LOSS OF BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS AT LOW SPEED WHEN TURNING WHEEL. WHILE MAKING LEFT HAND TURN INTO DRIVEWAY AT LOW SPEED ON DRY PAVEMENT, ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ACTIVATED CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKING. BRAKE PEDAL "FROZE" AT POSITION AND WOULD NOT ALLOW PEDAL TO BE DEPRESSED FURTHER. VEHICLE CONTINUED FORWARD UNTIL IMPACTING THE EXTERIOR GARAGE WALL CAUSING STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE HOME. UPON FURTHER TESTING VEHICLE IN OPEN, DRY PARKING LOT, THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM ACTIVATES INCORRECTLY WHEN TURNING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT WHILE BRAKING AT LOW SPEED. THIS VEHICLE HAD WHEEL SENSOR SERVICE FOR RECALL CAMPAIGN 05068C PERFORMED ON FEBRUARY 20, 2012. THE GM WHEEL SPEED SENSOR RECALL CAMPAIGN APPARENTLY IS NOT A PERMANENT FIX FOR THE ROOT CAUSE OF FAILURE, BUT ONLY A TEMPORARY BAND-AID SOLUTION. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO ONE IN VICINITY OF FRONT OF VEHICLE WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED, OTHERWISE SERIOUS PHYSICAL INJURY OF LOSS OF LIFE COULD HAVE OCCURRED. *TR
MULTIPLE INCIDENCES OF STEEL BRAKE LINE CORROSION, RESULTING IN LOSS OF FLUID PRESSURE, AND THEREFORE LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 DIFFERENT TIMES ALREADY. LUCKILY I DRIVE COUNTRY ROADS WITH LITTLE OTHER TRAFFIC.OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A REPETITIVE AND SERIOUS ISSUE FOR MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES, AS EVIDENCED BY THE SHEER NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE FILED TO NHTSA FOR THIS VEHICLE. DOES NHTSA EVEN READ OR EVALUATE THE VOLUME AND SERIOUSNESS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME ISSUE? HOW MANY LIVES MUST BE LOST BEFORE THIS BECOMES A RECALL? *TR
I WAS ON THE RAMP ONTO I-75 IN DETROIT WHEN I STARTED TO BRAKE, THE PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR. I HAD A LITTLE BIT OF BRAKING POWER (APPROX.10%) SO I WAS ABLE TO STOP AFTER SOME DISTANCE INWHICH I HAD TO MANEUVER ONTO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND THE BARRIER WALL ON THE RAMP. LUCKILY, I WAS GOING SLOW ON THE RAMP WITH THE TRAFFIC. THERE HAD BEEN NO INDICATION PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. AFTER THIS INCIDENT I CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. I HAD HEARD LATER ABOUT GMC OFFERING A REDUCED CHARGE FOR THE REPAIR AT DEALERSHIPS BUT WHEN I CALLED THE PERSON ON THE PHONE HE HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS OFFER. *TR
I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM LEXINGTON KY WHEN I CAME AROUND A CURVE THERE WERE TWO DEER IN THE ROAD. I HIT THE BRAKES HARD AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HIT ONE OF THE DEER WITH A GLANCING BLOW. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK AND THE DEER RAN AWAY. THANK GOD I WAS NOT IN LEXINGTON WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND THE DEER WAS NOT A CHILD. I AM 72 YEARS OLD AND I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY OR THE ENERGY TO MAKE THIS REPAIR. LAST YEAR MY SON WAS BACKING HIS 2001 SILVERADO TO THE LAKE TO LOAD A BOAT WHEN THIS SAME THING HAPPENED. THE TRUCK WENT INTO THE WATER UP TO THE CAB BEFORE HE GOT IT INTO ANOTHER GEAR. AFTER A 1100.00 REPAIR HE TRADED FOR A FORD. GENERAL MOTORS NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS DEFECT
THE BRAKES IN MY GMC PICKUP TRUCK FAILED DUE TO SEVERELY RUSTED STEEL BRAKE LINES. TWO LINES BURST , ONE AFTER THE OTHER , AS I PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE TRUCK. AN INSPECTION REVEALED EXTENSIVE AND PREMATURE RUST THROUGHOUT THE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES. *TR
POWER STEERING PUMP SHAFT BROKE, HYDRO BOOST SYSTEM THAT CONTROLS BRAKES FAILED. THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED AND IT FAILED AGAIN WITHIN A MONTH. *TR
BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING WEST ON CENTRAL AVENUE IN PEDAL, I APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW THE VEHICLE TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN ONTO STEVENS STREET. I FELT NO RESISTANCE AND LOOKED DOWN TO SEE IF I HAD MISSED THE BRAKE PEDAL SOMEHOW, BUT IT HAD PUSHED WITH NO RESISTANCE TO THE FLOOR. PUMPING THE BRAKES REPEATEDLY, I WAS ABLE TO OBTAIN A SMALL AMOUNT OF BRAKING AND MADE THE TURN ON STEVENS. STOPPING AT DEEP SOUTH CYCLES, I TOLD THE MECHANIC WHAT HAD OCCURRED AND HE NOTICED THE REAR WHEELS WERE VERY HOT, INDICATING REAR BRAKE LOCKUP. INDEED, AT THAT TIME THEY WERE STILL LOCKED UP. WE CHECKED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SEE IF IT WAS APPLIED AND IT WASN'T. THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WAS THE PROPER LEVEL, ALSO. AFTER THE BRAKES HAD COOLED DOWN I DROVE THE TRUCK A SHORT DISTANCE TO A REPAIR SHOP ON CENTRAL AVENUE WHERE THEY REPLACED THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS AND PADS. THEY STATED THAT THE REAR ROTORS HAD TURNED BLUE FROM THE HEAT, AND ADDED THAT THEY "HAD SEEN A LOT OF FAILURES OF GMC BRAKE CALIPERS." *TR
ALL FRAME SUPPORTS A ROTTED NEED THEM WELDED. GMC DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS . HOW COME TOYOTA HAD TO REPLACE THEIR FRAMES BUT GM DON'T HAVE TO . *TR
TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE CAUSED BY CORRODED BRAKE LINES. *TR
BRAKE LINE LEAK FROM RUST HOLE IN BRAKE LINE BELOW DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. ALMOST HIT THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME. I HAVE GM VEHICLES THAT ARE MUCH OLDER THAN THIS ONE AND NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. 1977 CHEVY, ETC. I FEEL A RECALL IS IN ORDER, I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THAT DIDN'T END AS WELL I DID. *TR
CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE. WENT TO BRAKE AT A STOP SIGN AND THERE WAS NO BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE; PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. INSPECTION SHOWED FAILURE OF BRAKE LINE(S). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 156,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE ABS AND HYDRAULIC BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A POPPING SOUND AFTER DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE BRAKE PEDAL THEN SUDDENLY DROPPED TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITH LIMITED BRAKE RESPONSE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED CORROSION ON THE BRAKE LINE UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000. *TR
TRAVELLING TO WORK ONE MORNING ON A BUSY, WELL TRAVELED ROAD I WAS APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. THERE WAS A FEW CARS AHEAD OF ME AND WE ALL HAD TO STOP FOR THE RED LIGHT. AS I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND STARTED TO SLOW DOWN SUDDENLY THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN TO THE FLOOR AND I REALIZED I HAD LOST THE BRAKES. REALIZING THAT I WAS GOING TO REAR END THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME I WAS FORCED TO SHIFT TO 1ST GEAR ON THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND SWERVE TO THE RIGHT OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CAME CLOSE TO HITTING SOME HUGE TREES AND RUNNING INTO A DITCH. AFTER MY NERVES SETTLED DOWN I SAFELY PULLED OUT OF THE EMBANKMENT AND SLOWLY DROVE THE TRUCK TO A SAFE OPENING VERY CLOSE BY. I STARTED TROUBLESHOOTING MY BRAKES AND FOUND A LEAK UNDER THE TRUCK BEHIND THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE. I LOOKED CLOSER AND FOUND THAT ONE OF MY BRAKE LINES HAD BURST OPEN. LOOKING AT THE BRAKE LINES REVEALED THEY WERE ALL RUSTED BADLY. I HAD MY TRUCK TOWED HOME. AS WE WERE DRIVING HOME THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TOLD ME THAT THESE TRUCKS HAVE A STRONG HISTORY OF RUST PROBLEMS OF THE BRAKE LINES AND OTHER AREAS. AFTER UNLOADING THE TRUCK I WENT ONLINE AND STARTED READING ABOUT THE RUST PROBLEMS ON THESE VEHICLES. I WAS SHOCKED AT THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON AN ISSUE SO IMPORTANT AS BRAKE LINES RUSTING OUT. I AM WONDERING IF SOMEONE HAS TO GET KILLED BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT IT. