TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A BRAKE FLUID LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO AN AUTOMOTIVE SHOP, WHERE THEY CUT OFF THE ROTTEN PORTION OF THE BRAKE LINE AND REPAIRED IT. THE BRAKE FAILURE OCCURRED A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES. THE DEALER DID NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE, BUT A PRIVATE MECHANIC REPAIRED THE BRAKE LINES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
WHILE DRIVING I HAD MY BRAKES FAIL, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. IT WAS A RESULT OF A BROKEN STEEL BRAKE LINE UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT. WHAT I FOUND WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK WAS ALL THE LINES THAT WENT TO THE ABS UNIT WERE BADLY RUSTED. ONE OF MY COWORKERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON HIS 2001 GMC SUBURBAN BUT HE CHUCKED IT UP TO ALL THE CAMPING TRIPS HE WENT ON WHERE HE LEFT HIS TRUCK PARKED OFF ROAD. MY TRUCK HOWEVER ONLY HAS 30,000 MILES AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN TAKEN OFF ROAD. I ALSO FLUSH THE BRAKE FLUID ONCE A YEAR AS PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE, SO THEY CAN'T CLAIM THEY RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I DRIVE MY TRUCK EVERY DAY TO WORK ABOUT ONE MILE AWAY. MY DRIVEWAY IS PAVED AND THE PARKING LOT AT MY PLACE OF WORK IS ALSO PAVED. I DON'T PULL ANY HEAVY TRAILERS OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT WOULD CONTRIBUTE TO THE LINE FAILURE. I AM NOT PUTTING DOWN GM PRODUCTS BECAUSE ALL MY VEHICLES ARE GM VEHICLES INCLUDING TWO ANTIQUES. ONE A 1955 CHEVY WHICH HAD ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES UNTIL I DID A DISC BRAKE CONVERSION SEVERAL YEARS BACK. THE OTHER A 1970 CHEVELLE WHICH IS CURRENTLY A RESTORATION PROJECT BUT THE LINE ARE STILL ORIGINAL. THERE IS OBVIOUS A PROBLEM WITH THE MATERIAL USED TO MAKE THESE LINES. I WAS RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ONLINE AND IT APPEARS THAT THERE ARE TO MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. ALSO GM NO LONGER SELLS THE LINES WHICH MAKES IT A MUCH MORE TROUBLESOME REPAIR. I ALSO DON'T OWN A BOAT, JET SKI OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT WOULD REQUIRE ME TO PUT MY VEHICLE IN SALT WATER.
WAS COMING TO A STOP SIGN AND HAD TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. LUCKILY I WAS THE ONLY ONE ON THE ROAD AND ABLE TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND LIMP IT BACK HOME. COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. FOUND RUSTED BRAKES LINES UNDER THE TRUCK JUST SPRAYING FLUID WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. NEEDS ALL NEW BRAKE LINES FROM FRONT TO BACK. HAVE FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ONLINE. GM SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES AS THEY ARE NOT SAFE! *TR
BRAKE LINE FAILURE. *TR
WE OWN A 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500 PICKUP TRUCK WITH AROUND 55K MILES. LAST DEC 2010 THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE. WE THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS ONE OF THE REAR CALIPERS; HOWEVER, UPON FURTHER DIAGNOSIS, IT WAS DETERMINED THE BRAKES LINES HAD RUSTED AND SUBSEQUENTLY BURST/RUPTURED DURING A BRAKE APPLICATION. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE WAS CLOSE TO HOME WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED AND WE MANAGED TO GET OUR TRUCK HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. WE LEFT OUR TRUCK PARKED OVER THE WINTER TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUE WHEN THE WEATHER WOULD BE MORE COOPERATIVE FOR HAVING OUR VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. I CONTACTED GM EARLY MARCH 2011 REGARDING OUR PROBLEM AND GM SAID A GM AUTHORIZED DEALER HAD TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM. WE HAD OUR PICKUP TOWED TO A LOCAL GMC DEALER AND