I FIRST NOTICE THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD STOP WORKING AFTER THAT A LITTLE WHILE LATER I WOULD BE DRIVING ALONG AND THE CAR WOULD PICK UP SPEED ON ITS OWN I WOULD PRESS THE BRAKE BUT THAT WOULDN'T SLOW IT DOWN SO I HIT THE GAS PETAL AND FINALLY THE SPEED WOULD DROP. I FEEL SO UNSAFE WHAT IF THIS IS TO HAPPEN ON A RAINY OR ICY DAY I COULD HURT MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE WHAT CAN I DO THAT'S NOT GOING TO BE COSTLY? *TR
I OWN A 2005 FORD TAURUS SEL. IT'S BEEN A PIECE OF JUNK SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT.WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT,IT WAS BURNING OFF FRONT TIRES EVERY 2000 MILES,IT WAS ALIGNED BY THE DEALER TWICE,ENDED UP HAVING TO TAKE IT TO A FRIENDS TIRE SHOP,WE [I'M A MOTORCYCLE BUILER/WELDER..] ENDED UP CUTTING THE WELDS ON THE SHOCK MOUNT AND MOVED IT.THE GAS MILEAGE IS AWEFUL,BUT NOW,AFTER 96,000 MILES,THE TRANSMISSION STARTED ACTING UP.IT WAS CHANGED EVERY 30,000 MILES,ALWAYS LOOKED LIKE MUD.TWO WEEKS AFTER IT STARTED SLIPPING,MY WIFE WAS COMING HOME LATE FROM WORK ON A SECLUDED,DARK,REALLY BUSY HIGHWAY,OUT OF THE BLUE,THE TRANSMISSION JUST COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING,SHE HAD TO DRIVE IT INTO A DITCH,OR GET KILLED,LUCKILY,THE CAR WASN'T DAMAGED BADLY OTHERWISE. SHE SPENT 45 MINUTES STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN THE DARK UNTIL I GOT THERE WITH A WRECKER.I'VE LOOKED ONLINE,AND TALKED TO FRIENDS WHO OWN GARAGES,THESE CARS ARE SCRAP.NEARLY EVERY ONE THAT MAKES IT TO 100,000 MILES WILL EXPERIENCE CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE. NUMEROUS TIMES, WHEN THE FOOT WAS REMOVED THE ACCELERATOR, THE ENGINE DID NOT RETURN TO IDLE BUT CONTINUED AS IF YOUR FOOT WAS STILL ON THE ACCELERATOR. WOULD HAVE TO APPLY BRAKES AND GET OFF THE ROAD. EXTREMELY HARD TO STOP IF GOING VERY FAST. KILL THE ENGINE, RAISE THE HOOD AND BARELY TOUCH THROTTLE CONTROL WHERE THE ACCELERATOR CABLE IS ATTACHED AND IT WOULD SNAP BACK TO THE IDLE POSITION. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 7 OR 8 TIMES. 2005 FORD TAURUS HAD UNCOMMANDED ACCELERATION WITH STUCK THROTTLE. FOUND CRUISE CONTROL CABLE DISCONNECTED AND JAMMED AT THROTTLE BODY. ALSO FOUND STICKING THROTTLE BODY. REPLACED CABLE AND THROTTLE BODY. NO ASSISTANCE FROM FORD OR LOCAL DEALER. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING HOME FROM A CONCERT IN WASHINGTON DC AND I NOTICED THAT THE CAR SEEMED TO WANT TO GO BY ITSELF AND CONTINUED TO SPEED UP EVEN THOUGH I HAD TAKEN MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR. WE GOT INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP THE CAR. I PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I THEN PULLED OUT OF TRAFFIC AND DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME ON BACK ROADS TO AVOID THE HEAVY TRAFFIC. AGAIN THE CAR SEEMED TO SPEED UP ON ITS OWN AND I HAD TO HOLD THE BRAKE TO AVOID GOING TOO FAST. AT ONE POINT I PULLED INTO THE GAS STATION AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AGAIN AND WHEN I RESTARTED IT THE PROBLEM APPEARED TO HAVE GONE AWAY. THE NEXT MORNING WE LOOKED AT THE CAR AND FOUND THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS BROKEN AND CATCHING THE THROTTLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE RPMS WOULD RACE TO 4000. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000.
