TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH WHEN THE ACCELERATION PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN OPEN THROTTLE POSITION. THE CONTACT HAD TO ABRUPTLY STOMP ON THE PEDAL IN ORDER FOR IT TO RELEASE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE OR THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL CABLE FAILED AND CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE CABLES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 126,000. THE CONSUMER STATED SUDDEN ACCELERATION CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL, DUE TO THE STRAIN OF TRYING TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. UPDATED 08/22/12
2005 FORD TAURUS SE - SUDDEN TRANSMISSION FAILURE. 65,248 MILES ON CAR. TRAVELING 70MPH ON MAJOR HIGHWAY, PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE, ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED TO 7,000RPMS AND SLOWED FAST, MANAGED TO GET IT SIDE OF ROAD. HAD ONLY PARK AND NEUTRAL GEARS. NO WARNING LIGHT, NO UNUSUAL NOISE, NO PREVIOUS ISSUE WITH TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE. REQUIRED A NEW REBUILT TRANSMISSION, $3,000 EXPENSE. LUCKILY NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, NO ONE HURT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS WIFE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHICH RESULTED IN HER DEATH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE IN THE VEHICLE. THE POLICE REPORT STATED THAT THE DRIVER RAN A STOP SIGN AND WAS HIT ON THE DRIVER SIDE BY ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH CAUSED THE FATALITY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BEFORE THE INCIDENT, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAD OCCASIONALLY STUCK AND THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH A LOCAL DEALER WHO STATED THAT THEY HAD HEARD OF NO SUCH FAILURES WITH THE MODEL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 260,000. THE ACCELERATOR WOULD CONTINUE TO RACE AFTER I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE PEDAL. I HAVE TO PUMP THE PEDAL FOR IT TO STOP ACCELERATING. THE CRUISE ALSO WOULD STOP WORKING ABOUT THE SAME TIME. WHAT WAS HAPPENING WAS THE CRUISE CABLE WAS GETTING IN THE WAY OF THE THROTTLE AND MAKING IT STICK. I JUST HAD THIS REPAIRED AT A DEALERSHIP. *TR
2005 FORD TAURUS - WE HAVE BEGUN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH SURGING RPM'S/ACCELERATION, WHICH RECENTLY ALMOST CAUSED MY WIFE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. THE CONTACT THEN APPLIED THE BRAKES WITH EXTREME PRESSURE AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN. SHE THEN SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WHEN THE VEHICLE FINALLY STOPPED. THE RPMS INCREASED TO 5000. THE DEALER WAS INFORMED ABOUT THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ONE ADDITIONAL TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 72,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO TAP THE PEDAL UNTIL IT BECAME DISLODGED. THIS FAILURE RECURRED TWICE AND THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN INSPECTED FOR THE SAME FAILURE WITH LUBRICATION TO THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS AN OVERPOWERING GASOLINE FUEL ODOR EMITTING FORM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE SIXTH SPARK PLUG WAS STRIPPED AND A PORTION OF THE SPARK PLUG FRACTURED INTO THE CORE OR THE CYLINDER OF THE ENGINE, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNDER 100,000.

THE MECHANICS I HAVE SPOKE WITH ARE BLAMING ANYTHING FROM THE THROTTLE BODY TO A DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. I AM NOT DRIVING THE CAR DUE TO THE DANGEROUS CONDITION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING UPHILL AT 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND DID NOT STOP WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WHICH WAS FOLLOWED BY AN INCREASE IN THE ENGINE RPMS. THE ENGINE HAD TO BE SHUT OFF TO STOP THE FAILURE. AFTER WAITING A FEW MOMENTS, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME AND THEN TO A DEALER. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL EXPERIENCED A SHORTAGE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE DEALER TO DISCONNECT THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL AND SHE DID NOT PLAN ON REPLACING IT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. JUST PURCHASED A 2005 FORD TAURUS AND NOTICED IMMEDIATELY THAT THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING FASTER THAN OTHER CARS DO, POSSIBLY THE ENGINE? HOWEVER AFTER SEARCHING THE DATABASE AND FINDING THERE IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. WHY HAS THIS VEHICLE NOT BEEN RECALLED, AND WHY WAS I SOLD A VEHICLE WITH DEFECTS THAT AN AUTO DEALERSHIP SHOULD BE MORE AWARE OF BECAUSE THEY ARE MECHANICS? *TR
TORQUE CONVERTER ON 2005 FORD TAURUS BLEW UP. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A VERY BUSY ROAD DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WHEN MY CAR JUST STOPPED. IN ADDITION TO DELAYING TRAFFIC IT WAS A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION FOR MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN WHO WERE IN THE CAR WITH MY. THE MECHANIC WHO FIXED MY CAR SHOWED ME THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND THE METAL HAD TURNED BLUE FROM BEING HEATED TO AN EXTREME HEAT. HE ALSO SAID THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER BLEW UP SENDING METAL PIECES INTO MY TRANSMISSION. I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES AND I THINK IT IS TIME THAT FORD IS HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR AN OBVIOUSLY FAULTY PART. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS AS THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL NUMEROUS TIMES YET THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IMMEDIATELY, THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED FROM OVERDRIVE TO THE DRIVE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED FOR THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000.
