MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR INTERMITTENTLY HAS THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHT COME ON AND STAY ON. BRAKE FLUID LEVELS ARE NORMAL, CANNOT PREDICT WHEN IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN. ONCE THE LIGHTS COME ON THEY STAY ON UNTIL YOU SHUT OFF THE VAN AND RESTART IT, THEN THEY GO OFF, SOMETIMES FOR A FEW HOURS, SOMETIMES A FEW DAYS, SOMETIMES A FEW WEEKS. I HAVE LOOKED EXTENSIVELY INTO THIS ISSUE, FOUND OUT THAT IT IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH FORD WINDSTAR AND EVERYONE HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, AND EVENTUALLY IT CAN CAUSE A FIRE IN SOME CASES. *TR
CRUISE CONTROL ON 2002 FORD WINDSTAR STARTED WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. RESEARCH ONLINE SHOWS A DEFECTIVE SWITCH ON THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER IS A VERY COMMON FAILURE THAT CAUSES THIS. THIS SWITCH IS USED ON MANY FORD VEHICLES AND WAS SUBJECT OF RECALL DUE TO FIRE HAZARD. FOR SOME REASON THE RECALL DOESN'T APPLY TO MY 2002 WINDSTAR YET, HOWEVER. *TR
POOR DESIGN, PLACING ELECTRICAL CONNECTION UNDER MASTER CYLINDER, FILLED WITH BRAKE FLUID. CAUSED INSTRUMENT PANEL TO MALFUNCTION, INCLUDING NO SPEEDOMETER, AND LEFT THE ABS & BRAKES WARNING LIGHT ON STEADY. THE CONNECTER THAT GOT WET FROM THE FLUID IS CHARRED. THIS IS DEFINITELY A FIRE HAZARD. *TR
WHILE PARTIALLY PARKED INTO THE GARAGE, AFTER DRIVING FOR ONE HOUR AND SITTING FOR HALF OF AN HOUR, SMOKE WAS OBSERVED FROM UNDER VAN. SMOKE STOPPED AND NOTICED "ABS" WARNING LIGHT ON. BRAKES WORKED, BUT CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT. DEALER INSTALLED/ REPLACED: 1) BRAKE KIT/ BRAKE PRESSURE DEACTIVATION SWITCH, 2) ECM CONTROL MODULE, 3) VALVE ASY. 4) TWO WIRING HARNESSES (ONE WAS A USED FROM A FORD ESCAPE, DUE TO THE AVAILABILITY AND COST.), 5) TWO FUSES, 6) BRAKE FLUID AND MISC. SHOP SUPPLIES. IT WAS AT THE DEALER FOR 11 DAYS, COST FOR REPAIRS WAS $1831. DROVE IT 5 MILES AND "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. THE DEALER STATED THIS WAS NOT RELATED TO ORIGINAL PROBLEM. IT WAS THE DPFE SENSOR: $331 TO REPAIR. NORMALLY THE VAN IS GARAGED, LUCKILY SOMETHING WAS IN THE WAY OF FULLY PULLING IT INTO THE GARAGE AND THE FIRE WENT AWAY QUICKLY. DEALER STATED IT WAS A "CATASTROPHIC FAILURE" AND THAT THE DEACTIVATION SWITCH HAD NOTHING TO DUE WITH THE VALVE ASY. GOING BAD/LEAKING CAUSING A FIRE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY AND THE ABS FAIL TO WORK. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE ILLUMINATION OCCURS WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000. UPDATED 10/14/08. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT WOULD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ABS, PARKING BRAKE, AND TRACTION CONTROL INDICATORS WERE ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED FOR THE INDICATORS TO DIM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO CURRENT RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE; THEREFORE, NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,200.
