DT: 2000, FORD, WINDSTAR MINI VAN. THE CONSUMER PARKED THE VAN ON THE STREET AT 8 PM AND SOMETIME AROUND 2:30 AM THE VAN BURNED. SOMEONE THAT WAS ON THE SECOND FLOOR OF THE BUILDING CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THEY CAME AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. THE CONSUMER WAS UNAWARE OF THIS FIRE UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING. THE FIRE WAS MOSTLY IN AND AROUND THE DASHBOARD AREA. THE FRONT WINDOW WAS BURNED AND THE DRIVERS WINDOW WAS BROKEN. THE VAN WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP; THEY KEPT IT FOR THREE WEEKS. THE DEALER COULD NOT TELL THE CONSUMER HOW OR WHY THE FIRE STARTED. THE CONSUMER SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY WERE UNWILLING TO OFFER ANY INFORMATION ON WHY THE VAN COULD HAVE BURNED LIKE THIS. A FIRE REPORT WAS TAKEN. *AK *JB UPDATED 11/15/2005. *NM

FRONT LEFT COIL SPRING BROKE WHILE BACKING OUT OF GARAGE, PIERCING INSIDE SIDEWALL OF TIRE, PUNCTURING IT. FRONT COILS REPLACE AT MY EXPENSE. OLD (BROKEN) SPRING IS IN MY POSSESSION. MAY SEND OUR FOR METALLURGICAL FRACTURE ANALYSIS TO DETERMINE ROOT CAUSE. *NM
DT: 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH ON THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS LEAKING FLUID. THIS CAUSED THE MASTER CYLINDER TO GO OUT. THE GAUGES ON THE VEHICLE QUIT WORKING, AND THIS IS HOW HE NOTICED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH FORD, THEY WERE RECALLING THE TRUCKS BUT NOT THE VANS. THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY A MONTH AGO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HE JUST RECEIVED THE VEHICLE BACK. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE I FELT THE REAR AXLE BEND. *TR
ABS LIGHT STAYS ON ALL OF THE TIME. IT HAS GRADUALLY INCREASED FROM OCCASIONALLY TO ALL OF THE TIME OVER ABOUT A TWO YEAR PERIOD.
BRAKE FLUID FOUND LEAKING FROM HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT OF ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH SPONGY PEDAL FEEL SINCE CAR WAS THREE YEARS OLD. DEALER WOULD ADJUST REAR BRAKES WHICH PROVIDED SOME IMPROVEMENT. RECENTLY ABS LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHEN BRAKING TO A STOP DOWN HILL THEN WOULD GO OUT. THIS WAS TRACED TO LOW BRAKE FLUID LEVEL. INVESTIGATION UNCOVERED LEAK FROM CONTROL UNIT. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS LISTING PEDAL GOING ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR. WONDER IF THIS COULD BE THE PROBLEM? I AM A HYDRAULIC SYSTEM ENGINEER AND HAVE BEEN FIXING MY OWN CARS FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER SEEN A LEAK FROM AN UNDAMAGED STATIC SEAL IN A BRAKING SYSTEM. THIS TELLS ME THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WAS IMPROPERLY ASSEMBLED AT THE FACTORY OR HAS A MATERIAL DEFECT.
DT: WHILE DRIVING, THE CRUISE CONTROL, AIR CONDITIONER, RADIO, WINDSHIELD WIPERS, POWER WINDOWS, ODOMETER, AND THE SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING. THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH SHORTED OUT, CAUSING THESE FAILURES. MECHANIC STATED CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH ON THESE FORD VEHICLES WERE RECALLED AND WERE UNDER INVESTIGATION. SALES DEALER ADDRESS WAS NOT AVAILABLE.*AK THIS CONDITION ALSO EFFECTED THE HORN, IN WHICH THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION WITHOUT THE HORN. HOWEVER REPAIRS WERE MADE AND THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALERSHIP WERE NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. *TT
WHILE BACKING SLOWLY FROM A DRIVEWAY, THE RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING SPONTANEOUSLY BROKE AND COLLAPSED ONTO THE WHEEL/TIRE ASSEMBLY. RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO WHEEL, TIRE, STRUT ASSEMBLY, SWAY BAR ASSSEMBLY, AND BRAKES. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP AWAITING REPAIR W/ COSTS >$2,000.00. ORIGINAL PARTS STILL AVAILABLE. THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE OF THIS TYPE TO MY VEHICLE IN < 1 YEAR. LEFT SIDE FAILED 7/25/2004. PLEASE REFERENCE ODI ID NUMBER :10086894.
I JUST DID A COPY/PASTE OF WHAT I SENT TO FORD:--DESCRIPTION OF ISSUE/CONCERN: I TOOK MY VAN IN FOR SERVICE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND I COULD SMELL AND SEE OIL ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. TURNS OUT IT WAS THE FRONT VALVE COVER, AND I'M TOLD THAT THERE WAS A TSB ON THIS PROBLEM. IT COST ME $1000.00 TO GET THIS REPAIRED. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A KNOWN PROBLEM, MY IN-LAWS HAVE THE SAME MODEL WINDSTAR AND THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, IT COST THEM MORE. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIRS TO PARTS THAT WERE MADE/ENGINEERED WRONG BY FORD. NOW I HEAR OF A PROBLEM WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL CAUSING FIRE, EVEN WITHOUT DRIVING THE VAN. IT COULD BE SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND CATCH FIRE, AND FORD IS NOT GOING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM EITHER. DT: THE OWNERS CAR WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY WHEN SHE HEARD A LOUD BANGING/SPILLING. SHE LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE VAN, AND THE FRONT COIL SPRING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BROKE. THE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THERE WAS NO DIFFERENCE IN THE DRIVING BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. BUT, HAD HEARD A SQUEAKING NOISE. VEHICLE WAS NOT IN MOTION WHEN THIS HAPPENED. CONSUMER HAS NOT CORRECTED THE FAILURE TODAY VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE OWNER WAS WAITING TO SEE IF THE MANUFACTURER WOULD OFFER TO PAY PARTIALLY FOR REPAIRS. *AK

