GAS GAUGE GOES TO EMPTY WITHOUT WARNING, EVEN AFTER FILLING UP THE TANK. "LOW FUEL" WARNING STAYS ON WHEN ON EMPTY, EVEN WHEN THERE'S PLENTY OF GAS IN THE TANK. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING, GMC SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THERE CUSTOMERS. THIS IS MY SECOND GMC TRUCK, AND I BOUGHT THIS ONE BECAUSE OF THE QUALITY MY 1ST TRUCK WAS GOOD. MY WIFE WANTS ME TO BUY A TOYOTA NEXT TIME, THAT'S ALL SHE EVER OWNED. GMC TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM, OR I'LL WON'T BE COMING BACK FOR A 3RD. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE MAKING A U TURN AT 3 MPH THE POWER STEERING AND ABS FAILED. THIS OCCURRED ON A NORMAL ROAD DURING NORMAL BRAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS SLOWLY DRIVEN HOME. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED HOWEVER NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. WHILE MAKING A NORMAL SPEED U TURN THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED. THEREFORE, DELETING ANY ASSISTANCE TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM. NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGNS 05V005000 AND O5V379000 WERE ISSUED, BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO VIN. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 3500. INTERMITTENTLY, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AT ANY RATE OF SPEED, IT SHUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MUST WAIT UP TO 20 MINUTES TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AT LEAST FOUR TIMES FOR THIS FAILURE. THE FUEL FILTER WAS CHANGED ON ONE OCCASION, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED FOR THE OTHER THREE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 115,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND THEN IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED. THE CONTACT IS A PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC AND HE REPAIRED THE FUEL PUMP, FUEL FILTER, AND FUEL PRESSURE REGULATORS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. HE NOTIFIED THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), EVEN THOUGH THE FAILURE WAS IDENTICAL. HE WAS INFORMED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT HIS OWN EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
MY GAS GAUGE DANCES CONSTANTLY OR JUST STAYS ON EMPTY WITH GAS GAUGE ALWAYS ON GMC SIERRA 2001. SOMETIMES IT SHOWS THE GAS LEVEL CORRECTLY FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES AFTER GETTING GAS THEN IT MOVES AROUND OR GOES TO EMPTY EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT EMPTY. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE'S PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGED AND WHILE UNLOADING A BOAT FROM A TRAILER, THE PARKING BRAKE DISENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACK. AFTERWARDS THE CONTACT INITIALLY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT ENGAGING PROPERLY. THERE WERE NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE PARKING BRAKE. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS CONTACTED REGARDING THE ISSUE. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE BRAKE SHOES OF THE PARKING BRAKE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM PERSISTED NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. PHONE INTERVIEW UPDATE (APRIL 4, 2006): THE COMPLAINANT ACKNOWLEDGED THAT HE HAD INADVERDENTLY LEFT THE SHIFTER BETWEEN 'P' AND 'R'. WHEN HE SAW HIS PICKUP STARTED TO ROLL DOWN THE RAMP, HE IMMEDIATELY JUMP BACK IN AND HIT THE SERVICE BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK.
