I NOTICED A MUSTY SMELL FIRST. AFTER A HEAVY RAIN I NOTICED THAT MY PASSENGER FOOT WELL WAS SOAKING WET UNDER THE FLOOR MAT. I DRIED IT UP. NEXT TIME IT RAINED IT WAS WET AGAIN AND I DID NOTICE SOME DRIPPING FROM THE TOP RIGHT OF THE FOOT WELL. OTHER WATER IS COMING IN SOMEWHERE ELSE, MAYBE BEHIND THE CARPET AS IT IS GETTING MORE WET EVERY TIME IT RAINS. THE ENTIRE FLOOR IS SOAKED WITH WATER.
A MEMBER OF MY FAMILY WAS APPROACHING A REGULATED INTERSECTION AND SLOWING DOWN IN THE LEFT TURN LANE. THE TRAFFIC LIGHT WAS RED. HIS FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND HE WAS SLOWING DOWN BUT FELT THE ENGINE STILL REVVING. HE CHECKED THE TACHOMETER AND SAW IT WAS AROUND 3000 RPM. HE STOPPED, HELD HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE, SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND REPEATEDLY TAPPED THE ACCELERATOR. AFTER A FEW TAPS, THE THROTTLE "RELEASED" AND THE ENGINE RESUMED A NORMAL IDLE. HE PROCEEDED TO DRIVE HOME ABOUT 1/2 MILE WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT. EARLIER ON THE DRIVE THAT SAME DAY, HE NOTED THAT THE SPEED CONTROL WAS NOT WORKING. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS HOME, WE TOOK OFF THE COVER NEAR THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY AND DISCOVERED THAT THE CABLE FROM THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM HAD COME OFF THE THROTTLE AT IT'S ATTACHMENT POINT. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE CABLE END IS HELD ONTO THE THROTTLE ARM WITH A PLASTIC DETENT. IT WAS VERY EASY TO PUT THE CABLE END ONTO THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY AND WAS ALSO QUITE EASY TO REMOVE IT (REQUIRED VERY LITTLE FORCE). BECAUSE WE WERE NOT ABLE TO SIMULATE THE INCIDENT IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO BE SURE OF THE CAUSE. BUT ONE VERY LIKELY CAUSE IS THE SPEED CONTROL CABLE BEING IN THE PATHWAY OF THE THROTTLE ARM AS IT ROTATES TO ALLOW THE THROTTLE TO REACH IDLE LOCATION. IF IT GOT IN THE WAY, THE RESULT LIKELY WOULD HAVE BEEN AS NOTED ABOVE. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, THERE HAD BEEN NO INDICATION OF THROTTLE STICKING. *TR
I ATTEMPTED TO START MY CAR, THE ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OVER, THERE IS A CLICKING NOISE UNDER THE DASH, AND ALL THE INTERIOR, EXTERIOR AND DASH LIGHTS FLASH. *TR
I WAS TAKING MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL ONE DAY AND I HAD TO BRAKE WHILE I WAS COMING UP BEHIND SOMEONE. WHEN I PRESSED MY BRAKE, I COULD FEEL MY CAR STILL TRYING TO GO..ALMOST AS IF I WERE PRESSING THE GAS AND THE BRAKES AT THE SAME TIME. WHEN THE CAR WOULDN'T COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND THE RPMS WENT UP TO 4,000-4,500. I TAPPED ON THE GAS A COUPLE OF TIMES WHILE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL AND THE ACCELERATION FINALLY STOPPED.THE SAME THING OCCURRED AGAIN WHILE I WAS IN WALMARTS PARKING LOT. AGAIN, I HAD TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND TAP THE GAS TO GET THE ACCELERATION TO STOP. WHEN MY CAR IS IDLING, THE RPMS FLUCTUATE BETWEEN 1,000 AND 2,000 AS IF I WOULD BE TAPPING ON THE GAS, BUT THE GAS PEDAL ISN'T BEING TOUCHED. I HAVE READ OTHER PEOPLES COMPLAINTS, AND SOME HAVE SAID THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE BEEN THE CRUISE CONTROL, BUT MY CRUISE CONTROL HAS NEVER WORKED; I BOUGHT MY CAR USED. I HAVE NOT YET HAD AN ACCIDENT OVER IT, BUT I'M SURE IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. THIS DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE CHECKED INTO. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY CRUISE QUIT WORKING. THEN I NOTICED THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING. I HAD TO PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKES TO COME TO A STOP. AT A STOP THE CAR WAS STILL REVVING UP, AND I COULD NOT STOP IT. I HAD TO HAVE THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE REPLACED. THE CABLE HAD TWISTED AROUND THE ACCELERATOR CABLE. NOW 2 YEARS LATER THE CABLE HAS COME OFF AGAIN, HOWEVER THIS TIME IT DIDN'T WRAP AROUND THE OTHER CABLE AND CAUSE THE ACCELERATOR FORM STICKING. THE REPAIR SHOP PURCHASED A NEW CRUISE CONTROL CABLE DIRECTLY FROM FORD, AND THIS CABLE ALSO DOES NOT STAY ON. THE PLACE WHERE THE CABLE HOOKS ONTO IS NOT WORN, SO OBVIOUSLY FORD HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. *TR
