TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST COMPRESSION AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO COURTESY CADILLAC (1345 EVANGELINE THRUWAY, BROUSSARD, LA) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT ONE OR MORE FUEL INJECTORS WERE FAULTY AND REMAINED OPEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT ALL EIGHT FUEL INJECTORS WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED APPROXIMATELY FIVE YEARS; HOWEVER, BUT THE FAILURE RECENTLY RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.

EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK DUE TO BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REGULARLY AND PROPERLY MAINTAINED. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS GM VEHICLE DUE TO DEFECTIVE PARTS. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW FROM A LOCAL GMC DEALER. *TR
ENGINE STALLED AFTER PULLING OUT ONTO HIGHWAY THEN RESTARTED, ENGINE STALLED AT STOP LIGHT RESTARTED 5 MINUTES LATER , ENGINE STALLED IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING THEN STARTED TWO MINUTES LATER. GM RECALL #06083 CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FROM DEC. 11, 2007 NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MORE OR MAYBE ALL 2001S WITH 8.1L V8 NOT JUST THE VIN # THAT ARE LISTED. *TR
MY 2001 GMC SIERRA 3500 WITH A 8.1L V8 ENGINE STALLED WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. IT WOULD NOT RESTART UNTIL A "COOL" DOWN PERIOD. THIS PROBLEM SURFACED AS NOT BEING ABLE TO START THE ENGINE AFTER IT HAD RUN AND THEN SET FOR 30 - 60 MINUTES AND WOULD NOT START UNTIL SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO START IT. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR THE LAST YEAR AND HAS PROGRESSED TO THE STALL ON THE FREEWAY. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET AN ENGINE FAILURE CODE FROM THE VEHICLE LISTED AS CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILURE. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THE RECALL FROM GMC (06083 -- CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR ENGINE STALL) AND CALLED THE DEALER WHICH INFORMED ME THAT MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I THEN CALLED GMC'S CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EXPLAINED THAT I'M HAVING THE EXACT PROBLEMS LISTED ON THE EXACT VEHICLE WITH THE EXACT ENGINE LISTED. ALSO I HAVE SINCE FOUND 3 OTHER COMPLAINTS WITH NHTSA OF THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM ON OTHER VEHICLES THAT WERE NOT COVERED. IT IS EVIDENT TO ME THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS BEYOND THE BLOCK OF VIN'S GMC RECALLED AND SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO COVER THESE OTHER VEHICLES. GMC DOES NOT SEEM TO BE INTERESTED IN EXTENDING THIS RECALL AND IT SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AS A VEHICLE STALLING ON THE FREEWAY IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT SHOULD BE RESOLVED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT NEEDED TO REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY CONFIRMED THE VIN FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V521000(ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 29,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HE WAS ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC ALSO ADVISED THAT THE FUEL LINES NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000. 2001 GMC SIERRA - 8.1 ENGINE. ENGINE SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING AND/OR FAILURE TO RESTART AFTER SHUT DOWN. THERE WAS AN NHTSA CASE FOR RECALLS, 07V521000, BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL CAMPAIGN 06083 BY GM FOR A DEFECTIVE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. GM WOULD NOT INCLUDE MY VEHICLE IN THE RECALL IN SPITE OF IT BEING AN IDENTICAL FAILURE. I BELIEVE THERE ARE MORE VEHICLES WITH DEFECTIVE SENSORS THAT WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL RECALL. IT COST OVER $700 TO REPAIR WHAT I BELIEVE IS A BIG SAFETY PROBLEM. I WAS LUCKY TO NOT GET IN AN ACCIDENT AFTER MY ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE SHUT DOWN RESULTED IN A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES SO IT WAS DIFFICULT TO COAST TO A SAFE LOCATION ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT BREAKAGE,I'M WRITING IN REGARDS TO MY 2001 GMC SIERRA W/5.3 LITER MOTOR,I HAVE RECENTLY DISCOVERED A BOLT BROKEN OFF ON MY HEAD THAT MOUNTS MY EXHAUST MANIFOLD IS A DEFECTIVE OR INFERIOR PRODUCT USED BY GMC THIS REPAIR SHOULD NOT BE NECESSARY FOR ANY VEHICLE IF THE PROPER MATERIALS WERE USED DURING ORIGINAL ASSEMBLY OF THE VEHICLE BY GMC OR ANY OTHER COMPANY IN THAT REGARD,THIS REPAIR IS A VERY EXPENSIVE ACCORDING TO MY MECHANIC TO THE SUM OF $760+TAX TO REPAIR AND IF IT IS NOT FIXED IT CAN LEAD TO CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE AMONGST OTHER EMISSION FAILURES AS WELL AND POSSIBLY FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AS WELL DUE TO EXCESSIVE HOT EXHAUST HEAT ESCAPING FROM THE BROKEN BOLT AREA INTO ENGINE COMPARTMENT,AS FOR THIS COMPLAINT I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THIS MATTER AND HAVE FOUND A LARGE MAJORITY OF OTHER GMC OWNERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM AND ARE NOT VERY HAPPY WITH GMC'S INABILITY TO OWN UP TO RESPONSIBILITY AS A MANUFACTURER TO FIX THIS OBVIOUS AND EXPENSIVE DEFECT DUE TO INFERIOR OR IMPROPER MATERIAL USED ON THESE VEHICLES,SO ANY HELP WITH THIS MATTER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED BY ALL GMC OWNERS AFFECTED BY THIS CONSISTENT PROBLEM.. *TR
I HAVE OWNED MY 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500HD TRUCK SINCE IT WAS NEW. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 92000 MILES ON IT. WITH THE BRAKE LINE PROBLEM I RECENTLY HAD I FIGURED I SHOULD REPORT THE OTHER ISSUES THAT I DON?T THINK I SHOULD BE HAVING WITH A VEHICLE THAT IS LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD. THE OIL COOLER LINES AND THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES HAVE ALL RUSTED THROUGH AND HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED. ALONG WITH THE LINES, THE CONNECTORS FOR THE LINES HAVE ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CATASTROPHIC FAILURE (THEY RUSTED SO BAD THAT WERE FALLING APART). IF THE VEHICLE WAS 20 YEARS OLD I MIGHT EXPECT THIS PROBLEM, BUT NOT ON ONE LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD AND THE MILEAGE THAT IT HAS. *TR
THE ENGINE DIED ON ME IN A PARKING LOT AND WOULDN'T RESTART FOR ABOUT 15-20 MINUTES. THE SECOND INCIDENCE WAS THE SAME. THE THIRD INCIDENT, IT STOPPED ON ME AS I WAS COMING OFF AN EXIT TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAD JUST REACHED 50 MPH WHEN IT CUT OUT. IT WOULD NOT RESTART FOR 15-20 MINUTES. THE NEXT AND FINAL EVENT BEFORE REACHING A RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM...THE TRUCK CUT OUT AS I WAS ON AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND BUSY SECTION OF HIGHWAY DOING 60 MPH. I THANK GOD IT WAS A STRAIGHT STRETCH OR SOMETHING FATAL COULD HAVE OCCURED. IN BETWEEN EACH OF THESE EVENTS, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE MECHANIC AND TRIED DIFFERENT OXYGEN SENSORS AND OTHER REPAIRS THAT I WAS TOLD WASN'T A PROBLEM BUT I HAD NO OTHER EXPLANATION FOR WHAT HAPPENED. THERE WERE NO CODES THROWN FOR THE MECHANIC TO GO BY. AFTER THE LAST EVENT ON THE HIGHWAY, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM I WOULD NOT EXCEPT THE TRUCK BACK UNTIL THEY KNEW WHAT IT WAS. AFTER MUCH ARGUING, THEY AGREED TO REPLACE THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR UPON MY REQUEST. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT THROWING A CODE FOR THAT AND THEY COULDN'T GUARANTEE IT WOULDN'T BREAK OFF DURING REPAIR AND RESULT IN AN EVEN COSTLIER REPAIR. I DIDN'T CARE AT THAT POINT AND TOLD THEM TO DO IT. I HAD READ MANY OTHER REPORTS ON MECHANIC SITES ABOUT THIS SENSOR BEING RECALLED ON SOME BUT NOT ALL GMC 2500 HD TRUCKS SO I INSISTED THE DEALER REPLACE MINE. MINE DID NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALLED VIN# SO IT WAS OUT OF POCKET FOR ME! IT FIXED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM SINCE AND IT'S BEEN 2 YEARS NOW. I AM STILL UPSET AT THE LACK OF AGREEMENT ABOUT EXTENDING THE RECALL ON THIS ISSUE TO OTHER VIN#'S. THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE GOTTEN NOT ONLY ME KILLED, BUT MY 2 YOUNG SONS WHO RIDE WITH ME EVERYWHERE. I AM VERY ANGRY AT THE MAKERS! NOTHING WILL FIX THAT. EVER.