BRAKES WORKING POORLY AT SLOW SPEEDS AND ABS ENGAGING ON DRY PAVEMENT AT STOP SIGNS. REPLACED ALL PADS AND ROTORS, STILL LITTLE CHANGE IN BRAKING. TOOK VEHICLE TO PRECISION AUTO IN MAYVILLE WI, TO HAVE THEM CHECK BRAKES. TECHNICIAN KEITH PASTORIUS RECOMMENDED REPLACING ABS SENSORS AND HUB ASSY'S ON BOTH SIDES AS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE TRUCKS. CHARGED $60.00 FOR SCAN TOOL DIAGNOSTICS. (INVOICE#7964) I DID RESEARCH ON THE WEB AND FOUND RECALL 05V379000 MATCHING SAME SYMPTOMS I HAVE. I TOOK VEHICLE TO HOLIDAY AUTO, FON DU LAC WI THEY SAID IT WAS DEFINITELY THE SENSORS CORRODED, BUT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED YET IN THE RECALL. THEY FOUND "DOCUMENT 1748482-WHEEL SPEED SENSORS NEED TO BE CLEANED." THEY TRIED TO REMOVE SENSORS, AND THEY BROKE. CHARGED ME $200.00 AND SAID IF THE RECALL INCLUDES MY VEHICLE IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, I COULD BE REIMBURSED. (INVOICE#257356) JAN 27 2006. I FEEL THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE COVERED AS A WARRANTY RECALL (AS DID THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE DEALER) BECAUSE SYMPTOMS AND DEFECTIVE PARTS ARE SYNONYMOUS WITH OTHER RECALL VEHICLES OF THE SAME YEAR, AND WHEN THE DEALER DROVE THE VEHICLE IN THEY ALMOST WENT THROUGH THE SERVICE BAY DOOR FROM POOR BRAKING. INTERMITTENT BRAKE FAILURE WITH ABS & RED BRAKE WARNING LIGHT COMING ON AT THE TIME OF FAILURE RESULTING IN INTERMITTENTLY NO BRAKES. DEALER DIAGNOSED PART BPMV (HYDRAULIC MAIN BRAKE CONTROL VALVE GM PART#88964302 VALVE) FAILURE CAUSED BY CORRODED WIRES. THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPAIR WIRES ONLY ABLE TO REPLACE ENTIRE VALVE. OLD PART IS AVAILABLE FOR YOUR INSPECTION. *JB
MANY PROBLEMS: 4 WHEEL DRIVE SENSOR, FRONT END SUSPENSION, PARKING BRAKE, SERVICE BRAKES, ANTI-LOCK BRAKES, SPEED SENSORS, RADIO, CENTER CONSOLE, ENGINE NOISE RAPPING WHEN STARTING, TAILGATE CABLES, ANTI-THEFT SENSOR, AND NOW THE BATTERY VOLTAGE GAUGE NEEDLE EXCESS DROPPING WHEN STOPPING, ENGINE IDLING TO LOW WHEN STOPPING. DEALER SAYS PROBLEM IS NORMAL. LET'S TEST DRIVE A NEW TRUCK AND SHOW ME IT IS NORMAL. THIS TRUCK IS A LEMON IN MY EYES!*JB

MY 2001 GMC SIERRA PICK UP TRUCK 43K MILES , BRAKES FAILED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A STOP IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE LONG BEACH 24HR FAMILY FITNESS CENTER RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE HITTING A WALL ON JAN 11TH 2006. I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND NO BRAKES AVAILABLE. WHILE FOOT ON THE BRAKE TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THERE CAME AN INDETERMINATE PULSING SOUND AND VIBRATION ON THE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE HIT THE PARKING STRUCTURE WALL AT A VERY SLOW SPEED (ABOUT 3-5 MILES PER HOUR). THE TRUCK IS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THE DEALER FOUND THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL BEARING AND HUB TO HAVE EXCESSIVE PLAY AND WAS REPLACED WITH MY $100.00 DEDUCTIBLE. THE DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK WAS TOTALED AT $2828.20. THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE AND GM HAS TOLD ME THAT THEIR IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM, HOWEVER THERE ARE RECALLS IN THE NORTH EAST STATES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, AND OVER 250+ CASES REPORTED IN CRASHES. LIVING BY THE OCEAN AND WHERE THERE IS SALT AIR PRESENT AND WITH THE 850K TRUCKS RECALLED MAKES SENSE. GM CAN RECALL ALL OF THE TRUCKS FOR TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES NATION WIDE THAT ARE CAUSED BY CORROSION BUT NOT A BRAKE PROBLEM THAT EFFECTS TRUCKS NATION WIDE? *NM