2002 FORD WINDSTAR INTERMITTENT ABS LIGHT ON. BRAKE SWITCH RECALL DONE 6 MONTHS AGO, NO FIRE. I HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THEIR IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS MODULE DUE TO CODE C1185 MAIN RELAY ISSUE. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED OF A SOLDER JOINT ON THE ECM BREAKING DUE TO EXPANDING AND CONTRACTING IN HEAT AND COLD. *TR
DASH BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS COME ON. THEY CAN BE RESET BY TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTING. NOTICED LEAKING SWITCH ON BOTTOM OF MASTER CYLINDER. WIRING DAMP WITH BRAKE FLUID. CRUISE CONTROL DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE. *TR
THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ON MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR COME ON INTERMITTENTLY IN WARM WEATHER. THE DIAGNOSTIC CODES ARE C1194, C1185, C1242, AND C1095. THE PROBLEM STARTED LAST SUMMER, STOPPED OVER THE WINTER, AND HAVE STARTED AGAIN THIS SUMMER. *TR
THERE ARE THREE FAILURES ON MY CAR THAT HAVE HAPPENED WITHIN THE LAST THREE MONTHS. THE 2002 FORD WINDSTAR ONLY HAS 57,000 MILES. 1. INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS LEAKING: GASKETS ARE SUCKING AIR IN AND NOT SEALING PROPERLY 2. BROKEN STRUT, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE FIRST TIME WAS WITHIN 10,000 MILES. 3. ABS CONTROL MODULE: THE CONTROL MODULE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED AND FAULTY BY THE DEALERSHIP. ABOUT A $1,200 TO REPLACE. ALL THESE THINGS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO A CAR THAT IS MAINTAINED WELL, GARAGE KEPT, AND ONLY HAS 57K MILES ON IT. *TR
I OWN A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR AND HAVE HAD RECENT ABS / BRAKE PROBLEMS. AFTER FURTHER EXAMINATION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID ONTO THE ABS BRAKE CONTROL MODULE WHICH CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE MODULE. UPON MORE INVESTIGATION, IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THIS SWITCH IS ALWAYS "HOT" WHETHER THE ENGINE IS RUNNING OR NOT. THIS IS TURN COULD CAUSE A FIRE FROM THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT THIS SWITCH IN QUESTION HAS CAUSED MANY OTHER PROBLEMS AND EVEN DEATH WITH OTHER FORD MODELS. I WILL HAVE TO DISENGAGE MY CRUISE AS WELL AS MY ABS SYSTEM TO ENSURE TO FIRE. THIS WORRIES ME AS I WANT THE SAFEST FOR MY FAMILY BUT AT THIS TIME CANNOT AFFORD THE FIX. HOPEFULLY FORD WILL OWN UP AND PAY TO FIX THIS MESS THAT WAS CAUSED BY A $30 SWITCH. *TR
INTERMITTENT RED BRAKE LIGHT FOR A YEAR OR MORE. ABS WOULD STILL WORK.. THEN SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING IN GARAGE. FOUND WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR TO ABS UNIT BURNED UP. VEHICLE BATTERY DEAD. RED AND YELLOW LIGHTS ON ALL THE TIME. SURE GLAD IT DIDN'T BURN MY HOUSE DOWN. *TR

WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR BUT THE PROBLEM REPEATS AFTER ONLY ONE DAY. WE ARE CONCERNED AFTER READING SEVERAL REPORTS OF FIRES AND BRAKE FAILURES. *TR

HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND TRACTION LIGHT, ABS LIGHT AND BRAKES LIGHTS COME ON. THE LIGHTS STAY ON UNTIL I TURN THE CAR OFF. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I HIT A BUMP A CERTAIN WAY SO THE LIGHTS ARE NOT ON ALL THE TIME. I'VE TAKEN IT TO A FEW GARAGES AND WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY BRAKES. IF NOTHING IS WRONG WHY DO THE LIGHTS COMES ON. NO ONE KNOWS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE AND ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM LIGHTS WOULD CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE IGNITION LIGHT AND CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH DID NOT FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
