TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH. THE LATCHES FOR BOTH DRIVER SIDE DOORS WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V494000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH) FOR THE ENVOY XL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000. UPDATED 01/11/08. *LJ THE FRONT DOOR LATCH ARE NOT STARTING TO FAIL. THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR FAILED. THE PINION SEAL WAS LEAKING AND THE TAILLIGHT CIRCUIT BOARD SHORTED OUT
2003 GMC ENVOY HAS CONTINUOUS MALFUNCTIONS IN THE OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRRORS. WHEN USING THE CURB ASSIST OPTION THE MIRRORS DO NOT RETURN TO THE ORIGINAL POSITION. WHEN OPTION IS TURNED OFF THE MIRRORS TURN UPWARD (TOWARD SKY) AFTER VEHICLE IS PUT INTO THE DRIVE POSITION. DEALER SAYS IT IS MY PROBLEM AND GMC SAID DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO WHEN I THREATENED TO CONTACT YOUR ORGANIZATION. *JB
GAS TANK BACK SPITS WHEN FILLING AT STATION...GOES ALL OVER GROUND REAR ACCESS WINDOW POPS OPEN WHEN DRIVING PASSENGER WINDOW MECHANISM BROKEN AND GLASS PIECES FORMED IN DOOR. MECHANISM FAILED TO RAISE AND LOWER THE WINDOW...CAUSING A GRINDING SOUND. REPLACEMENT WAS COSTLY AND UNECESSARY FOR ME THE CAR OWNER. SHOULD WORK FOR YEARS WITHOUT FAILURE. *JB
MAKING A U TURN IN AN "03 GMC ENVOY. POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF AUTOMOBILE. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 39,00 MILES ON IT. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PUMPING FUEL INTO THE TANK, GASOLINE WAS NOTICED DRIPPING UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THERE WAS A CRACK AT THE BASE OF THE FILLER PIPE AND THE TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
REAR HATCH COVER FOR 2003 GMC ENVOY XL, IN WINTER CLIMATES, SNOW THEN ICE COLLECTS AND IT CAN BREAK, POTENTIALLY COME OFF GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, COULD IT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT? HASN'T HAPPENED YET, BUT THEY STILL HAVE NOT CHANGED THE DESIGN, AND ACCORDING TO FORMER SERVICE WRITER AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP,THEY HAVE REPAIRED OR REPLACE SEVERAL. FIRST REPAIR CONSISTS OF USING ADHESIVE UNDER HATCH, DOESN'T LAST LONG. I CONSIDER IT A DESIGN DEFECT, THAT SHOULD BE CHANGED, AGAIN WOULD ONLY BE A PROBLEM IN WINTER CLIMATE AREAS. INCIDENT DATE IS DATE SCHEDULE FOR REPLACEMENT OF PART. *JB
THERE IS A RECALL ON ERRATIC WIPER OPERATION IN MY 2003 GMC ENVOY. BUT BECAUSE MY VIN NUMBER WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, THEY WILL NOT FIX IT. I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT, IF I WANT FIXED. SOMETIMES THE WIPERS DON'T SHUT OFF IF TOO MUCH MOISTURE GETS IN THE WIPER MODULE. SHOULD BE AN OPEN RECALL. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED, THERE HAVE BEEN FOUR FAILURES TO THE EXTERIOR TURN SIGNALS AS WELL AS THE BRAKE LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR A RECALL NOTICE WHERE THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL WAS ENGAGED BEFORE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN BUT THE EXTERIOR LIGHT WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE. THE FAILURE OF THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS RESULTED IN THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE BEING STRUCK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOORS CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE. NO POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. *AK
SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT WORKING. TOOK 2003 GMC ENVOY TO DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES WHEN IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND TECHNICIAN SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH SPEEDOMETER. HOWEVER, THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED ON 50 MPH WHEN TRUCKWAS SITTING STILL, SOMETIMES HIGHER NUMBER. CALLED GMC REGARDING THE SPEEDOMETER, NO CALL BACK, AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT. TRUCK IS CURRENT NOT UNDER WARRANTY. NOW HAVE TO PAY $800 OUT OF POCKET FOR REPAIRS. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED ON 10-14-04 BOTH REAR DOOR LATCHES WERE REPLACED BECAUSE THE DOORS WERE FAILING TO LOCK. IN 2-06 THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER CONCERNING THE LATCHES/LOCKS AND LINKAGES; NHTSA RECALL # 05V494000. ON 3-13-06 THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE WEATHER STRIPPING AROUND THE REAR DOORS AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE FOR CORROSION ON THE LATCHES. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THERE WAS NO CORROSION ON THE LATCHES. ON 4-8-06 WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, AS THE CONTACT WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR FLEW OPEN, CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR AND TO THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR. BOTH CHILD SAFETY LOCKS WERE ENGAGED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 4-08-06.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE PARKING BRAKE IS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THERE IS NO REPAIR AVAILABLE.