TRANSMISSION DOES NOT PERFORM CORRECTLY. TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE CORRECTLY. MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL WHILE BEING OPERATED AND WOULD NOT GO BACK INTO GEAR. TRANSMISSION FINALLY SHIFTED TO FIRST GEAR, BUT WOULD NOT CHANGE TO ANOTHER GEAR. THERE HAVE BEEN SOFTWARE UPGRADES TO THIS TRANSMISSION, BUT THAT IS NOT CONSIDERED A REPAIR FOR GM. GM SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECAUSE IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE, BUT PROBLEM STARTED BEFORE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP FOR CONCERNS MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT NOTHING WAS REPAIRED. IT WAS STATED THAT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THAT YEAR OF VEHICLE. NOW THEY THINK THE PROBLEM IS PIN POINTED, BUT THE REPAIR COST WOULD BE CHARGED TO ME SINCE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. *JB

THE ABS RECALL IS NOT VALID FOR THE STATE IN WHICH THE CONSUMER LIVES THEREFORE THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE DEALER CLEANED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AREA AND REPLACED THE BROKEN LEFT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. *NM
BRAKE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE IS POOR. COMPARED TO BRAKE PERFORMANCE WHEN NEW, VEHICLE TAKES TOO LONG TO STOP FROM ANY SPEED ABOVE 20 MPH. HAVE REPLACED ALL PADS, ALL ROTORS, AND BLED BRAKES TWICE; NO NOTICEABLE IMPROVEMENT IN PERFORMANCE. THIS WAS FIRST NOTICED AT 80,000 MILES, VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 110,000 MILES. *TR
MY 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500 [XXX] WAS RECALLED FOR UNWANTED ABS BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATION. I PAID FOR THE SAME REPAIR ($363.20) OUT OF MY OWN POCKET LAST OCT. 28, 2004. RECENTLY THEY STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN AND THE RECALL NOTICE CAME OUT. (CAMPAIGN #05V379000). I TOOK MY TRUCK NOV. 2, 2005 TO HARBOR PONTIAC BUICK GMC, 9911 W. 300 NORTH, MICHIGAN CITY, INDIANA. THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE SENSORS WERE BAD AND REPLACED THEM. THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME $85 JUST TO PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER TO CHECK WHAT THE PROBLEM MAY BE. THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT IF IT WAS THE ABS MODULE, IT WILL COST ME $1,111.99 TO REPLACE IT. I AM A MECHANIC AND FEEL THAT IF THE MODULE IS BAD, THE DEFECTIVE SENSORS CAUSED IT AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. MY VEHICLE IS STILL DOING THE EXACT SAME THING IT WAS RECALLED FOR. I FEEL THEY SHOULD HAVE TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO FIX IT AT NO COST TO ME. IN ADDITION, WHEN I TOOK IT IN YESTERDAY FOR THE REPAIRS THEY ONLY HAD (1) SENSOR IN STOCK AND REFUSED TO LET ME TAKE THE TRUCK HOME FOR "LIABILITY" REASONS. BUT TODAY THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT I CAN TAKE IT EVEN THOUGH IT IS STILL DOING THE SAME THING IT WAS RECALLED FOR. THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM IS ACTIVATING AT UNDER 10 MPH.I HAVE CALLED THE GMC HOT LINE AND EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500 TRUCK WHICH IS ONE OF THE MODELS IDENTIFIED AS BEING IN THE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLES VIN NUMBER IS NOT ON THE LIST,AND THAT EVEN THOUGH I AM HAVING THE PROBLEM THAT GMC WILL NOT COVER IT. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THIS VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR THE ABS. THE DEALER PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIRS, BUT IT DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAID THE PROBLEM WAS THE RIGHT FRONT HUB. THE HUB HAS BEEN REPLACED ONE TIME ALREADY. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 12,000 MILES THE VEHICLE STARTED EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS AGAIN. *AK

DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 1500 SIERRA PICKUP TRUCK. HE HAS BEEN HAVING A PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS BRAKES EVER SINCE HE BOUGHT THE TRUCK SIX MONTHS AGO. IT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE ABS KICKS IN AT LOW SPEEDS, AND THERE ARE NO BRAKES. THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL . THEY TOLD HIM TO CALL BACK IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. HE CALLED BACK AND THEY SAID THERE STILL WASN'T ANY RECALL. HE WANTED TO FILE A COMPLAINT IN THE EVENT THIS VEHICLE WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN A FUTURE RECALL. HE HEARD ON THE NEWS THAT RECALL 05V379000 WILL BE ISSUED. *AK
2001 GMC SIERRA HALF TON PICKUP, ABS ACTIVATES AT SLOW SPEEDS, I UNDERSTAND THERE ARE RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM IN OTHER STATES, WHY NOT MINNESOTA. PLEASE HELP, THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM !! *NM
I OWN A 2001 GMC SIERRA. I NOTICED THAT WHEN I PUT MY TRUCK IN 4 LOW ON MY 4X4 (MANUAL SHIFT),AND I PUT THE TRUCK IN REVERSE, YOU CAN FEEL THE TORQUE. WHEN I GO AND PUT THE TRUCK INTO PARK IT STARTS TO GRIND WHILE ENGAGING IN THE PARK POSITION. I BROUGHT IT TO A GMC DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THE TRANSFER CASE TO DO THIS. IF YOU ASK ME, IF THERE IS GRINDING NOISES ON MOVING PARTS, SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT OR "NORMAL". *NM
FRONT WHEEL (BOTH) SPEED SENSOR WERE CORRODED AND WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION. THERE WAS A RECALL, CAMPAIGN NUMBER 05V379000 DATE: AUG 29,2005 THAT DESCRIBES THE EXACT PROBLEM WE HAD WITH THE SENSORS. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN ON 9/07/05 FOR AN INSPECTION AND IT DID NOT PASS DUE TO THE SENSORS. WE WERE ADVISED TO PAY FOR REPAIR ($500) AND SEND RECEIPT IN WHEN OUR VIN NUMBER WAS LISTED ON THE RECALL....TO THIS DAY GM CLAIMS WE DO NOT QUALIFY AND I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A FORMAL COMPLAINT THAT WE SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR OUR REPAIRS. *NM

CONSTANT LOW SPEED ANTILOCK FAILURE. *NM
DT: NOTICED ON AUGUST 30, 2005 THAT THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE BRAKES, BUT THE STATE OF WISCONSIN WAS NOT INCLUDED, WHEN TOUCHING THE BRAKE THE SENSOR DID NOT READ IT AND THE PEDAL PUSHED FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE. COULD COME UP TO A STOP SIGN AND COULD NOT KEEP THE PEDAL PUSHED DOWN. THERE WAS NO FOREWARNING, AND NO MATTER WHAT THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE THE VEHICLE STILL DID THIS. CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID THE CONSUMER HAD TO TO PAY OUT OF POCKET, BUT THEY HAD A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS. *AK

ANTI LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS AND TRUCK WILL NOT STOP. REF:PE 05020 NHTSA INVESTIGATION.
THE BREAKS ON MY 2001 GMC 1500 SIERRA BEGAN KICKING BACK DURING STOPS ON DRY CLEAN PAVEMENT NEAR THE END OF THE STOP. THIS CAUSED ME ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS TO NEARLY HIT CARS IN FRONT OF ME AT STOP SIGNS AND IN PARKING LOTS. I ALSO USE THIS VEHICLE FOR WORK AROUND MY PROPERTY AND HAVE NEARLY RUN INTO TREES AND EQUIPMENT NEAR MY VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER, HAWKINS CHEVROLET OLDSMOBILE, INC. AND WAS TOLD THE ABS SPEED SENSOR WAS CORRODED AND NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THEY REPLACED THE ABS SENSORS ON THE TWO FRONT WHEELS ON 8/17/05 UNDER INVOICE CTCS85615. I WAS ESPECIALLY CONCERNED WITH THIS PROBLEM AS MY OTHER VEHICLE, A 2002 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN BEGAN TO HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM AT THE SAME TIME. I HAD TWO VEHICLES WHICH WERE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT THE SAME TIME. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA ABOUT THE SUBURBAN (ODI NUMBER 10132681) ON 8/12/05 AND ALSO CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE. I WAS DENIED ANY HELP WITH MY PROBLEM AND WAS GIVEN A FILE NUMBER 1-355599627 AND THEREFORE DID NOT CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT MY SIERRA TRUCK. I CONDUCTED SOME INTERNET RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THESE MODEL TYPE VEHICLES IN THE YEARS 1999 TO 2002 WERE RECALLED IN CANADA FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. I ALSO SPOKE TO MY SISTER'S FAMILY ABOUT THEIR 1999 GMC SIERRA AND WERE TOLD THAT THEY TOO HAVE REPLACED THESE SENSORS, BUT DID NOT FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA OR GM. *NM

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE RIGHT SIDE SEATBELT ON MY 2001 GMC SIERRA PICKUP FOR THE THIRD TIME SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK THE SEAT BELT STOPED WORKING IT PULLS TIGHT IN THE SEAT MAKING ITUNUSEABLE WITHOUT WARNING MY WIFE WAS IN SOUTHDAKOTA WITH HER DAUGHTER AND IT TIGHTENED UP THEY HAD TO FINISH THE TRIP WITHOUT IT . I KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL ON THR 2000 TRUCKS FOR SEATBELTS . MY TRUCK WAS MADE IN MID 2000 AND PUT INTO SERVICE IN AUGUST 2000. COULD I HAVE GOTTEN ONE OF THE OLD SEATBELTS . NOW FOR THE SECOND TIME I HAVE TO PAY FOR A NEW SEAT BELT . THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED WAS COVERED UNDERWARRENTY AS IT HAPPENED ONLY SIX MONTHS AFTER THE FIRST TIME NOW ALMOST 2 YEARS TO THE DAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN WEARING BELTS SO NOW FOR 2 WEEKS NO ONE CAN RIDE IN MY TRUCK. I STILL HAVE NOT GOT THE NEW BELT
MY 2001 GM SIERRA TRUCK HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. WHEN STOPPING AT LOW SPEEDS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AND THE TRUCK WILL NOT STOP. DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC 2500 PICK UP TRUCK, AND THE BRAKES HAVE COMPLETELY DETERIORATED. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 18,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING HEARD A BUZZING NOISE FROM THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER CONTINUED DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME, AND LATER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A SERVICE DEALER. THE SERVICE DEALER STATED THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO HAVE BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, AND CALIPERS ON THE BACK. ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE THE ROTORS WILL NEED TO BE TURNED. THE ABS FRONT SPEED SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE SERVICE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE ABS FRONT SPEED SENSOR, REPLACE AT LEAST ONE ROTOR ON THE BACK, A BACK CALIPER, AND THE FRONT ROTORS WILL NEED TO BE TURNED, AND MAY HAVE TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE PADS. *AK
FIRST SHOWING SIGNS OF BRAKES NOT WORKING WHEN I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE PROPERLY, ABOUT A 5 DAY PERIOD BEFORE THEY WERE GETTING TO THE POINT OF NOT ABLE TO STOP WITHOUT IT FAILING. I HAD ALL BRAKES REPAIRED THINKING THAT WAS THE ISSUE. I DIDN'T GET INTO AN ACCIDENT BUT, IT WAS VERY CLOSE TO ME REAR ENDING SOMEONE AT A STOP LIGHT, HAD TO APPLY EMERGENCY BRAKE TO GET TRUCK TO STOP COMPLETELY. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY PUT IN TWO FRONT SENSORS FOR THE ABS SYSTEMS. THEY STATE THEY HAVE HAD TO FEW THEY HAVE REPLACED. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE, THE VEHICLE STARTED ROLLING. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE PARKING FAILED DUE TO THE FRICTION MATERIAL ON THE PARKING BRAKE BEING WORN AWAY. THE PARKING BRAKE ERODED THE ROTOR TO THE POINT WHERE THE ROTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V161000 REGARDING THE PARKING BRAKE . THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
