HAD A RECALL ON THE BRAKES, RECALL # 05068. CLASSIC CHEVEROLET (NOW OUT OF BUSINESS DID THE WORK) THEY ONLY CLEANED THE PARTS, ABS LIGHT CAME BACK ON A FEW MONTHS LATER SO THEY JUST KEPT CLEANING THEM UNTIL MY WARRANTY EXPIRED. THEN WHEN I BROUGHT IT BACK IT ALL OF A SUDDEN NEED OVER $2000 DOLLARS OF REPAIRS. MY WIFE GOT THEM TO KICK IN A $1000. BUT I BELIEVE THE PARTS SHOULD OF BEEN RE MANUFACTURED OUT OF STAINLESS STEEL SO THEY DIDN'T RUST & I WOULDN'T STILL BE HAVING HIS PROBLEM. NOW I'M PROBABLY LOOKING AT ANOTHER $2000 TO CONTINUALLY FIX THE SAME ISSUE. THEY BASICALLY DID THE SAME THING WITH THE TAIL GATE RECALL, JUST REPLACED WITH NEW PARTS OF THE SAME MAT'L AS THE ONES THAT WERE RUSTING AND FAILING IN THE 1ST PLACE. SO I REPLACED THEM SINCE THEN AGAIN ALSO. WHICH IF THEY WOULD OF MADE THEM OUT OF GALVANIZED OR STAINLESS THEY WOULD OF HELD UP BETTER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED, CAUSING A RESISTANCE IN BRAKING AND AN INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND AFTER INSPECTION, BOTH BRAKE LINES AND CALIPERS WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
BADLY ROTTING/CORRODED BRAKE LINES. ONE HAS NOW BURST. BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS NO WARNING. NO WARNING LIGHT NOW OR PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. *KB
THE FRAME ON THE TRUCK IS CRACKED SEVERAL INCHES IN A COUPLE OF PLACES AND ROTTED. IT IS VERY THIN AND I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING SOLID TO WELD TO AND REPAIR IT. THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE FRAME REPLACED. THE TRUCK HAS JUST TURNED 100000 MILES. I HAVE HAD IT FOR SIX YEARS AND TAKE EXCELLENT CARE OF IT. IT RUNS GREAT. THE BODY IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE, THERE IS ONE SMALL HOLE IN THE DRIVER SIDE ROCKER PANEL I WAS GOING TO REPAIR IN THE NEAR FUTURE ( I DO NOT KNOW IF I WILL NOW BOTHER). OTHER THAN THAT THE BODY IS NEAR PERFECT. THERE IS NO ROT IN THE FLOORS OR TRUCK BED. THE REPAIR SHOP COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW BAD THE FRAME IS WHEN THE TRUCK LOOKS SO GREAT. I HAVE FOUND A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET SIMILAR TO THIS, MAYBE IF ENOUGH PEOPLE SPEAK UP SOMETHING WILL GET DONE. ALSO, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES HAVE NOT WORKED FOR SOME TIME NOW. I WAS TOLD THEY GET RUST IN THE ASSEMBLY AND DO NOT WORK RIGHT. I HAVE ALSO HAD SEVERAL BRAKE LINES BREAK AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. I REALIZE THAT BRAKE LINES DO RUST OVER TIME AND DO NEED TO BE REPLACED (THEY SHOULD BE MADE FROM STAINLESS STEEL FROM THE FACTORY) BUT THE ANTI LOCKS SHOULD WORK AND A FRAME SHOULD NOT ROT AND CRACK AS IT HAS. *TR
NHTSA SHOULD BE OPENING INVESTAGATIONS CONCERNING THE BRAKE LINE CORROSION INCIDENTS. WE JUST PURCHASED THIS TRUCK LESS THAN A YEAR AGO, AND BRAKE FAILURE CAUSED US TO HAVE THIS IN THE SHOP FOR OVER A MONTH AND STILL HAVE NO TRUCK YET. THERE ARE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET FOR THE NHTSA TO HAVE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. THIS TRUCK ONLY COST US 6000.00. REPAIRS WILL PROBALLY BE HALF THAT PRICE. *TR
MY 2000 GMC SIERRA'S FRAME IS EXTREMELY RUSTED. PARTS OF THE FRAME HAVE RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. ALL THE BRAKES LINES HAVE BEEN REPLACED DUE TO RUST AS HAVE MANY OTHER BRAKE PARTS. I PURCHASED THE TRUCK USED BUT PREVIOUS OWNER STATED HE REPLACED THE BRAKE LINES DUE TO A LOW SPEED ACCIDENT. *TR
