TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA DENALI. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ABS WHEEL HUB WAS PULSATING, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE ABS HUB SENSORS HAD ENGAGED AT LOW SPEEDS. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, BUT HE LOST ALL SENSE OF BRAKING CONTROL. HE DROVE HOME AND CALLED THE DEALER, WHO INFORMED HIM THAT THE ABS SENSORS WERE DIRTY AND NEEDED TO BE CLEANED OR REPLACED. NO REPAIRS HAVE YET BEEN MADE. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK) WAS RELATED TO HIS YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000. 2002 GMC SIERRA. JUST AS THE VEHICLE IS ABOUT TO STOP THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES SEEM TO RELEASE AND THE VEHICLE TRAVELS AROUND 10 TO 15 FEET WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO STOP. VERY DISCONCERNING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP IMMEDIATELY. THE ABS EVENTUALLY ENGAGED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 101,296.
I HAVE A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500HD PICKUP WITH THE VORTEC 8.1 ENGINE. I AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME CRANK POSITION SENSOR FAILURE AS EXPERIENCED IN THE 2001 MODEL YEAR RECALL (SAFETY RECALL # 06083). I AM NOT ALONE, AS MANY MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES IN THEIR 2002-2004 PICKUP TRUCKS. I BELIEVE THE NHTSA SHOULD EXTEND SAFETY RECALL # 06083 TO INCLUDE MODEL YEARS 2002 TO 2004, AS SOME MODELS MANUFACTURED IN CANADA FREQUENTLY USE PARTS FROM PREVIOUS US MODEL YEARS. SIMILAR TO NHTSA: 05V161000 MY 2002 GMC SIERRA WITH AUTOMATIC TRANNY EXPERIENCES THE VERY SAME PREMATURE PARKING BRAKE WEAR. WEAR IS UNEVEN AND JUST IN 2 LITTLE PLACES INSTEAD OF EVEN WEAR ON WHOLE SHOE. BRAKE WEARS VERY QUICKLY THEN WILL NOT HOLD PUTTING UNDUE STRESS AND CAUSING FAILURE OF PARKING PAWL IN AUTOMATIC TRANNY. GM REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING. GM WILL NOT FIX MY VEHICLE OR APPLY RECALL SINCE I DO NOT HAVE MANUAL TRANNY. IF ANYTHING, AUTOMATIC TRANNY IS WORSE SINCE IT DAMAGES TRANNY DUE TO STRESS ON PAWL SINCE PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD VEHICLE. WHEN BRAKE SHOES WERE REPLACED, THEY WORKED FOR VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. $250 TO REPLACE AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND I WOULD BE WASTING MY MONEY BECAUSE THEY WOULD WEAR OUT QUICKLY AGAIN. ODD THAT SHOES WEAR WHEN VEHICLE TYPICALLY IS NOT MOVING WHEN BRAKE IS APPLIED OR RELEASED. *TR
THE ABS SYSTEM HAS AN OPEN SHORT BETWEEN THE ABS PUMP AND THE ABS MODULE. THESE COMPONENTS ARE LOCATED UNDER THE VEHICLE MOUNTED TO THE FRAME RAIL. THIS IS SAFETY RELATED EQUIPMENT AND WAS MOUNTED IN A HIGHLY CORROSIVE SPOT, SUBJECT TO ROAD SALT AND WATER. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500HD PICKUP TRUCK THAT IS EXHIBITING ABS BRAKING PROBLEMS AT LOW SPEEDS. THE ABS SYSTEM WILL ENGAGE AND DISENGAGE AT LOW SPEEDS ON PERFECTLY DRY DRIVING SURFACES. I WAS INFORMED BY A FRIEND THAT HE THOUGHT GMC HAD A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. I RESEARCHED ON THE WEB AND FOUND A RECALL THAT DESCRIBED THIS SITUATION EXACTLY. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO OUTSTANDING RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE. I THEN CONTACTED GMC DIRECTLY (FROM A PHONE NUMBER LISTED ON ONE OF THE WEB OBTAINED RECALL NOTICES) AND THEY RAN MY VIN AND SAID THAT MY TRUCK WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. I WANT TO KNOW HOW TO GET MY TRUCK AND SIMILAR TRUCKS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL THAT APPARENTLY DID NOT INCLUDE MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AT 5 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ANTILOCK BRAKE UNIT. AS HE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE, IT FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A PARKING METER. THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTI-LOCK), ALTHOUGH HE WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
GM TECHNICAL BULLETIN 00-07-30-022C (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) FAILURE OF REACTION SUN GEAR WITH ONLY 36,XXX MILES (2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 4.8L). THIS APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM FOR AT LEAST A DECADE WITH CONTINUAL FAILURES UNTIL GM UPGRADED THE DEFECTIVE COMPONENTS IN 2003. REPAIR ESTIMATES COULD BE OVER $2,000. CASH AVAILABLE = $200. GM SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR KNOWN DEFECTIVE PARTS. *TR
PARKING BRAKE DOESN'T HOLD VEHICLE. ADJUSTER IS MAXED OUT AND GM CUSTOMER SERVICE STATES THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO SINCE IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY. TRUCK ONLY HAS 61,000 MILES. THE PARKING BRAKE HAS NEVER BEEN USED. I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER. *TR
