WHEN GETTING READY TO PULL OUT OF OUT DRIVEWAY, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND WAS TOLD ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES RUNNING ALONG THE FRAME BY THE ABS ACTUATOR WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND SOME WERE RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. HE SAID ALL LINES WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. LUCKILY I WASN'T ON THE HIGHWAY OR ROADWAY AND INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. *TR
2000 GMC SIERRA 1/2 TON 4X4 TRUCK BRAKE LINE FAILURE IN MARCH 2009 A REAR BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION NO ACCIDENT DUE TO FAILURE AND HAD TO HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED FOR REPAIRS. REPAIR SHOP HAD TO REPLACE RUSTED METAL LINE AND ONE REAR BRAKE CALIPER DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. 24 JULY 2010 ANOTHER BRAKE LINE RUPTURED DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. AGAIN TRUCK WILL BE TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP FOR BRAKE LINE REPLACEMENT/REPAIR. THIS IS THE SECOND BRAKE LINE TO RUPTURE DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION AND I'VE NOTICED THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE AND FUEL LINE SYSTEM IS SEVERELY CORRODED WITH RUST. I NO LONGER FEEL THIS TRUCK IS SAFE TO DRIVE AND WILL BE GETTING RID OF IT ASAP AFTER REPAIRS. LUCKILY THE BRAKE LINES FAILED WHILE THE TRUCK WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. UPDATED IVOQ 09/10/10*JB *TR
DRIVING TOWARD AN INTERSECTION I APPLIED THE BRAKES. AS I PRESSED MORE FIRMLY THE PEDAL GAVE LESS RESISTANCE AND EVENTUALLY TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE ROLLED INTO THE INTERSECTION AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED. NOT SEEING ANY TYPE OF BRAKE WARNING ON DASH I PROCEEDED HOME SLOWLY WITH LITTLE STOPPING POWER. WHEN I INSPECTED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE LEAKING LIKE RUNNING WATER AND CORRODED SO SEVERELY THAT THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED TO THE NEAREST AUTO REPAIR FACILITY. *TR
SEVERE CORROSION OF THE STEEL HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES ON 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500 2WD. SEVERE CORROSION EXISTS AT POINTS WHERE LINES ARE IN CONTACT WITH THE FRAME AND EXTREME CORROSION WHERE BODY LINE CONNECTS TO FLEX LINE AT REAR AXLE. THIS IS SAME CORROSION AS REPORTED ON OTHER VEHICLES WITH NO FACTORY REPLACEMENTS AVAILABLE FOR AFFECTED PARTS. *TR
STEEL BRAKE PIPE THAT CARRIES FLUID TO THE REAR BRAKES RUPTURED NEXT TO THE FUEL TANK. FLUID IS LEAKING AND POOLING ON THE FLANGE OF FRAME. STOPPING PERFORMANCE IS DEGRADED, AND NO WARNING HAS REGISTERED VIA THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OR IDIOT LIGHTS. LINE IS BADLY CORRODED, WHICH PERHAPS IS TO BE EXPECTED GIVEN THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, I FIND IT IRONIC THAT THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS MADE OF STAINLESS STEEL YET THE BRAKE LINES ARE NOT. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD OTHER BRAKE-RELATED FAILURES THAT GM REFUSED TO CORRECT, DESPITE HAVING RECALLED CONTEMPORARY VEHICLES WITH IDENTICAL PROBLEMS. IT IS AN UNUSUAL BUILD - OLD (GMT400)BODYSTYLE, MODEL YEAR 2000, 1 TON CREW CAB LONGBOX. I BELIEVE GM FORGOT THEY BUILT THESE AND THUS THEY NEGLECT TO INCLUDE TRUCKS OF THIS TYPE IN THEIR PRIOR RECALLS. REGISTERING THIS COMPLAINT IN HOPES THAT GM WILL REMEMBER TO INCLUDE SUCH TRUCKS IN THE ONGOING PE OVER THE BRAKE PIPE CORROSION ISSUE. *TR
BRAKE LINES HAVE CORRODED TO THE POINT THE VEHICLE FAILS LOCAL SAFETY INSPECTION CAUSE WAS SAID TO BE BAD MATERIAL USED IN BRAKE LINE CONSTRUCTION. *TR
ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ON MY 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500 ARE RUSTING THRU AND BURSTING. CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKES AND NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. *TR
SEVERE UNDER BODY/FRAME ROT. THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND FRAME OF THE VEHICLE IS SEVERELY CORRODED. THERE ARE NUMEROUS ROT HOLES IN THE BED FLOOR TO THE EXTENT THAT YOU CAN NOT WALK ON THE BED. THE ROCKER PANELS AND CAB CORNERS HAVE ROTTED AWAY COMPLETELY. FACTORY TOW PACKAGE WIRING HARNESS HOUSING IS ROTTED. REAR BUMPER ROTTED TO THE POINT WHERE THERE WAS ONLY 40% OF THE BUMPER REMAINING. BRAKE LINES ROTTED ALONG WITH ENTIRE BRAKE ASSEMBLY ON REAR TIRES, CALIPER AND HOUSING THAT HOLDS CALIPER ROTTED. ENTIRE PORTION OF METAL THAT HOLDS THE LEFT TAILGATE HINGE ROTTED AWAY AND IS NOW GONE. TAILGATE CAN NOT BE OPENED. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE FOR AN INSPECTION STICKER I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS FALLING APART AND I WAS WARNED THAT I SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS ROTTED TO THE POINT THAT REPAIR WOULD NOT BE A COST EFFECTIVE CHOICE. UPON CONTACTING DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE SERVICING THE BRAKES, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PADS ARE RUBBING AGAINST THE INSIDE OF THE ROTORS ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 112,000.
