I WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION ON THE KENAI SPUR HWY. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
POWER TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WITH MY 2005 FORD TAURUS, AND MY AIR CONDITIONING UNIT WHICH HAS NOT WORKED SINCE MARCH OF 2008. I CONTRACTED FORD MAIN OFFICE IN DEARBORN MI. ABOUT THE PROBLEM WITH NO EFFORT TO HELP. AT THE TIME OF THE INITIAL PROBLEM I HAD 68,000 MILES ON THE CAR WHICH I BOUGHT FROM A DEALERSHIP IN MARCH OF 2008. I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD AND WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CAR FROM THEM AGAIN. I HAVE SPENT OVER 2000.00 ON POWERTRANS PROBLEMS WHICH STARTED IN JULY OF 2008. MY CAR STAYED IN THE POWERTRANS SHOP FROM JULY-DEC OF 2008 AND BECAUSE I HAD NO MORE MONEY TO INVEST IN THIS CAR I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE MY AIR CONDITIONING SINCE OWNING THE CAR. I HATE SUMMER DRIVING FOR THAT REASON. PLEASE REVIEW AND NOTE MY COMPLAINT. IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO TO GET MY AIR CONDITIONED FIXED PLEASE LET ME KNOW. *TR
IT WAS RAINING... I HAD THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON. PARKED AND WENT TO TURN OFF WIPERS. WOULD NOT TURN OFF, AND BEGAN TO SMOKE. I REMOVED FUSE. REPLACED FUSE... BEGAN TO SMOKE AGAIN. WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR BLOWN. NOW I HAVE NOTICED THAT CAR IS HAVING DIFFICULTY SHIFTING. TODAY I HAD A DIAGNOSIS DONE, TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS CONSTANTLY FLASH. IN ADDITION, THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER WORK INTERMITTENTLY, AND THE VEHICLE STARTS INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND THEY STATED THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHENEVER THE CONTACT ATTEMPTS TO USE THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER, SHE CAN HEAR THE FUSES POPPING UNDER THE DASHBOARD OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCE IN THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61,405 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT PLUGGED AN AIR PUMP INTO THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER OF THE VEHICLE AND THE WIRING UNDERNEATH THE DASHBOARD CAUGHT FIRE. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED, THE FIRE HAD EXTINGUISHED ITSELF. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER; THEREFORE, HE DOES NOT KNOW THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. CURRENTLY, THE ENGINE DOES NOT START. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 43,000.
THE ACCELERATOR ON MY 2005 FORD TAURUS SE GETS STUCK, CAUSING THE CAR TO ACCELERATE AND/OR TO CONTINUE DRIVING WITHOUT THE DRIVER TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. IT HAS BEEN FIXED FOUR TIMES AND EACH TIME THE REPAIR ONLY LASTS A FEW WEEKS TO A COUPLE MONTHS BEFORE IT OCCURS AGAIN. IT WAS REPAIRED TWICE BY A LOCAL GARAGE, FIRST BY LUBRICATING THE THROTTLE CABLE THEN THE CABLE WAS REPLACED. WE THEN TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY REPLACED AND CLEANED THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY AND ULTIMATELY DISCONNECTED A CRUISE CONTROL CABLE, THINKING THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS MALFUNCTIONING. THIS ISSUE HAS CONTINUED AND IS CLEARLY UNSAFE. INCIDENT DATE IS ONGOING FOR THE LAST YEAR. *TR
ON 2/10/07 THE LOCAL TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE TEENS. I ENTERED MY 2005 FORD TAURUS WITHOUT INCIDENT, PUT ON MY SAFETY BELT, STARTED IT AND BEGAN TO DRIVE. UPON BEGINNING A RIGHT TURN MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR FLEW OPEN - THE LATCHING MECHANISM HAD FROZEN OPEN. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR DAMAGE TO ANY VEHICLES, BUT IT COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN OTHERWISE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A COMMON FORD PROBLEM BECAUSE THE VERY SAME PROBLEM PLAGUED A 1996 WINDSTAR I USED TO OWN. *TR
