BACK INTO MY PARKING LOT AND THE SOUND WAS THERE THE WHOLE TIME. I JACKED THE REAR OF THE CAR UP AND NOTICED THE LEFT REAR SPRING WAS BROKEN AND WAS ACTUALLY SCRAPING THE REAR TIRE. HAD IT TOW TO A SHOP AND REPLACED THE SPRINGS/STRUTS ON THE REAR. REPAIR SHOP TOOK A PICTURE OF THE OLD SPRING WHICH I HAVE. ALSO REPLACED THE REAR TIRE, IT HAD JUST SCRAPED OFF A SURFACE LAYER OF RUBBER, MIGHT HAVE BEEN OK AS IT DIDN'T GET TO THE BELT, BUT FELT SAFER WITH A NEW TIRE. *TR
2001 FORD TAURUS -- REAR COIL SPRING BROKE, THEN PUNCTURED LEFT REAR TIRE WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. DEALER NEEDED TO DO APPROXIMATELY $700 IN REPAIRS.*AK
BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS FRACTURED AT THE SAME TIME, CAR HAS 51,000 MILES ON IT. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FRONT SPRINGS BUT NOT THE REAR, AND NOW THEY HAVE BROKEN, SEEMED VERY STRANGE, AND FORD WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT, REPAIR COST OVER $500. *AK
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH\ THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A NOISE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE REAR COIL SPRINGS AND STRUTS. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO RECALL# 04V332000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76570, AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76620. *AK
DRIVING AT LOW SPEED, AND HEARD A LOAD "POP" FROM THE DRIVER REAR SIDE. I WAS DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF A FIRESTONE SERVICE CENTER AND IMMEDIATELY PULLED IN. UNDER CAR INSPECTION SHOWED THE REAR COIL HAD BROKE AND CUT THROUGH THE INNER SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE. TECHNICIAN SAID ANOTHER 500 FEET WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE TIRE TO BLOW. IF I HAD BEEN AT HIGHWAY SPEED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. THE FIRESTONE MANAGER STATES THEY SEE THIS PROBLEM OFTEN ON TAURUS/SABLE MODELS. I KNEW THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FRONT SPRINGS (I HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL TO CHECK/REPLACE). I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER FOR DETAILS ON WHAT TO DO FOR REAR SPRING RE-CALL AND WAS TOLD THEY KNOW OF NO PROBLEM WITH REAR COILS. I FIND THIS STATEMENT HARD TO BELIEVE, SINCE THE FIRESTONE REPAIR CENTER SEE CARS EVERY MONTH WITH THIS PROBLEM. I HAD BOTH SPRINGS REPLACED,STRUTS (DAMAGED), TIRE REPLACED, AND VEHICLE ALIGNED ($1300 TOTAL). I HAVE DEFECTIVE SPRING IN MY GARAGE. *TR

THE DEALER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE, AND MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS A KIT AVAILABLE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT FORD CUSTOMERS WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE REPAIR KIT. I JUST GOT THROUGH HAVING THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS REPLACED AT THE DEALER UNDER FORDS "CAMPAIGN" TO FIX THE SPRINGS ONLY IF THEY ARE BROKE ON MY 2001 TAURUS..NOW ,NOT EVEN THREE DAYS LATER THE CAR IS BACK AT THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE REAR SPRINGS. WHY SHOULD PEOPLE HAVE TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT OR WORSE POSSIBLY DIE BECAUSE OF A SPRING FAILURE THAT EVERYBODY AND THEIR BROTHER KNOWS IS GOING TO HAPPEN ON THESE TAURUS'? *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. THE BRAKE LIGHT STAYED LIT WHEN THE ENGINE WAS OFF. THE FORD DEALER REPLACED THE STOP LAMP SWITCH HARNESS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT RECALL#04V106000 WAS ISSUED FOR THE SAME FAILURE. HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT IT DID NOT INCLUDE THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THE VIN. THE CONTACT HAS THE REPAIR INVOICE. DETECTED A NOISE IN WHEEL PORTION OF AUTOMOBILE. DROVE TO LOCAL MASTER MECHANIC WHO ADVISED IT WAS A BROKEN RIGHT REAR COIL SPRING CREATING A SHARP BROKEN AREA THAT HAD SCORED THE TIRE, AND CUT. *JB
