REAR HATCH WINDOW EXPLODED WHILE WAITING TO PULL INTO DISABLED PARKING--SENDING GLASS THROUGHOUT VEHICLE AND EMBEDDING GLASS IN MY HEAD AS WELL AS CAUSING STROKE SYMPTOMS...WITH 18 RECORDED INCIDENTS THIS IS A DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND FORD SHOULD BE CHARGED FOR THIS CONDITION WITH REAR HATCH WINDOW. *JB
2000 WINDSTAR VAN, AUTOMATIC PASSENGER SIDE DOOR OPENS WITHOUT WARNING OR INPUT FROM KEYFOB.*AK
THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON FOR SOME TIME. IT MAY TURN OFF ON IT'S OWN. IT MAY TURN OFF THE NEXT TIME THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT SEVEN YEARS. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 62,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR SUDDENLY FAILED. I WAS STARTING UP FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT AT A BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN I HEARD A LOUD CLUNK FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR AND THE CAR STOPPED MOVING. THE CAR WOULD GO IN REVERSE ONLY. I HAD IT TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE SUN GEAR HAD SHEARED OFF. (RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET INDICATED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR.) I HAD A MECHANICAL ENGINEER LOOK AT THE BROKEN PART AND HE CONCLUDED THAT THE WELD WAS NOT DEFECTIVE, IT WAS JUST POORLY DESIGNED. THE REPLACEMENT PART HAS BEEN REDESIGNED AND IS NOW REINFORCED, WHICH WOULD INDICATE TO ME THAT FORD IS WELL-AWARE OF THE DESIGN FLAW. (SINCE THEY WENT TO THE TROUBLE OF REDESIGNING THE PART) THIS IS JUST THE LATEST IN A LONG LINE OF PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR.*AK
WHILE REVERSING, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SPRING PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THIS CAUSED A TIRE BLOW OUT. THE DEALERSHIP THE SPRING. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *NM
HI, FORD WINDSTAR VAN MANUFACTURED IN 1999-2000 NEEDS RECALL FOR FAULTY VALVE COVER, INLET MANIFOLD SEALS WHICH IS CAUSING "LEAN FUEL" ERROR CODES P0171 AND P0174.*AK FORD KNOWS IT BUT NOT TAKING ANY STEP WHICH IS CAUSING WORST FUEL ECONOMY FOR THOSE VEHICLES AND A WHOLE LOT MORE POLLUTION BECAUSE OF THOSE VEHICLES. PER VEH) XF2Z-9E498-DD VACUUM LINE 3F2Z-6582-BA VALVE COVER - LH ). THE SALES PERSON HAD JUST ONE LOOK AND HE TOLD ME THE TOTAL COST OF ALL !!! HE TOLD ME THEY ARE SELLING 3-4 SETS EVERYDAY !!! IF YOU TYPE "P0171, P0174" ON ANY INTERNET SEARCH ENGINE, YOU WILL GET THOUSANDS OF SEARCH RESULTS WITH FORD WINDSTAR CONNECTION. FORD HAD PUBLISHED A BULLETIN COVERING AND ADVISING PEOPLE WHAT TO DO. THEY PULLED IT BACK CONSIDERING THAT MIGHT PROVIDE INDIRECT REPONSIBILITY. DOT MUST INVESTGATE THIS AND FORCE FORD FOR RECALL. MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR HAS BEEN BLOWING THE NUMBER 10 FUSE WHICH CAUSES THE SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, HEAT AND OR AIR CONDITIONER TO NOT WORK. A FORD MECHANIC HAS LOOKED AT IT A COUPLE OF TIMES, BUT CAN'T FIND OUT WHY AND IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO KEEP LOOKING. THE FUNNY THING IS WHEN THE FUSE BLOWS IT DOES NOT SEAM TO ADD MILEAGE TO THE ODOMETER, MIME HAS READ THE SAME MILEAGE FOR AWHILE. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM A FEW YEARS, I JUST KEEP REPLACING FUSES. *JB
2000 FORD WINDSTAR SE STALLS AT RED LIGHTS AND WHEN IDLING -- DEALER KEPT INSISTING NOTHING WRONG, YET WOULD STALL. IN SHOP IN OCTOBER RETURNED TO US AS WORKING -- STALLED IN DECEMBER AGAIN. *JB
WHILE FILLING UP AT THE GASOLINE STATION CONSUMER NOTICED GASOLINE POURING OUT FROM THE FUEL FILLER NECK HOSE. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT MECHANIC WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. CONSUMER INFORMED THE MECHANIC THAT THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE, AND HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *AK
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT BRAKE ROTORS PROBLEM. WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 50 MPH OR GREATER THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE VIBRATED BECAUSE OF WARPED ROTORS. CONSUMER HAD THE ROTORS REPLACED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITHIN A 1 YEAR PERIOD. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER, BUT RECEIVED NO ASSISTANCE. *AK