THE ENGINE ON MY 2003 ENVOY XL CAUGHT FIRE AND THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED BY THE FIRE. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER DRIVING UP A ROAD RISING 1500 VERTICAL FEET OVER A DISTANCE OF 3.5 MILES. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON BEFORE SOMEONE OUTSIDE THE CAR ALERTED US TO THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE HAD 36000 MILES ON IT AND HAD RECENTLY HAD ALL THE RECOMMENDED SERVICE COMPLETED INCLUDING OIL CHANGE AND TRANSMISSION AND FUEL SYSTEM FLUSHES. THE ONE ISSUE WHICH THE GMC DEALER HAD BEEN UNABLE TO FIX WAS A LEAK TO THE FRONT PINION SEAL. THE DEALER HAD THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS AND COULD FIND NO PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH A VERY REPUTABLE REPAIR SHOP HAD ALERTED US TO THE PROBLEM WHILE PERFORMING THE OTHER MAINTENANCE AND SUGGESTED THAT WE HAVE THE DEALER ADDRESS THE PROBLEM WHILE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. AFTER THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO I WAS TOLD BY A SERVICE MANAGER THAT HE DIDN'T WANT TO REPLACE THE SEAL BECAUSE IF IT WAS SOMETHING ELSE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A WASTE OF MONEY TO REPLACE THE SEAL. THE FIRE SEEMED TO ORIGINATE FROM A LOCATION A QUARTER OF THE WAY IN FROM THE PASSENGER BUMPER ABOUT AS FAR BACK AS THE TIRE. SINCE THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED WITHIN THE LAST TWELVE HOURS I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE CAUSE COULD BE. OUR INSURANCE AGENT'S CLAIMS ADJUSTER WILL BE LOOKING INTO THIS I'M SURE. THERE DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE ANY RECALL RELATED TO THIS ISSUE. WE HAD SEVEN PEOPLE IN THE CAR TODAY INCLUDING 3 CHILDREN AND 2 SENIOR CITIZENS. LUCKILY EVERYONE WAS ABLE TO GET OUT UNHARMED BUT WE HAD NO WARNING. HAD WE NOT BEEN IN A LOCATION WHERE SOMEONE SAW THE FIRE AND ALERTED US I DON'T KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. WHAT CAN WE DO TO FIND THE CAUSE AND MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE? *NM
SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON, SMALL EMISSIONS FUEL LEAK, DEALERSHIP WANTED TO REPLACE FUEL TANK, OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW, HOPING FOR RECALL. *NM
IT'S SEEMS CRAZY TO ME THAT THIS AGENCY THAT WAS CREATED TO PROTECT CONSUMERS FROM FAULTY VEHICLES CAN LET SO MANY COMPLAINTS AGAINST THIS MANUFACTURER THAT WAS BAILED OUT BY TAXPAYERS MONEY CAN BE SO BLIND TO THE GROSS NEGLIGENCE ON GMC PART. I HAVE SPENT COUNT LESS HOURS AND WAY TOO MUCH MONEY ON THIS VEHICLE, ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT MANY OTHER CONSUMERS ARE REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I HAVE LITERALLY SAT DOWN AND CRIED VOWING NEVER TO BY ANOTHER AMERICAN MADE CAR BECAUSE THEY ARE PIECES OF JUNK (AND THAT IS PUTTING IT NICELY). I HAVE PAID TO REPLACE THE OXYGEN SENSOR AND ALL THAT GOES WITH THAT; THE CATALYST CONVERTER TWICE; THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE AND NOW MY RADIO DOESN'T WORK BECAUSE THERE IS A SHORT THAT IS DRAINING THE BATTERY WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF; THE SPEED CONTROL (MPH/RPM) DOESN'T WORK AND I ONLY PRAY THAT I'M NOT SPEEDING