WHILE DRIVING 10 MILES PER HOUR, REAR TAILGATE GLASS WINDOW EXPLODED. IT WAS RAINING OUT. ROAD CONDITIONS WERE WET, SMOOTH, PAVED SURFACE. GLASS SHATTERED AND FLEW EVERYWHERE, INSIDE VEHICLE AND OUTSIDE VEHICLE. LOUD EXPLOSIVE NOISE. IT WAS EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING. LUCKILY, I WASN'T INJURED AND DIDN'T LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND MY 3 SMALL CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME.
2000 FORD WINDSTAR, ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHILE ON A HILL,THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. PULLED EMERGENCY BRAKE, BUT WAS NOT IN TIME TO STOP VEHICLE FROM CRASHING INTO DUMPSTER AND CAUSING EXTENSIVE REAR END DAMAGE. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE REASON FOR FAILURE, STILL HAVING BRAKING DIFFICULTIES WHEN ON INCLINE AND BACKING. DATE GIVEN IS ESTIMATE, PAPER WORK AT HOME. *JB
CRANKCASE VALVE LOCATED ON VALVE COVER FAILED --- HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE VALVE COVER --COST $349.03 AT LOCAL FORD AGENCY -- VEHICLE HAD 47707 MILES ON IT THE LEFT VALVE COVER WAS REPLACED . *AK
TODAY, MY HUSBAND NOTICED THAT MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE'S PRESSURE LOOKED A LITTLE LOW. AS HE CHECKED THE PRESSURE (WHICH WAS 30), HE NOTICED THAT THE TIRE WAS TEARING/SEPARATING CLOSE TO THE RIM (ABOUT 1 INCH ABOVE). THE TEAR WAS A LITTLE WIDER THAN A QUARTER INCH AND ABOUT 7 - 9 INCHES LONG. WE DID A CHECK TO THE REMAINING TIRES AND FOUND ALL THE TIRES SHOWED SOME POTENTIAL WEAR IN THE SAME PLACE. I DROVE 10 MILES TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER (WILLIS FORD, SMYRNA, DE). THREE SERVICE MEN LOOKED AT THE TIRES AND WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO DRIVE IT, AS THEY AGREED THE TIRES WERE "TOO DANGEROUS" TO RIDE ON. WITHIN 4 HOURS THEY HAD A DELIVERY OF 2 EMERGENCY TIRES TO REPLACE THE 2 WORST ONES. I STILL HAVE 2 ORIGINAL TIRES ON MY VAN. I AM EXTREMELY UPSET TO KNOW MY CAR WAS SERVICED ON JUNE 9TH AT CARMAN FORD AND SUPPOSEDLY RECEIVED A TIRE ROTATION AS PART OF MY OIL CHANGE SERVICE. NO ONE REPORTED THIS WEAR AND THEY ALLOWED ME TO CONTINUE DRIVING MY TWO CHILDREN AROUND ON DANGEROUS TIRES. I CALLED CARMAN TO FIND OUT IF THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THESE TIRES AND HOW I AM TO GET THE REMAINING 2 REPLACED AND DID NOT RECEIVE A RETURN CALL TODAY. I AM STILL CONCERNED ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THESE TIRES. I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED, THEREFORE I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE TIRES I STILL HAVE WILL BEGIN TO SHREAD. THEY DO SHOW THE SIGNS OF WEAR NOW. ANY GUIDANCE YOU CAN PROVIDE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER REPORTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS BRAND OF GENERAL TIRE. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH VEHICLE APPEARED TO BE IN CRUISE CONTROL MODE, AND WOULD MAINTAIN SPEED EVEN AFTER REMOVING FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR PEDAL. *AK DEALER NOTIFIED, AND PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED, HOWEVER FIX WAS NOT STATED. **ET
INTERMITTENTLY ENGINE WOULD ACCELERATE HIGH WHEN STARTING VEHICLE OR WHEN IT SAT FOR A WHILE. VEHICLE BEEN TO DEALER'S SHOP ON THREE OCCASIONS, AND WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE PROBLEM. *AK
VEHICLE WAS GOING 35-40MPH AND ANOTHER VEHICLE SHOT OUT IN FRONT, CAUSING A CRASH. FRONT AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. CONSUMER HAD SEAT BELT ON. FORD HAS GIVEN A STRAIGHT ANSWER WHY IT DIDN'T DEPLOY.*AK
GASOLINE TANK WAS BUILDING UP PRESSURE INSIDE OF TANK. WHEN HE OPENED GASOLINE TANK CAP THERE WAS A SOUND LIKE EXPLOSION . WHEN FUEL WAS INSIDE, THERE WAS PRESSURE. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM MECHANIC REPLACED FUEL PRESSURE TANK VALVE.*AK