I HAVE ACCIDENT 06/10/05, HEAD BY HEAD, BUT THE AIR BAG DO NOT WORK AND MAKE ME INJURY. I NEED INVESTIGATION ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SOON. THANK YOU
DT: NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V017000, CONSUMER OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH FAILED. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THE SAME SWITCH ON THE FORD F150, AND CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH SHORTED OUT JUST LIKE THE RECALL STATED. HE FELT THAT IF THE SAME SWITCH FAILED ON ONE IT SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR ALL. *AK

2000 FORD WINDSTAR LX TRANSMISSION BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE I85 IN VA 80,000 MILES ON IT. FLUID CAME SPEWING OUT THE BACK END OF THE VAN. $2500 COST TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. NO WARNING SIGNS THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. *TR

BOUGHT A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR MY WIFE WAS GOING TO WORK AND LOST HER BRAKES I CHECK IT OUT AND THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH HAD CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNT THE WIRING AND SWITCH AND BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE SWITCH TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND HE HAD TO TAKE IT BACK TO FORD TO REPLACE THE SWITCH AND WIRING
VEHICLE EXTREMELY HARD TO STEAR AND MADE LOUD NOISE. PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING BROKE AND JAMMED AGAINST TIRE. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE SO FAR THERE ARE NO COIL SPRINGS AVAILABLE FROM FORD OR AFTER MARKET SUPPLIER. SPRING STILL ON THE CAR AT A FORD DEALER.
DT: CONTACT STATES: SHE HAD A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR AND IT CAME OUT OF PARK WITHOUT HITTING THE BRAKE. VEHICLE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE RUNNING. HER TWO YEAR OLD CHILD GOT THE CAR OUT OF PARK ,AND IT ROLLED DOWN A HILL AND HIT A TREE. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. SHE CONTACTED FORD, AND THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT GOING TO PURSUE THE MATTER.*AK
DT:THE CONSUMER HAS HAD THE CAR ALIGNED TWICE AND TIRES CONTINUE TO WEAR ON THE INSIDE OF THE FRONT TIRES. THE 1ST ALIGNMENT WAS AT 18,000 MILES, THE DEALER REPORTED HE NEEDED NEW TIRES AGAIN. *NM THE CONSUMER NOW HAS 78,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND IS ON 4TH SET OF TIRES. THE CONSUMER CHANGED BRAND OF TIRES BUT PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING. THIS IS THE CONSUMER'S 2ND WINDSTAR AND WITH THE PREVIOUS CAR WENT THROUGH THE SAME THING WITH THE TIRES.*SB *NM
DT: FRONT DRIVERS' SIDE COIL WENT THROUGH THE TIRE, DEFLATING THE TIRE. THE WHOLE FRONT END CAME DOWN. *AK
MY 2 1/2 YEAR OLD SON PUT THE KEYS INTO THE IGNITION,TURNED IT TO POSITION 3,GRABBED THE GEAR SHIFT AND PULLED IT OUT OF PARK WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE. THE VAN ROLLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY ACCROSS THE STREET INTO THE WOODS STOPPING ONCE IT HIT A TREE. I HAVE CHECKED INTO THIS MYSELF AND WAS ABLE TO PULL THE GEAR SHIFT OUT OF PARK NUMEROUS TIMES WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE IN POSITION 3. I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL. ALSO TALKED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND IN ORDER FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT WE WILL HAVE TO PAY. WE CANNOT AFFORD THIS AND FEEL THEY SHOULD CHECK IT OUT IN CASE THIS IS A START OF A RECALL.
2000 FORD WINDSTAR. LEAKING CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. LEAKED ENOUGH BRAKE FLUID FROM MASTER CYLINDER SO THAT BRAKES FAILED. NO ACCIDENT. FORD HAS A HOLD ON REPLACEMENT PARTS.
CONSUMER STATED: CAR WAS SITTING STILL AND COIL SPRING BLEW OUT AND WENT THROUGH LEFT FRONT TIRE AND SHREDDED THE TIRE. *AK
PASSENGER SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE. HAVE TO CLOSE IT MANUALLY AND DOOR RESISTS CLOSING SO PERSON HAS TO PULL VERY HARD ON DOOR TO CLOSE. COULD CAUSE INJURY TO PERSON HAVING TO CLOSE THE DOOR DUE TO FORCE NEEDED TO CLOSE.