WHILE I'M DRIVING; THE REAR WIPER BLADE WORKS WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT; MY CAR INTERIOR CONSTANTLY SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE AND WHEN I'M FILLING UP MY TANK IT THERE IS ALWAYS SPILLAGE; MY SES LIGHT CONSTANTLY STAYS ON AND SINCE MY STATE PRACTICES EMISSION CONTROL I HOLD MY BREATH AND PRAY THAT I PASS THE TEST SO I CAN LEGALLY DRIVE MY CAR. THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE PROBLEMS THAT I FACE WITH THIS CAR AND FRANKLY THIS YEAR I'M NOT WORKING SO COMING UP WITH THE MONEY TO PAY AGAIN TO HAVE A MECHANIC REMOVE THE SES LIGHT SO I CAN GO HAVE THE EMISSION TESTING PERFORMED IS RIDICULOUS AND DRAINING A WALLET THAT IS VERY MUCH EMPTY. MY CAR NOW HAS MORE MILEAGE & I HAVEN'T HEARD MY RADIO IN OVER 2 YEARS BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG SO THEY JUST DISCONNECTED IT. WHY HAVEN'T THE NHTSA/DOT REQUIRED GMC TO FIX WHAT THEY KNOW IS BROKEN AND A HAZARD ON THE ROADS? I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT THE NHTSA TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES CONTROL AND PEOPLE LIVES ARE LOST. DON'T LET THIS BECOME ANOTHER TOYOTA ISSUE. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO APPLY BRAKE PRESSURE AT 5 MPH OR LESS THE ENGINE STALLS WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALERSHIP WAS ALERTED. UPDATED 04/14/06. *JB
I TOOK MY 2003 GMC ENVOY TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE BACK LIFT GATE CHECKED BECAUSE I NOTICED THAT THE PLASTIC SHIELD ON TOP DID NOT SEEM TO BE ALIGNED CORRECTLY AND WHEN I OPEN THE LIFT GATE IT MAKES A CRACKING SOUND. I WAS INFORMED BY MY DEALER THAT THE BRACKETS THAT SECURE THE LIFT GATE ARE SEPARATING AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE NOT HAD A CRASH OR INJURY YET RELATED TO THIS. *NM
LIFT GATE, UPPER MOLDING CRACKED WHEN OPENING BACK HATCH WINDOW. POORLY DESIGNED, CONTACTED GMC BASICALLY MY PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH LOCAL GMC DEALER HAS TO REPLACE SEVERAL OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS. ALSO ANY VIBRATION FROM THE ROAD CAUSES THE WINDOW AND OR GATE TO COME UNLATCHED WHILE DRIVING. SPOKE TO GMC IN REGARDS TO THAT AND I ALSO CHECKED FOR RECALLS. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED IN 2006 ITS A 2003 GMC 4X4 SLT XL 8-5.3L. *TR
1. NORMAL WINTER DRIVING IN NORTHEASTERN OHIO. 2. ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED TO OPERATE. THE RESULT WAS IMMEDIATE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING IT TO SLIDE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON A RURAL COUNTRY ROAD WHERE IT WAS STRUCK BY AN ON COMING CAR. 3. THE CAR IS TOTALED AS ASSESSED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY, NO REPAIRS MADE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. UPON DRIVING OUT OF TOWN FOR A FEW HOURS THE SPEEDOMETER READ 120 MPH IN PARK. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE ORIGINAL GMC DEALERSHIP AND SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY DETERMINED IT WAS THE CLUSTER THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND THAT IT WOULD BE 6-8 WEEKS UNTIL THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE BECAUSE IT WAS ON BACK ORDER DUE TO THE HIGH VOLUME OF ENVOYS AND YUKONS THAT CLUSTERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT FELT THAT IF A NUMBER OF GMC VEHICLES HAD FAULTY CLUSTERS THEN PERHAPS IT SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR AT LEAST FOR SUB STANDARD REASONS, IF NOT FOR SAFETY REASONS. *AK