WHILE SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT I FELT THE CAR TRYING TO LUNGE FORWARD. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I SLOWLY RELEASED MY FOOT FROM THE BREAK THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AND MOVE ON ITS OWN WITHOUT ME STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL. I HAD DIFFICULTY STOPPING THE CAR COMPLETELY AND PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THE CAR STARTED REVVING UP AND BECOMING VERY LOUD. I PUT THE CAR BACK INTO DRIVE AND THE CAR DROVE ON ITS OWN. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY, BUT THE ACCELERATION SPEED WAS MORE AGGRESSIVE THIS TIME, I PULLED OVER INTO A EMPTY PARKING LOT I WAS TOO AFRAID TO BE BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE ALTHOUGH THE BRAKES WERE WORKING I HAD TO PRESS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO FLOOR TO GET THEM TO STOP THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY. WHAT'S EVEN WORSE IS NOW MY CAR HAS STARTED TO ACCELERATE IN REVERSE AS WELL. AFTER SEEING THE SAME COMPLAINT OVER AND OVER ON THIS SITE I DO NOT KNOW WHY THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN RECALL. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I FELT AFRAID FOR MY LIFE! AND BY THE WAY LAST WEEK I MADE MY FINAL CAR PAYMENT FOR THIS CAR AND JUST DAYS LATER THIS HAPPENED!
VEHICLE STARTED ACCELERATING AT VARIOUS TIMES, TAPPING THE ACCELERATOR SEEMED TO HELP. TOOK THE CAR TWICE TO THE SAME FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY CLEANED THE IDLE CONTROL MOTOR BECAUSE IT WAS DIRTY. FORD SAID IF IT ACTS UP AGAIN THE IDLE CONTROL WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER NON-FORD MECHANIC AND WITHIN (2) MINUTES HE HAD THE ANSWER. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS HANGING OPEN ON THE THROTTLE PLATE. I HAD HIM DISCONNECT THE CRUISE CONTROL, BELIEVE ME, I WAS VERY APPREHENSIVE ABOUT THIS. IN THE MEAN TIME I HAD THEM ORDER ANOTHER CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. IT TOOK ABOUT A WEEK TO ARRIVE, BUT I HAD NO SUDDEN ACCELERATIONS WHAT SO EVER. I DECIDED NOT TO HAVE THE NEW ONE PUT ON. IT IS NOW SEPTEMBER, AND I HAVE HAD NO SUDDEN ACCELERATIONS SINCE MID MAY. I WANTED TO BE CERTAIN THAT THIS WAS THE OBVIOUS ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM BEFORE I FILED A COMPLAINT. *TR
CAR ACCELERATES ON IT'S OWN FOR NO REASON AT ALL. WE HAVE HAD IT TO TWO SEPARATE MECHANICS, WHICH ONE WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT STOP FOR ABOUT A WEEK. NOW IT IS BACK DOING THE VERY SAME THING AND SO DANGEROUS WE CANNOT DRIVE IT. CAR ONLY HAS 60000 MILES AND SHOULD NOT BE REACTING IN SUCH A DANGEROUS MANNER. WHILE DRIVING DOWN AN INTERSTATE AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN MY 2005 FORD TAURUS SHUT OFF. ALL OF THE GAUGES WENT DEAD. THE CAR DID NOT STALL, BUT I SLOWLY STARTED DECELERATING THE CAR. FIVE SECONDS LATER, THE SYSTEM SUDDENLY RESTARTED LIKE NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED AND THEY STATED THAT IF THEY CAN'T REPRODUCE THE INCIDENT, THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. THE CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 102,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
TWO WEEKS AGO I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND THE RPMS STARTED TO REV-UP AND MY CAR SEEMED TO BE TRYING TO LURCH FORWARD. HOWEVER, I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON TWICE AND IT DID THE SAME THING. WHEN I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, THE CAR DROVE ITSELF AROUND THE CORNER. THE ONLY CONTROL I HAD WAS PUTTING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN. IT CONTINUED TO DRIVE ITSELF UNTIL I TURNED IT OFF. IT DID THIS 4 TIMES IN TOTAL. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED, I FELT THE GAS PEDAL "POP" UNDER MY FOOT AND THE CAR BEGAN TO RESPOND AGAIN. ON THE LAST TRIP THE CAR DROVE ME ALMOST 20 MILES OF ITS OWN VOLITION. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND ALTHOUGH I FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT ONLINE, FORD TOLD ME THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND I'D HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIRS OUT OF POCKET. THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED - - I COULD HAVE REAR-ENDED SOMEONE OR WORSE. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHENEVER THERE IS MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL, WATER LEAKS INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE UNDER THE DASH, SOAKING THE FLOOR AND THE BLOWER MOTOR WILL NOT WORK. WHILE DRIVING THE WINDSHIELD FOGS OVER AND I CANNOT GET THE BLOWER TO TURN ON, CAUSING VISIBILITY ISSUES WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD. THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF PEOPLE, THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND A RECALL ISSUED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR WHEN THE PEDAL SUDDENLY STUCK. I TRIED TO STOP THE CAR BUT IT WAS DIFFICULT, SO I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. MY THROTTLE WAS STUCK OPEN AT 4,000 RPMS. I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR TO IDLE NORMAL AFTER SLAMMING ON THE GAS PEDAL REPEATEDLY. I ASSUMED THE THROTTLE BODY WAS THE CAUSE OF MY PROBLEMS, SO I HAD MY MECHANIC CLEAN IT OUT FOR ME, BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY, AND THE ONLY WAY I HAVE FOUND STOPS THE ISSUE IS SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL AND SLAMMING ON THE GAS PEDAL. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED IT ACTS UP MORE WHEN IT IS HOT OUTSIDE. *JS
I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN CAR BEGAN ACCELERATING AND CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE AND REACHED SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 50MPH. I MANAGED BY APPLYING BRAKES CONTINUOUSLY TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL IN PARKING LOT. I PUT ENGINE IN NEUTRAL AND ENGINE CONTINUED AT HIGH RPM. I TURNED CAR OFF AND STARTED IT BACK UP SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE I TRIED PRESSING GAS PEDAL TO FLOOR SEVERAL TIMES. CAR THEN IDLED AT NORMAL IDLE SPEED. IT SEEMED TO BE OK AT THIS POINT BUT WHEN I BEGAN DRIVING AGAIN THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES. IF I PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL AND FLOORED GAS PEDAL IT RETURNED TO NORMAL RPM. I HAVE HAD THIS REOCCUR 6 OR 7 TIMES SINCE THEN AND PUTTING IN NEUTRAL, FLOORING GAS PEDAL RESOLVES PROBLEM. I DO NOT USE CRUISE CONTROL OFTEN BUT WHEN I TRIED TO USE IT THIS SUMMER IT NO LONGER WORKS.
WAS TRAVELING ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY AT 45 MPH. WHEN I TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL ON, ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN CAUSING ME TO ALMOST RUN A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. I HIT THE BRAKES HARD A COUPLE TIMES AND GOT IT STOPPED. *JS
I HAVE A 2005 FORD TAURUS THAT HAS RECENTLY (SINCE YESTERDAY) STARTED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED IT SLOWS DOWN SOME, BUT WILL NOT STOP COMPLETELY. I HAVE ADJUSTED THE THROTTLE, AND IT WOULD START UP JUST FINE AFTER THAT, BUT WOULD RESUME THE ISSUE SHORTLY THEREAFTER. I FEEL EXTREMELY UNSAFE. THE ONLY THING THAT HELPS EVEN THOUGH IT IS OF MINIMAL ASSISTANCE IS PRESSING DOWN THE GAS PEDAL AND RELEASING IT WHILE DRIVING. EVEN THEN SOMETIMES THE RPM'S WILL STAY BETWEEN 4-5,000. THE ONLY WAY TO SHUT IT OFF AND PARK SAFELY IS TO BRAKE TO THE FLOOR, PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL WHERE THE RPM'S GO OVER 4,000 AND SHUT OFF THE CAR. AFTER READING ALL OF THESE SIMILAR INSTANCES, I FEEL THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER IN 2011 FOR THE SAME FAILURE, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CONTACT WAS DEPRESSING BOTH THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS AT THE SAME TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO INSPECTED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS STICKING. THE MECHANIC SPRAYED A LUBRICANT ON THE THROTTLE AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS UNDER A DEFECT INVESTIGATION AND THERE WERE NO CURRENT RECALLS. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 60,000. UPDATED 05/11/12*LJ UPDATED 06/01/12