THE DEALER?S SERVICE DEPT CHARGED US $98 TO INSPECT OUR VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPORTED BACK TO GM THAT THE CORROSION WAS CAUSED BY LACK OF MAINTENANCE. THE DEALERS ESTIMATE WAS $4,657 TO REPLACE THE BRAKE LINES AND PERFORM OTHER MAINTENANCE WORK CAUSED BY THE LINES RUPTURING. IF THE "EBCM FOR THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DID NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED, THEN THE DEALER?S ESTIMATED REPAIR BILL WAS REDUCED TO $3,316. I INFORMED GM THAT I'VE OWNED 10 OR SO VEHICLES IN MY LIFETIME AND NEVER HAD ANY BRAKE LINES CORRODE/RUPTURE DURING A BRAKE APPLICATION NOR DID I HAVE TO HAVE PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON THE BRAKE LINES TO PREVENT THEM FROM CORRODING. OTHER OWNERS OF GM PICKUPS/SUVS HAVE ALSO FILED COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA?S WEBSITE FOR THIS SAME BRAKE LINE FAILURE PROBLEM DUE TO CORROSION. A PRELIMINARY EVALUATION WAS OPENED BY NHTSA TO DETERMINE THE FREQUENCY, SCOPE AND SAFETY CONSEQUENCES OF THE ALLEGED DEFECT IN GM PICKUPS/SUVS MANUFACTURED DURING 1999 TO 2003. THE INVESTIGATION NUMBER IS "PE 10-010" DATED 30 MARCH 2010. THE SUBJECT IS "BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO CORROSION". THIS INVESTIGATION WAS OPENED MARCH 2010 AND I CANNOT LOCATE ANY UPDATES ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE. UPDATED 05/19/11 *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT BREAKAGE,I'M WRITING IN REGARDS TO MY 2001 GMC SIERRA W/5.3 LITER MOTOR,I HAVE RECENTLY DISCOVERED A BOLT BROKEN OFF ON MY HEAD THAT MOUNTS MY EXHAUST MANIFOLD IS A DEFECTIVE OR INFERIOR PRODUCT USED BY GMC THIS REPAIR SHOULD NOT BE NECESSARY FOR ANY VEHICLE IF THE PROPER MATERIALS WERE USED DURING ORIGINAL ASSEMBLY OF THE VEHICLE BY GMC OR ANY OTHER COMPANY IN THAT REGARD,THIS REPAIR IS A VERY EXPENSIVE ACCORDING TO MY MECHANIC TO THE SUM OF $760+TAX TO REPAIR AND IF IT IS NOT FIXED IT CAN LEAD TO CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE AMONGST OTHER EMISSION FAILURES AS WELL AND POSSIBLY FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AS WELL DUE TO EXCESSIVE HOT EXHAUST HEAT ESCAPING FROM THE BROKEN BOLT AREA INTO ENGINE COMPARTMENT,AS FOR THIS COMPLAINT I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THIS MATTER AND HAVE FOUND A LARGE MAJORITY OF OTHER GMC OWNERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM AND ARE NOT VERY HAPPY WITH GMC'S INABILITY TO OWN UP TO RESPONSIBILITY AS A MANUFACTURER TO FIX THIS OBVIOUS AND EXPENSIVE DEFECT DUE TO INFERIOR OR IMPROPER MATERIAL USED ON THESE VEHICLES,SO ANY HELP WITH THIS MATTER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED BY ALL GMC OWNERS AFFECTED BY THIS CONSISTENT PROBLEM.. *TR
BRAKE LINE FAILURE. *TR
THIS PROBLEM CONCERNS MY 2001 GMC SIERRA AND GM'S RECALL NUMBER 05068. THE RECALL CONCERNS THE ABS AND A RUST PROBLEM. I HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED ON OCT. 19, 2005 AND THERE WAS 47,249 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I NOTICED A BRAKING PROBLEM LAST WEEK WITH MY TRUCK. AFTER DOING A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I DECIDED IT WAS PROBABLY A ABS SENSOR PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO THE SAME DEALER THAT DID THE ORIGINAL RECALL. THEY CHECKED WITH GM REGIONAL MANAGER AND SAID IT WAS ALREADY COVERED ONCE AND WOULDN'T COVER IT A SECOND TIME. I HAD THE REPAIR DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP ON DEC. 8, 2010 AND THE MILEAGE WAS 65,849. SO THE EFFECT OF THE RECALL ONLY LASTED 18,600 MILES. I KNOW 5 YEARS HAVE PAST, BUT THE SAME ISSUE IN THAT FEW MILES? I SENT AN EMAIL TO GM ON DEC. 9 AND THEY PHONED ME THIS MORNING. SAID THE VEHICLE AGE WAS SUCH THAT THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING. IF I HAD 150,000 MILES OR SO ON THE TRUCK, I WOULDN'T THINK THAT MUCH ABOUT THIS. HOWEVER, THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT GM ISSUED A RECALL ON AND FROM WHAT A UNDERSTAND, THE ORIGINAL RECALL DID NOTHING BUT REMOVE RUST FROM THE SENSOR AND TREAT THE SURFACE. I WOULD THINK A RECALL WOULD LAST MORE THAT 18,600 MILES. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE HAD ANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME CONCERN ABOUT THE RECALL ONLY STALLING A PROBLEM LATER ON DOWN THE ROAD, BUT WANTED TO MAKE YOU AWARE OF THE CONCERN I HAVE. THE BRAKES WILL FAIL AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN THEY ARE APPLIED AND THE MESSAGE CENTER IN THE DASH DOES NOT GIVE ANY MESSAGE. THANK YOU. *TR
FAILURE OF ABS MODULE CAUSED ABS LIGHT AND RED SERVICE BRAKE LIGHTS TO COME ON. REPLACING BOTH FRONT HUB BEARINGS (INCLUDING BOTH FRONT ABS SENSORS AND WIRING) AND REPAIRING THE GROUND STRAP ON THE FRAME FOR THE ABS SYSTEM DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM HAS NEW CALIPERS ,ROTORS,AND PADS AND A FULL INSPECTION REVEALED NO PROBLEMS OR FAILURES. ABS MODULE IS STILL ON VEHICLE BUT WILL BE REPLACED NEXT. *TR
PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. BRAKE AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AND STAY ON UNTIL ENGINE IS TURNED OFF. NO DETECTABLE CHANGE IN BRAKING. SEPARATELY, BUT ALSO INTERMITTENTLY, AT LOW SPEEDS (NO WARNING LIGHTS) THE ABS IS ENGAGED WHILE BRAKING, MAKING THE VEHICLE HARD TO STOP AT TIMES. THIS SEEMS TO OCCUR MOST FREQUENTLY WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT. SYMPTOMS ARE VERY SIMILAR, IF NOT IDENTICAL TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 05V379000. MANY ANECDOTAL DESCRIPTIONS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM IN 1999-2002 GMC LIGHT TRUCKS CAN BE EASILY FOUND ON THE INTERNET.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES WHEN SHE NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ISSUE WAS PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE AND OFFERED NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 125,000. UPDATED 01/26/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING A DEER, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. FOR ABOUT THE LAST YEAR WE HAVE BEEN HAVING ABS LIGHT ISSUES AND HAVE HAD BRAKES REPLACED, WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED, HUBS REPLACED. MECHANIC ASSURED EVERYTHING FINE. HAVE HAD COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES TWICE IN LAST YEAR. LATEST FAILURE WAS ONE WEEK AGO...BRAKES FAILED, WENT TO FLOOR BUT DID NOT HIT ANYTHING AS WAS IN PARKING LOT. MECHANIC FOUND CORROSION ON THE BRAKE LINE AND REPLACED SECTION OF THE LINE INVOLVED. *TR
BRAKE FAILURE. MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR I DISCOVERED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I WAS SHOCKED TO FIND THAT MY METAL BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND BURST LEAVING ME WITH NO BRAKES. TRUCK IS 2001 SIERRA 2500HD WITH 64,000 MILES. DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, APPLIED BRAKES WHEN APPROACHING A RED LIGHT. BRAKE PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR, TRUCK WENT INTO THE INTERSECTION AND FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. THERE WERE NO INDICATION OF PROBLEM BEFORE THIS OCCURRED. TRUCK TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP. ALL BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND WERE REPLACED. I REQUESTED THAT THE SERVICE STATION SAVE THE RUSTED PARTS WHICH ARE NOW IN MY GARAGE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP IMMEDIATELY AND THE ABS ACTIVATED SUDDENLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED CONSISTENTLY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS COMING TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THERE WAS A RECALL BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 COMPONENT: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK). COMING TO A STOP LEAVING A PARKING LOT ENTERING A 45MPH ROADWAY APPLIED BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR SWERVED MISSED REARENDING VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME JUST MISSED BEING HIT BY CAR COMING ON MAIN ROADWAY FINALLY GOT VEHICLE STOPPED ON OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE MAIN ROAD ON TOP OF THE SIDEWALK/GRASS BY SLAMMING E BRAKE ON. AFTER HAVING TRUCK CHECKED OUT THE BRAKE LINES ARE SO ROTTED THERE IS A HOLE IN ONE UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR AREA. THE HOLE SYSTEM IS SO ROTTED IT NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES FAILED WHILE I WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC NEARLY CAUSING A COLLISION. I WAS STOPPED WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN THE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK MOVED FORWARD SEVERAL FEET. I PUSHED THE PEDAL AGAIN AND THE TRUCK STOPPED BUT THE PEDAL TRAVELED NEARLY ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I LOOKED AND SAW BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM A HOLE IN ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES. THE LINES ARE ALL VERY RUSTY/CORRODED AND THE BLOWN LINE WAS OUTSIDE THE FRAME BELOW THE DRIVERS DOOR. *TR
2001 GMC SIERRA 1500 4X4 MAIN BRAKE LINE RUPTURE FROM CORROSION WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. *TR
I OWN A 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500. ON SEPTEMBER 7 2010 I LEFT MY HOUSE TO GO TO WORK, I STOPPED AT THE MAIL BOX AT THE END OF DRIVEWAY WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. AFTER ABOUT 15 SECONDS THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK STARTED TO ROLL AWAY. I BACKED UP INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED BRAKE FLUID POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE TRUCK. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK I NOTICED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE EXTREMELY CORRODED AND ONE WAS LEAKING. I THANK GOD I WAS NOT DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHEN IT HAPPENED. SCARY UNSAFE!!! *TR
BRAKES ON TRUCK FAIL TO STOP. WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED TRUCK KEEPS JUMPING AND THAN FINALLY COMES TO A STOP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE MALFUNCTIONED AND PROVIDED ERRONEOUS READINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SENDING UNIT INSIDE OF THE FUEL TANK WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
IGNITION SWITCH FAULTY MY CAR NOT IN RECALL TAKES NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO START AND WHEN STARTED AIRBAG CONTINUOUSLY LIGHTS UP WHEN DRIVING.
BRAKE LINES UNDER DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR BURST, SPILLING FLUID IN DRIVEWAY WHILE PARKING TRUCK. UPON INSPECTION, ALL BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED/ROTTED. TRUCK IS SITTING IN DRIVEWAY, UNDRIVEABLE. THANK GOD IT HAPPENED IN DRIVEWAY, NOT ON HILLS WE LIVE ON. USED E-BRAKE TO STOP. *TR
I HAVE OWNED MY 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500HD TRUCK SINCE IT WAS NEW. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 92000 MILES ON IT. WITH THE BRAKE LINE PROBLEM I RECENTLY HAD I FIGURED I SHOULD REPORT THE OTHER ISSUES THAT I DON?T THINK I SHOULD BE HAVING WITH A VEHICLE THAT IS LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD. THE OIL COOLER LINES AND THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES HAVE ALL RUSTED THROUGH AND HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED. ALONG WITH THE LINES, THE CONNECTORS FOR THE LINES HAVE ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CATASTROPHIC FAILURE (THEY RUSTED SO BAD THAT WERE FALLING APART). IF THE VEHICLE WAS 20 YEARS OLD I MIGHT EXPECT THIS PROBLEM, BUT NOT ON ONE LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD AND THE MILEAGE THAT IT HAS. *TR
