THE STEERING COLUMN MOUNTED TURN SIGNAL LEVER HAS A DESIGN DEFECT THAT PREVENTS THE SIGNAL (BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT) FROM OPERATING PROPERLY. (I.E. STAYING ON WITHOUT CONTINUOUSLY HOLDING THE LEVER) UNLESS THE STEERING WHEEL IS POSITIONED IN A NARROW RANGE. THIS DEFECT PREVENTS THE DRIVER FROM SIGNALING AS LAWFULLY REQUIRED IN MANY SITUATIONS. CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING 55MPH ON T HIGHWAY AND ABS BRAKING SYSTEM LIGHT WAS BLINKING ON DASH PANEL. HE WAS IN PROCESS OF SLOWING VEHICLE DOWN, AND RIGHT REAR WHEEL LOCKED UP. HE WAS ABLE TO PULL VEHICLE TO SAFETY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP.*AK WHILE TRAVELING, THE ABS LIGHT FLASHED THREE TIMES AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE LOCKED UP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO GO OUT OF CONTROL. *YH
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH TRANSMISSION LOST POWER WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE. COULD NOT DRIVE FORWARD, AND REVERSE WAS ONLY GEAR WORKING.*AK

WHILE IN A LEFT HAND CURVE, DRIVER HEARD A BANGING NOISE. THEN, VEHICLE WENT OUT OF CONTROL. THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL DID NOT STRIKE ANY OBJECTS. THE PIN FELL OUT OF THE SPINDLE THAT CONNECTS TO THE SUSPENSION, THUS, CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL, WHICH CAUSED A CRASH
REPORTED SPONGY BRAKES. THEY BLED BRAKES, LASTED A WEEK, NOW PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR AGAIN. EMERGENCY BRAKE HAS ALMOST NO EFFECT. DEALER SAYS IT'S NORMAL AND ALL ARE THAT WAY. *AK
WHILE CONSUMER IS DRIVING PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR CAN COME OPEN WITHOUT ANY ASSITENCE. CONSUMER'S CHILD ALMOST FELL OUT OF DOOR. THIS HAPPEND WHILE CONSUMER WAS ON HIGHWAY. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH DOOR.*AK THE CAUSE FOR THE SLIDING DOOR OPENING WHILE DRIVING WAS DETERMINED TO BE DETENT SWITCH FAILURE. THE HUMMING NOISE WHILE CRUISING WAS CAUSED BY VAPOR MANAGEMENT VALVE FAILURE. *YH
ON THE DAY CONSUMER BOUGHT VEHICLE AND DROVE IT HOME THERE WAS SOME NOISE COMING FROM STEERING COLUMN. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.*AK CONSUMER STATES BELLS GO OFF RANDOMLY FOR NO REASON, AT ANY GIVEN TIME AND WHEN IT RAINS BOTH SLIDING DOORS LEAK INSIDE, PASSENGER SIDE DOOR IS LOOSE AND SHAKES AND RATTLES, WILL OPEN BY ITSELF. *JB
WHILE AT A GAS STATION CONSUMER WAS PULLING UP TO A WINDOW, PRESSED BRAKES AND THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR. CONSUMER REAR ENDED SOMEONE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, THEN ON OCTOBER 24, 2000 WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER PUT ON BRAKES AND THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR. CONSUMER HAD TO CUT IN FRONT OF THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC TO HIT A CURB IN ORDER TO STOP VEHICLE.*AK

SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING SEATBELT NOT TO LATCH WHICH MAY NOT PROTECT A CHILD IN EVENT OF A CRASH. DEALER POPPED IT BACK INTO PLACE, AND SAID IT WAS OKAY TO USE. BUT, CONSUMER ASKED TO REPLACE SEATBELT SYSTEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK

VEHICLE WAS SOLD WITHOUT CERTIFICATION LABEL. DEALER NOTIFED. *AK THE DEALER WANTS THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE TO PICK UP REPLACEMENT BUT THE OWNER INDICATES TO PREFER THE MAILING OF THE STICKER SINCE THE DEALER IS HALF HOUR DRIVE AWAY. *YH
THE LEFT REAR TIRE ON MY MINIVAN BLEW OUT ON SOUTHBOUND I-75 AT MILE MARKER 309 ON TUESDAY SEPT. 5. THE TIRE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A CONTROLLED STOP WITH NO INJURIES AND NO VEHICLE DAMAGE OTHER THAN THE TIRE. CONTINENTAL GENERAL CLAIMS THIS FAILURE IS DUE TO "ROAD HAZARD" BUT THERE ARE NO CUTS, SCRATCHES, OR PUNCTURES THAT MAKES ME BELIEVE THIS IS TRUE. THE TIRE HAD ABOUT 6500 MILES ON IT. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 80 DEGREES AND I WAS DRIVING ON SMOOTH PAVEMENT. I HAVE THE TIRE AVAILABLE FOR YOUR INSPECTION.( DOT NUMBER: ACM3 44C TIRE SIZE: P215/70R15 )
AT 632 MILES WE HAD A CRACKED SEAL REPLACED, ALONG WITH THE REAR ELECTRIC SLIDING DOOR WHICH WAS ADJUSTED, ON 04/00 WE STILL HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE DOOR AND ANOTHER DOOR AS WELL AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WAS FOUND.ON 09/00 TRANSMITION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND DOOR WAS STILL INOP, ALONG WITH THE OTHER DOOR. THIS VEHICLE IS AN UNSAFE LEMON. THE SERVICE REPAIR FACILITY MADE MANY ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE PROBLEMS WITH THE DOORS, AMONG MANY OTHER MANY MAJOR DEFECTS.WE DEMAND OUR RIGHTS UNDER THE CA. STATE LEMON LAW TO REPLACE THIS VEHICLE.
WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH WHEN VEHICLE WAS "T"-BONED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE & WENT INTO A TAILSPIN. REAR END OF VEHICLE HIT A GUARDRAIL & THEN BOUNCED OFF & HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE HEAD ON. UPON IMPACT WITH SECOND VEHICLE, AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. HAD EMERGENCY ROOM TREATMENT & WAS RELEASED.*AK

NO EMERGENCY STOP BUTTON FOR SLIDING DOOR. WRIST WAS BROKEN TRYING TO PREVENT DOOR FROM OPENING. TOOK TO DEALER & INFORMED THAT DOOR WORKS THE WAY IT WAS DESIGNED TO DO.*AK
AFTER 1 WEEK OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE REAR DOORS WERE DEFECTIVE. ALSO, THAT BRAKES FELT "SPONGY". DURING REPAIRS DEALER DISCOVERED THAT MASTER CYLINDER WAS DEFECTIVE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE THEN. DEALER HAS ADVISED CONSUMER THAT REPAIR PART WAS ON BACKORDER OF WAITING LIST OF 2000. *AK
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT AN ONGOING CONCERN THAT BOTH POWER SLIDING DOORS WOULD NOT CLOSE PROPERLY OR OPEN INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE WAS TO THE DEALER ON EIGHT SEPARATE OCCASIONS, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK

THE TIRE GOT AN 20 CM HOLE ON THE SIDEWALL WHILE WE WERE DRIVING AT 60 MPH AT I270 JUST IN SIDE MARYLAND FROM NORTHERN VIRGINIA. FOUR ADULTS AND TWO LITTLE CHILDREN. WE WERE IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION...THE TIRE SHOWED NO ANY PREVIOUS WARNING SIGN. DISCOVERED A CRACKED REAR AXLE ON MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR SEL. PERFORMED RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR AXLE HAS A DESIGN FLAW THAT ALLOWS MOISTURE, SALT, SAND, ETC. TO COLLECT AND RUST THE AXLE FROM THE INSIDE OUT AND THAT POTENTIALLY OVER 900,000 VEHICLES COULD BE AFFECTED. A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WAS FILED REGARDING THIS ISSUE IN MAY 2010. *TR
WHILE VAN WAS PARKED ON A SIGHT INCLINE SLIDING DOOR ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE RELEASED BY THEMSELVES AND CAME CRASHING DOWN, PINNING CHILD BETWEEN DOOR AND FRAME. CHILD RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES TO HIS LEGS. PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO FORD CUSTOMER'S SERVICE. THE VAN WILL BE CHECKED BY THE DEALERSHIP. *AK DEALER SAID THE DOOR WAS DESIGNED ONLY TO STAY OPEN ON LEVEL SURFACES. *YH
WHILE DRIVING DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SLIDING DOORS POPPED OPEN WHICH MAY CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY IF SOMEONE WAS NOT STRAPPED IN, MAY FALL OUT. ALSO, DRIVER SLIDING DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM OUTSIDE. WONT HAVE ACCESS TO GET IN DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR. DEALER HAD THE VEHICLE, BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE. BUT, DEALER COULD ONLY ADJUST THE DOORS. *AK
POWER STEERING PUMP IS WHINNING AND CAUSING VEHICLE TO LURCH A LOW SPEEDS. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE PUMP, THE FORD PLANT HAS SENT ENGINEER TO LOOK AT IT, NO ONE KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON. THIS IS PREVALENT ON MANY NEW WINDSTARS. I AM AFRAID THAT FAILURE OF PUMP WILL CAUSE ME TO LOOSE CONTROL OR HAVE ENGINE QUITE AND LOOSE ALL POWER. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD AND THEY DON'T SEEM TO CARE OR HAVE ANY REAL CONCERNS.*AK
CONSUMER WAS WASHING VEHICLE ON A COOL DAY AND BACK WINDOW EXPLODED. *AK DEALERSHIP DID NOT FIX THE WINDOW UNTIL WE FOUND THAT THE PART WAS SUBJECT TO RECALL. *YH
AIR IN BRAKE LINE, FORD ADVISES MASTER CYLINDER REPLACEMENT BUT LONG WAIT FOR THE PART. (TOOK TO DEALER ON 7/26, ESTIMATE FOR PART 8/30) WHY SO LONG? DEALER INDICATED ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH SAME PROBLEM WAS IN THE SAME WEEK. ALSO INDICATED FORD IS USING THE PARTS FOR PRODUCTION LINE VEHICLES AND HAS NOT STOCKED THE DEPOTS WITH THIS PART!
LEFT REAR TIRE WAS LEANING, NOTICED METAL ON METAL SOUNDS, THEN DISCOVERED THE REAR AXLE WAS SNAPPED AT A JOINT POINT. *TR
MY WIFE WAS COMING OFF THE FREEWAY OFF-RAMP AND REALIZED SHE HAD NO BRAKES. THE PEDDLE HAD NO GIVE SO SHE STOOD ON THE PEDDLE AND IT SLOWED HER DOWN ENOUGH TO MAKE THE TURN AND PULL INTO A PARKING LOT ACROSS THE STREET. SHE THEN CALLED TO GET THE VAN TOWED TO THE SHOP. SHE WAS VERY LUCKY THAT SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO MAKE ANY SUDDEN STOP ON THE FREEWAY BECAUSE SHE WOULDN'T HAVE HAD ANY BRAKES. SHE WAS ALSO VERY LUCKY THAT THERE WASN'T ANYONE IN FRONT OF HER ON THE OFF-RAMP. IT WAS THE POWER BOOSTER THAT FAILED AND THEN IT TOOK SEVERAL WEEKS FOR THEM TO GET THE PARTS AS IT WAS ON A NATIONAL BACK ORDER, WHICH LEAD ME TO BELIEVE ALOT MORE PEOPLE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE WAS NO WARNING THE BRAKES WERE GOING OUT AT ALL. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN MAKING A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE SINCE ABOUT A MONTH AFTER WE BOUGHT IT AND DOESN'T SEEM TO SHIFT RIGHT. WE HAD IT CHECKED OUT IN THE SHOP AT THE TIME IT WAS IN FOR THE BRAKES AND THE REPLACED A BRACKET. THE VAN STILL DOES NOT SEEM TO SHIFT RIGHT AT THIS TIME.
WHILE STOPPING AT A STOP LIGHT TRANSMISSION WENT. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. *AK THE DEALER INDICATES THAT THE MANUFACTURER ALLOWS ONLY FAILED PART REPLACING NOT REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. *YH
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH HOOD FLEW UP AND BLOCKED CONSUMER'S VIEW. CONSUMER MANAGED TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.*AK

DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGES AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH MASTER BRAKE CYLINDERS ON 2000 WINDSTARS; THEY HAVE FAILED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH CUSTOMER VEHICLES ALREADY ON THE ROAD, WHILE FOCUSING ON CORRECTING THE DESIGN FLAW OF THE BRAKE CYLINDERS COMING OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN UNDRIVEABLE FOR OVER A MONTH, FORD HAS BEEN SLOW IN RESPONDING TO DEALERSHIP'S REQUEST FOR REPLACEMENT MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER. THREE PROMISED DELIVERY DATES HAVE COME AND PASSED. DEALER REPORTS OTHER WINDSTAR OWNERS ARE ALSO AWAITING REPLACEMENT MASTER BRAKE CYLINDERS FOR 2000 WINDSTARS, HOWEVER, INDICATIONS ARE THAT FORD IS AWARE OF A FAULTY DESIGN IN THE WINDSTAR'S BRAKING SYSTEM, AND WHILE THEY ARE CURRENTLY CORRECTING THE PROBLEM ON NEW VEHICLES COMING OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE, THEY HAVE FAILED TO,, IN A TIMELY MANNER, ADDRESS A MOST DANGEROUS ISSUE IN VEHICLES ALREADY ON THE ROAD.
WHEN PRESSING ON BRAKES THERE WAS VIBRATION, AND BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO ALL THE WAY DOWN. BRAKES JUST DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT. *AK
RIGHT REAR DOOR WILL OPEN BY ITSELF AFTER IT'S CLOSED AND LATCHED. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER CONTACTED. *AK
WHILE DRIVNG WHEELS ON RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE CAME COMPLETELY OFF. ALL LUGS:NUTS WERE BROKEN WITH NO SIGN OF WEAR AND TEAR. VAN WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