THE CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE DRIVER NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER. THE SMOKE WENT OUT ON ITS OWN. THE DRIVER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. THE SECOND INCIDENT INVOLVED THE TRANSMISSION EXPLODING WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK ONLY FOUR OF THE SEAT BELTS WORKED. *SC *JB
O/D OFF LIGHT FLASHES ALL THE TIME, VEHICLE SMELLS LIKE FUEL WHEN SHUT OFF NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHEY ENGINE LIGHT WILL NOT GO OUT. OXYGEN SENSOR HAS BEEN CHANGED. VAN HAS A SHORT NO ONE CAN FIND IT PUTTER AND CUT OFF ALL THE TIME ITS DRIVABLE AROUND TOWN THAT'S IT RUNS TOO LONG IT SHUTS OFF IF A/C OR HEAT IS ON TOO LONG IT MAKES A GROANING NOISE AND WILL NOT STOP UNTIL SHUT OFF VEHICLE THEN RESTART. EVERYONE THAT LOOKS AT IT SAY ITS A FORD ISSUE LOCAL DEALER SAID NOTHING IS WRONG WITH VAN. *NM
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STARTED TO HESITATE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP, WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED.*AK
AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKES THEY COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. DEALER REPLACED THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM , BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED.*AK...ALSO,OVERDRIVE LIGHT CAME ON DEALER REPLACED SHAFT SENSOR. *AK
BOUGHT 2000 FORD WINDSTAR LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO . VAN JUST TURNED 70,000 MI WIFE WAS STOPPED AT BUSY INTERSECTION,TRIED TO ACCELERATE,AND TRANSMISSION CLUNKED, AND MADE AN AWFUL NOISE .TRANSMISSION FAILED. WOULD NOT GO FORWARD. FORD DEALER SAID IT WOULD COST $ 2,500. AN EXPENSE I CANNOT AFFORD, ESPECIALY RIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS. SURE WOULD BE NICE IF FORD MO. CO. COULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THEIR POORLY MANUFACTURED VEHICLES !!!!*AK
BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY WHEN VAN MADE LOUD CLUNKING NOISE WHEN PLACED IN DRIVE AND WOULD NOT MOVE. NEW TRANSMISSION NEEDED $2400! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE. *NM
CONSUMER REQUEST FOR RECALL ON FORD WINDSTAR 2000, SOUNDS LIKE VALVES RATTLING. *BF
THE INTERMITTENT FUNCTION ON MY WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR HAS FAILED. FORD HAS A RECALL ON CERTAIN MODELS OF MY VEHICLE, BUT EVIDENTLY MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE MALFUNCTION. VEHICLE ALSO HAS HARD SHIFT WHEN DOWNSHIFTING GOING AROUND A CORNER. *JB
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED 2000 FORD WINDSTAR WAS HAVING MULTIPLE PROBLEMS. THE FUSES BLEW OUT, THE LIGHTS WERE BLINKING ON AND OFF, AND THE ODOMETER/SPEEDOMETER WERENOT WORKING. THE MECHANIC THAT LOOKED AT THE CAR SUGGESTED THAT IT MAY BE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING THE LIGHTS WEREBLINKING ON AND OFF. CONSISTENTLY, KEPT THE DASHBOARD NOT ILLUMINATED. THEY HAVE EVEN TRIED TO LEAVE THE AIR OFF TO SEE IF THIS WOULD HELP THE FUSES NOT TO BLOW OUT. THERE WERE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD THAT WHEN LIT UP WTHE FUSE BLEW OUT. . THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON WHEN THE FUSE BLEW OUT. THE REAR DEFROSTER DIDN'T WORK NOR DID THE REAR AIR VENTS. THIS WAS NOT A SAFETY CONDITION FOR THE OWNER TO BE TRAVELING WITH CHILD WHO HAS MAJOR HEALTH ISSUES. THE OWNER HAS NOT TAKEN THE VAN TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE SHE COULD NOT AFFORD THE COST OF LABOR AND SERVICE CHARGES. THE OWNER HAS HAD A SMALL PROBLEM CONTACTING THE FORD MANUFACTURER, BUT THAT WAS NOW RESOLVED. SHE WAS PLANNING ON CONTACTING THEM TODAY. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WILL NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK WITH THE REMOTE. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT WORKING. *AK
00 V 164 000/FUEL LINE FITTINGS: WHILE RE-FUELING THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER NOTICED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE FILLER NECK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER LOCATED A RUBBER FUEL LINE THAT WAS DETERIORATING AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THAT RECALL. *JB