I HAVE OWNED MY 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500HD TRUCK SINCE IT WAS NEW. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 92,000 MILES ON IT. ON AUGUST 25, 2010 I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH TOWING A 14? TRAILER AS I APPROACHED AN INTERSECTION WHERE THE LIGHT CHANGED. THE ROAD SURFACE WAS ROUGH. I APPLIED THE BRAKES FIRMLY SO THAT I COULD STOP FOR THE INTERSECTION. DUE TO THE ROUGH ROAD THE ABS KICKED IN AND WHEN IT DID MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO BRAKES. I TRIED PUMPING THE BRAKES, BUT NOTHING. BY THE GRACE OF GOD, NO ONE WAS HURT AS I CONTINUED INTO CROSS TRAFFIC AT THE INTERSECTION. AFTER PULLING INTO THE CLOSEST GAS STATION, I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES GOING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD BOTH BLOWN OUT. ONCE I HAD THE VEHICLE HOME I INSPECTED THE BRAKE LINES AND FOUND ALL THE LINES IN EXTREMELY BAD CONDITION. IN FACT THE LINES GOING TO THE FRONT BRAKES WERE SEEPING BRAKE FLUID. I AM WRITING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT A 2001 GMC SIERRA. IT HAS A SAFETY RECALL FOR THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WHICH CAN ALSO DAMAGE THE HUB ASSEMBLY, BUT THE DEALERSHIP STILL WANTS TO CHARGE A WHOPPING $550 REPLACEMENT FEE. THEY SAY THEY CAN NOT REPLACE THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WITHOUT REPLACING THE HUB ASSEMBLY EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN RECALLED. THE BAD SPEED SENSOR IS CAUSING THE ABS TO MALFUNCTION AT LOW SPEEDS AND IT IS ALSO SMELLING LIKE ELECTRICAL FIRE, THE PROBLEM HAPPENS EVERY TIME WE DRIVE HE TRUCK AND I AM WORRIED THAT IT WILL SOON CATCH FIRE. WE WERE TOLD ONE DAY THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, AND THE VERY NEXT DAY, AFTER INFORMING THE DEALER THAT IT WAS UNDER A SAFETY RECALL, THEY TOLD US WE HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HUB ASSEMBLY. I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT THE ENTIRE HUB BEARING IS BAD, BUT I BELIEVE IT PROBABLY WENT BAD AS A RESULT OF THE MALFUNCTIONING WHEEL SENSOR. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM DISAPPOINTED IN MY DEALER AND GMC. *TR
ON 8/4/10, WHILE MOVING IN REVERSE IN MY DRIVEWAY, MY 2001 GMC SIERRA'S BRAKE LINE RUPTURED CAUSING COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO CORROSION ON THE STEEL BRAKE LINE. THE VEHICLE IS 10 YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAS 29,000 MILES ON IT. IT WAS RARELY DRIVEN IN THE WINTER WHEN THERE WAS SNOW, ICE OR SALT PRESENT. AS OF 9/5/10 THE TRUCK REMAINS PARKED AND THE LINES HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED. WHEN THE FAILURE HAPPENED, I CONDUCTED RESEARCH TO FIND THIS FAILURE TO BE A PENDING INVESTIGATION FOR A POSSIBLE RECALL. SIXTY MILES INTO RETURN TRIP HOME WHILE BRAKING FOR STOP LIGHT FROM ABOUT 55-60 MPH, BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP. BRAKES WORKED FINE EARLIER AND FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. LUCKILY I APPLIED THE BRAKES EARLY MISSING A VEHICLE THAT WAS ALREADY STOPPED FOR THE LIGHT BY LESS THAN ONE FOOT. BRAKE FLUID IS LEAKING FROM SEVERELY CORRODED BRAKE LINES UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. ALL BRAKE LINES ARE BADLY CORRODED AND ALL NEED REPLACING. ALL OF THE TRUCK'S METAL BRAKE LINES ARE RECOMMENDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
BRAKING SYSTEM BEGAN FAILING AT LOW SPEEDS (< 10 MPH), ALMOST CAUSING ME TO REAR END VEHICLES WHEN TRYING TO STOP. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER, WHO CLEANED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS AT A COST OF $110. ONE MONTH LATER, THE BRAKES BEGAN FAILING AGAIN AND AFTER RESEARCHING ON-LINE, FOUND A GM RECALL FOR 1999-2002 GMC SIERRAS. CONTACTED GM BUT WAS INFORMED ONLY VEHICLES WITH CERTAIN VIN #'S ARE INCLUDED, AND MINE IS NOT ONE OF THEM. I HAVE CHILDREN AND FREQUENTLY DRIVE IN SCHOOL ZONES AROUND SCHOOL BUSES AND CHILDREN AT LOW SPEEDS (<15 MPH). THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP.