I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION OF MY TAURUS LESS THAN ONE MONTH AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AND THE TRANS FLUSHED AT A DEALERSHIP AS PART OF MY LEASE-END PURCHASE OPTION (I LEASED THE CAR FOR 3 YEARS PRIOR TO PURCHASING IT). THE CAR WAS PAST THE WARRANTY AT 64,500 MILES AND I DID NOT PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. AFTER RUNNING THEIR DIAGNOSTIC TEST, I WAS TOLD THAT SOMETHING HAD FAILED IN THE TRANSMISSION BUT THEY WERE NOT SURE WHAT FAILED. THEY OFFERED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BY BREAKING DOWN THE TRANS AT A MINIMUM OF 10 HOURS LABOR AT $88.00 AN HOUR. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR SOME ASSISTANCE AND WAS DENIED BECAUSE THEY HAD NO RECORD OF MY CAR EVER BEING REPAIRED AT ANY DEALERSHIP DURING THE LIFE OF MY LEASE. I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE'S OPERATION PRIOR TO THE TRANSMISSION BEING FLUSHED, SO THERE WAS NO REASON TO TAKE IT IN FOR REPAIRS. I HAD MY OIL CHANGED EVERY 3000 TO 5000 MILES AND ALL FLUIDS CHECKED ON A REGULAR BASIS (NOT AT THE DEALERSHIP). I TOOK MY CAR TO A LICENSED TRANSMISSION SHOP AND HAD THE TRANS REBUILT FOR $1,200.00 THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THE FAILED PART WAS A BOOST VALVE IN THE VALVE BODY. THEY REBUILT THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND INSTALLED A NEW OVERHAUL KIT AND THE BOOST VALVE. EIGHT DAYS AFTER PICKING UP MY CAR, I HAD TO RETURN TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP BECAUSE THE CAR WAS HARD TO START, THE CHECK TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON CONTINUOUSLY AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THESE PROBLEMS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TRANS BUT WAS THE MLPS (MANUAL LEVER POSITION SENSOR) WHICH I HAD THEM REPLACE AT A COST OF $75.00. I WAS TOLD BY THE TECHNICIAN THAT THIS SENSOR HAD GONE BAD AND CAUSED MY INITIAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THIS WAS A SMALL, PLASTIC PART THAT THE DEALERSHIP MISSED SOMEHOW DURING THEIR SO-CALLED INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
DRIVERS DOOR COLLISION, VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH SIDE AIR BAGS BUT DID NOT DEPLOY. HAD BAGS DEPLOYED GLASS INJURY WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE ISSUE OCCURRED VERY FREQUENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AND IDLE, BUT NOT COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION MOST LIKELY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 142,314 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
AFTER IT RAINS, THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD IS SOAKED. THERE IS ALSO RUST ON THE METAL PARTS IN THE GLOVE BOX AS WELL AS DRIP STAINS. I HAVE REPORTED THIS SEVERAL TIMES TO THE DEALER SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND WAS TOLD IT IS JUST MOISTURE CAUSING THE RUST (SUCH A LIE). THEY SAID THE SMELL IN THE VENTS WAS CAUSED BY A SMALL BUILD UP OF WATER IN THE AIR VENT RESERVOIR. I HAVE ONLY 17,000 MILES ON MY 2005 TAURUS (WHICH I PURCHASED IN SEPTEMBER, 2006 WITH ONLY 247 MILES ON IT) BUT THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED THIS MONTH. I DO HAVE A 6 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND WAS TREATED VERY RUDELY BY THE SERVICE MANAGER. HE SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $100.00 TO "INVESTIGATE" THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT IS MOST LIKELY NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE OCCURRING IN MANY SABLE AND TAURUS CARS YET FORD HAS NOT RECALLED THIS PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM IN THESE FORD VEHICLES AND FORD SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AND FIX IT AT THEIR COST. HOW QUICK THEY ARE TO TAKE MY MONEY TO BUY THE CAR AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY YET THEY WILL NOT FIX NOR ACKNOWLEDGE PUBLICLY THIS PROBLEM (WHICH THEY CREATED). PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND TELL FORD TO DO A RECALL. *TR