I HAVE A 2003 GMC ENVOY XL 6 CYLINDER. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW. ALWAYS SERVICED AND ONLY HIGHWAY MILES. MY TRANSMISSION GETS STUCK INTO 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. IT COSTS ME $2300 TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. NO SUPPORT FROM DEALER OR GMC. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE REDUCE POWER ENGINE AND OIL PRESSURE LOW, CHECK ENGINE IGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE STOPPED, ALTHOUGH, THE ENGINEWAS STILL RUNNING. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM, BUT REPLACED THE TANK GASKET, GAS PEDAL, AND COMPUTER CHIP. THIS CAUSED THE CONTACT TO REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE. *AK
I WAS MAKING A SLOW LEFT HAND TURN FROM A STOP SIGN AND MY 2003 GMC ENVOY DRIVE TRAIN HAD LOCKED UP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A DEAD STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WHEN THIS OCCURRED I NOTICED THE LIGHTS FLASHING FOR THE 4WD AND 4LO SWITCH EVEN THOUGH THE SWITCH HAD NOT BEEN TOUCHED. THE VEHICLE CORRECTED ITSELF AND 15 SEC LATER AS I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN INTO MY DRIVEWAY THE VEHICLE DRIVE TRAIN LOCKED UP ONCE AGAIN. TO REMEDY THIS I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNK AND THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AND OPERATION WENT BACK TO NORMAL. *NM
LEFT REAR DOOR LATCH DOES NOT RELEASE 100% OF THE TIME, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN DOOR FROM OUTSIDE. *NM
I OPENED UP MY HATCHBACK AND HEARD A NOISE LIKE SOMETHING IS BREAKING. I CLOSED THE HATCHBACK AND LOOKED ABOVE TO SEE IF THERE WAS SOMETHING STUCK ABOVE IN THE HATCHBACK DOOR. THERE WAS NOTHING THERE AND NOTHING FOUND TO BE BROKEN. I AGAIN TRIED TO OPEN IT AND AGAIN HEARD A CLICKING, CRACKING, BREAKING TYPE NOISE. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT. ALTHOUGH I HAD JUST BOUGHT MY CAR THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR THIS BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED BY MY WARRANTY BECAUSE IT IS CONSIDERED "COSMETIC". I WAS TOLD THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE HINGES THAT HOLD THE DOOR. THAT DOES NOT SOUND COSMETIC. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE DOOR COULD FALL OFF AT ANYTIME (NOT SURE IF THIS IS TRUE OR A SCARE TACTIC TO GET ME TO SPEND BIG BUCKS TO GET IT FIXED) BUT THAT ALSO DOES NOT SOUND LIKE SOMETHING COSMETIC. IT SOUNDS MUCH MORE SERIOUS TO ME AND I AM PRETTY UPSET THAT THEY ARE NOT RECALLING THIS SINCE IT SEEMS LIKE A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT I WAS TOLD IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN MY TYPE OF VEHICLE. *JB
BOTH REAR WINDOWS DROPPED OPEN WITHOUT REASON OR CAUSE DURING HIGHWAY OPERATION. FIRST WINDOW WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, SECOND FAILURE OCCURRED OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. *JB
