ON 9-25-06 I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND LOST MY BRAKES . AFTER STOPPING I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM UNDER MY PICKUP .TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE WAS CORRODED FROM THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK TO THE BACK .HAVING BRAKE LINE REPLACED . *NM
MY 2000 GMC PICK UP TRUCK HAS A LOUD ENGINE NOISE REFERRED TO AS PISTON SLAP. THE NOISE HAS BEEN PRESENT SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I HAVE SINCE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT WITH SOME GM ENGINES. THE DEALER STATES THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE BUT MANY WEB SITES DESCRIBE IT AS A MANUFACTURING & DESIGN DEFECT. I BELIEVE THIS CAUSES DECREASED PERFORMANCE AND INCREASED FUEL CONSUMPTION. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE HAD EXCESSIVE WEAR AND A NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE TIRE AND REPLACED THE CALIPER, ROTOR, AND SHOES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP.
THE SPARE TIRE HOIST CABLE HOLDING THE SPARE TIRE ON MY VEHICLE FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING CAUSING MY SPARE TIRE TO DROP ONTO THE ROAD AND FORCING VEHICLES BEHIND ME TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL TOUCHED THE FLOOR AND THERE WAS EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A RUSTED BRAKE LINE . UPDATED 8/30/2006 - *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE METAL PIECE ON THE BACK OF THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT WHERE THE SEAT BELT LOOPS THROUGH HAD BROKEN. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT, NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # 05C003000; CHILD SEAT: HARNESS , BUT THE FREE IN-HOME REMEDY KIT OFFERED WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE BROKEN METAL PIECE IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THE METAL PIECE BROKE DUE TO THE POOR INTEGRITY OF THE FAILED PART NOTED IN THE RECALL. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE TAILGATE CABLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE RUSTED AND BROKE. THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS ALSO RUSTED AND WAS ABOUT TO BREAK. THERE IS AN NHTSA RECALL, # 06V066000 REGARDING THE STRUCTURE: BODY: TAILGATE: HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. UPDATED 07/25/06. *JB
TRIED TO STOP ON DRY PAVEMENT, BUT DUE TO ABS MALFUNCTION, THE TRUCK WASN'T ABLE TO STOP. WE HAVE HAD MANY INCIDENTS WHERE THERE COULD HAVE BEEN PROPERTY DAMAGE AND POSSIBLE DEATH DUE TO BRAKING SYSTEM. THE ABS WOULD CALCULATE WHEEL LOCK UP EVEN WHEN THE TRUCK DID NOT HAVE "LOCK UP" AND ENGAGE SYSTEM NOT ALLOWING TRUCK TO STOP. MAILMAN PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF TRUCK COULDN'T SLOW DOWN, BUT DID AVOID ACCIDENT. RAN A STOP SIGN ONCE. ALMOST RAN INTO THE SIDE OF A BUILDING. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF INCIDENT'S, I KNOW OF THREE OR MORE VEHICLES WITH SAME PROBLEMS, ALL ARE MADE BY GM. WHEEL BEARINGS AND SPEED SENSORS MUST BE REPLACED AND POSSIBLY AXLES BECAUSE THERE IS A RING GEAR THAT EMITS SIGNAL TO WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, RING GEAR IS ON AXLE OR WHEEL BEARING. WHEEL BEARING COST 265.00 A SIDE ON MY FAMILY'S 2000 GMC SIERRA 3500 4X4 CREW CAB LONG BOX DUALLY. AN EASY ZERO COST TO FIX THIS IS TO PULL OUT THE 30 AMP TO 60 AMP FUSE IN POWER DISTRIBUTION CENTER UNDER THE HOOD. THIS DISABLES THE ABS AND DOES NOT ALLOW IT TO OPERATE. ABS LIGHT ON DASH COMES ON TO