WHEN PARKED ON AN INCLINE MANUAL-SLIDING DOOR CLOSES EASY WITH SLIGHTST TOUCH. DOOR DOES NOT HAVE A LOCKING LATCH MECHANISM TO KEEP IT OPENED. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM LOST A NUT, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SWAY AND WANDER. CONSUMER STATES IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STAY IN THE LANE. *YH
SIDE PASSENGER DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE COMPLETELY, AND OCCASIONALLY POPS OPEN. USUALLY OCCURS WHEN STOPPED, CLOSING DOOR, BUT HAS POPPED OPEN WHILE MOVING. OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY.*AK
RIGHT FRONT BRAKE PAD BURNT OFF, ROTOR DAMAGED. UPON INSPECTION AT DEALER, THREE FRONT BRAKE PADS WERE INTECTED AND OPERATIONAL, BUT THINNED FROM NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE FOURTH, RIGHT FRONT OUTSIDE PAD, WAS COMPLETELY GONE AND THE OUTSIDE ROTOR SUSTAN HEAVY DAMAGE. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE REP THAT IT WAS NORMAL TO WEAR MORE ONE SIDE THAN THE OTHER, HOWEVER ALL THREE INTACT PADS WERE VERY SIMILAR IN WEAR. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT FORD DESIGNED ITS PAD TO LAST ONLY 15,000 TO 20,000 MILES AND THEN THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO BURN OFF, WITHOUT ANY SRCATCH GAURD WARNING. ACCORDING TO THE REP, DAMAGE TO THE ROTOR IS NORMAL AND EXPECTED. THE ENTIRE SITUATION IS OBSURD. I EXPLAINED THAT BECAUSE OF THE UNEVEN WEAR OF THE PADS, THAT I BELIEVE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE PISTON. I WAS THEN INFORMED THAT ONLY SHOPS SUCH AS SEAR, WALMART, AND OTHERS FEED CUSTOMERS THAT LINE SO THEY CAN REPLACE THE PART FOR MORE MONEY. HE STATED THAT NOTHING CAN GO WRONG WITH THE PISTON AND THAT IT WAS A MYTH.*AK
BRAKE PEDAL GOES COMPLETELY TO FLOOR. VEHICLE STOPS, BUT IF IN AN EMERGENCY CONSUMER DOESN'T KNOW IF IT WILL STOP. DEALER TEST DROVE ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. DEALER STATED THAT IT MUST BE NORMAL BECAUSE OTHER VEHICLE DID THE SAME THING. *AK
FRONT WINDSHIELD DETERIORATED AND CAUSED POOR VISIBILITY WHILE LOOKING INTO WINDSHIELD FROM THE SIDE. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND REPLACED GLASS, BUT PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE. WOULD LIKE FOR NHTSA TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER.*AK *JB
POWER SLIDING DOOR FAILS TO REMAIN CLOSED AND WILL OPEN AUTOMATICALLY. DEALERSHIP HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE THREE TIMES,AND HAS FAILED TO EFFECTIVELY REMEDY THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS.*AK
ENGINE PINGS AND STUTTERS. ENGINE CHECK SHOWS CARBON BUILD-UP DEALER -- MARSHALL FORD REPLACED INTAKE HOSES AND A LONG LIST OF OTHER THINGS AND NOW 2 YEARS LATER I AM STUCK WITH A VAN WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT ON AND SINCE THE WARRANTY IS UP, THEY REFUSED TO FIX OR TRIED TO FIX ANYTHING WHEN THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I HAD FROM DAY OF PURCHASE. CARBON BUILDS UP NO MATTER WHAT I DO. THE DEALER HAD THE VAN IN FOR REPAIR OFF AND ON A TOTAL OF OVER TWO MONTHS. *LA
THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, TRAVELING ABOUT 25 MPH. THE RIGHT POWER SLIDING DOOR OPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. NOBODY IN THE VEHICLE PRESSED ANY BUTTON OR REMOTE CONTROL OR DID ANYTHING TO CAUSE THE DOOR TO OPEN. WHEN I PUSHED THE OVERHEAD BUTTON TO MAKE THE DOOR CLOSE, IT CLOSED ALMOST ALL THE WAY BUT THEN SPRUNG OPEN AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 5 TIMES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND STOP THE VEHICLE. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND CLOSED THE DOOR MANUALLY. AFTER THAT THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN AT ALL, EITHER MANUALLY OR WITH THE REMOTE CONTROL. I DID REPORT THE INCIDENT TO FORD, AND THE PERSON I SPOKE WITH SAID THAT SHE COULD NOT FIND ANY RECORD OF THIS PROBLEM EVER HAPPENING WITH ANY FORD MINIVAN.*AK
WHILE GLASS WINDOW IS DOWN AND ARM OUT AT TIME OF STARTING ENGINE, DOORS LOCKS WILL LOCK AUTOMATICALLY, AND AT THAT TIME WILL PINCH CONSUMER'S ARM, LEAVING BRUISES. *AK
