STEERING MAKES A GROANING OR RUBBING TYPE OF NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE ANY IMPACT ON PERFORMANCE OF THE STEERING BUT IS A GOD-AWFUL NOISE AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS!!!*AK THANKS!!
1999 FORD WINDSTAR. ONLY 60,000 MILES, RACK AND PINION IS LEAKING POWER STEERING FLUID ON BOTH SIDES. VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX, AND SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING WITH SO FEW MILES ON IT. VEHICLE BECOMES VERY HARD TO STEER, WHEN SITTING AT A STORE AND YOU COME OUT, IT IS HARD TO STEER TO GET IT HOME. *LA
I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE MAY 2003. I WAS HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WOULDN'T ACCELERATE PAST 40 KM'S THEN WOULD REV REALLY HIGH THEN KICK INTO GEAR. I FOUND OUT FROM ANOTHER DEALERSHIP THAT THE VEHICLE HAS HAD A TRANSMISSION PUT IN DEC'02 AT 68,000KMS THEN ANOTHER WENT IN JAN'03 WITH 974 KM'S ON THAT ONE & FOUND OUT TODAY I NEED A NEW ONE. I AM FIGHTING WITH THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD ME THIS VEHICLE THAT I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR IT. THAT THEY OBVIOUSLY KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH IT WHEN THEY SOLD IT TO ME. STILL WAITING TO SEE WHO'S GOING TO PAY FOR IT. BEEN WAITING FOR TUESDAY WILL BE A WEEK. DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM WAS TOTEM FORD MERCURY.
TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WITH NO WARNING. INTERNAL FAILURE OF COMPONENTS.
WE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION ON OUR 99 WINDSTAR 4 WEEKS AGO...TWO DAYS AGO THE POWER STEERING STARTED GRINDING AND WE BROUGHT IT IN FOR REPAIRS...REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP WITHIN 30 MILES OF THE DEALER THE NOISE IN THE POWER STEERING CAME BACK AND AFTER PAYING $800.00 FOR THE POWER STEERING PUMP THEY WANT TO NOW CHARGE US $600.00 TO REPLACE THE RACK...IN THE LAST 4 WEEKS THE REPAIRS ON THE WINDSTAR HAVE BEEN OVER $4000.00... THIS ON A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 70,000 MILES...I HAVE PAGES OF WINDSTAR OWNER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME NATURE...THE TRANSMISSION AND THE POWER STEERING ON THE WINDSTAR IS FAULTY AND I HOPE FORD LISTENS...THIS WILL BE THE LAST FORD WE PURCHASE! *LA
WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDETERMINED SPEED PASSENGER'S SLIDING DOOR OPENED UP WITHOUT WARNING. *AK
THE CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT AN ALIGNMENT PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE LEFT AND MADE A TICKING NOISE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS CONSTANTLY IN THE REPAIR SHOP BUT THE MECHANIC ARE WAS UNABLE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK ALSO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. *JB
WAS DRIVING 40 MPH, THE RIGHT SIDE SLIDING DOOR CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE DRIVER MANAGED TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF ROAD AND GOT OUT THE OF VEHICLE. ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS PASSING BY AND STOPPED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE . THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE SLIDING DOORS. *AK THE FIRE DEPT BELIEVED THE DOOR LOCK MOTOR CAUSED THE FIRE. *JB *NM
STEERING RACK FAILURE ON 1999 FORD WINSTAR (INTERNAL SEAL FAILURE - 48,182 MILES).*AK
I HAVE A 1999 WINDSTAR, WITH ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THAT ARE UNRESOLVED AFTER 3 WEEKS IN TWO DIFFERENT GARAGES. THE NUMBER 10 FUSE KEEPS BLOWING. SO I HAVE NO HEAT, OR AIR, WILL NOT OPEN BACK DOORS AND A NUMBER OF OTHER THINGS. IT IS WINTER AND I CAN'T DRIVE IT WITHOUT HEAT. AND WILL NOT BE FUN IN THE SUMMER WITH NO AIR. THE AIR WON'T WORK WITH THE FUSE BLOWN. IT BLOWS, EVEN WHEN ALL OF THE THINGS, LISTED IN THE BOOK ARE DISCONNECTED. IT STILL BLOWS.*AK
ONE DAY EVERYTHING WORKED FINE IN THE CAR, NEXT DAY,THE CAR WON'T SHIFT PROPERLY IN ALL GEARS AND SHUDDERS WHILE AT A STOP. TWO DIFFERENT REPAIR PLACES HAVE TOLD ME IT IS DEFINITLY A FAILED TRANSMISSION. I'M CURRENTLY AT 49K MILES ON THE CAR... WAY TOO EARLY FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. ACCORDING TO ALL THE POSTS AT CARTRACKERS.COM, LOTS OF OTHERS HAVE ALSO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH FORD WINSTARS.