2000 FORD WINDSTAR CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDERNEATH THE HOOD.*MR THE CONSUMER SMELLED SMOKE AFTER IGNITION WAS TURNED AND DROVE TO THE NEAREST SERVICE STATION. WHEN THE HOOD WAS OPENED THE CONSUMER SAW A BALL OF FIRE NEAR THE ENGINE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF CAR. FORD REPLACED CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH LEADING TO THE MASTER CYLINDER HARNESS. *BF *NM
CONTACT STATES: CONTACT SAYS THAT THE VEHICLE MADE A CRACKLING NOISE ONE TIME FOR LIKE ONE MINUTE AND THAT IS WHEN THE FAILURE STARTED.. THE SPEED ODOMETER, TEMPERATURE GAUGE, GAS GAUGE, AND TACHOMETER FAILED. USE TO HAVE A THEFT LIGHT AND SEAT BELT LIGHT, NONE OF THESE FEATURES ON THE VEHICLE COME ON ANYMORE. THIS PROBLEM TOOK PLACE ON SUNDAY MAY 1ST. CONSUMER'S HUSBAND WENT OUT TO START THE VAN AND IT WOULD NOT START THAT IS WHEN IT MADE THE NOISE. HE GOT OUT OF THE VAN, SHUT THE DOOR, AND OPENED THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND THEN NOTHING ON THE DASHBOARD WOULD WORK. THE VAN STARTED THAT TIME.*AK *JB

2000 FORD WINDSTAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW SHATTERED. *TS THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WINDOW SHATTERED BUT DID NOT BREAK. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE ON THE GLASS OF ANY SORT OF IMPACT. IT WAS STILL INTACT AND PERFECTLY FLAT (NO INDENTATIONS, MARKS, SCUFF ETC). *NM