THANK GOODNESS NO ONE WAS HURT, AND NO VEHICLE HIT WHEN MY BRAKE LINES BURST ON THIS VEHICLE. WHEN REPAIRED THE MECHANIC SAID THEY BASICALLY ROTTED OFF FROM RUST AND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE VEHICLES. I UNDERSTAND SOME MAINTENANCE IS NORMAL ON ANY TRUCK, BUT BEING ABLE TO USE YOUR FINGERS TO CRUMBLE PARTS OF THE BRAKE LINE IS NOT. YOU NEED TO INVESTIGATE THIS BEFORE PEOPLE ARE HURT OR KILLED, IF SOME HAVEN'T BEEN ALREADY. YOU ALSO NEED TO REVISIT THE ABS SENSOR PROBLEM FROM THE PREVIOUS RECALL. THAT FIX DID NOT WORK, SO ALL I COULD DO IS DISCONNECT THEM OR CHANCE AN ACCIDENT!!!!!!!!!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE COASTED TO A STOP AND WAS SAFELY DRIVEN HOME AND THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE BRAKE LINES DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. UPDATED 12/17/11 *BF UPDATED 01/18/12
WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN I NOTICED MY BRAKE PEDAL WAS FEELING SOFT, THE NEXT TIME I DEPRESSED THE PEDAL, IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP AT ALL. I COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT AND USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO COMPLETE THE STOP. I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE BY THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND WITNESSED THE FLUID DRIPPING OUT OF THE BRAKE LINES. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHERE HE DISCOVERED ALL FOUR LINES HAD FAILED AT A POINT WHERE ALL THE LINES WERE HELD TOGETHER BY A MOUNTING BRACKET, JUST UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE, AND MOUNTED TO THE FRAME. HAD I BEEN AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND HAD TO MAKE A QUICK STOP THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. *TR
I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN BRAKE FAILURE IN MY DRIVEWAY. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT,JUST THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR. MY MECHANIC LOOKED AT THE FAILED LINE AND SAID ALL MY LINES AND ABS UNIT WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE ALSO FOUND MY RIGHT REAR SPRING HANGER WAS RUSTED OFF AND THE SPRING WAS JUST RESTING ON THE BODY. THE REAR WHEEL BRAKE BACKERS PLATES ARE RUSTED OFF ALSO, AND THE ENTIRE FRAME IS VERY CORRODED. THIS IS A HUGE REPAIR BILL THAT MAY EXCEED THE VALUE OF THE TRUCK. THIS IS NOT NORMAL CORROSION. I HAVE LIVED IN NH 55 YRS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE ROT LIKE THIS. I HAVE A 2000 VOLVO V70 WITH 147,000 MILES ON IT WITH NO ISSUES. OBVIOUSLY GM CHEAPENED THIS TRUCK UP OR BOUGHT DEFECTIVE PARTS. I HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF ACCOUNTS ON THE INTERNET IDENTICAL TO MINE. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED. I AM THANKFUL I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT HIGHWAY OR CITY DRIVING AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. DO THE RIGHT THING AND HOLD GM RESPONSIBLE. THERE WOULD BE NO GM WITHOUT OUR TAX DOLLARS AND THEY NEED TO MAKE THIS RIGHT. THANK YOU *TR
TRUCK HAD FAILED TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION AS WE APPROACHED RED LIGHT. UPON DEPRESSING THE PEDAL THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR JUST ENOUGH TO GET TRUCK SLOWED BEFORE EMERGENCY PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. WE WERE TRAVELING ABOUT 20 MILES AN HOUR BEFORE WE REACHED INTERSECTION ABOUT 75 YARDS AWAY. AS LIGHT TURNED GREEN, WE SLOWLY PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND PARKED TRUCK UNTIL A TOW TRUCK COULD GET VEHICLE BACK TO THE GARAGE FOR REPAIRS. UPON INSPECTION BY OUR MECHANIC, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED NEAR THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE HOUSING WHICH WAS CAUSED BY CORROSSION AND POOR BRAKE LINE TUBING MATERIAL. IT WAS NOTED THAT MATERIAL WAS NOT STAINLESS STEEL OR ANY NON-CORROSIVE MATERIAL SUPPLIED AND INSTALLED BY THE OEM. IT TOOK TWO WEEKS FOR OUR TRUCK TO BE REPAIRED AS THE MECHANIC HAD TO CUSTOMER BEND THE NEW BRAKE LINES BECAUSE OEM DOES NOT HAVE REPLACEMENT LINES WHICH CAME TO A FINAL COST OF CLOSE TO $1300. *TT