THE PARKING BRAKE LINERS HAVE BECOME WORN TO SUCH A POINT THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WILL NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE STATIONARY. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE LINERS TWICE TO RECEIVE A STATE INSPECTION. EACH LINER REPLACEMENT HAS COST ME $40/WHEEL FOR A TOTAL OF $160. I NEVER USE MY PARKING BRAKE, YET IT CONTINUES TO WEAR. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES, THE ABS ACTIVATED AUTOMATICALLY AND THE VEHICLE JERKED BACKWARDS. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPAIRED IT ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REPAIR, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SPEED SENSOR WAS CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE SPEED SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,769 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,775.
2002 GMC SIERRA WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS BOTH THE ABS PROBLEMS THAT HAVE A RECALL ONLY ALONG EAST COAST STATES AND THE PARKING BRAKE PROBLEM THAT HAS A RECALL FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. *TR

I HAVE A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500HD WITH THE 8.1L ENGINE THAT IS EXHIBITING THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS THAT LED TO THE RECALL OF THE 2001 MODEL. (NHTSA # 07V521000). ONE MINUTE I'LL BE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AND THE NEXT MINUTE THE ENGINE WILL STOP RUNNING. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. SOMETIMES IT'LL RESTART BEFORE IT COMES TO A STOP. SOMETIMES IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL MINUTES AFTER IT'S COME TO A STOP. I'VE RESEARCHED IT ON-LINE, AND IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THIS PROBLEM IS NOT RESTRICTED TO THE 2001 MODELS. THE DATE I'VE LISTED IS WHEN I FIRST REMEMBER IT HAPPENING. IT'S VERY INTERMITTENT. IT'S GETTING WORSE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. IN OCTOBER OF 2005, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). HE IMMEDIATELY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. ONE YEAR LATER, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AT 5 MPH, HE FELT A SEVERE PULSATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DEALER STATED THAT BOTH WHEEL SPEED SENSORS FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT HIS OWN EXPENSE. THE CONTACT FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 63,293.
ANTILOCK BRAKES ON 2002 GMC SIERRA TRUCK ACTIVATE FOR NO REASON AT SPEEDS OF 5MPH OR LESS MAKING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SENSORS FOR THIS REASON. I HAD MY SENSORS "TAKEN CARE OF" AND AFTERWARDS STARTED EXPERIENCING THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THE HUBS ARE BAD AND THIS IS WHY THE ANTI LOCKS ARE COMING ON. THE SENSORS CAN NOT READ THE HUB "CORRECTLY". THE HUBS, WHICH ARE NOT A WEAR ITEM, CAN BE REPLACED FOR $1000. THIS IS ON A 2002 PICK UP TRUCK WITH 46,000 MILES ON IT AND IS GARAGE KEPT. THE HUBS ARE A NON WEAR ITEM. POOR ENGINEERING IS THE CULPRIT OF THIS PROBLEM. THE HUBS SHOULD BE REPLACED JUST LIKE THE SENSORS WERE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT ON MY GMC TRUCK I CANNOT HAVE THE ANTILOCK BRAKES DEACTIVATED. AS A RESULT, I HAVE TO SPEND THE $1000 TO MAKE MY TRUCK SAFE TO DRIVE. PROBABLY 40,000 MILES IN THE FUTURE I CAN REPLACE THE HUBS AGAIN FOR $1000. $1000 TO REPLACE A NON WEAR ITEM. ANTILOCK BRAKES ARE ON A VEHICLE TO MAKE THE VEHICLE SAFER. THE ANTILOCKS ON MY GMC MAKE THE VEHICLE UNDRIVABLE BECAUSE OF BEING UNSAFE. IT SHOULD BE POSSIBLE TO DEPEND ON YOUR BRAKES TO MAKE YOU STOP. WITH MY VEHICLE I CAN'T STOP. THIS IS NOT A WEAR ITEM THAT IS CAUSING MY PROBLEM. THIS IS POOR ENGINEERING! THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL, SAME AS THE SENSORS WERE COVERED UNDER A RECALL. GMC WILL COVER THE SENSORS BUT NOT WHAT THE SENSORS ARE LOOKING AT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN SEPTEMBER OF 2006 FOR THE ABS. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR A MONTH AND PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIR. SINCE THE REPAIR, THE VEHICLE DOES NOT ROLL BACK WHILE PARKED ON AN INCLINE WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED; HOWEVER, IT ROLLS BACK ON LEVEL GROUND. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE ROTORS AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM HIMSELF IN NOVEMBER OF 2007 BECAUSE THE ROTORS WERE CORRODING, WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKES TO PULSATE. THE DEALER WOULD NOT STATE WHETHER THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V161000 (PARKING BRAKE). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,503. NOTICED THAT PARKING BRAKE DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE. (LOOKED ON LINE AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION BUT NOT FOR AUTOMATIC. ALSO NOTICED A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE EVEN WITH AN AUTOMATIC SINCE PEOPLE PULL TRAILERS AND PARK ON INCLINES SETTING THE PARKING BRAKE. *TR