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE WHO OWNS A 1999-2000 GMC OR CHEVY PICK UP TRUCK TO CHECK YOUR BRAKE LINES AND IF THEY ARE RUSTING (WHICH ALMOST ALL ARE) TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA.DOT.GOV/VEHICLECOMPLAINT.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT A STOP LIGHT WHEN MY BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND MY TRUCK WAS MAJORLY UNRESPONSIVE TO STOPPING. IT TOOK AT LEAST DOUBLE THE NORMAL AMOUNT OF TIME TO STOP AND I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THANKFULLY, I WAS TRAVELING AT A LOW SPEED AND HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO STOP OR ELSE THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD ACCIDENT. THE CULPRIT OF THIS INCIDENT WAS CORRODED BRAKE LINES ON MY GMC SIERRA, ONE OF WHICH RUPTURED SUDDENLY DURING THIS INCIDENT. *TR
REPEATED BRAKE FAILURES DUE TO CORRODED BRAKE LINES. *TR
21 YEAR OLD STEP-DAUGHTER DROVE MY TRUCK TO WORK THIS AFTERNOON, WHEN SHE WENT TO LEAVE AT THE END OF HER SHIFT, SHE STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK, IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THANKFULLY SHE WAS STILL IN HER PARKING SPACE, AND NOT OUT IN TRAFFIC ON A VERY BUSY 6 LANE ROAD. I FOUND AT LEAST ONE OF THE 2 BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH WHERE THEY ARE CLIPPED INTO THE PLASTIC GUIDE ON TOP OF THE FRAME. *TR
METAL BRAKE LINE CORROSION AND FAILURE, RESULTING IN MASS FLUID LOSS, PEDAL TRAVELING TO THE FLOOR, AND COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY. *TR
AFTER PUTTING THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE I WENT TO STOP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR INDICATING A LOSS IN BRAKE FLUID PRESSURE. I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK TO INVESTIGATE THE MATTER AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID EVERYWHERE AND A HIGHLY CORRODED BRAKE LINE JUST TO THE REAR OF THE ABS HYDRAULIC UNIT. IT WAS EVIDENT THAT WAS THE SPOT OF THE LINE FAILURE DUE TO THE HIGH AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID THAT HAD BEEN SHOT OUT OF THE LINE ABOVE IT. UPON INSPECTION I HAVE FOUND THAT THE OTHER BRAKE LINES ARE ALSO HIGHLY CORRODED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC 3500 EQUIPPED WITH BF GOODRICH TIRES, SIZE LT245/75/R16. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12T019000 (TIRES:TREAD/BELT) AND WENT TO A LOCAL TIRE SHOP TO HAVE THE TIRES CHANGED HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THE RECALL. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISED HIM TO RETURN TO THE TIRE SHOP TO HAVE THE TIRES REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE NEVER REPLACED. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
DRIVING TRUCK IN TOWN APPLIED BRAKES AT A STOPLIGHT BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. NO BRAKES AT ALL HAD TO GO THRU THE RED LIGHT AND AROUND 3 CARS IN FRONT OF ME, RUBBED THE CURB TO GET THE TRUCK TO STOP. RUST AND CORROSION ON THE STEEL REAR BRAKE LINES CAUSED LINE FAILURE. *TR
STEEL BRAKE LINE RUPTURED UNDER TRUCK CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKES WHILE TOWING A BOAT. *TR