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, HE NOTICED THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. HE STATES THAT THE ABS SYSTEM BRAKES FAILED WHICH TIED IN WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL WHICH ALSO FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000. I PURCHASED MY CAR FROM POWAY HONDA IN FEBRUARY 2004. ONE WEEK AFTER DRIVING IT OFF THE LOT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THEY CLAIMED TO FIX IT AND IT CAME ON FOUR MORE TIMES AFTER THAT. WE ALSO COMPLAINED THAT THE CAR WAS CLUNKING INTO GEAR BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEARS. NO ONE COULD FIND A PROBLEM, A COUPLE WEEKS LATER TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS SPRAYING OUT ALL OVER THE BACK OF THE CAR, THEY CLAIMED TO NOT BE ABLE TO FIND A LEAK. WE LITERALLY HAD THE CAR IN EVERY MONTH SINCE THEN. POWAY HONDA, WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, REFUSES TO EVEN HELP ME ANYMORE. FINALLY, A YEAR LATER, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED MAKING FUNNY NOISES. PERRY FORD REBUILT THE TRANSMISSION. ONE WEEK AFTER THAT WE HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY (WITH 5 CHILDREN IN THE CAR) BECAUSE IT WAS SPRAYING TRANSMISSION FLUID AGAIN AND SMOKING, THE CAR WAS TOWED TO PERRY FORD. THEY OVERHAULED THE TORQUE CONVERTER. NOW, ONE WEEK LATER THE OVERDRIVE LIGHT IS BLINKING INDICATING A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE CAR SPUTTERS INTO GEAR. ALSO, WHEN THE CAR IS IN CRUISE CONTROL IT DOESN'T SLOW DOWN GOING DOWN HILL, THE GEARS DO NOT CATCH AND IT JUST GAINS MORE SPEED. I AM SO FURIOUS WITH FORD MOTORS AND SICK AND TIRED OF DEALING WITH THIS PIECE OF JUNK THAT I WILL NEVER BY ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE AND I WOULD ADVISE NO BODY ELSE TO EITHER. *JB
WENT INTO DOCTORS OFFICE AND WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF I HEARD A LOUD NOISE. WHEN I CAME OUT I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO REVERSE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. *JB
MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR WILL STALL, WHILE DRIVING, WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER TO THE ENGINE, BRAKING SYSTEM AND STEERING SYSTEM IN A 3800 POUND VEHICLE. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, BUT REPEATS ITSELF EVERY 2 OR 3 WEEKS OR SO. THE LAST TIME IT CAUSED MY WIFE TO TRANSVERSE INTO A STOP SIGN CONTROLLED INTERSECTION IN A POPULATED RESIDENTIAL AREA OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY WITHOUT BRAKES OR STEERING. IT HAS HAPPENED 15 TIMES TO MYSELF AND MY WIFE AND TWICE TO SOUTH BAY FORD SINCE APPROXIMATELY NOV OF 2004. I BELIEVE THAT FORD DISPATCHED ENGINEERS TO SOUTH BAY FORD IN HAWTHORNE CALIFORNIA WHO STATED THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE OF FUEL TANK DESIGN AND IS NOT CORRECTABLE. SOUTH BAY FORD AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY TOGETHER APPEAR TO BE READY TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO ME WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS "DON'T LET THE FUEL TANK DROP BELOW 1/4 OF A TANK". THE STATED REASON IS THAT THE FORD WINDSTAR HAS A RECTANGULAR FUEL TANK THAT WHEN DRIVING ON GRADES CAN CAUSE THE FUEL TO MOVE TO A PART OF THE TANK THAT WILL NOT PUMP THE GAS TO THE ENGINE (THIS IS SUPPOSEDLY A KNOWN BUG AND POSSIBLY ASSOCIATED WITH A SERVICE BULLETIN). I ASKED WHY, ASSUMING THAT MY DRIVING HABITS (AND MY WIFE'S) HAVE NOT CHANGED IN RELATION TO OUR LETTING OUR TANK GET BELOW 1/4 TANK, THEN WHY HAS THIS ONLY SURFACED AS A PROBLEM IN THE LAST 4 OR 5 MONTHS? WHY NOT THE FIRST 3.5 YEARS?!? THIS CAR IS COVERED BY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR ONE MORE YEAR. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR NEARLY THREE WEEKS NOW. FORD CAN NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT WILL NOT TAKE OWNERSHIP OF IT EITHER.
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THE VALVE COVER. IT WAS LEAKING AND CAUSING THE INTAKE MANIFOLD O-RINGS TO FAIL. THE IMMEDIATE RESULT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO RUN VERY LEAN. TOO MUCH AIR CAUSED THE SPARK IN THE ENGINE TO BE TOO HOT. *AK
CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH MOUNTED ON MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER WAS COVERED IN BRAKE FLUID. REMOVED THE CONNECTOR AND FOUND IT WAS FILLED WITH BRAKE FLUID. THIS HAD CAUSED #10 FUSE TO BLOW UNTIL CONNECTOR WAS LEFT DISCONNECTED. CRUISE CONTROL HAD BECOME INOPERATIVE IN 2004.*AK
DT: HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, STARTED OUT OF THE BLUE. DRIVING THE ROAD, USING CRUISE CONTROL, DISENGAGED THE CRUISE CONTROL, AND FEW MINUTES LATER ENGINE DIED. NO PROBLEMS UNTIL THIS INCIDENT. HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND HAD THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CHECKED. CONSUMER DOESN'T BELIEVE THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS CHECKED PROPERLY. SO THE CONSUMER DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY BECAUSE OF HE WAS AFRAID IT WOULD CATCH ON FIRE. WENT TODAY AND RECONNECTED THE BATTERY ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON WITHOUT THE VAN BEING STARTED. *AK

