DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 45 MPH UNDER NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE HYDRAULIC REAR BRAKE ROTORS RUSTED, AND STOPPING DISTANCE WAS INCREASED. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE NATURE OF THE FAILURE WAS PERMANENT GRADUAL WORSENING. THE CONSUMER STATED THE REAR ROTORS HAD RUSTED SO BADLY THAT THEY FLAKED OFF IN PIECES. UPDATED 11/30/06. *JB
I HAVE A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 EXTENDED CAB PICKUP WITH 52000 MILES ON IT. THE FRONT HUB BEARINGS ARE ALREADY REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. ON CONSULTING WITH THE LOCAL GARAGE, I DISCOVERED THIS WAS NOT AN ANOMALY, BUT , RATHER, A COMMON OCCURRENCE. MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OVER THE YEARS WITH GM PRODUCTS IS THAT FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS COULD BE PACKED OR REPLACED AT REASONABLE COST, AND THE PARTS PROVIDED AUDIBLE NOTICE OF FAILURE. THE CURRENT DESIGN DOES NOT PROVIDE THIS SAFETY FEATURE. THE ENTIRE HUB MUST BE REPLACED WHEN IT FAILS. AT A COST JUST QUOTED OF JUST BELOW $450 PER WHEEL. THE UNFORTUNATE FACT IS THAT IT IS UNKNOWN HOW MANY OWNERS OF GM PRODUCTS FROM 1998 ONWARD ARE DRIVING WITH WHEEL HUBS THAT ARE SO WORN THAT A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE COULD CAUSE LOSS OF A WHEEL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.. UNTIL THE RESOLUTION OF THIS DESIGN SHORTFALL, HIGHWAY DRIVING IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *NM
WHEN I PULLED INTO A LEFT TURN LANE AND TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT NEARLY TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO BRAKES LUCKILY THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD OR IN THE INTERSECTION AT THE TIME SO I WENT ON THROUGH AND THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, I WAS CAMPING AT THE TIME AND I GOT THE TRUCK BACK TO THE CAMPGROUND WHEN I BACKED THE TRUCK INTO THE CAMPSITE AND APPLIED THE BRAKES THEY STARTED WORKING NORMALLY, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG THEY EVEN SAID THAT THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES DO THE SAME THING AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THEM AND THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE. *NM
WHEN IS THERE GOING TO BE A RECALL ON THE RUSTED BRAKE LINES, I ALREADY CRASHED IN 2006 WITH THE ABS SYSTEM WHICH FAILED AND WAS A FAILURE TO START WITH AND WHEN THEY FIXED, THE FIX ONLY LASTED FOR 14 MONTHS AND SINCE THEN I HAVE BE DRIVING WITH CONVENTIONAL BRAKES,SO ARE THEY WAITING FOR ME AND OTHERS TO CRASH AGAIN WITH THESE RUSTY BRAKE LINES. P.S. GOING ON 3RD. SET OF ROTORS IN THE REAR, ONLY 65,000 MI. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ENTERING A DRIVEWAY AT 3 MPH, THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE FROM HITTING A LIGHT POLE. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER REPAIRS INDICATED IN RECALL # 05V379000 REGARDING SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK WERE PERFORMED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE ABSENCE OF BRAKING ACTION AT LOW SPEED HAPPENED DUE TO MALFUNCTIONING OF THE SPEED SENSORS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE OUTCOME WAS A REFERRAL TO CUSTOMER SERVICE WHERE A REPRESENTATIVE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CALLED BACK IN 48 HOURS HOWEVER NO RETURN CALL WAS RECEIVED. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED DISSATISFACTION WITH THE RECALL PERFORMED IN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED IN THE JOB ORDER INSPECTION OR REPLACEMENT OF THE AFFECTED SENSORS BUT NO REPLACEMENT WERE PERFORMED. *AK
2002 GMC SIERRA THE GALVANIZED STEEL SUPPORT CABLES THAT RETAIN THE TAILGATE IN THE OPEN POSITION CORRODE THROUGH AND BREAK WHERE CARGO OR PEOPLE ON THE TAILGATE MAY FALL. CARGO FALLING OF THE TAILGATE VERY NEARLY STRUCK A NEARBY PERSON AND INJURY WAS LUCKILY AVOIDED. THIS HAS OCCURRED TWICE ON THE VEHICLE, THE FIRST TIME GMC REPLACED THE CABLES UNDER WARRANTY AND SUGGESTED THAT THIS WAS A RANDOM FAILURE. MOST RECENTLY THEY HAVE REFUSED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. GMC WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS AND REFUSED TO TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION.