POWER STEERING FLUID IS LEAKING OUT OF RACK ON LEFT SIDE. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 52,950 MILES ON IT. DEALERSHIP STATES THERE ARE NO SERVICE BULLETINS BUT ACCORDING TO THIS WEB SITE THERE ARE. THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD PAY FOR REPAIRS IF THEY HAVE BEEN AWARE THIS IS A PROBLEM. *JB
THE REAR AC UNIT WENT OUT AROUND 75K NEVER GOT IT FIXED BUT WHEN WE HAD THE CAR SERVICED THE COMPUTER PANEL WAS RESET AND IT WORKED AGAIN AT 96K. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED AND WE NEVER GOT IT FIXED. THE GAS GAUGE LIGHT CAME ON AND WE HAD IT FIXED AT 98K AND I DON'T KNOW THE COST. THE VAN WAS RECALLED BECAUSE OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND THE REAR AC UNIT. THERE WASN'T NO COST.THE DETAILS OF THE FIRE. MY WIFE GOT OUT HER CAR FOR WORK AND ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER THE FIRE TRUCKS WERE THERE. OUR ADJUSTER SAID THE FIRE INITIATED BEHIND THE PASSENGER SEAT IN THE AC AND HEATING CONTROL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED ON 12 SEPT. THE VEHICLE HAD 119K ON IT NOW. IF THERE IS ANYTHING ELSE YOU LIKE TO ASK ME FEEL FREE TO. I AM REALLY UPSET WITH FORD ON THE WAY THEY HANDLED THIS ENTIRE SITUATION ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY KNOW THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTED FIRES FROM RECALLS LOCATED ON THE WEB SITES. I
THE BRAKE FUILD LEAKED INTO THE WIRING CAUSING THE VEHILCE CONTROLS TO MALFUNCTION. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NLM
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT AND WITHOUT WARNING VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE FROM THE REAR PASSENGER AIR CONDITIONER UNIT.*AK
AFTER VEHICLE HAD BEEN SITTING FOR 20 MINUTES WITH THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. DEALER HAD BEEN CONTACTED. *PH THE CAUSE WAS DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL FAULT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHERE THE CONTROLS WERE FOR THE REAR A/C. POSSIBLE RECALL # 12117. *SCC *JB
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND WITHOUT WARNING VEHICLE POPPED OUT OF PARK INTO REVERSE. NO ONE WAS HURT, DEALER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH FRONT RIGHT TIRE HAD SIDEWALL SEPARATION WHICH CAUSED A TIRE BLOWOUT. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED.TIRE SIZE 32560R16.*AK
THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE ROLLED OFF A HILL, WENT ACROSS THE HIGHWAY INTO A FIELD THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE DRIVERS DOOR AND THE MUFFLER. THE SECOND TIME THE INCIDENT HAPPENED THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE CONSUMERS DRIVEWAY AND CRASHED INTO A TREE, THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGED TO THE FENDER. IN BOTH CASES THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE STEERING WHEEL NEVER LOCKED ON THE VEHICLE AS WELL. *AK *JB
WHEN PARKED ON A HILL, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACK. *BF WHEN THE VEHICLE ROLLED, IT WENT A BIG FIELD AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE DRIVERS DOOR AND MUFFLER. THE SECOND INCIDENT, THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN THE CONSUMERS DRIVEWAY ON A LITTLE HILL WHEN IT ROLLED AND HIT A TREE AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE FENDER AND BUMPER. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN BOTH ACCIDENTS HAPPENED THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. ALSO THE STEERING WHEEL NEVER LOCKED. *JB
TRANSMISSION IN '99 FORD WINDSTAR FAILED AFTER 85,000 MILES
1999 FORD WINDSTAR, WITH 58,000 MILES LEAKS POWER STEERING FLUID OUT OF LEFT RACK. DEALER SAYS COMMON PROBLEM WITH RACK AND PINION. MAKES GRINDING AND SQUEALING SOUND , CONSTANT LOSS OF FLUID.*AK