NOTIFY THIS. THIS MAY SHOCK YOU, BUT I DON'T LIKE ABS ANYWAY AND IF YOUR A SAFE DRIVER YOU DON'T NEED ABS IN THE FIRST PLACE BECAUSE IF SOMETHING HAPPENS IN FRONT OF YOU THAT ISN'T CONTROLLABLE, YOUR GOING TO HIT THEM OR IF YOUR SMART, YOU WILL GO FOR THE DITCH. ANYWAYS WITH THE FUSE PULLED YOU WILL HAVE THE SAME BRAKES THAT YOU HAD BEFORE, ONLY THAT THE ABS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU STOP IN A CASE WHERE THERE IS WHEEL LOCK UP, NOT THAT IT WAS HELPING ANYWAY (THIS IS WHY I AM WRITING TO YOU). AND YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH RUNNING INTO THINGS OR RUNNING STOP SIGNS. AND I HAVEN'T HAD A PROBLEMS SINCE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25MPH THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE BRAKE FLUID WAS CHECKED AND THEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT RESIDENTS. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TUNED OFF, THE ABS MODULATOR WAS OBSERVED TO BE STILL RUNNING. THE FUSE TO THE MODULATOR WAS DISCONNECTED AND TAKEN OUT. THE DEALER STATED THE ABS MODULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN
GAS GAUGE NOT RESPONDING CORRECTLY GIVING INCORRECT READING. GAUGE IS SPORADIC MOSTLY WHEN TANK IS FULL , HAVE SOME CONCERN THAT ELECTRICAL FIRE MAY OCCUR DUE TO ELECTRICAL SPARK IN FUEL TANK. I BELIEVE A RECALL SHOULD BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS MATTER. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE POWER WINDOWS FAILED TO POWER UP. UPON INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE REGULATOR ASSEMBLY FAILED. THE CABLES FRAYED DUE TO RUBBING AGAINST THE SLIDER MECHANISM. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS REPLACED. UPDATED 6/23/2006 - *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ENGAGED IN RAINY WEATHER, THE WIPERS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHO DETERMINED THE BOLTS ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER ARMS NEEDED TO BE TIGHTENED, WHICH REMEDIED THE PROBLEM.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70MPH, THE ENGINE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING FOLLOWED BY SMOKE ERUPTING FROM THE FRONT UNDERHOOD AREA WITH NO VISIBLE FLAMES. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE CURB IN NEUTRAL AND EXIT THE VEHICLE. UPON INITIAL INSPECTION ON THE SKID PLATES, THERE WAS A ROD BEARING FAILURE, BUT OIL WAS STILL PRESENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE RECEIVED REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND THERE WERE NO OBVIOUS ROAD HAZARDS.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PULLED THE FUSE TO THE ABS TO HAVE BRAKING POWER AT LOW SPEEDS OF 15 MPH. THERE IS AN NHTSA RECALL, 05V379000 CONCERNING THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK, HOWEVER THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP CLEANED THE SENSORS; HOWEVER THE VEHICLE IS STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT OFFER A SECOND REPAIR WITHOUT CHARGE UNDER THE RECALL. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY FAILS TO SHIFT INTO THIRD AND FOURTH GEARS. WHEN THE SHIFTER FAILS THE DIGITAL GAUGES FAIL TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE SHIFTS NORMALLY AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. UPON INSPECTION THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE HAVING THE BRAKE SENSORS REPLACED NHTSA RECALL # 05V379000 CONCERNING THE SERVICE BRAKES ANTILOCK. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE ROTORS WERE FLAKING APART DUE TO CORROSION.