GOING 35MPH I NOTICED THE CAR KEPT GOING FASTER. I THOUGHT GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK AND TRIED TO GET FOOT UNDER IT TO PRY IT UP AND NOTICED IT WAS FLOPPY. I THEN TRIED TO PUMP BRAKES AND CAR WOULD NOT SLOW. I MADE IT THROUGH GREEN LIGHT INTERSECTION BUT WHEN CAR STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME I PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL. BY THIS TIME I WAS TOTALLY PANICKED, THERE WAS NO PLACE TO PULL OVER SO I RODE BRAKES THE REST OF THE WAY HOME, PULLED IN DRIVEWAY AND SHUT ENGINE OFF AND BRAKES WERE STINKING. WHEN MY HUSBAND STARTED IT LATER AND DROVE TO REPAIR GARAGE THEY TOLD US THE CRUISE CONTROL CLIP BROKE OFF AND CAUSED IT TO STICK TILL IT RESET ITSELF. WHEN I CALLED THE FORD DEALER FIRST, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT STICKING. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAD $1500 WORK DONE ON ENGINE THAT HAD A HORRIBLE NOISE FROM DAY ONE AFTER INCIDENT. BEING A 61 YEAR OLD FEMALE I'M SCARED TO DRIVE OVER 40MPH BECAUSE I'M AFRAID IT WILL DO THIS AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT BEING UTILIZED. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RACE AND THE RPMS INCREASED TO APPROXIMATELY 5000. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE12005 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CABLES) THAT COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SEIZED, AFTER BEING DEPRESSED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO INCREASE ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000. UPDATED 05/08/12*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM HAPPENED ON A REGULAR BASIS, USUALLY WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS INOPERATIVE. TAPING THE GAS PEDAL SEEMED TO RELEASE IT FROM THE STUCK POSITION. UPDATED 05/21/12
WHILE DRIVING THE THROTTLE SEEMED TO BE LESS RESPONSIVE THAN NORMAL AND THE ENGINE IDLED AT ABOUT 4000 RPM. THE CAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP AND WANTED TO PUSH THROUGH THE BRAKES. WE HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO SIT OUT A RED LIGHT AS THE ENGINE REVVED. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES SO FAR. I'M NOT SURE OF THE FIRST TIME, THE SECOND WAS LAST YEAR AND THE LATEST WAS JUST TODAY. EACH TIME WE OPENED THE HOOD AND FOUND THAT THE CONTROL CABLE THAT CONNECTS THE THROTTLE BODY TO THE CRUISE CONTROL UNIT WAS DISCONNECTED. ON THE LATEST OCCURRENCE THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVING FINE, SHE MADE A DOWNHILL STOP AT A STOP SIGN, MADE A RIGHT TURN AND AS SHE WAS ACCELERATING THE CAR LURCHED AND WANTED TO TAKE OFF. FOR THE MOST PART THE BRAKES WERE ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR BUT AT A STOP LIGHT SHE HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO REMAIN STATIONARY. AFTER SOME AMOUNT OF FIDDLING WITH THE GAS PEDDLE IT SEEMED TO COME UNSTUCK AND WORKED FOR A SHORT TIME AFTER WHICH IT BEHAVED STUCK AGAIN. OPENING THE HOOD SHE SAW THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HAD COME DISCONNECTED AGAIN. ON THE SECOND OCCURRENCE OF THE CABLE DETACHING OUR TODDLER HAD BEEN PLAYING IN THE DRIVERS SEAT WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED AND TRYING TO PUSH THE