I OWN A 2003 GMC ENVOY XL AND AT TIMES SMELL STRONG GAS FUMES WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. *TR
SMELLED FUEL FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. IT GRADUALLY GOT WORSE, FROM JUST SMELLING IT WHEN I WAS OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE TO SMELLING INSIDE. TOOK TO GM DEALERSHIP IN TOWN. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. IT HAD CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT WHEN FUEL WAS PUMPING IT PUMPED FUEL ONTO THE TOP OF THE TANK. $750.00 WAS THE BILL. *TR
2 COMPLAINTS NOTICED ENGINEE RUNNING HOT, ADDED FLUID TO RADIATOR, NEAR EMPTY. A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER, SAME THING. 3 MONTHS LATER, DURING OIL CHANGE, MECHANIC INDICATED WHILE DOING CHECKS THAT THE RADIATOR FLUID WAS LOW. TOLD HIM THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME, HE ADDED FLUID, PRESSURE CHECKED RADIATOR - NO HOLES OR LEAKS. SEEMS TO BE EVAPORATING. AIR CONDITIONER BLOWING HOT AIR (EXCLUDING THE FACT THE PANEL WITH AC CONTROLS QUICK WORKING A LOOOONNG TIME AGO). TOOK IN TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER $600 AND ALL DAY VISIT WITH DEALER, THE PIECE BROKEN WAS THE SIZE OF A 2"-4" BLOCK OF PLASTIC. THIS LITTLE PIECE JUST QUICK WORKING, IT WAS REFERRED AS A CONTROL SWITCH OF SOME SORT UNDER THE DASH BOARD. SOUNDED KINDA HOKEY TO ME - I CAN IMAGINE A COMPRESSOR GOING OUT AND YOU DO NOT HAVE COLD AIR - THE NAME OF IT ESCAPES ME - BUT THE MECHANIC DID INDICATE THERE WAS SOME SORT OF TECHNICAL REPORT OUT THERE ON IT AS WELL. JUST FOUND OUT FROM HUSBAND THE NAME OF THE PIECE - THE ACTUATOR DOOR QUIT. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY XL. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS AN OVERPOWERING ODOR OF GASOLINE FORM THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO OBSERVED FUEL LEAKING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE AT THE FUEL TANK. THE DEALER VERIFIED THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK BUT REFUSED SERVICE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE HE WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THEY WOULD RETURN HIS CALL WITH A DECISION IF THEY WOULD ASSIST WITH REPAIRS OR ALLOW REPAIRS UNDER HIS EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 135,000.
BLOWER MOTOR STAYED ON WHEN VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF. WOULD DRAIN BATTERY. DEALER REPLACED BLOWER CONTROL MODULE. $246.20 BILL OF REPAIRS. *AK
2003 GMC ENVOY XL, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, SMELL OF FUEL, AND LEAK WHEN PARKED ON HILL. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER. IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT REPLACED FUEL TANK, $979.11 REPAIR BILL. VEHICLE HAD 74,980 MILES ON IT AND HAD PROBLEMS FOR APPROXIMATELY 18,000 MILES BEFORE HAVING IT FIXED... DEALERSHIP SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM BEING POSSIBLY EPIDEMIC. *AK
TL*CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MODULE. THERE WAS A POTENTIAL FOR WATER TO LEAK IN. WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 20,000 MILES, THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. AT 60,000 WHEN USING THE WINDSHIELD WIPER WASHER, IT CONTINUED TO ENGAGE UNTIL THE PUMP BURNED OUT. THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MODULE WAS DISCONNECTED. HE CALLED GM STATED AND TOLD THEM THAT WHEN THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED THE MECHANIC SEALED MOISTURE IN AND IT CORRODED. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT IT CORRODED AND NEEDED TO REPLACE THE WIPER MODULE. THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR IT AGAIN AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. THE DEALER INFORMATION IS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 75,000. UPDATED 11/1/07 *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED INACCURATE READINGS. THE CONTACT COULD NOT DETERMINE HOW FAST HE WAS TRAVELING. ALL THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WERE ALSO MALFUNCTIONING. THE FAILURES HAVE BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