DT: 2001 GMC SIERRA TRUCK. THERE WAS RECALL 04V129000 CONCERNING THE TAILGATE LATCH/CABLE FAILURE. RECALL REPAIRS WERE DONE TWICE, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. TAILGATE FAILED THREE TIMES, AND THE CABLES FAILED ONCE. THE CABLES HAVE BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES. THE FIRST FAILURE WAS ON OCTOBER 14, 2002 AND REPAIRS WERE DONE. THE SECOND FAILURE WAS ON DECEMBER 13, 2004 AND REPAIRS WERE DONE, THE THIRD FAILURE WAS ON AUGUST 8, 2005. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AGAIN. IN THE FINAL RECALL LETTER THE MANUFACTURER INCLUDED A COSTUMER CLAIM FORM. THE CONTACT FILED THE CLAIM FORM ON DECEMBER 13, 2004 FOR $663.87, ON JANUARY 5, 2005 , AND THE CLAIM WAS DENIED BY MANUFACTURER. *AK
BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS FOUND TO BE WORN OUT. MOVEMENT OF THE TIRE AT TOP FROM 1 TO 2 INCHES. NO STEERING OR BRAKING PROBLEMS WERE DETECTED BEFORE THE CONDITION WAS FOUND AS PART OF THE MISSOURI STATE SAFETY INSPECTION. THIS PROBLEM CAN ONLY BE CORRECTED BY REPLACING THE HUB ASSEMBLY. ESTIMATE OF REPAIR COST $1000.00. *JB

DT: THE CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR MANUFACTURER'S RECALL 05500 WORK ON 7-28-05 FOR THE IGNITION DISTRIBUTOR SYSTEM. IT WAS INSPECTED AND REPLACED. . WHEN THE CONSUMER TOOK THE TRUCK TO DEALER IT WAS RUNNING WELL, THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS. ABOUT 30-45 MINUTES LATER CONSUMER WAS CALLED BY THE SERVICE DESK AND INFORMED THAT TRUCK NEEDED A NEW DISTRIBUTOR. HOWEVER, CONSUME R DID NOT BELIEVE THAT TRUCK NEEDED A NEW DISTRIBUTOR. THEN A SERVICE PERSON TOLD CONSUMER THAT VEHICLE NEEDED A DISTRIBUTOR OR THEY COULD TIE A ZIP TIE ON THE DISTRIBUTOR, AND THAT WAS WHAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID. THEY TIED A PLASTIC ZIP TIE ONTO THE DISTRIBUTOR. CONSUMER WAS WONDERING WHY THAT HAPPENED TO THE VEHICLE WHEN IT WAS RUNNING WELL. BEFORE THE RECALL WORK WAS DONE THIRTY MINUTES EARLIER. THE SERVICE PERSON SAID IF THE OWNER DID NOT GET A NEW DISTRIBUTOR THE TIE COULD COME LOOSE AND THE TRUCK WOULD QUIT RUNNING. NEEDLESS TO SAY, CONSUMER WAS NOT SATISFIED THAT THE DEALERSHIP PUT A BRAND AIDE FIX ON THE TRUCK AND PUT IT BACK ON THE ROAD. CONSUME R HAD NOT CONTACTED GM AT THIS POINT. *AK
DT: CONTACT STATES THE ABS BRAKES COME ON AT BELOW 10 MPH. IT CAUSES THE TRUCK NOT STOP. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE LAST MONTH. IT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THERE ARE NO LIGHTS THAT COME ON INSIDE THE TRUCK WHEN THIS OCCURS. HE HAS WRITTEN A COMPLAINT TO THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY TOLD HIM TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. HE HAS NOT TAKEN IT TO A DEALER YET. AS I AM COMING TO A STOP NEAR 10 MPH, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM BEGINS TO PULSE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES SPONGY AND IT IS HARD TO STOP WITHOUT PUMPING THE BRAKES. THIS IS ONLY OCCURRING AT SPEEDS UNDER 10 MPH WITHOUT ANY SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS. *NM