2002 FORD WINDSTAR - BRAKE LIGHTS STAYING ON. GETTING OVERHEATED & CAUSED NEW BATTERY TO CORRODE AND CAR TO DIE. WE HAD TO JUMP START THE VEHICLE. READ ABOUT FAULTY CRUISE SWITCH CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. WE CHECKED THE CRUISE LIGHT AND IT NO LONGER FUNCTIONS. CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN 2001. IT IS THE VEHICLE OUR NEWLY PERMITTED 15 YEAR OLD SON IS DRIVING. WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN RECALLED? IT IS SCARY TO THINK THE BREAKS COULD GO OUT ON OUR SON OR THAT A FIRE COULD START. *TR
CLUNKING NOISE HEARD IN RIGHT REAR OF 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. INSPECTION BY OWNER FOUND CRACK IN REAR AXLE BEAM. FORD DEALER REPLACED AXLE BEAM STATING IT WAS CRACKED DUE TO IMPROPER JACKING. THEY POINTED OUT TWO "DIMPLES" IN THE UNDERSIDE OF THE AXLE BEAM AS EVIDENCE OF THE IMPROPER JACKING, AND STATED THAT THE CRACK STARTED THERE. AFTER THE REAR AXLE BEAM WAS REPLACED, I INVESTIGATED THE UNDERSIDE OF THE NEW BEAM, AND FOUND THE IDENTICAL "DIMPLES" WERE PRESENT ON THE NEW BEAM. THESE "DIMPLES" ARE, I BELIEVE, CAUSED BY THE FORMING OF THE BEAM BY THE MANUFACTURER AND NOT DUE TO IMPROPER JACKING. I BELIEVE THAT THE REAR AXLE BEAM OF MY FORD WINDSTAR CRACKED BECAUSE OF AN INHERENT DEFECT CAUSED DURING THE FORMING PROCESS. *TR
MY WIFE HAS A MINIVAN THAT I HAD THE TIRES REPLACED ON WITHIN THE PAST TWO YEARS. I PURCHASED A SET OF 4 HIGH QUALITY MICHELIN TIRES WITH 75K WARRANTY FROM SEARS AT FAIR OAKS MALL IN FAIRFAX, VA. EARLIER THIS YEAR MY WIFE HAD A BLOW OUT AND I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO SEARS FOR THEM TO INSPECT THE TIRE. ONCE THEY REMOVED THE TIRE THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A PUNCTURE ANYWHERE ON THE TREAD OR SIDEWALL - I WAS A TIRE REPAIR TECHNICIAN BACK WHEN I WAS IN COLLEGE. I ASKED THE TECHNICIAN WHY THE TIRE WOULD HAVE BLOWN IF THERE WAS NOT A PUNCTURE, HE DIDN'T HAVE AN EXPLANATION. I ASKED IF THAT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE MANUFACTURER WARRANT AND THEY SEEMED UNWILLING TO HELP. I ENDED UP BUYING ANOTHER TIRE FOR $150.00. THEN JUST THIS WEEKEND AS I WAS DRIVING I HEARD A HISSING SOUND COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE I NOTICED THE TIRE WAS LEAKING AIR FROM THE VALVE STEM. I TOOK THE TIRE IN TO HAVE THE VALVE STEM REPLACED AND THEY MENTIONED TO US THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON VALVE STEMS. I BELIEVE THE PREVIOUS INCIDENT WAS ALSO CAUSED BY A VALVE STEM ISSUE SINCE THERE WAS NO OTHER INDICATION OF A PUNCTURE. I'M PLANNING TO HAVE ALL OF THE VALVE STEMS REPLACED ON THE REMAINING TIRES SO THAT MY WIFE WILL NOT SUFFER A BLOW OUT WITH OUR 3 CHILDREN IN THE VAN. I THINK THERE NEEDS TO BE A GREATER CAMPAIGN ON THIS ISSUE TO INCREASE AWARENESS AS IT COULD POTENTIALLY IMPACT ALL 4 TIRES ON A VEHICLE. *TR

BOTH THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT AND ABS WARNING LIGHT COME ON INTERMITTENTLY IN OUR 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THIS TYPICALLY OCCURS DURING WARMER WEATHER OR WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR A FEW HOURS OR MORE. *TR