WHILE TRAVELING AT OR LESS THAN 35 MPH, ON BRIGHT SUNNY DAY AND ON DRY PAVEMENT VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LET IT UP AND PRESSED IT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN WITHOUT SUCCESS. ON THIRD ATTEMPT JAMMED THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND THE ENTIRE CAR LOCKED UP. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULDN'T TURN, AT LEAST ONE WHEEL LOCKED, HIT THE CAR THAT WAS STOPPED AT THE STOP LIGHT. EVEN AFTER STOPPING ONLY THE SERVICE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT AND THE STOP ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE BRAKE PEDAL REMAINED TO THE FLOOR , AND I COULDN'T NOT SHIFT INTO PARK UNTIL AFTER JAMMING ON THE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES. 9000 IN DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING THE FRAME HAD TO BE PULLED, AND YET THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. 4OOO MILES TO THE OTHER VEHICLE. I HAVE A 2003 GMC ENVOY AND THERE IS A GAS LEAK. I BOUGHT IT IN OCTOBER 2006. IN 2007, I TOOK IT TO A GMC DEALERSHIP FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THEY SAID THAT IT WAS PROBABLY CAUSED BY MY NOT TIGHTENING THE GAS CAP. SINCE THEN, I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH PUMPING GAS INTO TANK, PROBLEMS WITH A GAS SMELL WHEN THE TANK IS FILLED OR IF I GO OVER A BUMP. NOW, THERE IS REDUCED POWER. HUSBAND SAYS IT IS ON FUEL FILLER NECK. ON SEVERAL WEB PAGES, IT SAYS THERE WAS A RECALL ONLY I AM UNABLE TO FIND ANY INFORMATION ON IT. A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM, WHY HAS IT NOT BEEN RECALLED? I CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER VEHICLE AND WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET IN A CRASH. WE HAVE 5 KIDS THAT I DRIVE AROUND. *TR
LEFT REAR DOOR LATCH FAILED,WHILE BEING REPLACED, I WAS INFORMED RIGHT LATCH LOOKED AS BAD. I PAID $542 FOR THESE. WHEN I CONTACTED GMC THEY TOLD ME THE SEALS HAD BEEN REPLACED AND SUPPOSEDLY THE LATCHES LOOKED OK THEN AND NO I'M SORRY,OLD PARTS ARE UNAVAILABLE. *JB
I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE BECAUSE IT FAILED EMISSION TESTING AND THE REPAIR SHOP TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE SEEN SEVERAL VEHICLES LIKE MINE WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM. I FOUND THAT YOUR NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE07014 IS THE PROBLEM THAT THE REPAIR SHOP FOUND. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE INVESTIGATION INTO THIS IS STILL OPEN. THE REPAIR SHOP TOLD ME TO CONTACT THE GMC DEALER BECAUSE THEY FELT THAT THE DEALER SHOULD STAND BEHIND THE PROBLEM AND IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. WILL THIS BECOME A RECALL ISSUE AND WILL THE DEALER NEED TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK AT THEIR EXPENSE? *JB
THE SIDE-MIRRORS, PARTICULARLY ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, MOVED TO DIFFERENT POSITIONS EVEN WITH ALL CURB PARKING FEATURES DISABLED. THE HAPPENED WITH ALMOST EVERY USE. 2. THE SPEEDOMETER GAVE FALSE READINGS AND FOR NO PARTICULAR REASON OR SPEED. IT MAY BE PEGGED AT 120 WHILE AT IDLE. IT WILL RANDOMLY RESET OR FAIL FREQUENTLY.*AK
AFTER HAVING SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH MY 2003 GMC ENVOY XL SUCH AS BROKEN WINDOW, 4 WD BROKEN, AND MANY OTHER PROBLEMS I NOTICED A HUMMING NOISE. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE SERVICED ALONG WITH A BAD SWITCH IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR PANEL AND WAS TOLD THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL IS BAD. IT IS BEING FIXED NOW, BUT WAS TOLD BY SEVERAL OTHER MECHANICS THAT THIS SORT OF THING SHOULDN'T HAPPEN TO A NEW CAR AND GENERALLY THE DIFFERENTIAL SHOULD LAST THE LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE. *JB
FUEL PUMP MODULE (FUEL SENDING UNIT) CORRODES AND LEAKS FUEL. AND GIVE FAULTY READING AT THE GAS READING GAUGE. NOT ABLE TO CHECK IF TANK IS EMPTY. *JB
2003 GMC ENVOY XL FUEL LEAK, MY 2003 ENVOY XL DEVELOPED A SMELL OF GAS, BECAME STRONGER AS TIME WENT BY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A GMC DEALER, WHO FOUND THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS LEAKING BECAUSE OF CORROSION. WE HAD TO HAVE THE FUEL PUMP MODULE REPLACED AT A COST OF $953.10. THE VEHICLE HAD 40,754 MILES ON IT, AND IS 4 YEARS OLD. THE OLD PART IS NOT AVALIABLE, THE DEALER KEPT IT (MIKE SMITH BUICK GMC TRANSIT ROAD LOCKPORT N.Y.)