2000 FORD WINDSTAR WITH 60K SUFFERED TRANSMISSION FAILURE 2/28/05, IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR ON A BUSY STREET WITH 5 KIDS ON BOARD. A WEB SEARCH VERIFIED THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO NUMEROUS 2000 WINDSTAR OWNERS, I BELIEVE THAT FORD SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND THE TRANSIMSSIONS BE RECALLED, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
HAD JUST STOPPED AND WAS PULLING OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY WHEN A CLUNK SOUND FROM UNDER THE VAN WAS HEARD. THERE WAS NO POWER, NO FORWARD OR REVERSE MOTION. THE TRANSMISSION WAS GONE. IT HAD TO BE TOWED HOME AND WE WERE TOLD THAT SINCE IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY THE COST WOULD BE OURS TO BEAR. IT SITS IN THE GARAGE AS I HAVE NO MONEY TO PAY THE $2400 MECHANIC BILL. FORD KNEW ABOUT THIS AND YES HAS DONE NOTHING. THIS IS THE SECOND WINDSTAR I'VE OWNED THAT HAS HAD TRANSMISSION TROUBLE. THE FIRST BEING A 1995 WITH HEAD GASKET TROUBLES. *NM

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON..TOOK TO FORD SERVICE DEALER...TOLD ME SEAL TO INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS LEAKING. THEY DO THEM ALL THE TIME!! PROBLEM IS IT ONLY REQUIRES A FEW INEXPENSIVE SEALS TO REPAIR. FORD WILL ONLY SELL THE COMPLETE INTAKE MANIFOLD WITH SEALS. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD COSTS @ $600 SO THE COST OF REPLACING A FEW FAULTY SEALS IS 800-$1000. WHY DOES FORD NOT RECALL THESE SEALS OR AT LEAST COME OUT WITH A SEAL REPAIR KIT, SO THE CONSUMER DOES NOT HAVE TO THROW AWAY A GOOD INTAKE MANIFOLD. I HAVE OWNED THIS VAN SINCE NEW, AND I SEE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS FILED A COMPLAINT ON THIS SAME ITEM. IF FORD WILL NOT ATTEMPT TO RECTIFY THIS SMALL PROBLEM, I WILL DEFINITELY BE SHOPPING ELSEWHERE. *JB
MY WIFE WAS STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT. LIGHT TURNED GREEN, SHE WENT TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN. ABOUT HALF WAY THRU THE TURN, THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNK. AT THAT POINT MY WIFE COULD ONLY COAST THRU THE INTERSECTION. STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR DID NOTHING. HAD VAN TOWED AND LOOKED AT. TRANSMISSION FAILED. MILEAGE AT 72,000.
WE BOUGHT OUR 2000 FORD WINDSTAR USED IN EARLY 2005. EVER SINCE WE BOUGHT THIS VAN, THE ABS LIGHT HAS CONTINUED TO COME ON. IT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE TO FIX, BUT WHILE READING ABOUT THE RECENT WINDSTAR AXLE RECALL, I FOUND THAT THE ABS LIGHT PROBLEM IS A RECURRING PROBLEM AMONG MANY WINDSTAR OWNERS. I KNOW THE BRAKES DON'T WORK LIKE THEY SHOULD, BUT I HAVE ALWAYS PUT UP WITH IT BECAUSE I COULD NOT AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED. IT IS ESPECIALLY SCARY WHEN BRAKING GOING DOWN A HILL. 1/31/05: PUT VAN IS DRIVE AND A LOUD CLUNKY NOISE OCCURED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOTMOVE. I NEEDED THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AT $2295.00. THE VAN ONLY HAS 37,000 MILES AND IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY OFF COURSE. DEALER SAYS TOO BAD. STAY AWAY FOR FORD WINDSTAR. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH VEHICLE JERKED AND VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, AND A MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DOES NOT ENGAGE OR MOVE IN ANY GEAR.