I WAS ON VACATION DRIVING UP THE COAST OF CALIFORNIA AND I NOTICED IT WAS BECOMING INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO BRAKE MY VEHICLE AND MY TACHOMETER WOULD NOT PREDICTABLY FALL AS I LET OFF THE GAS. IT WAS SUBTLE AT FIRST BUT THEN BECAME MORE PRONOUNCED SO I STARTED SHIFTING THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL TO SEE IF IT WAS THE ENGINE OR SOMETHING ELSE. AFTER PUTTING IT INTO NEUTRAL I NOTICED THE CAR WOULD NOT GOES LESS THAN 2000 RPM ON THE TACHOMETER. THEN IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING INDEPENDENTLY OF MY INPUT THROUGH THE GAS. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND COASTED IN NEUTRAL, PARKED AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. AS I HAVE SOME AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC EXPERIENCE, I FIGURED SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE THROTTLE LINKAGE OR SOMETHING WAS STUCK IN THE THROTTLE PLATE. ON INSPECTION, I NOTICED THE CRUISE CONTROL LINKAGE AND SLID OFF. I THEN WENT TO RADIOSHACK AND BOUGHT SOME SMALL ZIP TIES AND ZIP TIED THE LINKAGE IN PLACE. IT IS TO THIS DAY HELD IN PLACE WITH ZIP TIES AND I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE (108,000 MILES CURRENTLY). I SAW THAT THE NHTSA WAS INVESTIGATING THESE VEHICLES FOR THE SAME COMPLAINTS AND THOUGHT I'D REPORT MY INCIDENT IN HOPES OF HELPING OTHERS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT NOTICED WATER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD. THE DEALER STATED THAT WATER WAS LEAKING FROM THE AIR INTAKE HEATER BOX AND THE WEATHER STRIPPING COWL PANEL FAILED. THE COWL PANEL WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,917 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,017.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHEN IT RAINED, WATER WOULD LEAK THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOOR ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE LEAK WAS RELATED TO THE CABIN AIR FILTER. THE TECHNICIAN INSTALLED A RAIN HAT AND COVER TO CORRECT THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,800.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE VEHICLE HAS CONTINENTAL TOURING CONTACT AS, SIZE P215/60R16 TIRES. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE. THE DEALER STATED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE WORN. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE IN EACH TIRE WAS LOW BY ONE POUND. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 22,000. UPDATED 02/01/08. *LJ
I WAS DRIVING INTOWN AND TRIED TO SLOW DOWN AS I WAS APPROACHING A RAILROAD TRACK AND MY CAR JUST SPEEDED UP ACCELERATION AS I WAS TRYING TO BRAKE. I HAD TO FIGHT TO HOLD THE CAR BACK. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ACCIDENTS BUT FELT THAT WHAT IF....SOMETHING DID HAPPEN WHEN I AM TRYING TO STOP AND THE CAR RACES LIKE THAT AND I DO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE HAD TRANSMISSION REPLACED BACK AT 78,500 MILES WHEN MY CAR WAS TOTALLY OUT OF WARRANTY AT 75,000 AND SINCE THEN I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THIS SAME SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM OTHER THAN FOR A FEW MINOR SPURTS IN THE LAST 6,000 MILES. I NOW HAVE 103,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. IT HAS BEEN A VERY SCARY THING FOR THIS SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM JUST TO POP UP OUT OF THE CLEAR BLUE. IT IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 FORD TAURUS WHICH IS EQUIPPED WITH A "PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF" FEATURE. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL, THE CAR IS SUPPOSED TO DETERMINE IF A CHILD WEIGHS ENOUGH FOR THE AIRBAG TO BE DEPLOYED AND IF NOT THE AIRBAG IS SUPPOSED TO BE DISABLED AND A LIGHT NEAR THE HEAT/AIR CONTROLS WILL LIGHT UP STATING "PASS AIRBAG OFF." THIS FEATURE WAS ONE OF THE DECIDING FACTORS WHEN WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. RECENTLY I HAD AN ACCIDENT WHEN MY VEHICLE LEFT THE ROAD STRIKING A UTILITY POLE. THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED WITH MY BARELY 60 POUND DAUGHTER IN THE FRONT SEAT. WE ALL KNOW THAT AIRBAGS ARE DANGEROUS, HOWEVER MANY PARENTS DEPEND ON THIS SPECIAL FEATURE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF THE AIRBAG WHEN THEIR SMALL CHILD OR CARSEAT IS IN THE FRONT.