TL* -THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS SES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH OR FASTER AND GOT WORSE THE VEHICLE REACHED 60 MPH. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AND HAS NOT TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE EMISSIONS CAUSED THE ENGINE LIGHT TO TURN ON, BUT THAT SHE SHOULD NOT WORRY ABOUT IT. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE FOR THREE YEARS NOW. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE LOST POWER ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO, SHE GOT A JUMP START, AND HAD NO PROBLEM AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY IN A REPAIR SHOP, AND SHE WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A COOLANT LEAK, AND THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO HAVE THE RADIATOR FLUSHED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE BOTH 94600.*AK UPDATED 04/09/07. *JB
WHILE PARKED, THE REAR COIL SPRINGS ON BOTH THE DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE HAVE FRACTURED AND PARTS OF THE COIL HAVE FALLEN TO THE GROUND. FORD MOTOR HAS ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS BY ISSUING A RECALL BUT YET DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE REAR COIL SPRINGS AND ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT. *JB

I HAD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE COIL SPRINGS ON THE 2001 FORD TAURUS, AND HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS AT MY EXPENSE. LATER , I FOUND OUT ABOUT SAFETY RECALL 04V332000 , AND PRESENTED THE BILL TO THE LOCAL FORD GARAGE FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF THE PRICE OF THE PARTS. THE DISTRICT FORD RECALL REPRESENTATIVE REFUSED MY CLAIM AND WOULD NOT GIVE A REASON OTHER THAN THE WORK WAS NOT DONE AT A FORD GARAGE. WHAT WERE THE OPTIONS. THE SPRING DESTROYED THE TIRE AND I COULD HAVE CRASHED UNDER OTHER CONDITIONS. *AK
RIGHT REAR SPRING SNAPPED IN HALF WHILE DRIVING AND PART OF THE SPRING SCORED THE TIRE AND IT WENT FLAT. NEED NEW REAR SPRING AND TIRE. *NM
MY 2001 TAURUS WAS TAKEN IN TO GET BRAKES CHECKED. THEY FOUND BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKEN. I WAS TOLD, WHEN THIS HAPPENED TO MY LAST CAR - MERCURY- THAT THIS HAD BEEN FIXED. SINCE I DRIVE FOR A LIVING IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A BIG PROBLEM. FORD HAS KNOW ABOUT THIS FOR AT LEAST 10 YEARS AND HASN'T DONE ANYTHING YET. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY A WARRANTY. *JB

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY, AND THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AS NEEDING THE REAR COIL SPRINGS REPLACED. DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEED RIGHT REAR SPRING ON 2001 FORD TAURUS BROKE AND CUT INSIDE SIDEWALL OF TIRE CAUSING BLOWOUT, WENT TO DEALER FOR REPAIR AND FOUND THAT THE LEFT REAR SPRING WAS BROKEN AND WAS CUTTING THE INSIDE SIDEWALL ON THAT TIRE,RESULTING IN REPAIRS OF $775 DEALER KNOWS ABOUT IT BUT FORD WON'T HELP WITH COST. *JB