ROAD DEBRIS BOUNCED UP AND BROKE OFF THE SHIFTER CABLE RENDERING MY SHIFTER INOPERABLE. I HAD TO CRAWL UNDER THE TRUCK AND SHIFT IT BY HAND TO GET IT TO A PLACE TO HAVE THE CABLE REPLACED. VERY DANGEROUS. *NM
SLAVE CYLINDER ON HYDRAULIC CLUTCH FAILED INSTANTLY RESULTING IN LOSS OF STOPPING ABILITY. OCCURRED AT HOME IN DRIVE WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC IF TRAVELING ON PUBLIC HIGHWAY IN TRAFFIC. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS ON DRY NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ACTIVATED AND PUMPED CONTINUOUSLY WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. SHORTLY AFTER, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE CRUISING. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. A NHTSA RECALL REGARDING THE SPEED SENSORS, WAS PERFORMED TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT BOTH PROBLEMS WERE NOT RELATED, AND A DIAGNOSTIC TEST DISPLAYED THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE WAS FAULTY AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE FUSE THAT SUPPLIED POWER TO THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE IN THE MEAN TIME, WHICH DEACTIVATED THE ABS SYSTEM. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER AFTER FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA. UPDATED 1/19/2007 -*NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE FAN STOPPED BLOWING WITHOUT WARNING. THE SENSOR RESISTOR WAS REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $500. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS AVAILABLE, THEREFORE, THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 191,360 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 189,000. UPDATED 12-12-07. *KB UPDATED
THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE THE THROTTLE STICKS IN THE IDLE POSITION WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS RELEASED. IT TAKES A VERY FIRM PUSH TO RELEASE THE THROTTLE AND WHEN IT DOES RELEASE THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD. COMPLAINTS TO THE DEALER RESULT IN A RECOMMENDATION TO HAVE THE FUEL SYSTEM FLUSHED ON AN ONGOING BASIS. SOME RELIEF IS ACHIEVED BY CLEANING THE THROTTLE BODY AREA AROUND THE BUTTERFLY PLATE. THIS HAS TO BE DONE ALMOST MONTHLY. THE DEALER ALSO STATES THAT HE DOES NOT KNOW OF A FACTORY FIXES TO THIS PROBLEM.*AK
FUEL GAUGE READING INCORRECTLY ON MY 2000 GMC SIERRA. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPROACHING A STOP DRIVING 3 TO 5 MPH, THE ABS ACTIVATED. THE FUSE WAS TAKEN OUT TO DEACTIVATE THE ABS. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, #05V379000 REGARDING THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SENSOR. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE.
MY GAS GUAGE ON MY 2000 GMC SIERRA PICKUP IS ACTING ERATIC. IT GOES BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THIS STARTED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. I DID A SEARCH ON GOOGLE AND FOUND THAT THIS SAME PROBLEM WAS BEING REPORTED TO AUTOMOTIVE HELP SITES BY A WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE. SOME SAY IT IS THE SENDING UNIT IN THE GAS TANK - SOME DEALERSHIPS TOLD THEM THIS. THE COST TO DROP THE TANK AND FIX THE PROBLEM IS AROUND $800. EVEN IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO FORCE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE, YOU CAN EASILY SEE BY SEARCHING GOOGLE THAT THIS IS INDEED A MAJOR PROBLEM. I SUSPECT THAT NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE KNOW THAT THEY CAN FILL A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA. THANK YOU...*NM
CONSUMER COMPLAINT CONCERNING THE ANTILOCK BRAKES WHICH MALFUNCTIONED PRIOR TO RECALL NOTIFICATION. *TS THE RECALL WORK WAS DONE BUT THE SAME DAY THE ANTILOCK BRAKES FAILED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER . THE DEALER CLAIMED THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY COULD DO. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT HAD RECALL 05V37900 REPAIR WORK DONE ON THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES. APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH LATER, WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, HE HEARD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. THE CONSUMER WAS ONLY GOING 8-10 MPH AND THE CONSUMER TRAVELED 200-300 FEET BEFORE HE WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY STATED THE WHEEL BEARINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK UPDATED 01/11/06. *JB