REPLACED BATTERY IN 2005 FORD TAURUS. PRIOR TO THIS THE AUTOMOBILE RAN WITHOUT PROBLEMS. AFTER HAVING THE BATTERY REPLACED, THE CAR STALLED IN TRAFFIC WITHOUT WARNING. THE CAR SHIFTED VERY ERRATICALLY. IT STALLED ON ME AT 45 MPH. VERY SCARY. *JB
ONGOING PROBLEM - FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT REGISTER AS TANK BEING FULL WHEN IT IS. CAR PURCHASED USED, BUT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. WILL TRY TO HAVE FORD COVER REPAIR. *TR
IT SEEMS LIKE AFTER HEAVY RAIN WATER COLLECTS SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE DASH AND RUNS DOWN INTO THE FRONT PASSENGER FLOORBOARD OF THE CAR. IT COLLECTS SEVERAL INCHES OF WATER THAT SITS IN THE FLOORBOARD AND I HAVE TO SOAK IT UP WITH A LOT OF TOWELS. I KEEP A GARBAGE BAG IN THE FLOORBOARD TO KEEP FROM RUINING MY CARPET WHICH ALREADY SMELLS REAL BAD AS A RESULT OF THIS ISSUE. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VERY PROBLEM ON OTHER FORD TAURUS' GOING BACK TO AT LEAST 2001 MODELS. HAS THERE BEEN A RECALL? I READ IN THE COMPLAINTS THAT IT CAUSED THEIR BLOWER MOTOR TO NEED TO BE REPLACED. I WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS PROBLEM TAKEN CARE OF ASAP BUT FEEL THAT SINCE THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE FORD TAURUS THEN FORD SHOULD RECALL IT AND THEY SHOULD REPAIR IT AT NO COST. THEY SHOULD ALSO BE REQUIRED TO LOOK AT THE BLOWER MOTOR AND ANYTHING ELSE IT COULD HAVE EFFECTED AND REPLACE IF NEEDED. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO REQUEST THEY CLEAN MY CARPET AND GET THE BAD SMELL OUT OF IT. I WAS TOLD TO REFER TO A RELATED RECALL UNDER 03V08700 AND COMPLAINT #10184014. THANKS! *TR
IN JUNE OF 2007, I WAS DRIVING HOME AND MY CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE BY ITSELF, I REACHED SPEEDS IN EXCESS TO 80 MPH IN A 35 MPH ZONE. I WAS ABLE TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT BUT NOT WITHOUT MY VEHICLE'S ENGINE REVVING HIGHER AND HIGHER. I PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL SO THAT ONCE THE LIGHT CHANGED GREEN, I WOULD NOT LUNGE IN TO THE INTERSECTION. UPON GETTING HOME, MY HUSBAND DISCOVERED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HAD BECOME DISCONNECTED AND SECURED IT BACK ON, OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN. IN NO WAY WAS I PRESSING THE WRONG PEDAL, WE HAVE SINCE CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BY SECURING THE CABLE WITH A ZIP TIE. *TR
MY 2005 TAURUS KEPT OVER HEATING AND COULDN'T FIND A LEAK ANY WHERE. I KEPT FILLING IT WITH WATER AND ALWAYS KEPT AN EYE ON IT. WHEN THE HEAD GASKET FINALLY FAILED MY EXTENDED WARRANTY REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE WORK THAT NEEDED TO BE DONE. CNA IS THE WARRANTY COMPANY. THEY SAY IT IS MY FAULT BECAUSE I USED THE WRONG FLUIDS (WHICH WAS WATER) IN THE RADIATOR AND I USED STOP LEAK (WHICH I DID NOT AND NEVER WOULD USE). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOOSE POWER. HE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER OF AN INTERSECTION, AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY, AND A MECHANIC STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION MOTOR MOUNTS WERE NEVER PROPERLY BOLTED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. PRIOR THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY LURCH FORWARD. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, BUT WAS NOT PROVIDED WITH ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WILL ONLY START AFTER 4-5 ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE ALSO STALLS AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT AND SPEED. THE MOST RECENT FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, BUT THE VEHICLE CAN STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP AS WELL. ONCE THE VEHICLE STALLS, HE PLACES IT IN NEUTRAL AND IT RESTARTS IMMEDIATELY. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE CAN STALL ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 53,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