SPEEDOMETER FAILURE DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING. *JB
ON 2/15/07 I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AT APPROXIMATELY 50MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING WENT OUT, BRAKES LOCKED UP, ALL GAUGES WENT ERRATIC BOUNCING FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND THE HEATER STARTED BLOWING COLD AIR UPON THIS HAPPENING I NEARLY WENT INTO A CREEK HOWEVER STRUGGLING DID MANAGE TO SAFELY GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN A DITCH. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER WHEN UPON DIAGNOSIS THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH HAD FAILED AND ALL OF THE ABOVE COMPONENTS WERE TIED INTO THE SWITCH. I AT MY OWN EXPENSE HAD THE IGNITION REPLACED AND THE RPM GAUGE STILL DOES NOT WORK. I CONTACTED GMC THE VERY DAY OF THE INCIDENT TO MAKE THEM AWARE OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE ONLY TO BE BOUNCED AROUND TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT OFFICES, NONE OF WHICH HAVE MADE THIS SAFETY ISSUE A TOP PRIORITY. I HAVE NOTATED EVERY CONVERSATION WITH EVERY PERSON THAT I HAVE SPOKEN TO AND WHAT WAS SAID. I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO TAKE THE LEGAL ROUTE, HOWEVER I AM PREPARED TO DO SO. WHEN IGNITION SWITCHES FAIL IT SHOULD NOT SHUT DOWN A VEHICLE IN THE MANNER THAT IT DOES. ALTHOUGH I WAS SUCCESSFUL AT NOT BEING INJURED OR INJURING ANYONE ELSE THAT WILL NOT ALWAYS BE THE CASE IN THIS TYPE OF FAILURE. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. WHILE IDLING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE GAS TANK WAS CRACKED ON THE VEHICLE. A GEICO REPRESENTATIVE ASSESSED THE DAMAGE AND STATED THAT THE CRACKED GAS TANK WAS THE RESULT OF SAFETY RECALL # 02V121000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS). THE REAR BUMPER AND HITCH WERE DAMAGED DUE TO THE CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 42,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2003 GMC ENVOY. THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL ON SOME 2003 GMC ENVOYS REGARDING A TURN SIGNAL DEFECT NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V198000. WITH 286,478 POTENTIAL VEHICLES AFFECTED. I TOOK MY CAR IN AND IT IS NOT WITHIN THE VIN RANGE OF AFFECTED VEHICLES. ALTHOUGH MY VEHICLE DOSES INDEED HAVE THE INTERMITTENT INCORRECT TURN SIGNAL PROBLEM, GMC IS REFUSING TO HAVE IT FIXED BECAUSE OF MY VIN.*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY. WHILE DRIVING 19 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. SHE STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT DID NOT RESTRAIN HER DURING THE CRASH. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A CONCUSSION, WHIPLASH, AND MULTIPLE CONTUSIONS. THE MANUFACTURER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, BUT WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 29,000.