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT MAKES CLUNKING NOISE. FIRST REPAIRED ON 11-13-03. HAS BEEN REPAIRED FOUR OTHER TIMES. IS CURRENTLY AT DEALERSHIP BEING FIXED AGAIN ON 8-11-06. EACH TIME IT HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIR, THE STEERING SHAFT HAS BEEN LUBRICATED. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS OVERHEATED AND SCORCHED THE REMAINING LIGHT BULB SOCKETS WITHOUT WARNING. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY THE DEALER, THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO REPLACE THE LIGHT BULBS AS THIS PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED ON THREE OCCASIONS. ALL INCIDENTS OCCURRED DURING ACCELERATION WHILE TRAVELING 25 TO 35 MPH. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENTS AND THE VEHICLE HAD NO PROBLEMS RESTARTING. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK UPDATED 11/16/2006 - THERE WERE SUBSEQUENT PROBLEM RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, AND AS MANY AS 3 TO 5 STALLING EPISODES PER WEEK. NOT ALL INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING. SOME INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE AT IDLE, AND AT A STOP. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND REPLACED IT. RECENTLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY TRANSMISSION SELECTOR POSITION SENSOR AND REPLACED IT. THE ABS ACTIVATED WHILE DRIVING ON DRY PAVEMENT. THE DEALER FOUND IT NECESSARY TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. *NM
I WAS TOWING MY 33 FT 2000 THOR TRAVEL TRAILER, USING MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD CREW CAB DIESEL TRUCK. AS I PULLED INTO MY STORAGE LOT THE TRAILER HITCH RECEIVER THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE WELDED TO A FACTORY INSTALLED LOAD LEVELER TRAILER HITCH COMPLETELY BROKE OFF. THE SAFETY CHAINS AND THE SAFETY BRAKE PULL WIRE WERE ALL ATTACHED TO THE HITCH RECEIVER. SUBSEQUENTLY THE TRAILER SEPARATED FROM THE TRUCK WITH NO SAFETY EQUIPMENT ATTACHED. THE TRAILER CRASHED TO THE GROUND DAMAGING THE FRONT TOWING PART OF THE TRAILER, SLIDE OUT HYDRAULICS AND AIR CONDITIONER SO FAR. I TOOK THE GMC TRUCK AND THE BROKEN HITCH TO RYDEL GMC IN VAN NUYS, CALIFORNIA. THEY SAID THAT IT LOOKED LIKE THE WELD HAD NEVER TAKEN BECAUSE THERE WAS PAINT BETWEEN THE WELD AND THE TRUCK BODY. RYDEL SAID THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT THE FACTORY REP TO GET AN OK TO FIX THE HITCH. THE FACTORY REP TOLD THEM THAT MY ''GOOD WILL TIME'' WAS USED, WHATEVER THAT MEANS, AND THAT I HAD TOO MANY MILES ON THE TRUCK (67,000), AS IF MILEAGE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT. I ASKED IF THEIR TOWING HITCHES HAD A LIMITED MILEAGE WARRANTY, I GOT NO ANSWER. I TOOK THE PART OF THE HITCH THAT BROKE OFF AND THE TRUCK TO A CERTIFIED WELD SHOP FOR A SECOND OPINION ON THE QUALITY OF THE WELD. I WAS TOLD THAT MOST OF THE WELD HAD NEVER ADHERED TO THE METAL AND THE PART OF THE WELD THAT BROKE NEVER BONDED TO THE STEEL. THE CERTIFIED HITCH WELD SHOP SAID IT WILL COST $550.00 TO REMOVE THE OLD HITCH AND INSTALL A NEW ONE. I FEEL THAT THE DEFECTIVE WELD ON THE HITCH COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ROAD HAZARD AND POTENTIAL LOSS OF LIFE. I JUST PRAY THAT THE THOUSANDS OF TRAILERS THAT BREAK OFF THEIR TOWING VEHICLES ARE NOT THE RESULT OF DEFECTIVE WELDS. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. WHENEVER THE CONTACT DEPRESSES THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE PEDAL PULSATES AND ACTS AS IF IT DOES NOT WANT TO GO DOWN PROPERLY. THE BRAKES MAKE A NOISE AND THE VEHICLE DOES NOT STOP PROPERLY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300.