SEVERAL BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED THROUGH, THIS CAUSED LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AND LOSS OF ANY BRAKING. THIS HAS CAUSED ME TO BE WITHOUT A TRUCK. DO TO THIS DEFECT GMC HAS CAUSED A VERY DANGEROUS VEHICLE TO BE ON THE ROAD. THIS WILL NOW COST ME TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS TO MAKE MY TRUCK SAFE TO DRIVE. GMC NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS POOR MATERIAL IN BRAKE LINE MATERIAL. PLEASE CORRECT THIS DEFECT BEFORE LIVES ARE LOST.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING UNDER IT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, I SAW THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS CORRODED AND RUPTURED. WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND BACKED IT BACK AND FORTH IN THE DRIVEWAY I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES ONLY WORKED IN THE FRONT FROM THIS POINT. I REPLACED THE RUPTURED BRAKE LINE BUT I AM WORRIED THAT THE REMAINING BRAKE LINES MAY RUPTURE AT ANY POINT. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT DROPPED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC STATED THE BRAKE LINES CORRODED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
BRAKES START ANTI LOCK FEATURE WHEN APPROACHING STOP, GREATLY LENGTHENING THE STOPPING DISTANCE.....THIS IS REPEAT OF SAME PROBLEM RECALLED IN OCT 2005, RESOLUTION OF WHICH WAS TO CLEAN THE COMPONENTS...WELL THEY GET RUSTY AGAIN AND THE SAME PROBLEM IS BACK....NOTE THAT BRAKES ARE TERRIBLE ON THIS VEHICLE, ALL COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPLACED INCLUDING BOTH RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES(JULY 2009, 55745 MILES, $1684.03). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AT A LOW SPEED, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED OUT AND LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS. DOING PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE AND AN INSPECTION I NOTICED FOUR BOLTS ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BROKEN. THE FRONT AND REAR ON BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT SIDES ARE BROKEN OFF. I DID AN INTERNET SEARCH AND FOUND THIS VIDEO HTTP://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=0YG6WLBNZGI. I'M NOTICING THE TICKING SOUND OF EXHAUST LEAKS. LITTLE JETS OF FLAME IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAN'T BE A GOOD THING. *KB
BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO CORRODED BRAKE LINES ON A 2000 GMC SIERRA 2500 PICK -UP TRUCK, LUCKILY IT HAPPENED PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY, SEE THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM, SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED ! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL LINE STRAP FRACTURED. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE FUEL LINE STRAP HIMSELF TO PREVENT IT FROM HANGING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED CAUSING THEM TO FAIL. WHILE COMING TO A STOP AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL HE PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TOWED TO HIS HOME. AFTER INSPECTING THE BRAKES, HE NOTICED THE CORROSION ON THE BRAKE LINE AND BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING. THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,365.