THE DOOR DEVELOPED A SQUEAKY/TWISTING METAL SOUND...AS IF THE HINGES WERE ALL OUT OF WHACK... THE OTHER SIDE IS BEGINNING TO MAKE SIMILAR BUT NOT AS LOUD NOISES.*AK
MANUFACTURER STATES; VAN IS BUILT TO THEIR SPECIFACTIONS, THUS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED. *AK
ALTHOUGH FUSED THE PUMP STILL CAUGHT FIRE. PARTS HAVE BEEN SAVED. *AK

THE DRIVERS SEAT IN MY 2000 WINDSTAR BECAME AN ISSUE ON FEBRUARY 22, 2001, WHICH WAS REPAIRED FOR THE FIRST TIME ON MARCH 13 2001. SINCE THEN, IT HAS BEEN IN AND OUT FOR REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENTS 6 TIMES. WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN, FORD MOTOR COMPANY WILL NOT FIX IT BECAUSE OF THE EXPIRATION OF ITS WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THERE?S NO EFFORT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, JUST TO PERFORM REPLACEMENTS AND REPAIRS UNTIL THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. *LA

MOTOR REPLACED AT 20000 MILES. 2 WEEKS LATER, NEW MOTOR WAS KNOCKING LIKE FIRST ONE AFTER 500 MILES. CURRENTLY, THIRD MOTOR WILL BE INSTALLED. CONSUMER TRYING TO GIVE VEHICLE BACK. *AK

THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM, WHY ARE THE SIDE WINDOWS NOT COVERED UNDER THE CURRENT FORD RECALL OF 2000 WINDSTAR WINDSHIELDS AND LIFTGATE GLASS BECAUSE OF THE BONDING PROBLEM? *AK

TRAVELLING AT APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH I WAS BROAD SIDED BY A CAR TRAVELLING APPROXIMATELY 20-25 MPH. I WAS HIT FLUSH ON THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR, THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDER DOOR, AND A SMALL PORTION OF THE DRIVER SIDE REAR PANEL. WHY WOULDN'T MY SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOY IN THAT SITUATION? ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE APPRECIATED. POLICE WERE NOTIFIED BUT NO REPORT WAS TAKEN BY THEM.

2000 FORD WINDSTAR HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS, MOST SEVERELY WAS THE FAILURE OF THE SLIDING DOORS TO LATCH/LOCK PROPERLY. THEY WOULD POP OPEN WHILE ON THE ROADWAY PUTTING CHILDREN AT RISK SITTING NEXT TO THE DOORS. FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WERE UNAWARE OF PROBLEM AND VEHICLE TAKEN IN 6X FOR REPAIRS. FORD MOTOR SAID THEY WERE ALSO UNAWARE OF ANY OTHER WINDSTARS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. FOUND ON INTERNET THAT THIS IS WIDERANGING PROBLEM. FILED LAWSUIT AGAIN FORD UNDER CALIFORNIA LEMON LAW. THEY ARE BUYING CAR BACK. TRACY MCCRACKIN. *AK
VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED WITH AIR IN BRAKES, CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKES, AND RESULTING IN SMALL CRASH. *AK
THE 2000 FORD WINDSTAR HAD BEEN HAVING SOME HANDLING ISSUES SUCH THAT IF THERE WAS WATER OR SAND ON THE ROAD WE WOULD FISHTAIL AND FEEL LIKE DRIVING ON BLACK ICE. I WAS ALWAYS ABLE TO RECOVER CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT INCIDENT. IT GOT TO A POINT THE VEHICLE COULDN'T BE DRIVEN SAFELY IN WET OR SNOWY CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS PRETTY MUCH DRIVEN IN SMALL TOWN CONDITIONS. THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED WHEN THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL TOP WAS ANGLED INTO THE VEHICLE (I.E. CAMBER OFF BY 2-3 INCHES). MECHANIC INSPECTED THE SUSPENSION AND FOUND A CRACKED REAR AXLE WITH NO SIGNS OF RUST OR DAMAGE NEARBY. THE AXLE WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *TR
ELECTRIC SLIDING DOOR OPENS WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE CAR IS PARKED & OFF. DEALER WILL NOT FIX BECAUSE THEY "CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM". THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN THAT I DON'T WANT TO DUPLICATE!! THERE ARE 4 OTHER COMPLAINTS I HAVE FOUND THAT CORRELATE TO THIS ISSUE. THEY ARE 866315, 871988, 730676, 871684. I HOPE THAT SOMEONE IN YOUR OFFICE WILL INVESTIGATE THIS. I AM VERY PERSISTENT AND WILL LIKELY GET FORD TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND FIX MY DOOR. I WILL EVEN FOLLOW UP AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE INVESTIGATION THE SITUATION FOR THE ROOT CAUSE. BUT I DON'T THINK I ALONE CAN FIGHT THIS. I NEED YOUR ORGANIZATION TO HELP FORD INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE IN A TIMELY MANER BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT. IF THIS DOOR KEEPS COMING OPEN WHEN I A DRIVING, WHAT WILL HAPPEN AT IMPACT??? THIS IS WORSE THAN THE DODGE BACK DOOR ISSUE BECAUSE CHILDREN ARE SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO THIS DOOR. *AK