NO INCIDENT YET...EXTENSIVE RUST ON BRAKE LINES NEAR ENGINE...ALSO EXCESSIVE RUST PITTING ON BRAKE ROTORS. GM DEALER SAYS CAUSED BY SALT..TRUCK IS 2000 MODEL WITH LESS THAN 60,000 MILES. I AM AFRAID BRAKE LINES MAY RUPTURE PREMATURELY DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST AND PITTING. INDEPENDENT MECHANICS VERIFY MY FEELINGS. *NM

VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION BECAUSE OF PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. TALKED TO SEVERAL MECHANICS WHO COULD IDENTIFY THE MODEL, YEAR AND MAKE OF THE VEHICLE AS SOON AS I SAID PARKING BRAKE - ALL STATED THAT IT WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, SAME WITH THE WHEEL HUB. ALSO AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN MY SON HIT A DEER WITH THE VEHICLE. *NM
VEHICLE BRAKES DAMAGED BY ROAD SALT CORROSION, CAUSING REAR BRAKE CALIPERS TO SEIZE UP AND BRAKE DISKS TO DELAMINATE. REAR BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY INOPERABLE. *JB
I FILED A COMPLAINT LAST YEAR (ODI# 10125958) ABOUT MY ONE TAILGATE CABLE BREAKING AND GM TELLING ME THAT MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE TAILGATE CABLE RECALL NHTSA#04V129000 GM RECALL#04007. I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM THE NHTSA OR GM. SINCE THEN MY OTHER CABLE HAS BROKEN MAKING MY TAILGATE USELESS. NOW WHENEVER I HAVE TO LOAD SOMETHING INTO MY TRUCK, I HAVE TO TAKE MY TAILGATE OFF. THAT'S AN INJURY JUST WAITING TO HAPPEN. BUT THEN AGAIN, I GUESS THE NHTSA DOES NOT CARE OR LISTEN UNTIL THE INJURIES HAPPEN ANYWAY. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING THE BRAKES ON HIS VEHICLE. AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, THE FAILURE RECURRED. WHILE DRIVING 8 MPH, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. PRIOR TO THE REPAIR, THE CONTACT FILED A COMPLAINT AND HAD THE ISSUE ADDRESSED AND REPAIRED FOR FREE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,563.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AT RUSH HOUR APPROACHING TRAIN STATION. MANY PEOPLE WERE WALKING ALONG SIDEWALKS AND SOME IN THE STREET. I WENT TO USE MY HORN TO WARN THEM OF MY COMING AND IT FAILED TO WORK. ON THE WEEKEND I CRAWLED UNDER THE TRUCK TO REPLACE THE HORNS . I TOOK THEM OFF AND I TESTED THEM. THEY BOTH WORKED. I NOTICED THE MOUNTING AREA FOR THE HORN BRACKETS WERE CORRODED. I CLEANED THEM UP AND THEY WORKED AGAIN. THEN AFTER A DAY OR SO THE HORN STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. THE HORN WORKS SOMETIMES NOW BUT MOST OFTEN THEY DON'T. *NM
STOPPING TO RUN AN ERRAND ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK I ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR OF MY 2000 GMC PICKUP. THE DOOR WHICH HAS A POWER LOCK WOULD NOT OPEN. THE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK HAS APPARENTLY FAILED RENDERING THE DOOR INOPERATIVE. AFTER A SHORT PANIC ATTACK, I HAD TO EXIT MY VEHICLE FROM THE PASSENGER DOOR. THE DOOR COULD NOT BE UNLOCKED FROM THE OUTSIDE WITH A KEY OR FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE USING THE MANUAL DOOR LOCK SLIDER BAR. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD DEMAND AN IMMEDIATE RECALL TO ENSURE A FAILURE OF THE POWER LOCK FAILS SAFE. AS A SAFETY ENGINEER, I BELIEVE THIS COULD RESULT IN A FATALITY BY SOMEONE NOT BEING ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. *NM
I HAD JUST EXITED A BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WHEN THE SPARE TIRE FELL FROM UNDER THE TRUCK. AFTER EXAMINING THE SPARE TIRE RETAINING CABLE I FOUND IT HAD RUSTED IN HALF ALLOWING THE TIRE TO FALL. IF THE TIRE HAD FALLEN OUT 30 SECONDS EARLIER IT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MULTI CAR PILE UP WITH POSSIBLE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO THOSE BEHIND ME. I FEEL THIS CABLE SHOULD BE REPLACED BY STAINLESS STEEL CABLE WHICH WILL NOT RUST OR AT THE VERY LEAST A SECONDARY SAFETY CHAIN BE ADDED TO AT LEAST KEEP THE TIRE WITH THE TRUCK !! I AM NOW AFRAID TO FOLLOW ANY GM MADE TRUCK ! *NM