ON MY WAY TO THE STORE I NOTICED REDUCED BRAKE PEDAL AND INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON AT THIS TIME. ON MY WAY HOME THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD EVEN LESS PEDAL AND NEEDED EXTREME STOPPING DISTANCE. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE REPAIR STATION AND THE MECHANIC FOUND HEAVILY RUSTED LINES ESPECIALLY IN THE AREAS OF THE ABS MODULE. ONE OF THE LINES WAS RUSTED THRU AND LEAKING IN THE AREA OF THE ABS MODULE CAUSING THE MALFUNCTION. I ALREADY HAVE HAD THE BRAKE LINES TO THE FRONT CALIPERS REPLACED IN JULY OF 2012 DUE TO EXTREME RUST. I AM HAVING ALL THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED WITH STAINLESS STEEL AT THE TIME OF THIS POSTING. THIS VEHICLE GETS VERY LIGHT DUTY PERSONNEL USE AND SHOWS NO SIGNS OF RUST IN THE BODY. *TR
ABS SYSTEM BOARD - SOLENOID SOLDER CONNECTIONS VIBRATE LOOSE CAUSING FAULT CODES. ABS LIGHT AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT REMAIN LIT ON DASH. TRUCK BRAKES WORK BUT WITH NO ABS ON TRUCK. ABS CONTROLLER WAS ONLY PUT ON TWO YEARS OF GMC AND CHEVY TRUCKS 99-01. *TR
WHILE BACKING MY TRUCK UP TO ATTACH A TRAILER, I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKING ABILITY. MY TRUCK RAN INTO THE TRAILER, CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE. UPON INSPECTION, IT IS EVIDENT THAT THERE IS A FAILURE OF THE BRAKE LINE THAT RUNS TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR CALIPER. A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID CAN BE SEEN AND SMELLED IN THIS AREA. I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK. IT WILL NEED TO BE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR WHAT I ASSUME WILL BE EXPENSIVE REPAIRS. *TR
BRAKE LINES RUSTED THRU AND HAD COMPLETE BRAKE LOST. THE RUSTED LINES ARE AT THE ANTI-LOCK PART THAT CONTROLS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES NEXT TO THE FRAME. I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK SINCE IT WAS NEW AND KEEP IT IN GREAT SHAPE. *TR
PULLING ON THE IN FRONT OF MY HOME , NO BRAKES USE THE PARKING BRAKE. LOOK UNDER THE SIERRA ON THE DRIVER SIDE LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. CORROSION ON BRAKE LINE,71,295 MILES ON THE SIERRA. *TR
BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND FELT A DRAGGING SENSATION AND SCRAPING NOISE. I PULLED THE TRUCK OVER, LOOKED UNDERNEATH EXPECTING TO SEE THE MUFFLER DRAGGING. I WAS SOMEWHAT SURPRISED TO SEE THE GAS TANK RESTING ON THE STREET. THERE WAS A SMALL AMOUNT OF GASOLINE LEAKING ONTO THE STREET. I CALLED AAA TO COME TOW THE CAR. THEY SAID I NEEDED TO CALL THE FIRE DEPT., WHICH I DID [XXX] SOON THERE WERE 2 FIRE TRUCKS AND A HAZMAT VEHICLE. THEY PROCEEDED TO CALL THE MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT, AND 2 OF THEIR TRUCKS ARRIVED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CUT THE REMAINING STRAP AND REMOVED THE TANK. THE MDE PUMPED THE REMAINING FUEL INTO A METAL BARREL. IN LIGHT OF FORD'S RECALL ON 1.1 MILLION PICK-UP TRUCKS, I THOUGHT IT IMPORTANT TO REGISTER THIS REPORT AS IT IS POSSIBLE THAT GMC MIGHT BE USING THE SAME STRAPS TO SUPPORT THE GAS TANKS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THEY WERE TRAVELING 25 MPH AND THE FUEL TANK FAILED AND BEGAN TO LEAK GASOLINE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO COME OUT TO DISPOSE OF THE GASOLINE. THE TANK WAS CUT OFF AND SECURED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED BECAUSE THE STRAPS HOLDING THE TANK AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS WERE SEVERELY COVERED WITH RUST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE FAILED AND WAS PROVIDING INCORRECT FUEL LEVEL READING. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CONTACT THE RUN OUT OF FUEL WHILE DRIVING. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
CORDED BRAKE LINES CAUSED THE FLUID TO BE LOSS UPON STOPPING CAUSING THE BRAKES TO GO OUT, THIS HAPPENED IN 2012 WITH ALL THE MAIN BRAKE LINES TO ALL 4 WHEELS HAVING TO BE REPLACED, THEN AGAIN IN 2013 THE BRAKE LINES ATTACHED TO THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL, CORRODED CAUSING A RAPID LOSS IN BRAKE FLUID AND, AND LOSS OF BRAKES. *JS