WHILE DRIVING, LOST THE RACK AND PINION STEERING CONTROL ON MY 1999 WINDSTAR VAN. ONLY 31,000 MILES ON THE VAN EVEN THOUGH IT IS 4 YEARS OLD. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED WHEN IT RAINED OR THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS RUNNING THE VEHICLE STALLED. ONCE THE VEHICLE STALLED THE CONSUMER HAD TO WAIT A HALF HOUR OR MORE BEFORE RESTARTING. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST THREE TIMES A MONTH IN THE LAST THREE MONTHS. THE DEALER HAS EXAMINED THE VEHICLE TWICE AND COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. *JB
MILEAGE WAS 49600, TOTAL COST FOR THE REPAIR WAS $2600.00 BUT OUR COST WAS ONLY $2072.00 BECAUSE DREW FORD IN SAN DIEGO, CA HELPED US COVER SOME OF THE COST. THE ITEMIZED BILL SAID THE REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION WAS $1702.28. THE TRANNY WENT OUT WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS AND NO SIGN OF GIVING OUT. MY WIFE USUALLY DRIVES IT BUT I HAD JUST DRIVEN IT THE DAY BEFORE AND I AM IN TUNE WITH ODD NOISES AND THE VAN HAD NONE. 8/22/2003 IN THE EVENING WHEN SHE PULLED INTO OUR GARAGE AND WAS STILL MOVING FORWARD, IT STOPPED. IT DIDN'T MOVE UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS REV'D PRETTY HIGH THEN IT WOULD KICK IN VIOLENTLY. THAT LASTED ABOUT 2 OR 3 TIMES WHILE TRYING TO FINISH MOVING IT INTO THE GARAGE WHEN A HUGE GRINDING SOUND TOOK PLACE AND THE VAN DID NOT MOVE AGAIN UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK TOOK IT AWAY! I AM OUTRAGED THAT THE VAN WAS SO YOUNG WHEN A MAJOR COMPONENT WENT OUT LIKE THE TRANSMISSION. AND AFTER COMBING THE WEB FOR OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS, I FOUND PLENTY OF PEOPLE. I THINK FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD PAY FOR THIS. I FIGURE THEY WON'T, THOUGH.
THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR OVER A YEAR, VERY SHORTLY AFTER MY LAST FUEL EMISSIONS TEST IN 2002. DESPITE NUMEROUS CHECKS BY MY MECHANIC, WHICH DETECTS NO FUEL EMISSIONS PROBLEMS, THE INDICATOR LIGHT STAYS ON. AFTER EACH INSPECTION BY MY MECHANIC, THE LIGHT TURNS OFF TEMPORARILY, (1 OR SO WEEKS), AND THEN RELIGHTS. WE HAVE THUS FAILED THE MD STATE EMISSIONS TEST (WITHOUT BEING TESTED BY THEM) DUE TO THIS CHRONIC LIGHT PROBLEM. MY BROTHER-IN-LAW HAS THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH HIS FORD WINDSTAR MINIVAN, AND SO DOES ANOTHER PERSON (NOT VERIFIED MYSELF). THE READ WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR HAS BEEN RECALLED. WE HAD IT REPAIRED BY A FORD REPAIR SHOP, AND IT HAS BROKEN AGAIN.*AK
CONSUMER NOTICED ABOUT THREE DAYS AGO THAT THE RIGHT SEAT BELT ON THE MIDDLE BENCH SEAT DID NOT LATCH. THE CONSUMER WILL CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER. *AK THE SEAT BELT DID NOT ALWAYS LATCH. THE CONSUMER DID NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO SIT IN THE SEAT. *SCC *JB
BOTH OF THE SLIDING DOOR POWER LOCKING MECHANISMS ARE MALFUNCTIONING. THEY NO LONGER UNLOCK WITH THE SWITCH. IT IS ALSO IMPOSSIBLE TO PULL THE LOCK KNOB UP. WHEN THE SWITCH IS PRESSED THE DOOR RE-LOCKS ITSELF. IF A PERSON IS SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT, THE DOOR ALSO WILL NOT OPEN VIA THE DOOR HANDLE OR SWITCH. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF AN EMERGENCY WERE TO ARISE. SOMETIMES WE CAN OPEN IT BY HOLDING DOWN THE FRONT DOOR SWITCH AND PULLING THE OUTSIDE DOOR HAND AT THE SAME TIME. IT DOESN'T WORK EVERY TIME. *JB