AT 68,994 MILES MY TRUCK LOST 2ND GEAR, DRIVE, OVERDRIVE AND REVERSE. A NEW REACTION SHELL WAS INSTALLED. AT 90,027 MILES AND 360 DAYS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AND A BEAST HEAVY DUTY REACTION SHELL WAS AVAILABLE AND INSTALLED. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED THERE WAS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED, THE DEALERSHIP NOTICED THE ROTOR HAD A 1" WIDE AND 3" LONG GAUGE IN THE METAL ABOUT "DEEP. THE CONTACT DETERMINED THIS WAS DUE TO POROSITY. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONTACT THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON THE ROTORS.
2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 P/U W/4.3 LT. V-6, I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE A/C CONDENSATION LINE COVERED THREE TIMES WITH THE FOAM INSULATION FROM MY DEALER. THEY ALSO HAVE TO CLEAN THE CORROSION FROM THE DISTRIBUTOR, REMOVE THE SCREEN IN THE BOTTOM OF THE DISTRIBUTOR, CLEAN THE SPARK PLUGS AND REPLACE THE CAP AND ROTOR ON EACH OCCASION. MY TRUCK IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AGAIN TO HAVE THE DISTRIBUTOR REPLACED. THIS IS AT A COST OF AROUND $680.00 TO REPLACE THE DISTRIBUTOR , NEW PLUGS DUE TO FOULING AND WIRES. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH GENERAL MOTORS AND TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES REGARDING THE TEMPORARY FIX (BAND-AID). THE AIR CONDITION CONDENSATION LINE IS LOCATED DIRECTLY ABOVE THE DISTRIBUTOR AND THEY REFUSE TO MOVE IT. IT HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY APPARENT THEIR REPAIR IS NOT A FIX BUT A TEMPORARY SOLUTION TO GET YOU OUT OF WARRANTY. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL SENT TO ME BUT DOES NOT SHOW IN YOUR LISTINGS FOR THE SUBJECT VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS, YOUR VEHICLE USUALLY GIVES NO SIGNS BEFORE LEAVING YOU STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. MY QUESTION IS WHY THE DEALER GETS AWAY WITH A TEMPORARY FIX AND NOT A RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM ? I BELIEVE THE AIR CONDITION CONDENSER LINE SHOULD BE RELOCATED AWAY FROM THE DISTRIBUTOR ALTOGETHER. GMC IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND RECTIFIED THE RE-ENGINEERING OF THE A/C LINE ROUTE IN THE 2003 MODELS. *NM
VEHICLE HAD SEVERE SYMPTOMS OF NEEDING BRAKE REPLACEMENT AT 32,000 MILES (REARS) AND AGAIN AT 42,000 MILES (FRONTS). A BURNING SMELL COUPLED WITH VERY HOT BRAKE COMPONENTS AND SEVERE PEDAL PULSATION WAS NOTICED. WHEN REPAIRS WERE DONE THE BRAKES WERE FOUND TO BE PREMATURELY WORN OUT AND ALL PARTS SHOWED UNUSUALLY SEVERE RUST DAMAGE. THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE DELAMINATED AND FALLING APART. THE REAR BACKING PLATES, WHICH USUALLY LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE, HAD HOLES RUSTED THROUGH THEM. THE VALVES WERE SO RUSTED THAT THEY NO LONGER CAN BE USED TO BLEED THE OLD FLUID OUT AND WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE AN INTERNAL RUST CONDITION THAT CAN CAUSE BRAKE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, ON A VEHICLE THAT HAD INADEQUATE BRAKES TO BEGIN WITH, A LARGE PORTION OF THE ROTOR SURFACES WAS NOT EVEN BEING CONTACTED BY THE BRAKE PAD. THIS CAUSED AN UNSAFE CONDITION WHICH DRASTICALLY INCREASED THE STOPPING DISTANCE OF THIS VEHICLE. NEW PARTS WERE INSTALLED AND THE OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. *JB