RUSTED BRAKE LINES CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE. IN DEALER NOW FOR REPAIR. A COSTLY REPAIR DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY WERE ENGINEERED ON THE TRUCK TO NEVER BE REPLACED AS THE DEALER NEEDS TO LIFT THE TRUCK CAB OFF THE TRUCK TO REPLACE.. FEEL THIS CORROSION AND FAILURE IS PREMATURE AS I HAVE HAD OLDER VEHICLES THAT HAD HARDLY ANY CORROSION OR HAVE FAILED. I WAS LUCKY THAT I DID NOT GET HURT OR MY FAMILY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE BRAKING FROM SPEEDS OF 10 MPH, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO A NEARBY DITCH. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED AND THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP FOR REPAIRS. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURE WAS CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 105,000
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. WHEN DEPRESSED, THE BRAKES WOULD FALL MUCH FARTHER INTO THE FLOORBOARD THAN USUAL. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SPEED SENSOR YET THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING REPAIRS. THE DEALER THEN ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE COULD BE CAUSED BY A FAULTY VALVE OR MODULE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE CONSUMER STATED HE SPENT OVER $3000 ON THE BRAKE MODULE AND BRAKE LINES WHICH WERE RUSTED. UPDATED 12/22/10. *JB
2000 GMC SIERRA BRAKE LINE CORROSION ISSUE. RUPTURED STEEL LINE BELOW THE DRIVERS DOOR. 1). AFTER A HARD STOP DUE TO OTHER MOTORIST PULLING OUT IN FRONT OF ME THE BRAKES WERE NOT AS FIRM AS BEFORE. 2). THE NEXT MORNING I FOUND AN OIL SPOT ON DRIVEWAY AND BRAKE RESERVOIR HALF EMPTY. INVESTIGATED AND FOUND HEAVILY CORRODED BRAKE LINES IN A GROUP OF FOUR BELOW DRIVERS DOOR AGAINST OUTSIDE OF FRAME. ONE LINE LEAKING FLUID BADLY. 3). I WENT TO GENERAL MOTORS TO PURCHASE NEW BRAKE LINES AND WAS TOLD THAT THE COME IN BULK ROLLS ONLY. THEY HAVE TO BE BENT TO SHAPE AND FLARED TO BE INSTALLED. THIS SEEMS LIKE A VERY LABOR INTENSIVE REPAIR AND WOULD BE VERY COSTLY. I AM WEIGHING MY OPTIONS. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 GMC SIERRA PICKUP TRUCK. TODAY I EXPERIENCED A TOTAL FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM; WHILE COMING UP TO A LIGHT ON A STREET WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 50 MPH, I LOST ALL BRAKING ABILITY AND THE PARKING BRAKE WAS OF NO USE. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT (THANK GOD) BUT AFTER HAVING THE TRUCK TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP, A WEB SEARCH SHOWED A RECENT ARTICLE DESCRIBING SIMILAR FAILURES. THOUGHT I SHOULD FILE A COMPLAINT BEFORE SPEAKING WITH GM TOMORROW MORNING. *TR