SMOKE CAME FROM UNDER THE HOOD NUMEROUS TIMES. THE LAST TIME CAUSED SO MUCH DAMAGE UNDER THE HOOD THE VAN WAS NOT DRIVABLE. HAD THE VAN TOWED INTO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY GAVE ME A QUOTE AND SAID IT WAS THE MASTER CYL , BRAKE FLUID HAD LEAKED AND IT DRIPPED ON SOMETHING THAT CAUSED IT TO START A MINOR FIRE THAT CAUSED LOTS OF SMOKE. THE SPEED SENSOR WAS DAMAGED. THE FINAL PRICE TO FIX WAS $1,003.00 MOST OF WHICH WAS LABOR. I HAVE HEARD NUMEROUS CASES SIMILAR TO THIS ONE AND I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FIXING OF THESE PROBLEMS. *TR
OWN A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR AND I AM HAVING A SITUATION WHERE BOTH THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE REMAIN ON WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE READ OF PROBLEMS WITH THE "BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH" IN OTHER WINDSTARS AND DECIDED TO CHECK IT OUT ON MINE AFTER READING OF ENGINE FIRES OCCURRING BECAUSE OF IT. ON MINE I HAVE FOUND A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID UNDERNEATH THE MASTER CYLINDER IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I HAD MY SON PUMP THE BRAKES WHILE I HAD THE WIRING TO THE DEACTIVATION SWITCH REMOVED AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING AS THE BRAKES WERE PUMPED. I HAVE DECIDED TO REPLACE THE DEACTIVATION SWITCH BEFORE A POSSIBLE FIRE OCCURS. *TR
ALL THE LIGHT ON ABS, BRAKE ARE ALL LIT UP AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE ABS MODULE IN THE 2002 WINDSTAR AND THEY ARE PRONE TO BREAK DOWN AND THE BREAKING IS OFF ON THE VAN WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON. *TR
THE ABS, BRAKE AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS IN MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR KEEP COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY. BRAKE FLUID IS NORMAL AND FRONT BRAKES WERE RECENTLY REPLACED. WARNING LIGHTS SEEM TO APPEAR WHEN STARTED AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE SUN OR AFTER DRIVING. I HAVE NOT NOTICED BRAKING PROBLEMS BUT AM WORRIED THAT THE BRAKES MAY FAIL WHEN NEEDED. FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE IS NO KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE WINDSTAR ABS SYSTEM. I HAVE READ SEVERAL FORUMS WHERE WINDSTAR OWNERS ARE REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEMS. MY VEHICLE HAS 63K MILES. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. THE ONLY WAY TO GET IF OFF IS TO RESTART THE VAN I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP TWICE NOW. THE GARAGE ( FIIVE STAR FORD) IN WARNER ROBINS TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER LAST WEEK. THAT COST ME $490.00. IT STILL DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE LIGHTS. *TR
MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR HAS HAD THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT INDICATORS ON MY DASHBOARD ILLUMINATED. I HAVE HAD THE VAN INSPECTED AND THEY SAID THIS IS COMMON IN THE WINDSTAR AND THAT WHEN THEY ARE LIT UP THAT THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING AND IS UNSAFE. *TR
ALL LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD WERE LIT-ABS,EMERGENCY BRAKE, O/D, SPEEDO AND MILEAGE COUNTER COULD NOT BE READ AS I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE FREEWAY. AUTO REPAIR PERSON INDICATED THAT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A FIRE. MY ABS MODULE MELTED ONTO THE CONTROL PANEL (NOT SURE OF PART NAME) WHICH CAUSED DAMAGE TO BOTH. CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED. *TR