UPON BACKING OUT OF A PARKING LOT AT WORK, THE FRONT LEFT SUSPENSION SPRING ON MY 1999 FORD WINDSTAR MINIVAN (VIN [XXX]) BROKE. I HEARD A NOISE, BUT COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG. I DROVE IT 1 MILE TO WHITCOMB FORD DEALERSHIP, AND THEY REPLACED THE FRONT SPRINGS AND CHARGED ME $332.89. A LOCAL GOODYEAR SERVICE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT LEFT TIRE AT A COST OF $94.11. THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT THERE IS A RECALL OUT ON WINDSTARS FOR EXACT THIS PROBLEM, BUT THAT THE MODEL YEAR OF THE RECALL WAS ONLY UP UNTIL 1998 MODELS, NOT 1999. WELL, I'M HERE TO SAY THAT FORD HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH 1999 MODELS, AND THAT I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR FIXING THIS FAILURE. THE FRONT COIL SPRING OF THE OUR 1999 FORD WINDSTAR SUDDENLY BROKE AND PUNCTURED OUR FRONT TIRE. FORTUNATELY WE WERE TRAVELING AT ONLY 20 MPH SO THAT WE WERE ABLE TO COME TO A STOP SAFELY, WITHOUT INJURY OR ACCIDENT, HOWEVER AS WE HAD JUST TRAVELED FROM MI TO NY ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS, IF THIS HAD OCCURED JUST A SHORT TIME EARLIER, THE INCIDENT COULD HAVE ENDED IN CATASTROPHY FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY.*AK
MY 1999 FORD WINDSTAR BEGAN TO MAKE LOUD GRINDING NOISES WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED IN EITHER DIRECTION. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIPWHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE RACK AND PUMP WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *AK REPLACED AND THE COST WOULD BE $1295.00. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 38,000 MILES AND HAS EXCEEDED THE THREE YEAR WARRANTY.
MY WIFE WAS PROCEEDING FROM A STOP,PRESSED GAS AND HEARD A POP OR BANGING SOUND.CAR WOULD NOT MOVE IN FORWARD GEARS,ONLY IN REVERSE.TOWED TO DEALER.HAVEN'T HEARD FROM THEM YET.BUT BY MY RESERCH INTO THIS IT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM.VEHICLE HAS 39,000 MILES,NEVER ABUSED.FORD SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT.*AK
HEAT FAILED IN JULY, PIN TO FLAP IN EVAPORATOR CASE ASSEMBLY HAD BROKEN OFF. WHOLE ASSEMBLY HAS TO BE REPLACED REQUIRING TEARING APART THE DASHBOARD. PART ALONE COST $326.40 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON - FOUND PRESSURE LEAK AT GASKET. HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT ENGINE SLUGGISHNESS FOR YEARS AND WAS TOLD THE COMPUTER COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG...AFTER GASKET WAS FIXED, NO MORE ENGINE SLUGGISHNESS. FORD WOULD NOT COVER SAYING THE PROBLEMS COULD NOT BE TIED TOGETHER TO JUSTIFY WARRANTY REPAIR!! POWER STEERING WENT. FIRST ATTEMPTED FLUSHING SYSTEM. AFTER FAILED AGAIN, REPLACED PUMP, AFTER THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, HAD TO REPLACE ENTIRE SYSTEM. FORD REPLIED TO MY REQUEST FOR COVERAGE THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST CASE THEY HAD HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM IN A WINDSTAR AND TO KEEP MY RECEIPTS SO THAT I MIGHT GET CONSIDERATION IF THEY DO SOMETHING IN THE FUTURE. I FEEL THESE PROBLEMS ARE EXCESSIVE FOR A 50,000 MILE CAR...FORD AGREES BUT SAYS THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF PROBLEMS IS MUCH LOWER SO THEY STILL CLASS THEIR CAR AS VERY RELIABLE!!!
WE FIRST HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT 49000 MILES FOR $2000.00. JUST A FEW MONTHS LATER THE ENGINE FAILED AT 53000 MILES. TO SAVE MONEY, WE PURCHASED A USED ENGINE FROM A WRECKED WINDSTAR VAN FOR $900.00. MY HUSBAND AND FATHER DID THE LABOR THEMSELVES. THEN IN JULY 2003 WE HAD TO REPLACE THE SHIFT SOLENOIDS WHICH COST $500.00 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. NOW, JUST A LITTLE OVER A YEAR FROM REPLACING THE FIRST TRANSMISSION, THE VAN IS IN THE SHOP AGAIN WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. ANY ADVICE YOU CAN OFFER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATE. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.