AT AROUND 70,000 MILES NOTED THAT THE ENGINE RPMS WOULD GO UP WITHOUT ACCELERATION PERIODICALLY, AND THE CAR BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. TOOK IT IN, FOUND THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS DISCONNECTED AND AFTER REPLACEMENT THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. *TR
YOU WOULD ACCELERATE UP TO SPEED, THEN AFTER TAKING YOUR FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR KEPT AT THAT SPEED.THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON. WHILE DRIVING DECELERATING TO A STOPLIGHT, THE ENGINE WOULD REV UPTO 5K RPM. I WOULD HAVE TO JAM ON THE BRAKES AND PLACE THE CAR INTO PARK AND TURN OFF ENGINE. ANOTHER INCIDENT WAS TO STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL TO STOP THE REVVING. TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, COULDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL THE MECHANIC TOOK A TEST DRIVE AND IT HAPPENED TO HIM. HE CLAIMS THERE WAS CARBON IN THE MANIFOLD INTAKE AND CLEANED IT UP. ONLY HAPPEN ONCE SINCE THEN (LAST MONTH 2/2012). *TR

THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. THE CRUISE SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $600.00. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIR COST WAS $180. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 62,000. UPDATED 9/13/10 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING, THE ENGINE WENT INTO A HIGH ACCELERATION MODE AND LOCKED UP. SHE REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE CONSUMER STATED HE BANGED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHICH FINALLY BROKE LOOSE. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DETERMINED THE VEHICLE HAD A FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL CABLE THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $600.00. I HAVE BEEN IN THE AUTOMOBILE SERVICE INDUSTRY FOR THE PAST 40+ YEARS AS A TECHNICIAN, TECHNICIAN TRAINER, SERVICE MANAGER, AND SHOP OWNER. IN MY PRESENT CAPACITY I MANAGE A SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR A FRANCHISE WHICH SUPPLIES USED VEHICLES TO THE SUPREME CREDIT MARKET. THE NUMBER ONE SELLING VEHICLE FOR US IS THE 2000 - 2006 FORD TAURUS. IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS I HAVE HAD TWO COMPLAINTS OF SUDDEN VEHICLE ACCELERATION FOR NO APPARENT REASONS. AFTER TEST DRIVING THE VEHICLES AND DUPLICATING THE COMPLAINTS I FOUND THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE END WHICH CONNECTS TO THE THROTTLE LINKAGE BECOMES UNABLE TO REMAIN CONNECTED TO THE THROTTLE LEVER TAB ON THE THROTTLE BODY LINKAGE DUE TO WEAR OVER TIME. WHEN IT BECOMES DISCONNECTED IT WILL CATCH ON THE THROTTLE LINKAGE TAB DURING DECELERATION AT TIMES AND CAUSE THE IDLE SPEED TO STAY ELEVATED EVEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS NOT APPLIED, THE INCREASE IN RPM CAUSES INTAKE MANIFOLD VACUUM TO DECREASE WHICH DECREASES THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER ASSIST, THIS COUPLED WITH THE INCREASED RPM MAKES THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STOP. I AM AWARE OF ONE POSSIBLE OCCURRENCE WHICH MAY HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE IT WOULD BE IN THE INTEREST OF A MULTITUDE OF MOTORISTS TO LOOK INTO THIS POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD BECOME STUCK IN THE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO APPLY CONSTANT, HEAVY PRESSURE TO THE PEDAL BEFORE IT WOULD RELEASE. WHEN THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, THE ENGINE WOULD CONTINUE TO EXHIBIT AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS NOT PERFORMED, AND THE THROTTLE WAS CLEANED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN TWO WEEKS. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE, BUT WOULD PROVIDE NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