A CRACKING HAS OCCURRED WHERE THE GASOLINE FILLER TUBE CONNECTS TO THE TANK. THAT CAUSED A VACUUM LEAK, WHICH CAUSED THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. DEALERSHIP HAS DIAGNOSED, AND CONFIRMED CRACKING AND ADVISED GASOLINE LEAKING COULD OCCUR AND RECOMMENDS REPLACING TANK. 1.VACUUM LEAK RENDERS GASOLINE TANK EMISSIONS SYSTEM INEFFICIENT. 2. IF GASOLINE LEAK OCCURS, IT IS THEN A FIRE HAZARD. THE DEALERSHIP COMMUNICATED TO US, HE HAS SEEN SIMILAR FAILURES IN THAT VEHICLE MODEL (GMC ENVOY). *NM
GAS TANK FAILED. HAD TO REPLACE AT A COST OF OVER $1000 ON 2003 GMC ENVOY. HAVE GAS TANK WHICH FAILED - WAS RETRIEVED FROM DEALER WHEN CAR WAS PICK UP IF NHTSA IS INTERESTED. SHOULD NOT HAVE TO REPLACE A GAS TANK. *NM
GASOLINE ODOR OUTSIDE AND INSIDE VEHICLE. DEALER FOUND SEVERE CORROSION OF FUEL PUMP MODULE, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT. THEY STATED IT WAS A COMMON FAILURE AND HAD MANY PRIOR EXAMPLES. *JB
GMC ENVOY 55,000 MILES, SPEEDOMETER NO LONGER WORKS. ERRATIC BEHAVIOR, VARYING FROM REPORTING SPEED OF 30 MPH AT IDLE, TO 0 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. *JB
THE PLASTIC GAS TANK ON MY 2003 ENVOY XL IS CRACKED AT THE NECK GOING INTO THE TANK RELEASING GAS AND GAS FUMES. GAS IS LEAKING FROM THE CRACK AND COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO CATCH FIRE AND/OR EXPLODE. *NM
I HAVE A 2003 GMC ENVOY XL. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD A MECHANIC HOOK HIS COMPUTER UP TO THE VEHICLE. THE CODE IT GAVE WAS A BAD GAS CAP. HE REPLACED THE GAS CAP AND RESET THE COMPUTER. TWO WEEKS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. I ALSO SMELLED GAS AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK AND NOTICED GAS ON MY GARAGE FLOOR. I AM HAVING THE GAS TANK DROPPED AND CHECKED THIS WEEKEND. I WONDER HOW MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM? *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS IN RAINY WET ROAD CONDITIONS, THE WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM WOULD NOT TURN OFF, ONCE ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE MUST BE STOPPED AND TURNED OFF, IN ORDER TO TURN OFF THE WIPERS. THE PROBLEM ONLY OCCURRED DURING RAINY CONDITIONS. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL, #04V046000, REGARDING THE VISIBILITY: WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER. THE SERVICE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED, AND DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN THAT THE WIPER PROBLEM COULD WORSENED AND POSE A RISK TO SAFETY.