I GOT INTO MY GMC APPLIED THE BRAKES BEFORE STARTING THE TRUCK AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. I GOT OUT AND DISCOVERED FLUID DRIPPING FROM UNDER THE TRUCK, ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, ABOUT IN LINE WITH THE BACK OF THE DRIVERS SEAT. *TR
I WAS GOING TO GO TO THE STORE WITH MY TRUCK AND STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I LOOKED UNDER THE DOOR AND THE BRAKE FLUID WAS RUNNING ONTO THE DRIVEWAY AND THE BRAKE LINE WAS ALL RUSTY AND FAILED. I WAS GOING TO BE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH AND CON ONLY IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. *TR
I OWN A 2000 GMC SIERRA 2500 4WD. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW IN JUNE OF 2000. IN THE PAST YEAR, THE CORROSION ISSUES ARE BECOMING OVERWHELMING. YESTERDAY, A BRAKE LINE BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AS I APPROACHED A STOP SIGN AT AN INTERSECTION WITH A STATE HIGHWAY. LUCKILY, I GOT STOPPED AS I WAS ONLY GOING 25 MPH. I BABIED IT TO A LOCAL GARAGE 1/4 MILE AWAY, AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING OUT BELOW THE FUEL TANK AREA. AFTER LOOKING UNDERNEATH, THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT MOST OF THE BRAKE LINES WILL NEED REPLACED BECAUSE OF RUST. GOES ALONG WITH THE CORROSION ISSUE UNDER THE WHOLE TRUCK. I'VE ALREADY REPLACED THE REAR SPRING SHACKLES ON BOTH SIDES, AS ONE HAD RUSTED AND BROKE IN HALF WHILE DRIVING. THIS CAUSED THE LEAF SPRING TO SLAM UP AGAINST UNDERSIDE OF THE BED, WHICH DENTED AND CRACKED THE PAINT IN THE BED. I RESTORE VEHICLES FOR A LIVING, AND I'VE SEEN CARS FROM THE 1940'S THAT DON'T HAVE THIS MUCH RUST ON THE UNDERSIDE. COME ON GM!! IT'S GREAT THAT THE BODY LOOKS LIKE NEW AND THE ENGINE RUNS GREAT, BUT IT DOESN'T DO ANY GOOD WHEN THE FRAME ROTS OUT FROM UNDERNEATH!! AND NOW THE BRAKE LINES---GLAD I WASN'T GOING 60 MPH WITH A LOADED TRAILER WHEN IT BLEW!! *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED TO MAKE A TURN AND THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL REPEATEDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FRONT BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. WHILE PULLING A SMALL ENCLOSED TRAILER AND GOING DOWN A HILL I EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. I HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR BRAKES. I ENDED UP GOING THROUGH A REDLIGHT AND MISSED ANY VEHICLES IN THE INTERSECTION, STARTED TO DOWNSHIFT TO SLOW MY SPEED. CROSSED OVER AN INTERSECTION FOR A BIKE TRAIL WITH NOONE IN THE WAY. THEN HAD TO MAKE A HARD RIGHT TURN TO GO UNDER A TRAIN TRESSEL NARROWLY MISSING AN ON COMING CAR. WHEN I FINALLY GOT THE VEHICLE STOPPED I HAD DROPPED VERTICALLY 80 + FEET IN THE MATTER OF LESS THAN A HALF MILE. ON THE GROUND WAS A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID FROMTHE CORRODED BRAKE LINES THAT HAD BURST RENDERING MY TRUCK IN TO AN UNSTOPPABLE DOWNHILL BOBSLED. THE WEATHER CONDITIONS WE SUNNY AND 80 DEGREES. LUCKILY NOONE WAS IN MY WAY AND I WAS ABLE TO MISS ANY OBJECTS AND STEER THE TRUCK TO A SAFE SPOT. I AM ALSO THANKFUL THAT NEITHER OF MY KIDS WERE IN THE TRUCK WITH ME AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT. I FEEL THAT THERE SHOULD BE SOME ACCOUNTABILITY IN TO WHAT A MANUFACTURE USES FOR VITAL SAFETY ITEMS IN A VEHICLE. BRAKES LINES SHOULD BE A PART THAT SHOULD OUTLAST THE USEFULNESS OF THE VEHICLE . NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE A POSSIBLE FAILURE POINT ANY GIVEN TIME. THIS IS A MATTER OF PUBLIC SAFETY HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE OR GET INJURED DUE TO A COST SAVINGS OF USING REGULAR STEEL LINES ON THE ONE PART THAT MAKES YOU VEHICLE STOP? I HAVE HEARD OF PLENTY OF PEOPLE WITH MULTIPLE VEHICLE TYPES WHO HAVE HAD THEIR BRAKE LINES FAIL. THIS IS JUST UNACCEPTABLE THANK YOU FOR ANYTHING THAT YOU MAY TRY TO DO ON THIS ISSUE . *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING , I HAD NO NOTICE OF PULLING INTO SUPERMARKET OF COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE, FOUND OUT I HAVE MULTIPLE LEAKS AND PIN HOLES IN MY BRAKE LINES UNDERNEATH AND EXTENSIVE RUSTING ON MY VEHICLE, THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