2002 GMC SIERRA STALLS WHILE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS AND NORMAL DRIVING. 2 NEAR ACCIDENTS, SOMETIMES THE ENGINE WILL CRANK WITH A NO START CONDITION. KILLED ONE OF MY AC DELCO BATTERIES. HAD TO REPLACE BATTERY AND CRANK POSITION SENSOR. *JB
DURING PERIODIC SAFETY INSPECTION THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE REAR DISC BRAKE ROTORS WERE BADLY RUSTED AND PROVIDING LITTLE BRAKING ACTION. VEHICLE IS FOUR YEARS OLD WITH ONLY 29,000 MILES ON IT. REPLACED AT A COST OF $850. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGE AT LOW SPEEDS. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000, REGARDING THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
WITHIN 60 DAYS OF PURCHASE (01/19/2002 I REPORTED TO THE SELLING DEALER (DENNIS DILLON GMC, BOISE, ID) THAT THE HITCH BOX WAS EXTREMELY LOOSE ALLOWING THE TOWING HITCH TO MOVE BOTH VERTICALLY AND HORIZONTALLY WHEN INSTALLED ON THE TRUCK. HAVING OVER 12 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN THE RV INDUSTRY I KNEW IT TO BE WORRY SOME. I PRESSED THE POINT SUCH THAT A REGIONAL REP LOOKED AT IT. THE EVENTUAL RESPONSE WAS THAT THE HITCH WAS BUILT TO SPECIFICATION AND THEY FELT NOTHING WAS WRONG. ANNUAL INSPECTION OF RECEIVER HITCH (TRAILER HITCH) IN EARLY 2006 SHOWED A MARKED TWIST OF THE RECEIVER BOX THAT THE TRAILER HITCH SHANK RIDES IN. CLOSER INSPECTION OF THE HITCH BOX SHOWED A SEPARATION AT THE FORWARD END OF THE HITCH BOX AND A PRONOUNCED DISTORTION OF THE WEEP HOLES IN THE TORQUE TUBE (CROSS MEMBER). I PHOTOGRAPHED THE OLD HITCH AND REPLACED IT WITH A NEW EAZ LIFT HITCH ON 4/14/2006. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 10 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES THE ABS PULSATES. THE VEHICLE VEERS TO THE LEFT AND THE STOPPING DISTANCE IS INCREASED. UPON INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THERE IS CORROSION ON THE LEFT ABS SENSOR. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000, REGARDING THE ABS. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE VEHICLE IS A 2002 GMC SIERRA K3500. UPDATED 04/17/06. *JB
I AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY PARKING BRAKE WEARING OUT PREMATURELY AGAIN AND POSSIBLY ROLLING AND COLLIDING WITH ANOTHER OBJECT. THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES WERE REPLACED WITH ONLY 38,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER SAID THEY WERE WORE DOWN TO METAL AND THAT IT WAS MY FAULT FOR NOT HAVING THE BRAKES TOTALLY DISASSEMBLED AND THEN ADJUSTED. *JB
TL*- THE CONTACT HAS A 2002 GMC SIERRA AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE KEEPS SHUTTING OFF COMPLETELY. WHEN THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER IT ALSO LOSES STEERING AND BRAKING ABILITY. THIS FAILURE HAS HAPPENED TO THE CONTACT 20 OR MORE WITHIN THE PAST YEAR. THE STALLING HAD HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ANYWHERE BETWEEN 5-65 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THEY HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP FOUR TIMES AND REPLACED THE SENDING UNIT TWICE WITHIN A YEAR. THE CONTACT RECENTLY HAD VEHICLE AT THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THEY CAN'T PINPOINT THE FAILURE. ON 03/01/07 WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEED BETWEEN (50-65 MPH). THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WAIT TEN MINUTE AND TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. HE LOOKED UP THE HISTORY OF THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER ALSO EXPERIENCE THE SAME FAILURE. THE CONTACT CAN PROVIDE INVOICE REPAIRS IF NEEDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71715.