DASH INDICATOR LIGHTS COME ON AND STAY ON WHEN TEMPERATURES ARE COLD, MOSTLY AIR BAG, ABS, PARKING BRAKE LIGHT, ALL GAUGES DO NOT WORK EXCEPT SPEEDOMETER. THIS PROBLEM HAS NO TREND OTHER THAN WHEN IT IS COLD OUTSIDE, COULD BE COINCIDENTAL. AT TIMES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON WITH OTHER LIGHTS. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD 18,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS STARTED, BUT THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY WAS OVER. GMC WILL NOT TROUBLESHOOT THIS PROBLEM UNLESS I PAY THEM ALMOST $100 TO START, AND THEN A HOURLY FEE. AT TIMES, THESE CONDITIONS EXIST AND THEN LATER THE INSTRUMENTS START WORKING. DOES NOT SEEM TO CORRELATE TO VEHICLE TEMPERATURE. LIGHTS OFTEN STAY ON DURING ENTIRE TRIP AND GAUGES ARE ALL OFF. WHEN EVERYTHING SUDDENLY STARTS WORKING CORRECTLY IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE BECAUSE OF A BUMP OR WARMING OF THE VEHICLE. IN DECEMBER I TOOK VEHICLE TO GMC, AND THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE INDICATED PROBLEMS ON WORK ORDER. HE PUT CHECK BATTERY, OF COURSE NO TROUBLESHOOTING TOOK PLACE. SINCE THEN I HAVE CONTACTED SEVERAL GMC DEALERSHIPS, THEY ALL WANT RIDICULOUS FEES TO CHECK IT OUT. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN KEPT IN THE HEATED GARAGE AND BARELY DRIVEN UNTIL JANUARY 2007. I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF IT COULD CAUSE A FIRE IN THE WIRING. WHEN THE GAUGES ARE OUT, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO SEE HOW MUCH GAS YOU HAVE OR IF OIL/WATER IS LOW. THERE IS NO WAY TO MONITOR THE FUNCTIONING OF THE VEHICLE, OR THE AIR BAGS OR THE BRAKE SYSTEM. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE LOOSE AND BECAME INOPERABLE. A NHTSA RECALL, #04V527000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE CONCERNING, THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING; BRAKE LIGHTS HOWEVER; THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT OFFER A SECOND REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL.
SPEEDOMETER PEGGED OUT, ACTING ERRATIC...NO WARNING; JUST STARTED WHILE DRIVING AROUND 35 MPH. SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK ! RECALL PLEASE ! *JB
THE TRANSMISSION FAILED IN MY 2003 GMC ENVOY WITH 82,000 MILES. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO THE SUNSHELL GEAR WHICH SEEMS TO BE A COMMON FAILURE WITH THIS TRANSMISSION. BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION WAS DOWNSHIFTING HARD, I TOOK THE CAR TO A GMC DEALER LESS THAN 1000 MILES AGO TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION LOOKED AT. I WAS TOLD MY THE DEALER THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM BUT NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. NOW THE TRANSMISSION HAS NO REVERSE AND THE REPAIR ESTIMATE IS $1,800. *JB
I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING AFTER I PARKED MY 2003 GMC ENVOY XL IN THE GARAGE. AFTER INSPECTING, NOTICED TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING ON GROUND. TOWED TO MECHANIC. TOLD TRANSMISSION COOLER HOSE WAS LAYING NEXT TO CATALYTIC CONVERTER - NOT SECURED. HEAT FROM CC RUBBED HOLE IN TC HOSE AND THEREFORE COULD HAVE IGNITED VEHICLE. SINCE I HAD PARKED IN THE GARAGE, IT ALSO COULD HAVE BURNED MY OTHER VEHICLE AND OUR HOUSE. MECHANIC REPLACED HOSE AND SECURED. GMC WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS A PROBLEM SINCE I DID NOT TAKE IT TO A DEALER FOR REPAIR AND THEY CANNOT FIND ANY RECALL OR BULLETIN ON THIS PROBLEM. *JB
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON, TOLD TO GET NEW GAS CAP, MONTHS LATER SAME PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH THIS TIME MECHANIC FOUND A CRACK IN THE NECK OF THE HOSE THAT GOES INTO GAS TANK. AS I SEE IN THIS SECTION, APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. $800 LATER, I HOPE GMC WILL ACKNOWLEDGE THE FLAW AND ISSUE A RECALL? WILL THIS HAPPEN WITH MY NEW TANK TOO? *NM
IN THE PAST THREE WEEKS I HAVE SMELLED GAS AND STARTED GETTING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID ALL THE NECESSARY STEPS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM COME TO FIND OUT THE FILLER NECK IS BROKEN AWAY FROM THE TANK THAT HAS A HUGE POTENTIAL OF A FIERY REAR-END CRASH. CURSING THE NET IT SEEMS I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE AND FROM SOME OF THE COMMENTS HAVE LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM OUT THERE . IS THERE SOME WAY TO GET GM TO FIX THEIR PROBLEM WITH THEIR GAS TANK? *JB