I HAD A FLAT TIRE AND WENT TO USE THE GMC PROVIDED JACK AND SPARE TIRE. THE JACK WAS HELD IN BY A LARGE RUBBER BAND THAT BROKE AS SOON AS I STARTED TO REMOVE IT. WHEN I WENT TO LOWER THE SPARE TIRE DOWN I HEARD A "CRUNCH" COME FROM THE GEAR END OF THE SPARE TIRE PULLEY. THE SPARE TIRE PULLEY, WHICH WAS MADE OF PLASTIC, BROKE INTO PIECES AND WOULDN'T ALLOW THE TIRE TO BE LOWERED ANYMORE OR RAISED. GMC SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR PROVIDING SUCH A LOUSY SYSTEM ON SOMETHING THAT IS OBVIOUSLY USED IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. NICE WAY TO SAVE A FEW DOLLARS. *NM
CAR: GMC ENVOY 2003 WHEN DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. "REDUCED POWER" LIGHT CAME ON TOO. ENGINE RPMS DROPPED DOWN TO 1100. BARELY AVOIDED CRASH. *JB MADE IT TO THE PARKING LOT. RESTARTED ENGINE FEW TIMES SAME PROBLEM. EXECUTED "CLEAR CHANGE OIL LIGHT" PROCEDURE FEW TIMES. IT CLEARED "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT AND EVERYTHING IS NORMAL NOW. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH "CHANGE OIL" TIMER AND LIGHT. IT APPEARS THAT WHEN TIMER EXPIRED THE COMPUTER RATHER THAN TURNING "CHANGE OIL" LIGHT ON ENABLES "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT AND DRASTICALLY REDUCES ENGINE POWER. WHEN IT HAPPENS ON A HIGHWAY IT CAN EASILY LEAD TO A CRASH. I PLAN TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP IN TWO DAYS. THANK YOU.
WE HAVE A 2003 GMC ENVOY XL. OUR CHECK ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. WE BROUGHT IT INTO SERVICE TWICE AND EACH TIME WE LEFT THEY SAID FIXED, BUT SOON THEREAFTER THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. WE WERE TOLD THEY REPLACED THE GAS CAP. WE NOTICE THAT WHEN WE GO TO FILL WITH GAS THERE IS NO WHOOSING SOUND WHEN WE REMOVE THE GAS CAP, AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FILL WITH GAS. THE PUMP KEEPS CLICKING OFF LIKE IT IS FULL. SOME TIMES IT TAKE 20 MINUTES TO FUEL THE AUTO. WE ALWAYS SMELL THE ODOR OF GASOLINE. IF WE DRIVE AND STOP SOMEWHERE, WHEN WE GET OUT YOU CAN SMELL THE GASOLINE. *NM
THE VEHICLE WAS IN SERVICE 3 TIMES WITHIN 14 DAYS, GM SAYS THE PROBLEM WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH, I SAY THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. ENGINE STALLED 6 TIMES IN MOVING TRAFFIC, THE "ABS" WARNING LIGHT IS ON, SOME TIME THE "CHECK ENGINE SOON" LIGHT COMES ON. DEALER REPLACES THROTTLE BODY INJECTION ASSEMBLY. NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE STALLS AGAIN WITH SAME SYMPTOMS. DEALER REPLACED IGNITION SWITCH AGAIN. !4 HOURS LATER ENGINE STALLS IN MOVING TRAFFIC. DEALER INSTALLS EVENT RECORDING DEVICE, ENGINE STALLS AND IDENTIFIED LOW IGNITION VOLTAGE (6.7 VS 13.6 VDC). SOURCE OF PROBLEM COULD NOT BE IDENTIFIED, DEALER SAYS VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2003 GMC ENVOY SLT, 2WD, AND I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES FOR A PROBLEM WHICH I CONSIDER AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD. MY VEHICLE HAS NOW FAILED FOR A 4TH TIME AND THE DEALER REFUSES TO ADMIT THAT THEY CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE LOSES POWER AS I AM ACCELERATING ON TO HIGHWAYS AND I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT BY TRUCKS ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS PULLING OUT ON TO A HIGHWAY AS I AM UNABLE TO GO OVER ABOUT 10 MPH AND HAVE TO PULL OFF THE ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS IN FOR A THIRD TIME FOR THAT SAME PROBLEM BACK IN JANUARY. THE DEALER HAD IT FOR A WEEK AND PUT OVER 400 MILES ON MY VEHICLE TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE SAME PROBLEM IS HAPPENING AGAIN, 6 TIMES IN 3 DAYS, AND THE SERVICE MANAGER WILL NOT ADMIT ITS THE SAME PROBLEM SINCE SO MUCH TIME HAS ELAPSED. AFTER I LOSE POWER, MY "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" AND MY "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHTS COME ON. I MUST PULL OVER AND TURN MY ENGINE COMPLETELY OFF AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN. THE "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" LIGHT GOES OUT BUT THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT REMAINS ON. THE FIRST TWO TIMES THE DEALER HAD THE VEHICLE I DO NOT BELIEVE THEY REPLACED ANY PARTS AS THEY FELT IT WAS A COMPUTER PROBLEM. THE THIRD TIME THEY HAD THE VEHICLE THEY DID REPLACE SOME PART, BUT IT WAS NEVER FULLY EXPLAINED TO ME WHAT THEY REPLACED. I HAVE A 2003 GMC ENVOY XL. I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY REPLACE HEAD LAMP BULBS AS THEY CONTINUOUSLY BURN OUT. I ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE TURN SIGNAL. IF I HAVE THE HEAT ON, THE SIGNAL WON'T BLINK - JUST LIGHTS UP. I AM USING TODAY'S DATE ALTHOUGH THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE LATE NOVEMBER. I ALSO HAD THE PROBLEM WITH THE BACK DOORS AND HAD TO REPLACE THE LATCH ON ONE OF THE DOORS IN SEPTEMBER AND I CAN FEEL IT GOING ON THE OTHER DOOR AS WELL. *JB
I HAVE A GMC ENVOY 4WD, ON 2 OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE HAS LOCKED THE GEAR INTO 4WD AND 4HI. VEHICLE WILL NOT RESPOND TO COMMAND TO SHIFT GEARS TO NORMAL DRIVING IN 2WD. IN TURN THIS LEADS TO PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE BRAKING SYSTEM--VEHICLE TAKES TOO LONG TO STOP DURING NORMAL BRAKING. THE VEHICLE ALSO BECOMES VERY UNSTABLE ON THE ROAD--KEEPS SHIFTING SIDES MAKING HARD TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN A STRAIGHT ALIGNMENT DURING DRIVING. I HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY A GMC AUTHORIZED DEALER IN NOVEMBER, 2005 AT WHICH POINT THEY FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSFER CASE WHICH CAUSES IT TO BREAK APART. THIS IN TURN CAUSES ALL THE OTHER SYSTEMS IN THE VEHICLE TO MALFUNCTION BECAUSE IT'S A COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM. THE TRANSFER CASE WAS REPLACED WHICH TEMPORARILY FIXED THE PROBLEM UNTIL FEB, 2006 AND THE SAME PROBLEM RECURRED. I HAVE MADE GMC AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THEY REFERRED ME TO THE DEALER. ON SPEAKING WITH THE DEALER I BECAME AWARE THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH GMC ENVOY AND THE DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE ONLY WAY GMC IS RESOLVING THE PROBLEM IS REFERRING CUSTOMERS TO THE DEALER FOR A REPLACEMENT ON THE TRANSFER CASE--WHICH HAPPENS TO BE THE SAME ONE THAT KEEPS MALFUNCTIONING. AT THIS POINT GMC DOES NOT HAVE A DIFFERENT TRANSFER CASE THAT WILL RESOLVE THE ISSUE ONCE AND FOR ALL. GMC IS ALSO WILLING TO FIX YOUR VEHICLE AS LONG AS IT'S UNDER WARRANTY BUT ONCE IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSFER CASE PERSIST, YOU HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. GMC IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSFER CASE BUT THEY ARE NOT LETTING THE CONSUMERS KNOW. *NM