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN A COUNTRY BLACKTOP AT ABOUT APPROXIMATELY 58 MPH WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO MEET A CAR ON THIS NARROW ROAD AND PROCEEDED TO SLOW DOWN. BUT WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR THE SPEEDOMETER CONTINUED TO CLIMB SO I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE AND LET OFF THE BRAKE AND ONCE AGAIN IT CONTINUED TO CLIMB THIS TIME, I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND PUMPED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE ENGINE IDLED DOWN. I THEN PUT THE CAR BACK INTO DRIVE AND PROCEEDED DOWN THE ROAD AFTER A SHORT WAY IT REPEATED THE ACCELERATION AGAIN AS I APPROACHED A SHARP CURVE I AGAIN TOOK IT OUT OF GEAR. AFTER DRIVING HOME I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND FOUND THAT MY CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HAD DETACHED ITSELF AND WAS HUNG UP ON THE THROTTLE BODY HOLDING IT OPEN. I THEN TOOK IT TO MY FORD DEALER WHERE I ASK THEM TO UNHOOK AND ORDER ME A NEW ONE. I LATER HAD THE NEW ONE INSTALLED. JUST RECENTLY IN FEB. AFTER HAVING MY OIL CHANGED IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT IN THE RAIN AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 35 MPH I WAS ABLE ONCE AGAIN DRIVING HOME AND UNHOOKING THE CABLE. I ASKED MY FORD DEALER ABOUT A SERVICE BULLETIN AND THEY WERE UNAWARE. THE CABLE IS STILL UNHOOKED AND I WOULD LIKE TO USE MY CRUISE BUT WON'T UNTIL THEY FIND A FIX. MY FORD DEALER IS CARSON FORD HAMILTON ,ILL AND KNOW ABOUT MY TO INCIDENCE. *TR UPDATED 05/24/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED SHE WAS REAR ENDED AND PUSHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. HER VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT AND REAR AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE HER VEHICLE DELETED FROM THE LIST OF AFFECTED VEHICLES. UPDATED 05/25/12
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE VEHICLE THEN ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND THE ENGINE DISPLAYED AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN RPMS. THE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION UNTIL THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND THE PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN THE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DISLODGE THE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR INSPECTION WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE AND POSSIBLE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000. FORD TAURUS TRANSMISSION JUST STOPPED WHEN DRIVING, DEALER SAID $2500 TO FIX, I CHECKED ON LINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF SAME ISSUE. FORD NEED TO FIX THIS ON A RECALL BASIS.THANK GOD MY CAR WAS NOT ON HIGHWAY GOING FAST WITH MY 3 KIDS IN IT , THEN IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A RECALL ISSUE BUT A LAWSUIT ISSUE. FORD NEED TO LOOK AT THIS AND REFUND ALL CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE PAID OUT OF POCKET FOR THESE REPAIRS. *TR
MY DAUGHTER REPORTED THAT HER 2005 TAURUS EXCEL SEATED FOR NO REASON. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. THE LAST TIME THERE WAS A NEAR ACCIDENT BUT SHE MANAGED TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. VEHICLES RPM WENT TO 4000 AND SHE HAD TO PUSH HARD ON THE BRAKES UNTIL STOPPED. VEHICLES ON THE HIGHWAY WERE STOPPED SUDDENLY IN FRONT OF HER AT THE TIME. I WAS JUST ON A SITE AND FOUND MORE THAN 110 COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME THING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR A 17 YEAR OLD DRIVER. PLEASE HELP. *JS
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE THE ENGINE CONTINUE TO REV. WENT TO RAISOR FORD DEALER IN LAFAYETTE AND HAD TO HAVE A NEW THROTTLE BODY REPLACED WITH LINKAGES. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS UNTIL REPAIRED. *TR

ONCE, WHEN I WAS PARKING, THE CAR WAS DOING THIS AND WHEN I PLACED THE GEAR IN "P" THE RPM'S WHEN PAST 3 BEFORE I SHUT THE CAR OFF. THIS HAPPENED IN A 2005 FORD TAURUS SE SEDAN WITH THE 3.0L VULCAN V6 FLEX-FUEL ENGINE. CAR WAS JUST HITTING 85,000 WHEN THE PROBLEM APPEARED. IT TOOK AROUND 2 HOURS TO REPLACE EVERYTHING- INCLUDING LETTING THE BROKEN A/C COMPRESSOR OUT. I LATER LEARNED, FROM MY MECHANIC FRIEND, THAT TAURUS' HITTING AROUND 80K HAVE THIS SAME A/C COMPRESSOR FAILURE LIKE CLOCKWORK.