WHILE POSITIONING MY GMC SIERRA PICKUP TO BACKUP MY UTILITY TRAILER THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. THE BRAKE PEDAL FELL COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR WITH NO STOPPING CAPABILITY. BRAKE FLUID WAS FOUND SQUIRTING OUT OF A BURST OPEN METAL BRAKE LINE LOCATED ON A FRAME MEMBER UNDER THE AREA OF THE RADIATOR. I TRACED THE LINE FROM THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL TO THE BRAKE CONTROL MODULE LOCATED UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT. THE LOCATION OF THE LEAK WAS IN A STRAIGHT SECTION OF THE LINE WITH NO CLAMPS IN THE VICINITY. ALL THE BRAKE LINES APPEAR TO BE COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE TRUCK IS NOW OBVIOUSLY UNDRIVABLE. I HAD JUST FINISHED A 20 MILE ROAD TRIP AND ARRIVED HOME WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. I WAS ALWAYS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED, FRONT FROM THE REAR. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW ONE BURST FRONT BRAKE LINE CAN CAUSE COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. I AM LOOKING FOR DIRECTION. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO AVOID CRASHING INTO A PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME, INSPECTED THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND DISCOVERED THAT SEVERAL BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES WAS REPLACED A FEW YEARS PRIOR TO THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 100,791.

COMPLETE HYDRAULIC BRAKE FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ONLY CAME ON AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE FRONT BRAKE HAD STOPPED WORKING SOMETIME AGO, ONLY THE REAR BRAKE HAD BEEN WORKING. THE DEALER "REPLACED REAR PADS AND ROTORS AND PARKING BRAKE SHOES, FOUND FOUR BUSTED BRAKE LINES, REPLACE ALL FRONT BRAKE LINES, MASTER CYLINDER TO ABS MODULE (2) AND FROM MODULE TO FRONT BRAKES(2)."
I WAS DRIVING IN MEDIUM TRAFFIC WHEN A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED QUICKLY AND I APPLIED MY BRAKES. THEN I NOTICED THE PEDDLE GO DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THAT WAS THE ONLY WARNING I RECEIVED AND SO I IMMEDIATELY DROVE HOME PUMPING MY BRAKES WHEN I NEEDED TO STOP AND TRIED TO STOP INFREQUENTLY AS POSSIBLE. *TR
ON FEBRUARY 15, 2012 AT APPROXIMATELY 11:00AM, DRIVING DOWN A TWO LANE PAVED HIGHWAY, THE CROSS PIN IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL GEAR HOUSING FAILED AND PARTS OF IT FELL INTO THE GEARS CAUSING THE REAR TIRES TO LOCK UP AND THE VEHICLE TO SKID OUT OF CONTROL INTO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE. LUCKILY, ONCOMING TRAFFIC WAS ABLE TO STOP IN TIME AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT. THIS WAS VERIFIED BY AMERICAN COLLISION IN RUTLAND, VT AS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE.

CORRODED HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCED BRAKING. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED DURING A STOP WHICH REQUIRED HIGHER PEDAL PRESSURE THAN TYPICAL APPLICATION, CAUSING THE CORRODED LINE TO BURST.
THE LOWER HALF OF THE REAR GAS TANK STRAP HAS ROTTED OUT AND DISLODGED FROM THE UPPER HALF OF THE STRAP. THE FRONT STRAP ALSO HAS VISIBLE CORROSION. A VERY SERIOUS SITUATION. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO FIND THE LOWER HALF OF THE STRAP, AS I WAS MOVING FIREWOOD ON MY PROPERTY. I FEEL BLESSED THAT I FOUND THE ISSUE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT MOVING. I BELIEVE IF UNDETECTED, THE RELEASE OF THE GAS FROM THE CHASSIS WOULD HAVE LIKELY BEEN CATASTROPHIC. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS! *TR