REAR BRAKE LINE FAILURE CAUSED BY SALT. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES HAVE ROTTED OUT AND FAILED IN TRAFFIC MULTIPLE TIMES WITHOUT NOTICE. ALSO THE LEAF SPRING HANGERS ROTTED AND BROKE. THE REAR BUMPER IS A RUSTED MESS. THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE TRUCK LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING THAT WAS WASHED ASHORE. HEAVY DUTY ROT. THE BODY AND CAB INSIDE STILL LOOK NEW. SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE STEEL IN THIS VEHICLE. *TR
GMC SIERRA - UNWANTED ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATION. GMC RECALL #05068. *TR
MY BRAKE LINES FAILED ON MY 2000 GMC FROM WEAR. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 GMC SIERRA PICKUP WITH DISC BRAKES ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. THE PARKING BRAKE IS A HORSESHOE SHAPED BRAKE SHOE THAT IS TO GRAB A BRAKE DRUM DESIGNED INTO THE REAR WHEEL ROTOR. I HAVE USED THE PARKING BRAKE ABOUT FIVE TIMES( EXAGGERATED) IN THE LIFE OF MY TRUCK. WHEN THE BRAKE FAILED TO HOLD I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT, AS I RARELY USED IT. RECENTLY ON AN UNRELATED REPAIR I HAD OCCASION TO REMOVE AND INSPECT MY REAR ROTORS. THE BRAKE SHOE FOR THE PARKING BRAKE REPOSITIONED ITSELF AND HAS BEEN RUBBING ON THE BRAKE DRUM PORTION OF THE ROTOR CAUSING IT TO WEAR THE LINING OF THE DRUM . VERY LITTLE WEAR OCCURRED TO THE PARKING BRAKE SHOE. THE DESIGN OF THE SHOE ITS POSITION ON THE DRUM CREATED A BASIN WEAR PARTICLES ACCUMULATED INSIDE THE WORN AREA OF THE DRUM CREATING EVEN FASTER WEAR TO THE SURFACE. AFTER 180000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE I HAVE THE ORIGINAL DISC BRAKE PADS IN RELATIVELY GOOD SHAPE AND IF I HADN'T HAD THE OTHER REPAIR TO PERFORM I WOULD NOT HAVE REMOVED THE DIC BRAKE ROTOR ON THE REAR WHEELS TO LEARN THAT ABOUT HALF OF THE DRUM MATERIAL HAD BEEN WON THROUGH ON ONE SIDE AND LESS SO ON THE OTHER SIDE. I WAS NOT SUBJECT TO RECALL 05042B (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA04011) AND I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE PREVIOUS ISSUE WITH THE PARKING BRAKES. IF I CONTINUED TO USE THE VEHICLE IN UNADULTERATED MANNER MY WHEEL ROTOR WOULD WEAR THROUGH AND THE WHEEL FALL OFF AT A TIME OF ITS OWN CHOOSING.. I SPOKE WITH MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND ASKED ABOUT APPLICABLE RECALLS REGARDING THE PARKING BRAKE ON THE PICKUPS AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE KNEW OF NO SUCH ISSUES. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS FRONT AND BACK ON BOTH SIDES BROKE OFF , THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS TRUCK. *TR
MY FRONT BRAKE LINE CORRODED AND RUPTURED AND STARTED LEAKING FLUID. I HAD NO BRAKES AND HAD TO TOWED FOR REPAIR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC K15. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT IT TOOK EXTRA TIME FOR THE BRAKES TO ENGAGE WHEN HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL; HE HAD TO CONTINUE TO APPLY PRESSURE SO THE VEHICLE WOULD SLOW DOWN. HE NOTICED THE PROBLEM ONLY AT LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,508. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,100.