I HAVE A 2005 FORD TAURUS. I AM GETTING WATER DRIPPING ONTO THE PASSENGER FLOOR. IT IS DRIPPING THRU THE BLOWER MOTOR. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM IN THE TAURUS. I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM WITH A RECALL OR UNDER WARRANTY.*JB
I PURCHASED A 2005 FORD TAURUS USED IN DECEMBER 2006. ON APRIL 10, 2007 MY TRANSMISSION PUMP WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 44,600 MILES. THE MECHANIC THAT REPAIRED MY VEHICLE STATED THAT HE HAS REPAIRED SEVERAL TRANSMISSION AND TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS IN THIS PARTICULAR YEAR MODEL. [XXX]. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD SUFFERED FROM AN INTERMITTENT UNINTENDED ACCELERATION FAILURE FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS. TL*- WHILE DRIVING THE 2005 FORD TAURUS AT 20-25 MPH IN ICY CONDITIONS THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE INTO A WALL ATTEMPTING TO MISS STRIKING A SECOND VEHICLE WHO HAD BRAKED SUDDENLY. AFTER THE VEHICLE STRUCK THE WALL IT CONTINUED TO SLIDE OUT OF CONTROL AND STRUCK A THIRD VEHICLE HEAD ON ABOUT 20 YARDS AWAY, WHICH WAS STATIONARY BECAUSE IT WAS INVOLVED IN ANOTHER CRASH. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT, HE WAS NOT SURE IF THE PRETENSIONER DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED SEVERE FRONT END DAMAGE AND WAS NOT OPERATIONAL. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH BRUISING. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES AND WILL RECEIVE THE POLICE REPORT. I HAVE ISSUES WITH THIS CAR WHEN THE TEMPERATURE FALLS BETWEEN 20 AND 35 DEGREES WITH A COATING OF SLUSH OR SNOW FROM 1/4 OF AN INCH UP TO 5 INCHES. THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE TRAVELING AT 40 TO 65 MPH AND USUALLY ON A STRAIGHT AWAY SUCH AS THE THRUWAY. SOMETIMES WHEN THIS CAR HAS ISSUES I GET A THUMP FROM THE REAR AXLE AND THE VEHICLE SHIFTS VERY HARD BETWEEN 3RD AND 4TH GEAR. IT'S AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.. IN THESE WEATHER CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE WILL BUCK OR SURGE AND FEELS LIKE THE MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS GOING TO QUIT FUNCTIONING. *JB

FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE UNTIL CURRENT THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE FOLD DEALERSHIP IN REGARDS TO A NOISE RADIATING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT DASH AREA. 8/4/06 MILEAGE 6,958. ACTION TAKEN: SERVICE ATTEMPTED TO FIX NOISE IN DASHBOARD BY PLACING A PIECE OF FOAM BETWEEN THE DASHBOARD AND WINDSHIELD. 8/8/06 MILEAGE 7,001. IT WAS 8/8/06. VEHICLE TAKEN IN FOR NOISE IN RIGHT SIDE OF DASHBOARD. FOAM IS SHOWING AND THIS WAS AT LEAST MY FOURTH TRIP IN FOR THIS PROBLEM. ACTION TAKEN: REPLACED RIGHT A TRIM, CHECKED PILLAR WELD. WINDSHIELD STRESS CRACK. REMOVED AIR BAG. INSPECTED AND SENT TO BODY SHOP FOR WELD WORK. 8/30/06 ACTION TAKEN: REMOVED UPPER DASH AND GARNISH TRIM, REPAIRED WELD BROKEN. 