GAS PEDDLE WITH HER HANDS. MY BEST GUESS WAS THAT SHE HAD PULLED UP ON THE PEDDLE INSTEAD OF DOWN. TO CONFIRM MY SUSPICION I MADE SURE EVERYTHING WAS CONNECTED AND PULLED UP ON THE PEDDLE WITH MY FOOT, AS SOON AS I GAVE THE CAR GAS THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE CAME DISCONNECTED AGAIN. IT SEEMED REPEATABLE. I'M NOT SURE WHY PULLING ON THE PEDDLE MESSES THINGS UP OR HOW THAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE AN ADULT WAS ACTUALLY DRIVING, BUT I SUPPOSE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE. FOR THE FIRST OCCURRENCE I DON'T HAVE DETAILS BUT MY GIRLFRIEND, WHO OWNS THE CAR, SAID THAT IT HAD HAPPENED BEFORE WHEN IT HAPPENED THE SECOND TIME. SHE SUGGESTED THAT I LOOK AT THE CONNECTION AT THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
OUR 2005 FORD TAURUS THROTTLE STICKS AS IF THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ON, WHEN IN FACT IT IS NOT. THE CRUISE CONTROL NO LONGER WORKS. SHORTLY AFTER THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING IS WHEN THE THROTTLE STARTED TO STICK AND INCREASE SPEED. WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY ACCIDENTS YET, BUT SOME CLOSE CALLS. *JS
THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE POPS OFF OF ITS CONNECTION, AND GETS IN THE WAY OF THE THROTTLE, HOLDING THE CAR AT A HIGHER RPM AND SPEED AFTER THE FOOT PEDAL IS RELEASED. NORMALLY THIS CAN BE HANDLED BY STOMPING ON THE GAS A COUPLE OF TIMES TO CLEAR THE INTERFERENCE AND THE CAR RETURNS TO IDLE. CERTAINLY THE POTENTIAL IS THERE FOR AN ACCIDENT TO OCCUR IF THE DRIVER IS NOT COGNIZANT OF HOW TO HANDLE A VEHICLE THAT ACTS AS IF THE CRUISE HAS BEEN ACTUATED WHEN THE DRIVER IS NOT EXPECTING IT TO DO SO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS BETWEEN 5 AND 25 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD BECOME STUCK ABNORMALLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000. UPDATED 04/10/12*LJ THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. THE CAUSE WAS THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE, WHICH BROKE AND WORE OUT THE THROTTLE BODY. UPDATED 04/20/12
I HAVE MULTIPLE TIMES WHERE MY CAR IS ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN AND HAVE TO PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL TO STOP IT. RPM'S ARE SO HIGH THE REV LIMITER KICKS IN AND AT LEAST 15-20 TIMES WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH THE CAR AT IDLE, CAR WOULD ACCELERATE FAST WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE ALMOST HITTING CAR IN FRONT OF ME, ONCE AGAIN PUTTING IN NEUTRAL TO STOP IT, HAD IT LOOKED AT BY SERVICE CENTERS BUT NO FAULT CODES WERE FOUND AND WAS TOLD NOT REPAIRABLE IF NO CODE WERE FOUND BECAUSE THEY WOULD BE GUESSING FOR THE PROBLEM. AND I DID LOOK TO SEE IF THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS ON OR OFF THE LINKAGE ASSEMBLY, BUT CABLE WAS ATTACHED OK AND HAD NOT FALLEN OFF LIKE OTHER REPORTS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATE . THE CONTACT PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL UNTIL THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION. AS I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD LIKE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON, BUT IT WASN'T. IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND I WAS NARROWLY ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. SINCE THAT TIME I HAD SEVERAL RECURRENCES OF THIS SAME PROBLEM. SOME WHILE DRIVING. SOME WHILE SITTING STILL. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE, AND I AM WONDERING HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE UNTIL A RECALL IS ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC STOP, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TURNED INTO A SIDE STREET, PLACED THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF TO STOP THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