WHILE DRIVING RACK AND PINION STEERING BROKE 3 TIMES. THIS CAUSED A LOUD NOISE, AND MADE STEERING DIFFICULT WHICH MAY RESULT IN A CRASH. DEALER REPLACED RACK AND PINION STEERING 3 TIMES. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
WHILE DRIVING COULD FEEL VIBRATION COMING FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE AND HARD VIBRATION FROM STEERING WHEEL. THEN, TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WHERE THEY TOLD HER THAT WAS NORMAL ON MAKE/ MODEL AND YEAR OF VEHICLE.*AK AN ENTIRE SUSPENSION SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED AS WELL AS NEW TIRES AND RIMS,BUT THE VEHICLE STILL VIBRATES. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THE VIBRATION WAS CAUSED BY STEERING PROBLEM AND STATES THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *YH
WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED MY VEHICLE, THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AND HAD TO BE JUMP-STARTED. AFTER THAT, ON A REGULAR BASIS, MY BATTERY WOULD LOSE ITS CHARGE. ON 12/15/00 THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED. SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY. SOMETIMES IT FLASHES, OTHER TIMES IT STAYS ON, I CAN BE DRIVING AND IT WILL COME ON ALL OF A SUDDEN AND LATER IT WILL GO OFF. THE SLIDING DOORS SOMETIMES POP BACK OPEN WHEN I CLOSE THEM. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR DOESN'T ALWAYS OPEN WHEN I PUSH THE BUTTON. THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR SOMETIMES SOUNDS LIKE ITS NOT COMPLETELY CLOSED. IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S CLOSED ON THE OUTSIDE, BUT RATTLES GOING OVER BUMPS OR AROUND CORNERS. THIS PROBLEM PARTICULARLY SCARES ME BECAUSE I HAVE A CHILD SITTING IN THE SEAT NEXT TO THAT DOOR. I AM ALSO AFRAID THAT THE AIRBAG IS GOING TO DEPLOY WHILE I AM DRIVING THE CAR. I HAVE BROUGHT MY VAN IN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND EACH TIME THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE CONCERN. THE LAST TIME THEY HAD MY VAN FOR 4 DAYS.*AK

THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAD BEEN COMING ON AND GOING OFF BY IT'S SELF FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS DEALERSHIP STATED IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONICS THE SIRBAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT IMPACT ON DEC. 3, 2000 WHEN MY HUSBAND TURNED THE IGINITION TO START THE VECHICLE - IT DEPLOYED WHILE WE WERE IN A PARKING LOT- HE WAS BRUISED BUT NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL TREATMENT. *AK
BACK IN DECEMBER OF 2000 WE WERE DRIVING HOME TO VIRGINIA FROM NJ AND CROSSING OVER THE DEL. MEMORIAL BRIDGE AND SLOWING DOWN TO GO THROUGH THE TOLL WHEN WE LOST OUR BRAKES. WE WEN STRAIGHT THROUGH THE TOLL BOOTH BUT WITH SMART AND QUICK THINKING I PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO BRING US TO A STOP. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED AND RENTED A RENTAL CAR. THE DEALER IN DOVER, DEL TOLD US THAT IT WAS A FACTORY DEFECT BECAUSE THE BOLT CAME OFF THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. THERE WAS ALSO NOT A SAFETY DEVICE TO HOLD IT ON. IT SHOULD HAVE HAD THIS. WE REPORTED THIS TO FORD THREE TIMES BUT ARE STILL WAITING FOR AN APOLOGY OR SOME RESTITUTION. LAST WEEK WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY SON SCREAMED THAT HIS SEATBELT DIDN'T WORK ANYMORE. I PULLED OVER AND THE SEATBELT WOULD NOT LOCK AGAIN. HE NOW HAS TO SIT IN THE REAR SEAT AT ALL TIMES.*AK