I HAVE A 2000 GMC SIERRA WITH AN ANTI-LOCK BRAKE PROBLEM. AT LOW SPEED BRAKING THE TRUCK'S ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM COMES ON AND CAUSES THE TRUCK NOT TO STOP CORRECTLY. THIS HAS CAUSED MANY NEAR COLLISIONS. I SPOKE TO GM ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THE THEY HAD REPAIRED THE TRUCK BEFORE I OWNED IT, AND THEY HAD FIXED THE PROBLEM. BUT IF THE SAME PROBLEM IS HAPPENING AGAIN, THEN THEY HAVE NOT FIXED IT. I UNDERSTAND THAT WEAR AND TEAR IS A ISSUE WITH EVERY CAR AND THAT OVER TIME THINGS NEED TO BE REPAIRED, BUT IF IT'S THE BRAKE SYSTEM ITSELF AND NOT THE CONDITION OF THE BRAKES, SHOULDN'T THAT FALL ON GM TO MAKE THAT CORRECTION. I HAVE A 2000 GMC. AT LOW SPEEDS (UNDER 10K) THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP QUICKLY,IT TAKES 10 OR MORE FEET WITH THE BRAKE FADE. I TOOK THE ABS FUSE OUT AN IT STOPS ON A DIME.VERY DANGEROUS IN SHOPPING CENTRES THE FUSE IS IN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN VERY HORRIBLE CONDITIONS ALONG HWY 97 IN KLAMATH FALLS,OR AND I HIT A PATCH OF BLACK ICE AND BEGUN TO SPIN OUT, MY TRUCK THEN BEGIN HEADING TOWARDS A DEEP DITCH. SYMPTOMS HAVE RETURNED, DEALER WILL NOT PERFORM RECALL PROCEDURE A SECOND TIME AT NO COST. SLOW SPEED ABS ACTIVATION INCREASES STOPPING DISTANCE, AND CAN CAUSE A CRASH. *TR
2000 GMC SIERRA 4X4 PICK UP ABS BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATES AT VERY LOW SPEED, THUS RELEASING BRAKES AND CAUSING VEHICLE TO CONTINUE FORWARD CAUSING ME TO GO OVER A BANK OR HIT OBJECT AHEAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE ABS SYSTEM INTERMITTENTLY ACTIVATES WITHOUT WARRANT. THIS CONDITION CAUSED THE BRAKES TO LOCK. ON ONE OCCASION WHEN THIS FAILURE OCCURRED, THE BRAKE PEDAL FELL COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR EXHIBITED EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIR SERVICE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000. THE CURRENT WAS 112,759.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE EXITING A RAMP AT 35 MPH HE LOST POWER STEERING. HE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. UPON VEHICLE INSPECTION HE NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP SHAFT FRACTURED. HE REPAIRED THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. HE WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM RECALL# 05V005000 (POWER TRAIN:DRIVE LINE:DRIVE SHAFT). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000. IN THE LAST WEEK OF OCTOBER, 2009, MY FATHER AND I WERE PULLING A BUMPER HITCH CAMPING TRAILER WHEN THE TRUCK BRAKES FAILED. WE WERE ABLE TO LIMP THE REST OF THE WAY HOME BY USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THE ELECTRIC ASSIST BRAKES ON THE CAMPER. WHEN WE HAD THE BRAKES INSPECTED, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE METAL BRAKE LINES ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE HAD CORRODED INSIDE THE FRAME, NEXT TO THE GAS TANK. THE BRAKE LINE WAS REPLACED AND NO FURTHER INCIDENT HAS ARISEN. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) BY WEHR FORD (11311 US-60 BUS, MOUNTAIN GROVE, MO 65711, (417) 926-3192). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER ONLY CLEANED THE ABS SENSOR FOR CORROSION. YEARS LATER, THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO RESPOND DUE TO INTERNAL CORROSION REGARDING THE SENSOR. ALSO, THE ABS KEPT INTERMITTENTLY ACTIVATING AND CAUSED EXTREME DIFFICULTY WHEN BRAKING. THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND CAUSED THE DRIVER TO HAVE TO REVERSE MORE THAN TWICE TO PREVENT A CRASH. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND INDICATED THAT THE ABS SENSOR MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ON OR ABOUT 18 OCT 2009 AS I WAS TURNING INTO MY DRIVEWAY AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON MY 2000 GME 1/2 TON TRUCK IT FAILED TO STOP AS NORMAL. I ALMOST HIT MY TRAVEL TRAILER. THE BRAKES MADE AN UNUSUAL NOISE THAT SOUNDED AS IF IT CAME FROM AROUND THE BRAKE BOOSTER. I HAD IT REPLACED, THIS DID NOT ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN AGAIN UNTIL AROUND 15 JAN 2010 THIS BRAKING PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A CHEVROLET DEALER AND TALKING WITH A SERVICE MGR. WITH SOME 33 YEARS EXPERIENCE,HE RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM. HE EXPLAINED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WAS ACTIVATING RESULTING IN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES DURING LOW SPEED BRAKE APPLICATIONS. HE REMOVED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS AND CLEANED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS MOUNTING SURFACE AND APPLIED A RUST INHIBITOR AND REINSTALLED THE WHEEL SENSORS AT A COST TO ME OF $252.00 I BELIEVE GMC SHOULD BEAR THIS COST AS THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. TRUCK LOST ABILITY TO STOP EFFECTIVELY. TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. MECHANIC FOUND STEEL BRAKE LINES HAD RUPTURED BECAUSE OF CORROSION. BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. *TR
2000 GMC SIERRA BRAKE LINE RUPTURED LAST YEAR WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE HARD TO AVOID A COLLISION. *TR
APPROACHING STOP SIGN AT AN INTERSECTION APPLIED BRAKE PEDAL AND AT SAME TIME PEDAL WENT DOWN ALMOST TO FLOOR AND LOST OF BRAKING FORCE. WAS ABLE TO BRING VEHICLE TO A STOP BUT HAD NO ROOM TO SPARE. INSPECTION UNDER VEHICLE REVEALED BRAKE LINE RUPTURED DUE TO CORROSION. VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED SINCE THAT TIME AND NOT IN USE. BRAKE LINE RUNNING TO REAR OF VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
INSTRUMENT PANEL WORKS VERY RARELY, CAN'T TELL HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING OR WHAT GEAR YOU ARE IN AND THE ANTILOCK BRAKES MAKE IT SO THE VEHICLE WON'T STOP WHEN YOU ARE MOVING AT LOW SPEEDS. *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AND NOTICED MY BRAKES WERE GONE. THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED. HAD IT REPAIRED AND SINCE THEN WE HAVE HAD 4 ADDITIONAL INCIDENTS. *TR
ON 02/01/06 I PURCHASED 4 TIRES FOR MY TRUCK FROM FIRESTONE AND TODAY I TOOK IT TO THE FIRESTONE DEALER AS I HAVE A RADIAL PULL IN ONE OF THE TIRES. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TIRES ON MY TRUCK WERE 8,9 AND 10 YEARS OLD AND THAT THEY COULD NOT FIX MY PROBLEM. THE DOT # ON MY RECEIPT IS 7XW8PIB5500 WHICH IS NOT CORRECT AND WITH THE 00 ON THE END THE TIRES WERE OVER 6 YEARS OLD WHEN SOLD TO ME. I CALLED THERE MAIN OFFICE AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD DO AN ADJUSTMENT AGAINST THE AGE OF MY TIRE AND MILEAGE AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE REST WHICH COMES TO OVER $565.00 DOLLARS. IN MY OLD PURCHASE I HAVE LIFETIME WHEEL BALANCE, LIFETIME WHEEL BALANCE FOR LABOR AND RUBBER VALVE, PLUS PROTECT TIRE REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT. I ALSO HAVE TIRE DRY ROT ALONG WITH THE RADIAL PULL AND FEEL THAT THE TIRES I GOT WERE WELL OVER THE 5 YEARS AND I EXPECT TO GET FOUR NEW TIRES WITH THE SAME WARRANTY BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT I PAID FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE. THEY SOLD ME TIRES FIRST OF ALL THAT WERE TO OLD AND THEY DID NOT HAVE THE CORRECT DOT NUMBER. WITH THE WAY THE ONE FRONT TIRE THAT HAS A RADIAL PULL KEEPS PULLING TO THE LEFT IT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND WITH THE TIRE ROT THEY COULD BLOW OUT AT ANY TIME AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT ALSO. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR WITH PRESSURE APPLIED TO IT. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN INTO A PARKING SPACE TO AVOID CRASHING INTO THE PROCEEDING VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO CORROSION IN THE FRONT BRAKE LINE WHICH RESULTED IN A BRAKE FLUID LEAK. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WAS CORROSION WITHIN THE ANTILOCK BRAKE LINE SYSTEM, PARKING BRAKE CABLE, CALIPER, AND DISC WHICH WERE ALL REPLACED. THE REPAIR COST WAS $700.00. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,900.