PARKING BREAK FAILURE ON 2000 GMC SIERRA PICKUP. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE SAME VEHICLE TYPE WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS (NHTSA RECALL #05V161000, GM RECALL NUMBER 05042) HOWEVER THE CURRENT RECALL DOES NOT INCLUDE THE VEHICLES SOLD WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE THE EXACT SAME PARKING BRAKE DESIGN AND THE EXACT SAME PARTS USED IN THE BREAKING SYSTEM. MY TRUCK WILL NOT PASS TEXAS STATE INSPECTION DUE TO THE PARKING BREAK FAILURE. THE STATE INSPECTION CONSIDERS MY TRUCK UNSAFE. DT: THE CONTACT RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V379000 CONCERNING THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. BOTH WHEEL SENSORS WERE CLEANED BY THE DEALER UNDER THIS RECALL. ALTHOUGH THE RECALL WORK WAS COMPLETED THE CONTACT ABS FAILURES. RECURRED. THE ABS ENGAGED AT LOW SPEEDS. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO HIS CERTIFIED DEALER ONCE SINCE THE RECALL WORK WAS COMPLETED, AND THE RIGHT FRONT SENSOR WAS REPLACED. BUT, PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED. HE HAD ANOTHER APPOINTMENT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THIS WEEK TO DETERMINE WHAT KIND OF SOLUTION WAS NEEDED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM.*AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE COMING TO A STOP SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. SHE NOTICED BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER THE ROAD. THE DEALER TOLD THE MANUFACTURER THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN TURNED ONCE DUE TO ACCUMULATION OF RUST. THE DEALER TOLD HER THE RECALL 05V379000 DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM, JUST THE SENSOR. ALSO, THE DEALER TOLD HER THAT BECAUSE SHE DID NOT HAVE AN ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIP, DID NOT SHOW LOYALTY TO A SPECIFIC DEALER, AND WAS NOT A CURRENT CUSTOMER OF GMC, THEY COULD NOT FIX THE VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY. *AK
ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO I TOOK MY 2000 SIERRA TRUCK TO MY GMC DEALER AFTER EXPERIENCING A FEW LOW SPEED ABS ACTIVATIONS AND BRAKE FAILURES CAUSING ME TO DRIFT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. SINCE TANDOM LOG TRUCKS ARE FREQUENT TRAVELERS ON OUR LOCAL ROADS, I WANTED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM RIGHT AWAY. MY GMC SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THAT THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WAS TO REPLACE THE FRONT HUB ASSEMBLIES CONTAINING THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS AT A COST OF $500 EACH FOR PARTS ONLY. I DECIDED AGAINST THAT IDEA AND OPTED TO REMOVE THE ABS FUSE UNDER THE DASH BOARD. I KEPT INQUIRING AT THE DEALER ABOUT ANY GM SPONSORED REPAIRS AND FINALLY READ ABOUT THE AUGUST 29, 2005 RECALL NOTICE WHICH INVOLVED CLEANING, SANDING, AND LUBRICATING THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. THE RECALL SERVICE WORK WAS DONE ON 10/13/05, ACCORDING TO SERVICE BULLITIN #05068, BUT MY TRUCK CONTINUED TO DRIFT INTO TRAFFIC AS BEFORE. THIS TIME I REMOVED THE ABS FUSE FROM UNDER THE HOOD SO I COULD FINALLY USE THE CRUISE CONTROL AGAIN. THE SERVICE MANAGER HAS SINCE TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NO AUTHORIZED FOLLOW UP PROCEDURE OTHER THAN TO REPLACE THE HUB ASSEMBLIES OR SPEED SENSORS, AT MY EXPENSE. THE BRAKES FUNCTION ADEQUATELY WITHOUT THE ABS FUSE, BUT THE RED BRAKE FAILURE LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IS ON CONTINUALLY, AS WELL AS THE AMBER ABS LIGHT. IF I GO BACK TO REMOVING THE INTERIOR ABS FUSE, THE RED LIGHT WILL GO OUT AND SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TO INDICATE ANY OTHER CAUSE FOR BRAKE FAILURE, BUT I SACRAFICE THE CRUISE CONTROL. GM HAS ADMITTED THAT THEY DESIGNED A DEFECTIVE ABS SYSTEM THAT IS PRONE TO RUST AND CORROSION IN CERTAIN "RUST BELT" STATES AND PROVINCES OF CANADA AND THEY ARE AWARE THAT THESE VEHICLES HAVE BEEN UNSAFE TO OPERATE. THE INEFFECTIVE RECALL REPAIRS TO MY TRUCK COST GENERAL MOTORS $46.88 ON THE INVOICE AND YET THEY EXPECT ME TO PAY ABOUT $1,200 TO REALLY REPAIR AND REPLACE THEIR DEFECTIVE PARTS. I DON'T THINK SO.

DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC SIERRA PICKUP TRUCK. WHEN APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT LOW SPEEDS THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. THIS WAS ONLY AT LOW SPEEDS. THERE WERE NO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TO A DEALER. A RECALL WAS ISSUED, BUT IT DID NOT INCLUDE THIS VEHICLE. IT ONLY COVERED THE SALT BELT STATES. THIS TRUCK WAS IN A SOUTHERN STATE.