FORD WINDSTAR 2000, BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE VAN OR DECREASE THE SPEED. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. WHEN THE SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE VAN. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. *JB
THE HEATER BLOWER CHAMBER MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING DEFROSTER/ DEFOGGER AND THE HEAT SYSTEM TO BECOME INOPERATIVE. THUS, REDUCING CONSUMER'S VISIBILITY. THE ENTIRE HEATER BLOWER CHAMBER HAD TO BE REPLACED. *AK *SC
TRANSMISSION IN 2000 FORD WINDSTAR FAILED AT 77000 MILES. REQUIRED TOTAL REPLACEMENT. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, ALL THE DOOR LOCKS OPERATED PROPERLY. HOWEVER, AT 60,000 MILES, THE DOORS DO NOT LOCK AND CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. IN ADDITION, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS FAIL TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE DOORS ARE OPENED. FURTHERMORE, THE CRUISE CONTROL CANNOT BE DEACTIVATED UNLESS THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
WHILE EXITING THE VEHICLE, THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR SLID FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. THIS CAUSED THE CONSUMER'S SON TO SUSTAIN AN INJURY AND HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, HOWEVER FORD STATED THAT THEY NEEDED MORE INFORMATION. THE CAUSE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED AT THIS TIME. *NM *SC
CONSUMER STATED THAT EMISSION LIGHT CAME ON. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC TO BE CHECKED. AFTER CHECKING THE VEHICLE, SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS LEAKING. ALSO, MECHANIC STATED THAT VEHICLE WAS TOO NEW TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLS. THE CONSUMER MANAGED TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RED RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE CAUSE WAS NOT DETERMINED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *NM
THE ABS LIGHT GOES OFF AND STAY ON UNTIL SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE. IT IS VERY INTERMITTENT, ON WINTER TIME RARELY GOES OFF, SUMMER TIME IS ON MOST OF THE TIMES, IT LOOKS LIKE THE PROBLEM IS MORE PERSISTENT WITH THE HEAT. BRAKES WORK WELL I DON'T SEE ANY DIFFERENCE. *TR
PASSENGER'S SIDE MIDDLE WINDOW LOCATED ON THE SLIDING DOOR BLEW OUT WHEN THE CONSUMER SHUT THE DOOR. *AK
FORD WINSTAR MODEL YEAR 2000 WITH LOWBACK DRIVER'S SEAT. THE SHEET METAL SEAT BACK HAS CUT THROUGH THE FOAM PADDING AND CLOTH SEAT. THIS LEAVES A SHARP METAL EDGE THAT CUTS THE DRIVERS CLOTHING, CUTS (BLEED) THE DRIVER AND COULD IMPALE THE DRIVER IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM MAY BE RELATED TO A KNOWN TSB FOR WINDSTARS WHICH HAVE A "TWISTED" SEATBACK METAL WORK.*AK IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE POOR DESIGN. THE EDGE STICKING OUT IS SHARP 90 ANGLE AND WOULD NOT CUT THROUGH THE FABRIC OF SEAT OR INJURE DRIVER IF IT HAD BEEN STAMPED ROUNDED INSTEAD.
THE STAINLESS STEEL CABLES THAT RAN DOWN TO THE GAS PEDAL BROKE. THIS WAS NOTICED AFTER HAVING THE OIL CHANGED. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO DEALER, THEY STATED THAT NO DEFECTS WERE FOUND. THESE CABLES WERE VISIBLE UNDER THE HOOD. *AK *JB
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT AN ELECTRICAL DOOR PROBLEM. WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE DOORS FLEW OPEN AND CONSUMER COULD NOT CONTROL THEM BECAUSE THEY WERE ELECTRIC. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER REPEATEDLY AND THEY BANDAGED THE PROBLEM WHICH ONLY LASTED A MONTH OR SO. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN.*AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS ON FORDS DATA BASE. *TC *JB
AT ABOUT 40,000 MILES A VIBRATION STARTED TO OCCUR IN THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BETWEEN 5 & 40 MPH. I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER AN WAS TOLD THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON AND IT IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE TORQUE CONVERTER. THE DEALER FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION. THIS VIBRATION APPEARS TO BE LESS WHEN THE FULIDS ARE COLD. THIS PROBLEM WILL CONTINUE UNTIL I HAVE THE TRANSMISSION OVERHAULED. THE CAR NOW HAS ABOUT 43,000 MILES ON IT.*AK