WAS USING MY TRUCK TO TOW ANOTHER CAR ON A TRAILER AT THE TIME. WENT TO STOP FROM ABOUT 40 MPH. MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. WITHOUT WARNING. FOUND THAT ALL BRAKE LINES ON THE TRUCK WERE RUSTED AND HAD BLOWN OUT. *TR
PULLED ON TO ROAD WHILE TOWING BOAT AND COULD NOT STOP. BRAKE PEDDLE TO FLOOR. USED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. REPLACED SOME LINES AND PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED. *JS
WAS DRIVING ON A LOCAL ROAD. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. WAS ABLE TO STOP AND DRIVE IT HOME. THE LINE ABOVE THE GAS TANK WAS CORRODED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. SAME THING HAPPENED IN DEC.2011. THIS TIME THE LINE WAS CORRODED AGAINST THE FRAME LEADING TO THE ABS MODULE. THIS REPAIR HASN'T BEEN COMPLETED BECAUSE OF EXPENSE. I PLAN TO REPLACE THE REMAINDER OF THE LINES BECAUSE THEY ARE RUSTING INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT LEADING TO THE MASTER CYLINDER. *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING HIS 2000 GMC SIERRA GOING ABOUT 45MPH. THE ROADS WERE WET HE SWERVED TO AVOID ANOTHER CAR. HE HIT A UTILITY POLE IN WHAT WAS A FRONT END COLLISION. THE TRUCK WAS TOTALED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HIS EYE HIT THE STEERING WHEEL WITH SUCH FORCE THAT THE GLOBE OF HIS EYE DEFLATED. HE IS NOW BLIND IN HIS LEFT EYE. AFTER THE ACCIDENT I CHECKED THE TRUCK FOR RECALLS. THERE WAS A RECALL ABOUT AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING PROPERLY IN FRONT END COLLISIONS. THERE WAS NEVER ANY NOTIFICATION FROM GMC ABOUT THIS RECALL. *TR
ON 9 JUNE 2011, I WAS TOWING MY 8,000 LB CAMPER BACK FROM THE DEALER WHEN I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, I USED MY CAMPER BRAKES TO STOP THE TRUCK AND FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. I HAD TO TRAVEL ABOUT 30 MILES WITHOUT BRAKES PULLING MY CAMPER USING ONLY THE CAMPER BRAKES WITH THE BRAKE CONTROLLER INSIDE THE TRUCK. ONCE I ARRIVED HOME I FOUND A LINE OF FLUID ON THE GROUND, I OPENED THE HOOD AND FOUND NO BRAKE FLUID IN THE RESERVOIR. I REFILLED THE RESERVOIR AND HAD MY WIFE PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL SO I COULD FIND THE LEAK. THE BRAKE LINE UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR GOING TO THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE WAS LEAKING. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO WITH THE LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE, I AT THAT TIME WAS ALSO PULLING MY CAMPER. THANK GOD THERE WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT INVOLVED IN BOTH, I CONSIDER MYSELF A VERY GOOD DRIVER AND A SAFE DRIVER. ALL MY BRAKE LINES NEED REPLACED ON MY 2000 GMC SIERRA TRUCK. I HAVE NEVER SEEN BRAKE LINES RUST AND CORRODE LIKE THIS, THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR GM. I TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLES AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WILL COST ME ALOT OF MONEY TO REPLACE THESE LINES. YOU LOOK AT MY TRUCK AND CAN SEE THAT I TAKE CARE OF IT, IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE IT IS A 2000 FROM THE OUTSIDE, BUT LOOK AT IT FROM UNDERNEATH AND IT LOOKS TO BE 100 YEARS OLD. I STILL HAVE THE PART OF THE LINE THAT I REPLACED THIS PAST WEEK, BUT THE LINE I HAD TO REPLACE 2 YEARS AGO I DO NOT HAVE. *TR
BRAKE LINE TO THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL BLEW APART CAUSING THE BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK OUT, AND DRAMATICALLY DECREASED THE STOPPING ABILITY OF THE VEHICLE. HAD THIS LINE REPLACED BY A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, AND WAS NOTIFIED BY PERSONNEL THAT ALL OF THE LINES WERE IN BAD CONDITION, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED SOON. *TR
BACKING VEHICLE OUT OF DRIVEWAY, APPLIED BRAKE AND PEDAL DROPPED TO FLOORBOARD WITH LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY. FOUND ALL BRAKE LINES SEVERELY RUSTED, WITH A RUPTURE IN THE LINE FROM THE ABS MODULE TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. ALL BRAKE LINES WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED.
REFERENCE THE RECENT NEWSPAPER ARTICLE INVOLVING THE FAULTY FUEL GAUGES ON VEHICLES.. I JUST PURCHASED A 2000 GM SIERRA P/U TRUCK THAT I LATER FOUND HAD A DEFECTIVE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR INSIDE THE TANK. THINKING I HAD A 1/2 TANK OF GAS I GOT STRANDED ON A SIDE ROAD 22 MILES FROM HOME. IT COST ME A $1,000.00 TO REPLACE THE UNIT AS WELL AS THE FUEL PUMP WHICH ARE ONE UNIT. THE DEALER TOLD ME THE PROBLEM IS COMMON ON ALL LARGE GM VEHICLES. *TR
ATTEMPTING TO STOP FOR A SCHOOL BUS, AS I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK DID NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. AFTER PULLING OVER, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS LEAKING FLUID ON THE GROUND. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, NOTICED THE BRAKE LINES ARE CORRODED.