LOST BRAKES WHILE BACKING UP ND HAD TO STOP SUDDENLY-BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND HAD PUT VEHICLE IN DRIVE TO STOP.SET E-BRAKE TO HOLD. MOVED VEHICLE TO MY DRIVEWAY TO CHECK PROBLEM. BRAKE LINES TO ABS BLOCK BROKE. LINES FOR FRONT AND REAR BRAKES BROKE DUE TO CORRISION. REMOVED LINES AND FOUND ALL LINES EXCEPT LINES ON REAR AXLE FAILED. REPLACED ALL SEVEN LINES. *TR
EXITING THE HIGHWAY ON AN OFF RAMP, APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR. FOUND A BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED AND BURST. HAD TO REPAIR ALONG THE ROAD. *TR
EXCESSIVE RUST FROM MIDDLE OF UNDER CARRIAGE ON BACK LEAD TO TWO PART FAILURES. REAR MAIN BRAKE LINE ON DRIVER SIDE OF VEHICLE BURST WHILE APPLYING BRAKES IN DRIVEWAY LEADING TO BRAKE FAILURE. I STOPPED TRUCK BY APPLYING EMERGENCY BRAKE AND SLAMMING TRANSMISSION INTO PARK--THANK GOD THIS HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT ON THE ROAD-- RESEARCH ON INTERNET REVEALS EXCESSIVE RUST FOR THESE TRUCKS IS COMMON. AFTER HEARING ABOUT THE TOYOTA TUNDRAS DROPPING A SPARE TIRE DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST, I FIGURE BRAKE FAILURE POSSIBLY LEADING TO TRAFFIC ACCIDENT QUALIFIES TOO. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA TRUCK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AT RELATIVELY LOW SPEEDS IT IS DIFFICULT TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS CAN CAUSE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. HE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER IN REFERENCE TO RECALL #05V379000, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTI LOCK. A REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT SINCE HIS VIN WAS EXCLUDED, HE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR A FREE REMEDY. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO AVOID CRASHING INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HIM; HOWEVER, THEY FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT WAS FORCED TO MAKE A LEFT TO AVOID THE CRASH. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE BRAKE LINE WAS REPLACED AS IT WAS COVERED WITH RUST. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 93,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 89,000.
WHY IS IT THAT FOUR PEOPLE I KNOW WHO OWN GMC VEHICLES ALL HAVE HAD TO DISCONNECT THEIR ABS SYSTEMS BY PULLING THE FUSE? THE WHEEL SENSORS HAVE BECOME DEFECTIVE AND ARE VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR OR REPLACE. ISN'T THE ABS SYSTEM SUPPOSED TO BE A SAFETY FEATURE? I THINK SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG WITH THE SET-UP OR DESIGN. GM SHOULD HAVE TO RECALL THEM. *TR
TIRE FAILURE AFTER 15,000 MILES. STRONG RADIAL PULL FROM RIGHT TO LEFT AT HIGHWAY SPEED. ON FURTHER INSPECTION ALL FOUR TIRES HAD COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION ON OUTSIDE TREAD CHANNEL COVERING THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE TIRES. SOME TREAD SEPARATION HAS STARTED ON THE FAR INSIDE CHANNEL OF THE FOUR TIRES. UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF WARE HAS OCCURRED ON THE OUTSIDE SHOULDER OF ALL FOUR TIRES. CRACKING WAS NOTED ON TREAD LUGS. REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

WHILE TRYING TO SELL MY VEHICLE, AN AUTO SERVICE FACILITY DISCOVERED SERIOUS FRAME CORROSION WHICH COULD PROVE TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE. THE CORROSION SEEMS EXCESSIVE AND SUGGESTS DESIGN AND/OR MATERIAL DEFICIENCIES. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ALL BRAKE LINES AND HAVE HAD TRANSMISSION SHIFT LINKAGE FAILURE, ALL DUE TO RUST. ALSO, EXCESSIVE BODY RUST IN THE LOWER ROCKER PANELS HAS OCCURRED, MORE OF A COSMETIC PROBLEM, BUT INDICATIVE OF THE PERVASIVE RUST PROBLEM THAT EXISTS. *TR
THE PARKING BRAKE ON MY 2000 GMC SIERRA WILL NOT HOLD. I HAVE ADJUSTED BOTH THE PARK BRAKE SHOES AND CABLE, BUT IT WILL STILL NOT HOLD THE TRUCK. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE THAT LED TO A RECALL ON GMC AND CHEVROLET PICK-UPS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS, BUT THE TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS WERE NOT INCLUDED. HOWEVER, THE PARK BRAKE MUST BE IN WORKING ORDER TO PASS THE NC SAFETY INSPECTION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 2500. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 30-35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT FAILED TO STOP COMPLETELY AT A STOP SIGN. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING THE MASSIVE IMPACT. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE POLICE AND AMBULANCE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OCCUPANT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER. THE OPPOSING VEHICLE SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMGES AND THE TWO OCCUPANTS WERE INJURED.