MY 2005 FORD TAURUS ALL OF THE SUDDEN STARTED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS OCTOBER 1, 2012. I WAS GOING 45 MPH WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT STARTED REVVING UP EVEN AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES. I HAD TO JUMP UP ONTO A MEDIAN AT 65ISH MPH TO AVOID OTHER CARS. THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SMOKE AND GRIND AS I TRIED TO STOP. I HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. EVEN STOPPED THE MOTOR CONTINUED TO REV AT 8000 RPM. I HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF. SINCE THEN THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION HAS OCCURRED FIVE MORE TIMES. I HAD TO TAKE IT IN FOR BRAKE REPAIRS AND THE MECHANIC SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING THE ACCELERATION AND SUGGESTED I REMOVE MY FLOOR MATS AS THEY MAY HAVE GOTTEN JAMMED UNDER THE PEDAL. WHILE I KNOW THIS TO BE FALSE I NONETHELESS REMOVED THE FLOOR MATS AND THE CONDITION REMAINS. ANOTHER TERRIFYING INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS VISITING MY DAUGHTER. SHE LIVES OFF A WINDY DIRT ROAD HIGH ON A LEAF COVERED RIDGE. I USUALLY DON?T GO ANY FASTER THAN 15 MPH ON HER ROAD. THE CAR EXPERIENCED ANOTHER SUDDEN ACCELERATION AS I WAS TURNING A BEND. THE CAR BEGAN TO SLIDE ON THE LEAVES AND I BOUNCED OFF A TREE STUMP AND ALMOST HIT MY DAUGHTER?S FIANC. AGAIN I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP AND HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF. THE LAST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY BEFORE I TOOK THE CAR OUT OF PARK. I HAD TO MASH DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR TO BRING IT BACK TO IDLE. AT THIS POINT I AM TOO AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR. I HAVE INCURRED REPLACEMENT BRAKE BILLS AND VARIOUS CAR DAMAGES AS A RESULT OF THESE INCIDENTS. THANKFULLY NO ONE HAS BEEN HURT. *TR
DRIVING DOWN EXPRESSWAY AND CAR BEGAN TO SPEED UP ON ITS OWN. COULD NOT GET IT TO SLOW DOWN. HAD TO PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PULL INTO EMERGENCY LANE. I THEN TURNED CAR OFF AND WAS ABLE TO STOP. HAD TO BE TOWED TO SHOP. THROTTLE WAS FIXED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT TRIED TO STOP THE VEHICLE BUT FAILED. THE CONTACT EVENTUALLY SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN AND PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE THROTTLE PLATE WAS FOUND TO BE DIRTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2005 FORD TAURUS AND IT WAS RUNNING FINE FOR LIKE 2 DAYS. THEN THE CRUISE STOPPED WORKING A FEW DAYS LATER THE ACCELERATOR BEGAN TO STICK. I WAS GOING ABOUT 30 AND SUDDENLY THE CAR BEGAN TO TAKE OFF ON ITS OWN AND I NEARLY HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD TO STEER OFF THE ROAD AND PRESSING THE BRAKES WAS VERY HARD. THIS SEEMS TO BE A TREND FOR THE CAR AND IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!! SOMEONE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DIE FOR THIS TO BE RECALLED!! *KB
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, VEHICLE WAS TRYING TO SURGE FORWARD WHILE AT A STOP SIGN. ENGINE WAS REVVING VERY HIGH; HAD TO PRESS DOWN REALLY HARD ON THE BRAKES TO PREVENT VEHICLE FROM SURGING FORWARD. TOOK IT TO FORD DEALER (BANKSTON FORD, FORT WORTH TX) WHO SAID THAT THE 'DIAGNOSIS OF CRUISE CONTROL NOT WORKING AND PURCHASE OF A NEW CRUISE CONTROL CABLE.'. I PAID $190.00' TO THE REPAIR, BUT IT STILL SEEMS TO OCCUR SPORADICALLY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED QUICKLY. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL, HOWEVER IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE BEYOND 65 MPH, DESPITE MY PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. AS I WAS ON A BUSY MAIN ROAD WITH MULTIPLE STOP LIGHTS, I HAD TO RIDE THE SHOULDER AND DRIVE THROUGH TWO STOPLIGHTS (APPROXIMATELY 0.25 MILE) BEFORE FORCING THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES OVER THE NEXT WEEK. MY LOCAL GARAGE DID A DIAGNOSTIC AND STATED THAT THE PROBLEM INVOLVED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE COMING LOOSE. FIRST, I WANT TO SAY THAT THIS VEHICLE IS WELL MAINTAINED AND SERVICED ON A REGULAR BASIS. IT WAS A PLEASANT SUMMER DAY BUT HAD MORE OF A AUTUMN FEELING WHETHER. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN EAST TENNESSEE, I HAD JUST MERGE ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR MAYBE 10 MINUTES. I SLOWED DOWN FOR TRAFFIC TO ABOUT 40 MPH AS I CREST A HILL. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THIS TIME THAT THE TUBE IN WHICH THE THROTTLE CABLE IS INSERTED WAS FILLED WAS DEBRIS SO THAT CAUSED ANOTHER JAM. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT CHARGE ME AGAIN FOR THIS SERVICE BUT IT LEADS TO ME SUSPECT IF THERE ARE FURTHER ISSUES WITH THE ACCELERATOR ITSELF. *TR

THIS EVENTUALLY TURNED INTO THE THROTTLE STICKING OPEN AND NOT RETURNING TO IDLE. THE ON THE ROAD FIX WAS TO PUSH QUICKLY ON THE THROTTLE PEDAL A COUPLE TIMES TO GET THE THROTTLE TO RELEASE TO IDLE. THIS ALSO NECESSITATED RIDING THE BRAKES TO KEEP THE CARS SPEED UNDER CONTROL. OVER TIME THE ISSUE BECAME WORSE, WITH THE THROTTLE STICKING OPEN MORE OFTEN. WHAT I FOUND WHEN INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE WAS THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE FITTING AT THE THROTTLE LINKAGE WAS DISCONNECTED. THE FITTING WOULD SNAP BACK ONTO THE PROPER PLACE BUT WAS VERY LOOSE AND WOULD POP BACK OFF EASILY WHEN THE THROTTLE WAS ACTUATED. I USED A PLASTIC TIE-WRAP TO TIGHTEN THE LOCKING MECHANISM IN PLACE. ANOTHER ITEM THAT I FOUND WAS A LOT OF VARNISH WHERE THE THROTTLE BUTTERFLY MET THE THROTTLE BODY (INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY) AT/NEAR IDLE. THIS CONTRIBUTED TO THE STICKING CLOSED/OPEN ISSUE. I USED CARB CLEANER WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY AROUND THE BUTTERFLY, AND OUTSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY ON THE LINKAGE. THE ISSUE AT THIS POINT HAS NOT RETURNED. I DO FEEL THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE CONNECTOR AT THE END OF THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. SINCE IT SEEMS TO BE AFFECTING OTHERS ABOUT THE SAME MILEAGE, IT SEEMS TO BE A WEAR ISSUE OF AN UNDER DESIGNED CONNECTOR. I DON'T KNOW IF THE VARNISH BUILD UP (AMOUNT) IS OUT OF THE ORDINARY, BUT HAVE NOT HAD THE STICKING THROTTLE ISSUE ON ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE OWNED. I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, WAITED A MINUTE OR TWO, AND RESTARTED THE CAR. EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE COMPLETELY NORMAL. THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS. IN EACH CASE WHEN I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED IT, ALL SEEMED TO BE NORMAL. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL AUTO MECHANIC, AND HE WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE MY EXPERIENCE. HE SAID HE SUSPECTED THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE CRUISE CONTROL, AND THAT A REPAIRS COULD BE SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS. OR HE COULD SIMPLY DISCONNECT THE CRUISE CONTROL. I CHOSE THE LATER. *TR

PRIOR TO THE FIRE, THE GAS AND BRAKE PEDAL BECAME HARD AND THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. UPDATED 09/12/11