THE ENGINE DIED ON ME IN A PARKING LOT AND WOULDN'T RESTART FOR ABOUT 15-20 MINUTES. THE SECOND INCIDENCE WAS THE SAME. THE THIRD INCIDENT, IT STOPPED ON ME AS I WAS COMING OFF AN EXIT TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAD JUST REACHED 50 MPH WHEN IT CUT OUT. IT WOULD NOT RESTART FOR 15-20 MINUTES. THE NEXT AND FINAL EVENT BEFORE REACHING A RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM...THE TRUCK CUT OUT AS I WAS ON AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND BUSY SECTION OF HIGHWAY DOING 60 MPH. I THANK GOD IT WAS A STRAIGHT STRETCH OR SOMETHING FATAL COULD HAVE OCCURED. IN BETWEEN EACH OF THESE EVENTS, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE MECHANIC AND TRIED DIFFERENT OXYGEN SENSORS AND OTHER REPAIRS THAT I WAS TOLD WASN'T A PROBLEM BUT I HAD NO OTHER EXPLANATION FOR WHAT HAPPENED. THERE WERE NO CODES THROWN FOR THE MECHANIC TO GO BY. AFTER THE LAST EVENT ON THE HIGHWAY, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM I WOULD NOT EXCEPT THE TRUCK BACK UNTIL THEY KNEW WHAT IT WAS. AFTER MUCH ARGUING, THEY AGREED TO REPLACE THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR UPON MY REQUEST. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT THROWING A CODE FOR THAT AND THEY COULDN'T GUARANTEE IT WOULDN'T BREAK OFF DURING REPAIR AND RESULT IN AN EVEN COSTLIER REPAIR. I DIDN'T CARE AT THAT POINT AND TOLD THEM TO DO IT. I HAD READ MANY OTHER REPORTS ON MECHANIC SITES ABOUT THIS SENSOR BEING RECALLED ON SOME BUT NOT ALL GMC 2500 HD TRUCKS SO I INSISTED THE DEALER REPLACE MINE. MINE DID NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALLED VIN# SO IT WAS OUT OF POCKET FOR ME! IT FIXED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM SINCE AND IT'S BEEN 2 YEARS NOW. THE CONTACTS 7 YEAR PERIOD HAD EXPIRED SO THE REPAIRS WOULD BE AT HER EXPENSE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 158,500.

I OWN A 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500 PICKUP TRUCK. DURING EARLY MARCH OF THIS YEAR, MY BRAKES FAILED DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION ON THE BRAKE LINES. TWO OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINES UNDER THE TRUCK WERE SO CORRODED WITH RUST THAT THE BRAKE FLUID RUPTURED THE LINES WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES, AND POURED OUT ON THE GROUND. MY BRAKED PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD ZERO BRAKES WITHOUT WARNING. IT WAS ONLY BY SHEER LUCK THAT I WAS TRAVELING VERY SLOWLY WHEN THIS OCCURRED, AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. THE INCIDENT STARTED WHEN THE OWNER OF REPAIR SERVICE CENTER BACKED MY VEHICLE OUT OF HIS GARAGE, UPON APPLYING THE BRAKES THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED. THIS FAILURE RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING ONTO A MAJOR ROADWAY. FORTUNATELY, THIS BRAKE FAILURE DID NOT RESULT IN A COLLISION WITH PEDESTRIANS, FIXED OBJECT, OR OTHER VEHICLES WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN DEATHS AND INJURIES. UPON INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT TWO STEEL BRAKE LINES HAD RUPTURED AND CAUSED THE BRAKE FLUID TO ESCAPE PROFUSELY THUS BRAKE FAILURE. THESE TWO RUPTURED LINES WERE LOCATED NEXT TO THE ABS ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. THESE STEEL BRAKE LINES HAD EXCESSIVE RUSTING AND ROTTING. THE ENTIRE STEEL BRAKE LINE SYSTEM SHOWED EVIDENCE OF SEVERE RUSTING OR ROTTING. TO CORRECT THIS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS AND DANGEROUS CONDITION I HAD THE ENTIRE STEEL BRAKE LINES REPLACED. I HAVE SECURED THE ORIGINAL, FAILED BRAKE LINES. I'D APPRECIATE AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS SERIOUS CONDITION TO PREVENT POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS COLLISIONS WHICH COULD RESULT IN INJURIES AND/OR DEATH. AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD ALSO BE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE IF THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF DEFECTIVE MATERIAL AND/OR DESIGN. *TR