LEFT REAR AND LEFT FRONT HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLIES BEGAN MAKING LOUD HUMMING/GRINDING SOUNDS SUDDENLY AT 51,000 MILES. FORD DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED DEFECTIVE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLIES FOR THE STANDARD PRICE AS IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THIS ITEM SHOULD LAST MUCH LONGER WITHOUT FAILING. STEERING PUMP BEGAN INTERMITTENTLY MAKING WHINING/HISSING SOUNDS WHEN THE SLIGHTEST TURNING INPUT WAS APPLIED. BY THE TIME THE FAILED POWER STEERING PUMP WAS DIAGNOSED, AND THE WHINING WAS CONSTANT, IT HAD CAUSED THE RACK AND PINION SEALS TO FAIL AND STEERING FLUID TO LEAK FROM THE RACK AND PINION SLEEVES. WHEN STEERING FLUID GOT LOW AND STEERING WAS NO LONGER POWER ASSISTED, MY WIFE ALMOST HAD A COLLISION WITH A VEHICLE FULL OF CHILDREN. NOT TRUSTING FORD ANYMORE, I ORDERED THE PARTS MYSELF AND HIRED A LOCAL MECHANIC TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND RACK AND PINION. IN MOST VEHICLES THESE COMPONENTS SHOULD LAST BEYOND 100,000 MILES. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FOUND THAT FAILING POWER STEERING PUMPS, LEADING TO FAILED RACK AND PINION SEALS, IS A CONSISTENT PROBLEM ON 1999 WINDSTARS, AND THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND TRYING AVOID ADDRESSING IT.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED AND FROM THE DAY I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT I HAVE PUT A FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS IN IT. THE ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON WITH CODES 171/174 LEAN ON BANK 1 AND 2 I HAVE REPLACED THE O2, THE EGR, THE DIFFERENTIAL, I HAVE HAD THE UPPER INTAKE GASKET REPLACED AND THE EGR HOSES CLEANED. THE LIGHT STILL BURNS. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE WITH THIS CAR SINCE BUYING IT AND I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE.I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES, THE STRUTS AND THE STABLIZER BAR , AS WELL AS ONE OF THE TIE RODS. THIS VAN MIGHT LOOK GREAT BUT IT RUNS LIKE CRAP WE HAVE SPENT ENOUGH ON THIS USED VAN TO HAVE BOUGHT A NEW ONE. *LA
THE RETAINING NUTS: BOLTS WERE LOOSE CAUSING THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL TO SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE. TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE NUTS, BUT PROBLEM STILL RECURRING. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY CARBON FUEL INTAKE MANIFOLD CLOGGED UP, CAUSING THE FUEL NOT TO BURN PROPERLY. *AK

ONE MONTH LATER WHILE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE CONSUMER STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A NEAR BY MECHANIC SHOP WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. *JB *NM
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADE DID NOT SUFFICIENTLY CLEAR THE WINDOW. THE BLADE TOUCHED THE BOTTOM AND THE TOP OF THE WINDOW, BUT NOT THE CENTER WHERE THE CONSUMER NEEDED IT THE MOST. *AK
STEERING FLUID LEAKED FROM THE STEERING RACK AND PINION. DEALER NOTIFIED AND STATED THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS PROBLEM# 01-5-6-6. *AK *SCC *JB

3 WHEEL STUDS ON FRONT RIGHT WHEEL OF OUR 1999 WINDSTAR VAN BROKE - CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHERE THE WHEEL COULD HAVE FALLEN OFF AT ANY SPEED. THE MECHANIC (CRAVEN AUTO AND TIRE OF GAITHERSBURG, MD) REPAIRED THE WHEEL AND TOLD ME THAT AT LEAST ONE OTHER PERSON HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A 1999 WINDSTAR. THE FIRST SYMPTOM NOTICED WAS A RATTLING NOISE AROUND THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE AREA. THEN ON SATURDAY 6/7/2003 WE PULLED INTO OUR DRIVE AND HEARD A VERY LOUD "CLUNK". I QUICKLY REALIZED THE VAN WAS UNDRIVEABLE AND HAD A TOW TRUCK TAKE THE VAN TO OUR MECHANIC.*AK