I HAVE 2 OF THESE VEHICLES AND KNOW A FEW FRIENDS WITH THE SAME. THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL GAUGE IN THESE VEHICLES ARE FACTORY DEFECTIVE. THEY ARE VERY, VERY INACCURATE IN TELLING YOU HOW MUCH FUEL YOU HAVE. I HAVE RUN OUT OF FUEL MANY, MANY TIMES WITH 1/2 TANK, 3/4 TANK FULL OF FUEL. THIS IS VERY VERY DANGEROUS SINCE YOU HAVE NO WARNING AND LOSE ALL STEERING AND BRAKES WITH NO ENGINE POWER. A LOT OF MY FRIENDS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH VERY SIMILAR MAKES AND MODELS. *TR
2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 LOW SPEED ABS FAILURE. CURRENTLY UNDER RECALL # 05V37900 AND GM RECALL 05-068. AFTER RECALL WAS PERFORMED THE ABS IS STILL FAILING AND THIS VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP WHEN UNDER 5 MPH. THE TRUE FAILURE MODE IS NOT THE ABS SENSOR CORRODING, IT IS THE WHEEL BEARING HAVING EXTREME WEAR AND IT RENDERS THE HALL EFFECT SIGNAL THAT THE SENSOR READS BAD. DETAILS: AT 50K MILES I HAD THE SAME LOW SPEED ABS FAILURE. THE TRUCK WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AT THIS TIME AND I HAD TO PURCHASE GENUINE GM REPLACEMENT PARTS AND REPLACE BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARING AND SENSORS ON MY OWN DIME. THIS FIXED THE FIRST ABS FAILURE. THEN THE RECALL CAME OUT FOR JUST THE WHEEL SENSOR, NOT THE BEARING. NOW 12K MILES LATER (TRUCK HAS 66K MILES) THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL BEARING IS NOW SO SLOPPY THAT THE ABS SENSOR WILL NOT READ THE HALL EFFECT. THIS CAUSES THE LOW SPEED ABS FAILURE MODE AGAIN. I HAVE PULLED THE ABS FUSE UNDER THE HOOD SO THAT THE LOW SPEED FAILURES STOP, BUT NOW THE TRUCK HAS NON FUNCTIONING ABS. LASTLY, AFTER 12K MILES ON THE REPLACEMENT GM BEARINGS THERE IS SO MUCH SLOP IN THE BEARING THAT THE DEALER HAS SUGGESTED THAT I SHOULD NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE DUE TO SAFETY REASONS. THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL IS CLOSE TO FALLING OFF THE VEHICLE. I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800 GMC TRUCK BY THE RECOMMENDATION OF MY DEALER AND GM CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HAS YET TO CONTACT THE DEALER FOR RESOLUTION IN THIS MATTER. MY ONLY CHOICE IT TO REPLACE THE WHEEL BEARING AT MY OWN COST AND I HAVE ALREADY DONE THAT ONCE 12K MILES AGO ONLY TO HAVE THE FAILURE OCCUR AGAIN. I WILL HAVE TO CONTINUE REPLACING THE WHEEL BEARINGS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS VEHICLES SERVICE LIFE TO MAINTAIN A VEHICLE THAT CAN SAFELY TRANSPORT MY FAMILY. THE BRAKES ON MY GMC SIERRA WERE RECALLED BECAUSE THEY CAN FAIL BETWEEN 3 AND 10 MILES AN HOUR. I TOOK THE TRUCK IN TO BE FIX, HOWEVER, I AM STILL HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE BRAKES- (I BELIEVE IT IS WITH THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR -THIS IS HOW IT WAS LISTED ON THE RECALL PAPER). THEY SEEM TO FAIL MORE UNDER DAMP/MOIST/SLIPPERY CONDITIONS. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO TELL THEM THAT THE TRUCK WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS AFTER THEY HAD WORKED ON THE BRAKES THEIR RESPONSE WAS "DEAL WITH IT". I AM SORRY BUT I CANNOT JUST DEAL WITH BRAKES THAT YOU CANNOT TRUST. WHAT KIND OF HELP CAN I GET WITH THIS. THEY HAVE WORKED ON THE BRAKES FOUR TIMES....AND THEY ARE STILL NOT GOOD. YESTERDAY THEY TOOK IT AND DROVE IT....IT WAS A NICE AND NOT BAD CONDITIONS AND THEY BROUGHT IT BACK AND SAID THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM. I AM SORRY BUT THERE IS A PROBLEM! DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE PARKING BRAKE WILL NOT HOLD PROPERLY. THE FAILURE GRADUALLY BECAME MORE SEVERE, NOW THE PARKING BRAKE ONLY HOLDS ON SMALL INCLINES. UPON INSPECTION AT AN INSPECTION STATION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE CLIP IN THE PARKING BRAKE. THE DEALER FOUND A SERVICE BULLETIN # 02-05-26-001 FOR THE PARKING BRAKE. ALTHOUGH THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM THE CONTACT ELECTED NOT TO HAVE THE REPAIRS COMPLETED. THE CONTACT DETECTED THE ODOR OF SOMETHING BURNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, WHICH DISCOVERED THE MULTI FUNCTION TURN SIGNAL SWITCH SHORTED OUT. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NO FIRE THE CONNECTING WIRES AND TERMINALS WERE BLACK AND MELTED. THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH WAS REPLACED. *AK
MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 EXT CAB PICKUP FAILED SAFETY INSPECTION DUE TO THE PARKING BRAKE NOT HOLDING. IT HAS 66000 MILES ON IT. I RARELY USE THE BRAKE LIVING ON FLAT LAND. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ACCORDING TO THE INSPECTOR REQUIRING APPX. $180 TO REPAIR. ON 01 NOV, I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT WHEN MY BRAKES TOTALLY FAILED CAUSING ME TO CRASH INTO A PARKED CAR. I WAS ENTERING THE PARKING SPOT BELOW 5 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. I DROPPED MY TRUCK OFF AT A REPAIR CENTER ON 03 NOV AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT BOTH THE LEFT FRONT HUB BEARING WAS SHOT AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES SENSOR WAS SHOT. BOTH ITEMS WERE REPLACED.*JB
I SAT ON MY TAIL GATE AND THE TAIL GATE FELL DOWN. WHEN I LOOKED I HAD ONE BROKE CABLE AND THE OTHER SIDE THE BOLT WAS MISSING. I BOUGHT TWO CABLES FROM ADVANCE AUTO REPLACED ONE SIDE BUT I COULD NOT GET THE BOLT BACK IN THE OTHER SIDE. I WAS PLANNING TO TAKE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND FOR THE RECALL BUT THE GATE FELL OFF THE TRUCK AND I DID NOT KNOW IT HAD FELL OFF AND I DRAGGED IT DOWN A DIRT ROAD FOR ABOUT HALF MILE OR MORE. I TRIED TO GET GMC TO REPLACE THE TAIL GATE BUT THEY JUST WANTED TO REPLACE THE CABLE SAYING THAT THE CABLE DID NOT CAUSE THE TAIL GATE TO FALL OFF AND THE DAMAGE WAS NOT DUE TO THE CABLES. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE DONE THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. UPON INSPECTION, THE DEALER STATED THE FRONT LEFT HUB NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. GM RECALL #05068 ANTI- LOCK CAUSING INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES, GM IS ONLY REPAIRING THIS PROBLEM ON 1/2 TON PRODUCTS DUE TO THE FACT IT IS A SIMPLE INEXPENSIVE REPAIR. I OWN A 3/4 TON TRUCK WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM BUT DUE TO THE FACT A REPAIR CONSISTS OF REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS THEY (GM) HAVE CHOSEN NOT TO INCLUDE 3/4 TON IN THIS RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE POSITIVE TERMINALS ON THE BATTERIES THAT ARE MADE BY AC DELCO, THESE TERMINALS CORRODED FROM THE INSIDE, CAUSING THEM TO FALL OFF. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED ON OCTOBER 10, 2005. THE BATTERY HAD BEEN IN THE VEHICLE EVER SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE. THE MANUFACTURER OF THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS THE MANUFACTURER OF THE BATTERY NEITHER OF THEM WANTED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM. MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 4WD P/U WITH 28,570 MILES HAD "ABS BRAKE" FAILURE. I CAME CLOSE TO GOING THROUGH MY GARAGE DOOR BECAUSE OF THIS AND AM GLAD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AT A BUSY INTERSECTION!! HAND BRAKE FAILURE! HAND BRAKE WAS NOTICED TO NOT BE FUNCTIONING AT 30K WARRANTY SERVICE. SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED BRAKE SHOES. BRAKE ONLY FUNCTIONED FOR 3 MONTHS AND BEGAN TO FAIL AGAIN. I THEN REPLACED THE BRAKE SHOES AGAIN MYSELF SO THAT I COULD PASS INSPECTION AND HAVE AGAIN BEEN WORN OUT IN JUST A FEW MONTHS. I WAS THEN MADE AWARE OF TSB #02-05-26-002 WHICH EVENTUALLY BECAME TSB# 02-05-002A. IT SEEMS THAT GM IS AWARE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR RETAINER CLIP DESIGN AND HAVE DEVELOPED A REPLACEMENT, BUT I BELIEVE THAT THE COST SHOULD BE THEIRS AND NOT THE CONSUMERS.