9/1/06 RETURNED TO LANDERS BODY SHOP TO PICK UP VEHICLE. THIS SAME DAY, AT 3:30 PM WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WAS WARMER OUTSIDE WHEN I LEFT MY OFFICE THE NOISE WAS STILL THERE. I DROVE DOWN TO LANDERS AUTO BODY AND GARY PATTERSON AND A WOMAN NAMED KAREN BOTH WENT FOR TEST DRIVES WITH ME. NEITHER SAID THEY COULD HEAR THE NOISE, EVEN THOUGH I COULD. THEY STATED ALL THEY COULD HEAR WAS ROAD NOISE. I MENTIONED THAT JOEY IN THE SERVICE DEPT. HAD HEARD THE NOISE ON PREVIOUS VISITS. THEY SENT ME OVER TO SERVICE AND JOEY WENT FOR A TEST DRIVE WITH ME AND JOEY DID HEAR THE NOISE. 9/12/06 - MET WITH FORD ZONE REPRESENTATIVE AND TOOK CAR FOR TEST DRIVE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM. WAS TOLD THAT THE A PILLAR HAS "NO SAFETY IMPACT" WHEN I EXPRESSED I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE WELDING THAT HAD TO BE DONE ON MY VEHICLE. THE WINDSHIELD HAD STRESS FRACTURES IN IT AND THEY WELDED AT LEAST THREE DIFFERENT LOCATIONS. I HAVE AN OPEN CASE WITH FORD IN REGARDS TO THE REPAIRS. MY INQUIRE IS ABOUT ANY SAFETY ISSUES THAT COULD BE INVOLVED WITH THE A PILLAR NOT BEING CORRECTLY WELDED. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED AND AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM FORD. *JB
PURCHASED A 2005 TAURUS IN DECEMBER 2004. AT 1000 MILES OVER THE 36000 MILE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. RETURNED CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TREATED VERY POORLY. TOLD DIFFERENT INFORMATION ON REPAIR COST, BUT FORD WILL NOT FIX THE CAR WITHOUT US PAYING A HUGE PORTION OF THE 2000.00 REPAIR. *JB
THE TRANSMISSION STARTING SLIPPING AROUND 38500 MILES. IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED 3 TIMES. HOPEFULLY IT IS FIXED AT THIS POINT. I WAS ALMOST HIT TWICE BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED FROM 50 MPH TO 25 MPH IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME HAD TO SLAM ON BRAKES AND JUMP LANES TO KEEP FROM HITTING ME. *NM

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. THE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY AND THE VEHICLE SPEED ALSO BEGAN TO INCREASE. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE BRAIN OF THE VEHICLE HAD MALFUNCTIONED WHICH WAS REPLACED. SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, IT BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AGAIN; HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED OR DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE HE WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE IT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,295. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70MPH ON THE INTERSTATE THE VEHICLE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL. UPON INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE CAMPER TOE ON THE AXEL WAS BENT. AFTER THE DEALER REPLACED THE AXEL BAR, THE PROBLEM RETURNED LESS THAN A WEEK LATER. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE REOCCURRENCE.

THE POLICE REPORTED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE12005 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CABLES) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.

THE BACK DEFROSTER SYSTEM WAS IN USE WHEN THE AFTERMARKET MIRROR CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE ATTACHED TO THE WINDOW. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE BY PULLING THE MIRROR OFF THE WINDOW. THE INSURANCE COMPANY INVESTIGATED THE VEHICLE AND DEEMED IT TOTALED IN A WRITTEN REPORT.