FIRESTONE LT245/75-R16 STEELTEX RADIAL A/T TREAD SEPARATED AT 55 MPH. TWO ESTIMATES OF DAMAGE TO VEHICLE, APPROXIMATELY $3,700. SENT TIRE TO FIRESTONE WHO DENIED LIABILITY. ATTRIBUTED TREAD SEPARATION TO "OVER DEFLEXION". *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC 3500. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT SWERVED TO AVOID A DEER AND STRUCK A CONCRETE WALL. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS IN THE VEHICLE DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS MINOR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 78,000.
TRUCK BEGAN TO GRIND AND POP AS I WENT AROUND CORNERS. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND BOTH OF THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WENT BAD WITHIN FIRST 70,000 MILES. GM WOULD NOT BACK THE VEHICLE. PARTS ALONE COST OVER $400 TO FIX THE VEHICLE. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE VEHICLE HAS FIRESTONE RADIAL, SIZE LT/245/75/R16 TIRES. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HE NOTICED THAT THE TREAD COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM THE TIRE. PRIOR TO DRIVING THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS NORMAL. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT DEFECTIVE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APROX. 40,000. COMPLETE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILURE. THE E-BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD ON EVEN A SLIGHT INCLINE. FURTHER RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT BY GMC TRUCK OWNERS ON THE INTERNET. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS, BUT NOT VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE... *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT 5 MPH ON A DRY LIMESTONE, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE SOUNDED AS IF THE ABS PUMP WAS ACTIVATED. WHEN HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A WORK TRAILER. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED FRONT END DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER SENT AN ENGINEER TO TAKE PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE AND TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC REPORT. THE MANUFACTURER CALLED THE CONTACT AND STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY FAILURES AS WELL. THE CONTACT WAS ISSUED CASE NUMBER 71-534915559. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 87,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT AN REPRESENTATIVE CAME TO INVESTIGATE AND TOOK PICTURES THAT WERE IN TURN DOWNLOADED TO HIS LAPTOP. TWO WEEKS LATER THE CONSUMER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THE CRASH WAS AT SUCH A LOW SPEED THE COMPUTER DID NOT RECORD ANYTHING AND GM COULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS. THE CONSUMER STATED TRADED VEHICLE IN DUE TO THE FACT COULD NOT GET ASSISTANCE FROM MANUFACTURER. THE CONSUMER PROVIDED PICTURES AND INFORMATION ON RECALLS PERTAINING TO THE DEFECT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES AT 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK) AT 33,725 MILES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 39,600 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALER DUE TO THE FACT THE ROTORS WERE DAMAGED WHILE PERFORMING THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED REPLACED THE REAR ROTORS AND PADS AT 35,000 MILES DUE TO CORROSION AND THE CONSUMER HAD TO PULL THE FUSE TO THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM TO PROPERLY DRIVE VEHICLE HOME. EXPERIENCE UNWANTED ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) ACTIVATION. THIS CAN CAUSE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES DURING LOW-SPEED BRAKE APPLICATIONS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. *TR
ABS BRAKE SENSOR FAILURE. AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS WORK EVEN WHEN WHEELS ARE NOT LOCKED UP. THE FIRST TIME I EXPERIENCED THIS WAS PULLING A 7000LB TRAILER. I HAD TO DIVERT THE TRUCK AND TRAILER ONTO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID PLOWING INTO TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR TO MAKE, REPLACING THE FRONT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLIES. CURRENTLY WE HAVE HAD TO DISCONNECT ONE OF THE ABS SENSORS TO KEEP THE ABS FROM ACTIVATING. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 2-5 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL STIFFENED WHEN IT WAS TURNED TO THE LEFT. WHEN TURNED TO THE RIGHT, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME RESISTANT. THE FAILURE DID NOT OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN STRAIGHT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE STEERING VALVE AND STEERING BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,499.