MY CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITH VERY LITTLE PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. I PUSHED THE BRAKES ALL THE WAY DOWN BUT BRAKES WOULDN'T STOP THE CAR. THE ENGINE REVVED SO HIGH I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO JUST SHUT THE CAR OFF. I THEN TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND IT REVVED REALLY HIGH AGAIN. I HAVE HAD IT TOWED AND WORKED ON TWICE AND THE THROTTLE KEEPS GETTING STUCK. ILL BE DRIVING AND IT JUST GET STUCK AND I HAVE A HARD TIME GETTING IT TO STOP WITH MY BRAKES. MY CRUISE CONTROL IS NO LONGER WORKING AS WELL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE THE ENGINE ROARED WITH AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN RPMS. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AFTER SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS INOPERABLE AT THE TIME. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE12005 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CABLES) THAT COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND COMPLETING A LEFT TURN, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL REPEATEDLY UNTIL THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. AFTER THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO PARK, THE ENGINE RPMS CONTINUED TO INCREASE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS FRACTURED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000. *TR
WHEN EITHER DRIVING OR STAYING STILL, MY 2005 FORD TAURUS WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE TO WHERE PRESSING ON THE BREAK WOULD NOT CONTROL THE CAR. I WOULD EITHER TRY TO LIFT THE ACCELERATION PEDDLE UP WITH MY HAND, WHICH BROKE THE PEDAL IN ONE CASE, OR PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, WHICH WOULD REV THE RPM'S TO 4000+. I HAD TWO NEAR CRASHES AND WHEN I WAS DRIVING IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN JULY 2011, WAS STUCK ON A HIGHWAY AND HAD TO GET A TOW BECAUSE THE PEDAL BROKE WHILE TRYING TO STOP THE CAR FROM ACCELERATING. I CALLED FORD IMMEDIATELY AFTER MY INCIDENT AND WAS PROMPTLY TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS FINE, THAT THEY HAD NO REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE AND THAT DRIVING MY CAR WAS SAFE. I DIDN'T EVEN THINK TO CONTACT THE NHTSA UNTIL I HEARD THE REPORT ON CNN. I HAVE ALSO DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD LOVED ONES DIE BECAUSE OF THIS. I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE ANOTHER CAR FOR FEAR THAT IF I DRIVE MY FORD, I'LL DIE. I CANNOT SELL THE CAR BECAUSE I DON'T WANT SOMEONE ELSE TO POSSIBLY DIE. PLEASE HELP. *TR
WHILE IN PARKING LOT, CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. HELD THE BRAKES TO KEEP CAR FROM MOVING AND PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, THE RPMS WHEN UP TO 7000, GAS PEDAL WAS NOT BEING TOUCHED. AFTER I GOT THE CAR STOPPED AND WHILE IN NEUTRAL, I QUICKLY PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL ONCE AND THE ENGINE CAME BACK DOWN TO IDLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AS WELL. I AM SURPRISED BY THE MANY REPORTS OF THIS ON THE FORD TAURUS THAT IT ISN'T A RECALL. THIS IS THE SAME TYPE OF ISSUE TOYOTA HAD. SUDDEN ACCELERATION. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THIS GETS RECALLED?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE TRAVELING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD SUDDENLY BEGUN TO ACCELERATE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL LOST ALL PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY GASKET AND CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ABNORMALLY. IN ORDER TO STOP THE ACCELERATION, THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE POLLUTION SENSOR WAS REPLACED. ONE WEEK LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE OXYGEN SENSOR AND WIRING WERE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 111,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