ON JUNE 8, 2008, OUR 2002 WINDSTAR EXPERIENCED THE FOLLOWING: ABS LIGHT WENT RED: BRAKE RED LIGHT WENT ON. SPEEDOMETER, AND TACHOMETER STOPPED WORKING. ALL WILL REQUIRE REPAIR TO PREVENT THE POSSIBILITY OF FIRE, CRASH OR BREAK DOWN. *TR

I HAVE NOW READ MANY REPORTS FROM CONSUMERS WITH THE SAME FORD WINSTAR WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. THE CRUISE CONTROL CONCERNS ME BECAUSE OF THE RECALL OF THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH ON ONE OF THEIR TRUCKS AND THE INCIDENCE OF FIRES STARTED BECAUSE OF THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH IN THE FORD WINSTAR VANS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE HESITATED. THE CONTACT TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WITHIN THE PAST TWO MONTHS AND THEY REPLACED THE INTAKE GASKET MANIFOLD, SPARK PLUGS, AND CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSORS. THE REPAIR COST EXCEEDED $4,000. NONE OF THE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN SUFFICIENT IN CORRECTING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT IS CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
2002 FORD WINDSTAR ON FIRE, PARKED IN GARAGE, NO KEY IN IGNITION, FIRE IN AREA OF FIRE WALL DRIVERS SIDE, VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR EIGHT HOURS BEFORE FIRE STARTED AT 01:00 AM. DAMAGE TO DWELLING ESTIMATED AT $300,000.00. FIVE FAMILY MEMBERS HOME, ASLEEP, AT TIME OF FIRE ESCAPED WITHOUT INJURY AFTER HOME FIRE ALARM SOUNDED. *TR
THE BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (2B264) LOCATED UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER (BEHIND THE AIR FILTER) OVER TIME DEVELOPS A LEAK. THIS CAUSES A SHORT AND A FUSE TRIP, FUSE #10 IF THE ENGINE IS ON. THIS LEAK ALSO CAUSES BRAKE FLUID TO WICK DOWN TWO WIRES TO THE ABS BRAKE MODULE (2C219). THE FLUID ACCUMULATES ON THE (ALWAYS ON) POWER CONNECTORS FOR THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WHICH ARE POWERED BY FUSES 101 AND 102 AND ARE BOTH 40 AMP. THE FLUID ATTRACTS MOISTURE, ROAD SALT AND LEADS TO A FIRE WHEN THE FLUID AND MOISTURE ACT AS CONDUCTOR BETWEEN THE HOT LEADS AND GROUND. 06/01/2008 DRIVING ON FREEWAY AND ALL OF SUDDEN MOST WARNING LIGHTS WERE LIT. NO OTHER SIGNS-VEHICLE APPEARED TO BE RUNNING FINE. THE SPEEDO AND MILEAGE COUNTER WERE NOT WORKING. ABS WAS LIT, O/D WAS FLASHING AND EMERG. BRAKE WAS LIT. MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE SCDS LEAKED BRAKE FLUID ONTO THE ABS MODULE. AUTO MECHANIC INDICATED THAT I WAS LUCKY THAT I DID NOT HAVE A FIRE. HE RECOMMENDED THAT I DO NOT DRIVE IT DUE TO A POTENTIAL FIRE THAT COULD RESULT IN THE DEFECT. MECHANIC REPLACED SCDS, ABS MODULE AND CONTROL PANEL. *TR
I HAVE AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM- I GET MESSAGE "CHECK TRACTION CONTROL". THE ABS LIGHT, THE BRAKE LIGHT AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ALL COME ON AT THIS TIME. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE VAN APPEARS TO DRIVE AND HANDLE NORMAL- HOWEVER THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL ARE NOT FUNCTIONAL AND THE BRAKE LIGHT IS ON. IF THE BRAKE LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME WE DON'T KNOW IF WE HAVE A REAL PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. IF ENGINE IS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE PROBLEM MAY OR MAY NOT REPEAT. I TOOK VAN TO GARAGE AND CHECKED BRAKES AND WHEEL SENSORS. THE SCANNER SHOWED A C1185 CODE. (PROBLEM WITH ECM; ABS CONTROL MODULE). FROM MY RESEARCH IT APPEARS THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY THERMAL EXPANSION OF THE ECM BOARD. THIS FIRST OCCURRED APPROX JUNE 1ST AND HAPPENS EVERYDAY WE DRIVE THE VAN. *TR
MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAS ILLUMINATED THE RED BRAKELIGHT YELLOW ABS LIGHTS AND THE TRAC OFF SYMBOL SPORADICALLY SINCE LAST SUMMER THIS IS CONSISTENT WITH INFORMATION I FOUND IN A CURRENT NHTSA INVESTIGATION. I HAVE ALSO READ ABOUT OTHER WINDSTAR OWNERS WITH SIMILAR ISSUES. SADLY, THEY HAVE HAD DISASTROUS OUTCOMES (VEHICLE FIRES AND STRUCTURE FIRES). THERE IS NO SIGN OF BRAKE FLUID BELOW BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. LIGHTS COME ON AND DO NOT ALWAYS REAPPEAR RIGHT AWAY WHEN THE ENGINE IS TURNED BACK ON. SEEMS TO BE LINKED WITH EXTERIOR TEMPERATURE - ON DAYS THAT ARE WARM, THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATE MORE FREQUENTLY. ON DAYS THAT ARE COLD, THEY ARE LESS LIKELY TO BE ILLUMINATED. DID NOT HAPPEN AT ALL DURING THIS PAST WINTER. AS I STATED, THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR QUITE SOME TIME (ALMOST A YEAR) FIRST NOTICED IT LAST SUMMER (2008) WITH 105,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. CURRENTLY 135,000 MILES ON ODOMETER. I HAVE NOT PARKED THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE SINCE LAST SUMMER FEARING A THE POSSIBILITY OF A FIRE. *TR

I OWN A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR SEL AND MY ABS/BRAKE LIGHT HAVE BEEN COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS. AT THIS POINT THEY ARE ON ALMOST ALL THE TIME. I PURCHASED NEW 4 TIRES FROM SEARS AUTO CENTER IN DULLES, VA ON 1/46/07 WHICH THEY INSTALLED ON OUR 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. MY WIFE, 3 YEAR DAUGHTER AND MYSELF WERE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE I81ON 4/24/08 WITH THIS FORD WINDSTAR EXPERIENCED A FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLOW OUT. IT WAS A GOOD THING I WAS THE DRIVER AND NOT MY WIFE AS THIS COULD OF BEEN TRAGIC!! I QUICKLY PULLED IT ON THE HIGHWAYS SHOULDER AFTER TRAVELING AT 70 MPH. I REPLACED THE BLOWN TIRE WITH THE TEMPORARY SPARE. WE THEN PROCEEDED TO HAVE IT REPLACED. THE SEARS AUTO CENTER IN WINCHESTER, VA TOLD US THEY DID NOT CARRY THAT EXACT TIRE AND DID NOT HAVE ONE WITH THE SAME SPEED RATING AND CAN NOT LEGALLY INSTALL ONE THE DOESN'T MATCH THE REST. WE NEEDED TO GET HOME TO OUR TWO CHILDREN WHO WERE COMING HOME FROM SCHOOL, THEREFORE, WE WERE FORCED TO PURCHASE TWO NEW TIRES ALONG WITH FEES ASSOCIATED WITH DOING SO. WE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THIS TIRE BLOW OUT AND THE SEARS TECHNICIAN WAS BAFFLED AS HE SAID HE FOUND NO HOLES OR PUNCTURE IN THE BLOWN TIRE. THE TWO FRONT TIRES ARE NOW NEW AND THE TWO REAR TIRES WERE STILL IN PLACE FROM THE ORIGINAL 4 TIRE PURCHASE ON 1/6/07. ON 6/12/2008 WE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF TIRE PRESSURE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE AND THE TIRES VALVE STEM WAS HISSING FROM A SUDDEN CRACK THAT HAD FORMED. I HAD THE STEM REPLACED AT WALMART IN FRONT ROYAL, VA. ON 6/27/08 I HAD THE LAST OF THE ORIGINAL TIRES HAVE A SUDDEN VALVE STEM FAILURE CAUSING INSTANT PRESSURE LOSS. I WAS NOW SUSPECTING THE VALVE STEMS MUST HAVE A MAJOR FLAW AND REQUESTED THAT THE WALMART TECHNICIAN GIVE ME THE FAILED VALVE STEM AFTER HE REPLACED IT. AFTER I RETURNED HOME FROM GETTING THIS REPAIRED, I RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET FOR ANY TIRE VALVE STEM RECALLS AND I DISCOVERED THE TECH INTERNATIONAL RECALL UNDER YOUR INVESTIGATION CAMPAIGN ID 08T018000. I HAVE SAVED THIS REMAINING STEM WITH THE PART NUMBER DILL-ACP TR413 ON THE BASE. *TR