WHILE TRAVELING WITH THE TAILGATE DOWN I RAN OVER A SPEED BUMP AND THE TAILGATE CAME LOOSE AND WAS HANGING BY THE SAFETY CABLES. THE RIGHT HINGE POINT WAS BENT AND COULD NOT BE STRAIGHTENED. WILL REPLACE BOTH HINGE POINTS. *TR

VE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED, AND A NEW DIAGNOSTIC CODE ENTERED IN THE VEHICLE. FOUND 3 OTHER ODI'S WITH EXACT SAME PROBLEM, 10159068,10174007, AND 10164369.*AK
THIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT HITTING A GAURDRAIL AND CONCRETE DIVIDER. THE 2002 GMC SIERRA1 1500 EXT. CAB TRUCK HAS BEEN TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END, HOOD, SIDE PANEL, BED, AND BUMPER, DRIVER SIDE TIRE, ETC. THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. IT ALSO APPEARED THE SEAT BELT JAMMED UPON IMPACT AS OPPOSED TO LOCKING AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO. EVEN THOUGH THE INJURIES WERE NOT SEVERE, SHE HIT HER HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL, AND HAD SUSTAINED PROBLEMS FROM THE EXCESSIVE IMPACT AMONG OTHER THINGS. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP TO INVESTIGATE, BUT WAS INFORMED THAT BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ON THE LIST OF STATES AFFECTED, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THEY COULD, HOWEVER, CHARGE ME $120 FOR A DIAGNOSIS OF THE VEHICLE. I DECLINED. THERE HAS BEEN MORE THAN ONE OCCASION IN WHICH OTHER VEHICLES HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT FROM THE REAR AS A RESULT OF VEHICLE NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP. *JB

THE VEHICLE WENT THROUGH THE GARAGE WALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, AND THEY FOUND FOUR ABS ERROR CODES. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS SENSORS ON THE FRONT WHEELS. FAILURE OF PARKING BRAKE ON 2002 GMC SIERRA PICKUP. DURING STATE INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND TO BE UNABLE TO HOLD. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE ADJUSTMENTS SCREWS ON BOTH REAR EMERGENCY BRAKES WERE FULLY DISENGAGED, SO THIS MEANT THAT THEY HAD BACKED OFF. THEY WERE AGAINST THE STOPS. THEY WERE ADJUSTED BACK UP, BUT THIS WILL MOST LIKELY HAPPEN AGAIN. I AM A MECHANIC AND KNOW THIS IS A DEFECT THAT COULD CAUSE DEATHS IF THIS IS NOT CORRECTED. THE CAR INSPECTION CENTER WHERE THE TRUCK WAS INSPECTED SAID THERE IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT THE DEALERS KNOW IS BAD, BUT THEY DO NOTHING TO CORRECT THE DEFECT. HE SAID THEY SEE A LARGE NUMBER OF GMC TRUCK THAT THE PARKING BRAKES IS DEFECTIVE. (MANY OF THE PEOPLE ALSO SAY THEY NEVER USE THE PARKING BRAKE. *JB
PARKING BRAKE FAILURE ON 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 2WD 4DR EXT CAB W/ AUTOMATIC TRANS. DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEAR OF FRICTION LININGS DUE TO DEFECT IN RELEASE MECHANISM. HAVE 50K MILES ON VEHICLE & EMERGENCY BRAKE SHOES HAVE WORN INTO ROTORS. THE LACK OF A WORKING PARKING BRAKE HAS CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO LOCK IN PARK WHEN ON AN INCLINE, ESPECIALLY WHEN TOWING. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO DISCOVERED THAT THE ROTORS WERE CORRODED, THE FRONT WHEEL HUBS WERE FILLED WITH WATER, THE ABS SENSORS WERE CORRODED, AND THE ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 34,000.
FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS DEGRADED TO THE POINT THAT ENTIRE WHEEL WAS LOOSE FROM HUB. WHEN ON A JACK COULD MOVE THE WHEEL SEVERAL INCHES IN OR OUT OF WHEEL HOUSING WITH MINIMAL HAND PRESSURE. REPAIR AGENCY INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A DISTINCT POSSIBILITY THAT, IF UNDETECTED, THIS CONDITION COULD HAVE CREATED A SITUATION LEADING TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT (AFFECT TO STEERING/CONTROL). THE SECOND FRONT WHEEL BEARING EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECT APPROXIMATELY 8 MONTHS LATER, EVEN AFTER BEING INSPECTED AT THE TIME OF THE OTHER FAILURE. *TR

THERE IS ABNORMAL BRAKE ROTOR DETERIATION AND RUSTING DUE TO POOR MANUFACTURING OR STEEL FORMULAS WHICH RUST ACCERLERATES AND WEARS DOWN THE PADS UNEVENLY. I HAVE WORKED ON BRAKES ON MANY AUTOS AND A FEW TRUCKS I'VE OWNED OVER THE LAST FEW DECADES AND NEVER HAVE SEEN SUCH RUSTING AND SURFACE FLAKING OF THE DISK ROTOR ON MY VIHICLE. I HAD MY DEALER LOOK AT THE ROTORS AND THEY AGREED IT MAY BE A BIT EXCESSIVE. I HAVE TO REPLACE ALL FOUR ROTORS DUE TO POOR QUALITY AND UNREPAIRABLE ROTORS. THE ROTORS LOOK LIKE THEY CAME OFF A 20 YEAR OLD TRUCK....THIS IS A SAFETY AND QUALITY PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. THANK YOU

SHE WAS TRAVELING AT 55 MPH AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE ON THE SHOULDER. THE CONTACT HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKES ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR OF VEHICLE. THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION, HOWEVER IT WAS EVENTUALLY EXTRACTED. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 56,000 MILES. GMC CALLED HER THIS MORNING AND TOLD HER THERE WERE 7 RECALLS PREVIOUSLY ON THIS VEHICLE, ALL OF WHICH HAD EXPIRED.
UPON BRAKING UP TO A STOP SIGN FOR INSTANCE. THE VEHICLES ABS WILL KICK IN AT THE LAST MINUTE RELEASING THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO DIVE TO THE RIGHT. THIS HAPPENS IN WET OR DRY CONDITION BUT IS PARTICULARLY BAD IN ICY CONDITIONS. *NM

THIS HAPPENED AT ANY TIME OF THE DAY, AND IN ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS HAPPENED WHEN APPLYING BRAKES AT ANY SPEED. THE BRAKES PUSHED BACK AND THERE WAS A THUMPING NOISE COMING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE CONTACT LOOKED UP INFORMATION FROM THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND FOUND THAT A RECALL 05V379000 HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SAID THAT HE TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS VEHICLE DID NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK THE INNER TIE ROD HAD EXCESSIVE PLAY, THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL SEAL WAS LEAKING FROM THE VENT CAP, THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT BULB WAS INOPERATIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AND SHAFT PITMAN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTERWARDS, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE LUBRICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED, AND DETERMINED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT LUBRICATION WAS A PART OF GENERAL MAINTENANCE.
THERE WAS NO EVENT THAT WAS NOTED THAT WOULD CAUSE THE SEPARATION OF THE TIRE TREAD FROM THE SIDEWALL. A MAJOR LEAK WAS NOTED. THE SPLIT WAS LOCATED AT THE POINT OF SIDEWALL TO TREAD JOINT. THE TIRE HAS >9/32 OF TREAD LEFT ON THE TIRE. I AM AT A LOSS TO REPLACE THE TIRE. NO TRAUMA WAS INFLICTED ON THE TIRE. *NM