ELECTRONIC PROBLEM WITH 4WD WAS SUPPOSEDLY CORRECTED IN 2004, TRANSFER CASE FOR 4WD WAS REPLACED IN APRIL 2005, AND 4WD FAILED AGAIN DURING FIRST DAY TRYING TO USE IT DURING ICY CONDITIONS AFTER IT WAS "REPAIRED" IN APRIL. HAD TO DRIVE ON DANGEROUS, SLICK ROADS WITHOUT 4WD FROM FAIRBANKS TO PALMER, AK. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IN ALASKA WHERE WINTER DRIVING CAN BE VERY HAZARDOUS WITHOUT 4WD. HAVE HAD IT INTO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR LOUD SQUEAK UNDER VEHICLE WHEN MAKING TURNS OR GOING OVER BUMPS AT SLOW SPEEDS. NO CORRECTIVE ACTION BY DEALER. COULD NOT GET VEHICLE OUT OF "PARK". HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THEY DISCONNECTED SOMETHING AND TOLD ME TO BE CAREFUL BECAUSE WHATEVER THEY DID WOULD ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO BE PUT INTO "DRIVE" WITHOUT HAVING BRAKES ENGAGED! HAD TO DRIVE IT THIS WAY FOR SEVERAL WEEKS UNTIL THEY GOT REPLACEMENT PART. HAVE HAD OTHER PROBLEMS WITH CLIMATE CONTROL, WIND NOISE AROUND WINDOWS, AND MORE. NONE REPAIRED SATISFACTORILY. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE JACK THAT THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH IS INADEQUATE. THE JACK HAS TWO EXTENSION HANDLES, BUT THE EXTENSION HANDLES ARE NOT LONG ENOUGH TO BE TURNED WITHOUT GETTING UNDER THE VEHICLE. HAD A FLAT TIRE, AND WHEN THE CONTACT PUT THE JACK TOGETHER SHE REALIZED THE JACK HANDLES WERE NOT LONG ENOUGH. HER FATHER HAD TO CRAWL UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE TO USE THE HANDLE. CALLED THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT THE JACK HANDLES ,AND THEY STATED THE JACK SHOULD BE EFFICIENT, AND IF A PERSON HAD TO GET UNDER THE VEHICLE, HE WOULD NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR FLEW OPEN AND WOULD NOT CLOSE. THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP DETERMINED THERE WAS CORROSION ON THE DOOR LATCH FROM ROAD SALT BUILD UP. THE DOOR LATCH WAS REPLACED. THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR REQUIRED MORE FORCE TO OPEN. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V494000, REGARDING THE DOOR LATCHES. THE VEHICLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN HE TRIED TO PULL THE REAR CENTER SEAT BELT IT ONLY CAME OUT ABOUT THREE INCHES AND STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED. THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY. HE NOTICED THE PROBLEM A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO WHEN HE WAS TRYING TO MOVE A CHILD SAFETY SEAT OVER. TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEY SAID NOT TO FILL UP MORE THAN HALF WAY. THE FUMES COULD CAUSE AN EXPLOSION. DEALER HAD TO ORDER THE TANK. DT: WHILE DRIVING AT 35-40 MPH VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND THE STEERING WAS NOT OPERATING . THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO THE VEHICLE AT ALL. THIS OCCURRED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS DONE AND THE RESULT SHOWED THE NEED TO DO AN UPDATE OF SOFTWARE FOR THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE ( ECM) AND THE POWER TRAIN, IN GENERAL. I HAVE A 2003 GMC ENVOY. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY OUTSIDE MIRRORS MOVING WILDLY UPON STARTING OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT I HAVE HAD WITH MY OUTSIDE MIRRORS. NOW THE DRIVER MIRROR IS DOING THE SAME THING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO STATED "MIRROR MOTORS" NEED REPLACED FOR ABOUT $314. 2003 ENVOY SLE HATCH DOOR LIFT SYSTEM FAILED.*MR AS A RESULT THE HATCH WAS EXTREMELY HEAVY AND HARD TO OPEN. *NM
SINCE WE HAVE THIS VEHICLE THE HEATING SYSTEM FAILS TO WORK PROPERLY. WE HAVE REPEATEDLY HAD THE DEALER AND A G.M. REPRESENTATIVE TRY TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. AFTER THEIR ATTEMPTS THE SYSTEM STILL DOESN'T OPERATE CORRECTLY AND NOW I AM LEFT WITH A DEFECTIVE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM THAT ONLY WORKS SOMETIMES. I AM HEARING FROM OTHER PEOPLE THAT KNOW WHO HAVE THIS VEHICLE AND THE CHEVROLET VERSION THE TRAILBLAZER THAT THEY HAVE VERY SIMILAR PROBLEMS. IN THE WRONG CIRCUMSTANCES NOT HAVING HEAT/DEFROSTER WORKING PROPERLY COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD, YET THIS FAILS TO BECOME A RECALL OR ALERT TO DRIVERS. AS FAR AS THE A/C PROBLEMS MY SON ACTUALLY GOT HEAT STROKE IN THE BACK OF THE CAR ON A VERY HOT DAY DUE TO THE FACT THAT ONLY VENT WINDOWS OPEN IN THIS AREA AND UNLESS THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION IT BECOMES VERY HOT IN THE THIRD ROW OF SEATS IN THIS VEHICLE IF THE AIR IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. G.M. SHOULD FIX THESE VEHICLES! I HAVE REPORTED MY PROBLEMS TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND I AM HOPING TO RETURN THIS VEHICLE TO G.M. EARLY. THIS CAR HAS ALSO HAD NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE RADIO. I FEEL THAT SINCE THEY TRIED TO FIX THE HEATER THEY HAVE SCREWED UP SOMETHING ELSE IN THE ELECTRIC SINCE THEY HAD TO REGROUND THE WHOLE SYSTEM AND THIS GROUND HAS ALREADY HAD TO BE REGROUND DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT DISENGAGED ITSELF FROM THE VEHICLE, DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A SAFE REPAIR TO ME. *JB

I LIVE IN ARIZONA WHERE IT IS HOT AND DRY. I WAS COMING HOME FROM THE MALL WITH MY 2 CHILDREN ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN I HAD THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE BLOW OUT. I WAS STRANDED ON THE EXPRESSWAY FOR AN HOUR WITH 2 SMALL CHILDREN. MY VEHICLE IS FAIRLY NEW - 2003 GMC ENVOY XL AND THERE IS ONLY 38,000 MILES ON THE TIRES. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK CAME TO CHANGE OUT THE TIRE THEY INDICATED THAT IT WAS VERY UNUSUAL FOR A MICHELIN TIRE TO BLOW THE RADIALS LIKE IT DID. I HAVE MODEL P245/65R17. I STILL HAVE THE TIRE AVAILABLE, BUT NOW AM HAVING TO HAVE BOTH REAR TIRES REPLACED SO THEY WEAR EVENLY AND I SEE THAT SOME MODELS SIMILAR TO MINE 245/75R16 HAVE BEEN RECALLED. I HAVE NOT REPLACED THE TIRE YET, BECAUSE I AM HOPEING SOMEONE CAN GIVE ME SOME INSIGHT TO THE PROBLEM AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF I SHOULD HAVE ALL THE TIRES REPLACED NOT JUST THE REAR ONES.