DT: CONTACT STATED THE TREAD ON 2 FIRESTONE TIRE COME OFF. THE FIRST ONE CAME OFF AT 19,657 MILES ON 6-10-05. THE SECOND ONE CAME OFF AT 22,250 MILES ON 7-13-05 WHILE TRAVELING 65 MPH. HE BROUGHT THEM TO FIRESTONE ON 6-10-05. THEY MADE HIM AN OFFER, BUT IT DID NOT SEEM REASONABLE. ONE MONTH LATER, THE SECOND TIRE FAILED, AND THEY PRORATED THE TIRES FOR WEAR. CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE TIRES, AND WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE TIRES WERE THE ORIGINAL ONES THAT CAME ON THE TRUCK THAT HE BOUGHT IN 2001. THEY WOULD NOT GIVE HIM THE NEW TIRES UNTIL HE GAVE THEM THE OLD TIRES. THERE WAS DAMAGE DONE TO TRUCK. HE STILL HAD THE FIRST TIRE THAT WAS DAMAGED. VEHICLE IS PARKED FOR EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME (2+ WEEKS) AND THE MACHINED SURFACE ON THE REAR ROTORS RUSTS AND PEALS OFF LEAVING A ROUGH SURFACE WEARING OUT PADS PREMATURELY AND NECESSITATING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ROTORS
MY ABS SYSTEM PUMPS THE BRAKES AS I SLOW TO A STOP. THIS OFTEN HAPPENS AS I APPROACH A STOP SIGN. I PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP, THE TRUCK SLOWS, AND JUST BEFORE IT STOPS, THE ABS PUMP PUMPS ONCE OR TWICE. I CAN HEAR THE PUMP AND FEEL IT IN THE PEDAL. I OWN A 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500, 4WD, EXTENDED CAB. I REMOVED THE 2 FRONT WHEEL SENSORS, AS WELL AS THE VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR, CLEANED THEM AND REPLACED THEM. I ALSO TESTED EACH SENSOR TO VERIFY THAT IT SHOWED THE PROPER RESISTANCE VALUE. NONE OF THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM.
I HAVE A 2001 SIERRA PICKUP WITH AUTO TRANS AND THE PARKING BAKE IS NOT WORKING. THE OTHER DAY I SET THE BRAKE IN THE DRIVE WAY AND NOTICED THE TRUCK STARTED TO ROLL DOWN THE DRIVEWAY (IT WAS IN NEUTRAL). I ADJUSTED THE BRAKE TO ITS MAXIMUM SETTING AND IT STILL WILL NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE. SINCE THEN I HAVE PULLED THE WHEEL ROTOR TO INSPECT THE PARKING BRAKE. IT IS A ONE PIECE SHOE DESIGN. THE LINING IS WORN FUNNY. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE SAME PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM THAT IS BEING RECALLED IN THE MANUAL TRANS VERSION OF THIS TRUCK. I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE LINING, HOWEVER I DON'T KNOW WHY IT WORE OUT IN THE FIRST PLACE
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS RUST ON THE ABS SENSOR ON THE FRONT AXLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC, AND THEY TOOK THE FRONT HUBS OFF AND CLEANED OUT THE RUST. THE TWO ABS SENSORS WERE ALSO REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING PROPERLY AT THIS TIME. THERE WAS RECALL, 05V379000, AND THIS CONSUMER EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. ABOUT APRIL OF 2005 MY TRUCK STARTED SHUTTING OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. AT THIS TIME IT WOULD RESTART AUTOMATICALLY WITH NO OTHER PROBLEMS. TOOK IT IN TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT THE TRUCK WAS MISSING A STALL CODE AND THAT THEY HAD UPDATED IT. IN SEPTEMBER IT STARTED TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN, I HAD ASKED SOME MECHANICS I KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE AN IGNITION PROBLEM. WE STARTED CHECKING ALL IGNITION CONNECTIONS, FUSES, GROUNDS ETC. IT STOPPED FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND STARTED DOING IT AGAIN. IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WERE IT WILL SHUT OFF THREE AND FOUR TIMES PER TRIP. WHILE MYSELF AND TWO OTHER PASSENGERS WERE WORKING IN LUGOFF SC IT SHUT OFF ON US IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY, NEARLY CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND THAT IF IT DID IT AGAIN TO CALL THEM AND THEY WOULD SEND A SERVICE TECH OUT TO LOOK AT IT. I THINK THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN THAT GM NEEDS TO LOOK INTO. *JB