2005 FORD TAURUS 3.0, VULCAN OHV FLEX-FUEL ENGINE. 24,000 MILES, DRIVER DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE ANYMORE. HOOD MISALIGNED ITSELF. INTERIOR PIECES FALLING OFF. WHEN STARTING, STARTER WOULD SPIN FREE OF THE FLYWHEEL AND NOT START. (STILL DOES THIS, BUT WILL START ON THE 2ND TRY USUALLY) BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS ERRATIC, LIGHT BRAKING PRODUCES A FLASHING EFFECT LIKE I'M HITTING THE BRAKES FRANTICALLY. MAKES ME LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT DRIVER.(HAVE SEEN THIS ON OTHER RECENT MID-2000'S FORDS BEFORE. THOUGHT THEY WERE IDIOT DRIVERS! CANNOT USE E-85 IN ANY CHILLY WEATHER BELOW 50 DEGREES OR IT IS A VERY LONG START AND IT'LL IDLE AT 2,500 UNTIL WARM. ROUTINELY GETS 17 MPG WHILE BEING DRIVEN VERY EASY. 30,000 MILES, FLEX-PIPE EXHAUST BROKE ON HIGHWAY, ALMOST RIPPED OFF WHOLE EXHAUST. WASN'T EVEN WORN LOOKING, JUST BROKE IN HALF! BRAKE ROTORS WARPED QUICKLY, NEVER DID ANY HARD STOPS.CONTINENTAL TIRES WERE BADLY CRACKED AND UNSAFE, HAD NEVER BEEN RUN LOW OR ABUSED. BRAKE PEDAL SHAKES UP AND DOWN PERIODICALLY WITH NO REASON FOUND, FEELS LIKE ABS BUT CAR HAS NO ABS. 40,000 MILES, COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHILE HIGHWAY CRUISING. SEAT ADJUSTMENT WILL NOT BUDGE, WIFE CANNOT DRIVE CAR AS SEAT IS SET FOR ME. 45,000 MILES, AC COMPRESSOR BEARING FAILURE REQUIRING COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT. POWER WINDOW CONTROLS DO NOT WORK. I AM WRITING YOU TO NOTIFY YOU OF THE PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD WITH MY 2005 FORD TAURUS (VIN # [XXX]). THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 66,000 MILES ON IT. I TOOK MY CAR FOR SERVICE AND THE TECHNICIAN NOTIFIED ME THAT THE TIMING GEAR GASKET WAS LEAKING COOLANT. THE TECHNICIAN KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THAT IT IS COMMON FOR FORD ENGINES TO START LEAKING AT THIS SPOT AROUND 60,000 MILES. THE DEALER WANTS APPROXIMATELY $700.00 TO FIX THE LEAK. ANOTHER PROBLEM I HAD WITH THE CAR HAPPENED LAST WINTER WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD AND THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON IT. A TUNE UP WAS PERFORMED AT A COST TO ME OF $416.91. I WAS TOLD THAT IF THE TUNE UP DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM THEN THE COMPUTER WOULD NEED TO BE RE-FLASHED AT THE COST OF $200.00. I PREVIOUSLY SENT FORD MOTOR COMPANY AN E-MAIL ABOUT THIS BUT NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE. I DON'T FEEL IT IS RIGHT FOR A VEHICLE TO HAVE THESE SORTS OF PROBLEMS AT ONLY 66,000 MILES AND I BELIEVE THAT THE GASKET IS A POOR DESIGN. I PURCHASED 4 UNIROYAL LONG TOURING P215/60R16 TIRES FROM WAL-MART. AT 5,000 MILES I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED AT WAL-MART. AFTER ROTATING THE TIRES, THE NEXT DAY THERE WAS A TREMENDOUS VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING. WAL-MART SAYS THERE ARE FLAT SPOTS IN THE TIRE TREAD ON ALL FOUR TIRES AND THIS WAS CAUSED BY ALIGNMENT AND SUSPENSION. THERE WAS CURRENTLY AN OPEN INVESTIGATION ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE12005 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CABLES). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I HAVE A 2005 FORD TAURUS WITH 85,000 MILES. WITHIN THE LAST WEEK THE THROTTLE WOULD STICK WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION CAUSING AN INCREASE IN SPEED WITHOUT APPLYING ANY PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR. 2005 FORD TAURUS SEDAN - REAR TRUCK WILL RELEASE WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. WE BOUGHT THE USED VEHICLE IN THE SUMMER OF 2009, ON AT LEAST SIX OCCASIONS, THE REAR TRUCK LID OPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN INTERNAL RELEASE BUTTON, A REMOTE RELEASE BUTTON AND AN INTERNAL SAFETY RELEASE STRING. ON EACH OCCASION NEITHER BUTTON WERE ACTIVATED. NO CLICKING SOUND WAS HEARD ON EACH OCCASION. THE FORD DEALERSHIP HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY REPORTS OF THIS. RIGHT FRONT (PASSENGER) STRUT SYSTEM - ON COMPLETION OF AN ALIGNMENT OF FORD TAURUS, THE RIGHT FRONT (PASSENGER) STRUT SYSTEM WAS DEEMED BROKEN. ALL OTHER SUSPENSION SYSTEMS WERE ALIGNED WITHIN THE RECOMMENDED SAFETY REQUIREMENTS, THE RIGHT FRONT STRUT SYSTEM COULD ONLY BE ALIGNED JUST OUTSIDE OF THE MAXIMUM SAFETY REQUIREMENTS, AND NO FURTHER ADJUSTMENT CAN BE MADE WITHOUT REPLACEMENT. *TR