WHILE PARKED, I STARTED MY CAR, THEN PUT ON MY SEATBELT. IMMEDIATELY AFTER I PUT MY SEAT BELT ON, THE AIR BAG ON THE DRIVERS SEAT BY MY LEFT SHOULDER BLADE WENT OFF. NO WARNINGS WERE GIVEN PRIOR TO THIS. MY SEAT WAS SMOKING WHERE THE AIR BAG WAS. IT TOTALLY RIPPED THE LEATHER ON MY SEAT. IT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT WENT OFF IN MY EAR.*AK
THE CHECK ENGINE WENT ON AND THE CODES P0171 AND P0174 WERE FOUND. THERE WAS AN EXTREME LOSS IN GAS MILEAGE LEADING UP TO THIS SITUATION, DOWN TO ~10MPG. THE GASKET MANIFOLD, THE LINE LEADING TO IT, AND THE COVER ASSEMBLY FOR A ROCKER ARM WERE ALL REPLACED AT A COST OF $543.10. THIS ON A 4YR OLD VEHICLE WITH ONLY 47,000 MILES. THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THEY HAD SEEN THIS BEFORE IN THE WINDSTAR. KIND OF GOT THE IDEA IT WAS A CHRONIC PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BY FORD! IN THE COURSE OF REPAIRING THIS THEY ALSO DETERMINED THAT THE LEFT FRONT AXLE SEAL WAS LEAKING AND THE SERVO COVER GASKET WAS LEAKING ALSO. THESE WERE ESTIMATED TO COST $465 SO I WILL BE SPENDING OVER $1000.00 ON THIS VEHICLE FOR DEFECTS IN LESS THAN 5 YEARS AND UNDER 50,000 MILES. WHAT A PILE OF JUNK! IT WILL BE A LONG TIME BEFORE I GO BACK TO FORD IF EVER.
PASSENGER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR DOESN'T CLOSE FULLY. THE DOOR COMES A-JARRED IF THE VEHICLE DRIVES OVER THE SLIGHTEST IMPERFECTION IN THE ROAD. A RE DESIGNED HINGE WAS MANUFACTURED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AT A COST TO THE CONSUMER.*AK
THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WITH 55,000 MILE ON IT. WE TOOK IT TO NORRISTOWN FORD IN PA AND WE NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. IT COST US $3000.00. *AK
PROBLEM INCIDENT--- FORD DEALERSHIP USING BG PRODUCTS TRANSMISSION FLUSH SYSTEM TO PERFORM THE 60000 MILE EMISSION SERVICE INDUCES A SERIOUS TRANSMISSION LEAK. DEALER SAYS THE BG PROCESS CAN NOT CAUSE SUCH A PROBLEM. SENT THE VEHICLE AWAY WITH A SERIOUS TRANSMISSION LEAK.
WHEN I PUT THE VAN IN DRIVE IN THE A.M., IT HESITATED LIKE I HAD IT IN BETWEEN GEARS. AS I PULLED OUT INTO THE HIGHWAY, WE HEARD A LOUD CRUNCH LIKE WE BOTTOMED OUT. AS WE ARE SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD WITH ON COMING TRAFFIC, THE VAN ONLY WENT IN REVERSE!! MUCH TO THE SURPRISE OF ON COMING TRAFFIC. THIS MINI VAN HAS ONLY 47,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN BABIED FOR A LONG TIME. *JB
WHILE AT A STOP VEHICLE STALLED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD. CONSUMER PULLED OVER, AND VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE SAFELY. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE, AND A POLICE REPORT WAS ISSUED. VEHICLE WAS TOWED. *AK
IN 2004/2005 THE PAINT ON MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR BEGAN FLAKING OFF. IT STARTED ON THE HOOD, THEN THE LIFTGATE AND THE ROOF. AT THIS POINT IF WE HAVE A WIND STORM I FIND CHIPS OF PAINT ALL OVER MY DRIVE WAY. FORD SAYS "PAINT DOESN'T LAST FOREVER" AND BASICALLY THE PROBLEM IS ALL MINE. *TR
MANIFOLD GASKETS FAILED, EXHAUST SENSORS FAILED, FUEL INJECTOR WIRES RUBBED TOGETHER CAUSING ARC AND FUEL INJECTOR FAILURE, SPARK PLUG REPLACED, SPARK PLUG WIRING HARNESS FAILED. VAN HAS APPROX. 48,000 MILES. ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH ELECTRICAL; POWER DOORS, POWER LOCKS, FRONT-DRIVER POWER SEAT, BACK-UP SENSORS ALL HAVE FAILED AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER. VAN HAS BEEN SERVICED FOR ALL PROBLEMS ON AT LEAST FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS OVER THE PERIOD OF OWNERSHIP. WE PURCHASED NEW.*AK

VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE. TECHNICIAN REPORTED THAT LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING FAILED AND RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO OTHER SUSPENSION PARTS AND ABS WIRING TO THAT BRAKE UNIT. PARTS WERE REPLACED.