ONE WINTER MORNING I PULLED MY 2001 FORD TAURUS OUT OF MY GARAGE TO DO SOME ERRANDS. BECAUSE I HAD SOME SNOW BUILD-UP ON THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL, I FIGURED THE LIGHT GRINDING NOISE WAS FROM THE BUILDUP. WHEN I PULLED UNTO THE STREET AND REACHED HIGHER SPEEDS (ABOUT 45), THE NOISE STOPPED LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE SNOW HAD FALLEN OFF. AFTER ABOUT 4 MILES OF DRIVING, I REACHED THE LOCATION I WAS GOING TO. I GOT OUT OF MY CAR AND NOTICED THE BACK END SAGGING. I KEPT WALKING AROUND MY CAR TO GET MY 22 MONTH OLD SON OUT WHEN I REALIZED I HAD A FLAT TIRE. AFTER TAKING THE TIRE OFF TO REPLACE IT WITH THE SPARE, I TOOK A CLOSER LOOK AT THE TIRE. A GROVE HAD FORMED PERFECTLY AROUND THE LOWER WALL OF THE TIRE. I TOOK THE TIRE IN TO BE REPLACED AND ASKED THAT THEY CHECK OUT THE CAUSE. AFTER BEING REASSURED THAT IT WAS OKAY BUT SHOULD BE LOOKED AT MORE CLOSELY, I DROVE 2 MILES HOME. ONCE AT HOME THE TIRE WAS REMOVED AGAIN ONLY TO AGAIN SEE THE DEEP GROVE IN A BRAND NEW TIRE. CLOSER INSPECTION OF THE CAR RESULTED IN FINDING A BROKEN COIL SPRING THE HAD BEEN RUBBING ON THE TIRE AND HAD CAUSE RAPID AIR DEFLATION AFTER NO MORE THAN 4 MILES OF DRIVING. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE TIRE, THE COIL SPRINGS, AND THE REAR STRUTS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT THE TUNE OF NEARLY $700. I WAS THANKFUL THAT I HAD FORGOT TO TAKE OUT ALL THE WARM WINTER CLOTHES OUT OF MY CAR THAT WE HAD USED THE NIGHT BEFORE TO GO SLEDDING; I WAS ABLE TO KEEP MY SON WARM ON A COLD AND FRIDGED DAY WHERE I WAS TRAPPED WITH A FLAT. *JB
TOOK 2001 FORD TAURUS IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE CHECK AND OIL CHANGE. MECHANIC FOUND THE TWO REAR SPRING COILS WERE BROKEN AND COULD POSE A DANGER IF THEY PUNCTURE THE REAR TIRE(S). WE WILL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE THE REAR SPRING COILS AS I REFUSE TO DRIVE WITH THE BROKEN COILS WITH MY INFANT IN THE CAR AND RISK THE POSSIBILITY OF A TIRE BLOWOUT AND CRASH. WE HAD THE RECALL WORK DONE ON THE FRONT SPRING COILS TO HAVE THE SHIELD PUT IN. WHY DIDN'T FORD ALSO HAVE A RECALL DONE TO HAVE SHIELDS PUT ON THE REAR SPRING COILS? *JB
MY 2001 FORD TAURUS HAD DEVELOPED A LEAK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THE HEATER BLOWER ONLY WORKS ON HIGH. PER THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 04-15-3, THISWAS A MANUFACTURING ERROR WHICH EVENTUALLY WILL RUIN THE CARPET, THE AIR CONDITIONER, AND COST ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS AND MAY NEVER BE FIXED.*AK
TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON JANUARY 5, 2007 THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING IN REVERSE WHEN SHE HEARD A NOISE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE LEFT FRONT TIRE WAS FLAT. THE CONTACT STATED ON JANUARY 4, 2007 HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE GARAGE, HE WENT TO INVESTIGATE AND FOUND NOTHING. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE NOISE HE HEARD WAS THE FRONT TIRE SPRING RUPTURING. THE CONTACT STATED HE HAD HEARD SQUEAKING NOISES COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN IT WOULD GO OVER BUMPS, BUT DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS. THE CONTACT HAD THE MECHANIC TAKE A LOOK AT IT, BUT HE DID NOT FIND ANYTHING. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. WHERE THEY ORDERED TWO NEW FRONT SPRINGS. *AK UPDATED 02/22/07. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT TOOK THE 2001 FORD TAURUS TO DEALER FOR SERVICE ON 01/05/07. THE DEALER STATED THAT BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKE, AND THAT IT WAS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THEY COULD POSSIBLY PUNCTURE A TIRE AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. CONTINUED TO OPERATE HEADLIGHT SWITCH UNTIL PLASTIC PIECE THAT FIT INTO PART BROKE OFF. CAN STILL TURN HEADLIGHTS ON & OFF, BUT ONLY WITH A LOT OF EFFORT. PLANNING TO CALL DEALER TO SEE IF IT CAN BE REPLACED AT NO COST; OTHERWISE WILL DO THE REPAIR MYSELF. *JB