MY 2003 GMC ENVOY JUST TURNS OFF AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT. OUT OF NO WHERE, WHILE DRIVING, WAITING AT A RED LIGHT OR STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN MY CAR JUST SHUTS DOWN/TURNS OFF. IT'S BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS. VERY DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE. SECONDLY THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT ON MY 2003 GMC REMAINS ON. TOOK IT INTO BEEN SERVICED BY THE GMC DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. NOW I CANNOT GET MY CAR TO PASS INSPECTION NOR GET IT REGISTER. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, AND A WARNING SIGNAL DISPLAYED ON THE VEHICLE'S PANEL. ALSO, THE CONTACT SMELLED GAS FUMES IN AND AROUND THE VEHICLE. IT WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL TANK HAD A LEAK; THE FILLER NECK WAS DETACHED FROM THE TANK. THE FUEL TANK WAS REPLACED WHICH CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 12/1/2006 - THE FILLER NECK DID NOT CONNECT PROPERLY TO THE TANK WHICH WAS FOUND WHEN THE TANK PRESSURIZED. THE CONSUMER FELLS THAT THE CONNECTION OF THE NECK AND TANK IS A DESIGN FLAW. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH DURING NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS IN A SCHOOL ZONE, THE GAS LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND A GAS ODOR FUMIGATED THE VEHICLE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC ENVOY XL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CRANKS, BUT WILL NOT START. THE DIALS ON ALL THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES MOVE UP AND DOWN. THE DEALER CHANGED THE IGNITION SWITCH, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
WHEN I FILL MY ENVOY WITH GAS, IT WILL NOT STOP WHEN IT IS FULL. THE GAS THEN SPILLS OVER ONTO THE SIDE OF THE SUV AND CAUSES ME TO CLEAN IT IMMEDIATELY AND SMELL LIKE GAS. I KNOW THAT IT IS THE SUV AND NOT THE PUMP BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN WITH MY OTHER VEHICLE AT THE SAME PUMP. *JB

A PLASTIC GAS TANK THAT WAS INSTALLED NEW ON MY 2003 GMC ENVOY CRACKED AND IS RELEASING FUEL FUMES. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS MANEUVERED OFF THE ROAD. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BEING PREPARED TO BE TOWED THE TOWMAN NOTICED GAS LEAKING. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THE LEAK AND DETERMINED THE TANK SHIFTED CAUSING THE GAS LINE TO CRACK. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENTIRE GAS TANK WHICH CORRECTED THE PROBLEM.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT ANY GIVEN SPEED ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT'S POWER SEAT MOVED BY ITSELF. BECAUSE IT HAPPENED UNEXPECTEDLY, IT CREATED UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE SEAT CAN BE MANUALLY RESET HOWEVER RESETTING THE SEAT WOULD NOT PREVENT THE MALFUNCTIONING FROM RECURRING. WHEN THE INCIDENTS FIRST OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 5/12/06 AND HAS BEEN THERE FOR 37 DAYS SO FAR WITH NO REPAIRS.
WHEN FILLING MY GAS TANK, I HAVE HAD A FEW ISSUES WITH THE PUMP SHUTTING OFF TOO QUICKLY AS IF THE TANK IS FULL. HOWEVER, I HAVE ALSO HAD THE OPPOSITE AT ONE PARTICULAR GAS STATION. EACH TIME I GOT TO THIS PARTICULAR STATION, THE GAS PUMP CLICKS OFF, BUT GAS CONTINUES TO FLOW AND SPILLS INTO THE TANK AND ALL OVER THE VEHICLE. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WITH MY GMC ENVOY AND NOT ANY OTHER FAMILY OR FRIENDS' VEHICLES AT THE SAME GAS STATION. IT HAPPENS EACH AND EVERY TIME WITH THE ENVOY SO WE HAVE HAD TO STOP USING THAT STATION FOR THE ENVOY FILL-UPS. AFTER SEEING THE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CRACKED GAS HOSE AND ISSUES WITH LEAKS, I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT SOMEONE KNOWS THERE ARE A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE GAS TANKS ON THE ENVOYS. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THE DESIGN OF THE GAS TANK AND ASSEMBLY IS A FAULTY DESIGN AND WILL RESULT IN INJURIES. *JB