TL* - WHILE DRIVING THE 2001 FORD TAURUS AT 50 MPH THE CONTACT HEARD A RUBBING SOUND AND THE TIRE BLEW. THE CONTACT MAINTAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND PULLED IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT USED THE SPARE TIRE, AND DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME. TWO DAYS LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. AT 50,000 MILES, THE DRIVERS' SIDE REAR COIL SPRING BROKE AND PUNCTURED REAR TIRE. I REPLACED BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS AS WELL AS WORN STRUTS AND BOUGHT TWO NEW TIRES. I DID NOT KEEP THE OLD PARTS. *JB

THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE SPUN AND THEN HIT A TREE. SHE STATED THAT SHE HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. AND MECHANICTOLD HER THAT THE COIL SPRING WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. EDWARD SAID THAT SHE WAS DRIVING AROUND A CURVE WHEN SHE SUDDENLY LOST CONTROL OF HER 2001 FORD TAURUS AND STRUCK A TREE. THE MECHANICAL TOLD HER THAT IT WAS A REAR (NOT FRONT) SUSPENSION SPRING HAD FAILED. THE CRASHED VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO HER HOUSE AND SAT THERE SINCE (NOT REPAIRED).
THE REAR SPRINGS OF MY FORD TAURUS HAVE FRACTURED WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENT OR COLLISION. THE COST OF REPAIR WAS UPWARDS OF $300. IN ADDITION TO THAT THE REAR TIRES HAVE UNDERGONE EXCESSIVE WEAR DUE TO BROKEN SPRINGS. CURRENTLY THE RECALL IS ONLY APPLICABLE TO FRONT SPRINGS, BUT I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT IT SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO REAR SPRINGS ALSO. *NM

ON 12-14-06 I WAS SITTING IN MY 2001 FORD TAURUS WHEN BOTH SPRINGS BROKE I TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED BOTH REAR SPRINGS STRUTS AND MOUNTS. LUCKILY, I WAS NOT DRIVING THE CAR AT THAT TIME. DEALER SAID THESE WERE NOT COVERED ON THE RECALL ONLY THE FRONT SPRINGS. *JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH THE HEATING UNIT FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, AND THE THERMOSTAT WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,600.

I SPOKE WITH A FRIEND OF MINE AND THEY HAD TO HAVE REAR COIL SPRINGS REPLACED ON THEIR TAURUS AS WELL WITH 65000 MILES. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT. *NM
ON MY 2001 FORD TAURUS DURING AN ANNUAL STATE INSPECTION (NOV. 14, 06), THE MECHANIC FOUND A FRACTURED REAR SUSPENSION SPRING THAT WAS VERY CLOSE TO CUTTING THE REAR TIRE. BOTH STRUTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS WERE FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED. AS THE REAR SPRINGS WERE BEING REPLACED, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE STABILIZER LINK WAS BROKEN AS WELL. UPDATED 11/08/06. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PREPARING TO BACK THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE CHILD UNBUCKLED THE SEAT BELT AND WAS ABLE TO UNLOCK THE DOOR. THE CONTACT STATED THE DOOR ALARM DID NOT SOUND. AS THE VEHICLE WAS BACKED OUT AND TO THE LEFT AT 5 MPH, THE 4 YEAR OLD CHILD WAS THROWN OUT THE REAR RIGHT DOOR. THE CHILD BECAME PINNED UNDER THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL OF THE VEHICLE, AND SUSTAINED ABRASIONS AND SWELLING OF THE ANKLES, KNEES, AND LEFT THIGH. THE CHILD WAS TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE MANUFACTURER OF THE BOOSTER SEAT AND VEHICLE WERE NOT NOTIFIED.
